Gary Steele vs Austin Aries

Steele has jobbed so far and it´s hard to see it change here.

Delirious vs Carly Colon

I have got the impression that Delirious is higher on ladders than Carly, lets see whatever that impression is right or not.

Chris Hero vs James Storm

Storm do have two wins in a row but both matches got just E+ as a rating and that isn´t particularly impressive by your standards so I doubt Storm goes over here.

Matt Sydal vs Sonjay Dutt

Strong costs Sydal this one and continues their feud.

Paul London vs Roderick Strong

With Nigel´s promo on lst month it looks like London is going to be the number one contender.

Week 4 September 2002

LA Fitness – Los Angeles

Attendance: 47

Gary Steele vs Austin Aries

The opening bout of the evening showcased some solid in-ring action, but not much in the way of crowd heat. Both men showed some inconsistencies in their performance in this match. Austin Aries looked very confident going into this match, his attitude bordering on arrogance. He was able to grab the initiative early on with a nice Japanese Arm Drag. He then targeted Steele’s arm, with moves including a Scissored Armbar, and an Armbreaker before locking in the ‘Fish Hook Of Doom’. It looked for a moment as this match would be a short lived affair, but Steele was able to make his way to the ropes and break the hold.

Aries ****iness then cost him, as he took too long lining up a Discus Elbow Smash. Steele was able to duck under the attempt and build some offence of his own. A couple of Knife Edge Chops, followed by a Clothesline sent Aries to the mat. Steele then hit a DDT, which got him a two count. However, he gave Aries too long to recover, and Aries was able to clear his head enough to catch the incoming Steele with a Standing Dropkock.

Aries then lifted Steele from the mat and hit a Front Russian Leg Sweep, before heading to the top rope. From there, he was able to hit the 450 Splash and get the victory.

Austin Aries defeated Gary Steele in 6:42 by pinfall with a 450° splash. (41 D-)

-

Nigel McGuinness makes his way to the ring to a chorus of boos, with the Title Belt draped over his shoulder.

“As I’m sure you all have heard, I will be making my first defence of this Title at next month’s show. NOW Management are going to make a decision on who my opponent is based upon the performances of my competitors, if you can call them that, over the past few weeks. I think you would all agree, that is not a decision I would want to make. I mean who do you pick...’

McGuinness pauses, and the crowd begins to shout names such as ‘London’, ‘Sydal’ and one guy shouted ‘Delirious’.

‘Who do you pick... an incredible difficult decision when you consider who’s involved. Paul London, Matt Sydal, Sonjay Dutt and all the other guys on this roster have one thing in common... they all SUCK!’

The crowd boos this statement, but McGuinness just laughs it off.

‘I mean who do you choose out of that bunch of losers, they’re all as bad as each other... it’s impossible to differentiate! Luckily though, I have a solution. Instead of sending an unlucky sod to the beating of a lifetime, why not just call the whole thing off? We all know I’m the best wrestler here, and there isn’t a guy on the roster who can beat me. So why waste all of our time? Let’s just be happy that the best man has the belt and move on. The best thing for this company is for Nigel McGuinness to hold this belt for as long as possible, and it’s time you people learned that.’

(24 E)

-

Carly Colon vs Delirious

This match had some solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat. Unfortunately Carly Colon seemed to be off his game tonight, and as a result his performance showed some inconsistencies. Having said that, Carly Colon shows some real Charisma in the ring, this could lead to him becoming a real star here in NOW.

The match began with Delirious’ usual antics upon the sounding of the opening bell. Colon looked on bemused, evidently never having seen anything quite like Delirious before. This cost the young man, as Delirious was able to mount the early offense. Delirious hit a Leaping Lariat and a Headbutt, before whipping Colon into the corner. He then hit Colon with Lariat after Lariat after Lariat, with Colon seemingly stuck in the corner. Colon eventually slipped down to a seated position as the Lariat’s took their toll, and Delirious took advantage with a Running High Knee Strike to the downed Colon in the corner. Delirious kept the pressure on Colon with a Diving Hurricarana, which earned him a two count.

The momentum then swung as Delirious whipped Colon into the ropes, but Colon was able to use the momentum to perform a Springboard Back Elbow. Colon then kept the pressure on Delirious with a series of clubbing blows to the back, followed by a Swinging Neckbreaker for a near fall.

As Colon went to pick Delirious off the mat, Delirious was able to roll Colon up into a Small Package for a near fall. Both men then rose, and Delirious charged at Colon. Colon saw him coming however, and was able to lift Delirious and drop him throat first on the top rope. Delirious staggered backwards from the rope, straight into the Cool Breaker. From there Colon was able to cover and get the three count.

Carly Colon defeated Delirious in 7:14 by pinfall with a Cool Breaker (39 D-)

-

Chris Hero vs James Storm

Another bout that had solid in-ring action, but not much in the way of heat. The match started with Chris Hero gaining the early momentum, and hitting a series of moves using his innovative Cravate hold. A Cravate Cutter followed by a Cravate-O-Clasm gave Hero a near fall. A thumb to the eye reversed the momentum, and allowed Storm back into the match. A couple of sharp Clotheslines followed by a DDT gave Storm a two count. He kept the pressure on with moves such as an Enziguiri and a Vertical Suplex.

However Storm took too long bad mouthing to the crowd, and by the time he turned back to the action Hero was back to his feet. A Hero’s Welcome later, and this one was over.

Chris Hero defeated James Storm in 6:40 by pinfall with a Hero's Welcome. (42 D)

-

Chris Hero stays in the ring after his match, grabbing a microphone.

‘We all know that two months ago I was viciously assaulted from behind. We also know that the attacker has been at each of the last three shows, so I’m guessing you’re here tonight. So here’s a message for my attacker. I want you to show yourself next month, no I demand it. I demand that we finally see the face of the spineless man who seems to get off on attacking people from behind. NOW management, make it happen!’

(39 D-)

-

Matt Sydal vs Sonjay Dutt

This was a bout with solid in-ring action, but not much in the way of heat. Both men were looking to put their name forward as potential challengers for Nigel McGuinness’ NOW Championship next month.

The match started at a frantic pace, and never really slowed down. Sonjay Dutt was able to gain the early initiative, using moves such as a Tornado DDT, a Bulldog and a Brainbuster for near falls. He continued the pressure with a Neckbreaker and followed up with a Wrist Lock, but Sydal was able to manoeuvre his body into a position to hit Dutt with a series of kicks to break the lock.

Sydal followed this up with a Savate Kick, and a nice Low Dropkick to the downed Dutt. Sydal then hit a Huriicarana to keep the momentum, but a poke to the eye from Dutt swung the momentum back in his favour. Dutt then hit a Brainbuster, and headed to the top rope. After some pandering to the crowd, he tried to hit the Hindu Press. However, Sydal was able to get out of the way and Dutt hit nothing but canvas. Sensing his opportunity, Sydal quickly went to the top rope and hit a Shooting Star Press to get the win.

Matt Sydal defeated Sonjay Dutt in 6:47 by pinfall with a Shooting Star Press (41 D-)

-

Paul London vs Roderick Strong

Our Main Event saw a match that had solid in-ring action, but not much in the way of heat. Both men showed inconsistencies in their performances, and it took away from the match a little. Roderick Strong started the match strongly, hitting a Powerslam to an onrushing London. He followed this up with a nice Atomic Drop/Running Clothesline combination and a Capture Suplex which earned him a two count.

However, London soon got back into the match and upped the pace. A Powerbomb attempt from Strong was reversed into a Spinning Hurricarana from London, and he followed this up with a Jumping Heel Kick Enziguiri. Not letting the pace drop for a second, London hit a Clothesline, a Dropkick and a Superkick in quick succession but only got a two count. London went for a second Hurricarana, but was caught by Strong with a Tilt-A-Whirl Backbreaker.

An Elbow Drop from Strong was followed by a Vertical Suplex, as Strong slowed the pace of the match. He then went for a second Vertical Suplex, but London was able to slip out of the back. Strong charged at London, but was met with an elbow to the face. As he turned to face back to London, Strong turned right into a Legseep DDT which got London the three count.

Paul London defeated Roderick Strong in 7:45 by pinfall with a Legsweep DDT. (43 D)

41 D-

There was a feeling some of the angles used did not reach the standards set by the in-ring action. The show can be considered a success, it should have increased our popularity.

That seems like a good time for me to jump in. :D

I've been catching up with this diary over the past day or so, and like what I'm reading. It's interesting to see quite a few of the guys I use in my ROH diary game also used in this 0/0/0 diary, and I'm impressed that you seem to be turning a profit with them too.

One thing that sticks out from outside your own promotion is ROH letting Christopher Daniels go. That one is mind-boggling to me. The Fallen Angel was the franchise player for me during Year 1 of my diary.

Thanks for the support, it means a lot as I am a big fan of your ROH diary :)

Yeah I'm just about managing to turn a profit, if a small one (Until last month my biggest profit had been $100 xD). I managed to get almost everyone to sign for next to nothing ($150/200), but when contract extensions come up I'm sure that will change. (Particularly with guys like London having success elsewhere)

Yeah I was shocked when I saw it, but when I looked into it I found out that he signed a Written deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling. So it wasn't actually ROH's choice to let him go, which is a shame because as you say he would have been a big player for them.

A big show this week, as Nigel McGuinness looks to make the first defence of his NOW Championship. After both picking impressive victories for the past two months, NOW management has decided that both Paul London and Matt Sydal will receive a shot at the NOW Championship. Tonight’s Main Event will see a three way match: Paul London vs Matt Sydal vs Nigel McGuinness for the NOW Championship!

NOW Management was contacted by a man claiming to be behind the recent attacks. If NOW demanded that he reveal himself, he demanded a match in which to showcase his ‘abilities’. NOW Management eventually agreed to give the mystery man his match, which will open up this month’s show.

NOW: The New Order has Arrived

Matt Sydal vs Paul London vs Nigel McGuinness (NOW Championship)

Nigel McGuinness will have his work cut out tonight, as he defends his belt against not one, but two of NOW’s top talents. Matt Sydal has looked impressive over the past two weeks, first defeating long time rival Roderick Strong and then last month getting a win over Sonjay Dutt. London on the other hand has been on a roll, and is unbeaten since his loss to McGuinness in the final of the Championship tournament. Will McGuinness be able to hold off the challenge of both men tonight, or will we see the crowning of a new NOW Champion?

Delirious vs Sonjay Dutt

Both of these men tasted defeat last month, and will be looking do bounce back with a victory here. Sonjay Dutt has impressed with his high flying moves so far in NOW, and Delirious’ wild antics have made him a crowd favourite. Who will walk away with the win tonight?

Jack Evans vs Austin Aries

Austin Aries continued his impressive winning streak last week, with a comfortable win over Gary Steele. Aries is now on a three match winning streak, and will be looking to stretch that to four here. Jack Evans on the other hand has struggled for victories lately. While he has dazzled fans with his acrobatic, high flying offense, he hasn’t found a way to convert that impressive offense into victories. Will that change tonight, or will Aries continue his impressive run of wins?

Chris Hero vs Roderick Strong

Chris Hero demanded that the man behind the attacks revealed himself, and this week he will get that wish... but it is not his mystery attacker he will be facing. He will face of against Roderick Strong, a talented performer in his own right. Will Hero be able to focus on the task at hand, or will he be distracted by his quest to get revenge on his attacker?

Gary Steele vs ???

This match will see the in ring debut of the man who has terrorised the NOW locker room for months. Gary Steele is the man who will be facing him. Which one of these two men will pick up their first win tonight?

Quick Picks:

Gary Steele vs ???

Chris Hero vs Roderick Strong

Jack Evans vs Austin Aries

Delirious vs Sonjay Dutt

Matt Sydal vs Paul London vs Nigel McGuinness (NOW Championship)

bonus: guess the mystery attacker

Jack Evans vs Austin Aries

-This is a mystery man who has been built up, while Gary Steele is jobber personified.

Chris Hero vs Roderick Strong

-I don't like Hero nearly as much pre-Young Knockout Kid, but I'll still give him the nod here.

Jack Evans vs Austin Aries

-A Double to ground Mr. Flippy with a brainbuster.

Delirious vs Sonjay Dutt

-BAH! BAH! BAH! <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Matt Sydal vs Paul London vs Nigel McGuinness (NOW Championship)

-Nigel can't lose the belt yet. The three way set-up offers all kinds of scenarios. My guess is London hits a big move on Sydal, only for Nigel to hit him from behind and steal the pin.

bonus: I'm trying to picture the game world around this time, and figure out who you might be able to get for a reasonable price. I'll take a shot with Super Dragon.

NOW: The New Order Has Arrived

Week 4 October 2002

LA Fitness – Los Angeles

Attendance: 48

We open the show at the announce desk with JB and SoCal Val.

JB: “Hello Ladies and Gentleman, and welcome once again to NOW: The New Order Has Arrived. An exciting, and potentially shocking show for you tonight, which should finally see some of the questions that have been raised over the last few months answered.”

SoCal Val: “That’s right JB, and we can answer one question right now. After careful consideration, NOW management have decided that both Matt Sydal and Paul London will challenge Nigel McGuinness for the NOW Championship!”

JB: “That’s right folks; tonight’s Main Event will be a three way! Matt Sydal vs Paul London vs Nigel McGuinness is our Main Event, and that match is for the NOW Championship.”

A chorus of violins sounds over the loud speakers.

JB: “Well we said we’d give you answers tonight, and here comes the first. We open the show by revealing the man behind all of the recent backstage attacks...”

A large man who must have been at least 6’8 and 350 walked out from behind the curtain. He is announced as... ‘Abyss!’

SoCal Val: “Oh my god, what is that? It’s horrible!”

JB: “Don’t let him hear you Val! Well, Abyss makes his NOW in ring debut here tonight against Gary Steele. How do you Steele’s chances Val?”

SoCal Val: “Steele can forget about winning tonight, he’ll do well to make it out of this match alive JB!”

(40 D-)

-

Gary Steele vs Abyss

Abyss made short work of Gary Steele, and could probably have ended it sooner than he did after hitting a number of impactful moves. However, he didn’t go for the pin, seemingly intent on causing Steele as much physical pain as possible.

Abyss hit a Big Boot early, and Gary Steele never recovered. Abyss followed up with a number of moves including as a Military Press, A Chokeslam and a Sidewalk Slam in quick succession, all of which could probably have ended the match. However it wasn’t until Abyss hit the Black Hole Slam that he eventually went for the cover and got the win. After the match Abyss stood in the middle of the ring and let out a long scream, staring high into the air.

Unfortunately Gary Steele and Abyss just didn't click at all, and it showed in their performances.

Abyss defeated Gary Steele in 3:18 by pinfall with The Black Hole Slam (24 E)

-

Chris Hero vs Roderick Strong

This match had some solid in-ring action but not much in the way of crowd heat. Both men started the match at a quick pace, and traded blows until Strong finally gained the initiative with a Dropkick. He continued his momentum with moves such as a Belly to Back Suplex, a Backbreaker and a Sitout Suplex. He then hit an STO, which got him a near fall.

However, Hero was able to get back into the match when he wriggled out the back of a Vertical Suplex attempt from Strong. Hero was able to hit a Release German Suplex, and the momentum shifted his way. Hero was then able to hit a Cravate Buster, which he quickly followed with a Standing Senton. Hero kept on top of Strong, hitting a string of moves including a DDT, a Cravate Suplex and a Piledriver.

However, just as it looked like Hero would put Strong away, Abyss appeared from the back. He made his way to the win, and hit an onrushing Hero with a Big Boot. He then grabbed Strong, and hit a Sidewalk Slam. The Referee immediately signalled for the bell and ruled the match a no contest. Ignoring the ref’s pleas for him to leave, Abyss grabbed Hero and hit a Black Hole Slam, sending Hero crashing on top of Roderick Strong and leaving both men down in the middle of the ring. Just as he had done earlier, Abyss stood over his victims and let out a long scream, staring high into the air.

The match was declared a no contest at 7:10, as Abyss’ interference meant that the match couldn’t continue (44 D)

Nigel McGuinness makes his way to the ring to a chorus of boos, and the Champion looks less than happy.

“So tonight, I face both Matt Sydal and Paul London in a three way for my NOW Championship... I just have one question to ask NOW Management... is this a joke? I mean are you kidding me? Now look Nigel McGuinness can beat any guy on this roster one on one, but tonight I could not even be pinned and I might still lose my belt.”

The crowd cheer at this prospect.

“Shut up! Now look, Nigel McGuinness being Champion is the best thing that could happen to NOW. I know it, NOW management knows it, and deep down each and every one of you wankers knows it.”

The crowd is back to booing after this statement.

“So why would NOW Management put me in a three way? Everyone knows Nigel McGuinness can beat any guy on this roster one-on-one, but I could lose my belt tonight if one of the other muppets in the match manages to pin the other muppet. Luckily as well as being incredibly talented, I’m also incredibly smart... so I have a few tricks up my sleeve for tonight. Let me tell you something, Nigel McGuinness is not losing this belt tonight! I guarantee it!”

Jack Evans vs Austin Aries

This bout had solid in-ring action, but not much in the way of heat. Unfortunately Jack Evans was really off his game tonight, and struggled with his in-ring Psychology. His performance also showed a number of inconsistencies.

The match was high paced right from the beginning, with the competitors trading Arm Drags, Dropkicks and pinfall attempts. Aries finally managed to gain the initiative with a Sidewalk Slam. He followed up with a nice Rolling Fireman’s Carry Slam/Frog Splash combo, which earned him a near fall. He then began to focus on the arms of Evans with moves including a Scissored Armbar, which he then transitioned into the Horns of Aries.

The match looked like it was over, but Evans used his athleticism to manoeuvre himself into a position from which he could kick Aries off. Evans was then able to build some offense, hitting moves such as a Frankensteiner, a Enziguiri and a Sitout Powerbomb. He then went to the top rope and went for a Double Moonsault, but Aries was able to get out of the way. Evans looked like he landed awkwardly, and Aries was able to easily pick him up and finish the match with a Brainbuster.

Austin Aries defeated Jack Evans in 7:19 by pinfall with a Brainbuster (40 D-)

-

Paul London made his way to the ring with a microphone, waving and high fiving a few fans on his way.

“Three months ago, I was in a match to determine the first ever NOW Champion. Unfortunately I came up against Nigel McGuinness, who took it upon himself to bend the rules to prevent me from becoming this companies first ever Champion. Now, I can’t change what happened three months ago, but tonight I’ve been given an opportunity by NOW management to put it right. So for that I want to thank them... and I plan to do that by walking out of here tonight the NOW Champion!”

Delirious vs Sonjay Dutt

This match had solid in-ring action, but not much in the way of heat. Delirious tried his usual antics upon the sounding of the opening bell, but Dutt had learned from the last time they faced each other and cut Delirious off with a Dropkick. He followed up with a Bulldog and a Swinging Neckbreaker. However, when Dutt set Delirious up for a Suplex, Delirious was able to block the attempt and, after screaming some nonsense, land a series of headbutts that sent Dutt crashing to the matt.

Delirious followed this with a Diving Splash to the downed Dutt. Delirious then hit a Gutwrench Powerbomb, which earned him a two count. Dutt then back away into the corner, begging Delirious off. However, Dutt was only met with a Panic Attack, which got Delirious another near fall.

Delirious then pulled Dutt to his feet and positioned him for another Gutwrench Powerbomb, but this time Sonjay was able to reverse the move and connect with the Sonjay Cutter. Dutt then headed to the top rope, and hit the Hindu Press for the win.

Sonjay Dutt defeated Delirious in 8:26 by pinfall with a Hindu Press. (47 D)

Matt Sydal vs Paul London vs Nigel McGuinness ©

For the NOW Championship

The Main Event for the night had solid in-ring action, but not much in the way of crowd heat. Paul London struggled occasionally, showing inconsistencies in his performance. However, he did look like he learnt something out there.

The match started quite slowly, with all three men seemingly feeling each other out, but Paul London and Matt Sydal soon raised the pace. Paul London took the early initiative hitting a Running Jumping Heel Kick Enziguiri on McGuinness, which Sydal quickly followed up with a Hurricarana to the Englishman.

London and Sydal then whipped McGuinness to the corner, but the Champion managed to counter by lifting himself into a Handstand position on the Turnbuckle. London hesitated, but the inexperienced Sydal charged at McGuinness... only to be met by a Mule Kick that knocked him backwards, straight into a Paul London German Suplex. London might have thought about going for the pin if he hadn’t nearly had his head taken off by a Nigel McGuinness Lariat as he rose from the mat.

McGuinness then turned his attention to Sydal, pounding on his downed opponent. He then locked in the London Dungeon, looking to get the win. However, just as it looked like Sydal might tap, Paul London was able to make the save with a Low Drop Kick on McGuinness to break the hold. London followed this up with a Standing Moonsault to a downed McGuinness.

The Champion rolled out of the ring in an attempt to buy some time, but London didn’t allow McGuinness any respite, hitting McGuinness flush with a Suicide Dive to the outside. The two then began brawling outside of the ring. London quickly gained the advantage as he took his frustration from their last Title match out on the Brit. Inside the ring, Sydal slowly pulled himself back to his feet and saw both of his opponents fighting outside of the ring.

Positioning himself on the apron, Sydal went to hit a Shooting Star Press on both men. However, London saw him coming and managed to get out of the way, leaving McGuinness to take the full force of the move. With McGuinness out of the match for now, London rolled Sydal back into the ring.

Sydal slowly pulled himself up in the corner, before getting his boots up to meet an onrushing London. Sydal was then able to hit an Enziguiri to London, and head to the top rope. The crowd rose in anticipation as Sydal hit the Shooting Star Press. That’s got to be it, new champion! The referee begins the count, 1... 2... No!

Nigel McGuinness pulled Sydal’s boot, dragging the youngster from the ring, before dropping him with a right hand. McGuinness then slid back into the ring and covered a prone London. 1... 2... 3. The crowd boos as Nigel McGuinness ended the show holding on to his belt.

Nigel McGuinness defeated Paul London and Matt Sydal in 8:10 when Nigel McGuinness defeated Paul London by pinfall. Nigel McGuinness makes defence number 1 of his NOW Title title. (51 D+)

46 D

There was a feeling some of the angles used did not reach the standards set by the in-ring action. The show can be considered a success, it should have increased our popularity.

Marcus’ view:

WWE: They have a bloated roster, but still keep calling guys up. Still, No Mercy was a good PPV... the best they’ve put on this year.

TNA: A poor month for TNA this month, one of the least impressive PPV’s they’ve managed. They need to use the X Division more, with the belt only being defended once in 6 months. The Tag Belts haven’t been defended in that time...

ROH: A good month for ROH. I’m looking forward to seeing how they use Lethal.

NOW News

NOW has parted ways with Gary Steele. Steele’s contract ran out a few days after the last show, and I couldn’t find anything to do with him so I decided it was for the best to let him go.

As a replacement, Harry Smith has been signed to NOW. This young Brit was trained by Stu Hart in the Hart Dungeon, so comes with excellent pedigree. He’s still very green, but he has a great look which could lead to Smith becoming a real force here.

NOW: The New Order has Arrived

Paul London vs Austin Aries

Paul London is in the Main Event again this month, after coming up short in the Title match last month. He’ll have his work cut out as he faces Austin Aries, a man who has been on a roll recently. Aries hasn’t faced anyone of London’s calibre though, and this should be a hotly contested match between two men who want to prove they are the best in NOW.

Chris Hero vs Sonjay Dutt

Chris Hero will be looking to get back on track here, after his match was cut short last month by the interference of the debuting Abyss. Sonjay Dutt on the other hand is coming off the back of a big win last month over Delirious. Who will walk away with the win tonight?

Delirious vs Roderick Strong

Both of these men will be looking to improve on their results from last month. Delirious tasted defeat at the hands of Sonjay Dutt, and Roderick Strong... well he just tasted canvas, as he was destroyed by the debuting Abyss. Who can get back on track here?

Carly Colon vs James Storm

Both men missed the last show, but will be in action tonight. Carly Colon struggled at the start of his NOW career, but is currently on a three match winning streak. James Storm has had mixed fortunes so far in NOW, losing as many matches as he has won. Can he get back on track tonight?

Harry Smith vs Abyss

Smith faces a real baptism of fire on his NOW debut. However, Smith is a graduate of the world renowned Hart dungeon so should be able to hold his own in the ring. He makes his NOW debut tonight against Abyss, who looked so dominant last month against Gary Steele. Can the youngster stand up to the monster, or will Abyss continue to dominate?

Also: NOW Champion Nigel McGuinness will be making an appearance at the show!

Quick Picks:

Note: All backstage segments would be DVD release only. I’m thinking as a small local promotion, we’re not going to have a jumbo titan-tron or whatever TNA/WWE have. So it makes more sense just to have them as ‘extras’ for the DVD release of the event (at least in my head...)

NOW: The New Order Has Arrived

Week 4 November 2002

LA Fitness – Los Angeles

Attendance: 53

Harry Smith vs Abyss

This was always going to be a difficult debut for Smith, but the youngster started well. He landed a few solid shots on Abyss, and even had the Monster down with a big Clothesline. However this didn’t last long, and after Abyss was able to hit a Belly to Back Suplex the Monster dominated. Abyss devastated the young debutant with moves including a Big Boot, a Military Press and a Sidewalk Slam before hitting the Black Hole Slam and getting the win.

Abyss defeated Harry Smith in 3:07 by pinfall with The Black Hole Slam (34 E+)

Carly Colon makes his way to the ring with a mic in hand.

Colon: “Last month, Carly Colon was left of the card for NOW, and I just wanted to say... that’s not cool. Not only is that not cool, it’s not smart. You see Carly Colon is the most charismatic, not to mention the most talented, wrestler on this roster. Not only that...”

Carly pauses as he notices James Storm making his way to the ring, with a beer bottle and another mic in hand.

Colon: “What the hell do you want?”

Storm: “What do I want? Well let me tell you something son, you weren’t the only person left of the card last week. In case you didn’t notice, I also had the month off. Now this doesn’t sit well with “The Cowboy” James Storm, and I have a way to make sure that doesn’t happen tonight.”

Colon: “You do?”

Storm: “Yeah as a matter of fact I do. We have two wrestlers in the ring... well one wrestler, and a kid with a bad haircut.”

Storm laughs at his own joke before taking a swig of beer, Colon looks less than impressed.

Colon: “What’s your point.”

Storm: “Isn’t it obvious? Let’s get a damn ref out here and get a match goin’ kid.”

Colon: “Now that’s cool...”

Carly Colon vs James Storm

I had hoped for a decent match here, but unfortunately it couldn’t even live up to the opening squash match. Storm took the early initiative in this match, pounding on Colon with right hands. He then landed some high impact moves, including a Double Underhook Suplex and a DDT.

However, a Japanese Arm Drag from Colon turned the tide of the match. Colon was able to hit a number of moves including a Dropkick, a Hurricarana and a Swinging Neckbreaker. Colon then went to the top rope, and waited for Storm to get back to his feet. As Storm rose Colon went for a Diving Cross Body, but Storm was able to pull referee Sean Hanson in front of him.

Colon went for the cover, but there was no count. Colon realised this, and looked over to see that the referee was out from the impact of the Cross Body. Rolling out of the cover, he went to try and revive the referee. Carly tried to bring Hanson around but had no luck, so he turned his attention back to Storm.

Seeing Storm in the corner, Colon made his way over. He went to pull Storm out of the corner and into the middle of the ring, but was met with a beer bottle to the face! Storm pulled the referee over, and covered Colon. Hanson slowly came around, and slowly counted the three.

James Storm defeated Carly Colon in 7:13 by pinfall after using a foreign object (30 E+)

-

Nigel McGuinness makes his way to the ring, with the title draped over his shoulder and a microphone in hand.

McGuinness: “Last month I told you all that I was the best wrestler on this roster and that I would retain my NOW Championship... and guess what happened? Last month I retained my title, and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt I am the best wrestler here. Now all of you people had better start giving me the respect I deserve! Or at the very least you all need to get used to the idea of me being NOW Champion, as I will be for a very long time.”

The crowd begin to boo McGuinness, but these quickly turn to cheers as Sydal comes out from the back with a microphone.

Sydal: “Nigel, you think you proved that you’re the best wrestler here? How exactly? From what I saw, you just proved that you are a man with no sense of decency, and jumps people from behind!”

McGuinness: “No sense of decency? I’ll have you know that as an English gentleman I...”

Sydal: “An English gentleman? Don’t make me laugh! First you screwed Paul London, and then last month you stole that title from me! I hit the Shooting Star Press, and you stole my pinfall. I deserve that belt on your shoulder!”

McGuinness: “You think you ‘deserve’ MY title? Don’t make me laugh!”

McGuinness pauses for a moment, before a sinister grin appears on his face.

McGuinness: “Now Matt I’m a fair man... don’t look at me like that, I am. So, if you feel that I somehow wronged you last month, which I didn’t, I’ll give you a chance to earn another title shot. I mean that’s fair right? It’s simple, win your match next month and then you will face me one on one for the NOW Championship at the next show! It really is that simple.”

Sydal nods his head and tells McGuinness “You’re on!”, before turning to head to the back.

McGuinness: “Matt wait! Don’t you want to know your opponent next month? The man you will have to beat to earn a shot at MY title is... ABYSS!”

Delirious vs Roderick Strong

This bout contained some solid in-ring action, but not much in the way of heat. Unfortunately, Delirious showed some inconsistency in his performance. Roderick Strong took the early initiative in this match, jumping Delirious on the opening bell. He continued his momentum with moves including an Argentine Backbreaker, a Capture Suplex and an STO which earned him a near fall. However, when Strong went for a Tilt-A-Whirl Backbreaker, Delirious was able to reverse the move into a Hurricarana.

Delirious followed this up with a Pumphandle Slam, before locking in a Camel Clutch. Strong struggled against the hold, and slowly managed to make his way to the ropes. Delirious then ran into the ropes for momentum, but was met by a Big Boot from Strong as he rebounded. Strong then hit a Side Slam Backbreaker, and locked in his own submission hold, the Strong Hold. Delirious struggled momentarily, but eventually had no choice but to tap out.

Roderick Strong defeated Delirious in 6:50 by submission with a Stronghold (43 D)

-

Chris Hero vs Sonjay Dutt

This bout had some solid in-ring action, but not much in the way of heat. Chris Hero came out to this match looking like a man on a mission, and started the match strongly. He started the match with a series of Suplex variations, including a Cravate Suplex, a Vertical Suplex and a Hammerlock Suplex. He then whipped Dutt into the corner, but was met with a Pendulum Kick as he charged at Dutt.

Dutt followed the Pendulum Kick up with a Bulldog, and then hit a Standing Moonsault for a two. Dutt then went for a Neckbreaker but was reversed by Hero, who managed to drop Dutt into the position for a Hero’s Welcome! Dutt managed to twist out of the predicament, and exploded with a Discus Clotheline to regain the momentum.

Dutt stayed on top of Hero, with moved including a Hurricarana, a Vertical Suplex and a Tilt-A-Whirl Tornado DDT, which led to another near fall. Dutt then lifted Hero for the Brainbuster, but Hero was able to wriggle out of the back and hit a German Suplex. As Dutt got back up Hero connected with a Discus Elbow Smash, which set him up for the Hero’s Welcome and the win.

Chris Hero defeated Sonjay Dutt in 7:23 by pinfall with a Hero's Welcome (46 D)

-

After the match, Abyss hits the ring and destroyed Chris Hero. After hitting the Black Hole Slam, Abyss stood in the middle of the ring and let out a long scream, staring high into the air.

Paul London vs Austin Aries

Our Main Event saw two men who have been on a roll recently face off. Paul London came close to winning the NOW Championship a couple of months ago, and has been impressive in his time at NOW. London was able to defeat Aries the last time they met, but Aries has been on a major winning streak ever since and is unbeaten in four months. The match itself contained some good in-ring action, but not much in the way of crowd heat. This was a very open match between two very even competitors, but it was Aries who grabbed the early momentum with a Discus Elbow Smash that caught London off guard.

Aries continued his momentum with a Japanese Arm Drag/Scissored Arm Bar combination. London was able to get to the ropes, but Aries continued the pressure with a Knee Drop to the back of London. Aries then went for a Russian Leg Sweep; but London threw a couple of Elbows to get out of the move, and then hit a sudden Enziguiri to send Aries to the mat.

London followed up with a Standing Shooting Star Press, and got a two count. He kept the speed high, and hit a Dragon Suplex and a Tornado DDT in quick succession. London then went High Risk and hit a Diving Crossbody from the top rope, which got him another near fall. London looked to the crowd for support, and landed another dropkick on Aries before heading back to the top rope. London went for another Crossbody, but this time Aries rolled through for a cover. As the ref made the count, Aries was able to get his feet on to the second rope behind the referees back for extra leverage. With this leverage, he was able to keep London down for the three and steal the win.

Austin Aries defeated Paul London in 8:19 by pinfall by using underhanded tactics (54 C-)

46 D

There was a feeling some of the angles used did not reach the standards set by the in-ring action. The show can be considered a success, it should have increased our popularity.
