Since then, the internet has been on fire after the announcement that Punk will wrestle ROH World champion Davey Richards for the title at next month's iPPV Glory By Honor X. While still 2 weeks away from debuting on Sinclair Broadcasting, ROH will have a week of TV to build-up the show before the iPPV airs on GoFightLive.com on the second Saturday in September. The Ring of Honor message board has been crashed due to traffic, and CM Punk, Ring of Honor, and Davey Richards all trending topics on Twitter. They also talked about Ciampa's undefeated streak, and how that was what qualified him to be the first contender in the new television era. Generico and Ciampa went back and forth with several good exchanges until Ciampa got the upperhand but could not seem to finish of the Generic Luchador. Ciampa got several near-falls before Generico kicked out, and eventually Generico was begininng to mount a comeback just as the time limit expired. (RATING: 52) WINNER: TELEVISION TIME LIMIT DRAW -- Steven Corino is shown backstage with Jimmy Jacobs. Jimmy tells Steve that they have come too far, and done too much work for Corino to let "this" break him. Corino listens, but shakes his head a lot, which worries Jacobs. Corino eventually relents, agreeing with Jimmy; he has a match to focus on tonight, and he shouldn't worry about someone who is gone for good. -- Kevin Kelly and Dave Prazak talk at ringside about how Prince Nana has managed to turn tonight's show into a showcase, of sorts, for The Embassy. In addition to the announced matches, Nana requested that RD Evans be given a match in hopes of adding more momentum to the group. -- Evans makes his way to the ring, along with Nana and Princess Mia. They wait in the ring for his opponent, and the crowd goes nuts as The Notorious 187, Homicide makes his way to the ring! RD EVANS -VS- HOMICIDE Prince Nana bailed from not only the ring, but from ringside with Princess Mia, as the match began. Homicide made quick work of Evans, punctuating things with a nasty looking Cop Killa for the pinfall. (RATING: 52) WINNER: HOMICIDE -- After the match, Homicide grabs a microphone and swears that he'll have revenge on Nana, Rhino, and the entire Embassy! STEVE CORINO -VS- BRENT ALBRIGHT The story in this match was, again, Jacobs on the outside trying to help Corino keep his anger and desire to cheat in check. In spots, Corino shined with some offense on Albright, but the "Embassy Enforcer" didn't let it last for long each time it happened. Eventually,tired of not being able to win, Corino crawled into the corner and began to remove a foreign object from his tights! The crowd raved as Jacobs rushed over to try and talk him out of it, but Corino already had it concealed in his hand and the ref only admonished Jacobs for getting involved. At that point, Albright grabbed hold of Corino and slapped on the Crowbar for a submission victory! (RATING: 58) WINNER: BRENT ALBRIGHT -- A video recap is shown of CM Punk showing up at Driven 3 and holding the ROH World title for ransom in order to get Executive Producer Jim Cornette to give him a title match with ROH World champion Davey Richards. PETEY WILLIAMS -VS- JIMMY JACOBS What seemed like a good match on paper turned into one sloppy mess of a main event. The timing seemed to be all over the place, and things never got going enough to truly get the crowd into the match. Williams picked up the win with a Canadian Destroyer. An average match that allowed Bennett get heat playing a classic heel while Cabana made him look foolish with comedy spots in several turns. Bennett eventually picked up the win with his urange finisher, which the announcers are now calling the "Starkiller." (RATING: 50) WINNER: MIKE BENNETT HOMICIDE -VS- TOMASSO CIAMPA After Homicide's unexpected return on ROH Wrestling this week, Prince Nana was quick to put undefeated Embassy member Tomasso Ciampa before him on Homicide's quest for vengeance. Ciampa looked great, working over the shoulder that had put Homicide out of action for several months for most of the bout. In the end, it wasn't enough as Homicide's thirst for vengeance was simply too strong for Ciampa to overcome, and he was put away with a Cop Killer after a good effort. (RATING: 60) WINNER: HOMICIDE NAOMICHI MARUFUJI-VS- "THE EMBASSY ENFORCER" BRENT ALBRIGHT Pro Wrestling NOAH superstar Naomichi Marufuji made another special attraction appearance for ROH, this time taking on Brent Albright. After Ciampa lost in the last match, Albright managed to regain some steam for The Embassy with an impressive submission victory over Marufuji. (RATING: 60) WINNER: BRENT ALBRIGHT CHRIS HERO -VS- JAY LETHAL Jay Lethal had responded to Chris Hero's open challenge earlier in the week, and the message boards have been buzzing ever since. Lethal returned to Ring of Honor a much bigger name than when he left, and Hero has been on quite a tear lately, both in singles and with Claudio Castagnoli in the tag ranks. The action started off at a quick pace, working the crowd into a rumble. The quick pace allowed Lethal to get the upper hand for a while, until Hero was able to recover and start hurting Lethal with some stiff strikes. The two worked a series of reversals towards the end where it looked like Lethal was about to gain the upper hand, coming off the rope with a flying forearm. . . but right into Hero's loaded elbow pad! (RATING: 72) WINNER: CHRIS HERO -- Prince Nana comes to the ring accompanied by Princess Mia and The Embassy's "New Crown Jewel," Petey Williams. Nana says that, despite some continued troubles from Homicide, The Embassy is gaining momentum nicely in Ring of Honor. Next, they add some gold to their ranks! ROH TELEVISION TITLE MATCH EL GENERICO © -VS- "THE NEW CROWN JEWEL" PETEY WILLIAMS El Generico played the face-in-peril for most of the match, but would never say die. Every time it looked as if Williams was about to end it, Generico would kick out of his pinfall or dodge his power move. Generico eventually got the opportunity to mount a comeback, coming within inches of hitting his Brainbuster, but Williams managed to shift his weight and reverse it into a Canadian Destroyer for the win, and the gold!(RATING: 61) WINNER, AND NEW ROH TELEVISION CHAMPION: PETEY WILLIAMS -------------------------------------------------------------------------- INTERMISSION -------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE HOUSE OF TRUTH (RODERICK STRONG & EDDIE EDWARDS) -VS- STEVE CORINO AND JIMMY JACOBS Corino & Jacobs came out looking fired up, Jacobs seemed to have gotten Corino focused since we saw them last. The two teams put on a classic tag team bout, with Martini on the outside egging on the crowd and trying to lead his team of heels to victory. Around the 15 minute mark, the crowd started to roar during while Jacobs tried to fight his way out of a chinlock in the ring; but they all turn to see Kevin Steen appearing at the top of the arena and starting to make his way through the crowd! Security is dispatched immediately, but Steen leads them on a chase through the arena. The distraction allows Roderick Strong to nail a backbreaker variation and pick-up the win! (RATING: 68) WINNER: THE HOUSE OF TRUTH --The House of Truth make their way out of the arena swiftly, passing ROH Executive Producer Jim Cornette on the way. "Get him out of here!!" Cornette yells at security, Steen getting closer to ringside as he chased through the aisles by security guards in a scene reminiscent of a monster chase on Scooby Doo. Cornette loses sight of Steen in the crowd, and he continues to yell at security, he doesn't see Steen hop the guardrail behind him! Steen comes up behind Cornette and spins him around, decking him and sending him to the floor! He grabs a chair from ringside, smacking the ring apron with it and pointing to Corino & Jacobs, who are recovering the opposite corner. Steen wraps the chair around Cornette's leg and uses the guardrail as a springboard to leap up and come down, Pillmanizing Cornette's ankle! With security pouring back over the rail, and Corino now rolling out of the ring to give chase, Steen hops the rail and runs for safer pastures. Corino, Jacobs, and some of the security help Cornette up but he can't walk-- they send out a stretcher to help him to the back. -- The Briscoes' promo for YouTube, "Forget The Limits," airs to hype up the next bout. ROH TAG TEAM TITLE LADDER MATCH WRESTLING'S GREATEST TAG TEAM © -VS- THE BRISCOES After several minutes of trying to get things back in order for the next match, the crowd was worked up from the start for this match. They made good use of the ladder match as a storytelling device in this one, going for nearly 45 minutes again and using several instances of near-falls and even one spot where Jay Briscoe had Charlie Haas tapping in pain to a submission hold to put over how these two teams cannot seem to be contained within the confines of a normal tag match. They also used the ladder for several crowd-pleasing high spots; Shelton Benjamin even recreated his springboard onto the the ladder at one point, stopping Jay from grabbing the belt when he was inches away. In the end, after an incredible match, is was Charlie Haas who retrieved the gold for his team and secured the win. (RATING: 78) WINNER: WRESTLING'S GREATEST TAG TEAM -- While the ring crew clean up the ringside area after the ladder match, a familiar voice comes onto the speakers and CM Punk begins to make his way out while the clean-up continues. "You see, it's matches like that, and like the one Chris Hero and Jay Lethal had earlier, that make me so glad I left behind the world of sports entertainment," he begins; the crowd cheers at this. "I'm glad to be in a place right now where there's no Santino Marellas or Hornswoggles running around. This is Ring of Honor, and it's not sports entertainment. . . it's WRESTLING. And that is why I had to come back here, to prove to the world, that I am the best. . . wrestler. . . in the world. But make no mistake about it, I'm not here to stoop back into the indie wrestling lifestyle, oh no. CM Punk is still the biggest wrestling superstar in the world, and when I become the Ring of Honor World champion tonight. . . then ROH, and Jim Cornette. . . will have no choice but to pay me like the superstar I am, or I'll take their belt and split, just like I did Vince's belt!" ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH DAVEY RICHARDS © -VS- CM PUNK The electricity in the crowd for this one was simply electrifying; despite the cheers from the crowd, Punk continued to play up his role of an outsider heel and managed to keep the crowd fairly against him. The opening sequence was a series of chain wrestling holds and counter-holds that showed Richards to be every bit on par offensively with Punk. Richards even managed to get the upper hand first as he punished Punk with power moves and painful submission holds while the crowd chanted "Best In The World! Best In The World!" at Richards. Punk eventually rolled to the outside, and hearing those cheers for Richards made him livid! Back in the ring, Punk gains the upper hand for a while as he taunts the crowd the whole time. These two went at it for nearly an hour, throwing everything they had at one another. Finisher after finisher, nothings seemed to work for either man; after Richards kicked out of a Go2Sleep, Punk finally took him to the top rope and ended it with the more 'old school' Pepsi Plunge to pick up the victory! (RATING: 82) WINNER, AND NEW ROH WORLD CHAMPION: CM PUNK -- Punk celebrates his win in the ring, but Executive Producer Jim Cornette began to hobble out on crutches with an air cast on his ankle. His intentions were to come to ringside and stop the referee from handing CM Punk the ROH World title. Before Cornette can make it, Punk grabs the announcer's microphone. "Don't think I'm that stupid, Jimmy," Punk gasps. "Win or lose, I didn't think you'd just let me walk out of here with that belt!" From behind the time keeper's table, Kevin Steen hops the rail again! He grabs the ROH World title belt and rolls into the ring. "I told you I wasn't coming alone, Jimmy. . . and now that I've got this," he says, Steen handing him the ROH World title which he hefts over his shoulder, "I think that means, I pretty much own you. We'll worry about all the contract details later, but demand number one. . Kevin Steen is reinstated!" Cornette fumes on the outside, shaking his red-faced head and screaming that it'll never happen. "If it never happens, that's just fine," Punk says. "Just know that every champion you crown from here on out will be a fraud, because THIS belt will never see the inside of an ROH ring again! It's your decision, Jimmy. . not mine. . ." As the crowd rumbles, Punk and Steen exit the ring and head out through the crowd. falling_star Posted July 27, 2011 Author Share Posted July 27, 2011 AUTHOR'S NOTE I'm going to try and start developing a voice for more characters, so you'll see more detailed promos like I've done for CM Punk and, just recently, Steve Corino & Jimmy Jacobs. It'll only be for the more important storylines at first, but as characters are cycled around I hope to develop at least a small voice for each one. I figure since a lot of Ring of Honor promotion takes place on the internet, I would do it that way in the diary and leave the light amount of angles on each show to be handled by capable members of the roster (I don't post the rating for my angles, but I can do that if people would like to see them). Also wondering if people would enjoy some more graphics, or if they enjoy the simple format? Some of my diaries in the past, I had created to vast of format/template with the graphics, fonts, bolding, italicizing, etc. etc. that I burnt myself out on updates. So I've enjoyed the simpler format in this diary, but if people have some graphical-enhancement suggestions feel free to pass them along. READER PARTICIPATION Anyone who is interested, feel free to make some "in character" Tweets about what is going on in the world of the diary. You can note that it is an "in character" Tweet by prefacing the post with "@[username]." Feel free to 'Tweet' whatever you like, I'm going for immersion by doing this. This idea may or may not takeoff, but I thought I'd put it out there; my thought is that it will add to the internet feel of the diary. Predictions are also another way to participate; I have deciced to split the iPPV and ROH Wrestling TV show pools. I've also decided that the winner of a pool will be the first person to reach 30 correct predictions and then that pool will reset. If there are two people over 30, it will be whoever has the higher number; if there is still a tie, it will be considered a tie. TV pool winners will get some insight and input into the future of the ROH Television title scene. iPPV pool winners will have a variety of options, and may or may not be able to choose from several options (still figuring it out completely. . . no need to have it certain until the first winner comes around). Regardless of reader participation, you don't have to do anything more than read to enjoy this diary, and I appreciate all the reads (and the nomination for Rookie Diary of the month-- thanks guyver3!
