PSW Final Altercation IV

- The final show of 2012 (full results below) came to a close, with Madman Boone defeating Greg Black to retain the PSW Championship. A restless crowd filtered out of Pennsylvania Park with mixed reviews of the show. Many fans said that the company has started to become predictable and stale, and this has not gone unnoticed by owner Mitch Naess....

- It had been about a week since the Final Altercation event, and the reviews that came in were not real good. Pro Wrestling Insider called it "recycled and predictable", Pro Wrestling Max said "PSW wanted to mimic DAVE, well they are doing a great job and should be out of business in a few months", and the Pittsburgh Post Gazette said "I went to the event hoping to be entertained, I left wanting my two dollars back. If something doesn't change, PSW will be out of business faster than Big Smack Scott falling off the sober wagon".

Now, I will admit that a few weeks ago, I came on the air and was very critical of their most recent live show, I even went as far as to call them boring and stale. Well, recently the company's owner, Mitch Naess has made a hire that in my opinion should rejuvenate the company and start to make them relevant again. "Well, actually we have been pretty busy...we have opened the Steel City Dojo, a wrestling school based here in Pittsburgh. It will be run by another DAVE alum, Travis Century. The doors open on Friday, January 4th at 7 am....so anyone interested in becoming a professional wrestler should show up then or call 412-555-3PSW for more details on how they can begin their training....We also have purchased the old Gibson Theater and it has been completely renovated to host about 2,500 fans for wrestling events....we will be hosting our two shows per month there....the newly renamed PSW Arena..

"Yes....two....in the past, PSW has only held one show per month, but throughout my many travels, I found that by having two shows per month, you can really build rivalries and expose your fans to more of the roster....so instead of seeing Greg Stone taking on Madman Boone or Johnny Martin each month, you can see Greg Stone taking on Little Bill Lebowski or some other newcomer.....now, the twelve shows our fans are a custom to seeing will still be held each month and be released on DVD, but we are adding a 1 hour show on the second Friday night of each month, called Steel City Showcase. This show will be held at the PSW Arena and then followed by some sort of concert or event...so your ticket will not only get you in to see some of the best wrestling in the Tri-State region, but you will get to see some great concerts as well.....our very first one will be in February, we have booked Painful Procedure to perform...and who knows, they may also be in action that night in the ring....

Well the world didn't end in 2012 like the Mayan's predicted, but the wrestling world was shocked when The Traditionalist Eric Tyler left his long time home, CGC to sort of return home to his roots when he signed to become the head booker with Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling. His presence with the company can only mean that changes are on the horizon for the company, and they did not disappoint. The company has opened its own wrestling school, purchased and renovated an old theater and turned it into their own venue and they have entered working agreements with both the CGC and the USPW. I don't know how these changes will equate to the company becoming more relevant in the industry, but in my opinion, things are looking on the right path.

News & Notes

PSW has announced it's first show of 2013 (Broken Resolutions) will be held on Saturday, January 26th at 8pm. The show will take place at the new PSW Arena. We have learned that the TagTeam and World titles will be on the line, and we will determine who the #1 contenders for the Tag Titles will be as 4 teams will battle it out in a Four Way 'Hardcore Rules' match. Grandmaster Phunk defeated Johnny Martin at Final Altercation IV to earn a show at Madman Boone's World Title and The Deadly Alliance will challenge The Philly Blondes for the Tag Titles.

Greg Black was on with WPGH's Doc Messing earlier this week and he was not too happy with the news that the company has entered into a working agreement with the CGC. Black said "Why do people suck the DeColt family off like they are the First Family of Wrestling....to me, they are nothing more than Stone Family wannabe's. I mean, everyone knows that if you want to be the best...go train with the Stones...I am living proof of that...and I challenge any of the DeColt boys to come down from their golden palace and get in the ring at Broken Resolutions with a real Canadian." None of the DeColt's could be reached for comment, but we have been told by a source close to the family that Black's challenge will not go unanswered.

* The crowd was still hot from the Eric Tyler interview. JD Morgan makes his way down to the ring, followed by the debut of Casey Valentine. Many of the fans got on Valentine's case, but he played it off well. A decent match, both men went back and forth. Morgan looked like he was going to dominate, but Valentine used his speed and quickness to gain control.

The Latino Kings vs The Future is Here vs Dead Rage vs The Atlantic Connection

* Dead Rage entered the ring first to a very vocal crowd, followed by FCW's Latino Kings, who really got into it with some fans in the front row. The Atlantic Connection came down next to a mixed reaction and finally The Future is Here came down to the biggest pop. A decent match that saw everything from chairs to trash cans to a Stop sign was used. Curtis Jenkins was pinned by Hector Gallindo on the outside after a shot with a beer bottle. Dead Bolt was pinned by Matthew Keith after a double DDT onto a folded chair in the middle of the ring and finally Gallindo was pinned by Steven Parker after a Future Shock.

The Future Is Here defeated Dead Rage, The Atlantic Connection and The Latino Kings in 18:26; the order of elimination was The Atlantic Connection first, then Dead Rage, and finally The Latino Kings.. (Grade: D)

*Greg Black comes down to the ring with a mic, he gets into the ring and continues his rant on the DeColt family. He says that he has not seen anything that makes him believe that anyone from the DeColt family is even here. Just then the music for CGC starts to play but no one comes out from the back. Black says that he was right, that not only couldn't they send someone from their precious company to defend their honor, but the DeColt's have no balls. There is a bit of a stir in the crowd behind Black as someone wearing a hoodie jumps the rail and climbs into the ring....he takes down the hood to reveal.....RICKY DeCOLT!!!

*The fans being a "HOLY S***!" Chant as Black turns around and is met by a right hand from DeColt. He tosses Black into the ropes and lands a flying cross body and then continues the assault until Black is able to escape to the floor. A very good match with a hot crowd, mostly cheering for Ricky. Black does eventually get control of the match and eventually is able to get the win with a rollup near the ropes, which he uses for leverage and then escapes from the ring, pointing to his head like he outsmarted everyone....

Greg Black defeated Ricky DeColt in 18:31 by pinfall, illegally using the ropes for leverage.. (Grade: C-)

* Decent match, all four men go back and forth. using the array of weapons scattered both inside and outside the ring. The crowd is into the match because of the history between these two teams. A few near falls, but eventually the champs gain control of the match and get the win via submission.

The Philly Blondes defeated The Deadly Alliance in a Weapons match in 13:54 when Nelson Callum defeated The Wolverine by submission with a Honey Trap. The Philly Blondes make defense number 3 of their PSW Tag Team titles. (Grade: D)

*After the match, The Philly Blondes are celebrating their win in the ring but they are blindsided by two men that ran in from the back.,,,,Dean Waldorf and Marv Statler hit the ring and destroy the tag champs, leaving them out and bloody in the middle of the ring. Waldorf grabs a mic and says that The Ring Generals are back in PSW to regain the Tag Team Titles. They leave the ring after posing with the belts in the ring and being pelted by cups and wrappers and anything the crowd can throw at them.

*A very good match that had some really good in ring action, especially between Acid and Hernandez. Martin began the match as the one in charge, but Hernandez took control after martin missed a leg drop from the second rope. Eventually Acid went back to the style that got him over in DAVE with a lot of high flying, high risk moves off the ropes and onto his competitors.

Acid defeated Mainstream Hernandez and Johnny Martin in 18:18 when Acid defeated Mainstream Hernandez by pinfall with an Acid Rain Bomb. (Grade: D+)

*A pretty good match, both men played to the crowd well and used their spots at the right moment. Many near falls by both men, but eventually Boone was able to get the advantage and get the win.

*After the match, Acid makes his way to the stage and stares down Madman Boone. They exchange words and eventually Acid leaves without incident.

Overall Thoughts : A pretty good show, still plenty of room for improvement but the crowd was happy. The star of the show was a tie between Greg Black and the appearance of Ricky DeColt. Overall Show Grade: D

"We are back, on Between The Ropes on WPGH, The Steel City's Sports Station...I'm Doc Messing....well, PSW's Broken Resolution is in the books and it looks like the hiring of Eric Tyler may have been the shot in the arm that the company needed. First, let me start off by saying that the remodeled Gibson Theater look amazing, and any wresting fan needs to catch a show there. Now, lets get into my thoughts on the matches you did not see on the DVD....

Like I said, the atmosphere was fantastic...I felt like I was walking into that old Bingo Hall in Philly that DaVE used to hold a lot of their shows, almost 1800 rowdy fans trickled into The PSW Arena, still shy of the 2500 capacity, but it was loud enough that you really couldn't tell there was still room for 700 more people. I really like how close the people in the first 10 rows look like they are right on top of the ring, but I especially like that they are close enough to the entryway that they can get into it with the wrestlers. So, like any other company, PSW puts on a couple of pre-show or dark matches.....now for those that are unfamiliar with live wresting shows, these are usually used as tryouts or for matches that did not fit on the main card....so the first match of the night was between Dazzling Dave Diamond and Chris Flynn.....both men are new signings for the company, but Triple-D is the more well known wrestler, having worked for NYCW over the last few years. I don't know much about this Flynn kid, but he looks like he has potential. I was not surprised to see Diamond score the win, and from what I heard the company has signed both men to a contract, so expect to see both men in future matches.

The second dark match was a tag team match between some more new faces.....The Samoan Machine and Rhino Umaga have reunited the Samoan Destruction Inc as they took on PSW National champ, Teddy Powell and Akima Brave. Brave is probably the most well known of the newcomers and looked the best out there of the four men. The question is how will he perform as a singles wrestler, since he made a name for himself as a tag team wrestler in SWF as one half of The Samoan Wildboyz..

And finally, to wrap up the show, let me give the results of our Prediction Contest.....if you have not registered, there is still time to get into the contest. A good match with a good crowd saw Parker control the match but Phunk would use the ropes and a handful of tights to get the win. Grandmaster Phunk defeated Steven Parker in 14:13 with a roll-up and use of the ropes for leverage (Grade: D) </div></blockquote>Overall Thoughts :I was happy with the show as a whole. Using these shorter hour to hour and a half shows will help develop the midcard stories a little and give a main eventer a chance to help a midcarder or lower get better.
