It's another hot and humid late June night in South Philly...the Viking Hall is packed for another sold out Eastern Championship Wrestling show. We are nearing the end of tonight's main event. ECW Champion Shane Douglas and announcer Joey Styles watch on from the Eagles Nest as a battered and bloodied Tommy Cairo is climbing to his feet outside the ring. The crowd serenades him with chants of, "You can't wrestle", while 'Hawaiian Shirt Guy' flips him off from the front row. Cairo drags himself back into the ring, only to be met with a vicious chairshot to the head by ECW fan favorite Sandman. Sandman covers him for the win. Post match, the Sandman cracks open a Budwieser and leads the fans in a popular refrain...

Mikey Whipwreck vs Ray Odyssey (Tv Title)

Poor Mikey... hopefully he'll get a few hits in.

The Sandman, Jimmy Snuka & Tommy Dreamer vs Jason & Phi Delta Slam

The obvious pick

Sabu vs Pitbull #2

Love myself some Pitbull #2, but for me, Sabu comes out the victor

Cactus Jack vs Stevie Richards

The Funk Brothers vs The Public Enemy (Tag Titles)

The Public Enemy are the top tag team in ECW, so I don't see them losing.

Mikey Whipwreck vs Ray Odyssey (Tv Title)

Upset coming i can smell it in the air

The Sandman, Jimmy Snuka & Tommy Dreamer vs Jason & Phi Delta Slam

Come on now how can anyone believe this goes the other way

Sabu vs Pitbull #2

Second best match on the card IMO but Sabu gets the win as he is the singles star in this match

Cactus Jack vs Stevie Richards

Best match on the card Cactus is the bigger card and ive already predicted one upset cant have two

The Funk Brothers vs The Public Enemy (Tag Titles)

As much as I would love to see the Funks win this its not gonna happen I expect this match to end through shenanigans or a clusterfluff type finish.

It will be interesting for me as the 4-corners WCW vs WWF hostility is still here but I really want to see you succeed get some ground on the big and crush them from underneath.

Live Event

Joey Styles welcomes the fans to tonight's show and introduces tonight's first match...

ECW Television Championship

Mikey Whipwreck © vs "Surfer" Ray Odyssey

The ever popular Whipwreck is out first. Odyssey is out next. Despite being a fan favorite himself, Odyssey...and his surfboard...are booed loudly as he locks up with the TV champ. The match starts off as a 'scientific' match between the two diminutive, good natured wrestlers. After trading holds for brief period, the match devovles into a brawl. Whipwreck lands a nice dropkick that causes Odyssey to tumble through the ropes and to the concrete floor at ringside. As Odyssey recovers Whipwreck begins to climb out of the ring, only to have "Surfer" Ray grab his surfboard an nail Mikey in the head. Whipwreck collapses to the mat and Odyssey climbs onto the apron. He goes for a springboard body splash, but Whipwreck rolls out of the way at the last second. Whipwreck then rolls up the dazed Ray Odyssey for the win.

The winner via roll-up at 5:19, and STILL ECW Television Champion...

6-man Tag

Jimmy Snuka, The Sandman (w/Peaches) and Tommy Dreamer

vs

Jason Knight & Phi Delta Slam (Big Tilly & Bruno Sassi)

Jimmy Snuka and The Sandman are two of the most popular stars in ECW, and they recieve thunderous applause as they are introduced. Tommy Dreamer is a good-looking, hard working young wrestler still trying to win over ECW fans. Despite his toughness and loyalty to the promotion, he is still dogged by the perception of being a "pretty boy". Jason is a solid wrestler, but his constant proclaimations of being the "sexiest man alive" rile up the fans at the ECW arena. Phi Dleta Slam are hated by the faithful here, but for a different reason...their big, but not particularly talented. During the match they are constantly heckled by the rowdy ECW fans, being called names like "the two-ton jobbers" and "Phi Delta Suck", and of course, chants of "you can't wrestle". The match is a back and forth affair with the Sandman and Dreamer spending most of the time in the ring for their team. The aging Superfly still gets the loudest ovation when he lands his "Superfly Splash" on Jason. In the end, as Snuka and Sandman hold off the rest of the heels, Dreamer picks up the win via submission on Bruno with a Figure Four Leglock.

Winners via Submission at 8:19...

Before the TV tapings begin Paul Heyman, formerly known as Paul E. Dangerously in the WCW, leads the massive Harris Boys to the ring. Ron and Don Harris are two big and powerful wrestlers, as well as twin brothers, but are not particularly over with the crowd. Heyman hypes them to the moon before letting the fans know the TV tapings are about to begin...and ECW merchandise is available in the lobby.

We cut to the Eagle's Nest, a partially enclosed balcony area in the ECW that overlooks the ring and the crowd, and announcer Joey Styles. After a quick rundown of what's gone on recently in ECW and what's in store for tonight, Styles calls tonight's first match...

Sabu vs Pitbull #2

Hardcore icon Sabu is widly over with the fans here in South Philly. He recieves a massive ovation when he enters the ring. Through out the entire match his opponent, the tough heavyweight Pitbull #2, is booed for every bit of offense he gets in. Pitbull puts up a fight, scoring a pair of near falls after a devastating Piledriver and a somewhat poorly executed Muscle Buster, but it's Sabu's night. A sweet Springboard Suicide Dive and three chairshots later and Pitbull is out on his feet. Sabu finishes him off with an Arabian Facebuster for the hard fought victory.

Winner via Arabian Facebuster at 7:32...

After the match, Pitbull #1 rushes out from the back and charges the ring. The tag team jump Sabu and put the boots to him two on one. After several minutes another popular ECW stalwart, The Tazmaniac hits the ring for the save. The Pitbulls want no part of Taz and bail out of the ring leaving Sabu down on the mat. Tazmaniac helps Sabu to his feet. Sabu is visibly annoyed, whether by the Tazmaniac's interference or by the Pitbulls beatdown we can't be sure. Either way, Sabu storms off to the back leaving Taz standing bewildered in the ring.

Cactus Jack vs Stevie Richards

Cactus Jack is a hardcore specialist and one of the few "big name" wrestler still in his prime that competes in ECW. He's loved by the fans for his willingness to put his body on the line each and every night. Stevie Richards is like the obnoxious kid in middle school we all wanted to punch in the face. The two square off in a fantastic match. The two clearly have great chemistry and both go all out in the bout. Stevie nearly scores the win early, locking Jack into a Camel Clutch for over minute...gouging the eyes just to be nasty. Jack finally powers out. The brawl spills outside, where Cactus lays Stevie out with a DDT on the concrete floor. Cactus sets up a table and motions to the crowd...

Joey Styles: "Oh My GAWD...he's going to Powerbomb Richards through that table!"

Richards recovers and nails Cactus with a forearm to the back. He whips Jack face first into the ringpost, leaving him bloodied and dazed. Richard sets him up on the table, then climbs all the way to the top turnbuckle. He mimics the Macho Man Randy Savage before taking flight with a leaping elbow drop. At the last second however, Cactus Jack rolls off the table and Stevie crashes through the table to the floor. Jack crawls back into the ring as the fans break into a chant of...

"That was awesome.....That was Awesome..."

Stevie eventually makes his way back into the ring, but he's nearly finished. After a few more minutes, Cactus Jack hits his finisher, the Double Arm DDT, for the win.

The winner via Double Arm DDT at 11:17...

Cactus Jack

Cactus Jack vs Stevie Richards:

************

Post match, Cactus Jack grabs a microphone and lauds Stevie for his great match. He tells the fans that Richards, "took me to my limit...he earned my respect and deserves yours." Richards grabs a mic of his own and replies...

Richards: "Well that's nice Jack...go ahead and pander to these losers in the stands all you want, but don't f***ing patronize me! You wait...all of you wait...Stevie Richards has a suprise for all of you...then you all will do more than respect me...you will fear me!"

Richards then hurls his microphone at Cactus Jack, hitting him right between the eyes. Richards can see Jack is not amused...he turns tail, jumps out of the ring and runs all the way backstage.

For weeks, Paul Heyman has been hyping a big announcement concerning the future of Eastern Championship Wrestling. Now Heyman is in the Eagle's Nest with Joey Styles. Styles is trying to get Heyman to divulge his secret, but Heyman is instead ranting on everything from why he hates WCW to why he really hates WCW. Finally, Styles can't wait anymore...

Styles: "Alright, that's it...you've been teasing us for weeks now...spill it...what in the world is your big announcement?!?"

Heyman: "Alright...all ya had to do was ask. You see I have been imformed...no no no...on behalf of myself, Tod Gordon and Eastern Championship Wrestling...I have arranged for ECW to host a tournament to crown the next NWA World Champion!"

Styles: "Oh my God. That's one of the most prestigious titles in the history of pro wretling."

Heyman: "That's right. ECW will host over the next few months the best wrestlers...both ECW mainstays and some suprising names from all over the world...in a tournament to crown the NWA World Heavyweight champion. Ya' see kid, ECW IS wrestling...real wrestling...so while the WWF has dancing clowns and wrestling mounties and WCW is loading down it's roster with these over the hill, these past their prime, these...these..."

Styles: "Dinosaurs?"

Heyman: "I didn't think dinosaurs could do that much cocaine...but you get the point...while they are playing games in the big two, ECW will be..."

Both men stop and look over their shoulders. Walking into the Eagle's Nest is current ECW Heavyweight champion Shane Douglas!

Douglas: "That NWA belt is going to look mighty fine right next my ECW belt."

Styles: "How can you be so sure you'll win the belt? I mean ther---"

Douglas: "Look Joey, even these idiots here in Philadelphia can figure I'm the best in ECW...and when I win the most coveted prize in all of professional wrestling, no one will be able to deny that I am the best wrestler in the world."

ECW Tag Team Championship

The Funk Brothers (Terry & Dory Funk Jr.)

vs

The Public Enemy (Rocco Rock & Johnny Grunge) ©

Enough talking...it's time for the main event! The Funk brothers are beloved here in the ECW arena. Public Enemy had been quite popular with the fans, but since winning the tag titles in March, there cocky attitude and cheating ways have turned the cheers to boos. They show their contempt for ECW and their fans by coming to the ring not wearing the title belts but dragging them along the ground behind them. Once the match begins, Terry does most of the brawling for his team. Yes brawling, as this is little less than an organized street fight. Just for fun Terry does apply the dreaded Spinning Toe Hold on Rocco Rock, but that's about the extent of the 'catch as catch can wrestling' for the night. After ten minutes of violent action, the crowd is on it's feet as Dory nails Johnny Grunge with a Piledriver. He covers, but Rocco Rock breaks the pin at the count of 2. Terry Funk jumps in the ring and it quickly devovles into a two on two 'pier sixer'. Grunge nails Terry with a low blow and tosses him out of the ring. The Public Enemy then turn their attention to Dory Funk and begin pummeling him two on one. Terry trades his sweat soaked headband with a fan at ringside in exchange for his steel folding chair and returns into the ring. He takes a swing at Grunge, but Johnny Grunge ducks out of the way and Terry hits his brother square on the skull! The sickening thud can be heard even over the shouts of the rabid ECW crowd.

Joey Styles: "OH MY GAWD! Terry Funk may have just accidentally ended the career...and the life...of his brother Dory!"

Terry can't believe it. He tries to help his brother to his feet, but he is blindsided by a clothesline from Rocco. The force of the clothesline sends both terry and Rocco over the top rope, and Johnny Grunge rolls up the nearly unconcious Dory for the win.

The winners at 13:31 via pinfall after an accidental chairshot to Dory Funk Jr. and STILL ECW tag team champions...

After the show, an irate Terry Funk refuses an interview:

After the match Terry helps his brother to his feet in the ring. Grunge and Rock rile up the fans, taunting the Funks before doing possibly the worst variation of the Electric Slide on their way back to the dressing room. Dory seems confused about what happens until Terry explains...the two brothers embrace in the ring as we fade to credits...

...We quickly cut to the parking lot outside the ECW arena. A cameraman is frantically running behind Paul Heyman. A crowd of fans leaving the building have gathered. It's a chaotic scene, with security and ECW wrestlers, heels and faces side by side, trying to clear the crowd. The cameraman finally pushes his way to the center of the crowd to see whats going on. Lying on the ground bloodied and barely moving, just a few feet from his 1992 Trans Am GTA, is ECW champion Shane Douglas! He was jumped from behind and slammed face first to the pavement. Paul Heyman is trying to find out who the attacker was...but Douglas never got a good look at the man....who was it? We may found out on next week's Hardcore TV!

Thanx...ECW from @ 1994 thru until 98/99 was a great run...sadly they just couldn't compete with the big boys, plus Heyman was a great booker but a lousy businessman...let's see if I can do better

Best of luck! I'd love to see E-C-Dub take down the big two. Or at least pick up the pieces of the first one to crumble. ;)

News and Notes from Eastern Championship Wrestling

Some random news and notes from South Philly...

- Owner Tod Gordon and Head Booker Paul Heyman are said to be pleased by this week's Hardcore TV taping, and expect the upcoming NWA World Championship tournament to, in the words of Heyman, "raise the profile of ECW, set us on a new direction and announce us as a force in pro wrestling."

- ECW have confirmed the release of little used fan favorite Chad Austin.

- ECW have announced the signing of wrestler Rob Van Dam. An exciting competitor who has competed all over the world including All Japan Pro Wrestling. Van Dam is an exciting young competitor with a unique style that blends traditional wrestling skills with Rob's legitimate martial arts training. Rob Van Dam has the talent...but is he tough enough to have an impact in Eastern Championship Wrestling?

New ECW signing Rob Van Dam:

http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/m507/JackKnifed72/ECW/RVDDebut.jpg

- Shane Douglas reportedly suffered a mild concussion during an assault outside the ECW arena at the end of last week's show, but the ECW Heavyweight champ has confirmed he will be at next week's Hardcore TV.

- Rumors are swirling that atleast one of the popular fan favorites in ECW are set to "turn heel" in coming weeks. The question is...who will it be?

- One match is confirmed for the next show, The Tazmaniac and Sabu will face off with The Pitbulls in tag team action.

Forgot to comment on this one, apparently. Great show. The Jack/Richards match sounds great. I hope somebody snuck a camcorder in and releases it online. :p

RVD is a solid signing, of course. Work him with guys like the Funks and other talented wrestlers so he can improve.
