As a colleague in the education sector, let me help you with that: <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

[*]Witcher 3 - Had it and the expansions since release but never finished it. Just push through with it. If you want the short version, don't do the monster quests, even though they are worth the time.

* Pillars of Eternity: I also dropped the game for a long time after Act 1, but it's definitaly worth picking up again. Just enjoy the - kinda unique - story and put it on "easy" so you don't lose time.

* Skyrim: Really? REALLY? After all this time? I must say I'm guilty of not finishing the DLC even now. It was one of the only games I bought on release and truly enjoyed.

So, I’ve been working on a top 5 games of 2017 for a podcast I host, (My cohost and I go from 2 top 5’s to 1 top 3), so I thought I’d drop it here along with a few other notes, and see what other people had for their Top 5/10.

Top 5:

5. Battle Chef Brigade

Lots of fun. Art style is like... anime if drawn by the guy who did the Alice in Wonderland illustrations. And I love Iron Chef, Monster Hunter & Bejeweled, so this is right up my alley.

4. Morphblade

Tom Francis made 2 games this year (Heat Signature being the other). This is the better of the two. It’s a roguelike where the board itself changes as you play, so it rewards forethought quite a bit.

3. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Best 3D Zelda game, easily. But really hard for me to actually get into. I suspect most people here have already heard about it.

2. Hollow Knight

2D Dark Souls / Metroidvania with platforming and a Don Bluth like art style? Yes, please.

1. Neir: Automata

I adore everything about this game. It looks gorgeous (both technically and aesthetically), the gameplay is fun, it has Bullet Hell elements, the music is superb, the story is a nice mix of Blade Runner, Ender’s Game and We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, and it has Bullet Hell elements.

Also, Lego Worlds seems to be what everyone wanted from No Man’s Sky. Plus it makes me feel like a kid again.

TEW 16 was one of my most played games this year. NBA 2k16 as well.

He put up a 26 part tutorial on game making at the same time as making Heat Signature and Morphblade (hell, Morphblade was just a side project when working on Heat Sig) He's up there with Mike Bithell as a cool british indie developer. EDIT - He also released Floating Point for free on Steam which is a rope swinging zen like game

Good to go on steam and see some classics for £2 and £3. Even better because I didn't play Jade Empire back in the day. New experience and loving it. My monk character is possibly the strongest character I've controlled in a video game. Certainly feels that way.

And that chapter 2 in Heaven. :)

Bought Assassin's Creed: Origins (PC). Having played most of the previous games the gameplay gets repetitive but they freshened up the combat and borrowed some RPG elements from the Far Cry series. What's impressive is the game engine. I'm running it almost maxed out at 1440p with ReShade with only a few dips below 60fps and it looks stunning.

Started playing FUT for the first time a few months ago with FIFA 18. I've got 3 good squads but I'm a pretty average player and Squad Battles can be a right bitch at times. I'm not used to using an Xbox One controller so much (more of a keyboard and mouse user) so I managed to strain my left hand. So no FIFA or Origins for the rest of the week <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Also slowly getting into Endless Space 2 and Planet Coaster.

I am in love with this game. Started off wondering what all the fuss was about, then five hours later I understood. Really sucked me in, the characters are great. It is going to be a lot of fun.

Incredible. Starting to think this will end up in the greatest games I've ever played discussion. I just made it past the first palace. Had my first nostalgia steak and it did really bring some sweet memories back to me. Tasted great too. haha

Starting to bond with Sojiro and learning so much about coffee. Interesting. If you get EA Access for a month you can play EA UFC 3 a week early (at least for 10 hours). Way to capitalize on the millenials, EA. Damn you! <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Unfortunately they always make it a pain to complete an order online and after 5 tries I just gave up on connecting a paypal account.
I've kind of gone a different direction gaming wise since Christmas. Got two games for my PS4 under the tree. The Uncharted collection with remasters of the first three games and a little something known as Cat Quest.

Yes. You read that right. Cat Quest. For those who haven't heard of the game, it's sort of a light RPG than focuses more on puns and humor than trying to be overly fancy or irrationally hard. Although there is a fair bit of challenge toward the end. Game might look childish to some and I can see a young child playing the early stages easily enough.

But at the same time, I wouldn't recommend the end game to very young children at all. There are language and content concerns that I can envision the parents of kindergartners and children in lower grades having with the game. The game refers to stuff being "crappy" often enough that I could see young kids mimicking the game's usage in ways that parents would rather they not. And some story material could be too intense for younger minds. Like the Christmas quest that features twin Santas at war with each other over whether giving presents is appropriate behavior. To the point one goes rogue and ends up attacking you.

For the more mature player, it could be a good break from the battle scarring of the Haloes and Calls Of Duty of the world. It was rather a quick complete as I finished the main storyline last night. Only like a couple weeks after starting it.And I will say the ending was a bit of a curveball. Although appropriately evil in the silly way the game has. Don't know how many here will appreciate Cat Quest's charms but I sure found it a worthy time killer.

Worthy enough I've yet to delve all that deeply into Uncharted. And I worry how far I'll ultimately will get with that game. It made a mixed first impression on me and while I do want to give it a fair shot, I haven't been able to find any characters I liked enough to want to go back. I also have Transformers: Devastation I've been sitting on. So I figure I may dive into that before giving Nathan Drake and the Uncharted world its second look.

They were simplistic, perhaps, but isn't that what people want? If it works, don't change it? I hope they reverted to the original controls, as I've seen lots of negative feedback on their facebook (quite over-the-top as usual "now the game sucks" etc).
