I don't think cheesy is the word you're looking for. It uses many fantasy and RPG tropes and even some clichés, but the story of Dragon Age is far from cheesy.

<p>Next Gen?</p><p> </p><p>

Be warned, this is a bit of a rant about some things I want to get off my chest.</p><p> </p><p>

I have to say that Next Gen consoles are really not living up to the hype. A large portion of games are either "remakes" with polished graphics (honestly, graphics are not the be all end all). Xbox One has very few decent games that you couldn't pick up cheaper on last gen. I paid £340 for my Xbox One, with it I got Fifa 15, Evil Within & Forza Horizon 2. None of which I was really interested in, but it was the cheapest option at the time.</p><p> </p><p>

I have now played Fifa 15 & Pro Evo 15 and they are stripped down versions of the previous gens games in terms of editing ability. Pro Evo on 360 allows you to edit kits and club badges etc, yet because of the Xbox Ones lack of anywhere to store pictures, you can't do any of that on the next gen console.... sorry... you can edit "generic" kit for another "generic" kit but change the team names and you have a club badge that doesn't match your team name. Answer me this, how can the publishers of a game charge more on next gen consoles for a stripped down version of a game you can get cheaper on last gen with more options and think it's acceptable? This baffles me.</p><p> </p><p>

I played The Evil Within for all of about 30 minutes before shelving it. Don't like it, don't want to waste my time with it.</p><p> </p><p>

GTA V Online is still laggy and takes forever to get into a game. Oh but you do get in car view for your £49.99 re-purchase. As well as some other little "hidden" gifts. Problem is, the story is the same so who really cares.</p><p> </p><p>

Dragon Age: Inquisition. I liked the game when I began playing it, but now it's boring as hell and I doubt I'll even finish it. Trying to find your way around is tedious, as is the combat. Melee does nothing because after 4 hits (even at a high level) you're dead.</p><p> </p><p>

Forza Horizon 2? God awful game with cars that drive like they're on ice! That is literally all I'm saying on that - well except for the "additional car packs" rip off?</p><p> </p><p>

Sunset Overdrive, Now I grant you it is a bit of fun, until you have to stop the enemies getting your orange liquid out of the tube thing at your safe area. Then the game loses its appeal. Again, not worth a Next Gen purchase as this so easily could have been a last gen title due to the content and game play.</p><p> </p><p>

So... onto Dying Light which I originally hated with a passion (I believe I even ranted about it). After about a week of getting used to the fiddly control system, I must say that I began to enjoy the game, especially co-op with friends. It became a saving grace - however, yet again the content and game play that Dying Light currently has could easily have been put onto the older gen consoles with little to no difference in graphics and game mechanics.</p><p> </p><p>

Other games that are hardly even Next Gen I've played include Farcry 4 (seems smaller than previous Far Cry games), Neverwinter (a free game that is better than most of the next gen titles I've played - yet it's hardly "groundbreaking"), Halo: Master Chief Collection (Last Gen games with new graphics) however I do like playing co-op on these, State of Decay (yes really - and there is no difference to last gen). Then we get all the Telltale Games that again are hardly a test for the Xbox One. Not to mention the "Games with Gold" freebies that could all have been released on the original Xbox let alone the 360 or Xbox One for what they offer in terms of game play. In total I've played around 20 different titles maybe? None have justified my initial monetary outlay for the console.</p><p> </p><p>

The Xbox One has been out long enough that I shouldn't still be going back to my 360 to play games. [sarcasm] Paying £50 for a repeat of a game that has had it's graphics bumped and a fivers worth of new content makes me glad I spent all that money on the Xbox One [/sarcasm]. If I want to look at something "realistic" and "pretty" I'll go outside and look at a tree.</p><p> </p><p>

Of course all of the above isn't to be taken as fact, just my opinions and feelings on a subject I (normally) enjoy which no amount of "U IZ IDIOT FLEISCH" replies will change.</p>

<p>I work around games all day for a living. I must say you couldnt be more wrong on the consoles. You sound just too damn picky to please. Dragon Age was a game I get next to no negative reviews about it from my customers. The sports games are always gonna be the same... That will never change. GTA V I have yet to play online but the story mode is great to replay and game looks beautiful.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Forza Horizon 2 is bad? Umm no not even close. FH2 was a great change from Forza 5. Anyone who enjoys a racing game knows Forza games are very well done.</p><p> </p><p>

Dying Light would have needed 2-3 disks. Not to mention you dont know the inner layers of it. Great game though but shouldnt be on last gen. To say next gen isnt lving up to the hype is beyond a false statement. These consoles have been out 2 years now. They need some time. How long until the PS3 and 360 got their bugs fixed? Not nearly as fast. These consoles are monsters and just need time for elite games to come out. But you seem real shallow on your games. Give Microsoft and Sony time to allow you to add pictures, music, ect to consoles. All in due time it will happen.</p>

Have to agree with Fleisch actually I mean ported over games & loadsa free indie platformers is not why i bought a ps4.I'm sure it will improve but at tho mo nowt really impresses me the way games like Mass Effect did on last gen.Though thats obviously just my opinion

Anyways I agree with Fleisch on this. There's no game I've seen for PS4 or xbox that seems catchy or must play.

 

Moving on I've recently started playing D&D Online again. Been pretty fun doing some rp with a human paladin. Been playing solo mostly doing a few one-time team ups. Decided my end goal is to make a small guild consisting of nothing but Paladins and Clerics just for fun.

I got big hopes for the witcher 3 coz Dragon Age was basically an overrated hack & slash with a boring story!And man that game was boring it was a major story with horrible gameplay & skyrim had already bored us that way

Been a long time since I've regretted buying a Batman game, but Blackgate is just awful. I was hoping for something similar to Mark of the Ninja with a Batman skin, not Arkham's gameplay on a 2D plane. The combat is the worst part, the wonderful flow of the fighting is stopped cold as mooks just line up behind each other, waiting for their turn at Batman. Which makes it awkward when you have to hit some enemies in the back to hurt them and instead wind up having to counter the guy behind him instead. I didn't even pay the full price (Humble Bundle deal) and I still feel ripped off.

My biggest issue with console gaming is 90% of the big games I'd actually want to play on my PS4 I can play in better graphical detail on my PC, such as Shadows of Mordor, Dragon Age Inquisition, GTA V ( which I actually did get for the PS4) Witcher 3 and Diablo 3. All of these games are available on PC which is my preferred platform. As I don't do shooter games like COD or Halo, there are very few games I play on the console. I bought Destiny but ended up barely touching it, and I picked up MLB 15 this week as the first gane that's console exclusive that I actually put some time on.

Transactions exist but unless you're planning on min-maxing there's no need to buy anything from what I've seen.</p>
