AWF: The Thunder Era (jhdVerse)

Recommended Posts

Really enjoying this diary and the mod. AWF is a lot of fun especially to play. I just had the thought that it would be cool if one of our artistically inclined community members created logos for AWF events and the TV show. I'd certainly put them to good use.

Thanks CamillePunk. I might one day get around to doing some logos, but if anyone else fancies giving them a go I'd be more than happy!

Thanks for all the predictions too - the show is progressing, albeit slowly, and should be done in a couple of days. I hope :p

AWF NEW YEAR, NO LIMITS

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/AWF_Banner.jpg

LIVE FROM THE UNION CENTER, LOS ANGELES CA (10000)

JANUARY 28 2012

LIVE REVIEW & RECAP BY BRIAN JACK

TERRY THUNDER INTRODUCES THE PPV

The first Awesome Wrestling Federation pay-per-view of the Terry Thunder Era,
New Year, No Limits,
begins with, you guessed it, Terry Thunder in the centre of the ring. Thunder explains to the crowd that this is the night that history is made. Thunder explains that from tonight, the AWF will begin its ascent (presumably up to the top of this imaginary mountain he keeps harping on about) and it won’t be coming down. “With the finest wrestling, the biggest stars and the best entertainment the AWF is the place to be”, says Thunder, “so let’s get this party started.” Good promo, if a little formulaic (but then this is Terry Thunder). Definitely gives the show an immediately ‘big’ feeling – after all he headlined enough PPVs in the WWWE.

ATONGA vs RICHIE SANTANA JR w/Richie Santana

*Atonga seemed reasonably impressed by the identity of his mystery opponent, nodding with respect to both Richie and Richie Jr.

*That didn’t stop him from employing his usual destructive wrestling style however, and although Richie Jr managed to put together some extremely slick wrestling Atonga always seemed to be in control.

*An Atonga Kick
(Savate Kick)
after seven and a half minutes brought an excellent opening match to a close, and left many in the audience applauding Santana Jr’s debut display.

ATONGA wins via pinfall (7:53)

That was a great opening match which showed off Atonga’s skills while giving new signing Richie Santana Jr enough time to introduce himself to fans. It was a nice touch bringing Sr out too, although I’d like to see that as a one off – I think having Santana Sr at ringside at every match has the potential to add more pressure on Jr and perhaps even overshadow his matches. The match wasn’t a long one but it has ticked all the boxes.

ENEMIES OF THE STATE vs MILITARY DISCIPLINE

* The Enemies of the State came into this match as the bigger names, and with a better record despite their defeat against Gold Inc. earlier in the week.

*Military Discipline started the match okay, but the Enemies soon took control of the match…

*…and once they were within sight of a victory they were never going to give it up.

*A Stone’s Throw
(Spinning Flapjack)
from Omri Stone on Corporal Punishment soon ended a match that was pretty much a given from the start.

ENEMIES OF THE STATE win via pinall (5:30)

Okay, so I’m not entirely sure why these two teams are on the PPV and not the tag team champions. I know the Enemies are the biggest team in the AWF right now (alongside Gold Inc. perhaps), but still, surely the belt is there to be defended!? Okay match, but I don’t like Discipline much and they did little in this match to make me change my mind.

DRAKE RICHARDS ARRIVES AT THE ARENA

The action cuts backstage to the car park area of the Union Centre. While a number of security lurk around, a limousine pulls up and out steps tonight’s World title challenger Drake Richards. The security officials surround Richards and escort him inside as the camera man spots a figure waiting in the darkness – it’s none other than Chaperone! Nice little interlude between matches.

SILVA DOLLA AND TIMOTHY HAWK PREPARE FOR MATCHES

A short segment to keep us backstage as Silva Doll and Timothy Hawk psyche each other up for their respective matches this evening – against Gold Inc members Marco De Francesco and Theo Barkley respectively. Good promo, short and to the point, although it seems a little too familiar to a promo we had a couple of weeks ago (the first show of the year, perhaps?).

AWF UNITED STATES TITLE MATCH under FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE rules

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/AWFUnitedStates.jpg

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/GarrettSouth.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/VS.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/KISS.jpg

GARRETT SOUTH © vs KISS

*Having seen this match just a couple of weeks ago, the fans weren’t really inspired as the two wrestlers made their way to the ring.

*Despite the falls count anywhere rules designed to make things more interesting than a simple replay, most of the action took place in the ring for the early part of the match.

*Eventually the wrestling spilled to the outside but with weapons still banned, the action became a little uninspired.

*Sure enough, we soon headed back to the ring where KISS almost hit the Hotter Than Hell
(Running Powerslam)

*…but South managed to reverse. KISS managed to remain in control, however, and several near falls ensued.

*While his last victory came over KISS in controversial fashion, Garrett South was intent on winning this ‘fair and square’ and took things back to the outside…

*…where he began using the ring posts and barriers to devastating effect.

*When South ducked under a clothesline and stuck out a foot, KISS stumbled and slammed his head right into the ring post…

*…giving South more than enough opportunity to hit the Southern Justice
(Falling Facebuster)
onto the (abeit mat-covered) concrete floor!

GARRETT SOUTH wins via pinfall to retain his AWF United States title (8:12)

Last time this match was on I said I wasn’t looking forward to the replay. I wasn’t wrong, as most of this match took place two weeks ago, only this time they hit the moves outside of the ring instead. Meh. It wasn’t the best use of South or KISS, they didn’t make the most of the stipulation and I’m still not hugely convinced by either of them. Still, it was no worse than last time around, it just wasn’t any better either.

SILVA DOLLA vs MARCO DE FRANCESCO w/Owen Money

*Silva Dolla has put in some fantastic performances of late, and that continued here in a great match against youngster Marco De Francesco.

*De Francesco has proven himself to be a difficult opponent to beat since joining the AWF, and that came across in a very open match.

*With the fans behind him, Silva Dolla looked confident in the ring, and he used that to put himself firmly in the lead.

*De Francesco didn’t want to go out without a fight, however, and he threw Silva Dolla to the outside in an attempt to get him counted out.

*Even Owen Money got in on the action, stomping Dolla while De Francesco distracted the ref.

*But none of that seemed to phase Dolla who just kept coming back for more.

*In the end, it would take an act of desperation to separate the two as De Francesco clambered outside for a chair and swung wildly at Dolla…

*…but missed! The referee called for the bell just as Dolla started up the Dolla Sign
(Punch Combo with theatrics)
.

SILVA DOLLA wins via disqualification (7:08)

Did the referee jump the gun there? Dolla looked a bit unimpressed at having started his finisher only for the referee to call for a disqualification. He still wins, and Marco De Francesco looked great for a midcard talent, but the ending isn’t one I’d be writing home about. Apart from the referee’s blunder, this one had all the makings of a classic.

CHAPERONE SHOWS HIS CONFIDENCE ABOUT MAIN EVENT

We’re off to that favourite place of AWF TV, the backstage area where this time Chaperone is preparing for his match by confidently telling Owen Money, Theo Barkley and Marco De Francesco (who has just lost remember) that he is guaranteed to win tonight’s main event and therefore doesn’t need to hit a punching bag, do sit-ups or run laps of the arena – a cold beer and some TV is all the preparation he needs for a match that’s already in the bag. Now I know Chaperone – that’s his attitude to every match. Seriously, I have never seen that man train for a match ever. Good promo work though.

JOHNNY HOLLYWOOD ATTEMPTS TO RECRUIT CORE...AGAIN

Two weeks ago Johnny Hollywood offered to become Core’s manager or tag team partner…or something. It makes no sense, and the guy’s a reality TV winner, but I’m doing my best to enjoy this segment. We’re at a bit of a distance, presumably because the cameraman is scared of Core, but Hollywood and Core certainly seem to be getting along. Hollywood notices the camera and laughs, hands Core a piece of paper, pats him on the back and leaves. Core, not one for physical contact unless it involves violence, looks angry but Hollywood doesn’t seem to notice. By look, I mean as a general aura of angriness, obviously his mask doesn’t give away much in the way of expression. I guess someone thinks this storyline is a good idea. I suppose for Hollywood fans, at least he got on the PPV again. This segment was okay, but I must be feeling generous -

JEAN-CLAUDE GIROUX vs WILSON HANCOCK w/Adrienne

*This match had the potential to be great, with two strong wrestlers going head-to-head…

*…unfortunately two things got in its way…

*…the short duration…

*…and the poor chemistry between the two.

*The match had barely begun when it spilled to the outside, and with a number of weapons coming into play and the referee was forced to throw it out rather than worry about whether a double DQ or count out was the correct decision.

JEAN-CLAUDE GIROUX drew with WILSON HANCOCK when the match descended into chaos (3:38)

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/Adrienne.jpg

Having both been disqualified/counted out by the referee, Giroux and Hancock continue their chaotic brawl in the ring, and on the outside. As Wilson Hancock’s valet Adrienne attempts to break things up she gets knocked back by a flailing limb. Seeing red, Adrienne pulls Giroux from Hancock and they both stand up shocked…and then Adrienne flattens both men with some vicious punches of her own!

Ouch! Considering how strong this storyline has been, that match did not go well at all. The decision to have the match thrown out made perfect sense, but even in four minutes it was obvious that these two don’t click at all. Missed spots, bumping into each other, timing all over the place. It’s a real shame as this match could have been huge. Adrienne continues the feud by laying both men out (she’s got a mean right hook!), but after that match I’m not sure how they will proceed. Disappointing.

Before the next match begins a short highlights video plays recapping the feud between Herculez and Towerblock and their battle to find the ‘greatest big man in wrestling ever’. Or something like that. Good video – short and to the point.

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/Herculez.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/VS.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/Towerblock.jpg

HERCULEZ vs TOWERBLOCK

*Two of the biggest wrestlers in history went one-on-one in a decent match…

*…but neither is particularly technical when it comes to ring work.

*Stiff punches, awkward slams and a lot of growling made up most of the match, and the contest was very open throughout.

*Herculez attempted to lock in a bear hug but couldn’t get a proper grip…

*…while Towerblock attempted to Chokeslam Herculez but couldn’t lift him high enough off the ground.

*In the end, Herculez managed to clothesline Towerblock over the top rope, and as the big man landed awkwardly he struggled to get back into the ring…

*…only for the referee to count him out!

HERCULEZ wins via count out (10:25)

Not convinced by this one. I thought for sure Towerblock was going to win, and while a victory for Herc makes him a real challenger to the main event slots I’m not sure how it does Towerblock any good. This was never going to be a classic, but for what it was worth – ending aside – this one was okay.

Before the next match the action cuts to the backstage area where Sebastian Curtis tells Kitty Reardon that he can’t wait to prove to every AWF fan out there what he has been telling them all along – that Vincent I. Parker doesn’t deserve to be in the same ring as him. Why, Reardon asks. “Because I’m just too damn perfect” is the arrogant reply.

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/SebastianCurtis.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/VS.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/VincentIParker.jpg

SEBASTIAN CURTIS vs VINCENT I PARKER

*Sebastian Curtis wrestled like a man on a mission from the opening bell, determined to prove a point against Vincent Parker.

*Parker was also out to prove a point, that he can ‘roll with the best’, but the quickness of Curtis’ grappling meant he struggled to get much of a hold on proceedings.

*Curtis looked excellent out there, and while Parker got in enough attacks to look like a legitimate challenger, Curtis was the real star in this contest.

*In the end Curtis decided to rub Parker’s nose in it, hitting VIP’s own finisher Out of the Park (Huge Clothesline) on the younger star before going for the pin…

*…making sure to use the ring ropes for a little extra leverage of course!

SEBASTIAN CURTIS wins via pinfall by using the ring ropes (8:46)

Excellent interview from Curtis, as usual, and once again he dazzles in the ring. Vincent Parker was able to match Curtis move-for-move, perhaps not in terms of the story told, but in terms of selling and move selection he put on a real show. Excellent match, although I’m not sure how the final two matches will be able to live up to this.

We are just moments away from the semi-main event, but we have just enough time for an excellent promo from Timothy Hawk. Full of his usual catchphrases, witty barbs and quick wit, Hawk tells fans that Theo Barkley deserves to face Justice, after Primetime’s attack last month cost him the title. The fans, it seems, agree.

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/TimothyHawk.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/VS.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/TheoBarkley.jpg

TIMOTHY HAWK vs THEO BARKLEY w/Owen Money

*Everyone in the crowd knew which way this match was going to go, and few were surprised by the outcome.

*Theo Barkley’s appearance in a PPV semi-main event is a testament to his progress, but he is not yet at the same level as Timothy Hawk, who used all is main event experience to remain in control of this match.

*Barkley started strongly, using his size and power to good advantage…

*…but everytime he knocked Hawk down the babyface just got back up.

*In one particularly entertaining exchange, Barkley and Hawk stood in the centre of the ring trading punches until finally both men collapsed to their knees from exhaustion.

*But in the end, Hawk was always the likely winner and a Justice Slam
(Full Nelson Slam)
after the nine minute mark put this match to bed.

TIMOTHY HAWK wins via pinfall (9:13)

Well, I didn’t expect that. A good match from Theo Barkley – we’ve seen it all now! Timothy Hawk did his thing, and the fans got behind it (except for those few nerds in the front row). The decisive finish suggests to me that this feud has finished, and to be honest although it has only been going on for four or five weeks, it is a good time to draw things to a close and move both men forward. Good semi-main event, that sets the crowd up nicely for the big finale.

With just minutes until the PPV’s headline match – the AWF World Title bout between Chaperone and Drake Richards we are reminded of the feud that has been raging between these two for years. Although the video understandably focuses on the events of the previous month, we are also shown reminders of their tag team breakup, and previous title fights. By the time the video is complete the crowd is on their feet and ready for their main event!

AWF WORLD TITLE MATCH

w/Owen Money CHAPERONE vs DRAKE RICHARDS

*This match had all the makings of a classic…

*…and it didn’t disappoint.

*The history of these two men made the match all the more intriguing, but their ability to perform in the ring made it all the more exciting.

*As is often the case with these two the match swung back and forth between the power of Chaperone and the speed and agility of Richards.

*Both men missed high risk moves, both narrowly escaped finisher attempts, and both kicked out of pinfall attempts.

*After some excellent in-ring action it would be Richards that would take control, rocking Chaperone with a series of quick, sharp jabs and dropkicks to the knee.

*After staggering the big man with a huge superkick, Richards went on to the top rope, looking to hit his finisher…

*…only for Owen Money to push him from the top rop! How did the referee miss that!

*Chaperone came to just in time to react, hitting Richards with an Elevated Powerbomb right in the centre of the ring to retain his gold, one way or another.

CHAPERONE wins via pinfall (12:48)

With the match over, Drake Richards turns to Owen Money and gets ready to attack, only for Chaperone to blindside him once again. Soon Timothy Hawk is charging down to the ring to save Richards, only for Theo Barkley, Silva Dolla and Marco De Francesco to follow. The show ends with a number of officials and other members of the roster pulling the six men apart as Terry Thunder looks on from the top of the ramp.

Excellent end to the show. Need I say more?

BRIAN JACK'S OVERALL THOUGHTS

This was a good show that did a good job of building up towards a great finale. Some of the matches weren't as great as they could have been - with Hancock and Giroux being the biggest disappointment - and we didn't have a match of the caliber of Giroux and Richards earlier in the month, but on the whole this was a strong card that saw everyone deliver.

Great show jhd. I'm still enjoying this, which despite your write up suggesting otherwise, includes Hollywood's attempts to woo Core. It makes me think of the Kane/Corporation/DX angles of old.

And I'm not convinced Curtis needed to grab the ropes to win, but I'm sure he probably just did that to make sure. ;)

Agreed, Sebs.

This is a great diary, jhd. I'm glad I caught up. Your view of AWF has bled into my game world, too FYI; the way you portray the characters are the way they are, in my mind. Kudos. :)

Thanks to you both! Things will slow down for the next week probably but then I'll be back up and running.

And Sebs, I'm sure Curtis is just the cautious type - he likes winning too much :D

LIVE REVIEW & RECAP BY BRIAN JACK

AWF WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/AWFTag.jpg

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/BryceChristensen.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/JonahChristensen.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/VS.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/Slip.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/Slide.jpg

w/Nikita THE CHRISTENSEN vs SLIP & SLIDE

*Following on from their dark match at last Sunday’s PPV, these two teams aimed to prove that leaving them from the main show was a big mistake.

*Having lost said match last Sunday, Slip & Slide had everything to play for against the tag team champions and began the match with great style…

*…but soon enough the Christensens were fighting back and the young cruiserweights took control.

*Sensing yet another defeat, Slip took matters into his own hands and attempted to bully Nikita from ringside, hoping that the distraction would be enough for his partner to steal the win…

*…but it didn’t work and instead Nikita decked him with a fierce right hand! Clearly the rumours about her training are true!

*Inside the ring Bryce Christensen hit Slide with the Surf’s Up
(Corkscrew Neckbreaker)
to seal the win.

THE CHRISTENSENS win via pinfall to retain the AWF World Tag Team titles (6:49)

Okay, so now we know why this match wasn’t on the main PPV. It wasn’t all that bad in terms of ring skills, but it was bland, uninteresting and the fans couldn’t care less. Not the finest opening ever considering how well the PPV finished.

TERRY THUNDER CONGRATULATES THE ROSTER ON LAST WEEK'S PPV

With that opening classic out of the way both teams depart to be replaced in the ring by the man himself, Terry Thunder. Thunder congratulates everyone on the roster for a fantastic PPV and reveals that New Year, No Limits, broke the PPV buy rate record for the company (which we revealed to you earlier in the week, you’re welcome). Thunder continues by saying that the worst thing the AWF could do right now is to rest on its laurels (Thunder’s laurels have been resting since 1995!), and so tonight’s main event is going to be the type of match that will get people talking. That’s because, tonight’s main event will be Towerblock against Drake Richards! That is a great TV main event, I must admit – looking forward to it.

w/Adrienne WILSON HANCOCK vs DERRICK ROLLINS

*Wilson Hancock had the shortest match at New Year, No Limits, and not for the right reasons after his contest with Jean-Claude Giroux was called to a halt after only three and a bit minutes.

*Determined to put that match out of his mind, Hancock started his match against Derrick Rollins like a man possessed.

*Rollins managed to get in some offence, but he was quite clearly stunned by the ferocity of Hancock’s start.

*After the seven minute mark Rollins was tapping out to the This One’s For The Ladies
(Reverse Figure Four Leglock)
, the man in the wrong place at exactly the wrong time.

WILSON HANCOCK wins via submission (7:08)

Wilson Hancock celebrates his victory with Adrienne, but before Hancock has even begun to head back up the ramp the music of French superstar Jean-Claude Giroux interrupts. Giroux walks to the stage dressed in a shirt and jeans and with a microphone in hand – he is not, he promises, here to fight. Instead, Giroux says, he is here to end things once and for all. He has realised that this fight over Adrienne is pointless, not because Hancock has won, but because he has lost. After all, why fight over the second most attractive woman in the world, when you can have the first...

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/JessicaThunder.jpg

Giroux then swings his arm towards the entrance way as Jessica Thunder walks out in front of a stunned audience!

Right, lets get the match out of the way first – it was fine. Good performance from Hancock, although steamrollering Rollins won’t do him much good. The segment!? Terry Thunder has only been at the AWF a month and he has already brought in his daughter! I mean, I expected it but not this soon. Next thing you know we’ll have Jack Bodydrop fighting Chaperone for every belt in the promotion. She is an actress with no interest in wrestling. Gah!

TERRY THUNDER CONGRATULATES RICHIE SANTANA JR

We’re off backstage for the first time this evening (we’ve been here for ages already – someone must have forgotten to decorate the backstage area), and it’s off to Terry Thunder’s harem, sorry office. Inside Thunder is concentrating on reading some sort of official looking paperwork (that looks suspiciously upside down) when there is a knock at the door. Thunder looks up and beckons Richie Santana Jr – dressed casually – to join him. Thunder thanks Jr for coming and then congratulates him on his performance at the PPV. Even though he lost, Santana’s spirit and passion should see him go far. Santana thanks Thunder and this rather odd and pointless segment is over. Meh.

HERCULEZ vs CORE

*Having despatched one giant in Towerblock (albeit via count-out), Herculez was more than ready for a monster in the shape of Core.

*Core had a point to prove having missed out on the matches during last week’s PPV and both men collided like a highway pileup.

*The match was an entertaining brawl that saw both men pummel, bludgeon and slam their way towards victory.

*Core stayed toe-to-toe with Herculez for most of the match but the superior strength of Herculez won out…

*…a Herculean Slam
(Belly-to-Belly Suplex)
just after the seven minute mark sealing the victory.

HERCULEZ wins via pinfall (7:02)

Another good win for Herculez, and at least this one was clean! Not sure what it means for Core as he seems to have been booked strongly up until now. Entertaining stuff from the two big men which, I must admit, I didn’t expect. Where Herculez goes from here I don’t know – a World title shot perhaps?

ENEMIES OF THE STATE vs GOLD INC. w/Owen Money

*This was set to be a rematch of a bout on last week’s Shockwave, a match that Gold Inc won.

*So it was of no surprise that this was a tense affair that the Enemies almost had to win.

*Both teams got in some good attacks, with the Enemies once again operating like a real wrestling unit…

*…but none of that mattered when Owen Money called on his team to leave the ring…

*…and they inexplicably headed to the back, Money telling the camera that his team have more important matters to deal with.

*As the referee counted out Gold Inc, the Enemies were awarded the win, but in less than ideal circumstances. Will another rematch be on the cards!?

ENEMIES OF THE STATE win via count-out (6:40)

And…yet another mediocre tag match with a fairly poor finish. This is clearly designed to give the Enemies the victory without necessarily having them go over Gold Inc but we are seeing this type of ending far too often for my liking (i.e. at all!). It’s definitely a catch 22 with the tag division – they don’t get the air time to develop their skills or character, and so their matches are underwhelming, which means they don’t get air time. I’m disappointed, can you tell!?

KITTY REARDON INTERVIEWS VINCENT I PARKER

We are whisked backstage where Vincent I Parker is with Kitty Reardon cutting a promo about Sebastian Curtis. Parker says that Curtis stole his victory at last week’s PPV and that if Sebs has any courage at all, he will face him in a rematch next week. Off camera we hear some sarcastic clapping, and slowly Sebastian Curtis walks onto the interview area. Curtis says that Parker had one shot to roll with the big boys and he blew it. Curtis says that while his career is always going up, Parker’s is going South…which appears to be a cue for Garrett South to rush in and blindside VIP! South lays in the boot as Kitty cowers in a corner, before Curtis slips him some money (knowing Curtis it won’t be much) and gestures to the camera – “that”, he says, “was too damn perfect!”. Not sure why Garrett South is getting involved, so we’ll see how this feud progresses. Not the greatest segment ever, mainly because of the awkward addition South to proceedings.

TIMOTHY HAWK vs ATONGA

*Both men came into this match on the back of impressive wins at New Year, No Limits…

*…Timothy Hawk beating Theo Barkley, and Atonga getting a hard fought victory over the debuting Richie Santana Jr.

*Fans have known for some time that Atonga is an emerging star and although he would go on to lose this match, his performance was extremely positive.

*Timothy Hawk is no slouch either and the former AWF World champion gave as good as he got from the opening bell to the referee’s three count.

*The fans were behind Hawk all the way, and the support seemed to drive him on to one of his best performances of recent months…

*…and both men to a truly superb Shockwave match.

*In the end Timothy Hawk proved once again why he won the AWF World title last summer, and a Justice Slam
(Full Nelson Slam)
was enough to put this match to bed.

TIMOTHY HAWK wins via pinfall (8:54)

A truly excellent match by two men I expect to see in the World title race later on this year. Atonga’s in-ring work is very good, although I wonder about his mic skills, but Hawk is really the type of man the AWF need to have as a face (you know, instead of Chaperone!). No real surprise about the ending, given Hawk’s naturally higher card position but that shouldn’t take away from a great performance. The only problem is that Towerblock and Drake Richards are going to have to wrestle out of their skins to top this!
GRADE: B

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/Towerblock.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/VS.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/AWF%20Diary/Cards/DrakeRichards.jpg

TOWERBLOCK vs DRAKE RICHARDS

*Both of these men had a lot to prove having lost their PPV matches on Sunday night.

*Hoping to win himself another opportunity at Chaperone’s AWF World title, Drake Richards began this match quickly, darting around the big man and trying to take him off his feet.

*Having survived Richards’ initial onslaught, Towerblock began to put his own mark on the match by using his huge size and vast power to wear down Richards and stop him from using any of his more dangerous moves.

*Cancelling each other out, both men tried their best to edge the match but neither looked like taking control.

*Until, that is, the referee was accidentally knocked down. With the official out, Chaperone came charging down to the ring and, alongside Towerblock, began double teaming Richards.

*But it didn’t take long for Herculez to charge out and even the odds, sending Chaperone over the top and hitting some huge right hands to the side of Towerblocks head.

*But as the intense four-man brawl began to build up some steam the referee came too, saw the chaos in front of him and called for the bell.

TOWERBLOCK drew with DRAKE RICHARDS after the match descended into chaos (10:51)

The match may officially be over, but for the AWF locker room the fight has just begun. Giroux, Hawk, Dolla, Barkley, De Francesco, Stone, Binx and Hancock all joined the four men in the ring to start a mass of flailing limbs, fierce punches and dangerous slams. The show came to a close as huge numbers of AWF security attempted to break up the fight and were met by a fight themselves, from both faces and heels alike!

Excellent main event match, although as I suspected it was overshadowed somewhat by the semi-main. Fun brawl to end the show, even if there isn’t a huge amount to say about it.

BRIAN JACK'S OVERALL THOUGHTS

Solid show coming on the back of a very strong PPV. Poor start - in fact both tag matches were fairly dismal - and I am absolutely against Jessica Thunder working in wrestling at all, never mind in the one and only program I have to watch in order to review. The rest of the show was good though - would have had a higher mark had the main not been overshadowed by the semi (which once again, was surprisingly fantastic) but it's nothing compared to the travesty Giroux unleashed earlier in the show. Good card, bad decisions - sounds like the WWWE all over again.
SHOW GRADE: B-

Terry Thunder reminds me of someone, I just can't place who though :p;)

Me either. :p

Actually that reminds me, I would like to point out that I booked this show perhaps a week or two into the diary (i.e. late April), well before Brooke Hogan joined TNA. I may base certain parts of the diary on real world events (deliberately, and usually as a sarcastic commentary), this was a bad decision all of my own making. :D
