[release] FictionPlus - My Presentation App for Dynasties

Recommended Posts

So you've been working day and night on your diary and have got over 60 pages accumulated in Microsoft Word. You get to the stage of posting it and "Arrrrgh!" - it looks like the great text wall of China and you've now got to come up with a way to format it so that it's also easy for people to read. Yay forums!

Not only do you have to worry about delivering the goods creatively as a writer, now you've also got to be concerned that your readers aren't going to get eye strain as a result. Dynasty writing is one hell of a hard racket.

Anyway, if you're familiar with any of my projects, you're probably well aware that I tend to obsess over the presentation aspect. More than anything I think that the look should fully complement the effort that was put into the writing. The problem I've found (and something I'm sure many of our other more visually-orientated dynasty writers have also found) is that creating good presentations can take aaaages.

SO to cut a long story short I set about developing a website that would allow us to create rich presentations, where the website would do all the hard work and all we would then have to do is provide the creativity (sometimes easier said than done).

  • The website is called FictionPlus and it can be found >>here<<

And here's a video for how to use it:

<iframe width="425" height="349" src="

http://www.youtube.com/embed/E-1oY_XpdYM?hl=en&fs=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It's not perfect and there's still features which need adding/refining whenever I find the spare time, but either way I hope that it manages to be of use to somebody out there. If it saves even one person the hassle and all the hair pulling out that I had to go through it'll be worth it, I figure

And all I ask, is that if you do choose to use it, help point others in the direction by giving it a little mention somewhere in your dynasty. That'd be ace, thanks :D

This looks really great I'll be looking into using or at least trying it out! Is there any chance of battle royal being added to the match types (EDIT: Sorry I just read what you said features :) ) or is there anyway I could. do it :)

I love it, it looks REALLY great in the forum mode. Great way of doing it. I'm going to have a mess around with it now :) Thank you

Edit: Just did a few paragraphs and then messed up and lost it all, I'm going to try something properly now :D

Wow, I can't believe all the feedback I've got already, I'm glad to see that people are interested!

20Legend: For any unsupported match types the best way to do it at the moment would be the old fashioned way by making up some custom graphics and adding it as an image. It can also be done in the wysiwyg editor as well, although that's more or less fiddly depending on how comfortable you are with it

Before people get started I should also add that this app is not unbreakable. Typically speaking, vigorous resizing of the dialogue boxes has caused me troubles in the past, so keep that in mind when testing things out :)

Another question, if I did half a show in it and took the code, and then after did another half and put the code underneath would it look like one if I put both codes into a post?

Edit: Just work it out myself, cheers :)

Hopefully the conclusion which came from it was yes :) I haven't tested it, but I'd presume it to be plausible.

In which case, that would be a good save mechanism (since that's another thing which is a trifling bit difficult for me to pull off (not so much the saving, but the loading part))

This could work really nicely for someone like myself as I find it a pain in the arse to format everything and oftentimes that process alone makes me question why I bother. I shall certainly be testing it out my friend. Great work! :)

This is something I did for a mess about, it was a diary I wrote a show for but never posted (because I didn't do more than one show :p) I think it makes it look great!

Is there any way for me just to copy and paste the speech bubbles in different parts of a post? Can I use the code for let's just say, whenever the commentators are talking, whether it's in a match/angle or between segments?

Tried it...seems the right dialogue box is a little wonky...

Interesting. I can see why it's adding the extra space above and below (within the box), although I'm not sure how it came to be. (If you're familiar with html it's because the text is in p tags instead of the div tags)

How did you enter the text in there? If you copy/pasted it, it might have been because of where the copy began and ended... as a rudimentary guess at this stage, anyway.

Edit: although now I see that you were specifically referring to the right dialoguebox anyway lol. If you mean how it doesn't always slot cleanly under the above, that is one of the known issues which needs working on. It'll happen with the left occasionally too, just due to the constant calculations which need to be carried out (and I haven't really worked out an elegant solution yet). From what I've seen, if gaps start to occur between long stretches of dialogue, grabbing the edges of the dialoguebox (either the offending one or the one above it) and giving it a quick resize tends to shift everything back into place
