WWF SUPERSTARS - Week 2, Dec. 1989

- We cut in to see Vince McMahon and Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura standing on the stage with the ring in the backdrop.

Vince McMahon - Welcome everyone to WWF Superstars! I’m Vince McMahon alongside Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura, and Jesse, it should be a great night of action!

Jesse Ventura - You bet it will, McMahon. Just look at our main event of the evening. Two technical wrestling specialists go at it as Mr. Perfect goes up against ‘The Hitman’ Bret Hart.

VM - That should be a great one. But also, we have received word ladies and gentlemen that President Jack Tunney will be here to discuss Hulk Hogan’s request last week. And quite frankly, Jesse, I don’t see anyway that he allows Hogan to compete against Jake Roberts at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

JV - Well I don’t see why he shouldn’t. This is the World Wrestling Federation. Let the men settle their differences inside the ring.

VM - But the Snake is dangerous, Jesse!

JV - Hogan better have a good plan then, right, McMahon?

VM - I don’t know that I wanna see the champion in there with that maniac anytime soon. But let’s go down to the ring for our first matchup of the evening.

The Mighty Hercules vs. Koko B. Ware

<a href="

http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=hercules2-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/hercules2-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=kokobware2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/kokobware2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Match Notes: A great display of strength put on by Hercules, as even though Koko got in several moves here and there, they barely even phased the brute. Koko tried to use his speed to counter Hercules’ strength, but it was to no avail, as Hercules kept his aggressive tone from pretty much start to finish. Towards the end, Koko at least had the big man staggering, so he decided to go for the Missile Dropkick. But Hercules grabbed his legs mid-flight and threw him down hard to the mat, before immediately picking him up and shaking him around in the Full Nelson. The referee had no choice but to call off this one.

WINNER: The Mighty Hercules at 3:38 (58)

VM - The Mighty Hercules continues to impress, Jesse.

JV - No one can match this guy’s strength, McMahon. We haven’t seen a whole lot of Hacksaw Jim Duggan here lately ya know. I think maybe he’s seen all he needs to see of Hercules.

VM - Are you saying that Hacksaw is scared of Hercules? I don’t believe that for one minute.

JV - Did you just watch that match, McMahon? I’d be scared of him too after the pain he inflicted on the Birdman.

VM - Well there’s no doubt that Hercules is very powerful, but I’ve never seen Hacksaw Jim Duggan back down from anyone. But right now, we’re gonna go to a special video showing some of the recent events surrounding the Twin Towers.

- We cut to a video package showing the Towers’ loss to the Rockers, and the miscommunication between Akeem and Bossman at the end of the match. Then we the one-upmanship by both men in their match against the Young Stallions before the video concludes with Slick standing between both men as they size each other up. (72)

VM - There’s certainly some things that the Slickster has to get worked out between these two men.

JV - Listen, McMahon. I personally talked to Slick myself earlier today and he assured me that the Towers were just fine. So let’s not sit here and make up something that’s not true.

VM - Whatever you say, Jesse. But actions speak louder than words in this situation. We’ll have to wait and see what happens when this team gets back in the ring again.

JV - Like I said, the Towers will be just fine, McMahon. Slick’s a world-class manager. He knows what to do.

VM - He better hope he does. But right now, we’re gonna send it to Mean Gene Okerlund who is standing by with Brutus ‘The Barber’ Beefcake.

- We cut to the back where we see Gene and an upbeat Beefcake.

Mean Gene Okerlund - “Brutus ‘The Barber’ Beefcake, next week right here on Superstars, you’ll have your first round match against Haku in the special Intercontinental Top Challenger Tournament. What are you doing to prepare for that match?”

Brutus Beefcake - “Well Mean Gene, I‘m preparing harder than I‘ve ever prepared. I‘m training like a champion, because guess what? I‘m gonna be a champion. I‘m gonna be the Intercontinental champion come WrestleMania VI! ‘Ravishing‘ Rick Rude, I‘ve proved already that I can take you to the limit. But after I run through this tournament, I‘m going to push past that plateau…..and I‘m gonna beat you. I‘m gonna…..”

- Before Beefcake can finish his sentence, The Barbarian and Haku enter the screen and attack Beefcake, sending him down in a hurry. They start furiously kicking at him, before Barbarian leaves the picture and returns with a steel chair. Haku then lays Beefcake on his side, with his right arm facing up. Barbarian then takes the chair and delivers a massive blow right to Beefcake‘s upper arm. He then hits another chair shot to Beefcake‘s lower arm, before then delivering a blow right to his hand. The terrible twosome then smile and leave the picture as Mean Gene screams for help in the background and medical officials rush to Beefcake‘s aid. (84)

VM - I do not believe what we just saw there, Jesse!

JV - Certainly not a good turn of events for the Barber. He might have trouble cutting hair after that little development.

VM - Now how can you sit there and joke about this? They just shattered the Barber’s arm!

JV - I didn’t say I condoned it or anything, McMahon. You can’t tell me that the Barber will be cutting hair tomorrow after getting steel chair shots from the Barbarian.

VM - Forget about cutting hair. Haku has the decided advantage in that first round match here next week! There’s no doubt about it now.

JV - Well I can’t argue with that. It looks like Haku will be moving on to face our winner here tonight.

VM - What an absolute shame. But folks, let’s go back down to the ring where the team that will meet the Brainbusters at Saturday Night’s Main Event is ready for their match.

Buddy Landell and Jerry Stubbs vs. The Rockers

<a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=buddylandell.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/buddylandell.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=jerrystubbs.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/jerrystubbs.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=martyjannetty6.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/martyjannetty6.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=shawnmichaels6.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/shawnmichaels6.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Match Notes: Michaels and Jannetty looked very strong in this match, seemingly not missing a step along the way. They were really clicking on all cylinders, and that clearly made The Brainbusters take note, as they made their way from behind the curtain midway through the match, and stood with Bobby Heenan and looked on intently at the match. But the Rockers seemed to turn things up a notch after hearing the boos from the crowd and seeing the Brainbusters, and that wasn’t good news for Landell and Stubbs. After isolating Landell to the outside with the double dropkick, Michaels and Jannetty then lined up Stubbs and they hit the double super kick on him, with Jannetty covering him for the three count.

WINNERS: The Rockers at 4:46 (69)

<a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=arnanderson3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/arnanderson3.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=tullyblanchard.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/tullyblanchard.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=BobbyHeenan7.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/BobbyHeenan7.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

- After the match, the Rockers celebrated in the ring as Arn and Tully looked on with scowls on their faces, as Heenan whispered something in their ear before they retreated behind the curtain.

JV - The future tag team champions had a real close eye on that match, McMahon.

VM - This again?

JV - What? I can’t help that I speak the truth. Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard should have those tag team titles around their waits. And come the Royal Rumble, they will.

VM - Well first they’ve gotta get through the match at Saturday Night’s Main Event, and as you could tell from the match that we just saw, the Rockers are in rare form right now.

JV - Form don’t mean nothing. It’s about winning the match. No one cares what you did to get to the match. It’s all about that one match. And I personally don’t think Michaels and Jannetty can keep it together to beat a superior team like the Brainbusters.

VM - We will have to see about that. But let’s go back to Mean Gene once again, as he is standing by with an interesting trio.

- We cut to the back where we see Mean Gene surrounded by Mr. Perfect, Jacques Rougeau, and Jimmy Hart.

<a href="

MGO - “Mr. Perfect, Jacques Rougeau, I have got to question your actions this past week on Prime Time Wrestling, as you completely blindsided the Macho Man Randy Savage. How can you condone such a thing?”

Mr. Perfect - “Mean Gene, shut your mouth and listen up. Macho Man Randy Savage, you got what you deserved in that ring. And I know what you want, Savage. I know you wanna get me in that ring, 1-on-1, man against man. Well there’s two problems with that. First of all, you don’t deserve to face me in a match. You haven’t earned anything. And the second problem is that you are not a man. But ya know something, I tell you watch Macho Man, since I am Mr. Perfect, and I need to stay in shape to keep my winning streak here in the World Wrestling Federation alive, I will let you get in the ring with me at Saturday Night’s Main Event……in a tag team match. That’s right, Savage. The team of Mr. Perfect and Jacques Rougeau against the team of you and whatever unfortunate person you can find to be your partner. Me and this man right here are challenging you to a match. Now let’s just see if you really are a man and accept.”

Jacques Rougeau - “Gene, you’re just like the rest of them. You turn a blind eye to something that you don’t want to believe. Your precious Macho Man has done the same kind of things for years now. He’s a fraud and we’re gonna expose him for the coward that he is. All he does is talk, talk, talk. Well let’s see if he can back it up in the ring.”

Mr. Perfect - “Oh, and I almost forgot. In just a little while, I’m gonna step into the ring with ‘The Hitman’ Bret Hart. And Bret, as you can tell, I’m not too worried about this match. But I will prove to you what I’ve proved to everyone else in the WWF. And that’s that beyond a shadow of a doubt, I am…..perfect.” (91)

Greg Valentine vs. Tito Santana - IC Top Challenger Tourmament: First Round

<a href="

http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=gregvalentine.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/gregvalentine.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=titosantana4.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/titosantana4.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Match Notes: A clash of styles here, as from the very beginning, it was clear that Valentine wanted to slow down the pace in order to keep the crowd from rallying behind an upbeat Santana. Valentine quickly went to work on Santana’s leg, trying to prep him up for Valentine’s patented Figure Four Leglock. Hammer started trying to lock in the move early in the match, but Santana found a way to counter out and regroup. Hammer started to grow frustrated as Santana kept fighting out of several attempts to lock on the move. He then started to over-exert himself, which led to Santana gaining a little bit of an advantage, fighting back with the crowd completely behind him. When it seemed like Santana was about to take control of the match for good, Valentine hit him with a big clothesline, and then immediately went for the Figure Four. He took off the knee brace and grabbed Santana’s leg, but with a last gasped effort, Santana reached up and hooked Valentine into a small package. Referee Joey Marella counted…..1.…2.…3!

WINNER: Tito Santana at 8:30 (73)

- After the match, Santana nursed the leg injury but raised his hands high in the air, as Valentine was clearly furious at the turn of events.

JV - Chico Santana is moving on, McMahon!

VM - What grit and determination by Santana, as he now will await the winner of the Haku/Beefcake match next week.

JV - Which will without question be Haku given what went down earlier tonight.

VM - Unfortunately that might be the case, Jesse, as we still have no update on the Barber’s condition.

JV - They had to have broke some bones, McMahon. So Chico Santana better pay attention, because that might be him next.

VM - Don’t say that. But ladies and gentlemen, the World Wrestling Federation offices announced earlier today that the WWF Tag Team champions, Demolition, will be in action next week on Prime Time Wrestling!

- We see a graphic showing the Prime Time logo and Ax and Smash underneath it. (84)

JV - They better keep themselves in shape, McMahon. Because they’re gonna have the fight of their lives at the Royal Rumble when they step in there with the Brainbusters.

VM - Oh give it a break, Jesse! Can’t you at least let the match at Saturday Night’s Main Event take place first?

JV - I think it’s a waste of a match, to be honest. The Brainbusters are the superior team. There’s no doubt in my mind.

VM - Well luckily matches are not contested in your mind. Folks, it’s time for our main event of the evening, as Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart is already making his way down to the ring.

Mr. Perfect vs. Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart

<a href="

http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=CurtHennig3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/CurtHennig3.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=BretHart18.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/BretHart18.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Match Notes: A stellar match between two technical superstars. Perfect was clearly caught off guard after an outstanding opening sequence where both men reversed each other’s moves and Hart came out on top of the exchange as he pushed Perfect hard into the corner. This match went back and forth throughout, with Perfect seemingly rattled a little by the strong showing from Hart. After Hart starting to gain somewhat of an advantage, Jacques Rougeau made his way down to ringside, as he was clapping and cheering on Perfect. This didn’t make Bret too happy, as he tried to convince referee Earl Hebner to send him to the back. But Bret regained his focus and continued to go to work on Perfect, sending huge rights and lefts his way. Jacques kept circling around the ring to stay in Bret’s eyesight, before Bret finally had enough, and dropped to the outside to confront him. Jacques held his hands up and pleaded with him not to hit him, and Bret looked at the crowd, and they cheered loudly. Bret then clocked him with a right, and then slid back into the ring. But as soon as he hit the ring, Perfect bounced up and kicked him right in the midsection, before delivering the Perfect Plex for the 1-2-3.

WINNER: Mr. Perfect at 10:20 (86)

<a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=jacquesrougeau2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/jacquesrougeau2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

- After the match, Jacques made his way into the ring, and was obviously furious at the punch from Hart. Perfect pushed Hebner aside as Jacques began stomping away at Hart, while Perfect looked on and smiled. But before any further damage could be done, the crowd erupted as this man made his way down the aisle in a full sprint…..

- Savage hit the ring and tried to get his hands on Perfect and Jacques, who quickly retreated down the aisle. Before they could make it behind the curtain though, Savage had a microphone in hand.

Macho Man - “MR. PERFECT! JACQUES ROUGEAU! YOU WANNA TAG TEAM MATCH? YOU’VE GOT YOURSELVES A TAG TEAM MATCH! SATURDAY NIGHT’S MAIN EVENT! YOU TWO AGAINST ME…..AND THE HITMAN!”

- The crowd popped big time at this development, and Perfect and Jacques stared on in anger as Savage tended to Hart in the ring. (91)

VM - What a match that’s gonna be, Jesse! Perfect and Jacques vs. Savage and Hart next weekend in Boston!

JV - That’s huge, McMahon!

VM - It absolutely is! And I know that the Macho Man is gonna do whatever he has to do to get at Perfect inside that ring.

JV - That may be the case, but Savage has gotta remember that they don’t call the man Perfect for nothing.

VM - You’re right about that. But ladies and gentlemen…..”

- Before McMahon can continue, we hear a familiar tune…..

WHEN IT COMES CRASHIN’ DOWN AND IT HURTS INSIDE!

- Hulk Hogan makes his way through the curtain in a determined manner as the crowd goes ballistic, and eventually makes his way into the ring.

JV - What’s Hogan doing out here, McMahon?!

VM - Well Jesse, we said earlier on that Jack Tunney would be in the building to discuss what went down last week, but it looks like the Hulkster doesn’t wanna wait for answers any longer. Let’s see what he has to say!

Hulk Hogan - “Jack Tunney! Me and all the Hulkamaniacs out here have been waiting all night. We wanna know if you’re gonna grant me a match with that yellow Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts at Saturday Night’s Main Event, brother! So come on out here and give us an answer dude!”

- Hogan waits for a few moments before Tunney emerges from the back and stands in front of the curtain with a microphone in hand.

Jack Tunney - “Hulk, I made it clear last week that I did not want to go through with this match. We cannot risk our World Wrestling Federation champion being injured.”

Hogan - “WAIT JUST A MINUTE BROTHER! Are you saying that you think that coward, the Snake, is gonna take down Hulkamania? Is that what you’re trying to say, Tunney?!”

Tunney - “I am not saying that at all, Hulk. However, it is the job of the World Wrestling Federation and the championship committee to make sure that…..”

Hogan - “It’s the job of the WWF to let the champion take down his top challenger! And it’s clear dudes that Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts is trying to test me more than anyone here. Someone’s gotta put a stop to all this madness, brother! Rowdy Roddy Piper, Dusty Rhodes…..they’ve been victims of this coward! And like I said last week brother, whether you’re gonna give me a match or not, I’m gonna meet Jake Roberts in the middle of this ring in Boston dude. And if we do it that way, it’s gonna be an all out brawl, with the winner being the man who can walk out of the arena that night!”

- Before Tunney can get a word in, Jake Roberts emerges from behind the curtain and stands behind him. Roberts then startles him as he grabs the microphone from him to the loud boos from the crowd.

Jake Roberts - “Hogan…..hahaha. You really wanna meet me in the middle of that ring? Well then I don’t see why we have to wait until Saturday Night’s Main Event. Let’s do this right now.”

- The crowd goes crazy as Jake starts to slowly make his way down the aisle. But before he gets any further, Tunney speaks.

Tunney - “You hold it right there, Jake! It’s clear to me that the only way I’m gonna stop you two from getting your hands on each other is if I hold you both out of action for an extended period of time. And I am not gonna do that. So Hulk, I will grant you your wish. At Saturday Night’s Main Event, in a sanctioned match, you’ll go one on one with Jake Roberts. Are you happy now, gentlemen?”

- The crowd explodes as Hogan nods his head in approval, with Roberts having an evil smile on his face. Roberts then slowly makes his way towards the curtain and goes behind it. But after a split second, he returns and puts his around around Tunney, who looks on very concerned.

Roberts - “Don’t even think about yelling and screaming for anyone, Tunney. The simple fact is this: there’s no one in the back that can stop me and you know it. So don’t waste your energy. Ya see, everyone out there can look and see what’s going on here. They see the pattern! It has become increasingly clear that you and everyone else in the World Wrestling Federation is scared of me. You’re scared of what I might do to your precious Hulkster. Well let me tell you this Tunney, I will go down there right now and completely decimate your precious little Hulkster unless you meet my one demand. Tunney, you’re going to make this match at Saturday Night’s Main Event for the WWF Title. Because I want all of our there to sit down and think hard about what things are gonna be like in the World Wrestling Federation when I’m the champion. Think long and hard about the consequences of that. So what’s it gonna be, Tunney?"

Tunney - “……….”

Roberts - “I WILL GO DOWN THERE RIGHT NOW AND TEAR APART YOUR WWF CHAMPION IF I DON’T GET A SHOT AT THE TITLE!”

Tunney - “(hesitating)…..It’s for the title.”

- Roberts raises his arm from Tunney's shoulder, and Tunney quickly scurries to the back. Roberts then turns his eye to Hogan, as both men stare each other down, with Hogan smiling bigger than usual as he holds his WWF Title in his hand. Hogan then looks down intently at his title and holds it high as the show goes off the air. (94)

Seems to be a fairly straight-forward card this time around, with not too much drama anywhere.

Out of curiosity though, where has the Perfect/Rougeaus bond come from?

Brainbusters are the ones in title picture.

I would like to pick Warlord but I have to assume that Windham takes this one

NON-TITLE MATCH

Buddy Landell and Jerry Stubbs vs. Demolition

Even though it´s non-title I jsut don´t see Demolition losing.

Akeem vs. Koko B. Ware

Akeem has more going on

MAIN EVENT SINGLES MATCH

Raymond Rougeau vs. Bret 'The Hitman' Hart

I don´t see Rougeau being on Bret´s level.

My apologizes for letting this one slip for a month or so, but I sort of got burnt out. I didn't really pace myself, and I also do a ton of writing for my job, which is why I just had to take a bit of a break to regroup.</p><p> </p><p>

I'm hoping there's still enough interest in this to keep it going, but if not, I've also been entertaining some other diary ideas. I'd much rather keep this one though, so that's probably what I will do.</p>

I'm playing a lot of Skyrim right now which has slowed my own diary down a tad but I also won't stop or start a new one anytime soon.</p>
