Recommended Posts

Beta Version (0.5) Released - Link

What's in this version?

  1. Game commences in 1993. Changed it so the game world parallels the real world somewhat. If that isn't to your liking, just shift everyone's debut and birth years back four years.
  2. 48 new characters added with renders (credit to London for many of the contributions).
  3. A whole bunch of promotions, TV carriers and PPV providers added (credit to weidt for his great work on the logos).
  4. A number of new fight camps included.
  5. A new title screen (as seen above). Just put it in your backgrounds folder (but create a copy of the original!).

C-Verse: Reborn

Start date: 1993

I've been working on a mod for the past couple of weeks to simulate the Dawn of the C-Verse, if you will. There's a few major changes - namely I basically moved everything to start in 1993 (as in real life) for purely selfish reasons. If this doesn't suit you when I release it you can easily just shift everyone's birth and debut dates back four years and also change the promotions around.

I've made a number of new characters to simulate those who were around in the early days of C-Verse MMA (such as the one in the graphic above), while London has been kind enough to allow me to use some of his renders too. The vast majority of weidt's awesome promotions have been included as well to give a number of promotions that will debut randomly.

I'll add a pack of cans which I think adds to the gameplay experience, but obviously they have no renders and won't be to everyone's liking so use them how you wish. :)

Hope to get a first version out within the week.

All that is left for me to do before the first beta is released is to basically adjust debut records and popularity (like the DOMMA mod). If you want a clean slate it is easy to just mass delete them all, but I think things run smoother and you end with some more realistic records.

<p>Looks interesting. Will be sure to download upon release, although won't be able to play much straight away due to exams.</p><p> </p><p>

Good work on the magazine, but surely Cornell wasn't on Stone's level in 93? <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

  2. 48 new characters added with renders (credit to London for many of the contributions).

  4. A number of new fight camps included.
  5. A new title screen (as seen above). Just put it in your backgrounds folder (but create a copy of the original!).

What is still to be done:

  1. The reputation system is a mess as everyone begins with 0. It isn't ideal, but I'll change it when I work out a good way of doing it.
  2. I haven't meddled with Women's MMA and probably won't.
  3. More lighter fighters need to be added.
  4. The bios of promotions and fighters aren't accurate. I'll change the bios of promotions, but fighters will remain untouched. If you can't stand the default biographies just delete them. :)

This is very much a testing version as I haven't extensively played through it controlling a promotion. I've left GAMMA with the default UFC rules, but these can easily be changed in the editor. If you want to run your own promotion, be aware that GAMMA doesn't run very smoothly with an Openweight division.

If you come across any errors or anything you think should be change please tell me. I want to get this right and get as much input as I can from you guys. I understand it is a bit "heavyweight heavy" at the moment, but hopefully with more renders that will change. I'm particularly concerned about the debut records and how early some fighters retire, so if you have any suggestions there just say!

For the record, these are the new fighters that I'm aware of. If any don't have renders included in the pack just say and I'll add them in:

Billy Valencia

Bobby Pope

Casanova

Casper Ribberink

Charles McClay

Clarence Gibson

Cyrano Slijkerman

Daniel Kamano

Daniel Popovic

Dennis Gibbs

Denys Davydov

Doug Greenstein

Douglas Moreno

Duey Roth

Eddie Cross

Emery Zupfer

Fumiki Ikeda

Gregory Combs

Henry Blackburn

Hermes da Motta

Ian Hughes

James Thomas

Jean-Marc Pouliot

Jimmy Stonor

Joe Gelman

John Kramer

Jorge Valenzuela

Kaihei Shigeki

Kalepo Sefo

Kyle Atkins

Lyndon Nusselder

Marcel Beich

Martin Marleau

Matthieu Lanteigne

Michael Reed

Nikita Fedorov

Paul Pickett

Pavel Papkou

Philip Chung

Quinton Blake

Russell Lette

Sadatake Hiro

Sam Westerman

Stanislav Korablov

Sturt Mason

Tennosuke

Wendell Love

Werner Hiden

Some are quite clearly based on real life fighters, but I kinda like that. :)

Happy playing!

<p>Looks brilliant. Will be starting a game with it after my exams.</p><p> </p><p>

Just one thing that stood out to me on a quick look around, ALPHA-1 have "staggering" finances. Maybe this should be changed as that was meant to be due to being purchased by a large video game company. And then if you wanted to, add a narrative saying they have been purchased, with the effect being a financial boost for ALPHA-1. I just find ALPHA-1's finances frustrating in the default database, so dont want them to start with the same finances when they are meant to have just opened.</p>

I haven't tried the mod yet (Just downloaded it and installed it, looking at things in it), but I had some ideas for the mod.

I like 1234's ALPHA-1 financial idea.

Another idea I had, is to have GAMMA start the game with no restrictions on moves and maybe two weight classes. You could also make Matt Tripp the owner of the promotion. Then at a specific point (2000?), GAMMA is bought by Lance Decker, and then new weight classes are added and rules are changed over a period of time.

Another idea is to re-include the Great Tsunami from TEW 2010's narrative into this database. I forget when it happens exactly (I almost think...2015-ish), but it basically leads to a great depression for Japan. Granted, you'd have to GET to that point in the mod, but it'd be a cool thing to put in there if you ever did.

I'd also include the real life "Outlaw" of MMA. Say around...1997-ish, Politicians start lobbying to outlaw MMA. You could have a three pronged "crash" on North America, and GAMMA. A popularity crash, an economic crash, and a financial crash as "investors flee the pressure". The economic crash would at least hurt all the other American MMA companies. OR you could rig it up so only ones you can control will open prior to 1997.

Specifically, I think the real strength of this mod could be the use of narratives, a woefully ignored part of both TEW and WMMA. You can simulate the "evolution" of the sport with these, from both promotions having little semblance to real "sport" to being a true sport.

Some nice ideas, Hawk. The momentums have been changed, and I'll look into the narratives thing. The only real problem is with the way regulation works as that doesn't really match up with the outlawing of MMA, but I'm sure there's a way around it.

Thought it might be nice to detail how my first real runthrough with the database is going. Enjoying it quite a bit as I follow the UFC calendar.

At GAMMA 1: The Beginning, I'd pretty much set it up for Mantas Andreyev to be my Royce Gracie, but he was stunned by Rob Baines who subbed him out via guillotine and went on to beat Frank Analysis in the final by kneebar to become my first real star.

GAMMA 2: Final 16 and GAMMA 3: Melting Point were a two-night tournament as the first round took place in March and the second round in September. In the one-night eight-man tournament, little Italian Francesco Marazzina backed up his upset of Frank Analysis in March to submit Bill Cumming, Solomon Austin and then Mantas Andreyev in the final in the ultimate David vs. Goliath set of performances. I really like how in this game size isn't everything when someone has a heap more talent. Marazzina is a natural featherweight!

1994 finished with GAMMA 4: Revenge as Francesco Marazzina won his second GAMMA tournament by submitting Don Norman, Duey Roth and then GAMMA 1 tournament champion Rob Baines after 49 minutes.

We began 1995 in April at GAMMA 5: The Rapture is Coming! as Duey Roth returned to action to claim the eight-man tournament in impressive style. After choking out Edward Zahn and Sherman Shields, he took three minutes to dismantle Mark Cohen by technical knockout to become the newest GAMMA star.

That earned him a shot at the GAMMA Megafight Title at GAMMA 6: The Megafight where he spent 13 minutes trying to choke out Francesco Marazzina before finally doing it in an ugly, ugly fight. That handed the Italian his first MMA defeat and levelled Roth vs. Marazzina at 1-1 after Marazzina beat him at GAMMA 4 by RNC himself. In the tournament, former Pancrase fighter Rick Stanley beat lightweight Edson Edmilson in the final by TKO.

Duey Roth was meant to put the title on the line at GAMMA 7: The Sandman Rises, but wouldn't accept a fight in time so Rob Baines made his long-awaited return to the Cage to face Rick Stanley in a Megafight. He took eight minutes before submitting the GAMMA 6 champion by triangle choke to earn the next shot at "The Rapture" Duey Roth. In the tournament, Leon Banks was on fire as he KOed Jean-Marc Pouliot and Matthieu Lanteigne but was stunned inside four minutes by Vincent Chaplin who has already fought for nearly half an hour that night. Chaplin took the dangerous striker down easily before TKOing him at 3:58.

Everything came to a head at GAMMA Gladiator 1995 where six former tournament champions and finalists and two wildcards met in a huge multi-man tournament. In the first round, Leon Banks TKOed wildcard Sturt Mason at 1:18, Francesco Marazzina took a decision win over Rick Stanley in his return to the Cage, unknown Russian wildcard Aleksei Chekhov made mincemeat of GAMMA 7 champ Vincent Chaplin at 1:52 and Mark Cohen finished Edson Edmilson by strikes.

That set up an interesting clash between Banks and the superstar Marazzina, but no one expected what happened as Leon Banks knocked Marazzina out at 1:17 to suggest that maybe the Italian was too small. His opponent in the final would be Chekhov who ground out an awful decision win over Chaplin. In the Megafight, Rob Baines returned to the top of the tree to win the GAMMA Megafight Title with an armbar win over Duey Roth after an energetic 21 minutes in the Cage. His opponent would be decided in the final - and it would be Aleksei Chekhov who arrived big time on the North American stage with a TKO win at 5:17.

Overall I think it works pretty well. I can't really help how promotions debut (there is a Japanese Women's one which will go bankrupt without a show), but if you tinker with how many fighters they want in each division there is still space for some regional shows! Overall, I'm really enjoying myself.

Pound-for-Pound as of January 1996

1. Rob Baines (8-2, 8-2 GAMMA)

2. Dan Halvorsen (15-0, 3-0 Pankration)

3. Matthew Dean (16-0, 2-0 WARRIORS)

4. Leon Banks (12-2, 5-2 GAMMA)

5. Francesco Marazzina (9-2, 9-2 GAMMA)

6. Aleksei Chekhov (8-1, 3-0 GAMMA)

7. Sean Morrison (12-0, 2-0 WARRIORS)

8. George Laurent (9-0, 2-0 WARRIORS)

9. Duey Roth (6-2, 5-2 GAMMA)

10. Shizuya Nakae (8-0, 2-0 Pankration)
