WWF 2001: The InVasion Done Right

Recommended Posts

WWF.com...

Negotiations between Shane McMahon and the WWF Board of Directors are reported to be ongoing right now regarding the future of Shane's recent purchase: WCW. Of course, Shane McMahon purchased the rights to the World Championship Wrestling name back in March.

WWF.com...

WWF.com has learned that Shane McMahon has left the meeting of the Board of Directors and he had a big smile on his face when he left the meeting. He has given WWF.com an exclusive stating that he has purchased television time for his WCW purchase. That information will be appearing soon on WCW.com.

Following last night's victory by Triple H and Steve Austin over The Undertaker and Kane, The Brothers of Destruction will be looking for revenge. They will have their opportunities tonight as right here on Raw is War Triple H will defend the Intercontinental title against The Big Red Machine Kane! But bigger than that, it has been signed that Stone Cold Steve Austin will be defending his WWF World Heavyweight title against...The Undertaker! We could see a monumentous night here on Raw is War!

Not only will those two title matches take place but we will also see a number one contenders match for the WWF World Tag Team titles as Edge and Christian take on Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit! The winners will face Triple H and Steve Austin next week for the WWF World Tag Team titles!

Plus more right here on WWF Raw is War!

Quick Match Predictions:

WWF Intercontinental Title Match: Triple H defends vs. Kane

The Goodfather and Val Venis vs. Dudley Boyz

Edge and Christian vs. Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho

Kurt Angle vs. Raven

WWF World Heavyweight Title Match: Steve Austin defends vs. The Undertaker

OOC: This does not mean that my USPW diary will be getting any less attention. Both diaries will be getting around the same amount of attention as I plan on putting out approximately one card a week for both.

Yes! Can't wait, my friend :D

WWF Intercontinental Title Match: Triple H defends vs. Kane

Might as well keep the Two Man Power Trip on top for a while. Can just as easily see a DQ win for Kane though....

The Goodfather and Val Venis vs. Dudley Boyz

Hated Val Venis. Still, RTC was quite a good idea so I would quite like to see them carry on for a bit. DQ perhaps? Dudleys really were top dogs in 2001 though.

Edge and Christian vs. Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho

I, personally, don't get the huge praise E and C get. They were okay but I never found them anything more than faintly amusing on occasion. I preferred them when they were teaming with Gangrel but I'm sure not many would agree with me!

Kurt Angle vs. Raven

Angle was great around 2001 so I have to go for an Olympic victory.

As everyone who has been around the internet is aware, it appears that Shane McMahon has purchased WWF's Smackdown time slot for a brand new show called WCW Thursday Nitro. What we have learned is that there are not any plans specifically called for the two shows to invade each other just yet. They will be two seperate entities running just as WCW and WWF have been. So according to rumours and heresay, there will not be a WCW presence on WWF Raw is War this Monday night.

You know I'm following, Angel. Honestly, I feel like these InVasion diaries are great to follow since the WWE really 'dropped the ball' (in my mind) as it pertains to the whole scenario. There was SO much room for greatness that just didn't get there. That said, I wonder how you'll book everything? Will you do so from your perspective or keep a sense of realism as to how Vince would see things done? [ie: not wanting to make the WWE look weak against his recently purchased guys; in a sense, burying everyone in the process]. I'm guessing the latter.

Very glad to see the interest in this one. As you know, I was wavering between a few specific diaries. This one, I think, is going to be a lot of fun, though. Glad to have you aboard, my friend!

I'm interested to see the rosters and who WCW has managed to keep under contract in this scenario. .

I am definitely going to have a few surprises in store for everyone as far as contracts go. I have made certain judgement calls and for that reason I am not going to be divulging the full rosters until after an in-game week has gone by.

You were one of the ones that I consulted about a real world project and I hope you don't mind any future consults as the diary moves forward. ;) I agree that the WWF/E dropped the ball when it comes to the invasion scenario. Vince McMahon is a genius with some things and not so smart in others. As far as how I am booking things? Well, all I can say is wait and see and I hope it makes for an entertaining read.

As an aside for those interested, I am going to be doing fan signs actively within this diary just as I do in my USPW diary. So feel free to submit those along with your predictions.

Also, I had a root canal done today so I'm not 100% at the moment. So if anything I said here doesn't make sense, I blame it on the hydrocodone!

Best of luck with this buddy. Your diaries are always top class! I'll be reading.

Thanks a lot! I've heard a lot of good things about your HGC diary as well though I'll admit I haven't had the opportunity to really look through it as of yet. But it's definitely on my to-do list.

ok then since your doing fan signs

Thanks for the sign! These are always fun and interesting to see how creative people get with them.

Lookin forward to this pal. You know I always enjoy your work.

WWF Intercontinental Title Match: Triple H defends vs. Kane

Triple H brings a lot of prestige back to the IC Title at this point. Here's to hoping for a long solid run.

The Goodfather and Val Venis vs. Dudley Boyz

Should be a semi-squash.

Edge and Christian vs. Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho

GREAT Match here, that could go either way.

Kurt Angle vs. Raven

Another awesome match and as much as I'd love to see Raven go over... Kurt was just too hot during this time.

WWF World Heavyweight Title Match: Steve Austin defends vs. The Undertaker

I smell a DQ finish here. Triple H saving Austin's title perhaps.

Excellent! Another Angel RW diary which I'm sure will be up to your usual high standards!

An excellent time period with sooo much potential!

To predictions then:

WWF Intercontinental Title Match: Triple H defends vs. Kane

The Two-Man power trip was a great angle at the time - and I can see more mileage coming from it. Triple H to take the lion's share of the purse.

The Goodfather and Val Venis vs. Dudley Boyz

In a division dereft of quality heels, the Dudley Boyz should walk to victory here.

Edge and Christian vs. Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho

Big match for the tag division but as great as the two Chrises were, they shouldn't be going over a regular team like E&C - even with the Power Trip angle in full swing. The division needs strong tag teams and taking a loss to two singles stars, main eventers though they may have been isn't good for the division. A shock win for the brothers would establish them as the division's top heel tandem

Kurt Angle vs. Raven

By this point, Angle's star was very much in the ascendancy and Raven's well... he was on his way to being hogwhipped by Steve Austin in the middle of the ring... Angle in a comfortable win to establish himself as a contender.

WWF World Heavyweight Title Match: Steve Austin defends vs. The Undertaker

A clean result on the biggest show of the year. With the biggest audience just waiting for the first hint of some WCW insurrection? Regardless of where the spoilers were taking us, I think a statement has to be made and the first shot fired across the bow to advertise Thursday Nitro. Outside interference resulting in a double DQ.

And my sign for the week?:

"Who's First?!"

EDIT: Just noticed - Benoit is listed as a heel on your roster breakdown - is that right?

Go Wcw!!!!!!!!!

You'll be happy to know that I was always a bigger fan of WCW than I was of WWF. So, that being said, WCW will be getting some love here.

Lookin forward to this pal. You know I always enjoy your work.

It's good to have you back. Thanks for the predictions and I hope you enjoy this diary as much as my others.

Good to have you back as well. I hope this one lives up to the standards you might have set for me. Definitely an excellent time period. I just hope I can live up to the title there.

And, yeah, in the game Benoit is listed as a heel, though I'm not sure how long that will last. ;)

Great first show, my friend, and a nice way to introduce Bischoff's little crew (i.e. on Monday Raw, not Thursday Nitro). It <em>felt</em> very much like a 2001 show (minus the McMahon in every scene) if you know what I mean...oh, it's true...<img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

WCW.com...

WCW presents the very FIRST WCW Thursday Nitro on UPN and what a show we have lined up for everyone. Shane McMahon will be there to give a state of WCW address as the brand new owner of the company. He has already told us here at WCW.com that he will be on-screen more than Ted Turner ever was.

Speaking of Shane McMahon, the owner will be the person determining the main event for the evening. We have learned here at WCW.com that Booker T will be defending the WCW World Heavyweight title in a match against a person of the owner's choosing. Who could it be? Tune in to WCW Thursday Nitro to find out!

In our semi main event, Who betta than Kanyon will be stepping into the ring to face a man who has been his rival off and on for awhile in Diamond Dallas Page.

In other matches, we are going to have the man known as Buff The Stuff Buff Bagwell in a match against the speed of Billy Kidman. That should be a great athletic competition. We will also have one half of the WCW World Tag Team Champions Sean O'Haire taking on one half of the team known as KroniK: Bryan Clark! Plus Hugh Morrus in action and other stars of World Championship Wrestling!

Short Match Listings:

Buff Bagwell vs. Billy Kidman

Sean O'Haire vs. Bryan Clark

Kanyon vs. Diamond Dallas Page

WCW World Heavyweight Title Match: Booker T defends vs. A Wrestler of Shane McMahon's Choosing

Mystery Opponent Guess (No extra point. Just for fun):

Glad you enjoyed the show, my friend. Yeah, I can agree I probably didn't have enough McMahons in the show but they will be forthcoming. Mark my words. :p There are certain people who I haven't been able to write for yet that I am looking forward to writing for in this diary in particular. Some of those include Kurt Angle, Scott Hall, The McMahons, Tazz.
