God Bless Texas - 1977 C-Verse

OOC: My teaching schedule has been a bit hectic lately - just finished grading a massive stack of papers. If I read one more word about immigration, I'm going to scream!

From the Notebook of Referee Billy

Well folks, it's time for another edition of Texas Wrestling. This one is sure to be explosive - it's our last show before Back in the Saddle! Here are the announced matches:

Team Texas (Trailer Park Kid/Archie 'The Governor' Judge/Dave 'Double-Wide' Wylde) w/Debbie Dallas v. Disciples of Evilness (Professor Nero/Demons of Rage)

These have to be considered the top challengers to the new 6-Man champions, Pain and the New Zealand Game Hunters. Can Team Texas prevail against the powerful (and sinister) Disciples?

The Executioners v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)

Double Disaster are the number one contenders to the TWL Tag Team titles. Will they pass their final test before getting a shot at the Crimson Serpent Cult or will the Executioners pull off the upset?

'Old School' Edmond Jackson v. Sheik Mustafa

This is a classic 'old school American face' versus 'evil foreigner' match. Will the American hero prevail or will the Arabian nightmare ruin the evening?

The Masked Patriot v. Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman

These men are each one-half of a powerful team set to square off at Back in the Saddle. Whoever wins here has to have a great deal of momentum heading into the big event!

Quick Picks:

Team Texas (Trailer Park Kid/Archie 'The Governor' Judge/Dave 'Double-Wide' Wylde) w/Debbie Dallas v. Disciples of Evilness (Professor Nero/Demons of Rage)

The Executioners v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)

'Old School' Edmond Jackson v. Sheik Mustafa

The Masked Patriot v. Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman

Team Texas (Trailer Park Kid/Archie 'The Governor' Judge/Dave 'Double-Wide' Wylde) w/Debbie Dallas v. Disciples of Evilness (Professor Nero/Demons of Rage)

Team Texas give a bump to Nero's men and set up face vs. heel title feud.

The Executioners v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)

Unless someone else decides to get under those Executioner masks and trick the duo... but that would spoil the title match.

'Old School' Edmond Jackson v. Sheik Mustafa

Edmond's more of a wrestler, the Sheik is a glorified manager.

The Masked Patriot v. Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman

Got to remind folks what the Patriot can do.

Heels get the boost to go into a feud for the 6 man belts.

The Executioners v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)

No surprise here.

'Old School' Edmond Jackson v. Sheik Mustafa

I call shenanigans here. Popinowski gets involved.

The Masked Patriot v. Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman

To send the crowd home happy after Mustafa winning.

<em>Billy’s Take</em>: Team Texas came out first to good heat, Archie waving to fans, Wylde and the Kid taking long draws on cigarettes. For her part, Debbie Dallas jiggled all the way down the ramp, eliciting catcalls from many of the young men (and at least one manly-looking woman) seated near the ring. When the Disciples of Evilness emerged, the crowd grew hateful, mercilessly booing the Professor and his mohawked minions. The match itself was a contrast in styles. The Demons of Rage are huge and powerful, Nero is dangerously intelligent, and Team Texas are straight-forward brawlers. The Disciples controlled most of the match, though Trailer Park Kid stood out when he was in the ring. In the end, the Demons of Rage were simply too powerful and Nero too cagey as he distracted Wylde long enough to allow the Demons to hit a Double Demon Drop on Double-Wide, pinning him to pick up the win. </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#800080;">“Right you are Stampy. Now I know you aren’t gonna like what we’ve got coming up next. </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>Our ring crew (ok, so it was me and a couple of slack-jawed locals) brought out a weight bench and nearly seven hundred pounds in weight plates. We loaded up the weight bar as <strong>Comrade Popinowski </strong>, <strong>Sheik Mustafa</strong>, and <strong>Panzer</strong> came down to the ring. Mustafa took the microphone. <span style="color:#FF0000;">“Pay close attention, stupid Americans, as the strongest man in the entire world makes history by bench pressing 318 kilos into the air.” </span><strong>Stampy</strong> interjected from the ringside table, <span style="color:#008000;">“That’s over seven hundred pounds for those of us in AMERICA.”</span>Mustafa and Panzer positioned themselves alongside the weight bar, ostensibly to act as spotters. Popinowski lowered himself onto the bench, letting out a booming roar to signify that he was ready. He pushed the weight off the bar and held it in the air, arms wavering slightly. He let the weight slowly drop to his chest before wrenching his whole body into action to thrust the weight back upwards. He only managed to move it a few inches. Panzer and Mustafa bellowed encouragement while the crowd booed – hoping that he would fail. Popinowski doubled his effort, pushing the bar slightly higher. But then the bar began to descend once more and it was obvious that he would not successfully lift the weight. Mustafa said something in a foreign language to Panzer and the duo seemed to strain a little, helping Popinowski push the weight. With their aid, Popinowski lifted the weights up and slammed the bar down on the holder. He leapt to his feet and celebrated while the crowd booed. <strong>Lawrence</strong> entered the ring and thrust a microphone at Mustafa. <span style="color:#800080;">“Why did you help him Sheik? Didn’t you think he could do it on his own?” </span>This enraged Popinowski who threw Grove to the ground. Mustafa answered in the microphone. <span style="color:#FF0000;">“Do you think Comrade needs to cheat to win? We are not like you puny Americans, making excuses. We are communist. We succeed!” </span>The foreign trio stomped off, Panzer and Popinowski raising their arms in mock salute as the crowd booed. <strong>C-</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#008000;">“What a travesty! There was no way Popinowski lifted that weight on his own. No chance! The Sheik cheated! He’ll get what’s comin’ to him soon enough, though, as he’s slated to take on Edmond Jackson later tonight. But first, the number one contenders for the TWL Tag Team titles, Double Disaster, face off against the always-dangerous Executioners. Let’s head down to the ring.”</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>After the match,<strong> ‘New School’ Jason Jackson </strong>took the microphone. “<span style="color:#FF0000;">Well, well, well. It’s been too long since you’ve like had the pleasure of listening to me – the Sacramento Sensation, the Prince of Pasadena, the Hollywood Heartthrob – Jason Jackson. Now you might notice something missing tonight. That’s right, like the Six-Man Titles which should still be strapped around this flawless body. Don’t you like worry. We’ll get them back soon enough. But I didn’t come out to talk about titles. I came to like talk about…my dad. You see, just like the Tyrannosaurus Rex, the Pterodactyl, and hip midwesterners, Edmond Jackson is extinct. He’s a fossil. And at Back in the Saddle, I’m going to take him out. Like once and for all.” </span>As if in agreement, <strong>Double Disaster </strong>stood menacingly, cracking knuckles and growling. <strong>C-</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>‘Old School’ Edmond Jackson v. Sheik Mustafa</strong></p><p>

<em>Billy’s Take</em>: Edmond Jackson seemed invigorated by his son’s outburst. He beat Mustafa from pillar to post, nearly ending this one quickly with a huge lariat soon after the opening bell. But Mustafa kicked out at 2. As if on cue, <strong>Panzer</strong> and <strong>Comrade Popinowski </strong>came down to ringside, apparently to serve as a distraction. This brought out <strong>Captain USA </strong>and <strong>Giant Grimsley</strong> to even the odds and soon there was as much action outside the ring as in. When Edmond Jackson locked Mustafa in the Eagle Claw, Panzer and Popinowski slid in the ring and attacked ‘Old School,’ drawing an immediate disqualification. Captain USA and Grimsley entered the ring as well and a pier-six brawl ensued, with security coming out to break up the melee as Grimsley and Popinowski stared one another down. </p><p>

<span style="color:#008000;">“What a barnburner we had there. Wee haw. Things sure ain’t settled ‘tween Giant Grimsley and that big ugly commie! Looks like it may get settled at Back in the Saddle, though, as they’re scheduled to compete in a bodyslam challenge! </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#800080;">“That’s right Stampy. I’m here with Cheatin’ Mike Barstow, who was injured two weeks ago at the hands of Luis Montero.” </span><strong>Barstow</strong> stood in street clothes, but with his arm in a cast below the elbow. <span style="color:#800080;">“Cheatin’ Mike, what can you tell us about your scheduled rematch at Back in the Saddle?”</span> <span style="color:#FF0000;">“That’s Mr. Barstow to you Larry. See it’s like this. That dirty cheatin’ Luis Montero knew he couldn’t beat me fair and square. He had to break my wrist!” </span>Barstow brandished the cast in the air. <span style="color:#FF0000;">“Now doctors say I shouldn’t wrestle, but I’m a man of my word.” </span>Grove guffawed, drawing a glare from Barstow before Cheatin’ Mike continued. “<span style="color:#FF0000;">And I said I’d fight him, so I will. </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>The Masked Patriot w/Chief Two Eagles v. Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman w/Mean Mark Green</strong></p><p>

<em>Billy’s Take</em>: Bowman came out first, flipping off fans at ringside and yelling obscenities only partially masked by crowd noise, accompanied by his partner Mean Mark Green. When the Masked Patriot and Chief Two Eagles came out, a spontaneous ‘U…S…A’ chant broke out, as the red, white, and blue-bedecked figure and his Indian teammate slapped hands with fans and urged on the crowd. Inside the ring, the Patriot used his classic moves to gain control. He hit a bodyslam, a leg drop, and a clothesline, but each only netted a two count. Then F-Bomb took over, pushing Patriot into a corner and then punching him repeatedly in the throat. He set up Patriot for a Salute ‘n Boot, but Patriot ducked under and launched himself off the ropes with a huge shoulderblock that sent Bowman to the floor. F-Bomb and Mean Mark conferred about something before Floyd reentered. Shortly thereafter, Green pulled down the top rope when Patriot went for a second devastating shoulderblock. As I turned to Bowman to keep him away, Green hit an Outlaw Driver on the Patriot before pushing his limp body back under the bottom rope. Bowman hit an unnecessary Salute ‘n Boot on the Patriot before pinning him for the three count.</p><p>

Almost immediately after the bell rang, Chief Two Eagles came in and cleared house, sending the Texas Outlaws running. He tended to the Masked Patriot as the show came to a close.</p><p>

Trailer Park Kid w/Debbie Dallas v. Johnny Lawless

I'm thinking Lawless.

TWL Six-Man Tag Team Match: Pain/New Zealand Game Hunters (Croup/Vandemar) © v. Disciples of Evilness (Demon Anger/Demon Spite/Professor Nero)

Champs retain, but this is just the beginning.

Bodyslam Contest: Giant Grimsley v. Comrade Popinowski -Draw

Sacramento Streetfight: 'Old School' Edmond Jackson v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

New School is in session.

TWL Tag Team Title Match: Crimson Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper) v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)

I dont think this will settle anything either.

Grudge Match: Luis Montero w/Shannon v. Cheatin' Mike Barstow

Team America (Chief Two Eagles/The Masked Patriot) v. The Texas Outlaws (Mean Mark Green/Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman)

Team Experience is the edge. And Green gets a title shot too.

OOC: One of these matches will be a draw. Which? And why? Bodyslam Challenge, Shiek will cause trouble at ringside, maybe even preventing a Grimsley slam of Popinowski.

<p>Trailer Park Kid w/Debbie Dallas v.<strong> Johnny Lawless</strong></p><p>

<em>- I don't think TPK is near the level of Lawless Leader.</em></p><p> </p><p>

TWL Six-Man Tag Team Match:<strong> Pain/New Zealand Game Hunters (Croup/Vandemar)</strong> © v. Disciples of Evilness (Demon Anger/Demon Spite/Professor Nero)</p><p>

<em>The Pain Hunters establish themselves as a force, plus Nero is probably more fun - to me - when he's chasing and tormenting people then when he has a title.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Bodyslam Contest: <strong>Giant Grimsley</strong> v. Comrade Popinowski</p><p>

<em>- I'll be buying beer but after a gruelling 3 minutes of gigantic man-on-man action and both men near exhaustion, a herculean effort by Grimsley to see a bodyslam. USA USA USA.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Sacramento Streetfight: 'Old School' Edmond Jackson v. 'New School' Jason Jackson</p><p>

- Draw. I'll explain below.</p><p> </p><p>

TWL Tag Team Title Match: Crimson Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper) v. <strong>Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)</strong></p><p>

<em>- The Samoan Surf Squad pick up the win and the titles for not leaving Texas (this month.)</em></p><p> </p><p>

Grudge Match: <strong>Luis Montero</strong> w/Shannon v. Cheatin' Mike Barstow</p><p>

<em>- I think Cheatin' Mike'y is headed somewhere else, so goes out on his back and further cements that the best wrestlers in Texas are... Mexican or Native American.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Team America (Chief Two Eagles/The Masked Patriot) v. <strong>The Texas Outlaws (Mean Mark Green/Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman)</strong></p><p>

<em>- Chief and Green have some heavy lifting after that last main event. Chief can drop a match here to keep Green in the hunt and the Outlaws relevant.</em></p><p> </p><p>

OOC: One of these matches will be a draw. Which? And why?</p><p>

<em>- The Jackson Family San Francisco Feud will be the draw when Mrs. Jackson arrives on the scene and drags both Jacksons out of Texas by their ears. Bad family feuding! The real reason, the leader of the New School is going to Supreme School and Old School might be going to Retirement School. (Plus matches that are designed not to end in a draw are the most likely ones to end in a draw.)</em></p>

TWL Back in the Saddle

Irvine Hall (Midsouth)

January (Week Four) 1979

Attendance: 4,931

Trailer Park Kid w/Debbie Dallas v. Johnny Lawless

Billy’s Take: Trailer Park Kid came out first, leisurely smoking a cigarette and holding Debbie Dallas’ hand, leading the flighty ex-cheerleader down to the squared circle. Johnny Lawless emerged next, adjusting his black mask and sneering at the crowd he once held in the palm of his hand. Inside the ring, the two went back and forth though, as always, Debbie Dallas seemed to interest the crowd even more than the in-ring wrestling. She jumped each time Trailer Park Kid connected with a move and the crowd roared. Unfortunately the fans were less happy with the outcome of the match. Despite the Trailer Park Kid controlling much of the match, it was Lawless who came out on top, avoiding the Kid’s Double-Wide Dive and connecting with the Power Lariat for the win.

Mean Mark Green and Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman joined Johnny Lawless in the ring, Green taking the microphone on his way in. “Listen here Patriot and Chief,” he began in his cool baritone, “I hope y’all watched that match real closely. What Johnny Lawless just did to the Kid is just a preview of what we’re fixin’ to do to you tonight!” Bowman snatched the microphone from his teammate. “I’m ***-damned glad we ain’t on ****in’ tele-****ing-vision tonight! ‘Cuz F-Bomb’s had to watch his ****in’ language since some ****in’ ***-damned little ****in’ kids may be ****in’ watching Texas Wrestling. Well **** you, you stupid *** little ******! I’m Floyd ****in’ Bowman and you ain’t shuttin’ my ****in’ *** up at Back in the ****in’ Saddle!” Lawless pulled the microphone from Bowman’s grasp, wiping the spit off it before continuing. “Bottom line,” he began in his Texas drawl, “is that the Outlaws still run TWL and are gonna prove it tonight in the main event when my boys here take out the Masked Loser and Squaw Two Birds!” C-

TWL 6-Man Title Match: Pain/New Zealand Game Hunters © v. Disciples of Evilness (Demon Anger/Demon Spite/Professor Nero)

Billy’s Take: Power moves? Check. Lots of growling and grunting? Check. Flying dropkicks and Greco-Roman wrestling holds? Not in this one. This was an all-out brawl and it took all of my effort to keep this one going without all six men entering the ring at once. In the end, the fight spilled out onto the floor and I had to count out both teams, making this match a double countout and settling nothing between these six beasts.

Pain/NZGH went to a double countout with the Disciples of Evilness. Pain/NZGH retained the TWL 6-Man Titles

Bodyslam Challenge: Giant Grimsley w/Captain USA v. Comrade Popinowski w/Sheik Mustafa

Billy’s Take: Grimsley came out first, cheered by the raucous pro-American crowd. Captain USA followed him to the ring, enthusiastically waving an American flag and starting a loud chant of ‘U…S…A’. When Popinowski came out, the crowd turned violent, screaming obscenities at the Polish powerhouse. They turned even more vicious when Mustafa emerged, waving a Soviet flag. I announced the rules of this match to the crowd on the microphone, reminding them that the match would end with the first competitor to bodyslam the other. This ‘match’ was little more than punches and bodyslam attempts and even the dueling flag wavers failed to keep the crowd from growing a little bored. Finally this ended when Mustafa pulled Grimsley’s foot out from under him when he had hoisted Popinowski in the air, in position for a slam. Popinowski recovered and was able to then slam the Giant to pick up the win.

Sacramento Streetfight: ‘Old School’ Edmond Jackson v. ‘New School’ Jason Jackson

Billy’s Take: I announced before this match that Jason Jackson had declared this to be a Sacramento Streetfight, in his words the most violent match in all of wrestling. This was little more than a typical streetfight with neither man willing to back down. Back and forth the two went, first Old School gaining the upper-hand and then his son cheating to turn the tide of the match. In the end, son bested father after blasting Edmond with a pair of brass knuckles tucked discretely in his boots. He made the pinfall to pick up the win, celebrating afterwards as if he’d won the recent Super Bowl.

Lawrence Grove conducted an interview with Cheatin’ Mike Barstow in the middle of the ring. “Mr. Barstow, I understand that you have not been medically cleared to wrestle Luis Montero tonight. Is that true?” “For once Larry you got your facts straight. That quack of a doctor said I couldn’t wrassle Cheatin’ Luis with a broken wrist. And you know what I told him? I told him to **** off. I’m goin’ to beat Cheatin’ Luis like a government mule and he won’t have any excuses when he loses!” C

TWL Tag Team Title Match: Crimson Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper) v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami) w/‘New School’ Jason Jackson

Billy’s Take: Double Disaster came out first, backed by their enthusiastic supporter Jason Jackson. The champions emerged next, their title belts hanging languidly on their waists. For the first time in several months, the Cult brought along their large, writhing burlap sack to the ring. Jackson seemed wary of the snake inside the bag and positioned himself in the corner furthest from it. Inside the ring, these men brawled back and forth, both sides getting a chance to shine. Apparently Jackson felt that the match was slipping from his huge Samoan duo and jumped up on the ring apron, brandishing his trusty brass knuckles. I ran over to scold him, but apparently he tossed them over my head toward Eruption. As I learned later, Cobra slid between the brass knucks and the intended target, grabbed the foreign device and blasted Eruption in the forehead, making the pinfall.

The brawl between these two teams continued, spilling out into the aisles of the arena and eventually moving backstage as stagehands unsuccessfully tried to break the teams apart. These men clearly still have unresolved issues! C-

Luis Montero w/Shannon v. Cheatin’ Mike Barstow

Billy’s Take: Montero came out first, leading Shannon by the hand, and seeming focused on his upcoming match. When Cheatin’ Mike came out, he noticeably favored his broken arm, demonstratively waving it around for all to see. This match was as impressive as their last – both men seemed to thrive in a high-profile encounter. Back and forth the two went until Barstow landed awkwardly on his wrist following a slam by Montero. Montero immediately looked concerned and dropped to his knees beside Barstow. Cheatin’ Mike took advantage of the momentary distraction to blast Luis with his cast, knocking out the Mexican superstar almost instantly. He rolled onto Montero and made the pinfall for the win as the crowd roared its disapproval.

Barstow d. Montero via pinfall

Team America (Chief Two Eagles/The Masked Patriot) v. The Texas Outlaws (Mean Mark Green/Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman)

Billy’s Take: The Texas Outlaws emerged first and the arena let the former crowd favorites know exactly what they thought of them, booing mercilessly. Bowman responded by flipping the crowd the bird while Green, as always, looked calmly confident and merely sneered slightly at the negative response. When Team America entered, the crowd cheered wildly, solidly behind their heroes. Inside the ring, the Outlaws demonstrated their typical contrasting styles – Green as cool as Anchorage in January and Bowman as wild as an over-caffeinated nine year old. This was a tremendous tag team match, perhaps the best I’ve seen in TWL. Within just a few minutes, Bowman and Two Eagles both sported crimson masks, blood flowing down their faces and dripping onto the blue mat. The four punched, kicked, bit, gouged, slammed, slapped, suplexed, and chopped until each looked exhausted and spent. Then, out of nowhere, Green hit an Outlaw Driver on the Masked Patriot and looked to have this match won. But Two Eagles made the desperation save and rolled up Bowman as Patriot revived enough to keep Green from breaking up the pinfall. When I slapped the mat for the third time, the crowd erupted.

As the Texas Outlaws rolled out of the ring, Chief Two Eagles and the Masked Patriot stood tall in the center of the ring, taking a moment to soak in the crowd’s adoration as blood dripped from their faces and they held their sides in pain. C+

TWL Six-Man Tag Team Match: Pain/New Zealand Game Hunters (Croup/Vandemar) © v. Disciples of Evilness (Demon Anger/Demon Spite/Professor Nero)

But there will be a pretty good beatdown afterward

Bodyslam Contest: Giant Grimsley v. Comrade Popinowski

I see shades of Andre/Big John Studd here.....

Sacramento Streetfight: 'Old School' Edmond Jackson v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

This could be the draw, but I see dad taking son behind the woodshed....

TWL Tag Team Title Match: Crimson Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper) v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)

I think this will be the draw...setting up the next match...

Grudge Match: Luis Montero w/Shannon v. Cheatin' Mike Barstow

Team America (Chief Two Eagles/The Masked Patriot) v. The Texas Outlaws (Mean Mark Green/Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman)

the teamwork of the outlaws should spell the difference....and set up Mean Mark for a shot....

1/7. Ouch! Nice to see that the matches could've gone either way!!

Trailer Park Kid w/Debbie Dallas v. Johnny Lawless

TWL Six-Man Tag Team Match: Pain/New Zealand Game Hunters (Croup/Vandemar) © v. Disciples of Evilness (Demon Anger/Demon Spite/Professor Nero)

Bodyslam Contest: Giant Grimsley v. Comrade Popinowski - Draw!

Sacramento Streetfight: 'Old School' Edmond Jackson v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

TWL Tag Team Title Match: Crimson Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper) v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)

Grudge Match: Luis Montero w/Shannon v. Cheatin' Mike Barstow

Team America (Chief Two Eagles/The Masked Patriot) v. The Texas Outlaws (Mean Mark Green/Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman)

OOC: One of these matches will be a draw. Which? And why? Bodyslam challenge, shenanigans and no bodyslams.

3/7. Alas, there was a bodyslam to end the bodyslam challenge!

Trailer Park Kid w/Debbie Dallas v. Johnny Lawless

I'm thinking Lawless

3/7. You had the finish of the bodyslam challenge nailed...just not the outcome! And, for the record, Team America has A-rated experience - they've just not teamed up IN TWL before.

Trailer Park Kid w/Debbie Dallas v. Johnny Lawless

OOC: One of these matches will be a draw. Which? And why?

5/7. Nice work! Just missed on the tag and grudge matches...so close...

Grudge Match: Luis Montero w/Shannon v. Cheatin' Mike Barstow

Team America (Chief Two Eagles/The Masked Patriot) v. The Texas Outlaws (Mean Mark Green/Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman)

5/7...though no called draw.

Trailer Park Kid w/Debbie Dallas v. Johnny Lawless

- I don't think TPK is near the level of Lawless Leader.

TWL Six-Man Tag Team Match: Pain/New Zealand Game Hunters (Croup/Vandemar) © v. Disciples of Evilness (Demon Anger/Demon Spite/Professor Nero)

The Pain Hunters establish themselves as a force, plus Nero is probably more fun - to me - when he's chasing and tormenting people then when he has a title.

Bodyslam Contest: Giant Grimsley v. Comrade Popinowski

- I'll be buying beer but after a gruelling 3 minutes of gigantic man-on-man action and both men near exhaustion, a herculean effort by Grimsley to see a bodyslam. USA USA USA.

Sacramento Streetfight: 'Old School' Edmond Jackson v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

- Draw. I'll explain below.

TWL Tag Team Title Match: Crimson Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper) v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)

- The Samoan Surf Squad pick up the win and the titles for not leaving Texas (this month.)

Grudge Match: Luis Montero w/Shannon v. Cheatin' Mike Barstow

- I think Cheatin' Mike'y is headed somewhere else, so goes out on his back and further cements that the best wrestlers in Texas are... Mexican or Native American.

Team America (Chief Two Eagles/The Masked Patriot) v. The Texas Outlaws (Mean Mark Green/Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman)

- Chief and Green have some heavy lifting after that last main event. Chief can drop a match here to keep Green in the hunt and the Outlaws relevant.

OOC: One of these matches will be a draw. Which? And why?

- The Jackson Family San Francisco Feud will be the draw when Mrs. Jackson arrives on the scene and drags both Jacksons out of Texas by their ears. Bad family feuding! The real reason, the leader of the New School is going to Supreme School and Old School might be going to Retirement School. (Plus matches that are designed not to end in a draw are the most likely ones to end in a draw.)

1/7. Though, as always, your reasoning is certainly sound. And I love the name "Pain Hunters" for the six-man champs...may be stealing that one!

From the Notebook of Referee Billy

Hot on the heels of the well-received TWL Back in the Saddle, Texas Wrestling has a huge slate of matches. Here are the contests announced so far:

Pain v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

Pain has been on a rampage since leaving the side of Professor Nero, winning the Year End Battle Royal and becoming 1/3 of the TWL Six-Man champions. But he faces his stiffest test yet in the form of the self-proclaimed Sacramento Sensation...

Team Texas (Archie 'The Governor' Judge/Dave 'Double-Wide' Wylde) v. Demons of Rage (Demon Anger/Demon Spite) w/Professor Nero

Clearly the Demons of Rage are more physically imposing than Team Texas. But never underestimate the power of the Lone Star state!

TWL Tag Titles: Tag Team Mayhem: Crimson Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper) v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)

After Jason Jackson's ill-timed interference at Back in the Saddle, the Lone Star Stampeder has proclaimed that Jackson is barred from ringside. Will the mammoth Samoan duo suffer as a result? Or will this mark a transition in TWL history?

Luis Montero w/Shannon v. Professor Nero

Cheatin' Mike Barstow caught Montero unawares at Back in the Saddle. Now Luis is seeking to get back on the winning track against one of the top heels in TWL. Who will prevail in this battle of high-profile TWL grapplers?

Quick Picks:

Pain v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

Team Texas (Archie 'The Governor' Judge/Dave 'Double-Wide' Wylde) v. Demons of Rage (Demon Anger/Demon Spite) w/Professor Nero

TWL Tag Titles: Tag Team Mayhem: Crimson Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper) v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)

Luis Montero w/Shannon v. Professor Nero
