HGC THE WAR TO SETTLE THE SCORE '98

This Sunday, Live at the Manhattan Centre in the heart of New York City, things come to a head when Hollyweird presents The War to Settle the Score.

The Ontario Kings are set to defend the World Tag-Team Championship in our opening bout, although they're still in the dark about half the challenges. Jack Dundee will be bringing in a yet-to-be-announced partner for his rematch, and the former champion is hungry to regain the gold.

Romeo Heartthrob and The Masked Rebel have been at each other's throats for months now, launching sneak attacks and verbal jabs at one another between their in-ring clashes. Now they're set to face each other in one final battle, as decreed by the HGC Commissioner, and only one man will walk away the winner.

He's survived them both individually, but with Sam Strong in control of his career for another four weeks, Dusty Streets finds himself facing two-on-one odds when he squares off against both members of Team Strength Rush in a handicap match.

A three-man elimination match follows as another three men who have been at each-other's throats step into the ring to settle things. Both Richie Pangrazzio Jr and Eddie Chandler are looking to be the one who puts away Chris Storm, while the protégé of the All-Star Team will be looking for a victory over both his nemesis.

He's the veteran whose been targeted by Barstow Enterprise' to get Mike Barstow's clients over, but Captain USA has found some young talent of his own to watch his back. It'll be Team USA versus all three members of Barstow Enterprise's clients in a six-man war.

Not all wars are based on fisticuffs and bloodshed. Eric Tyler has long wanted to test his abilities against a member of the fabled Stone wrestling family, and now he gets the chance when he squares off against the globe-trotting Duane Stone. Fans of technical wrestling have been eager to see this bout since the Stone scion arrived in the company, and now it comes to fruition.

Awesome Thunder isn't the man that Mr Lucha expected to be facing tonight, and the last time the two met in a Hollyweird ring the masked ninja took the International Champion to his limits. Mr Lucha has worn the International Championship with pride for nine months now, taking on all comers; will this be his final night with the title?

There's plenty of grudges going into our next match, even without the possibility of the victor being announced as the number one contender to the World Heavyweight Title. Dread and Monty Walker have waged a war across HGC for over a year, while Liberty is one of the few men on the roster who can join Walker in saying he's defeated the Human Juggernaut in single's competition.

Then there's our main event. Larry Vessey isn't a man to let an injury keep him away from a World Heavyweight Title match, and his bouts with members of the Untouchables have shown that he's more than capable of holding his own while his wrist is in a cast. Rip Chord has shown the challenger a great deal of respect, but promises that he'll stop at nothing in order to protect his title.

Sunday, Week 4, February 1998

Manhattan National Centre (Tri-State) - 30,000 people (Sold Out!)

The second War to Settle the Score kicks off with Jack Dundee in the ring, dressed in his wrestling tights, microphone in hand. "Tonight I'm out here to get back the World Tag-Team titles," he says, "and with my regular partner's missing, we've recruited a in-ring competitor to join me in beating the shit out of the Kings. You can thank Eric's lawyers for this one, folks, 'cause I give you my partner..."

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/GraceHarper.jpg

Garbage's Vow hits the speakers, and Grace Harper steps onto the main stage, dressed to compete without her usual make-up and feather boa. She shakes hands with Dundee, and together they head for the ring.

The Ontario Kings vs. Dundee & Harper

Jason Azaria earns his money in this one, answering all of Kyle Rhodes objections about a women being in the ring with a carefully researched speil explaining Harper's history as an in-ring competitor. He runs through her training, her early days in Canada, her rise in the CGC women's divisions...plus the number of times she's taken men out with her fisherman's suplex at ringside.

More importantly, he explains the Stones training regime, where Victoria Stone was treated just like one of the boys. In the House of Stone Dojo, you're either a competitor or you're not, which explains why the Kings barely miss a beat when faced with the prospect of hitting a women.

The combination of Dundee and Harper is good, but they're not yet a team. Not the way Tyler and Dundee are, and certainly not the way the Ontario Kings are. That teamwork proves to be the deciding factor, with Dundee falling prey to the King Breaker high/low.

A champagne bottle pops and a glass is filled, the camera pulling back to reveal Romeo Heartthrob feasting on a strawberry. He chews, swallows, smiles at the camera. "I propose a toast," he says, "to whoever it is that exists beneath the Masked Rebel's mask. Today isn't the last day of your career, my friend, but it's going to be close. First, I pin you in falls count anywhere.

"Then, the next time we meet, I come and take your mask.

The camera cuts to a room backstage, the Masked Rebel working out at the weight bench. "I'm trying to remember how it all started," he says. "I beat Heartthrob. That's all I got. Wrestlers beat other wrestlers ever day, particularly at the level we compete on, but Heartthrob snapped. He started a war, tried to choke me out here on this bench, keeps threatening to take my mask.

"And now we're going out there to beat the hell out of each other. Nowhere Heartthrob can run to where the match is going to end. Falls count anywhere, just the way I like it. We keep fighting until someone stays down."

Masked Rebel II vs. Romeo Heartthrob

It's not the greatest match, although the stipulation goes a long way towards hiding Heartthrob's slowing performance and the limitations of Rebel's move-set. It opens with an exchange of chops where Rebel comes out on top, leading to a sequence where Heartthrob stalls at ringisde in an attempt to get a breather.

Rebel isn't willing to give him - he slides out of the ring and continues the assault, forcing the fight over the guard rails, and it isn't long before Eugene Williams is following the pair into the stalls. It earns a slightly more passionate response from the live crowd than it does from the pay-per-view audience, but even then the response is lackluster.

Rebel wins it when he nails Heartthrob with an atomic elbow when they're brawling in the stands, finishing him off with a double leg drop off one of the HGC merchandise stands.

Backstage, where Dusty Streets is standing by on the interview stage. "For the last two weeks, I've been hearing the same question a lot. Why sign that contract? Why give Strong that much power over my career? Honestly, after Tuesday night, I asked myself the same question. Raymond Diaz kicks like a mule, and the bruises on my ribs meant it hurt to breathe.

"But this is how life works, when you make your living wrestling. You figure out what you want, then you go out there and fight for it. I want Strong in the ring. Want it bad enough to risk my career, especially if all the other terms are mine to decide.

"And people keep telling me I can't trust Strong, that whatever he's got planned is going to have a loophole. Me, I already know that. I've known Sam Strong a hell of a long time, and I knew the real man behind the legend a hell of a lot longer than most.

"But I also know Frankie Future and I know what matters most to him - he wants this match to happen. He wants it to happen at Hollyweird. And he wants the money it generates.

"Whatever lawyers he had go over that contract, scouring the damn thing for loopholes, I'm damn well sure they were the best you can buy."

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/SamStrong.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/SuzueKatayama.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/RaymondDiaz.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/LeeWright.jpg

Sam Strong walks onto the stage, the Strength Rush with him. Raymond Diaz elbows his way into Streets's post on the stage, grinning as the veteran winces.

"You think you know about pain, Streets? We're barely getting started." Strong pauses a moment, offering a thin smile to the camera. "Tonight you're going out there in a handicap match against both members of the Strength Rush, and I guarantee you're going to be hurting once it's done.

"On the plus side, Streets, at least you get the pay-per-view bonus. Come Hollyweird, when I win your contract and terminate it, you're going to be glad of that, brother. You're going to be really damn glad..."

This is more mugging than a match. Streets fights back, trying to his own, but with two men as dangerous and practiced in tag-team competition as the Strength Rush, even a veteran like Dusty is out of his depths. The weight of numbers quickly becomes to much for him, leading to Raymond Diaz hitting the Ray Gun.

"This is Action Jackson backstage, getting you the scoops, and right now I'm outside the locker room of the Global Elite. Lets see if they're in."

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/GraceHarper.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/BooSmithson.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/EddieChandler.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/EricTyler.jpg

Jackson knocks, and the door is opened by Grace Harper. Over her shoulder we get a quick glimpse of the locker room: Jack Dundee seated, towel around his shoulder, face in his hands; Eddie Chandler talking to him, ostensibly comforting him if you don't pay attention to the smirk; Eric Tyler warming up, his face set, throw fists and elbows.

Harper steps out of the room and closes the door behind her. "What do you want?"

"I wanted..." Jackson looks her over, changes course in midstream. "Well, since you're available, can I ask about your inclusion in tonight's tag-team title match? Was your presence a deliberate attempt to try and get inside the Ontario King's heads or were you hoping..."

Jackson trails off, noting the cold stare his question is receiving. "We needed a forth wrestler," Harper says. "And I'm not in the Elite because they needed a manager. I've wrestled Stones. I know their game-plan. I know how to fight."

"But--"

Harper's heard enough. She knee's Jackson in the stomach, then dumps him on his head with the Fisherman's Suplex.

In the aftermath, she collects the microphone. "I'm a wrestler, Jackson. I'm part of the Elite. If this company won't give me opportunities based on my gender...well, I'll just take them. That's how we do it."

A solid contest, full of unresolved grudges, although Eddie Chandler is forced to work hard and remind people he's relevant within the context of this feud.

He sets out to prove he's up to the challenger: first there are chops, then there's the strut, then there's a sequence where he traps Pangrazzio Jr in the Fabulous Stretch, with Wanda Fish forced to intervene in order to save her client. Strong offense that finally ends seven minutes in, when Chris Storm nails Chandler with a belly-to-belly suplex, making the cover and securing the first elimination.

First Elimination: Eddie Chandler

The rest of the match is an stiff, amateur-style clash between Pangrazzio and Storm, pitting the veteran's experience against the younger wrestler's power. Things rarely get off the mat from that point, and when they do it's usually just for a rapid exchange of strikes.

The match evolves into a game of hold and counter, typically one of Storm's strengths, but this time around he finds himself caught when Pangrazzio grabs a small package and secures the three-count.

Victory isn't enough for Pangrazzio Junior. He releases the hold, drags Storm back to his feet, then hits the Wrist-Clutch Exploder. Storm sells it like he's dead, inert on the ring, and Pangrazzio goes over to the ropes, heaping abuse on his father as the Coach looks on in horror.

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/BryanVessey.jpg

Pangrazzio Jr. calls for a DDT, turning back to his victim, but he finds himself face-to-face with Bryan Vessey and the baseball bat.

"Fish!" Pangrazzio shouts. "Get the Untouchables."

Vessey shakes his head. The Untouchable's aren't coming. He fires the bat into Pangrazzio's stomach, dropping the weapon and hitting the Vessey Driver, leaving Pangrazzio prone on the mat as Chris Storm struggles to rise.

Tonight I team with a couple of guys who have been looking for a shot - talented wrestlers, great wrestlers, who just want a break in this industry. Team USA vs. Barstow Enterprise w/Cheatin' Mike Barstow

There's a lot of unknowns in this one - the most over wrestler, all things considered, is standing at ringside - which means it relies heavily on the fast tags and the in-ring ability of the competitors to keep the fans interested.

Despite all this, it has it's moments: Mr America's twisting springboard legdrop on Nathan Coleman gets a significant pop; Troy Tornado's response, a Star Maker where he clears almost the full length of the ring to break up Cox's Immortal Driver attempt on Stuart Ferdinand, is one for the high-light reels as well.

For the most, though, it's a chaotic ground battle that's eventually finished when Mike Barstow hits a low blow on Mr America through the ropes, setting him up for Stuart Ferdinand's Fisherman's Suplex.

The Silver Screen goes live, featuring a long-shot of Ethan Kane and Karen Killer in conversation down in the loading dock, amid the crates and packing equipment used to transport HGC's sets. The Demons of Rage are beside them, on the lookout for trouble.

The Camera zooms in, close enough to hear the conversation.

"...set him on fire," Kane says. "That he's walking bothers me. That he's back here, looking for an opportunity to rip off my head, goes a little further than that."

"We're supposed to be beyond fear, beloved."

Kane's hand shoots out, grabbing Karen Killer around the throat. His voice drops to a low whisper. "This isn't fear, Karen. This is caution. I would ask you to remember that."

The rasping, hollow laughter of Vengeance drifts through the air. Kane lets go of Killer and starts casting out, trying to figure out where it's coming from. One of the Demons, Anger, lifts a tire iron, waiting for trouble.

"Caution, Dark Father?" Vengeance appears on top of a nearby pile of crates, emerging from the shadows. "Now is not a time for caution. Caution is for men who have not sinned as you have sinned. Caution is for little boys who think better of playing with fire. Caution is for those who have not consigned others to be burned alive.

"It's too late for caution, Dark Father. Now is a time for fear."

Kane snarls and the Demons of Rage charge towards the big crate Vengeance is using as a stage.

We go backstage, to the area set aside for interviews, and Rip Chord is standing by along with the Dallas Wrecking Crew.

"The first time I met Larry Vessey," Chord says, "I remember thinking, well, he ain't so tough. He's big, but I've fought big men. He's tough, but I've seen tough up close time and again, and there's no man so tough you can't break him given time. Strong, yes, but this is wrestling. Strong isn't exactly a rare commodity, so you learn to deal with strength when you meet an opponent who has it.

"When he started out, Vessey was just like any other rookie, one of the dozens who found their way Texas every year.

"Let me tell you how many rookies who started that year have lasted as long as Vessey has..." Chord held up his hand, fingers shaped into a zero.

"It's not the first impression a man makes you should worry about, especially in wrestling. First impressions will fool you, will let you grow overconfident and give advantages you shouldn't. Vessey's out there with a broken hand, and that's good news for me, but it's only useful if I'm the kind of man whose willing to cripple a man in order to retain a title.

"Larry, I want you to know, I'll do that if I have to.

"I know how dangerous you are brother, which is why I'll go to town on that injury if you step into the ring tonight. I'll do it because I have to, because I've watched you rise through the ranks over the last twenty years, and I know exactly how tough...how strong...how goddamn dangerous you can be."

Duane Stone vs. Eric Tyler

The match opens with the two men circling one another, testing defenses and backing away, getting a feel for exactly how good their opponent really is. When they finally lock up - about two minutes in - they explode into a series of holds and counters, jockeying for position and leverage. It ends, three minutes later, when Stone gets behind Tyler and hammers home a Belly-to-Back suplex that's just a little too close to the ropes.

Tyler applauds the initial takedown as the two men circle once more, but this time the veteran starts things off with a thumb to the eye, making it easier to get his opponent to the mat. The minutes that follow are some of the dirties wrestling HGC has ever seen outside of a Rip Chord title match. He tries to get Stone on the mat, but the younger wrestler always has an escape, showing a mastery of mat grappling that's equal to Tyler's own.

A spinebuster from Stone turns the momentum of the match, leading into a final sequence where both men start searching for submission holds to end things. Hold and escape, hold and escape becomes a familiar pattern, alternating set-ups for the Alabaster Agony and the Tradition Lift.

Then, abruptly, Stone changes the pattern. Tyler goes for the Tradition Lift and Stone drops through his grip, quickly rolling an off-balance Tyler up for the three-count.

Mr Lucha vs. Awesome Thunder

Awesome Thunder comes into this match with a game plan, hammering kicks at Lucha's left knee, trying to take it out of commission. It's a sound strategy, one that Nero explains thoroughly on commentary, highlighting the fact that Thunder's mat game is respectable despite being best-known for his high-flying arsenal.

The problem is one of experience - Lucha is nineteen year veteran whose used to defending himself against attacks on the lower extremities, which means he's quick to dodge and evade. He uses Thunder's focus against him, leaping over a roundhouse kick to the knee and snapping off a quick rana to secure the first pinfall at the six minute mark.

The next exchange sees Thunder shift gears, wrestling a little more defensively now that he's a match down. He lands a big kick to the ribs eight minutes in, hitting with enough force to send Lucha staggering sideways, and the rest of the match revolves around him capitalising on that.

Once again, the two men build their way to the series of high-risk moves, bringing the crowd to their feet as they go to the top rope time and again. Thunder gets four near-falls before the match is over, but ultimately he comes up short when Lucha hits the Master Drop to get the second straight fall.

The All-Star Team are in their locker room, where the Coach is checking Chris Storm's neck after the assault earlier in the show. Bryan Vessey stands nearby, baseball bat over one shoulder, and Larry Vessey is taping up his left wrist in preparation for the World Title Match. It's a slow process, hampered by the cast on his right wrist.

"It's going to hurt like hell tomorrow," Coach says, "but you'll live to fight another day. Hit the showers, take it easy for a day. Get ready to work like hell when we hit the work-out Tuesday morning.

"Now, as for you..." Coach turns towards Larry, who looks up from his wrist tape. "I'm not going to tell you how important tonight is, Vessey. You know what you're doing out there. A series of pre-taped interviews play on the silver screen, recorded earlier today in the lead-up to The War to Settle the Score. I may be the man without fear, but I know what's happening out there. Dread, he's a dangerous man. Liberty tries to play it down, to pretend he's here for a good time, but he's good. Real good. Good enough to be a champion.

"Me, I'm just the rookie kid, but I'm the rookie kid who grew up fast. Dread and Emma made sure of that.

A cut takes us to Liberty's locker room, where the American Outlaw is bouncing on the balls of his feet, warming up for the match. "Yeah," he says, "big night. Not as big as wrestling for the title, maybe, but it's going to be a hell of a show. Maybe I've been a champion before. Maybe I'm one of the few men who can say they've got Chord's number.

"But Dread? Dread's a living Juggernaut, and I ain't ever pinned him without someone else's help. And Monty Walker?

Liberty vs. Monty Walker vs. Dread w/Emma Chase

Jason Azaria spends the opening minutes reminding the fans about the Three Way Fray rules, unpacking the difference between an elimination match and the one-fall to a finish rules. Nero, for his part, unpacks the difference in tactics: while you can always let another man get a pinfall in the elimination match, the Fray rules make every wrestler work and break up potential pinfalls, which means you've got to wipe out everyone in order to make the pin.

Which explains the absolute chaos that reigns in the ring for nearly twenty-straight minutes, particularly when you factor in the speed and flashy showmanship of both Liberty and Monty Walker. They band together in the early stages of the match, double-teaming Dread in an effort to wear down the Juggernaut, but after delivering stereo dropkicks that knock the big man out of the ring, the two faces immediately turn on each other.

The crowd is split when Walker and Liberty start brawling. They're both young, both enormously over, and the cheers seem to be split across age demographics more than anything else. They even share similar approaches to offense, showing a preference for being on the move, unleashing a barrage of running lariats, flying shoulder blocks, axe-handles off the second rope, and dropkicks.

Its only as the match builds that the fans start to notice the real difference in their styles: Liberty builds to big power moves, incorporating slams into his fast-moving style, while Walker starts borrowing from the high-flying playbook of lucha libre and the Japanese Juniors, taking things to the mat and keeping the opponent there before launching a move from the top rope.

It's Liberty who scores the first big move, nailing Walker with a Liberation Slam that gets to a two-count before Dread comes in to break things up. With Walker groggy from the move, Liberty is fair game for the Human Juggernaut, who proceeds to ground and pound with relative impunity. The Juggernaut works hard to keep things on the mat, raining a storm of punches and elbows on the downed Liberty, but the American Outlaw refuses to give up, even when his forehead is split open by the assault.

The match eventually gets back to a vertical base, Liberty and Dread engaging in a war of strikes that gets the crowd roaring. The Juggernaut takes a battering as a partially blinded Liberty starts building up speed, hitting the ropes and unleashing clothesline after clotheslines, and eventually the American Outlaw tries to lift Dread for the Liberation Slam.

Dread already has the counter prepared. He grabs hold of the rope with one hand, uses the other arm to fire stiff elbow shots into Liberty's head, leaving the Outlaw unsteady. Liberty keels sideways, attempts a version of the Slam, but it doesn't land properly. Dread bounces off one shoulder, rolling to ringside on instinct.

Liberty staggers across the ring, finds the ring ropes to steady himself. He casts about, blood in his eyes, not entire sure where he is.

"LAST WALTZ!" Azaria shouts, and Monty Walker is back in the match, catching Liberty with his superkick. The American Outlaw goes down and Walker makes the cover, picking up the three-count and a shot at the World Heavyweight Champion.

Monty Walker stands in the middle of the ring, soaking up the cheers of the crowd. The Man Without Fear looks stunned, as if he can't quite believe that he picked up the victory, but as it soaks in he nods a few times and breaks into a grin.

He reaches down and helps the bloody Liberty back to his feet, raising the American Outlaw's hand. It takes Liberty a few seconds longer than Walker to realise what's going on, but once he does figure out, he immediately applauds the young Walker's efforts and offers him a handshake.

Walker reaches out, offering respect to his opponent.

And Dread crashes into them with a double clothesline, taking both men down. He lets loose a roar of inarticulate anger as he halts his momentum, turning to stomp on Monty Walker a few times before picking up Liberty and hammering him onto Walker with the Dread Bomb.

"The Human Juggernaut isn't happy about the result of that match," Azaria announces, and it's the kind of obvious statement that Professor Nero makes fun of for the next two minutes of commentary as Dread heads back up the ramp.

Larry Vessey vs. Rip Chord

So the news comes through, about midway through the match, that Vessey and Chord aren't the greatest fit in the ring. You'd have to work hard to notice it - they're both veterans, both massively over, and the hot crowd covers a variety of sins - but there's the distinct lack of chemistry when the pair meet up. Little slips in their timing and moments of miscommunication abound, forcing them to adapt on the fly.

Fortunately, the story for this one is simple: Larry Vessey brings everything he can to the ring, and Rip Chord responds by trying to break the challenger's hand. Wrist-based offense abounds, with Vessey frequently responding with raw power, and the Champion finds himself having to cheat extensively after the third or fourth time he's dumped on his skull.

But for all Vessey's power and crowd support, Rip Chord is Rip Chord and he's one of the best wrestlers going. He lures Vessey to the outside, spends some time working the injured wrist against the ring posts, and Vessey never quite comes back from that. When he finally tries the Sick Cycle, Chord blocks the blow with both hands, and the pain is enough to distract Vessey.

One Rip Chord DDT later and the champion has retained his belt.

"Wherever you get a locker room, you get politics." Nero smirks for the camera, leaning his weight against the omnipresent cane. "Some locker rooms encourage it, some downplay it, but it's always there.

"There's nothing wrong with politics - it's part of doing business - so long as it doesn't get in the way of doing business. That works when people trust the booker, trust that there's a vision at work that means everyone's going to earn more money. There aren't many conversations you can't shut down by asking a man if he's earning more than he was last year, so long as he's got his head on straight.

"There are times when you can't rely on that, and that's when things get complicated. That's when you start looking at taking steps to handle things.

"But there's nothing wrong with politics. If you pay attention, it tells you a lot about the locker room, and about the best way to use the talent.

Lee Wright takes off his signature beanie, running his fingers through the stubble on his scalp. "Me and Ray got plenty of heat once we started teaming with Strong, mostly from boys who were tight with Dusty.

"When we actually had to wrestle him, the son-of-a-bitch sandbagged like a ************. Ray was still green enough to get pissed off by that. I didn't really give a shit. Far as I'm concerned, if you're getting in the way, it's up to me to find a way around you.

"In this instance, finding a way around meant teeing off on Streets and letting Raymond do the same."

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/RickyDaleJohnson.jpg

"Usually, when two guys have the kind of heat Dusty and Strong have, they find some way to keep it from getting in the way of doing business. When that doesn't work, well, you hope the booker is smart enough to go do something about it.

"Mike Nero is too smart to let that sort of shit fester. He put them in a situation where they had to prove they could do business the way he needed them too, and he was very clear about the consequences if they hadn't figured out how to do it.

"Dusty makes a lot of noise about getting ignored about HGC. The way I look at it, he was out there working a program with the biggest damn name in the sport. All he had to do was set aside his goddamn hatred for Strong and focus on making money..."

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/HTV.jpg

- Episode 60 Preview -

The count-down to Welcome to Hollyweird begins. It's just four weeks until the biggest night in the HGC year and tensions are running high through many parts of the roster.

The Nation of Filth have come into tonight's episode wanting to make a statement, inviting any two teams to join them in a three-way fray in the opening spot. The challenge has been answered by two teams who have been impressing on the proving ground of late - the lucha duo of Team Chaos Theory and the alliance of West Coast indie sensations Fumihiro Ota & Alex Braun.

Romeo Heartthrob is still smarting from his loss to Masked Rebel II on Sunday, but if he wants to get back on a winning streak he's going to be facing a nearly impossible task - he's drawn a match against the demon seed, Tyson Baine, that's sure to be an epic challenge to the veteran's abilities.

The Tag-Team Specialists have also put out a challenge this week, although the locker room is buzzing with the news that it was Paul Steadyfast who approached Future for the match instead of the Untouchable's usual manager. Oxford and Bryant will be taking on tag-team that holds themselves as the benchmark for the division - ten-time tag-team champions The Blazing Flames.

Sam Strong continues to toy with Dusty Streets, holding off on announcing his opponents until the very last minute required by the HGC committee. This week, Streets will be pitted against a man who knows him very well - his semi-regular tag-team partner, Liberty.

Rip Chord has secured a big match for his proteges, The Dallas Wrecking Crew, that could have some big implications for the tag-team title scene leading into the pay-per-view. Tonight Punisher and Sanders will be taking on the duo of Brent Hill and Tommy Cornell - two of the best young talents wrestling in Hollyweird today.

Lastly, in the main event, there's a grudge match that's going to be tough to control - Bryan Vessey will be stepping into the ring with the man whose been harrying the All-Star team for weeks, the coach's son, Richie Pangrazio Jr. While both men are exceptional grapplers, we'd bet our last dollar on this one is going to break down into an out-and-out fight.

Vessey is a household name even more than Pangrazzio Jr.

Cornell & Hill vs. The Dallas Wrecking Crew

Cornell is going to lay down the law in Dallas.

Dusty Streets vs. Liberty

I think ____ when describing Dusty Streets.

The Blazing Flames vs. The Tag-Team Specialists

The flames have been low on momentum. Will this mark the inevitable split-up of Blazing Flames?

Tyson Baine vs. Romeo Heartthrob

Romeo is squash.

Team Chaos Theory vs. Rapid Fire vs. The Nation of Filth

Filth is a better team, but they've been Jobbers the whole Dynasty. So the question is who do you want to get over... Lucha dynasties are mix-and-match so I'm guessing Rapid Fire rises to the occasion

We go to footage shot in the arena car park, a few hours before the start of the Proving Ground. Paul Steadyfast is lingering beside a black SUV, close to the backstage doors. The Tag-Team Specialists and Wanda Fish are with him, although Fish looks confused. "I don't understand why--"

Steadyfast throws her an irritated glance. "Shhh."

"Where's Richie? We should be--"

This time Steadyfast places a finger against her lips. "Shhh," he says. "We're waiting."

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/CoachDickPangrazzio.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/ChrisStorm.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/BryanVessey.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/LarryVessey.jpg

He gestures across the car park, where the All-Star Team have just parked and started making their way across the ring. Larry Vessey lags behind, having difficulty handling his bags with the broken wrist.

"Go," Steadyfast orders, and the Specialists charge across the lot, crash-tackling Vessey into the side of a nearby car. A brutal two-man beat-down begins, focusing on Vessey's wrist, culminating in a moment where Robert Oxford slams Vessey's injured wrist into a car door.

Vessey starts screaming, clutching at the remnants of his shattered cast, and the Untouchable's mask themselves scarce as the rest of the All-Star Team come charging back to the car park to figure out what's going wrong.

The show kicks off with Paul Steadyfast out in the ring, the Tag-Team Specialists by his side. The young leader of the Untouchable's has the microphone, smirking as a replay of the assault on Vessey fades from the Silver Screen.

"In the words of a great American," Steadyfast says, switching to a nasal voice, mimicking Erkel: "Did I do that?"

He takes a moment to trade smiles with Joel Bryant, although Robert Oxford remains unaffected by the good humour. "For weeks now," Steadyfast says, "we've been letting ourselves be treated like second-class citizens. We followed the advice of our manager, Wanda Fish. We let a stranger into our ranks, let ourselves be embroiled in his personal vendettas. Ostensibly, we did this because it would earn us money.

"We no longer care about money.

"The Untouchable's aren't mercenaries. We're not opposed to doing work for hire, but the money doesn't drive us. We came here, to Hollyweird, in order to be the best. The best tag-team. The best singles wrestler. The best unit in professional wrestling.

"We came here to be Untouchable. It's why we took the name.

"Now bring out Coach Pangrazzio, 'cause I've got something to say to say to the old man."

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/CoachDickPangrazzio.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/ChrisStorm.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/BryanVessey.jpg

Coach emerges from the backstage area, but he doesn't come alone: Bryan Vessey and Chris Storm are both armed with baseball bats, ready to draw blood. Coach makes a point of coming exactly as far as the stage edge, microphone in hand.

"You'll forgive me if I don't come all the way down there, son," Coach says. "After what we've just seen, it's best for all concerned if I keep Storm and Bryan up here, away from temptation. Otherwise someone's going to get their head cracked open, courtesy of Bryan here, and I'm doing all I can to keep him focused on extracting revenge in the ring."

Steadyfast offers a lazy shrug. "You can stand wherever you want, old man, so long as you shut up and listen for once. I want you to understand what's going on here, and I want you to be able to explain it to the meat-heads you call a team.

"As of today, we are formerly dissolving our association with your son, Richie. He wasn't invited to be part of the Untouchables by anyone with the authority to make him a member--" Steadyfast pauses, throwing a glance Fish's way "--and we don't actually give a damn about his vendetta against you and yours. He wants to break you, he's welcome to try, but he does it without our help."

"Bullshit." Chris Storm grabs the mic off the Coach, letting his anger loose. "If you ain't helping Richie, how come Larry's on his way to an emergency room to get x-rays of his wrist? How come--"

"Storm, shut your mouth," Steadyfast says. "Vessey's on his way to the hospital because I WANTED IT THAT WAY."

The young wrestler takes a deep breath, regaining control. "Fish made some choices. We went along with them. That resulted in an unfortunate situation where we became embroiled in the conflict between the All-Star Team and Pangrazzio Jr. Bryan, there, has been calling for Robert Oxford's blood ever since the attack that broke Vessey's wrist.

"We took out Vessey, thinned your numbers, because that's the smart move, and--"

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/RichiePangrazzioJr_zps4c054f98.jpg

Alice in Chain's Grind blares out of the Coliseum speakers and Richie Pangrazzio makes his way down through the crowd, vaulting over the guard rail and rolling under the bottom rope. He walks around the Untouchables, meeting each member's gaze, but the only person who looks away is Wanda Fish.

"So," he says, "alone again." He considers his former allies a moment, attempting to stare down Steadyfast. It doesn't work, and Pangrazzio is the first to blink.

"Fine," he says, "alone. You three were a convenience, not a necessity. I am the Franchise Player. I'm the man who brings home the winner's purse. I am--" Pangrazzio looks towards the stage, where Coach and his team are seething "--the athlete my father trained me to be. What do I care if you're picking them apart for me, or because of me, so long as the All-Star Team goes down."

Pangrazzio backs off a few steps, turning towards the stage. "As for you, Dad, you're one man down now. What's say we thin the heard a little more? I've already proven Chris Storm isn't on the level of the Franchise Player, but there's an open spot in tonight's main event. Bryan seems like he's raring for a fight tonight, and I'm more than happy to give him one.

"I don't need the Untouchables to pull your rag-tag team apart, dad. I can do it single-handedly, and it'll be just as fun."

This one plays out with the kind of chaos the fans have come to expect: fast tags; big double-teams; a bare minimum of mat work and submission holds.

The Fray format plays to the strengths of both Chaos Theory and Rapid Fire, but in this bout the smashmouth approach of the Filth proves to be the most effective course of action. They get one of the most memorable spots of the match when they trap El Bandido in a tree of woe, whipping one-another into the corner to hit a series of big cannonballs.

This effectively takes the Chaos Theory out of the match, leaving the Nation of Filth to target Rapid Fire with the bulk of their offense. Alex Braun falls prey to the Dust Buster to end things.

The Devastator collects a microphone, rolling into the ring to celebrate with his clients. "I spent thirty-five years scaring the piss out of my opponents," he says. "At least four times, in the final year before my retirement, I stood across the ring from some rookie kid and watched the urine stain spread on his tights as he realised what was about to happen.

"I don't get to do that anymore. Part of me--" The Devastator pauses, licks his lips. "Part of me misses it.

"Fear...fear is like a drug. Once you understand it, once you know how it works, you learn to enjoy the taste of it in the air. You live for the moment before the match, the seconds where you stare your opponents in the eye and they know that everything that follows will lead them down a path of pain.

"Blazing Flames, last time we met, the Nation of Filth left you lying in the centre of this ring. I'm sure it hurt. I'm sure it still hurts. Unfortunately for you, it didn't hurt enough. It didn't hurt enough because the two of you are still standing. The two of you are still eager and willing to fight.

"It didn't hurt enough, because you don't year fear the Nation of Filth. You don't wake in the middle of the night sweating and weak because you know what's coming. You still think...you still think you stand a chance of getting through this in once piece.

Sweet Child of Mine begins to play, and Rip Chord comes down to the ring, accompanied by Charlie Thatcher for the first time in over a month. The Champion is wearing his belt, a smirk, and an expensive suit. He gives the crowd a couple of minutes to burn through their dislike of seeing the World Champion in the ring.

"Ordinarily I'd come out here to talk about myself," Chord says, "but at this point, lets be honest, you don't need me to list my achievements. I'm Hollyweird's only two-time champion, the man whose dominated this company from day one, and I am the new golden age of wrestling.

"But I don't work alone.

"I brought my Entourage into this company in order to leave a legacy. When I retire, years from now, my golden age will continue in the men I have hand-picked to take over what I have started. I am leaving professional wrestling a dynasty unlike any that's existed up to this point, and just like every wrestling dynasty, it will be built upon Championship gold.

"For two months, the Dallas Wrecking Crew have been undefeated in tag-team competition. Every week they go out there and--"

Chord's expression sours as he's interrupted by Metallica's Ride the Lightning, the Ontario Kings stepping out onto the main stage with their own belts on prominent display. Thomas Morgan collects a microphone on their to the ring.

"Let me save you some time, Rip, 'cause I think we all know where you're headed with this," Morgan says, "and we don't plan on being the kinds of champions that duck worthy challengers. The Wrecking Crew, they're on a roll right now, so we figured they'd be coming after us before too long. You want a match, you got it. Next week--"

"No," Chord says.

"No?" Morgan's face screws up. "You didn't want to challenge us?"

"Oh, the Wrecking Crew will take a match," Chord says, "but it won't be on television. They'll be taking your titles at Welcome to Hollyweird, as is befitting their status as the best tag-team on the Hollyweird roster. That is how dynasties are built, as your mentors should have taught you, even if they were content to let you coast along on the Stone family reputation.

"But since you're eager for a fight next week, brother, I'm happy to oblige you. I've fought two generations of Stones in my time and they've always given me a hell of a fight; lets see if one of their trainees can live up to the hype."

Tyson Baine collects a microphone, looking towards the backstage area.

"You may notice the absence of Ethan Black out here tonight," Baine says. "Big Mike Murder, too. Amazing what a man will reconsider when you offer to start feeding him his own teeth.

"Now the man who hired 'em to spend a month jumping me backstage has until the count of five to make himself--"

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/CheatinMikeBarstow.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/TroyTornado.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/NathanColeman.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/StuartFerdinand.jpg

Baine's rant is cut off by Pour Some Sugar On Me, and Cheatin' Mike Barstow leads his clients out into the ring. "I'm sorry," Barstow says. "If you were really set on counting to five, I can head backstage and let you build up a head of steam, but I figured we'd be better of skipping your infantile posturing.

"I hired Black Murder, Baine. I heard them to get your attention, and it seems they did their job admirably. They've irritated you, they got under your skin, and now they've got you looking for answers.

"Well, here I am, full of answers for you. All you gotta do is ask."

Baine scowls, surveying all four members of Barstow Enterprises. Finally, he snorts. "Alright," he says. "Not entirely who I expected. Thought you had your sites on the patriot crew, Barstow. Might have been safer for you to keep them there."

Mike Barstow greets that with a lazy shrug. "My sights keep looking upwards, Baine, and that means moving on to the big prey. Right now, you're a big man, in every sense of the word. That makes you worth antagonizing, and then it makes you worth beating, and then it makes you worth beating in the ring.

"Right now we're at step one. I recommend you enjoy it while it lasts."

The well-dressed manager surrenders his microphone, heading back up the ramp. Tyson Baine just watches him go, processing what he's just learned.

Wanda Fish comes storming in, her clip-board clutched under one arm. She makes a beeline for Steadyfast. "What the hell are you thinking?"

"Me? Many things. You'd be surprised at my ability to multitask."

"Breaking with Richie, I can understand that. Picking a fight with the All-Star Team--"

"We'd already picked that fight," Steadyfast says. "You picked it, Fish, and we were stuck in a situation none of us wanted to be in. Pangrazzio Junior is unstable. Panggrazzio Senior presides over a stable full of dangerous men who are out for blood. None of this gets us what we want, so we did what was necessary. We stepped up. We took Larry Vessey out. We reminded people what Untouchable means."

"Dammit, Paul, I had a plan."

"I know. I read it." Pangrazzio produces a pile of paper. "It wasn't bad, Fish, but it had its flaws. I've corrected those, brought it in line with our vision for our careers."

He drops the paperwork on Fish's clipboards.

"Look it over. Think things through. Let me know if you still want to be involved. I think you and I could work well together, Fish, but you need to understand who I am.

"If you don't, well, go spend your time with Pangrazzio Junior, and hope you don't get pulled into the chaos as he crashes and burns.

This is text-book tag-team wrestling, with the Flames playing the underdogs while the Specialists grind the high-flyers down with holds and a targeted assault on the neck. It makes for a hard-fought match, one that gets the crowd's attention despite the recent fortunes of both teams, and it gets even hotter when the ref intercepts Fish's attempt to pass Oxford the loaded kneepad.

With the kneepad out of play, the Flame put their foot on the accelerator, making a fiery come-back that sees them hammering Robert Oxford with dropkicks and corkscrew elbow shots. The Specialists are on the verge of being overwhelmed when Paul Steadyfast gets involved, nailing Teddy Flame with a shot to the kidney as the veteran hits the ropes.

Flame staggers, gets caught with a One Shot Drop by Bryant, who then tags in Robert Oxford to finish things with a kneedrop from the top rope.

We go backstage, where Frankie Future's office has been invaded by Eric Tyler. Future looks up from his desk, calm in the face of Tyler's cold fury. "Eric, bud, you seem irritated."

Tyler helps himself to a seat, folding his arms. "You're a perceptive man."

"It's my job, Eric. Just like yours is going out there and wrestling."

Tyler smirks. "I take it by the fine levied against me that you aren't happy with the way I do my job?"

"I've got Duane Stone on the injured list after you choked him out on Sunday," Future says. "Yeah, Eric, I could have some problems with that. I'd be doing a lot worse than levying a fine, but honestly, I think Duane Stone has his own plans for getting payback. I've seen what happens when someone pisses off his old man. I'm looking forward to seeing how Duane handles things."

"He's a Stone," Tyler shrugs, and stands. "He'll try and handle it in the ring. You should be thanking me for making sure he's willing to step into the ring again."

"Somehow, bud, I don't think that was ever going to be a problem," Future says. "Never met a Stone who backed down from a fight, and I doubt Duane is going to be the first."

"Great," Tyler says, checking his nails. "So when's my rematch?"

Future straightens, face growing stern. "When Stone asks for it," he says, "and when I'm satisfied he's going into it with his head on straight.

"Don't try to bulls--t me, Eric. You did what you did 'cause you're a son-of-a-bitch, and you don't like finding out that someone younger than you might actually be better. I get that, man. Can't have been easy to find out you're only the second-best wrestler to come out of Canada.

"But I want to make this very clear: I am not rewarding you for being a son-of-a-bitch. You don't get to rush Stone back into the ring, just 'cause he's eager for a fight. I know you, Eric. I know where you're coming from. Levying a fine isn't punishing you - you just write it off as the cost of doing business.

"You get your match when Stone wants it, and when I feel like approving it. Making you wait is the best way of getting under your skin."

Tyler thinks about that for a moment, his face calm. Then he nods, rising out of the chair. "You're right," he says, "waiting is a punishment.

"But when you break, Future - and you will break, 'cause you know how much this rematch is worth and you're not an idiot - it'll just make my inevitable victory that little bit sweeter."

Dusty Streets is out in the ring, crouched low and staring back up the ramp. The veteran wrestler is dressed to compete, but his ribs are taped up and he's looking a little worse for wear, even if he's trying not to show it.

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/SamStrong.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/SuzueKatayama.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/LeeWright.jpghttp://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/RaymondDiaz.jpg

Voodoo Child hits and Sam Strong comes out onto the stage, Team Strength Rush on his heels. There is visible look of relief on Streets' face when he sees that none of them are dressed to compete, although Jason Azaria is quick to point out that there are men on the roster as dangerous as the Strength Rush.

"Well, Dusty," Strong says, "it seems we've reached that time again, brother. Just four matches to go before you and I mix it up. Now I thought real hard about putting you in the ring with Raymond Diaz again tonight, but that just seemed cruel.

"Besides, I'm pretty sure you'd break a few ribs if Diaz worked them over again, and Future's made it very clear he wants you in one piece when Welcome to Hollyweird comes around.

"So I decided to go easy on you this evening, brother. Tonight's opponent isn't coming in there to hurt you, but he's guaranteed to give you a hell of a fight. Thing is, he's young, he's hungry, and he's better than you on your best day, let alone your bad ones.

"It'd be unfair, brother, to make you fight him under ordinary circumstances, which is why I'm going to make it easy on you.

"Tonight, Dusty, I'm going to make this match No Disqualification, just to give you a fighting chance. Hell, if you win this one, I'll even think about giving you a week to recover before I set someone on your ass again.

"Now if you'll excuse me, it's time for the Living Legend to vacate the ring, 'cause I'm not legally allowed to share the squared circle with this man for another couple of months.

"Dusty, I give you your opponent for this evening...

Dusty Streets vs. Liberty

No-one is particularly happy about this one. Not Dusty. Not Liberty. Not the fans. The occasional tag-team partners circle for a while, tentative about locking up, but as Sam Strong is quick to point out on commentary, both men are competitors and friendship isn't going to stop either from trying to pick up the win.

The match barely has time to get out of first gear Lee Wright enters the ring, making full use of the No Disqualification stipulation to start chopping the hell out of Streets. As Liberty plays to the crowd, celebrating his victory, Emma Chase and the Human Juggernaut appear at the top of the ramp. Chase whispers something to his client, trying to hold him back, but Dread shrugs her off and advances down the ramp.

Liberty sees the big man coming, but the American Outlaw doesn't back down and settles back to wait for Dread in the middle of the ring. The distance between the two closes, and Liberty doesn't wait for the attack to begin - he hits a baseball slide through the ropes as Dread lumbers into range.

The American Outlaw is full of fire, throwing right hands at the Juggernaut. He forces Dread back against the guard rails, the crowd roaring with each punch.

Then Dread blocks the next punch, clinches tight, and uses his power to reverse their positions. Liberty finds himself up against the guard rail, but not for long. Dread's first punch stuns the Outlaw, giving the Juggernaut time to get a run up and smash Liberty over the guard rail with a running forearm.

Dread looks at his handiwork, pressing a thumb against his nose to check for blood after taking Liberty's shots to the face. Finding nothing, he nods with satisfaction, heading backstage as the show goes to a commercial break.

We go backstage, to a corridor outside the trainers room, where Chris Storm and Bryan Vessey have just cornered Coach Pangrazzio as he emerges. It seems neither man has let go of their baseball bat yet, after what happened to Larry Vessey earlier in the eveining.

"Coach," Chris says. "How is he?"

The Coach takes a deep breath. "Not good. The wrist was already hurting after his match with Chord. Now, with the additional trauma..." He shakes his head. "He's looking at a steel pin in his wrist, a couple of months out of action while he heals and rehabs. Not complaining about it, 'cause that's not Larry's way, but--"

He's cut off by an irate Bryan Vessey swinging his baseball bat against the wall, leaving a sizable dent.

"THIS IS CRAP!" Vessey shouts, throwing the bat down the hallway. "We were meant to be throwing a forearm, Coach. Do you remember saying that? We were meant to be showing them we wouldn't take their s--t.

"How is this not taking their s--t, Coach? Give me a goddamn answer?"

Bryan stares at the Coach, waiting for the answer. The Coach doesn't have one.

With three submissions specialists in the match, it's hardly a surprise that a lot of the action takes place on the mat, ensuring that the stretches where the Punisher unleashes his arsenal of hard-hitting power moves serves as a big change of pace.

Cornell and Hill are clearly the better wrestlers here, but they haven't yet got the fluidity that years as a tag-team develops, which means they frequently fall prey to the Wrecking Crew's attempts to draw the illegal man into the ring.

With the referee distracted, it's a simple matter for the Wrecking Crew to cheat and double-team Tommy Cornell, setting him up for Rick Sander's Figure Four Leglock that ultimately finishes the match.

Frankie Future sits behind his desk, feet propped up next to the monitor. Cowboy Ricky Dale sits in one of visitor's seats, brow furrowed, appearing without Dark EAGLE for the first time in months. The Cowboy is already in full flight. "...damn Demon's tried to break the man's back, Future. I ain't holding with that," Ricky Dale says. "As it is, EAGLE's out of commission for a stretch, which means I aim to start misbehaving if you don't give me what I want."

"Ricky, I'm not saying you can't have a match," Future says. "In fact, if you let me get a word in edgewise, I'm telling you you'll have your match next week. I've got another man out here, looking to settle a beef with the Demons, and the way I see it--"

The camera pulls back, revealing Vengeance standing at the rear of the room, watching proceedings with a passive expression. "Shoot," Ricky Dale says. "How long has he been standing there?"

"About ten minutes before you started your tirade," Future says. "I was in the middle of telling him I'm not authorizing him to go pick a fight on his own, and he was in the middle of telling me all the bad things that would happen if I continued to defy him.

We cut to the ring, where Monty Walker is standing by with a microphone and a crowd that's roaring loud enough that even the mic isn't enough to project his voice. Walker tries twice, gives up, smiles to himself as he lets the people burn themselves out.

"A year ago," he says, "I stood out in this ring, and I picked a fight with an unstoppable monster. I did it 'cause he'd just beaten the hell out of me last year's War to Settle the Score, and I did it because he'd laid his hands on a woman I thought I cared for. At the time, I thought I was doing okay, 'cause I'd lasted ten minutes in the ring with Dread, and there ain't that many people who could say that at the time."

Walker pauses a moment, closes his eyes. He takes a deep breath before he continues. "Twelve months makes a difference, though. The woman? She betrayed me. Said it was for my own good, and maybe she was right about that, 'cause now I take pride in the fact that I've beaten Dread in the middle of the ring.

"And I take pride in the fact that I'm now the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship.

"I say that out loud, and it still seems strange to me. When I agreed to wrestle for Hollyweird, I didn't think that big. I planned on wrestling a little, picking up some winner's purses, getting myself laid a little more often as the chika's started to recognise me.

"Guess I didn't realise what I was capable of. The guy who took that contract, he was just a punk kid.

"Me, I've had to grow up fast. I've had to figure out just how good I am.

"I don't know if I can take down Rip Chord at Welcome to Hollyweird. We've fought before. I know he's good. Hell, I know he's a damn legend in this business, and he's been wrestling almost as long as I've been alive.

Sweet Child of Mine starts playing, preceding, as ever, the arrival of the World Heavyweight Champion. Chord walks out onto the stage, Entourage at his back, and studies the young wrestler in the ring.

"I gotta tell you, Walker, you weren't the one I expected to be talking to tonight," Chord says. "When Future set up the three-way dance, I figured I'd be out here talking to Dread, trying to figure out how I stop a man who legitimately claims to be a Human Juggernaut. I figured, at the outside, there was a chance I'd be talking to Liberty, giving him one last shot at this belt before he rode off into the sunset.

"And instead, kid, it's you. I watched the tape of your match, and you ain't got nothing to be doubtful about. You beat two of the best in the world in order to win your shot, and near as I can tell, you're one of those threats that's only getting more dangerous. 'Cause right now, Walker, if I'm honest, you stand a chance of beating the Great One. Not a big chance. Not even double-digits. But that's more than I grant most people.

"And the part that galls me, Walker, is learning that you're only twenty-six. That means you're going to get better, before your career is over, and that makes you the kind of threat that I take very seriously.

"What I want you to remember, Walker, as you prepare for Welcome to Hollyweird...you're good. Right now, you're as good as you can be, and you're going to get better. But you're not me, Walker. You're not The Great One. You may be the man without fear, but I'm the New Golden Age of Wrestling. I am the man who is training the future and leaving behind a legacy.

"When we get to Welcome to Hollywierd, Walker, I want to see you at your best, 'cause anything else is going to be an insult."

Bryan Vessey w/Coach Dick Pangrazzio vs. Richie Pangrazzio w/Wanda Fish

Both these men can put on a brilliant, technically-inspired classic if they've got a mind to do so, but tonight the mat-work is set aside in favour of beating the holy hell out of one another. It's not quite a hardcore match, but it's close; Sam Sparrow is giving both men a lot of leeway, letting them get away with things that would ordinary result in a DQ.

This draws a lot of commentary, as does the presence of Wanda Fish at ringside. Kyle Rhodes speculates that perhaps the Untouchable's actions tonight's have all been a ruse, while Nero simply prefers the explanation that Women are inherently two-faced. Regardless of which may actually be true, Fish is on fire as she distracts and interferes, even with the Coach there to try and run interference.

With passions running high, it's the most passionate man in the match that holds the advantage, and on this night, at least, that proves to be Vessey. He sustains a series of punches to the skull, cuts them off with a short chop to the base of the throat that stuns Pangrazzio, then dumps his opponent on his head courtesy of the Vessey Driver.

Vessey stands over Pangrazzio, face a mask of rage. He calls to the Coach, whose been holding the baseball bat Vessey's been toting for the last two shows, but Coach isn't in a hurry to hand the weapon over.

"Coach," Vessey shouts, holding out his hand. Coach looks at the bat in his hand, takes a step away from the ring.

Paul Steadyfast strolls down the last few feet of the ramp, plucking the bat out off Coach's hand. He looks at the weapon, looks at the Coach, then looks at Bryan Vessey.

"Bad news," he says, "We weren't content with one..."

"Ribs happen, backstage." Charlie Thatcher is leaning forward, the big red couch sagging under his weight. "Some guys have a talent for it, some guys don't. Bryan Vessey's one of the latter. Pretty much everything he comes up with is scatological, and he ain't exactly the kind of guy you're inclined to forgive for things.

"First time I saw him pulling something was when he backstage with his brother and Richie 'grazio. They're back there with Bryan Holmes jacket while he's in the shower, and the Vessey's have this idea to stuff the pockets with paper they've wiped on their sweaty asses. So Larry does it, Richie does it, and it's your basic stink-palm shit, but when Bryan Holmes wipes he comes up with paper that's got some definite skid-marks, and he stuffs it in along with the rest."

Thatcher shakes his head. "Bryan Vessey and shit. I never understood it. I'm not sure many people did.

"And it sure as hell didn't make him any friends."

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/THE_zps3a12ecd2.jpg

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/AlexBraun_alt.jpg

"****ers, the pair of them." Alex Braun fixes the camera with an intense, dismissive stare. "Not to take anything away from the things they've accomplished, but for all the heat guys like Redwood and Valentine get from the fans for being assholes, it's nothing compared to the problems the Vessey Brothers 'cause simply by being the damn Vessey Brothers.

"Larry's a ruthless, pessimistic mother-****er who'll bury you as soon as look at you. The moment you're a threat to his spot - and back then, as he realised he was starting to slow down, that was pretty much everyone - Larry is in the booker's ear, doing everything he can to keep you down.

"Bryan's just an enormous pain the ass - not quite as bad as his brother, but at the time he hadn't spent quite as much time on the juice. Nowadays, god knows, he could be worse.

"Half the reason Larry got his 'wrist broken' is so Nero could give him a few weeks off and give us a break from his mother-****ing bullshit."

The TCW Wrestling Archive Presents

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/HTV.jpg

- Episode 61 Preview -

We begin with tag-team action, as The Blazing Flames take on the duo of Nate Coleman and Stuart Ferdinand; it's a big opportunity for the latter pairing, as a win over a team of the Flames experience always gets the attention of the HGC officials, but can Coleman and Ferdinand handle the veterans?

Dusty Streets is a man who knows how to wrestle an opposing tag-team, and once again his skills will be put to the test when he finds himself in a handicap match. Sam Strong has hired Black Murder to do the honours this week, putting yet another hurdle between Streets and their bout at Welcome to Hollyweird.

Two submission specialists go head-to-head after that, where the King of the Hill, Brent Hill, takes on the flamboyant Eddie Chandler in singles competition. Hill remains one of the men to beat in HGC - the handful of men who hold victories over him remains a whose who of champions and future legends - so you can bet that Chandler is eager to trap him in the Fabulous Stretch.

The Untouchables may have parted ways with Richie Pangrazzio Jr, but they made a point of establishing themselves as a threat to the All-Star Team when they did so, putting Larry Vessey on the injured list. Tonight, Chris Storm looks for a little payback when he takes on the implacable Robert Oxford.

Cowboy Ricky Dale is another man looking for revenge tonight, promising the Demons of Rage a beating for their assault on Dark EAGLE. The Cowboy's partner is a man who knows a thing or two about payback, but can the Cowboy and the man called Vengeance really coexist as a tag-team?

Finally, in the main event, Rip Chord makes a rare singles appearance on Hollyweird TV when he sets out to take the measure of one-half of HGC's Tag-Team Champions, Bryan Holmes. With the Ontario Kings set to take on Chord's proteges at Welcome to Hollyweird, both men will be looking at this as an opportunity to make a statement.

"It's one of the perks of wearing a belt like mine - people have to earn the privilege of fighting you, and that usually means a pay-per-view bonus and much bigger winner's purse than a TV main event provides.

"But thinking about your legacy means looking towards the future, figuring out who'll take your place when you finally stand down. Right now, I think it's these men. My proteges, my Entourage. They've got the talent. They've got the drive. All they need is the guidance.

"Even the Great One gets it wrong sometimes. That's why I'm studying Monty Walker, ahead of our fight at Welcome to Hollyweird. It's why I'm wrestling Bryan Holmes and seeing exactly how good that House of Stone training really is.

"Enjoy this, tonight, because it's a gift. I choose to wrestle Bryan Holmes because I want to get his measure. I'm lowering myself because it's necessary, not because I want to do it. And Holmes is stepping up, even though there's no title on the line, because he understands one important thing.

"I am Rip Chord. The Great One. The veterans run roughshod over their opponents for the opening minutes, but as Nero points out on commentary, it doesn't take very long for a man like Coleman to realise he's in a fight. "There's something about getting punched in the face that tends to focus your attention," Nero says. "I think we've just seen that happen."

It means the second half of the match is surprisingly competitive; Coleman and Ferdinand aren't able to hang with the teamwork of the Flames just yet, but they've got natural chemistry on their side and the influence of Barstow is noticeable. They cheat constantly, but it's not quite enough. Joey Flame traps Nate Coleman with a half-crab.

The Blazing Flames defeated Coleman & Ferdinand in 9:55 by submission.

 Rating: C

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/HGCB.jpg

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x15/arwink/MontyWalker_alt.jpg

Monty Walker is backstage, seated in a stairwell. He runs both hands through his hair, takes a deep breath before looking at the camera. "So Rip Chord thinks I've got what it takes to beat him," he says, then he flashes a grin. "Well, he says that, but if you read between the lines, mostly what he's telling you is how I don't stand a chance. What he's telling me is that I'm good, and one day I'll be great, but that day isn't today and it's sure as hell not going to be Welcome to Hollyweird, and really he's going to beat my ass for my own good.

"And that's okay. I've been told that before. It hasn't held me back.

"All my life, people have told me about the things I cannot do, and most of those things I couldn't do ended up getting done. The arrogant young wrestler takes things to the mat and brawls with considerable aplomb, just a fraction of a step behind Brent Hill, and that fraction of a step is mitigated by the presence of Harper at ringside.

The Global Elite's valet takes plenty of chances to get physically involved in this match, at one point getting on the ring apron and nailing Brent Hill with a stiff forearm shiv that rattles him badly. Hill goes down, but Chandler isn't happy about that - he yells at Harper about getting involved - but it doesn't stop him from taking advantage, locking in the Fabulous Stretch, and it says volumes of Hill's ring-awareness that he finds the ropes even as he shakes off the effects of Harper's blow.

Chandler gets cocky after that, which proves to be a mistake. Hill lures him in, takes him down with a neckbreaker, then goes to the top rope. "All of that sounds threatening, brother, but you've gotta remember one important thing: Dusty Streets is hurting. His ribs took a battering courtesy of Raymond Diaz, and every opponent he's had since then has been targeting that injury. You don't want to go into any match injured like that, and you sure as hell don't want to fight the Living Legend.

"Whatever Streets wants as his stipulation, I'm confident I can beat him. The younger wrestler launches into an enthusiastic exchange of holds, the speed of his counters and reversals putting Chord on the back foot early. Even as Chord finds his rhythm in the exchanges, Holmes starts adding the kicks to the equation, mixing things up in a way that has Chord sliding out of the ring to stall.

It's Chord's repeated attempts to stall that ultimately cost Holmes the match - after holding his own for a good twelve minutes, Holmes tries to make Chord pay for stalling with a suicide dive through the ropes. Unfortunately, Charlie Thatcher is there to intercept, shoulder-blocking Holmes out of the air. Holmes lands hard on the concrete, bounces into the guard rail.

And for a couple of moments, he just lies there, obviously hurt and stunned.

The ten-count begins. "Stallings companies had helped set up the initial deals, but after that we were basically left to sink or float on our own merits.

"We had some great production guys on board, and for about half the first year the TV stations were willing to chip in for some of the costs of keeping them in addition to giving us a cut of the ad buys. Not so by the beginning of ninety-eight; me and Nero would go into the meetings to renew our distribution deals, and the margins kept getting slimmer.

"It's one of those things that happens when you don't have leverage, and in TV land the only leverage you've got comes down to ratings. At the end of ninety-seven we just weren't rating high enough. By the middle of March, we were hitting the kind of numbers that were going to make the next round of negotiations really, really interesting."

"The Eisen advantage was always the exposure." Sam Keith pauses a moment, choosing his next words carefully. The veteran may have departed Supreme several years ago to work for the competition, but it's never resulted in any kind of rancor in his public comments about the company. "Even when Hollyweird first started and got TV, they didn't qualify as a threat because they were...well, they had the money, but it wasn't equating to visibility.

"And when you're a wrestler, you're looking for a combination of visibility and a decent payday. If you have to choose one, you choose the place that gives you greater visibility, 'cause that'll lead to a bigger payday somewhere down the line.

"So Hollyweird wasn't a threat, 'cause they didn't have the size and they didn't have the TV deal.

"Then the news came through that TEW.com had upgraded their rating...and the next day, Jim Force brought in his offer from Mike Nero and used it as leverage in his negotiations with Eisen, and for the first time Richard realised he probably couldn't ignore the possibility that his up-and-coming talent might seriously consider jumping ship.

"Little did he know, he hadn't seen anything yet."

- Episode 63 Preview -

Eric Tyler may be itching to get his rematch with Duane Stone, but on Tuesday night it will be one of the other members of the Global Elite, Eddie Chandler, who steps into the ring with the Stone scion. Given the schooling both men have had in the Canadian submission style, this is a bout that fans of technical wrestling wont want to miss.

The masked high-flyer, Mr America, will also be in action, taking on the Priest of Pain, Pablo Rodriguez.

Following that, a new team will be stepping into the ring against The Blazing Flames to test themselves against the standard bearers of the tag-team division. Both Super Joshuya and Scarlet Samurai have wrestled in singles matches for HGC, but under the direction of Carl Batch they've now formed a tag-team duo under the name Super Samurai Cyber Force 2000.

We get a preview of Welcome to Hollyweird up next, as one half of the tag-team champions, Bryan Holmes, answers the challenge of The Punisher and steps into the ring. A win here could send the Dallas Wrecking Crew into Hollyweird with the momentum advantage, and with Rick Sanders at ringside you know Holmes will be facing an uphill battle.

Tyson Baine will be taking on Troy Tornado of Barstow Incorporated at the younger man's request, although there's still no word on whether Cheatin' Mike Barstow will be in attendance after being assaulted by Baine last week.

Finally, Dusty Streets will be revealing the stipulation he'll be placing on his match against Sam Strong at Welcome to Hollyweird, in addition to wrestling in the latest match Strong has set for him - a handicap match against all three members of The Army of Darkness.
