Phantom Stranger Posted July 20, 2012 Author Share Posted July 20, 2012 So, while people are predicting, it occurs to me I should say something about this diary, or a few things, at least. I just got done with what I think we could fairly call an epic in that it took almost as long to emerge and is roughly as long in wordcount as an average instalment of A Song Of Ice And Fire. When you've done something like that, the pressure of expectation on the next project is enormous - and, frankly, I can't handle it, and am chickening out in a flagrant fashion. POW is never going to be TCW. It's different, its styles are different, its roster is different, etc, etc, etc. A good POW diary is consequently nothing like a good TCW diary. This won't run as long - I have a number of predetermined points in game which will put the diary in endgame mode. None of them are *near* by any stretch of the imagination, and this is still likely to run for a longish while, but it won't be another four-year marathon; it's just not a sprint either. Call it a decathlon or something similar. This is also, partly, my trying out a more... comedy-focused approach. There was humour in TCW, usually when Edd Stone was talking, but it was never a primary focus; it won't be the biggest thing here, but it'll be A big thing. Because you guys are great for fast feedback, because I feel the need to develop my range as a writer, and because it's not like you're paying me for this. But... yeah. Expect some CHIKARA-style comic-book arcs, some long-term developments, a lot of jokes, and... well, I may tell some childish jokes in there too.
