WCW Hotline; October 1994, Week 2

Press 1 for WCW Halloween Havoc '94 control center!

Press 2 for news on WCW in Mexico!

Press 4 for WCW Saturday Night preview!

Press 5 for last week's ratings breakdown!

Press 8 for WWF Monday Night Raw results!

Press 9 for a special gift from the WCW Catalog!

Option 1: WCW Halloween Havoc control center!

The match is set - Hollywood Hogan will take on Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, with the WCW World Heavyweight championship on the line! Also, the Rock 'n Roll Express have said that they'll be glad to take on The Sullivans for the US Tag Team titles! We've also found out that The Nasty Boys, now FORMER World Tag Team champions, will face off with Dustin Rhodes and Arn Anderson in what should be a brawl for the ages!

Option 2: Viva la Mexico!

Where just last week we reported that WCW had cancelled it's pay-per-view provider for being unsuitable to work with, this week they have already been put back on the air, this time with the company MVS Multivisión! Both sides are pleased with this deal, as it will give WCW more freedom in their booking, as well as giving MVS a wrestling company aside from AAA to show.

Option 4: WCW Saturday Night preview!

Two blockbuster tag team matches have been signed! Ric Flair and Arn Anderson take on Hollywood Hogan and The Butcher, as well as Sting teaming with Dustin Rhodes to face Vader and Terry Funk! Huge feuds collide, and the fans will be the only winners! As well, Sting has said he is finally ready to answer Vader's challenge for Halloween Havoc!

As you may have seen on Main Event, Flyin' Brian issued a challenge to Jean-Paul Lévesque, and he immediately answered! Lévesque has been undefeated in WCW, will he gain the WCW Television championship?

Also, Ricky Steamboat faces another test from the KoW! All this, and more - tune in to The Superstation at 6:05 ET for WCW Saturday Night!

Option 5: Ratings breakdown!

WCW Saturday Night landed a great rating of 7.70 this past week. Monday Night Raw over on USA scored a slightly higher than last week 5.88. WCW Main Event stayed in one of it's usual places with a 0.56.

Option 8: What you're not missing!

Who did HBK and Diesel make mad? On the October Week 2 taping of Monday Night Raw, the two drop another tag match, this time to the *snicker* world class team of Tatanka and Undertaker. I guess you can come in to our territory, but our territory won't come to you!

Option 9: A special gift from the WCW Catalog!

Feel nostalgiac? Get a "Hulkster Rules" t-shirt for 25% off!

Fun Fan Signs:

So I was a bit amused, it looks like NWA: New Jersey are going out of their way to be hating on everyone. Within one day, they gained hostile relationships with Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation, Smokey Mountain, Southern States Wrestling, and USWA, and they were already hostile with ECW and WWC.

I purposely left out the Tag title match, because I wanted that to be a surprise. So how many of you were surprised? :D Nobody saw the win from Badd and Wright coming? "Das Wunderkind" is not undefeated for nothing ya know! However, in this game, everyone is entitled to one wrong answer... so here is the new and improved predictions board!

In all honesty, I really only originally wanted to sign them just to do a few quick matches with the RNRs, much like the WWF did. But then, in wanting to remember more about Del Ray for the purpose of writing matches, I found this:

WCW World Television championship

Flyin' Brian vs. Jean-Paul Lévesque

The show this week opens up with the TV title match, as the undefeated Lévesque takes on the newly crowned champ. The camera zooms in on a sign that reads "Flyin' Brian - Made for TV!" Lord Steven Regal makes his way out halfway through the match and distracts Brian, but he doesn't do much except just hang around to watch. Lévesque works hard in the match, showing that he does have the possibility of being a champion in the future, but the match ends very strangely. Lévesque nearly takes the win, looking to hit the Pedigree, but Brian reaches under the ring and pulls out the black spray paint that was given to him last week - and sprays Jean-Paul in the eyes with it! Brian pounces back into the ring with Air Pillman and gets the pin, but that's not the big story; what's up with Pillman?

Winner and still WCW World Television champion: Flyin' Brian

Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat vs. "Gamesmaster" Kevin Sullivan w/Dave Sullivan

The Sullivans try to use their numbers against Steamboat, and that keeps the "Gamesmaster" in the driver's seat of the match very well. Every time Ricky starts to rally up, Kevin uses his brother to find a way to bring him back down. This goes on for quite a while, but backup emerges when Cactus Jack comes out from the back! Jack yells at Kevin, telling him that he will face him yet, and Kevin denies it - and he turns around into a flurry of knife-edge chops, leading to a big tomahawk chop to the head, and Steamboat covers for the win, thanks to Cactus Jack!

Winner: Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat

As Steamboat leaves, Cactus grabs a microphone. He tells Kevin that he told him he'd make him regret it if he doesn't face him at Halloween Havoc, and he says he knows exactly how to make that happen. Jack says that while Kevin was busy getting ready to join the KoW, Cactus was paying attention, and he learned where Sullivan's weak point is at; Jack then rushes Evad, smashing him with the microphone! Cactus assaults poor Dave, beating him down to the ground and then hitting a knee to the face as he laid against the steel barricade! Jack gets another microphone and says that now he's hurt Kevin's brother, the same way the Nasty Boys did before - does he get a match now?

We head backstage where Diamond Dallas Page and the Diamond Doll are talking about their match next, when Stunning Steve Austin enters the room. Austin asks if they're ready to prove themselves to the Stable, but he doesn't let Page finish answering before cutting him off. He tells them that last week was an affront to all that is, an injustice was done to them, and if nobody else will say it, he will: it was her fault! Page tells Austin not to worry, just watch the match and he'll see. Austin tells them to get out there and show him why they let them in the Stud Stable then. The match is next!

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan vs. Diamond Dallas Page w/Diamond Doll

"U - S - A!" chants ring out over this match, and Duggan does his best to use that to feed his energy, while Page mostly uses underhanded tactics and big impact moves to get the advantage whenever he can. Diamond Doll just keeps to herself, even when DDP asks her to lift the "10" card she just does so without making a scene. With the Doll not causing a fuss, Page is free to wrestle his match, and it shows that a motivated DDP is a dangerous thing, as he pulls an illegal object out of his tights to smash Duggan with, leading to the Diamond Cutter and a pin.

Winner: Diamond Dallas Page

Rating: D+

Notes: Bad chemistry hurt both this and the previous match a lot.

Lévesque is backstage sulking, having tasted his first defeat in WCW earlier tonight. Lord Regal walks over to him, sneering, and asks him just what he thinks he's doing. Jean-Paul says that he just got the spraypaint washed out of his eyes, but Regal says he doesn't care about that; he wants to know just what he was doing, taking Regal's TV title match! His Lordship reminds him that Lévesque told him he would find a way to make it right for Regal - at what point in the plan did that involve getting himself a title match?! Lévesque says that it wasn't, that just happened, and Regal tells him that he has other plans now, so unless Jean-Paul has something more to offer, then stay out of his plans, and if Lévesque can't get the job done, then leave Flyin' Brian to Lord Regal!

Mean Gene Okerlund comes out and his guest is "The Dragon" Ricky Steamboat. Gene asks Steamboat what he thinks about getting his match against Hollywood Hogan, and he says that he hopes and prays that Hogan will put the title on the line against "The Dragon" so that he can bring the belt back to WCW! Steamboat says that he's been training hard, and he will be ready for the turncoat come Havoc!

Stars 'n Stripes vs. The Heavenly Bodies

While one fan holds up a sign reading "Let's hear it for the USA!", and Bagwell and Patriot look good in the match, this one is pretty much all about the Bodies, as they double team and dismantle Bagwell for most of this match. Stars 'n Stripes work together to come back, but an unannounced spectator causes their downfall as Lord Steven Regal makes another appearance, coming out and telling Marcus from the outside that they thought they hurt his cause by getting rid of Sir William, but really their plan backfired as now he's going to be stronger than before! Bagwell tells him to bring it on if he thinks he should face them again, but Bagwell turns right into a savate kick from Del Ray. The double flapjack follows quickly after, and the Bodies pick up the win.

Winners: The Heavenly Bodies

"The Gigolo" dances as Dr. Tom poses with their stolen US Tag Team titles as if they had defended them, but here come the Rock 'n Roll Express! They hit the ring, but the Bodies don't stick around to fight, hopping out of the ring and heading up the ramp. Ricky and Robert are hot on their tail, and they all run out of the arena.

Diamond Doll is alone for a change, and of all people, Johnny B. Badd walks to her side. Badd asks why she puts up with what DDP and the Stud Stable have been putting her through, and he says that maybe she needs to find someone who values her for what she can do, instead of just a "doll" to have on the side. Doll doesn't have much of an answer for it, but before it can go any further Stunning Steve walks into frame! He says that the problems in the Stable are none of his business, and there aren't problems in the Stud Stable - so mind his own business! He tells Badd that he already got his undeserved title rematch at Havoc, now he should keep his nose away from "Page's Doll" before the Stable all come and knock it off his face! Austin and Doll head off, as Badd stands there with a smile in knowledge that he's getting his title - and also getting under their skin.

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/StevenRegal.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWs/EricBischoff.jpg

Eric Bischoff is backstage alongside Lord Steven Regal, who still looks to be in a foul mood after talking to Jean-Paul earlier. Bischoff asks him about what his "plans" are, and why he was watching the match with Stars 'n Stripes. Regal says that Lévesque has already gone to Nick Bockwinkel on his orders and is commissioning a TV title rematch, for Regal this time, for Halloween Havoc. But Lord Regal says that while the boy shows potential, Regal has another plan in mind, and that involves why he was out during the tag team match. Regal says that Stars 'n Stripes led him to fire his long-time servant, Sir William, and that left a hole in his defenses as he now has no one to keep the peasants away from him. So Lord Regal put in a call to his homeland, and they have sent him someone who will be leagues better at watching Lord Regal's back, as well as being able to get in the ring - and he introduces us to the Baron Leonard Tomas!

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/LannyPoffo.jpg

(Look kids, it's Lanny Poffo!)

Tomas walks into frame, and he says that when he received the call from Lord Regal's royal family to come and help him in WCW, he jumped at the chance. He says that he will emasculate all those in their way, and if he and his Lordship cannot get the World TV title back, then perhaps the two of them shall go after the Tag ranks? Tomas says that the sky is the limit, and that no matter who you are in WCW, you need to watch out for the Blue Bloods!

Rating: D

Baron Leonard debuted his high society gimmick and scored an 87 with it.

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/Sting.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/BrianPillman.jpg

Elsewhere in the back, we find Sting and Flyin' Brian. Sting is asking Brian what his deal was with the ending of his match earlier, but Brian doesn't answer him. Sting keeps up the pressure though, shoving Pillman and asking him what he's doing! Pillman responds, and he says that he's tired of everyone being in his face! He says that his heroes abandoned him, his friends abandoned him, and he's doing things for himself! Sting says that he never abandoned Brian, but Brian says that nobody has ever been there to have his back, and that includes Sting. Sting gets upset, and he fires back that Pillman only had to ask, when some "Body" comes onto the scene.

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/JesseVentura.jpg

He says that the two of them need to calm down, if they need to hash this out so badly, then he'll try to get a Body Shop set up so that they can all do so safely. Sting starts to say no, but Brian jumps over him and says he accepts - but only if Jesse can get Hogan to show up also. Sting asks why, but Pillman takes the moment to throw his things in his duffel bag and walk off without an answer. We fade to commercial on the confused faces of Sting and "The Body" as they look toward where Brian walked away.

Hollywood Hogan & The Butcher w/The Queen & Jimmy Hart vs. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair & "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson

Tony mentions that Sting asked Nick Bockwinkel to get his match bumped past this one so that he would have time to get ready after the explosion with Flyin' Brian a few moments ago, and Bockwinkel allowed it, so here's this match, which "would be a main event anywhere in the world" as they say. Everyone gets their amount of offense in the ring, with the former Horsemen contingent starting the match strong on Butcher, but Queen and Hart do what they can from the outside to bring their KoW reps into the driver's seat. Butcher shows that he isn't horrible, as surprisingly he doesn't outright tank this one. The ending seemed to leave a sour taste in the crowd's mouth though, as Flair gets ready to hook in the figure four on Hogan but Roddy Piper rushes out to break it up at about the same time as Meng emerges and starts fighting with Anderson, and at the point that Ricky Steamboat dives onto Hogan, Nick Patrick has no choice but to just throw the whole thing out.

Winner: No Contest to excessive interference

Rating: B-

Note: Yeah, the SE finish hurt this one pretty hard in the rating.

Dustin Rhodes comes out and helps drive the KoW to the floor. From the ring, Ric Flair grabs a microphone while Arn points out a sign that says "This is Horsemen Country". Flair looks to the KoW contingent on the floor and says that he thinks he has an idea - he thinks he speaks for everyone in the ring, when he says that nobody wants to have to wait for Halloween Havoc to get their hands on their respective enemies, so next week on Saturday Night, Flair says that he'll bring these three men, and Hogan can bring his three men, and they'll have an eight man tag team match! Hogan and Piper confer on the floor for a moment, and they make an agreement! The match is set for next week!

Sting & "The Natural" Dustin Rhodes vs. Vader & Terry Funk w/Sonny Onoo

This one is given time to be a good match, as Rhodes stays in the ring and waits for the opponents to come out. Sting hits the ring and this becomes a great tag team main event, as all four men tell the story of men who want to beat one another down and show themselves to be the better man. Vader uses his bulk and hard-hitting style to knock Dustin nearly out, and Funk comes in to take advantage of the downed youngster, and Sting does his part on the outside to keep the fans into it. Dustin shows that he will one day be a world class athlete by fighting back from under the weight of both his foes, along with dealing with the outside distraction of Sonny Onoo. Sting finally gets into the match from a hot tag, and he cleans house for a little while. Dustin comes back into it, and Onoo interjects himself by slipping Vader his disposable camera. Vader bashes Rhodes with it, knocking him out, and Vader covers well enough that Randy Anderson can't see that he's covering the wrong man, as the two heels pick up the very, very tainted win.

Winners: Vader & Terry Funk

As Vader celebrates in the ring, Sting helps Dustin get to the back. Terry Funk seems to disappear, walking off shaking his head, and Vader calls Sting to come back out and give him his answer! Sting walks back out with his own microphone, and he says that as far as Vader's challenge.... he denies him the iron man match, saying that he doesn't think that will be anything that'd prove anything. He says that he and Vader have gone all these rounds before, but there's one way that they can brawl it out until one of them can only say that they were the better man - Sting says he wants Vader in a Halloween Street Fight!

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/NickBockwinkel.jpg

Nick Bockwinkel rushes out, and he says No! Nick says that as commissioner of WCW, he cannot sanction a match like that which could potentially be damaging to both men's careers! Vader laughs, and he says that if Sting wants to sign his death warrant, then he'll see him next week to sign the contract. Sting tells Nick that it looks like he doesn't have a choice - if he doesn't present them with a contract next week, then they'll just head out back and do it on their own time! Bockwinkel shakes his head and agrees - next week, the contract signing!

WCW Main Event

Announcers: Gordon Solie, Eric Bischoff, Bobby Heenan

Rating: C

A video airs from Saturday Night of the ending segment with Vader and Sting. (B)

The Armstrong Brothers defeat Joey Maggs and Bobby Walker, as BG pins Walker. (D-)

The Armstrongs stop by Eric Bischoff and talk about how they sent those two goofs from Texas back home last week, but they're interrupted by the Young Pistols! Steve says that he's bit his tongue for awhile, but the time has come for he and Tracy to speak up to his brothers; he says that if they won't turn away from the Stud Stable willingly, then he'll have to force them to! Brad seems distant, not wanting to fight his brother, but BG says that it was his idea to join the Stable, and if he has to fight for that idea, then he's going to! The match is set up for Halloween Havoc! (D-)

Scott Stud defeats Sgt. Craig Pittman with a flying forearm. (D)

Gordon Solie brings out Paul Roma, who says that even he admits he's had a slight downfall lately. But he says he went and scoured the globe to find himself something to put him back on top, and he says he has found it - introducing Alex Porteau! Roma says that Porteau is one of the best mat wrestlers you'll ever find, and the two of them are going to go straight to the top of the tag ranks! Porteau says that everyone better be ready, because they represent both Style And Substance, and nobody in WCW can live up to that. (D)

Note: Alex Porteau debuted his wrestling machine gimmick, to a 91

Roma's former partner, Paul Orndorff, comes out after that and talks to Bischoff, first saying that he wishes Roma the best in his new team, but then turning his attention to Jim Duggan, saying that people have asked him about the attack on Duggan the other week. Orndorff says he had nothing to do with that - only that he was there. He says that it was Butcher who did that, and while he's going to support his KoW brother, he isn't going to get in that business. (D+)

The Young Pistols defeat Bad Attitude when Eaton and Keirn collide by accident, and Smothers rolls Keirn up in a small package for the win. (D)

Afterwards, Eaton and Keirn get into a shoving match. (E+)

"Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff is in our main event, as he faces off with young Marcus Bagwell. Bagwell puts up a solid fight, but Orndorff's experience edge puts him ahead of the curve, and a jumping piledriver gets the W. (C-)

A video plays to highlight Hollywood Hogan and Ricky Steamboat, and they announce that Hogan has agreed to face Steamboat at Halloween Havoc. (B-)

Also announced, the Armstrong Brothers of the Stud Stable take on the Young Pistols in a family feud, and Stunning Steve Austin will defend his US title against Johnny B. Badd!

Option 2: New stars debuting!

WCW has unveiled two new stars this week, those being Alex Porteau and Baron Leonard Tomas. Porteau is a regional wrestler, and he caught WCW's eye with his technical acumen. He just recently walked out of his contract with GWF, citing pay troubles with the company. He will be teaming with "Pretty" Paul Roma as the team Style And Substance. Tomas is better known as "Leaping" Lanny Poffo and The Genius. He's a semi-active wrestler, who will mostly be managing Lord Steven Regal but can also get in the ring alongside him as well.

Option 4: WCW Saturday Night preview!

The challenge was accepted, and the Kings of Wrestling will get in the ring to face off with the heroes of WCW! Who will come out on top of this massive battle?

Commissioner Nick Bockwinkel will oversee the contract signing of Sting and the monster Vader! Will cool heads prevail?

Also in action, "Das Wunderkind" Alex Wright and Johnny B. Badd will face the Armstrong Brothers in singles action, Slazenger and Pierce face off with Stunning Steve and Diamond Dallas Page, and Sting faces veteran Bobby Eaton! And the debut in the corner of Lord Regal of Baron Leonard Tomas, as Regal faces Terry Taylor! All this action and much much more, only on The Superstation at 6:05PM ET!

Option 5: Last week's ratings!

WCW Saturday Night dropped slightly last week to a 7.35 rating, while Raw stayed in the same range by getting a 5.88. WCW Main Event jumped up to a 0.61 rating.

Option 8: What you aren't missing elsewhere!

Raw put on quite the stinker of a show this week, as Shawn Michaels and Diesel again job out to Men on a Mission, and in the main event Jeff Jarrett defeated Bam Bam Bigelow. Great job, guys!

Option 9: A Special Gift from the WCW Catalog!

Get a great 35% off on a San Francisco ToyMakers WCW licensed action figure of the Stinger by calling the WCW Catalog and then extension #345!

------------

What's everyone think of the new style as far as the managers pictures?

As for the prediction contest.... only one person saw the no contest coming... and I can't blame you for thinking Butcher would be the fall guy. But that in mind, since one person DID guess that way, I can't in good conscience hand out any points for this week  However I can say that I'm very happy to see a new face or two pop up with seemingly each show.

------------

Smasher1311 -

I'm not a specialist on WCW's Tag Team Division on this era, so this may be a shot in the dark...

The Bodies actually never wrestled in WCW, so don't feel TOO bad. They were in SMW and then the WWF as basically jobbers to the RNR Express and the Steiners. The only time they got anything worth note was in matches on WWF TV for the SMW Tag belts; but after I stole the RNRs from the WWF, I figured I may as well grab the Bodies too if I could!

angeldelayette -

I think Bagwell and The Patriot could have had a nice long run as a tag team in real life.

Honestly I thought about breaking them up... I considered making Bagwell as Roma's new partner as soon as I thought of making a new team for "Pretty" Paul. But then the incident came up with Porteau walking out of GWF, and I thought he'd work well for it. Even better, I went through the names in TEW and it gave me "Style And Substance".... perfect!

alvarasus -

After that video I have to go with the Heavenly Bodies just for the fact I had to sit through the nightmare of Del Ray dancing.

I feel your pain brutha, hahaha that is an image that shall be burned onto my retinas for a long time! But keep in mind - guys like Del Ray and Rude and the Von Erichs, much like a guy like Burt Reynolds, was kinda considered the female's eye candy back then! Though in JDR's case, I'd say it was played for laughs more than anything.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the manager pictures, I think it kind of clutters the layout and makes it off-center. But it's by no means unreadable, I don't mind if you stick with it or not. Also, that Del Ray video might be the best thing I've ever seen. I also see why you selected Lanny Poffo as the surprise opponent for my last card hahahaha

WCW Saturday Night

Johnny B. Badd w/Teddy Long vs. BG Armstrong w/Colonel Robert Parker

This match is a showcase that lets everyone see that one of these days, BG Armstrong will be a semi-major player... but not just yet. BG controls the match well for a good portion of it, but Badd is able to put all his comeback spots to use in this rather formulaic match. Badd ends it with the Diss That Don't Miss punch, as Parker throws a fit on the outside.

Winner: Johnny B. Badd

Rating: C

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/SteveAustin.jpg

Badd is still in the ring after the match, and he points at Parker telling him to shine up the US title for him! He is in such process of celebrating, that he doesn't notice Austin sliding into the ring and attacking him - he smashes him with the title belt and Johnny goes down in a heap! Austin puts his foot on Badd's fallen body and holds his title belt high.

Backstage we see Jean-Paul Lévesque walk up to Lord Steven Regal and Baron Leonard Tomas. Jean-Paul is all smiles as he tells them that due to the nature of the win last week, Nick Bockwinkel is striking his match last week from the record books, so he is still undefeated in WCW! Lévesque then asks them what the plan is. They do acknowledge him, but it's pretty clear that they have their own agenda that they don't really want Lévesque in on. They tell Jean-Paul not to worry about it, that soon Lord Regal will have the TV title back around his waist, and if not, then it won't be long until he gets one of the Tag Team championships. Lévesque nods, and the two walk away.

The cameraman hears a noise of a shouting match, and he heads into the next room from where the Blue Bloods were, and finds Cactus Jack and Nick Bockwinkel. Nick is trying to tell Jack that there isn't anything he can do, the contract he'd signed for Fall Brawl was legal; Kevin Sullivan will not face Cactus Jack at Halloween Havoc. He does note though that after Jack attacked Evad last week, Kevin was furious. Cactus looks determined though, and he fires back that he read over that contract too, and it says one very specific phrase: it will be their only one-on-one match. Jack says that if he can find a partner, will Nick give him a tag team match against the Sullivans? Bockwinkel says that he's potentially missing out on people who want to see the Sullivans against the Rock 'n Roll Express, but Jack tells him to think about all the people who want to see the underdog Cactus Jack rise up and defeat the evil-doers like Kevin Sullivan - it's a classic story, Nick! Bockwinkel laughs, almost condescendingly, but he says that he'll take a chance - he can give the Sullivans their title match next week on Saturday Night, but Jack better find himself a partner or else he'll be in deep you-know-what!

"You're getting pathetic, Jack!"

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/TerryFunk.jpg

It's Terry Funk - he happens past the two and laughs, having overheard what was being said. Funk says that was so sappy; the story about an underdog rising up against evil? Funk says that he's always thought that Cactus should have been the one doing the evil, "But ya went soft, didn't ya, Cac? You always been soft like that." He goes on to say how sad it is to see Cactus Jack standing here begging the commissioner for a match, instead of going out and just beating the ever-lovin' tar out of whoever he wants to face! Funk compares him to a kid who got beat up on the playground and he's going to tattle instead of taking matters into his own hands. "Oh, you beat up a dummy to try and make big brother mad? Nobody cares about Dave Sullivan, not even Kevin! Why would you ever have thought that'd do it?" Jack starts firing back, saying that he's doing what he has to do, but Funk tells him he's just being a coward - and Cactus punches him! The two start scuffling, but Nick breaks it up, and he says that if they want to fight, do it when it's legal, in the ring - next week on WCW Saturday Night!

Terry Taylor vs. Lord Steven Regal w/Baron Leonard Tomas

This match had some very solid action going for it, as Regal and Taylor are two men who can still hold a very good technical match. Taylor gets slight reaction behind him when he rallies toward the end, but the Baron makes his presence felt, tripping him when he set up for the Fivearm. Regal capitalizes when Taylor turns to yell at Tomas, by hitting a knee in the center of Terry's back. Regal twists him into the Regal Stretch, and Taylor has no choice but to submit.

Winner: Lord Steven Regal

From the back comes Flyin' Brian, who laughs at Regal while holding up the WCW Television championship. He says nothing, but the message is clear - I have what was your's. Regal kicks the bottom rope, throwing a fit in the ring at the intruder to his celebration.

Brad Armstrong w/Colonel Robert Parker vs. "Das Wunderkind" Alex Wright

It's been a strange road for Brad Armstrong. He still has yet to really give himself over to playing a heel, and he's been acting respectibly toward opponents all this time. Even as Parker yells at him from the outside that he needs to capitalize on things more, he doesn't do so. In a lot of ways, that's what costs him the match, as Wright uses the lack of bond between manager and client to his own advantage, hitting Brad with a German suplex for the pin while Parker was yelling at him. Yet again, the Colonel is hopping mad - literally!

Winner: Alex Wright

Mean Gene is backstage along with the former Tag Team champions, the Nasty Boys, who take offense to being called the "former" champs. They make it known that they fully intend on getting their titles back tonight, and take them back to Japan with them again to defend them in front of fans who are worthy of members of the KoW. Okerlund bites his tongue instead of telling them off for that, and sends it to Gordon Solie.

Gordon is with the current champions, Harlem Heat. Stevie Ray says that them fruit booties need to check theyself, 'cause the Heat are champs now, and if they can't dig that, they needs ta' get out the way! Booker takes over saying that they fought too long and too hard in their careers to give up on the titles now without a fight, and so fight they will, and them suckas will know the Heat!

Backstage we find the Armstrong Brothers, and they're getting their title read to them by Steve Austin. Austin says that they both lost matches they should have won easily - and they need to step it up, or they could find themselves OUT of the Stable just as fast as they found themselves in! Austin tells them they need to watch this next match, as it's against guys they'd had trouble against, and see how he and Page deal with things!

Stunning Steve Austin & Diamond Dallas Page w/Colonel Robert Parker & Diamond Doll vs. Tex Slazenger & Shanghai Pierce

The match is a good little brawl, but the ending never seems to be in much doubt. Unlike Brad earlier, Austin and Page listen carefully to Parker from the outside, and his extra assistance is enough to easily put them ahead of the two tough Texans. The match ends when Austin hooks Tex in That's a Wrap, and to make sure Pierce doesn't get in the way, Page slips in and drops him with a Diamond Cutter. Tex has no choice but to submit instead of get seriously injured.

Winners: Stunning Steve Austin & Diamond Dallas Page

Austin and Page are high fiving in the ring, going over the top to celebrate their win. From out of the back runs Johnny B. Badd with tape on his forehead and his seemingly new friend, Alex Wright! The two hit the ring and pepper the Stud Stable with punches, and Badd sends Austin out of the ring with a haymaker as Wright knocks Page down with a big dropkick to send him rolling out as well! The two chase the entirety of the Stable out of the arena, getting some revenge for the attack earlier on Badd!

This one was an ugly brawl from guys who can do ugly brawls well. The champions do just as Booker said they would, putting up quite a fight, even moreso than the Nastys were prepared for. But they still had one trick up their sleeve: Jimmy Hart. "The Mouth of the South" ended up playing the biggest role of this match, as he not only kept referee Nick Patrick distracted when he needed to, but then when the Heat set up for the Big Apple Blast, he smashed Booker in the back with his megaphone! Stevie Ray went after him, but he walked right into Knobs. Knobs lifted the big man into a running powerslam, and then Sags came off the top with an elbow drop! The Trip to Nastyville unfortunately spells the end of the match, all on account of Jimmy Hart. Oh no - now the titles have gone back to the KoW!

Hacksaw Jim Duggan is backstage, watching the show, when The Butcher saunters over to him. He tells Duggan that he made the worst mistake of his life by not joining the KoW, and that his best bet is to get out of WCW now before he gets his hands on him at Halloween Havoc. Duggan shakes his head and laughs, saying that the reason he didn't join KoW was because they represent exactly people like Butcher: followers! People who are following Hogan around like lost puppies, trying to cling to anything they used to have in their sad life! Hacksaw says that he only needs three things in his life to know that he's still worth something, and that's the fans, his trusty 2x4, and the flag! And if Butcher doesn't get ouf of here now, he's gonna be much better acquainted with the second one! Butcher scampers off, saying that he'll show Duggan that he's wrong yet!

Sting vs. Bobby Eaton

Very solid match with great back and forth action. Eaton even getting on in years and being more of a tag wrestler anymore is still someone who can go in the ring, and he proves that here by keeping the Stinger on the backfoot for most of the match. He can't keep Sting down for long however, as Sting keeps rising up, fighting back with the power of his "Little Stingers" pushing him on. Eaton eventually gets Sting down, especially after he dodges out of the way of a Stinger Splash! Bobby looks like he wants to go up for the Alabama Jam, and just about this time Steve Keirn gets up on the apron. He's trying to cheer his partner on, but he bumps the ropes, and Eaton crotches himself! Sting gets up and punches Keirn down, then superplexes Bobby to the mat, before locking in the Scorpion Deathlock! Eaton struggles for only a few seconds before signalling his submission!

The crowd are still so caught up in the last match, that they're not as into the next interview as they should be, as Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, and Dustin Rhodes stand with Mean Gene. Flair does pretty much all the talking, saying that never, never, never in his entire career did he imagine that there would be a day when he stands next to not only his best friend, not only a Rhodes, but also with one of his greatest enemies, as they are set to go do battle against another force. Flair says that he wishes the best of luck to Steamboat at Havoc, he hopes he can do what Flair couldn't in bringing the title back home to WCW. He says that if he beats Piper, and Steamboat beats Hogan, then maybe they can shut this whole thing down fast. He says also that hopefully when Arn and Dustin beat the Nastys at Havoc, tough luck for Harlem Heat, but then they can get a title shot and bring those belts back as well.

Rating: C

A big reason for such a poor rating was the crowd, and also Flair did some horrible improvising. In case you were wondering.

Kings of Wrestling (Hollywood Hogan, "Hot Rod" Roddy Piper, The Butcher, Meng) w/ The Queen & Jimmy Hart vs. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson, "The Natural" Dustin Rhodes, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat

There is no doubt the massive levels of star power involved in this match, and the crowd were on the edge of their seats for the whole thing. The match starts out calmly enough, but everyone can easily see that Randy Anderson is going to have his work cut out for him. Arn Anderson starts out with The Butcher, and the two put on a nice little match which brings the crowd to their feet to see more. Butcher tags out to Meng, and the strategy is clear: keep Hogan and Piper safe at all costs. The bodyguard gets a surprise though when Arn tags out to Dustin Rhodes! Dustin has stood up to him plenty of times, and this is no different as Rhodes takes it right to his long time enemy, as Tony notes that Dustin still doesn't know what was up with Meng. Bobby says that Meng has backed off of Dustin in recent weeks, speculating that maybe he was ordered away from Dustin. The brawl between the two brings in the rest of the team members from both sides, and it's a pier-six brawl! Everyone is going at it in the ring, all but Hogan - the WCW crew send the others out, and they all urge Hogan to enter the ring!

He doesn't do so, but after a quick meeting of the minds, the KoW take advantage and work over "The Natural". Hogan finally enters the ring briefly, clawing Dustin's back with his fingernails as Dusty screams on the outside that they need to let his boy tag out! Dustin does eventually make the tag, but Steamboat also gets overrun, and they all take turns on him as well. Flair struts on the apron, anxious to get into the match as soon as possible! The crowd start to actively chant "We want Flair!" Steamboat struggles against Roddy Piper, as Piper has him in the corner and is punching away, making use of his boxing background. Piper sends Steamboat toward the other side of the ring and charges after, but "The Dragon" jumps up on the second rope and leaps back, hitting a flying bodyblock! Steamboat crawls to his corner, and just as Piper tags the Butcher back in, Steamboat tags in Flair! Flair comes in and chops away, and in runs Meng as well - he takes them as well! Meng hits a headbutt to Flair, and that brings in the rest of the men as Randy Anderson loses all control of this match! Meng and Dustin tumble out of the ring, as Arn and Piper brawl in the corner! Hogan sneaks in and hits Flair from behind, giving he and Butcher the advantage. But the crowd comes alive in loud cheers when Hogan gets taken down by a flying crossbody from "The Dragon"! Tony screams how if that happens at Halloween Havoc, we could see a new champion crowned! Butcher locks Flair in the sleeper, but Flair blocks it, hitting a kneebreaker and twisting into the figure four leglock! Butcher cries for help, but nobody can get to him - he submits! A huge win for WCW - but will it go that way at Halloween Havoc?

Winners: Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Arn Anderson, and Dustin Rhodes

After our final commercial break, Sting makes his way back out to the ring, which has been set up with a table and the contract for the match at Halloween Havoc. Nick Bockwinkel is there as well, then Vader and Sonny Onoo come out to the ring and the two men sit on either side of the contract as the commissioner stands at the side to oversee them. Bockwinkel says that against his will, he's putting this on contract: all the two men need to do is sign the contract, and they will get their street fight at Halloween Havoc.

Onoo snatches the contract up from the table quickly, reading it over "for any errors" feeling that as a fellow American, Bockwinkel may try to help Sting out by putting extra rules in the contract! Bockwinkel says that there is no need to be rude, but tells Onoo to go ahead and glance over it. As he does, Vader growls and snarls at Sting, rubbing his hands together menacingly. Sting asks for the microphone, and when granted, he says that Sonny-boy can look it over all he wants, he won't find anything fishy; Sting only wants to beat Vader up, and he doesn't need any special treatment to do that! Onoo laughs, saying that there is no way he can defeat "his Vader; Japanese icon, American star, and all-around monster!" Sting says that he's slain the monster before, and at Havoc, it'll be the same over again. Sting slides the contract away from Vader and Onoo as soon as he sets it on the table and immediately signs it, saying he doesn't care what's in it, he just wants his hands on the big monster! Sting gets up and starts playing to the crowd, but Vader attacks! He assaults Sting from behind, and Onoo grabs the contract up before Vader - as Nick Bockwinkel shouts at him - powerbombs Sting through the table! Tony screams at how he may have just destroyed the man, as Sting is not moving! Bockwinkel starts motioning for security and EMTs to come out, as Vader signs the contract and says to Sting that even if he's hurt, this contract is legally binding; he must appear at Halloween Havoc in the street fight now, even if he can't walk! The show goes off the air as Vader and Onoo leave the ring, and the camera stays on Sting's fallen, broken body.

WCW Hotline: October 1994, Week 4

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWHotline.jpg

WCW Hotline; October 1994, Week 4

Press 1 for WCW Halloween Havoc '94 control center!

Press 2 for an update on Sting's condition!

Press 4 for WCW Saturday Night preview!

Press 5 for last week's ratings breakdown!

Press 8 for WWF Monday Night Raw results!

Press 9 for a special gift from the WCW Catalog!

Option 1: WCW Halloween Havoc control center!

The card for Halloween Havoc is shaping up as the show nears, as we've added a tag team match between the Sullivans against Cactus Jack and a mystery partner; the Heavenly Bodies against the Rock 'n Roll Express; and it's official now, a Halloween Street Fight between the huge monster Vader against Sting! We're only one week away, so call your local cable providers and order now!

Option 2: An update on Sting's condition!

Last week, Sting was given a vicious Vaderbomb through a table in the ring! Fortunately Sting is said to be able to fight by Halloween Havoc, though he is taking it easy on this week's WCW Saturday Night by not having a match.

Option 4: WCW Saturday Night preview!

The time is finally upon us: Jesse Ventura hosts a special edition of The Body Shop with guests Sting, Hollywood Hogan, and Flyin' Brian! Brian has said that he's going to explain his actions as of late, and you will have to be on hand to watch that!

Speaking of Sting, last week he was assaulted by the monster Vader! Because of this, Sting will not be in action, but Nick Bockwinkel has said that he was furious at the attack, and so this week he's signed a huge main event to punish the monster - Vader faces off with "Nature Boy" Ric Flair! But Flair will surely be weakened after such a match so soon before Halloween Havoc, so will Vader's punishment become the KoW's gain?

"The Natural" Dustin Rhodes is being granted a championship match against United States champion Stunning Steve Austin! Austin set up the match deliberately this way in order to anger Johnny B. Badd, as Badd is set to get a title match at Havoc. But will Rhodes get the win and the title before Badd gets his shot?

After a fight backstage last week, a battle of the unpredictable brawlers takes place as Cactus Jack faces off with Terry Funk! Each of these men can fight to their last breath, but which one will breathe last this week? In related news, the Sullivans get their US Tag Team title shot against the Rock 'n Roll Express! Will there be new champions? And will Cactus Jack reveal his mystery partner?

All this and much more, only at 6:05PM ET on The Superstation!

Option 5: Last week's ratings!

WCW Saturday Night, only a 7.29? You people must have all went trick-or-treating early! Well you missed a great show! Know who watched it though? The Europeans. Saturday Night on DSF went up to a 0.05 instead of only 0.03. WCW Main Event had a 0.62, again a point up from the norm. Raw? They drew a 5.67, their lowest since moving Raw to two hours.

Option 8: What you're not missing on Monday night!

Trick or treat? Nope, just Jeff Jarrett on the October week 4 taping, as he defeats Razor Ramon in the main event. In the undercard was Tatanka beating Diesel; good one, guys, have the giant monster truck get run over by the horse rider.

Option 9: A special gift from the WCW Catalog!

Call the WCW Catalog with extension #345 to get a special deal on a WCW tote bag!

While I'm here, just wanted to note that progress is good for this show already, as I'm working on it well. I've made a small change, as now anytime there's a major PPV, I'm moving the Main Event taping to take place live right before it instead of right before Saturday Night that week. Main Event will be posted along with the PPV itself then, in a short short short recap, as it will mostly be used to hype the PPV that week with videos, interviews, and matches that are just to get wrestlers out there for the crowd.</p>
