Fox is to be blamed for the lack of chemistry of all these people. I'm pretty sure he talks them into having bad matchs to make his new look awful ! <img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<p>Okay, time for some predatory hiring. We get their best performers and continue to hold shows on the same days. Lets see who they have.</p><p> </p><p>

GSW has Frankie Perez and Remmy Skye, and has yet to use them due to our scheduling. The two who seem to be putting on the best matches are Grandmaster Phunk and Fro Sure. So we make them offers.</p><p> </p><p>

IPW’s best performers seem to be Acid, Fumihiro Ota, and Frantic Ali. Ota can’t do hardcore at all, so we’ll take the risk of leaving him there and hire the other two. They also have Fox, Cougar, and Donnie, but again, none of them get used. But they still have downsides, I’d assume.</p><p> </p><p>

We need to clear some room in the checkbook here, so we get rid of Speedball, Air Attack Weasel, and Al Coleman... ‘s valet, Willow. Not quite equalling the scales there, but still... it’s the thought that counts. We managed to bring our costs down a little, but not enough to matter... I make a note to try to chill with the tag matches involving expensive people.</p><p> </p><p>

When all is said and done, our main event is made of Acid, Phunk, Donnie, Fox, and Mikey.</p><p>

The Uppercard is Toma, Remmy, Cougar, Frankie, and in a surprise showing, Hell’s Bouncer.</p><p>

The midcard is Jordan, CLM, Coleman, Sparrow, Fro, and Ali.</p><p>

The undercard is Little Bill, Kit, Jonnie, and Monkey.</p><p>

For jobbers, we have Barrera, Rivera, Frankie-Boy, and Waylon.</p><p> </p><p>

This was going to be a rough month -- but next month? Next month, we go on the offensive and I show I know what I’m doing.</p><p> </p><p>

I hope.</p><p> </p><p>

Reports from GWS indicate they want to make Fro Sure a focal point of the promotion. Yeah... we’ll see how that works out for them. I’ll just...</p><p> </p><p>

… what do you mean, i never rescheduled Welcome to the Coastal Zone, and it’s tonight???</p><p>

</p><p><strong>

May 2013, Week 1</strong></p><p><strong>

CZCW Welcome to the Coastal Zone</strong></p><p><strong>

Grissom Auditorium</strong></p><p> </p><p>

We open with a Tag Title Ladder match as Fox & Kit retain over The Perez Boys. Two teams with great chemistry, if not a lot of experience, and it’s the closest we’ve been to an old-school Zone match in quite a while. The crowd likes it, and I’m actually pleased. So far. (D+)</p><p> </p><p>

We cool the crowd down a bit with CLM squashing Waylon Walls (E-), and then I come out to rant about how tonight, the Zone undergoes yet another evolution. I’m getting a mixed reaction -- the old-school Zone fans hate me, but the slowly-growing segment of Warehouse-style fans love it. (C-) Al Coleman comes out to ty to shut me up, and I squash him (E+).</p><p> </p><p>

Up next, we introduce... the Warehouse invasion. Not only did we sign Grandmaster Phunk, Fro Sure, Frantic Ali, and Acid... they’re a stable, and they’re here to take over. We get a good reaction from the crowd for this, the same sort of split reaction I got. (D+).</p><p> </p><p>

They’re in action next; Grandmaster Phunk defeats Masked Cougar (D-), while Fro Sure and Frantic Ali squash Notorious (E+). Afterwards, I meet with Acid and Donnie J, setting them up in the main event for a title shot when Mikey comes back (D+).</p><p> </p><p>

Our final two matches of the night are both title matches. First, the Xtreme Title, Hell Monkey vs Matt Sparrow. Sparrow’s upset he loses again, but the two turn out a good match (C-) which hopefully won’t overshadow Acid vs Donnie J... which it does, because Acid and Donnie, for whatever reason, just plain fail at having a decent match. I had Acid win this, but now I’m thinking... WTF happened? (D-)</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Show rating: D</strong></p><p><strong>

Attendance: 1,574 tickets</strong></p><p> </p><p>

I well at Donny, putting the blame on him for that match, while praising Monkey and Sparrow. Sparrow, I'm fairly sure, is starting to think I'm bipolar.</p><p> </p><p>

Next time, on the Coastal Zone: Will we stick to two shows this month? If we do, who do we go after: GSW or IPW? Or will we go crazy and go for three?</p>

<p>Now, I have to decide... do I run two more shows this month to sabotage both other promotions, or.... aw, hell. We’ll do one short show and if it doesn’t work out, we’ll do another... GWS is going Wednesday, week 4, so we’ll probably counterprogram IPW, who are... this Saturday.</p><p> </p><p>

Oh, this is gonna suck... two shows in one week...</p><p> </p><p>

… huh. Mickey Starr has passed away. Pity. Also, L-Ring has opened and is pulling in a diverse group of people. not anything I’m worried about right now.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>May 2013, Week 1. Still.</strong></p><p><strong>

CZCW In Your Face</strong></p><p><strong>

Grissom Auditorium</strong></p><p> </p><p>

We do a nice, simple, semi-short show. Grandmaster Phunk defeats Frankie Perez (D) before The Warehouse Gang come out and gloat about how they’re taking over (D). I come out and, in a show of “Dude, don’t be so upset with my booking” give Sparrow a win over me. Tho he goes a bit crazy and puts me through a pair of tables in the process, which the crowd doesn’t like (E+). Then Donnie J gets a win over Little Bill (D), and we’re into the main events already. I should book shorter shows all the time.</p><p> </p><p>

Fro Sure and Frantic Ali attempt to take the Tag Title away from Fox & Kit. They fail, but we’ve hd another good match and I’m starting to think I won’t fire Fox if he can actually do this tag team thing. It keeps him away from the title and out of my hair (C-). The final match is Mikey James vs Acid for the CZCW Title, and there’s tons of run-ins, both by The Warehouse as well as Donnie and Fox. In the end, Acid gets the win -- since the champion is mostly in ladder matches, I don’t have to worry so much about him trying to do hardcore as much (C-).</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Show rating: C-</strong></p><p><strong>

Attendance: 1,611 tickets</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Wow, second show in a week and attendance went up. Nice. And now a few weeks off...</p><p> </p><p>

Dammit, IPW! We stole some of their best peformers... and they turn out a C+ main event off of Ota vs Cougar. Luckily, the rest of the card sucked... we need to remember to use -everyone- the ‘enemy promotion’ uses when we counterprogam against them.</p><p> </p><p>

AAA declares hostilities between us. Really, Stardust? Okay. Whatever.</p><p> </p><p>

… that could suck.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>May 2013, Week 4</strong></p><p><strong>

CZCW Flipping The Bird</strong></p><p><strong>

Grissom Auditorium</strong></p><p> </p><p>

… dammit, Sparrow, I’m trying to... okay, screw it. He pissed off our announcer. I’m mad at him now.</p><p> </p><p>

Opening Match: Tag Titles. Ladders. Fox & Kit. And … Kid Toma & Jackpot Jordan. Because I need to use them more. It actually doesn’t suck, and the champs retain (D+).</p><p> </p><p>

Up next, a tables match, where I get my win back on Sparrow. It’s also going to be his last match with us; he’s gone in the morning. (E+)</p><p> </p><p>

I throw Frankie Perez into a random match with Mikey (so GWS can’t use Perez tonight). The two threaten to steal the show, and the former champ loses his second straight (C-). Not nearly as good is Fro & Frantic defeating Notorious (D-).</p><p> </p><p>

We get another “This should have been good, why did it suck?” match when Grandmaster Phunk defeats Donnie J... seriously, this should have been far better (D). And we finish the night with a CZCW Title match as Acid defends against Remmy Skye (who was upset I didn’t use him at In Your Face). Five minutes in, the two decide they’re not going to let Perez and James steal the show, and they turn out a great matchup. Could it be I’m finally motivating these chumps? Acid retains, but wow... the druggie is looking good tonight. ©</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Show rating: C-</strong></p><p><strong>

Attendance: 1,769 tickets.</strong></p><p> </p><p>

On the next Coastal Zone: Does Citizen X's plan win him the regional battle, or just wind up costing a lot of money? And who makes a decision that could jeopardize their standing in the Zone?</p>

Well, that was a hell of a month. ACPW is out of business. I’m bracing myself for the month-end financial review. After going from losing twelve grand to losing fifteen grand... and then I added a third show... we lost... only five grand?

… I am a business genius.

All shows from now on will be scheduled for an hour and a half. And our counter-programming appears to have worked -- we won the regional battle for the month.

These warehouse jokers are going to regret setting up shop in my Zone.

PGHW passed to a new owner, and the new guy immediately made offers to some of our guys. I made the announcements public to the locker room: Acid, Mikey James, and Frankie Perez had gotten offers. I made sure not to look in Fox’s direction at all during the meeting. I swear, he thought he was actually going overseas...

GSW and IPW had their shows on the same day this month. So we’d just counterprogram the on show... and if we sucked, then we’d do another later, but we shouldn’t need to, given that we have all their stars.

June 2013, week 2

CZCW Surf Slam

Grissom Auditorium

Annnnd Acid is working elsewhere tonight. Hopefully that won’t be a problem.

We open with someone we’ve been neglecting as Hell Monkey gets to defend his CZCW Xtreme Title against... oh, a bunch of jobbers. Coleman, Barrera, Jordan, Frankie-Boy, and Jonnie. The match is surprisingly decent, what with so much going on that it’s hard to notice when the scrubs mess up. Monkey retains after a fairly short match (D).

Next up, Donnie J defeats Kid Toma. Toma, who I was supposed to be using to teach people how to work Hardcore style. He’s... kinda expensive for that, though, and I haven’t done much with him. Still, it’s working, as Donnie appears to be learning... somewhat. (D-) I come out and berate him afterwards for a bit, just to get some cheap heat (D+).

Random Tag Match Time, as Fro Sure & Frantic Ali face CLM and Bouncer. The Warehouse Invaders get the win here (D-) leading to some dissention between CLM and his bigger employee (C-).

I get a win over Little Bill (D-), and then we spend some time with Phunk and Fro in the ring, talking about Phunk’s upcoming match (D). Which is next, a three-way ladder Contender’s match between Phunk, Cougar, and Skye. It’s a good match, and Phunk gets the win -- let’s face it, he’s got the most momentum out of all our non-champions, so he makes sense. (C-)

And in our main event... wait, I booked this as the main event? Oh, well. Tag Titles on the line, Fox Mask & Kit vs the reunited Cali Dragons (Mikey James and Frankie Perez), and it... well, it doesn’t -suck-, but it’s... half-decent? The champs retain in a hard-fought match, bu the crowd apparently couldn’t care less. (D)

Show rating: D+

Tickets sold: 1,786

Hrm. To put on another show this month, or not... how did the competition do? GWS gets a D+ off of American Elemental defeating Hard-1, and IPW getsa C- off of... Rassum-frassum... Ota defeating Steve Parker, with Acid appearing for them in the sub-main. He picked them over us? Our champion picked a second-rate upstart indy to us? Ohhhh, that does not abide...

On the next Coastal Zone: Someone is given their second strike. Someone else is out. And yet another is on thin ice. Are things looking up for the Zone, only for the roster to be brought low?

Kid Toma and Masked Cougar were becoming friends. Well, damn, now I can’t fire Toma without Cougar getting mad at me. Not that I was planning on it... but it did cross my mind once or twice.

And we... made a profit last month??? Not enough to make up for May’s loss... but, well, a profit. Hrm. Let’s see if we can keep that up, then give everyone a raise. Except Fox.

Since it seems to be working, we continue with our counterprogramming. Battle at the Beach is now scheduled opposite IPW’s XxXplosion. Meanwhile, we create CZCW West Coast Tradition for the same day as GSW’s (... oh, GunShot Wound, I get it, it’s ER terminology, and it’s more ‘street’.) Payback’s A Bitch. Well, they’re not getting payback on us...

July 2013, Week 1

CZCW Battle at the Beach

Grissom Auditorium

Before the show, Lebowski gets into an arguement with a fan and nearly hits him. I rip the little guy new one. I don’t care about backstage; the boys will be boys. But getting into it with a fan? That’s not kosher. Not at all. And he’s far from secure in his employment. He does it again, he’s gone. The little punk doesn’t see what he did wrong...

We open the show with a CZCW Title match; Tables, not Ladders tonight, as Acid faces his stablemate Grandmaster Phunk. The two have a good match that ends with Phunk getting the win and the title moves to someone who -didn’t- work a different company’s show (D+). I spend some time trying to convince Hell’s Bouncer to be my bodyguard (C ), and then team with him and CLM against Donnie J and Notorious. Notorious stinks up the join, and Bouncers the win by pinning Donnie (E).

We get a tag match with the Perez Boys losing to Frantic Ali and Fro Sure, who’re calling themselves the Warehouse Brothers. I suspect that they aren’t actually brothers tho. Regardless, they turn out a good match (D+). Masked Cougar gets a win over Kid Toma in a decent bout (D), and then our main event for the #1 contendership between Mikey James and Fox Mask. James wins, because this is as close to the title as I’ll let Fox get, but it’s still a good enough main event that I feel good about putting him there. Don’t get me wrong, Fox is good, just nowhere near as good as everyone thinks he is (C-).

Show rating: D+

Tickets sold: 2,000

Hey, a sellout, nice to see that. Maybe not the guys’ll admit that this new, more hardcore style of flying and fighting is actually a legit choice of styles.

IPW managed to get a D+ as well, thanks to freakin’ Ota and Brett Starr. If we don’t win the regional battle this month, we’re taking Ota. If we’re making profit, I can afford a couple grand more on salaries. But before I can, hey, we’ve got another show to put on!

July 2013, week 2

CZCW West Coast Tradition

Grissom Auditorium

For the second show in a row, Hell Monkey is away in Japan. Yeah... we may have to have him drop the title to someone who’ll be here more often. Maybe... me.

We open with CLM and Bouncer defeating The Perez Boys. It’s a decent opener (D), followed by CLM talking to a silent Bouncer and trying to convince him not to be my bodyguard (C )ou can probably guess how this turns out... the champs retain, and it’s a decent enough match, but for what I’m paying these guys... (D).

We get another random tag match as The Warehouse Brothers defeat Remmy Skye & Jackpot Jordan in yet another decent match, and I’m sensing a theme going on here (D). We break that theme with Frankie-Boy getting a surprise win over Al Coleman, which the crowd didn’t care for (for good reason) (E).

I spend some more time trying to convince the silent Hell’s Bouncer to bodyguard me instead of CLM (C ). Then I go out and face Acid in... yet another decent match. This one, I win. Acid’s not happy, but hey, I’m the boss, right? (D).

Finally, in our main event, Phunk defends against James. It’s... not that bad, not as bad as it could have been, but we were hoping for better. Phunk retains, and I’m hoping this is just a blip and he can pull off something better (C-).

Show rating: D+

Tickets sold: 2,000

Hey, another sellout. The locker room is starting to think maybe I’m onto something here. GSW gets a D, meaning we’ve definately done better than them.

Next time, on the Coastal Zone: Someone is gone! Someone gets the better of us! And someone installed a patch that drastically changes the game!

Al Coleman is mad at me and won’t resign his contract. So I cut him right away. Pity, I liked his attitude, he just refused to lose once in a while.

We got #3 of 4 in the regional battle. Time to make a move for Ota... and figure out what to do about AAA...

GWS fakes us out! While we’re waiting to see when they hold their show this month, they hold it on the very first day! And they pull out a C- off of twin C main events, using Fro Sure, Frankie Perez, Phunk, and Matt Keith! And we... made a crap-ton of money last month. Looks like the sponsorship money is coming in fast an furious suddenly. It’s almost as if someone changed the world somehow... (Yes, this is the 12/22 patch in effect... lots more money, almost makes things too easy... but gives me a few more options for doing things...)

We sign Fumihiro Ota anyways, and then declare war on IPW and GSW. Well, why not? Now we don’t have to worry so much about counterprogramming.

August 2013, Week 4

CZCW Wave Of Fury

Grissom Auditorium

Little Bill Lebowski started a fight with Waylon Walls. Now, normally, I’d say “The boys will be boys.” But this is Lebowski’s fourth problem since I hired him, and that’s enough. He’s gone.

Which, I admit, minorly changes my plans for the night.

We open with a hardcore CZCW Title match as Phunk retains over Donnie J. We go a bit long for Donnie, and the result is just a decent match... but I suspected as much, which is why this went on first. (D) We follow that with yet another chapter of CLM convincing Bouncer to stay with him, stating that he gets more chicks than he would if he worked for me (C ). CLM then has a match with Kit, which Kit wins, but ye gods, this was... bad (E-).

Xtreme Title time, as I get in the ring with Hell Monkey, who seems okay with my reasoning of “I know I’m not going to go work for someone in Japan” and drops the title to me... and gives me a fairly good match in the process (D+). I then go backstage and try to convince Bouncer to work for me, telling him how I have more power around here than CLM. First you get the power, -then- you get the women, etc, etc, etc. ©

The Warehouse Boys defeat Jackpot Jordan and Frankie-Boy Fernandez, and the crowd seems to be warming to Frankie-Boy a little. Perhaps I’m a bit surprised, but this is actually a decent matchup -- Frankie-Boy and Jordan may still be saved (D).

We move into our semi-mains, first with Fox Mask showing his selling skills by losing to Hell’s Bouncer... and I guess I scheduled this one a bit long as well, because the last few minutes were horrid and dragged the whole thing down (E+). Finally, the main event, a triple-threat #1 Contenders ladder match that sees Skye and Cougar lose to the debuting Fumihiro Ota. Match of the night, but we expected that (C-).

Show rating: D+

Tickets sold: 2,000

Well, this is going to be a bit of a downer for the month...

IPW puts on a hell of a show, as apparently I misunderstood how being ‘at war’ works. So I sent out new contracts to pretty much everyone involved. Except Acid, who’s throwing a fit I had him lose twice. Whiny little... Eh. Well, we also pick up new Coastal Resort graduate Simon Waves. I think he and Wells will become our new jobber tag-team...

On the next Coastal Zone: War. Huh. What is it good for? Apparently, absolutely nothing...

…. awwww, crud. We’ve got more competition, as Findlay O’Farraday has opened up Pro Wrestling MAX. The man’s twenty-eight and opening his own promotion. Yeesh.

And yeap, we finish dead last in the regional battle. This needs to turn around soon. All in all, not a good month... Although we now have more money than we started the year with. So, y’know, half-empty, half-full, whatever, it’s still beer.

GSW pulls the same trick they did last month, running the first day of the month without giving us a chance to go against them. Fro and Phunk are involved in the two big matches, but neither does a really good job for some reason, keeping GSW to a D+. We have a chance.

… Little Bill Lebowski released a freakin’ shoot interview about us! I don’t know what surprises me more, that he did it... or that he says he loved working with us and that Fox was one of his good friends. That was... completely unexpected. I guess he knows how not to get re-hired.

September 2013, Week 2

CZCW Reach For The Sky

Grissom Auditorium

We open with Fox and Kit retaining the tag titles over Donnie J and Kid Toma. The match is pretty good, even though the crowd is still warming up to Kit after all this time (D+). We follow that with a triple-threat tag match, as Notorious and the new team of Wall of Waves (which is, naturally, Waylon Walls and Simon Waves) fall to the Perez Boys, in what we knew would be a bad match (E+).

We have yet another “CLM tries to convince Hell’s Bouncer to stay with him” segment (D+), followed by CLM challenging me for the CZCW Xtreme Title. The match... isn’t as good as I’d hoped, mainly due to the fan’s not liking Hell’s Bouncer getting in the ring and knocking over the ladder when CLM was about to get the title, letting me win (D-). Afterwards, I talk up how the big man is now my bodyguard, and how everyone will need to be on notice (C ).

In a random match, Hell Monkey defeats Jackpot Jordan in a good showing (D+). We throw out our sub-main of a CZCW Title match, Grandmaster Phunk vs Fumihiro Ota. There’s a lot of momentum riding behind Ota, and sometimes that’s all it takes, as we have a new CZCW Champion and these two have great chemistry that let them surpass what I was expecting from them (C-).

Finally, in the main event, Acid vs Mikey James for the #1 Contendership. Acid gets the win as we try to convince him to like us enough to renegotiate his contract, and it’s another good match to end the show (C-).

Show rating: C-

Tickets sold: 2,000

IPW... pulls off a freakin’ C???? Two C matches to end the show, one involving Frantic Ali and one involving Masked Cougar???? What part of “We’re at war” do these people not get???

Next time, on the Coastal Zone: Are GSW and IPW working together against us? Who puts on a surprise match of the night? And who is joining the Zone?

But I do hope that as this is hardcore Hell Monkey is making use of a tire on the end of a rope as a weapon.

No -- there was a concussion incident in training and the rope-tire has been banned. However, to go along with our slightly increased comedic aspect, he does scatter some banana peels around the ring.

His request to fling 'faux poo' was denied when we lowered our Risque level.

We hold a show the first day of the month, just to counter GSW in case they do the same thing again. Someone tells me I should hold it in the Midwest... but not quite yet.

October 2013, Week 1

CZCW Hardcore Halloween

Grissom Auditorium

Your opening match is Donnie J defeating Hell Monkey, and this match sets the bar very high for the night; it could have easily main evented any of our previous shows. Maybe I should get a title involved with these two. Just... not mine. (C-).

We rest the crowd a bit with Mikey James defeat Wall of Waves in a handicap match... which oddly doesn’t suck (D), and then cut to backstage, where Phunk and Fro are debating the merits of getting involved in each other’s matches... and decide against it (C-).

The Warehouse Brothers defeat the Perez Boys in an okay matchup that I had higher hopes for (D), and follow that up with me and Bouncer defeating CLM and his old partner, Frankie-Boy. Annnnnnd the match sucks (E+), but we get a good segment with me and Bouncer afterwards, talking about how we’ll be unstoppable (C ).

I put Grandmaster Phunk and Kid Toma into a match for what should be some hard-hitting action... and the match sucks almost as much as mine did, with Phunk getting the win (E+). I wonder what happened there. Then, a tag title match as Fox & Kit defend against Remmy and Cougar. I was really expecting better from them, but after two bad matches in a row, maybe we can blame the crowd. The champs retain, and I ponder if they’re getting stale (D+).

Finally, in the main event, Fumihito Ota vs Acid for the CZCW Title, and... I don’t know what happened. Ota... sucked tonight. He won, but this match was... gah. (D).

Show rating: D+

Tickets sold: 2,000

Ah, there’s the problem. Ota broke his fingers during the match. I guess I can’t complain too much about his performance then.

GSW and IPW appear to be working together against us, scheduling shows on back-to-back days, thinking even we wouldn’t try to run two shows on back-to-back days to go against them. Well... the joke’s on them, ‘cause we will!

Yeap, another three-show month. Hey, it worked last time.

October 2013, Week 2

CZCW Rest In Pieces

Grissom Auditorium

Not content with mentoring CLM, Donnie J has taken newcomer Simon Waves under his wing. Well, good for him. I guess.

We open the show with me defeating Frankie Perez to retain the Xtreme Title. Good little match, if I say so myself, but Frankie really doesn’t like putting me over here (D+). After that, we kill the crowd with Notorious over Wall of Waves. Nobody cares. I’m fairly sure I heard a “We don’t gotta pee yet” chant from the crowd. (F).

We wake them up with Hell’s Bouncer defeating Hell Monkey (D), followed by me and Bouncer declaring that from now on, if anybody wants an Xtreme Title match, they have to get through Bouncer first (C ).

CLM and The Warehouse Brothers fall to Donnie, Remmy, and Cougar in one of my patented “Let them think there’s hope for the old Zone to return” matches (D). Then, Jackpot Jordan defeats Kid Toma in a fairly crappy match (E+).

For main events, Fox & Kit retain over Acid and Phunk in an okay match (D+), followed by Ota retaining the CZCW Title over Mikey James in a good little bout that keeps me from claiming the match of the night (C-).

Show rating: C-

Tickets sold: 2,000

We decide to hire on one of PSW’s best performers, one Matthew Keith. What the heck, we can afford it, and the kid’s amazing. We won’t hear back in time to put him on the next show, but so what?

Phunk broke his fingers during the show -- we’ll have to leave him off the next show. No big deal. Turns out he was recreating the spot where Ota broke his fingers, trying to show him how to do it the right way. And failed.

October 2013, Week 2 (still)

CZCW Fear Of The Dark

Grissom Auditorium

We open with Remmy Skye defeating Donnie J in a somewhat-poor matchup. I had planned on pushing Skye a bit, but if this is the kind of match he’s going to turn out... (D-) Afterwards, the Warehouse Brothers get to defeat Wall of Waves, and it’s better than last night’s showing (E+).

CLM and Jackpot Jordan defeat Notorious, and it’s... about as good (E+). We kick things up a notch as the Perez Boys go after Fox & Kit. They fail to win the titles, but they turn in the match of the night so far (D+).

We continue the tag-team theme of the night as I team with Hell Monkey to defeat Toma and Frankie-Boy. What can I say, Bouncer was off in FCW tonight. (D-)

To wrap up the night, first we have Acid defeat Mikey James in another good match (D+), followed by Ota vs Cougar for the CZCW Title. Good match, but to be honest, we had been hoping for better from Ota, and he doesn’t seem to be giving it to us (C-).

Show rating: D+

Tickets sold: 2,000

… IPW apparently didn’t hold their show last night... Could we be wearing them out?

Matt Keith signed on happily, giving us what would hopefully be another weapon in our arsenal to take over the country... if we could just solidify our hold on the Southwest first. We were doing okay against the Warehousers, but AAA was still beating us... no, wait, we beat AAA this month... who beat us...

PWMAX????

On the next Coastal Zone: A good general prefers to never fight a war on two fronts. So what does it say about us that we're opening a third? Will Matt Keith impress on his debut? Will we start winning regional battles? Is IPW in trouble? Will I ever go back to starting these posts with something witty and/or funny?

… okay, that does it. War with PWMAX, too. I’ve shown we can do three shows a month without problems, so... why not?

November 2013, week 2

CZCW Thankskilling

Grissom Auditorium

Tonight’s show opens with Donnie J and Mikey James facing myself and Hell’s Bouncer in a tables match. I’m in a good mood and give the other team the win tonight after a good match (D+), and then berate Hell’s Bouncer for costing us the win... before I realize he’s rather large and glaring at me, at which point I give him a raise (C ).

We kill some time with Jackpot over Frantic and Jonnie (D-), then a Tag Title defense of Fox & Kit vs Going Coastal. The champs retain, and this is one of the worse matches they’ve had lately (D). Fox and Kit then try to do the same “Small guy talks up his big, menacing partner” thing we’ve been doing with Bouncer, and it works almost as well (C-).

We introduce Matthew Keith with a win over Masked Cougar, and Keith... fails to impress (D). Kid Toma gets a rare win over Gransmaster Phunk, and it’s even worse (D-).

We try to spice things up with a three-way (hurr hurr), Frankie Perez defeating Acid and Skye. It’s... okay. (D+). And finally, a CZCW Title match between Fumihiro Ota and Fro Sure. Which is... about the same, with Fro getting tired towards the end of a relativly short matchup before losing (D+).

Show rating: D+

Tickets sold: 2,000

Well, that could have gone better. I had been considering pushing Keith into the main event as fast as I could, but he didn’t perform as well as I thought he would...

GSW, deprived of their best workers, pull a D. My plan continues to work flawlessly. If we can’t do better, we’ll make the others do worse.

November 2013, week 2. Still.

CZCW Max (... because we’re at war with PWMAX. Geddit?)

Grissom Auditorium

We start with an Xtreme Title Ladder match, me against Kit. We’re testing something. The match itself is... underwhelming; the guy’s not ready for the solo spotlight yet. We try to compensate by having the ending involve Fox Mask come out to help his partner, only to get ambushed by Hell’s Bouncer, but the crowd’s still not happy (D-) … until Kit and Hell’s Bouncer wind up facing off in the middle in the ring, ready to go at it before Fox and I seperate the two of them. The crowd eats this up like a fat man at a buffet (C+!).

After that, any match will be a letdown, so we have Going Coastal beat Notorious (E). We get a bit better with Cougar beating Frantic (D), Fro Sure trying to cut a promo (D), and then Remmy defeating Fro (D-). We then wrap up the suck with Toma and Jackpot defeating Wall of Waves (E).

To apologize for that, we do another triple threat match: Acid, Donnie J, and Mikey James. Acid wins this one, and it’s better than anything else on the show so far (D+). To cap off the night, Ota vs Frankie Perez, CZCW Title Ladder Match. It’s... again, good, but not as good as I’ve been expecting from the champ, and I think I need to find someone to transition the title onto far sooner than I was ready to (D+).

Show rating: D+

Tickets sold: 2,000

PWMAX gets a C- with help from Matt Sparrow and Air Attack Weasel. That... was going to stick in my craw, as they say down south. I’d get one more shot to put on a heck of a show this month... I was going to need it.

Next time, on the Coastal Zone: Yeah, we're not doing an entire month in each post. But: A surprise retirement rocks the wrestling world; will Citizen X abandon the Zone for bigger pastures? And will our final show of the month not suck?

Sam Strong has retired, and USPW’s ownership is currently in limbo. While they’ve fallen a little, they’re still the third-largest company in the world... and probably a better fit for my booking style. But, no, I’m here to prove something.

November 2013, week 3

CZCW Showdown at Sundown

Grissom Auditorium

Opening match: Kid Toma over Remmy Skye. I’m trying to salvage Toma... but it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to. Time to cut my losses there? (D-).

Kit and Hell’s Bouncer are out and in each other’s face again (C+), and we announce a table’s match... right now! The result is... not good... with Kit eating table (E). Kit then no-sells the table and gets back in Bouncer’s face, which the crowd... despite the horrid match that just took place... are still nutso for (C+).

Triple-threat tag-team match time, with The Cali Dragons defeating Going Coastal and The Warehouse Brothers... and it’s a fairly decent match. Color me surprised (D+). We try to get a good match with Masked Cougar defeating Grandmaster Phunk, but... well, we don’t, and I’m not sure why (E+). After that is Designated Bathroom Break time, as Donnie J handily beats Simon Waves... and it doesn’t suck? (D-).

To tie off the night, we do a Triple Threat Xtreme Ladder Match with me, Fox, and Matthew Keith. I’m willing to take a risk on Keith given how everyone talks about him, and we put the title on him at the end of it all... and the crowd is happy, as this is the match of the night so far (C-). Finally, it’s Ota vs Acid for the CZCW Title, and once more Ota retains... but someone woke these two boys up, as they did all they could to surpass the triple-threat match and put on the best match the Zone has seen all year (C ). Ota may just keep his title for a while longer...

Show rating: C-

Tickets sold: 2,000

IPW... also pulls a C-, off of a C+ Steven Parker / Bret Starr match. Parker was also part of their two decent angles of the night. We... may need to steal him, too.

USPW is taken over by... Dean “The Machine” Daniels? I... can honestly say I was not expecting that. How’d Dean save up the cash for that kind of purchase? Maybe I should have tried to trade up... take the parts of the Zone that’re working and leave the rest behind to languish in mediocrity.

We took second in the regional battle; IPW beat us, but we handily beat PWMAX, AAA, and GSW. With a little work, we could probably beat IPW this month, too. It was going to be a three-show December, and we planned on ending the year with a bang.

On the next Coastal Zone: With one month left in the year, a major name leaves the Zone! Will we win the regional battle, or have to go poaching more talent? The countdown to Year In Review is on!

December 2013, Week 1

CZCW Decembrawl

Grissom Auditorium

We open with a six-man match as Fro Sure, Frantic Ali and Grandmaster Phunk face Mikey James, Frankie Perez, and Jonnie Perez. It’s a good match, better than I expected, and the Warehouse Gang gets to put this one in the win column by pinning Jonnie (D+).

Remmy and Cougar come out, announced as a team: The Zone Originals. They squash Wall of Waves, and the crowd... isn’t fond of it. I think I’m training them to not be as fond of ‘Zone Nostalgia’ as the originals here would like them to be (E+). Donnie J gets a win over Fox, and Fox... well, I think I’m getting to Fox, because his mind really wasn’t here tonight (D-). Hell’s Bouncer squashes Miguel Rivera, and it’s... meh (E). Fox Mask tries to talk some encouragement into Kit (D+), who then goes on to lose to Kid Toma (E+).

We have an Xtreme Title match as new champion Matt Keith defends against a former champion, Hell Monkey. It’s a good little match, and Keith retains... and loosk like he belongs here in the process (C-). Finally, We get an Ota/Acid rematch to see if they can recreate the last show’s main event. They... don’t. it’s still good, just not as good as their last meeting. Ota retains, as I continue looking for a perfect main event (C-).

Show rating: C-

Tickets sold: 2,000

Competing Show: GSW (D)

It looked like we’d be losing one of our bigger names, as TCW had come calling for Mikey James. We couldn’t compete with that kind of budget. And he’d be gone before our next scheduled show, so that six-man loss would be his final match with us.

December 2013, week 4

CZCW Christmas Cage Chaos

Grissom Auditorium

We repeat last show’s opener, with Donnie J in place of Mikey James. Thus, we can prove now that Mikey James > Donnie J (D). Hell Monkey defeats Frankie-Boy (E+), Toma defeats CLM (E), the Zone Originals defeat Notorious (D-... better than I was expecting there), and Bouner beats Jackpot (E).

Yeah, pretty underwhelming show. We follow it up with me talking up Bouncer and how he’ll be watching my back in my match (C ), and then I go on to defeat Acid in... well, -I- though it was a good match at the time, but watching the tape... well, I’m a bit ashamed of myself (D-). Finally, CZC Title, Ota vs Fox. Yeah, like I’m gonna give Fox the win. Decent match, not good, Ota retains, and this show... well, it’s a thing that happened (D+).

Show rating: D+

Tickets sold: 2,000

Opposing show: PWMAX (C-)

Hrm. We forgot to do a cage match. Oh, well.

Despite a good show, PWMAX appeared to be in trouble, firing no less than eight workers; none of them CZCW workers.

December 2013, week 4, still

CZCW Year In Review

Grissom Auditorium

No angles tonight, all matches. Fox & Kit lose their tag titles to the Zone Originals; the champs were both out of it, but we still got a fairly good match, all things considered (C-). Going coastal defeat the team of Fro Sure and Kid Toma, who didn’t work well together (D-). Matt Keith defended the Xtreme Title in a ladder match against Frantic Ali, and did okay for himself (D+). Hell’s Bouncer fell in a handicap match ot Hell Monkey and Jackpot Jordan (D-).

We had a four-way match to crown the first #1 Contender of next year, between myself, Grandmaster Phunk, Donnie J, and Acid; all three were upset that I booked myself to win, and I’m fairly sure they sandbagged the match because of it (D). And in the main event, Ota defended against Frankie Perez and put on a perfectly reasonable matchup to retain gong into the new year (C-).

Show rating: C-

Tickets sold: 2,000

Opposing show: IPW (C!!!)

Number Four in the regional battle, out of five. Dammit, IPW... Steven Parker and Bart Starr were going to be the death of me. So... guess who we’re offering new contracts to?

On the next Coastal Zone: Year In Review 2013! Who put on the best matches? How'd we do money-wise? And is this the first time we've ever seen the Promotion of the Year award go to a company that just recently fell in size to Cult?

So let me get this straight....

Card of the Year, Match of the Year, Company of the Year, Wrestler of the Year...and still NOTBPW falls to Cult.

The heck?

I know, right? And they'd just had a string of B+ shows. The only thing I can think of is they must've lost a national battle with someone, enough months in a row that it knocked them down.

------------

Plans for the year: We made an average of four grand a month. So, we can spend an average o an extra grand a show with no problems. Every show will feature live local bands and local celebrities. IPW and GSW are hip-hop? We’ll go metal.

We hire Steven Parker and Bret Starr. For those wanting a roster update:

Main Eventers: Acid, Ota, Fox, Cougar, Donnie

Upper: Keith, Skye, Phunk, Parker, Me

Midcard: Toma, Jordan, Starr, Bouncer, Ali, CLM, Fro Sure

Lower: Jonnie Perez, Kit, Frankie-Boy, Monkey

Jobbers: Barrera & Rivera, Wells & Waves

Apparently, the ‘War’ thing was working now, as Starr and Parker left IPW. Good. One less thing to keep track of.

January 2014, week 2

CZCW Revolution

Grissom Auditorium

Phunk did something to Ota’s cell phone. Don’t know what, but they nearly had it out in the locker room. I’d fire Phunk, but a) that means he’d be available for the opposition and b) I gave other guys three strikes, and this is strike one.

We open with me and Bouncer challenging the tag champs to a match (C ) annnnd then losing, but it’s a good opener (D+). Acid and Kid Toma defeat Fox & Kit (E+), and then the Warehosue Boys defeat The Perez Brothers (D). Hollywood Bret Starr debuts in a loss to Hell Monkey that comes off very well (C-), and then Donnie J defeats Jackpot Jordan (D-).

Matt Keith retains the Xtreme Title over Grandmaster Phunk.. the two have chemistry, which is good, but somehow makes me think that this could have been a bad match otherwise (D+). Steven Parker comes out to challenge Ota (C-), and then fails in his attempt to take the CZCW Title from him (C-). The two have no chemistry at all... which makes me realize that Parker will -not- be the one to take the title off Ota. Back to the drawing board... oh, and apparently, Ota broke Parker’s nose during one bad ladder spot. Joy.

Show rating: C-

Tickets sold: 2,000

Opposing show: PWMax Exit Wound (C-)

We get in a minor bidding war with IPW as they try to tempt Jonnie Perez and Frankie-Boy Fernandez away from us. They apparently didn’t realize that money was not an issue for us right now, and a few hundred a month was no problem, even for little-used jobber-types.

January 2014, Week 2. Still.

CZCW Trauma Center

Grissom Auditorium

Bret Starr is off to a rip-roaring start. First he complains about losing to Hell Monkey, now he’s spreading rumors about Hell’s Bouncer. I tell him to knock it off, but in the back of my head I’m thinking... if he didn’t work so well for the enemy, I’d cut him loose right this second. But maybe I can get some good performances out of him.

We open with the Tag Champs facing each other to see who gets a CZCW Title Shot tonight. Cougar and Skye turn out to have great chemistry working against each other, but it’s still not as good a match as I was expecting from them. Cougar gets the win (D).

The Warehouse Brothers squash Notorious, and we’ve got to find something better for these guys to do; everyone involved seemed to be having an off night (E+). Fox gets to Adam West a bit while Kit looks dangerous enough to back him up (D+), and then the pair lose in a triple-threat match with Going Coastal and The Perez Boys; The Perez Boys get the win, but again, everyone seemed off tonight (E+).

We have a CZCW Xtreme Title match with Matthew Keith losing the title to Hollywood Bret Starr; I have plans for Keith and needed to get the belt off him, needed to sooth Starr’s ego, and this seemed the best way to do both. But due to a total lack of chemistry... well, it doesn’t make my decision look good (D). Next, I defeat Grandmaster Phunk again, and again it’s not a good match... Phunk, I’m seriously considering letting go (E+). I then talk up the massive Hell’s Bouncer for a bit (C ) before he dominates Wall of Waves in a handicap match whiiiiiich sucks (E-).

We do a triple-threat match between Acid, Donnie J, and Parker; Parker still has a broken nose, so we try to keep him out of things as much as we can, but the crowd apparently hates those triple-threat matches where one guy gets thrown outside the ring and the other two fight for a while. Acid gets the win here, but I don’t think any of these guys ‘won’ with this match (D-). Finally, in the main event, Cougar vs Ota, Cougar is tired from his match earlier but I still go ahead with the planned changing of the guard and put the belt on him... and this may be our worst main event in quite a while, barely rising to the level of the opener (D).

Show rating: D

Tickets sold: 2,000

Opposing show: GSW Pushing The Limits (D+)

Okay, that show sucked an egg. But, we have plans, and hopefully after those plans are done we’ll have much better shows. Call it a realignment.

Next time, on the Coastal Zone: We try to close out January with a bang, IPW launches a surprise attack, GSW mobilizes its checkbook, and is political trouble brewing backstage between two Zone main eventers?

January 2014, Week 4

CZCW Resolute

Grissom Auditorium

We open with a Tag Title match, the Zone Originals defending against The Warehouse Brothers. We get a good match out of this one, but the crowd is a little taken aback when Acid runs in and prevents Cougar from retriving the belts; he’s got a CZCW Title match tonight and is playing head games. Ali gets the belts, and we have new champions... again. All part of my plan. (D+).

I team with Kid Toma for a quick squash of Notorious (E+). Grandmster Phunk is backstage talking trash about Fox and Kit, only to discover Kit is standing right behind him, glaring down at him (D). This leads to a tag match, with Fox & Kit defeating Phunk & Ota; both teams had great chemistry, but the crowd is really starting to hate the Adam Westing that I’ve got Fox doing. Time for the next phase of that plan. (D+).

Bret Starr gets a ladder, a mic, and five minutes of unscripted promo time to talk about himself, the Xtreme Title, and his challenger tonight, Jackpot Jordan. He does pretty well, all things considered; the kid’s probably our best talker right now (C-). He retains his title easily, as Jackpot’s not really a threat at this point, so the match suffers a bit (D-). Hell Monkey tries to defeat Donnie J and, after a valiant effort, loses (D). I talk up Hell’s Bouncer before his handicap match (C ), and then he defeats Going Coastal in another squash (E+).

We get a random tag match at The Perez Boys fall to Matt Keith and Steven Parker. The former two-time PSW tag champs are calling themselves Zone Future, and have enough experience working together that the match is pretty good for a thrown-together thing (D+). Then, we end the night with Cougar vs Acid for the CZCW Title. The mind games weren’t enough, or Cougar just doubled his resolve to beat Acid, but we have another case of “These two have great chemistry, so why isn’t this match better?” (C-).

Show rating: C-

Tickets sold: 2,000

Opposing show: IPW Defiance (D)

We were #3 out of 5 this month; we beat out IPW and GSW, but were still playing third-fiddle to AAA and PWMAX.

…. IPW psyched us out with a surprise first-day-of-the-month show, giving them access to our shared workers. IPW Absolute Power got a C-, off of a sub-main that saw Acid and Cougar team, and a main event with Ota defeating Donnie J. Personally, I’d’ve had someone beat Ota so they could have their title defended every month, but that’s just me.

A three-way bidding war errupts for Frantic Ali. We win. GWS tries to tempt Miguel Riverra away; We counter-offer. They go after Jackpot next. We counter-offer again. Waylon Walls. Counter-offer. Carlos Barerra. Counter-offer. Not that we have huge plans for them, but it’s the principle of the thing. If they were trying to drive our prices up, they didn’t realize what our finances were like.

PWMAX declares hostilities against GSW and IPW. The Southwest is now the focal point of a lot of bad blood in the wrestling world -- and AAA, of course, just stays above it all, claiming that they’re from out of town.

Donnie J has taken another protege, Jonnie Perez. The man’s collecting them, it seems.

February 2014, week 2

CZCW Homecoming

Grissom Auditorium

We open with Matthew Keith defeating Acid in a match that sets the bar high for the rest of the night (C-). Then we lower the bar with a four-way match, Donnie J vs CLM, Jonnie, and Waves. Yeah, against his three proteges. It sucks, but it gives him something to do (E+). I defeat Remmy Skye (D-), and then Grandmaster Phunk comes out to run down Starr. Starr responds, first winning on the mic (C-) and then in the ring (D).

Frankie Perez gets a win over Hell’s Bouncer (D-), and the Warehouse Brothers retain the Tag Titles over Jackpot and Toma (D+). Kinda surprised that match didn’t suck. What does surprise me is how much the next match sucks: Fox over Ota. If I had known... (D-). And we finish off the night with Masked Cougar retaining over Steve Parker. i expected more from Steve, but perhaps he’s just not known enough around here for his momentum to matter much (C-).

Show rating: D+

tickets sold: 2,000

Opposing show: GSW Exile (D+)

On the next Coastal Zone: GSW continues to try to steal our workers; a piece of training equipment may be haunted; and February ends on a down-note.
