Stats for a boxing game

I set up a "site" for the game. The site is here and you'll find the game's forum from the right side of the screen. The site is used as both, my blog and as the game's "website". The forums require registration and I surely don't expect any registrations for the forum but it would be great if people who are interested to the game would register and write.

I just signed up as well on the forum. I like how the stats are, but one thing I noticed after I exited out of the game using the File --> Quit method, the byond process was still running on my system. This would not allow me to delete the folder I ran the game from. I run windows 7 pro 32 bit. not a big problem, but thought I would bring it up.

<p>I didn't feel like writing a new text about this so here is a copy of my text from <a href="http://www.byond.com/members/Syntty/" rel="external nofollow">my blog</a>.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="29684" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Hi again. I decided to release a new preview version of the Boxing Manager Game. As you will notice, the game has taken some big steps from the last version and the most notable changes are the possibility to choose your gym (Possibility to start an own one will be included later on) and the look of the skin.<p> </p><p> <a href="http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x320/Synticha/Overallskinwork.png" rel="external nofollow">The layout</a></p><p> </p><p> The overall layout if a very simple one. The mainwindow does what it's supposed to do. It shows all the other stuff and is by far the most useful window.</p><p> </p><p> This still isn't a playable one but it will give you a good look at the game's skin and you'll get to test the stuff thus far and tell me what you don't like.</p><p> </p><p> Here is a link for the new version: </p><p> </p><p> <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/?g16ssvrs1ylo1ho" rel="external nofollow">HERE</a></p></div></blockquote>

I'm still excited to see this progress, it looks like you've got a good start. I hope you can keep it as realistic as possible; I think you'll need that for a boxing sim to succeed. Everthing for the various regulatory bodies, purse bids, and the promotional side of fighting would be a big hit I think. At the end of the day, title bout boxing has a fantastic fight simulator that still gets played a ton by people even though there is no "career" mode to speak of.

I think that's where your game would need to differentiate; focus on the management/promotional side of finding, training, building and promoting stars. I think a game that not only does a great job of simulating fights but also has a very in depth play regarding managing every aspect of their careers could do very well.

Promoter. Really, the three options are trainer (you run the gym, determine how they train, etc) manager (hire the trainers and negotiate with promoters) and promoter (sign fighters and actually put on the events). While each would be interesting, just being the trainer would get stale. Manager is good because you'd be able to scout green boxers and guide their careers, and you could kind of combine training and managing to some degree. The drawback is that there are already some manager games out there.

Promoter is probably the most interesting, but its never really been done. I'd go for making it as real and in depth as possible, from contracts to purse bids, dealing with regulatory agencies to ppv.

I got some good news and some bad news... The bad news are that I decided to start from a scratch as I wanted to dump BYOND (The language I was using) and moved to Visual Basic (I have some experience but haven't used in a year). The good news are that the game should become a lot better performance vice and this is easier language for manager games (BYOND is meant for 2D MMORPGs mostly).

Cool, still very excited. Atleast you are persevering I hated programming when I did it. (Not proffesionally or anything just with school)

Hey mate

Can I ask you what boxing manager games are out there?

I have seen Universal Boxing manager and the engine was absolute crap I deleted it right away..

I played back in the days world championship boxing manager [ 7/8 years ago] It was quite good but the game died..

Can you please tell me if there is something good out there to buy it :)?

I played Titel Bout 1

And it was not a manager it was only picking figheers against each other..

no hiring training or anything like that. Did something change ?!

No. It's still the same for now. Although the engine for the fights is really, really good. On their forums the developers have been promising a new version for a long time that is supposedly finally underway. The new version will have a "career mode" of sorts, but it's unclear what role you'd be taking. I suspect it would be manager.

real boxers... definately not. I think there are too many games with real boxers and I would personally like generated most! <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Ok. I've had a bit of problems with the databases but after a lot of examination I finally got it to work properly. Here is a 200 boxer database file in .xls format (excel). Anyone who looks at it, please tell me your opinion about the win/loss ratio etc. And any other problems you see please tell me! (Things that don't need to be told to me are; rcheckhook, ruppercut and guard)
