I'll post the mid-season recap on Friday, as well as hold the TTT First Round Team Drawings. Under legal counsel, Tori has been advised to keep the show without guest hosts, because the last thing she wants to deal with is being involved in the murder trial that Psycho Sam is in the midst of.

I'm putting the final touches on my Excel RNG sheet, so I'll have that ready for tomorrow's writing as well.

We're nine weeks into this seventeen-week season, and already a number of surprises are making things interesting in this season of The League! Hello once again, wrestling fans, I'm Tori Montgomery. Tonight, we'll go over the performances of the first half, give you an updated League ranking if the season were to end right now, and we'll close out the show by going live to Chicago, where Commissioner Colt Marshall will be drawing teams for the fifth iteration of Tag Team Turmoil.

There's a lot to get through, so let's get right to it, shall we?

<div style="text-align:center;">AFTER THE FIRST HALF: THE PAIRINGS</div>

I do not think that many people thought some of these pairings would have come out the way they have after nine weeks, but that's why we hold the matches, folks! Here's how they stand at this point, and my comments on the season they've had so far...

PAIRING #1

The Phoenix (w/Tori Montgomery)

Current Record: 5-4

An average season at best could rate how Phoenix's Season Six campaign has gone. Against some of the elite wrestlers, he's 0-2 this season (Templeton, Imoka), and he's also lost against rising star III and his pairing opponent. His victories (Stanton, Bao, Gaius, Moore) have been less than impressive, with only his win over Diamond having any reasonable merit. He needs to kick it into high gear if he want sto be taken seriously as a threat to retain his League Championship.

Benjamin T. Stanton, Jr. (w/Missy Callistra)*

Current Record: 3-6

Stanton has struggled coming out of the gate this season, though his three wins are impressive ones against perennial contender Phoenix, the always-dangerous Diamond, and a win over Scott Stevens that was followed up by him securing the LPW Championship for a week. He's got a tough road ahead of him if he wants to stop the defense attempt of Phoenix, but it's certainly not impossible at this point.

PAIRING STATS:

Head-to-head this season: Tied, 1-1

Original Projection: The Phoenix, 2-1.

Revised Projection: No change.

PAIRING #2

Tarik Nolan

Current Record: 5-4

At the halfway point, Tarik holds the pairing lead by a slim margin, but in no way does it look like the lead is secure. His second-half schedule is going to be incredibly tough, with Phoenix, Nuclear, Imoka, and Diamond among his last eight matches. Nolan will need to be on his A-game if he wants to make a return to the playoffs.

Psycho Sam (w/The Rock)

Current Record: 4-5

A fair showing for the League rookie, Sam has recently added some new moves to his arsenal, though this reporter is curious about the footage she has received. Where did Sam learn to do ranas at his size, anyway? He has what appears to be the easier schedule of this pair in the second half of the season, though that could prove meaningless if he can't string together wins.

PAIRING STATS:

Head-to-head this season: Tied 1-1.

Original Projection: Tarik Nolan, 2-1

Revised Projection: No change.

PAIRING #3

Ian Carlisle

Current Record: 5-4

Undoubtedly the surprise of this season, Carlisle enters the halfway mark with the lead in his pairing despite losing twice to Jack Lightning so far this season. With the slimmest lead among those leading their pairings, Carlisle has his work cut out for him if he wants to do what his friend Ben Stanton did last season and make a run to the playoffs.

Jack Lightning

Current Record: 4-5

Lightning holds the dubious honor of being the only League member who leads the season series against the person they are paired with, but is trailing in the standings. Needing only to win one match more than Carlisle in the second half, the pressure is on him to make it happen, but this may be one of the series where a better head-to-head doesn't equate to a playoff spot.

PAIRING STATS:

Head-to-head this season: Jack Lightning, 2-0

Original Projection: Ian Carlisle, 2-1.

Revised Projection: Jack Lightning, 2-1.

PAIRING #4

Johnny Triumph

Current Record: 3-6

This has to be the biggest disappointment of the season so far. Many people expected Triumph to come out swinging after losing in the League Championship last season, and instead his lead in this pairing is based on match rating. He has shown no fire this season, and could be in jeopardy of missing the playoffs if he cannot get his head back in the ring.

Eidenhoek Gaiaspade

Current Record: 3-6

If I'd told you at the beginning of the season that 3-6 would be good enough to be tied in a pairing, you'd think I'd have been talking about Carlisle/Lightning, right? Instead, Gaius finds himself tied with a former League Champion at 3-6 halfway through the season. It's entirely possible that a sub-.500 record could make the playoffs, but the question becomes just who will fill what is likely to be the #8 seed?

PAIRING STATS:

Head-to-head this season: Tied, 1-1.

Original Projection: Johnny Triumph, 3-0.

Revised Projection: Johnny Triumph, 2-1.

PAIRING #5

Master Imoka

Current Record: 6-3

Imoka has not backed down all season, sporting only losses to Hammerskald, III, and Bao en route to an impressive 6-3 start to the season. He's not entirely out of the woods yet, though, as his rival is right on his heels. Imoka will need to continue the momentum if he wants to end the season at a point after week 17.

Thor Hammerskald

Current Record: 5-4

Thor has rebounded nicely from the chaos that surrounded him last season, and looks to do better in the second half. With a handful of tough matches ahead of him (Templeton, Phoenix, Diamond), he could find a way yet to make the final week an interesting one and possibly for this pairing's playoff spot.

PAIRING STATS:

Head-to-head this season: Tied 1-1

Original Projection: Master Imoka, 2-1.

Revised Projection: No change.

PAIRING #6

Diamond (w/Jayde)

Current Record: 6-3

The reigning LPW Champion coming into the halfway point, Diamond has shown little signs of letting off the gas as she continues to push for the playoffs. She already has the tiebreaker clinched against Bao, which in effect makes her lead 2.5 matches instead of two even.

Ly Quang Bao

Current Record: 4-5

Bao has done better than a lot of people had predicted coming into this season. He might need extra help in making the playoffs, but the fact that he is not totally eliminated yet is a good sign that he still has a fighting chance.

PAIRING STATS:

Head-to-head this season: Diamond, 2-0

Original Projection: Diamond, 2-1.

Revised Projection: No change.

PAIRING #7

III

Current Record: 5-4

I mentioned before the season began that I expected this to be one of the more hotly-contested pairings, and I am glad to see that I was right in that prediction. III has shaken the proverbial monkey off his back, beating Stevens twice already this season. Some say it's because Stevens is pulling double duty with LPW, but many (including myself) think it's because III has gotten into the head of Stevens and is winning the psychological game.

Scott Stevens

Current Record: 4-5

Very little has gone right for Stevens so far this season. He is unable to fight for the LPW Championship, he has lost twice to a man he had never lost to before this season, and now his wife is in the hospital after attempting to claim the LPW Championship for herself. The solution is obvious: LPW is detrimental to Stevens' career and he needs to leave there immediately. Of course we all know he'll never do that, so he's going to need a heck of a run to overtake III and make the playoffs.

PAIRING STATS:

Head-to-head this season: III, 2-0

Original projection: III, 2-1.

Revised projection: III, 3-0.

PAIRING #8

Nuclear Templeton (w/Coach Robert Greene)

Current Record: 7-2

The clear-cut favorite heading into the second half, Templeton has losses only to Stevens and Moore, and seems to be the odds-on choice to win it all after nine weeks. We'll see whether he chokes away the top seed as the season starts to wind down.

Sebastian Moore

Current record: 3-6

Moore does not seem like he's been able to focus on League activities. No-showing the last LPW event (and a reminder that at the time, he was their secondary champion), things seem to be going downhill rather quickly for the man from Manchester. I don't think he has the capability to make the playoffs, not the way that Nuclear has been wrestling.

PAIRING STATS:

Head-to-head this season: Tied, 1-1

Original projection: Nuclear Templeton, 3-0.

Revised projection: Nuclear Templeton, 2-1

At this time, I'll turn the feed over to League Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, where Commissioner Marshall is standing by to draw teams for Tag Team Turmoil's opening round.

The camera cuts to a nondescript room, where Colt Marshall is standing behind what looks to be a double-barreled tombola machine.

Colt Marshall: Good evening, everyone. It's now time to announce our opening round pairings for Tag Team Turmoil. Inside one of these two tumblers are the names of all sixteen League members, and in the other are slips marked 1-A, 1-B, 2-A, and so on up to 8-B. When I bring the machine to a halt, one ball from each tumbler will come out, signifying the wrestler and which team they will be on for the first round of the tournament. For ease of use, we will be providing a visual chart to assist the viewers at home, and it will be filled in as we go along:

Marshall starts up the tumblers, lets it go for about fifteen seconds, then hits the switch. The tumblers come to a stop, with two balls emerging from the devices and rolling to a stop in front of the Commissioner.

Colt Marshall: With the first pick in Tag Team Turmoil V...Scott Stevens has been assigned to Team 6!

As Stevens' name is being written on the chart, Marshall hits the button again, letting the machine tumble for a few seconds before stopping it.

Colt Marshall: On the second pick...Team 8 receives its first member: Benjamin T. Stanton, Jr.!

Jack Lightning (33%) & The Phoenix (39%)</div>

While I didn't expect the reigning champs to be teamed up in this tournament, I didn't expect them to be facing each other in the opening round, either! Both Bao and Lightning drew excellent partners, and this could be the match of the opening round. I think Templeton can carry anyone to a win on his side, but he's facing a two-time TTT champion in Phoenix, who is an accomplished tag wrestler elsewhere. This may sound biased, but I assure you it is not—I think Phoenix and Lightning move on to round two.

Vs.

Master Imoka (31%) & Psycho Sam (28%)</div>

This match features someone on a hot streak (III), a former TTT Champion (Diamond), a resurgent member of the League (Imoka) and a rookie who acts like he can't along on a team (Sam). In this instance, I have to go with the person who has gone on to TTT glory, and say that Diamond and III advance to the semifinals.

Vs.

Thor Hammerskald (41%) & Scott Stevens (29%)</div>

On paper, this seems like an even match-up. However, given the animosity between Stevens and Thor, and Moore/Triumph's inability to win this season, this match could come down to a communication thing. And in that, I think Moore and Triumph have just enough of an edge to sneak into the second round.

Three of these four have limited success in tag tournaments in their League careers. The other? A former TTT champion. That should be enough difference in this match, as Nolan will guide his team to the semifinals.

THE LEAGUE PRESENTS: TAG TEAM TURMOIL V, NIGHT 1</div>

The surreal atmosphere of The League's Virtual Arena, and the 33 large screens showing video feeds of arenas around the world, greet the viewers as the camera fades in to this, the fifth Tag Team Turmoil in League history. After allowing the viewers to get acclimated once again to the slightly off-putting sight, we cut to ringside and our commentary crew, who is one person short at the moment.

Bob Sinclair: Good evening, everyone, and welcome to the first night of Tag Team Turmoil! Bob Sinclair here at ringside with Frankie Garnett; Tori Montgomery will be joining us after the first match of the evening. This is a night that many people have been waiting for, Frankie, especially this season with the random draw mechanic in play!

Frankie Garnett: Anything that brings chaos to something that should be organized is something I can get behind, Bob! Let's get to it!

Stevens is likely asking himself that same question as Thor blasts Stevens with a clothesline, and a pier-six brawl erupts! Both men exchange right hands repeatedly, as the action spills out to ringside. Hammerskald whips Stevens into the barricade, but as Thor charges in, Stevens backdrops him over the barrier, sending Thor into the front row! Stevens tries to use this time to get some distance between he and Thor, but Thor simply charges through the barrier, knocking it down and sending Stevens running. Scorp tries to head beside the stage, but doesn't count of Thor catching up and spearing him from behind...right into the electronic control panel! The last image we see is Stevens being sent into the panel before the picture cuts to static as the signal is lost....

By the time he found out differently, Thor had gotten back in and continued his assault. Anyhow, I have three matches (about six-ten pages each before formatting) that I have to add commentary for, plus a segment for the final round drawing. Not going to give an ETA on show being posted since storms are expected in my area tonight, and a power outage would wreak havoc on my plans. I intend to get started immediately, though, and hope to beat the storms.
