<p><strong>Sting and “Nature Boy” Ric Flair</strong> vs. The Nasty Boys</p><p>

Fun Fan Signs: <strong>Fear Sting! </strong></p><p> </p><p>

Comments on Last Show: I didn't see the LOD turn coming before the show, but it hit me during their promo (nice Wrestlefest graphic, BTW! <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />)</p><p> </p><p>

My first thought when you announced the three way was that Sting would take the loss, and we'd begin a long march towards a potential Sting/Hogan Starrcade match a year from now. I should've gone with it. <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Comments on Last Show: The PPV was great, I didn't see the LOD turn coming, but it's awesome that you went with it. The KoW gets stronger. Another thing I did not see coming was the Flair victory. I thought he was the only one with no chance, but it's great how you did it. Sting is now the odd man out, which makes for an interesting storyline.</p>

A quick announcement: I am holding a show in the VERY near future that I will let you guys see (of course) but it won't be getting a major recap - just slightly more than Main Event gets - and I don't think I'll put it into predictions because aside from one match, it has nothing to do with storylines. You'll get to hear all about it on Saturday Night and in the next Hotline; it's a huge announcement!

I'll give the card out after it's announced, but like I said I doubt it'll have any impact on predictions.

Sting is standing in the center ring with a microphone, and he says that the Kings of Wrestling really got one over on him, as according to the rules of the match, now he can’t challenge for the WCW World title for a year. The crowd boos, save one fan holding up a sign reading “Hey Sting! only 349 days left!” Sting calms them, saying that there is nothing he can do about the ending of the match; it was completely unfair the way it went down, with Roddy Piper coming out and distracting him, but he cannot fault Ric Flair for taking advantage of the situation. He says that there’s no way that “The Stinger” is gonna take this lying down though, and even if he can’t wrestle for the World title itself, he’s gonna be a pain in the KoW’s collective you-know-what until he can, and as soon as he can, he’s going to see Hollywood Hogan in the ring and make him cry in the Scorpion Deathlock!</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ZHQTLLgBF78?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Surprisingly, the interruption is from “Nature Boy” Ric Flair coming out to the ring! He smiles at a sign that says “Sorry Ric! I never should have doubted you!” Flair gets in the ring and he tells Sting that he’s sorry about the way it went down; but he had to get that win and that number one contender spot. He says that Sting shouldn’t worry though – because if “The Nature Boy” has anything to do about it, in a year’s time, it’ll be Flair who Sting faces for the World championship! But until then, he’ll be just as happy helping Sting on his journey to rid the company of Hogan and his so-called Kings of Wrestling! But Flair says that he wants to see the match just as much as all the people want to see it, and that’s Hogan against Sting! Flair says he looked over the contract very fine before ever signing it, and one thing he saw listed was that his shot can come anytime he chooses, with proper notification given! And if Sting promises to do what he says he will, then Ric will step aside, ever so briefly, by putting a challenge out to Roddy Piper for Starrcade, for what he has done in helping to turn WCW upside-down! And maybe, just maybe, that’ll mean that we get to see another first-time, epic matchup in 1994! The crowd cheer that loudly, and the two shake hands and pose for the fans as we head to a commercial break.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><em>Rating: B+</em></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/TerryTaylor.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/ScottyRiggs.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/vs.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/StevenRegal.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/LannyPoffo.jpg</span><p> <strong>The Playboys vs. The Blue Bloods</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> In Baron Leonard’s first WCW match, he and Lord Steven Regal take Scott Stud and Terry Taylor to their limit, Regal stretching them this way and that for Tomas to impress with an aerial game that nobody would have expected to see from him. He takes Stud to the mat and arrogantly walks across his back to go tag in Regal, angering the pretty boys to the point that Taylor rushes the ring and smashes Tomas with the flying Fivearm! As Brady Boone pushes him out of the ring, Regal uses the distraction to his advantage, choking Stud with the bottom rope until he’s nearly unconscious, then pulling him into the center of the ring to apply the Regal Stretch for this one to end.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><em>Winners: The Blue Bloods</em></p><p><em> Rating: C</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/JeanPaulLevesque.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/vs.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/SteveArmstrong.jpg</span><p> <strong>Jean-Paul Lévesque vs. Steve Armstrong</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> Lévesque is on his man from the opening bell, barely allowing Armstrong any kind of offense whatsoever. They point to a sign proclaiming that “Road Warriors are the Nastier Boys!” as they climb into the ring. Dusty takes the mic and says that it seems everyone wants an explanation again. He says that everyone knows the Road Warriors are the best tag team in the history of wrestling, the only men to hold every tag team championship that matters. He begs the question though, where have they been? He passes the microphone to Animal, who says that after he took some time off, Hawk was forced to go to Japan, because that was the only people who would show him the respect that they deserve! But all the while, they hungered for dominance again. Hawk takes the mic then, saying that people should have known this was coming from day one when Dusty showed that he was with the KoW – as if it was going to take long for them to have their old friend’s back! The former two-time six-man tag team champions may have had some problems back in the 80’s, but that was an age ago, and when Dusty made the call, the only thing they had to wait on was Hawk’s time in New-Japan to end, and how perfect was it that it fell right when WCW decided to “be cute” and bring back WarGames? Dusty says that he told Hollywood after the first time the Nastys lost the Tag titles to Harlem Heat that they just weren’t cutting it. Rhodes shakes his head, saying that he bit his tongue when they won the belts back, but as soon as they lost them again, Hogan was convinced that it was time for a changing of the guard “if you weel!” Animal says that they do almost feel bad about what happened to Dustin last Sunday, but not too bad; he was warned what would happen if he stepped into war on the wrong side!</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/ArnAnderson.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/RickySteamboat.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> That brings out two men who aren’t happy about what happened at WrestleWar, Arn Anderson and Ricky Steamboat! Arn does most of the talking, saying that of all the people he’s ever met in his wrestling career, the two men he always knew would be there if you wanted a great, straight-up fight was the Road Warriors. He says that in the moment, it didn’t really register, but after a few days to think about it, he’s had to reorganize his thoughts – and it angers him greatly to find out what kind of cowards they have become! Hawk and Animal visibly bristle in the ring, as Steamboat talks about how he too always thought that even with their violent demeanor, he always thought they were men of honor, at least enough honor to not bludgeon a rising young star, a family friend, with a spiked gauntlet like they did! Hawk replies that Steamboat can act surprised all he wants, but Arn knows them better than that. Arn knows all about winning at any cost, better than anybody else! Anderson agrees, saying that he’s never worn a white hat in his entire career; but even with all the things he’s done in his life, at least he did it all face-to-face and didn’t sneak in the back door like he was yellow! Animal tells him that he needs to watch his mouth before it needs wired shut, when Anderson says that he’s out here with a purpose, and that’s to make them mad – under strict orders from “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes! Arn says that while Dustin hasn’t heard a word from his daddy about his condition, he and Ricky have been at the hospital with him, and if there’s one thing that Dustin wants, it’s seeing the Road Warriors across the ring from him and “The Dragon” at Starrcade, to teach them a lesson about respect that apparently they never learned in Chicago! The Warriors consult one another and laugh, Hawk saying that it’ll be their funeral.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><em>Rating: B-</em></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/PaulOrndorff.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWs/JimmyHart2.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/vs.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/MrJL.jpg</span><p> <strong>“Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff w/Jimmy Hart vs. Ichii Yazaki</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> Tony calls him “a masked sensation” but Yazaki has yet to be all that sensational in WCW as of yet. He does use this rare opportunity on Saturday Night to show off some skills though, which he does by taking Orndorff to the limit with an impressive mixture of mat wrestling and a few solid moves off the ropes. Yazaki is definitely a diamond in the rough in the midcard, but Orndorff is one of the main members of the KoW (win-loss record being whatever it may be) and on top of that is a very well-seasoned veteran. The new faster pace may not be what he’s altogether used to, but he weathers the storm and gets out of the way when Ichii comes off the ropes attempting a cross body. When he gets to his feet, a kick in the stomach and a Wonderful Piledriver put him flat on his mask for the pinfall.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><em>Winner: Paul Orndorff</em></p><p><em> Rating: C</em></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/SteveAustin.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> Backstage, Stunning Steve Austin stands over the seated members of the Stud Stable. BG interjects that even Austin had to cheat to keep his belt, but Steve shuts him up, saying that it don’t matter, he got his hand raised in the end and that’s all that is important! Austin says that he asked for one of the toughest guys in WCW to face him tonight just to prove a point to the rest of them, and he’s going to lead by example by beating Terry Funk’s wrinkled carcass into the mat tonight!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><em>Rating: C-</em></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/MichaelHayes.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWs/GeneOkerlund.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/TerryGordy.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> Mean Gene is with Michael Hayes, and he asks him about how Jimmy Garvin is doing after the match he had against Terry Gordy last Sunday. “P.S.” says that Garvin is doing okay, he’s back home, but that he likely won’t be showing up in WCW again because the whole ordeal with Gordy has disgusted him that much! Hayes says that he doesn’t know what bug crawled up Terry’s butt, but if he’s going out of his way to do all of this, then maybe he’s forgetting who made him a name in this business! Hayes says that if it kills him, he’ll show Terry why he was just silent muscle all those years! That brings Gordy into frame, who laughs at Hayes and his threats, telling him to say that to his face! But Hayes, ever the mouth, does so! Michael even throws a punch, smacking Gordy in the mouth! The Doll says that she’s happy that Johnny has done so much for her, as her self-esteem has risen greatly the past few weeks that they’d been talking, but she says that she doesn’t want him to get the wrong idea – she considers him a good friend, and she doesn’t want to change that. She says that she’s done managing for now (which drops a lot of the wind out of Johnny’s sails in itself) and is going to do something for herself now that she doesn’t have to be “the Diamond Doll” anymore. She says that she’s going to put in to start being an interviewer, and learn under Mean Gene and Gordon Solie! She cheerfully offers Johnny that she’ll interview him sometime, and says that people are going to start knowing that “Kim Doll” isn’t just a pretty face! But now, Kevin has given him all these scars and bruises, and they’ve lost blood by one another’s hands in WarGames. But he wants to make him hurt. Kevin says that he got a taste of hurting him physically at WarGames, but it turns out that isn’t enough. Sullivan says that he wants to hit Jack where it will actually hurt, and that’s mentally and emotionally. He says that he wants Cactus Jack at Starrcade just as badly as he knows Cactus wants him, and he knows that the only way they’re going to settle anything… is in a street fight! Sullivan goes on, however, to add that he doesn’t just want a street fight with Cactus. He wants something. He wants his life! Sullivan says that if he beats Jack, he will never again be Cactus Jack! That means no more stupid leopard boots, no more silly “bang-bang”, and no more team with Terry Funk! Sullivan says those are his terms. But what Cactus shrieks back takes even Sullivan by surprise.</p><p> </p><p> “I accept! Vader disposes of Bagwell by cornering him and hitting a horrendous running bodyblock, and then he powerbombs The Patriot onto the mat. The crowd just aren’t buying him like they should anymore, and as much as he’s still very good, this match shows that he can still hang with the young crowd well, he’s very much on the downswing of his career. Austin takes advantage of that, basically wrestling this one as a marathon instead of a sprint in order to tire out “The Funker” by the end of the match. Terry puts up a great fight, but in the end, youth comes out the better – or at least the sneakier. Funk gets an advantage toward the end of the match, and starts locking in his spinning toe hold. The Nastys do what they can to try and prove themselves, but this one is never in much doubt. Once the WCW main event players get rolling, there’s no level of brawling from Sags or Knobbs that can stop them. When Flair locks Sags into the figure four leglock and Sting twists Knobbs into the Scorpion Deathlock simultaneously, Jimmy Hart shakes his head and walks to the back, as there is nothing for them to do but submit. WCW/NJPW Present: WCW vs. The World

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWvstheWorld.jpg

WCW vs The World

Held from: Tokyo Nippon Budokan (Kanto)

Attendance: 13,675

Buyrate: 2.66

Rating: B+

The pre-show featured Lord Steven Regal and Jean-Paul Lévesque Jim Duggan and Johnny B. Badd by interference from Baron Tomas, Terry Gordy made Joey Maggs submit in the Oriental Spike, in eight-man tag action the Rock ‘n Roll Express and Texas Regulators defeated the Heavenly Bodies and Armstrong Brothers, the Nasty Boys defeated the Playboys. In order to get the crowd excited, we saw the arrivals of Sting and Ric Flair, then of Masahiro Chono and the Great Muta. These matches all will be on the home video release.

The show begins with The Great Muta defeating Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat in a great matchup, using the green mist to blind Steamboat before rolling him up for the pin at 15:48. NJPW goes one up on WCW. (B)

Mean Gene Okerlund is with Sting, who says that he’s ready for Masa Chono tonight. (D+)

The Hell Raisers defeated Brian Pillman and Jushin “Thunder” Liger when Animal Warrior came to the ring and distracted Pillman, leaving Liger open to be double teamed and put away with a Doomsday Device at 16:03. NJPW lead at 2-0. (B)

In the WCW World Tag Team championship match, Harlem Heat defeat the Rising Sons when Booker blasts Hayabusa with a flipping leg drop from the top rope at 10:07. WCW gains a point, now 2-1. ©

Sonny Onoo acts as interviewer/translator for Masahiro Chono, who says that he will bring great pride to NJPW when he decimates Sting in the main event. (D+)

Tainted or not, Stunning Steve Austin puts WCW’s score at an even level when he pins Shinya Hashimoto with his feet on the ropes at 16:06. Austin really showed he can hang with bigger names in the ring, as he infuriated the Japanese crowd at every turn. WCW tie it up at 2-2. (B-)

In a WCW vs. WCW “friendly” match, Cactus Jack defeated Terry Funk by first blood rules, smacking his mentor and friend in the face with a steel chair (which should have been on fire, but wouldn’t light) until he bled from the forehead at 9:49. ©

One good cheat deserves another, as Sonny Onoo tripped Arn Anderson during his match against Big Van Vader, which led to Vader smashing Arn in the turnbuckles and hitting a powerbomb for the win at 16:09. (B)

Riki Choshu is shown walking to the ring for his match next against Ric Flair. (B)

By the skin of his teeth, Ric Flair ties up the score at 3-3 by pinning Riki Choshu with a small package pin while Choshu was looking to hook Flair in his Sasori-Gatame in 17:25. (B)

Sting is shown backstage warming up for the main event. It all falls down to these two men! (B)

In an amazing main event match, Masahiro Chono falls just short of a victory, as Sting is able to rally at the end against all odds and hit a Stinger Splash before locking in the Deathlock to get a submission win at 17:19! (B+)

In a show of good sportsmanship, both men raise one another’s arms in the center ring to thunderous applause from the Tokyo crowd. (B+)

After the pay-per-view broadcast ends, Shinya Hashimoto and then Ric Flair come out and thank the crowd for coming to their show. This will be left on for the home video release.

Hotline will likely come tomorrow; I've gone a touch lazy and not booked the next SN yet, so I need to do that so I can give out a show preview and all. But I figured while I had this written, I'd go ahead and put it out now. Hope you enjoyed my concept show, the game itself certainly did!

It made WCW much money, and raised our popularity in Japan greatly. The buyrate, a 2.66, is incredible given half of the card were wrestlers that most American fans aren’t familiar with. Only one thing unfortunate happened, which is while WCW were in Japan, they released young star Hayabusa from his pay-per-appearance contract. There were no hard feelings involved on either side, as Hayabusa is free to concentrate on FMW again; officials at WCW said that they wished they could have developed this unique talent more, but his other commitments always had him so worn down that they dared not book him or risk an injury. WCW do retain the contract of Hakushi, however, and it sounds as though they want to prepare a singles push for the young man. </div></blockquote> <p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Option 8: What you aren't missing elsewhere!</span></p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Great taping guys, really; Yokozuna sitting on The Undertaker? By having him on board you've changed it from the old school Hogan buddies stable and opened the door for other dominant figures - I thought that if the KOW were serious about their self proclaimed title then they'd need the greatest tag team on board as well. You've turned Dusty vs Dustin Rhodes into a compelling storyline as well. Sting & Flair together will be fun... but it won't last... it never does... it's the old Lex Luger adage - when will Sting learn that they always turn on him. ALWAYS!</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> It's good to know that it wasn't because I telegraphed it, just you being ESP <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> I honestly almost didn't sign the Warriors, even when Hawk finished up with NJPW. But I was getting tired of the Nastys (though the past few matches I've had them in, they're really shining) and like you said, Dusty being with the KoW has really opened up the floodgates. And I'm glad you're enjoying Dusty vs Dustin; I realized that anytime I've ever seen a diary featuring both of them, either they stay friendly or else Dustin turns on his father. For once, I wanted to see the father be the one on the wrong side, with son trying to turn him back.... to the light side <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="TeflonBilly" data-cite="TeflonBilly" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Comments on Last Show: I liked the WCW vs The World PPV. Having something that didn't really pertain to anything (especially not on the NJPW side, because I set half of my traded people to be different from where they are there - in New-Japan, Mutoh is a heel, Hashimoto is a face, Sasaki is a face, Chono was a face but was just turned heel almost right after the ppv, Choshu is a heel, and Liger is a heel. Had I paid attention much, instead of the tag match I would've definitely had Pillman vs Liger, but I didn't even realize he had just won their title. Though I did find that they have great chemistry as partners - food for thought if I ever bring Jushin back around.</p>

WCW Television - December Week 1, 1994

WCW Saturday Night

December 1994, Week 1

Held at: Desert Sun Stadium

Attendance: 10,000

Rating: B

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWs/TonySchiavone.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWs/BobbyHeenan2.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWs/JesseVentura.jpg

"Huge Challenges"

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/RoddyPiper.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/PaulOrndorff.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/KevinSullivan2.jpg

“Hot Rod” Roddy Piper is in the ring along with KoW stalwarts Kevin Sullivan and Paul Orndorff watching his back from ringside. He says that he hears WCW thinks he’s stepping into the ring tonight against “that face-painted fool” Sting. He says that he knows the only reason they set up this match is to get him out here, unguarded, for Ric Flair to come attack him before their match at Starrcade later this month! And he’s not going to do it, unless someone can give him a reason! He suggests perhaps barring Flair, Arn, and any of their other friends from the building during the match?

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/Sting.jpg

“The Man Called Sting” brings out the painted one himself, and Sting says that he knows a way that he can guarantee that nobody will come out to this ring to attack Piper except for “The Stinger” himself – Sting says that he saw a few pieces of cold, hard steel backstage a bit ago, and a light bulb just went off as Piper was out here talking! Sting says that the answer is simple to solve the problem of how to keep this match one-on-one, just like how it sounds like “Hot Rod” wants it: a steel cage! Piper starts to backpedal, saying that he was just in a cage only two weeks ago, but Sting is persistent, saying that Piper is never one to back down from a fight, and what better setting for a fight is there than within fifteen feet of steel? Piper says “I already gave blood at the office at WarGames”, and Sting simply shakes his head, saying that he knew Piper has always been one to wear a dress, but he never knew he had to question what he had under it! Roddy’s face turns as red as his kilt in anger now, and he says that he’ll see Sting later, and he’ll make him eat his words along with a healthy dose of steel!

The Stud Stable w/Col. Robert Parker vs. “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, Johnny B. Badd, and Harlem Heat w/Teddy Long

You would think that the Stable, being a group, would have a great advantage here. And all together, they make for quite a major force; however, it doesn’t take long for this one to degrade into a massive brawl. As much as they’re a group, they are also very much two individuals and one team, which is what’s on the other side of the ring. The biggest advantage they have is Colonel Parker running distractions. But eventually Teddy Long comes over and chases him away up the aisle to make it a fair fight. Once everyone separates off like that, it becomes a free-for-all. Out of seemingly nowhere, Duggan blasts Brad Armstrong with a three point stance clothesline and makes a quick pin to give his team the win!

Winners: Jim Duggan, Johnny B. Badd, and Harlem Heat

Rating: C+

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/SuperNova.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/vs.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/Vader.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWs/SonnyOnoo.jpg

Super Nova vs. “The Monster” Vader w/Sonny Onoo

This “match” takes all of about a minute, and most of that is Vader taking time to pinpoint some punches onto young Nova’s body. Nova doesn’t even get to put up much of a fight before he’s slammed down with a powerbomb and pinned.

Winner: Vader

Rating: C-

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/ArnAnderson.jpg

After the match, Arn Anderson makes his way out, and he says that for someone who proclaims himself “the man” so often, he didn’t figure Vader would simply lay back and let a little shrimp like Sonny help him to win a match. Arn says that if Vader really wants to prove himself and show that it really is “Vader time” then he’ll accept a match against Anderson again, on the grandest stage of them all at Starrcade! Vader laughs off the challenge, saying that “The Enforcer” can expect to see him across the ring any time he wants to play! The men get into a staredown as we head to commercial break.

Rating: B-

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWs/GeneOkerlund.jpg

Mean Gene Okerlund is out at the entrance, and he says he has a very special guest with him right now. He says that you’ve all seen him elsewhere in the world, but now he’s calling World Championship Wrestling home! Please give a warm welcome to Rick Martel!

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/RickMartel.jpg

“The Lazarus Heart” by Sting (the singer, obviously) brings out Rick Martel, who doesn’t get a very great reaction given he’s been playing a heel for the last six years. He says to Gene that he expects that right off, but he’s here to speak his mind. He says that yes, he was a very bad man; spraying people with perfume, and thinking he was better than everyone. Martel says that his eyes are open now, and he hopes that in WCW he can get a new lease on life. He says that he knows it’ll probably take time for him to be accepted by the fans again, but that he hopes they’ll let him back into their hearts! He reminds everyone that they all loved him back when he was a fresh faced kid when he was last a World champion, and he hopes that now, as a slightly middle-aged man, he hopes that the fans can forgive him for the last few years by the next time he holds some gold!

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/PaulRoma.jpg

But here comes “Pretty” Paul Roma to interrupt! Roma says that he remembers very well when Martel was a so-called “fresh faced kid” because he was the same at that time too. But now, he’s the better man, because he’s being true to himself, instead of coming out here and apologizing for it! He says he knows Martel is just playing everyone again, and to prove it, he’ll get him in the ring! Martel says that he hates to hear these kinds of things, but knows that it’s bound to happen for a little while. He’ll meet him next week on Saturday Night!

Rating: D+

Notes: Rick Martel has debuted under the gimmick of “inspirational leader” which rated as 87.

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/JimmyDelRay.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/TomPrichard.jpg

The Heavenly Bodies come out from the back for their consecutive matches, but first they take a microphone and talk about their Starrcade rivals, the Rock ‘n Roll Express. They speak of how long this feud has lasted, across three different wrestling promotions now, but in the end, the Bodies will prove to be the better from it because they’re better wrestlers, they’re better looking, and the girls want them more!

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/RickyMorton.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/RobertGibson.jpg

Out of the back come Morton and Gibson themselves. They say that the only thing that’s gonna happen at Starrcade is what’s happened in two promotions previous, and that’s they’re gonna kick Prichard and Del Ray’s butts all over the arena! They say that it will be party time in two weeks at Starrcade, and the Express will be the ones rockin’ and rollin’ all night long, with their United States Tag Team titles safely around their waists!

Rating: D+

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/JimmyDelRay.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/vs.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/BobbyEaton2.jpg

“Gigolo” Jimmy Del Ray vs. “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton

Del Ray faces off with old RNR enemy turned respected ally Bobby Eaton, and the two put on a solid match with one another. It’s easy to see some influences of both men being the same (namely Jim Cornette, though they don’t name him on commentary) and the two look as though they could wrestle one another all night long without us seeing a winner. But we’re given one anyways, as “Suave” Steve Keirn marches out and makes his presence known by pushing Eaton off the turnbuckle right in front of referee Randy Anderson! As Steve gets in the ring and attacks, Randy calls for the bell, giving this one to Eaton by disqualification.

Winner by DQ: Bobby Eaton

WCW World Television Championship

Brian Pillman vs. “Doctor of Desire” Tom Prichard

The ring is cleared of Eaton and Keirn, but along with them Del Ray is also sent to the back, and that means the doctor is left to stand on his own! He proves himself a great singles talent though, taking Pillman to extremes he hasn’t seen in quite some time. But nobody knows the depths that Brian’s mind has dug down to yet, and after an insane springboard crossbody to the outside, Prichard is prime for the taking. Brian puts him away with a leaping tornado DDT to retain his championship.

Winner and STILL WCW World TV champion: Brian Pillman

Rating: C+

The match is over, and Pillman takes the microphone from Tony Schiavone. He says that his X-X-X Files will yet reveal “the Queen’s crowns” to the people, and if Hogan or Bockwinkel don’t like it, then come do something about it!

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/NickBockwinkel.jpg

Commissioner Nick Bockwinkel does come out then, and he says that in the interest of good taste, Pillman needs to stop this! He says that he would fire him right now for even thinking about doing such a thing, but he can’t fire him as long as he has the TV title! But Nick says he has a few tricks up his sleeve yet; namely, at Starrcade, he knows that Bubba Rogers will be getting a shot at the title. But that’s only if Brian can get past his opponent next week, a man who earned a title shot with a win at WCW vs. The World: The Great Muta!

The Nasty Boys vs. Terry Funk and Cactus Jack

With matches this good, it’s getting kinda tough to hate the Nasty Boys. They’ve been going out there and proving that they should still be flag bearers in the KoW, yet they’re still very much excommunicated from the group. Jack and Funk, though, have been on a roll since starting their team, even after beating the hell out of one another at WCW vs. The World last week. This is a great brawl between people who know how to, at points looking like it should be taking place in a barroom instead of the ring! Referee Nick Patrick loses control of it at one point, and the Nastys try to hit the Trip to Nastyville on Funk, but Jack makes the save, shoving Sags out of the ring! He drops Knobbs with a double arm DDT to get the win. Commentary talk about how he’s on the road to Starrcade to face Kevin Sullivan, and they say that there’s a lot on the line for both men.

Winners: Terry Funk and Cactus Jack

Rating: B-

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/kow.jpg

Just about that time, out comes “The Gamesmaster” himself along with The Butcher! They attack Funk and throw him into the guardrail before assaulting Cactus two-on-one in the ring. Sullivan double stomps Jack on the stomach, and has Butcher go out and grab a steel chair. He prepares to smash it down on Cactus’s head! Funk is still down and can’t get in to help at all!

But someone is able to help!

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/RonSimmons.jpg

Rushing out from the back comes big Ron Simmons! He charges into the ring and tackles Kevin before he can swing the chair, and he picks it up, sending the KoW scattering! Simmons helps Jack to his feet, and the two of them check on Terry, as the crowd gives all three men a warm ovation.

Rating: C

Notes: Ron’s face turn went pretty well.

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/HulkHogan2.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/Hawk.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/Animal.jpg

The screen cuts to the grainy footage of Pillman’s hidden hand cameras, where it shows Hollywood Hogan and the Road Warriors back in the KoW locker room. The Warriors are relaxing on a leather couch, as Hogan is talking to them about Sting. He is asking them for some advice in case Sting is able to get the match against him at Starrcade. Hawk and Animal tell him simply, keep doing what you’ve been doing, what you got set up at WrestleWar: don’t give Sting a chance. Don’t let the match happen if he can help it. Animal says that they need to watch this next match, see how the bodyguard does against Steamboat. Hollywood changes the subject to Dustin, saying that they need to just “do what they gotta do” to the boy, but Hawk says that Dustin is a special case – they gotta listen to “Big Dust” on this one. But who knows if he’ll ever show up after what they did to him at WarGames. The feed ends, and commentary wonder if there may be some type of power struggle going on in the so-called “Trinity”, but also they saw the fear of Sting going on in the KoW locker room!

Rating: B

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/Meng.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/vs.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/RickySteamboat.jpg

Meng vs. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat

This match goes pretty much as you would expect it to; Meng leans on Steamboat hard, who takes it all and keeps on struggling back up again. “The Dragon” holds his own while avoiding the Tongan Deathgrip as much as he can. Steamboat fights back toward the end out of a nerve hold by making Meng get off balance with a few deep arm drags. Steamboat comes off the ropes with a flying knife edge chop, before hitting a huge cross body block into a lateral press for a hard-fought victory over the bodyguard.

Winner: Ricky Steamboat

Rating: C+

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/kow.jpg

Steamboat is recovering in the ring when Meng comes up behind him and locks on the Tongan! Out of the back comes Dusty Rhodes and Paul Orndorff, and “Mr. Wonderful” lays the boots into Ricky as Dusty yells at him for keeping his son involved with this! Rhodes says that if Ricky doesn’t encourage Dustin, he’ll stop all this family feuding! He gets on a microphone and says that Steamboat is the reason that Dustin isn’t here, and will never be back in wrestling again after WarGames! He says that it is people like Ricky, and Anderson, and Flair, who are using his son as leverage against him, and he’s had it! Dusty drops an elbow on “The Dragon” before saying that he wants to see his son do the right thing and join back up with his father to take over WCW, but as long as they’re in his ear, he won’t do it, he’ll think that the KoW are bad guys, when it’s his own flesh and blood! Orndorff drills Steamboat with a piledriver, and Dusty says that this is why WCW will fail – because the KoW come out here and assault one of their chosen heroes, and nobody back there cares!

OUT OF THE CROWD COMES DUSTIN RHODES!

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/DustinRhodes.jpg

Over half of his head is wrapped in gauze, but even with one eye he still sees well enough to knock “Mr. Wonderful” with a cowbell on a bull rope, and Meng gets the same! Dusty slips out of the ring in a hurry, and he looks at his son as if he’s seen a ghost! “The Natural” tells them to bring it on, as it looks as if the tag team match at Starrcade will go on after all!

Roddy Piper is seen backstage, with Hollywood Hogan giving him some last minute encouragement; namely “go out there and break his spirit, brother”.

Steel Cage Match

Sting vs. “Hot Rod” Roddy Piper w/Jimmy Hart

It’s a very solid back-and-forth matchup between the two, as the old guard of the KoW squares off against the new hero of WCW. Piper tries to make Sting eat his words from earlier by sending him crashing into the cage numerous times, but Sting is always able to keep in the match by means of the “Little Stingers” cheering him on. Roddy goes for his dreaded sleeperhold to put Sting out, but even when Piper jumps up onto Sting’s massive back, Sting is able to back into the cage to break the hold! Sting then goes up to the middle rope and leaps off with a flying Stinger Splash! He grabs “Hot Rod” by the legs and spins him into the Scorpion Deathlock, and as big as Piper’s talk has always been, it doesn’t take him long to scream in submission, giving a bloody Sting the victory!

Winner: Sting

Rating: B+

The match is over and Piper gets out of the ring as the cage comes down. Sting stays in the ring, and he says that this was only a taste of what Hollywood Hogan is going to have coming to him at Starrcade, and he’s going to enjoy giving it to him! Sting talks about how now the Kings are running scared, and he says it’ll be off with their heads! He’ll weaken Hogan, and then he’ll let Flair win the World title until the year is up, and then “the Stinger” will be the first man there to face him for it!

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/RicFlair.jpg

That brings out the “Nature Boy” himself to the ring, and he says that he’s glad to see Sting so confident about beating Hollywood, and it is his respect for the man which is why Ric has offered to take the lower stage at Starrcade… but what’s this he hears about Sting beating Flair for the World title in a year? Flair laughs, telling him that once he gets his hands on that gold again, he’s gonna style and profile ‘til the day he dies! None of that includes dropping it to Sting next year! The two men, friendly the past few weeks, now come nose to nose with one another over shared ambitions.

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/HulkHogan2.jpg

Out comes Hollywood Hogan with a huge smile on his face. He says that this has given him an idea that is just too good to pass up. Next week, we’ll see just who gets to face Hogan at Starrcade – it’ll be Sting, against Ric Flair, and whoever wins, will main event Starrcade, and have the honor of getting the big leg dropped on them! Hogan says that both men need to train and take their vitamins… but nobody’s gonna care about their prayers! The show goes to credit on the sight of Hollywood reveling in the dysfunction in front of our very eyes!
