WCW: The Quest For The Lost Glory

Recommended Posts

I like what you've done with Jindrak, Mesias and Booker, but I feel Jindrak needs a new pic to make him seem stronger/better/more of a believeable undefeated beast... I'm just not feeling that pic "/

I've had that thought my about Jindrak myself but I haven't really been able to find a pic that suits him better in his current role.

That was a great show man! All your decisions made sense, but gah Chavo is such a b***h!!! I really wanted Kidman to be the man to stop him! Wish Jindrak hadn't lost (or been the man pinned), but hey ho, can't have everything :)

Glad you liked the show man. And if you're hating Chavo then I'm doing my job as a booker/writer ;)

As for Jindrak, it was a tough call. I wanted to keep everyone strong, which is why I went with the finish I did as I think it shouldn't hurt Jindrak too much in the grand scheme of things.

I'll echo Lloyd and say that Mayhem was a great show. I've dropped out of touch with this for a while but it was a great point to jump back in - your booking is as strong as ever so I'll do my best to keep up.

Out of interest- how does Sting/Kanyon rank among your best matches?

Welcome back, man! And glad you liked the show. :)

As for the Sting/Kanyon match, it is officially my first A-rated match in this WCW game, and thus also my best match so far. I'll admit that I didn't quite see it coming. I expected a good rating since Sting is, well, Sting, and Kanyon has come a long way, maybe a B or a B+ if things went really well, but they managed to top my expectations.

I've got this month's prediction contest results tallied up and the results, in this very close contest, are as follows;

Crackerjack picks up the win with 27 hits

Beejus and Satyr24 shares second place with 26 hits

Happy0wns takes third place with 25 hits

Henderson ends fourth with 22 hits.

Like I said, very close race this month and I want to thank everyone who predicted (ten different people predicted on at least one show during this past month).

Congratulations to Crackerjack on picking up another win, you've got a nice little streak going :) and your prize will be in your inbox within the next few days.

I'll also be sending out bonus prizes to Beejus, Satyr24, Happy0wns and Henderson, who all predicted on all five shows during this past month.

Monday Nitro Preview

This week's edition of Monday Nitro will be coming to you live from Lake Placid, New York, and what a show it promises to be. Not only will the show feature all of the fallout from last night's Mayhem pay per view, but as announced last night on Mayhem, WCW owner Eric Bischoff will be on hand to make a "huge announcement" regarding the biggest pay per view of the year, the Granddaddy of the all; Starrcade. Who wil be next in line to face Shawn Michaels for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship after last night's controversial ending to the World Title match? How will Goldberg react to having his Streak broken under equally controversial circumstances by "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner last night at Mayhem? And what will Scott Steiner have to say about being the man who finally ended Goldberg's streak?

With Starrcade just four weeks away, you can be sure that Nitro will be jam-packed with action as everyone on the roster fights to earn a spot on the card of the biggest event of the year. You do NOT want to miss a second of it!

Very solid show BigBad! Surprised to see the streak end(and bossman and steiner being the ones to do it), but I've always found the streak gimmick to be pretty one demensional.

Non-Title

Shawn Michaels vs. Sean O'Haire

I've been pulling for O'Haire for a while, but after losing to flair, he ain't taking this one. Quick question: did flair refuse the job?

Kanyon vs. Brian Lawler

Who betta?

The F.B.I.(Guido Versace and the Mamalukes) vs. Norman Smiley, Air Paris and Matt Sydal

Flair vs O'Haire was good at the PPV, but this is Shawn Michaels!

Kanyon vs. Brian Lawler

Back to winning ways after a cracking performance at Mayhem! Could Lawler be a third member of the Sons of the South?!

Shawn Michaels - O'Haire likely won't take a clean pin, but Shawn will get the W.

Kanyon

The FBI - Finally, a team they can beat :p

La Parka - Aries fell off the map pretty hard, so "The Chairman" picks up a win.

Hell of a Mayhem, and I can't wait to see what you have cooked up for Starrcade. Yeah Scotty!! "Big Poppa Pump" hooked Goldberg up good!

Okay, a couple of quick notes;

First of all I want to thank everyone who voted for this diary in the DOTM, both this month and last month. I really appreciate the support.

Secondly, I'm currently looking into options for having a logo made for my WCW: Vegas Rules pay per view in early 2003, so if anyone can hook me up with something, or knows someone who can hook me up, I'd appreciate a heads up. If not I'll just try my luck in one of the cut request threads but I figured I'd ask here first.

Thirdly, I want to thank everyone for their comments on Mayhem. I feel like it took me forever to write it, so I'm glad people enjoyed it.

Fourtly, I haven't forgotten about the prediction prizes. I'm hoping to have them sent during the weekend, Monday at the latest.

And finally, Nitro is going up right after this post. I'm trying to keep the write-ups for Nitro a bit shorter, both because I think my PPV's tend to be quite lengthy (which I think they should be), and because it will allow me to keep the diary moving at a better pace than it has lately. Obviously I still want my Nitro's to be good reads so hopefully I'll be able to find the right balance.

Week 1, December, 2002

Live from Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, New York

Attendance: 7.700 (sellout)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/EricBischoff3.jpg

As this week's Monday Nitro goes on the air we do so with WCW owner Eric Bischoff already in the ring. Bischoff is all smiles following last night's Mayhem pay per view, and he says that he's been riding a natural high for the past 24 hours because of the events of last night. Not only did Shawn Michaels successfully defend the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, but "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner FINALLY put an end to Goldberg's streak. Bischoff says that he feels like a kid in a candy store with all of this excitement going through his body, and he knows that tonight is going to be just a great as last night. The crowd breaks out the "Goldberg" chants, but Bischoff just laughs at them and tells them that, in the interest of securing the safety of everyone in WCW, he has decided to ban Goldberg from the building tonight. The crowd boos massively for this, but Bischoff says that everyone knows that Goldberg is a sore loser, and he's not going to let him run amok tonight just because "The Genetic Freak" handed him his ass last night. He also talks about the WCW: Vegas Rules pay per view, saying that people have been coming up to him all day wanting to know the details of this new pay per view. He says that all will be revealed in time, but right now he's out here to talk about Starrcade and...and that's as far as he gets before he is interrupted by... (B)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Scott%20Steiner%202.jpg

The sound of "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner's music as it blasts throughout the arena, bringing the entire crowd to their feet to shower "The Big Bad Booty Daddy" with boos. Bischoff seems stunned at first, but he quickly puts on his "game face" as he smiles and claps as Steiner makes his way to the ring. Steiner grabs a mic of his own and says that last night at Mayhem he did exactly what he said he was gonna do; he beat Goldberg like the bitch that he is. And now, having done that, it's time for Bischoff to make good on his promise because "Big Poppa Pump" wants his shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. Bischoff quickly assures Steiner that the announcement he was about to make before Steiner inter--joined him in the ring, is one that Scott Steiner should be extremely satisfied with. Because---(B-)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Kevin%20Nash%20Long.jpg

Bischoff is again interrupted, this time by the sound of the Wolfpac theme as "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash makes his way out from the back, looking none too pleased after the events of last night's Mayhem. Nash marches down to the ring with a mic of his own and says that if anyone deserves a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship, it's him. And he's sure as hell not gonna stand around while Bischoff hands his shot off to Steiner. Steiner gets in Nash's face and it looks like it might come to blows between these two powerful men, but then, just when the tension is at its highest...(B-)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Sting%20%2042.jpg

"Seek And Destroy" hits and Sting makes his way out from the back to a great ovation from the crowd. Sting joins Bischoff, Steiner and Nash in the ring and says that he couldn't help but hear everything that was going on in the ring and the Stinger is out here to throw his name in the hat because there is nothing he would like more than to get one more shot at Shawn Michaels and put an end to his charade of a World Title reign. Sting, Steiner and Nash all stare each other down and the entire situation feels very much like a powder keg just waiting to explode, but then Eric Bischoff finally steps in to ease the tension somewhat. Bischoff says that the only person around here who decides who deserves a title shot...is him. Not Sting, not Nash, and not even Scott Steiner. HOWEVER...if they would keep quiet long enough for him to make his announcement...then they would know that they all at least have an opportunity to earn themselves a World Title shot at Starrcade. Bischoff says that, Starrcade being the Granddaddy Of Them All, he has decided that this years Starrcade is going to be even more history making than ever before. Why? Because this year, for the first time ever, the WCW World Heavyweight Championship will be defended....in an ELIMINATION CHAMBER MATCH! Bischoff explains the basic rules of the match, saying that the structure itself it almost too devastating to describe, and that people are just going to have to wait until Starrcade to see it for themselves. But the rules are simple; six competitors compete inside a massive steel chamber. Two men will start, and every five minutes another competitor will be released from the one of the four pods within the chamber. Eliminations occur via pinfall or submission, and the last man standing will be the WCW World Heavyweight Champion. So, who will be in this match? Two men are guaranteed a spot already; the World Heavyweight Champion, Shawn Michaels, who is also guaranteed to be the last person in the chamber to enter the match, and the man who single-handedly put an end to the streak last night at Mayhem..."Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner. As for the other four spots in the match...eight superstars are going to battle for them over the next two weeks, and those superstars are; Sting...Kevin Nash...Ric Flair...Jeff Jarrett...Kanyon...Scott Hall...Diamond Dallas Page...and, depending on a few things...Booker T. The winners of these matches will earn a spot in the first ever Elimination Chamber match, and get a shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Everyone in the ring seems happy with the announcement and the tension, at least for now, seems to have faded somewhat. (B)

Following that huge announcement we cut to the announce table where Tony, Mike and Jerry hype up Bischoff's announcement further. They talk about the first ever Elimination Chamber match, explain the rules one more time, hype the match up some more, and then it's time for our first match of the night.

The Full Blooded Italians came out hot for this one after Guido Versace's defeat at the hands of Rey Misterio Jr. last night at Mayhem, and they were determined to take their frustrations on the unlucky trio of Matt Sydal, Norman Smiley and Air Paris. The Paisans dominated this one from start to finish, dealing out some additional punishment than was seemingly needed before Guido put Matt Sydal away with the Sicilian Crab for the dominant submission win.

The Full Blooded Italians defeated Matt Sydal, Norman Smiley and Air Paris at 7.56 by submission when Guido Versace made Matt Sydal tap out to the Sicilian Crab (D-)

Following the match a graphic pops up on screen to hype up tonight's main event as the World Heavyweight Champion, Shawn Michaels, faces off against Sean O'Haire. The announcers briefly talk about the match, saying that even though it is a non title match, it is a huge opportunity for Sean O'Haire, but they also wonder what kind of shape O'Haire is in following his brutal Steel Cage match against Ric Flair last night on Mayhem. (B)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/EricBischoff3.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Shawn%20Michaels%202.jpg

We cut to the back where Eric Bischoff is joined in his office by Shawn Michaels. The World Heavyweight Champion is clearly upset, demanding to know what Bischoff was thinking when he decided to book this Elimination Chamber match, because now Shawn has to defeat five other men instead of just one. Bischoff tries to calm Shawn down, and then he points out that by having Shawn enter the match last, at least a couple of the other competitors will more than likely have been eliminated already, leaving the remaining few as easy prey. And then Shawn Michaels will go down in history as the first ever winner of an Elimination Chamber match, adding another feat to his already impressive list of accomplishments. That idea seems to sit quite well with the World Champion, who calms down as we cut back to ringside. (B)

The Chairman Of WCW made a shocking and impactful return last night at Mayhem when he took out the Cruiserweight Champion, Chavo Guerrero Jr., and tonight he looked to add to his momentum in his first match back against Aries. Aries wasn't a pushover here, however, and put up a good fight until...

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/ChavoGuerreroJr.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Chavo%20Guerrero%20Sr.jpg

Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Chavo Guerrero Sr. made their way down to the ring. Chavo went after LA Parka, attempting to get some retribution following last night while Chavo Senior had the referee distracted, but Chavo accidentally ended up hitting Aries instead. LA Parka then hit a Sky Twister Press on Aries to pick up the win, much to Chavo Guerrero Jr.'s great frustration.

LA Parka defeated Aries at 5.59 by pinfall with a Sky Twister Press after Chavo Guerrero Jr. accidentally hit Aries (E)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/EricBischoff3.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Ray%20Traylor.jpg

Following the match we head back to Eric Bischoff's office where the owner is joined by the man who helped Scott Steiner to beat Goldberg's streak last night at Mayhem, Ray Traylor. Bischoff is all smiles as he addresses the camera, saying that it is time for Ray Traylor to officially sign his WCW contract--meaning that he was not under contract last night, and thus not a part of the WCW roster when he got involved the match, which means that the ban obviously did not apply to him and he is not subject to its punishment. Bischoff smiles as he shakes hands with Traylor and officially welcomes him to WCW, while Tony Schiavone is heard muttering that this was nothing more than a charade and that Bischoff had this planned all along when he banned everyone on the roster from getting involved in the match between Goldberg and Steiner at Mayhem. (B-)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/JeffJarrett.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/CheerleaderMelissa.jpg

We cut back to ringside where "The Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett makes his way down to the ring with Cheerleader Melissa in tow. Tony, Mike and Jerry talk about Jarrett's loss to Scott Hall last night at Mayhem, and Jerry Lawler is quick to blame Scott Hall for hitting a lowblow on Jarrett, but Tony and Mike both point out that Jarrett did it to Hall first and Hall was only returning the favor. Jarrett gets on the mic and last night he was flat out robbed of the win he rightfully deserved. He says that Scott Hall talks about wanting to be a World Champion, but the truth is that Scott Hall would be a disgrace to the World Championship--just like he is a disgrace to the wrestling business. Jarrett says that he is the Chosen One for a reason and he doesn't deserve the kind of treatment he got last night. Jarrett goes to continue, but he is suddenly interrupted--not by Scott Hall, however, but by...

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/DiamondDallasPage_1.jpg

Diamond Dallas Page! DDP has a mic of his own and he asks Jarrett to PLEASE shut the hell up because he can't stand listening to him whining and complaining for one more second. Page says that Bischoff even announced earlier that Jarrett will get a chance to qualify for the first ever Elimination Chamber match at Starrcade, and yet he is still complaining. He says that he hopes they face each other in the qualifiers--just so that he can get him to shut the hell up. Jarrett says that he is not surprised that DDP is out here sticking up for Scott Hall because the two of them are alike. They are both washed up, has-beens who can't accept that their time is over. Page looks like he is about to reply, but instead he drops the mic and runs down to the ring, much to the delight of the fans. DDP hits the ring and exchange blows with Jarrett. Page gets the upper hand and goes for the Diamond Cutter, but Jarrett barely manages to escape it, and he quickly leaves the ring and heads back up the ramp while DDP stands tall in the ring, holding up the Diamond Cutter sign and.....BANG!!!!! (C-)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/JoeyStyles2000.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/ScottHall_zps51f8a47e.jpg

Joey Styles is backstage with Scott Hall and Joey asks Hall about his win last night against Jeff Jarrett, and the announcement that Hall will get a chance to qualify for the first ever Elimination Chamber match. Hall says that ever since he stood in the middle of the ring at Halloween Havoc and told everyone about his dream, he's been getting a lot of different reactions. Some people support him and encourage him, others berate him or even mock him. He says that beating Jeff Jarrett last night was another step toward achieving his dream of winning a World Title and--

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/RicFlair2.jpg

Hall is suddenly interrupted as "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair walks into the camera's view. Flair says that Scott Hall doesn't have a clue about what it takes to be a World Champion, and if he thinks that he's getting a title shot before "The Nature Boy", he's got another thing coming. Flair says that he'll do whatever it takes to earn a spot in the Elimination Chamber match, and if it ends up being Scott Hall who stands in his way...then he'll have no problem whatsoever with taking Hall's dream of becoming a World Champion...and flushing it down the toilet--WOOO!!!!!! Flair walks off and Hall stares angrily after him as we cut back to ringside. ©

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/BrianChristopher.jpgvs.http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/ChrisKanyon4.jpg

Coming off a tremendous effort last night against Sting where he came up just short, Kanyon looked to bounce back tonight as he faced off against Brian Lawler. This was a solid match that saw Lawler hold his own for a while, but slowly but surely Kanyon seized control of the match and began to dominate, eventually putting Lawler away with the Kanyon Cutter for the win.

Kanyon defeated Brian Lawler at 10.11 by pinfall with the Kanyon Cutter (C+)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/JoeyStyles2000.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Scott%20Steiner%202.jpg

In the back, Joey Styles has caught up with "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner. Joey asks Steiner about his win against Goldberg last night, and in particular the involvement of Ray Traylor. Steiner says that he never asked for Ray Traylor's help last night at Mayhem and he sure as hell didn't need it. Steiner says that he proved last night that he is the most dominant man in the business today, and he'll prove it again at Starrcade when he wins the World Heavyweight Championship! (C+)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/EricBischoff3.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/BookerT.jpg

Back to WCW owner Eric Bischoff's office we go one more time where the owner is joined by the WCW United States Champion, Booker T. Bischoff says that he asked Booker T to come here because he's got a problem and he needs Booker's help to solve it. Bischoff says that he wants to give Booker the chance to qualify for the Elimination Chamber, but there's a problem. Bischoff explains that he wants all four WCW titles to be defended at Starrcade, including the United States Championship--especially since the US Title hasn't been defended on two of the last three pay per views. That's just not good business. So as long as Booker T is the United States Champion, he can't give him a shot at qualifying for the Elimination Chamber. Booker says he'll wrestle twice at Starrcade if he has to, but Bischoff won't allow it. No, Booker has to make a choice; if he wants a shot at qualifying for the first ever Elimination Chamber match...then he'll have to vacate the United States Championship. And he has to make a decision...right...now. Booker hesitates for a long moment as he considers his options and then, reluctantly, he grabs the US Title belt and hands it to Eric Bischoff--the WCW United States Championship has just been vacated!!! (B-)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Shawn%20Michaels%202.jpgvs.http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Sean%20OHaire.jpg

Back in the ring it was time for the main event as Shawn Michaels faced off against Sean O'Haire in a non title matchup. This was a great and highly competitive matchup that went back and forth throughout. O'Haire took the fight to Michaels early on, but the veteran experience of Michaels allowed him to lure O'Haire into getting a bit overzealous as he went to the top rope but missed a moonsault. From there Michaels took control with some old school, mat based wrestling, proving that behind the cheating, the preferential treatment and the often coward-like behavior, Shawn Michaels is still one hell of a pro wrestler. Michaels hit the diving elbow drop, but O'Haire managed to kick out. Michaels then went for the Sweet Chin Music, but O'Haire was able to avoid it. O'Haire then looked to put Michaels away with a Widow Maker, but Michaels managed to slip out the back, and O'Haire turned around and walked right into a Sweet Chin Music. Michaels dropped into the cover and picked up a great win in this highly competitive matchup.

Shawn Michaels defeated Sean O'Haire at 14.49 by pinfall with a Sweet Chin Music (B+)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Shawn%20Michaels%202.jpg

A visibly tired Shawn Michaels has his hand raised in victory and Tony Schiavone starts to sign off on another great edition of WCW Monday Nitro, but the show is not quite over yet as...

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Kevin%20Nash%20Long.jpg

The Wolfpac music hits again and Kevin Nash makes his way out from the back to a great reaction from the crowd. Michaels looks like he's seen a ghost in the ring as Nash marches toward him, and as Nash steps over the ropes and into the ring, Michaels bails out of the ring on the opposite side, wanting nothing to do with "Big Sexy" here tonight. As Kevin Nash stands tall in the ring, and Shawn Michaels reteats back up the ramp, Tony notes that things are far from over between these two former best friends. (B-)

And with that, WCW Monday Nitro comes to an end.

Final Show Rating: B

TV Rating: 0.84

Interesting choice for the Starrcade main event and definitely allows you to put your huge names in there for a solid match to end the year.

I am a bit disappointed to just see Booker vacate the US title. That results in very little payoff or benefit for Mesias or Jindrak, though I get your probable reasoning behind it. I'm sure Booker is much more over than the two of them and having Booker lose would've been too much of a hit on his popularity, which in turn would have made a position for him in the Starrcade main event tough.

Breaking News Regarding Starrcade

Huge news coming out of WCW owner Eric Bischoff's office as Bischoff has just announced that in addition to the qualifying matches for the first ever Elimination Chamber match, the coming editions of WCW Monday Nitro will also feature WCW United States Champinship and WCW Tag Team Championhip qualifying matches. Four fourway qualifying matches will be held with the winners advancing to a fourway match at Starrcade for the United States Championship, while three two on two tag team matches will also be held, with the winners advancing to Starrcade where the WCW Tag Team Champions, KroniK, will defend the Tag Team Titles in a four corners elimination tag team match.

WCW owner Eric Bischoff had the following to say on these decisions;

"Everyone knows that Starrcade is the biggest event of the year and now, with these decisions, I have ensured that every single edition of WCW Monday Nitro leading into Starrcade will be huge, must-see shows--even moreso than usual. And that is what WCW is all about."

Elimination Chamber Qualifier

Ric Flair vs. Booker T

Tough one. I don't think that you'd make booker drop the US just for him to lose here. Plus, the idea of Flair in a Chamber is not good one

Jarrett's gone a bit stale. Nash takes it and tries for revenge

Really good Nitro BigB, it looks like you did a huge swerve on all of us who were making plans for your Starrcade!

Booker T - As much as I'd love to see Flair getting the shot, Booker just seems to have that much more to want to win for, given he dropped the US title.

Kevin Nash - I don't see any way Nash doesn't make it into the EC, given he vs. Shawn going so recently.

Chavo Guerrero Jr. - More Chavito!

Sean O'Haire - O'Haire would make a solid US champ now.

Mark Jindrak - BUT OH YEAH GO JINDRAK!!!

Sons of the South - Serious team instead of comedy team.

Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry Lawler were forced to their their introductions on the fly as this week's edition of Monday Nitro kicked off with some in-ring action right off the bat. Even with a spot in the Tag Team Title match at Starrcade on the line, the Boogie Knights felt compelled to show off their dances moves at the start of this one and it almost cost them an embarrassingly quick loss as Dustin Rhodes caught Disco Inferno by surprise with a rollup, but Alex Wright just barely managed to save the match for his team. As the match settled down with the Boogie Knights taking control after Alex Wright blindsided Rhodes, the announcers spent some time hyping up Starrcade and the Tag Team title match where the champions, KroniK, will defend the titles against three other teams, one of which will be the winners of this match. After a few minutes of control by the Knights, Dustin Rhodes made a spirited comeback and made the hot tag to BG James. James cleaned house, but was soon double teamed by the Boogie Knights. Dustin Rhodes re-entered the frey and took Disco Inferno out, leaving BG James to put Alex Wright away with a piledriver as Sons Of The South advanced to the Tag Team Title match at Starrcade!

Torrie Wilson is seen walking through the catering area when a flower delivery man walks up to her as, apparently, he's got some flowers for her. Torrie is all smiles as she smells the flowers and then reads the card, which only makes her smile grow even bigger, leading Jerry Lawler to comment, of course, that he would like to put a smile like that on Torrie's face too, which Tony Schiavone merely sighs at. We then cut back to ringside as Torrie walks off down the hallway, flowers in hand. (E+)

Second match of the night and, just like in the first one, there was plenty on the line--this time one of the four spots in the four way United States Championship title match at Starrcade. Mike Tenay noted that the US Title was vacated last week when Booker T had to choose between the US Title or a shot at earning a spot in the first ever Elimination Chamber match for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Mark Jindrak dominated large portions of this one, imposing his will on his three opponents as he saw fit, much like he has done in the majority of his matches over the last several months. So impressive and dominant was Jindrak, in fact, that it looked like it was just a matter of time before he would pick up the win, but all of that changed when...

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Little%20Guido%202.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/BigVito.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/JohnnyStamboli.jpg

Guido Versace, Big Vito and Johnny The Bull all hit the ring and attacked Jindrak. Jerry Lawler praised the Full Blooded Italians for utilizing smart strategy as there were no disqualifications in these types of matches, while Tony and Mike, while far less enthusiastic about it, begrudgingly agreed--at least about the no-dq part of it. With Mark Jindrak busy trying to fend off three men, it opened up the perfect opportunity for Chuck Palumbo, who put Kaz Hayashi in the Torture Rack. Brian Lawler tried to break up the submission, but he was taken out by Johnny The Bull before he could get there, and Kaz Hayashi tapped out.

Chuck Palumbo defeated Kaz Hayashi, Brian Lawler and Mark Jindrak at 7.47 by submission when Kaz Hayashi tapped out to the Torture Rack. Chuck Palumbo advances to the US Title match at Starrcade (D+)

As The F.B.I. celebrates in the ring, Tony Schiavone is less than thrilled, saying that Palumbo and the rest of the Italians stole a spot in the US Title match here tonight. Mike Tenay points out how dominant Mark Jindrak was before Big Vito, Johnny The Bull and Guido Versace got involved, saying that he looked like a lock to pick up in the win. Jerry Lawler says that Tony and Mike can cry as much as they want, but it's not going to change the fact that the F.B.I. outsmarted everyone else tonight and Chuck Palumbo is going to Starrcade to compete for the United States Championship.

We cut backstage to Billy Kidman's locker room where Kidman is preparing for his match later tonight when he is joined by Torrie Wilson. Torrie is still all smiles as she runs up to Kidman and gives him a kiss. Kidman asks what that was for, and Torrie replies that it was because she has the sweetest boyfriend in the entire world. Kidman seems a bit confused, but Torrie tells him to stop teasing and she grabs the card and starts reading it aloud, but there is just one problem--Kidman didn't send her the flowers. Torrie still thinks he's kidding, but Kidman swears that he's not. So the question is...if Kidman didn't send her the flowers, then who did? (D-)

The Chairman of WCW looked to complete a most impressive return here by defeating Chavo Guerrero Jr. and capturing the Cruiserweight Championship just two weeks after returning at Mayhem. This was an even match, but it looked like LA Parka was a step slow at times, which led Mike Tenay to suggest that maybe LA Parka was a little bit rusty. Chavo Guerrero Senior was a constant distraction at ringside, and Tony noted that Chavo Guerrero Jr. was bad enough on his own, but with his dad out there bending and breaking the rules too, it was too much for anyone to overcome. Unfortunately for LA Parka that proved to be true tonight as well as Chavo Senior hit LA Parka in the back of the head behind the referee's back, which caused LA Parka to let his guard down just long enough to allow Chavo Guerrero Jr. to hit the Gory Bomb and get the pinfall for yet another successful title defense.

Chavo Guerrero Jr. defeated LA Parka at 6.14 by pinfall with a Gory Bomb after Chavo Guerrero Senior got involved. Chavo Guerrero Jr. retains the WCW Cruiserweight Championship (C-)

Following yet another successful title defense in the ever-growing reign of Chavo Guerrero Jr., the announcers talk about his lengthy reign as champion as Chavo Guerrero Jr. has been Cruiserweight Champion for more than a year now, but most of Chavo's title defenses, just like tonight against LA Parka, has happened in controversial fashion. They talk about Starrcade and about who might step up to face Chavo at the Granddaddy of them all, and they wonder if anyone will ever be able to defeat Chavo Guerrero Jr. for the Cruiserweight Championship.

The owner of WCW, Eric Bischoff, makes his way down to the ring alongside the two men who put an end to Goldberg's streak at Mayhem, "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner and Ray Traylor. The trio enters the ring to nothing but boos from the crowd, and Eric Bischoff gets on the mic as the crowd showers Bischoff with "Goldberg" chants. Bischoff smiles and says that it says a lot about the people of Tulepo, Mississippi, that they are all chanting the name of a loser. Bischoff says that Goldberg LOST at Mayhem, and he is such a sore loser that nobody has seen or heard from him since (and apparently conviniently forgetting that it was Bischoff himself who banned Goldberg from Nitro last week). Bischoff tells the fans sit down and be quiet because "The Genetic Freak" Scott Steiner has something that he would like to say. Bischoff hands the mic to Steiner, who yells at the fans to shut the hell up, or he will shut them up! Steiner says that Goldberg is nothing but a coward and a bitch, because if he was any kind of a man he would be here right now, on his knees, admitting that "Big Poppa Pump" is the most dominant man in the business today. But instead he is hiding in some hole somewhere, too ashamed to even show his face--which is probably a good thing because if Goldberg was here right now, Steiner would kick his ass all over this ring again! Steiner hands the mic off to Ray Traylor, but before Traylor can speak, the big screen suddenly comes to life, and when the static clears we can see that we are outside in the parking lot area where a car has just pulled up. The door swings open and out steps...

IT'S GOLDBERG!!! GOLDBERG IS HERE!!!!

Goldberg heads into the building as Eric Bischoff looks more than a little uncomfortable in the ring. The "Goldberg" chants are louder than ever, and then.....(C+)

Goldberg's music hits and the fans go absolutely crazy. Steiner and Ray Traylor are preparing themselves for a fight in the ring, while Bischoff stares at the big screen with horror in his eyes...

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/BillGoldberg2.jpg

Goldberg makes his way out from the back and the horror on Bischoff's face increases almost as much as the cheers from the fans do. But Goldberg isn't coming alone as...

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Sting%20%2042.jpg

None other than the man called Sting is coming down to the ring side by side with "The Man". Goldberg and Sting hit the ring and a huge brawl erupts as Scott Steiner and Ray Traylor pounce of them as soon as they enter the ring. Eric Bischoff quietly slips out of the ring amidst the chaos, and he motions to the back for security to come out. The four men are still going head to head in the ring as a small army of security guards hurry down the entrance ramp and into the ring. The guards create a wall between Sting and Goldberg and Scott Steiner and Ray Traylor, and Bischoff is calling to Steiner and Traylor to leave the ring. Traylor does so, but Steiner looks like he still wants to fight, but Bischoff finally manages to convince "Big Poppa Pump" to leave the ring. Sting and Goldberg stand tall in the ring as Goldberg points to both Ray Traylor and Eric Bischoff and tells them that they are both next! (B-)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/RicFlair2.jpg

We head to the back where "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair is cutting a promo. Flair talks about the first ever Elimination Chamber, saying that he is going to defeat Booker T tonight, earn himself a spot in the chamber and once again become the WCW World Heavyweight Champion at the biggest event of the year; Starrcade. Flair says that he's been working to get a World Title shot for months now, and to now have the opportunity in the palm of his hand...it just means that tonight is going to be a very good night for "The Nature Boy".

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/ScottHall_zps51f8a47e.jpg

Flair is suddenly interrupted when Scott Hall walks in and gets right in Flair's face, much like Flair did to Scott Hall during an interview last week. Hall says he thinks Flair might be celebrating a little early because he doesn't think "Naitch" has what it takes to beat Booker tonight--hell, Hall doesn't think that Flair has what it takes to be "The Man" anymore. Flair says that Hall doesn't know what he's talking about, and he warns him that he should be careful about what he says. Hall just smiles and tells Flair to prove him wrong...but he doubts that he'll be able to. Hall then walks off and Flair looks absolutely livid! (B-)

Another spot in the US Title match at Starrcade was on the line in this one as the winner would join Chuck Palumbo and two other yet-to-be-determined men in the fourway matchup at Starrcade. This was a solid matchup and all four men had their moment to shine during the course of this one. The finish to this one came after an exciting sequence where Rick Steiner hit a Steinerdriver on Shane Douglas, but then as he got to his feet he walked right into a BK Bomb from Billy Kidman. Kidman then went up top looking for the Shooting Starr Press, but Sean O'Haire shoved him off the top rope and he landed hard outside the ring. O'Haire then quickly scaled the top rope himself and hit a SeanTon Bomb on Rick Steiner to pick up the win and advance to the US Title match at Starrcade.

Following the match we cut to the back where "The Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett and Cheerleader Melissa are seen walking. Tony notes that we still have two huge matchups coming up on Monday Nitro as Jeff Jarrett faces Kevin Nash and Booker T faces Ric Flair, with the winners of both matches earning a spot in the first ever Elimination Chamber match at Starrcade for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/DiamondDallasPage_1.jpg

Diamond Dallas Page suddenly walk up to Jarrett and Melissa, and neither of them seem to happy to see DDP. Jarrett asks what the hell DDP thinks he's doing here, and Page sarcastically says that he's there to wish Jarrett good luck in his match tonight, saying that if Jarrett's as good as he says he is, he won't have any trouble beating Kevin Nash tonight...right? Page then starts laughing, saying that Jarrett's in a world of trouble tonight because he's got it on good authority that Nash is pissed off, and he certainly wouldn't want to be in Jarrett's boots tonight. Jarrett says that DDP's little games won't work on him--he's too smart to fall for DDP's cheap tricks. And if Page isn't careful, once Jarrett is done with Kevin Nash, he might just come looking for DDP. Jarrett then walks off as Tony Schiavone hypes the fact Jeff Jarrett versus Kevin Nash is coming up next! (B)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Shawn%20Michaels%202.jpg

Before we get to that match, however, the music of the WCW World Heavyweight Champion suddenly starts blasting throughout the arena as the champion himself, Shawn Michaels, makes his way out from the back, with the World Title strapped around his waist, to nothing but boos from the crowd. Tony is quick to wonder what Shawn is going out here as he was not scheduled to be out here, but Jerry Lawler quickly replies that the WCW World Heavyweight Champion can go wherever he wants and he certainly doesn't need anybody's permission to come down to the ring. Shawn enters the ring and does his trademark pose before calling for, and receiving, a mic. Shawn says that he knows that everybody is all worked up about the Elimination Chamber qualifiers, and the Elimination Chamber match itself, but he's out here tonight to give them a bit of a spoiler. You see, it doesn't matter who wins the qualifiers, and it doesn't matter who advances to the Elimination Chamber, because no matter who he faces at Starrcade...Shawn Michaels is gonna go down in history as the winner of the first ever Elimination Chamber match, and nobody can do anything to stop him. Shawn says that he's gonna sit right there at ringside for these next two matches, and he's gonna watch Kevin Nash, Jeff Jarrett, Booker T and Ric Flair put it all on the line for a chance to realize their dream...and then at Starrcade...he's going to take the winners of these matches, take their dreams...and grind them into dust! Shawn then drops the mic and takes a seat at ringside as the next match is about to get underway. (B)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/JeffJarrett.jpgw/http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/CheerleaderMelissa.jpgvs.http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Kevin%20Nash%20Long.jpg

Jeff Jarrett was able to take control early on in this one as Kevin Nash was distracted by the antics of Shawn Michaels outside the ring, which allowed Jarrett jump Nash from behind and immediately start to go to work on the legs of the bigger, stronger Nash. Jarrett was relentless in his attack, wasting absolutely no effort and focusing all of his offense on Nash's legs, while Cheerleader Melissa attempted to lead the crowd in a cheer for Jarrett, but the attempt was unsuccessful, to say the very least, as the crowd as firmly behind "Big Sexy". Nash was finally able to get some offense in when Jarrett had him backed into the corner as Jarrett stood on the second rope and rained punches down on Nash, when Nash was able to grab Jarrett by the throat and hit a chokeslam. From there Nash took control of the match, hitting a series of knees and elbows on Jarrett in the corner, a snake yes, and then a sidewalk slam. Shawn Michaels was back to his feet at ringside, watching on with a look of concern on his face as Tony and Mike both speculated that the World Champion probably did not want Kevin Nash to advance to the Elimination Chamber, given the recent history between them. Nash unloaded on Jarrett with a few more punches, before hitting a vicious elbow to the back of Jarrett's head. As Shawn Michaels was seen whispering something into Cheerleader Melissa's ear, Nash put Jeff Jarrett in the corner placed his huge boot right in the throat of Jarrett, choking him, and breaking the hold at the referee's count of four. Nash then whipped Jarrett into the ropes, hit a big boot, and then called for the Jackknife! But Cheerleader Melissa was suddenly on the apron, distracting the referee, and...

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Shawn%20Michaels%202.jpg

Shawn Michaels slid into the ring behind Nash and waited for him to turn around as, apparently, he had some Sweet Chin Music for "Big Sexy". Sensing someone behind him, Nash turned around and....SWEET CHIN MUSIC!!!!! Shawn Michaels connected perfectly with the Sweet Chin Music, but not on Kevin Nash, as Nash was able to get out of the way, and Shawn hit Jeff Jarrett instead, who had just made it back to his feet. Michaels locked eyes with Nash, who was more than eager to get his hands on the World Champion, but Michaels quickly bailed out of the ring and retreated back up the ramp. Nash then pulled Jarrett to his feet, set him up for the Jackknife Powerbomb and then, right before delivering the move, Nash pointed to Michaels as if to say "this is your future" and then he hit a devastating Jackknife Powerbomb on Jarrett and picked up the win.

Kevin Nash defeated Jeff Jarrett at 12.16 with a Jackknife Powerbomb following botched interference by Shawn Michaels. Kevin Nash advances to the Elimination Chamber match at Starrcade (C+)

The match is over and Kevin Nash has officially qualified for the Elimination Chamber match at Starrcade, joining Shawn Michaels and Scott Steiner, but Nash isn't done yet as he points back up at Shawn Michaels, who stands at the top of the ramp, and invites him to come back into the ring. The crowd loves that idea, but Shawn Michaels has no intention of getting back into the ring with Nash here tonight. As the two of them stare each other down, Tony Schiavone notes that whether Shawn Michaels likes it or not, he won't be able to run from Kevin Nash forever now that Nash has qualified for the Elimination Chamber. (B-)

Both men came into this one determined to earn themselves a shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair has been chasing a title shot for months, and Booker T had to agree to vacate his WCW United States Championship in order to be given this opportunity. "The Nature Boy" controlled the early goings of this one, using a mix of technical wrestling and submission holds to his advantage, but when the match spilled outside it changed into a brawl, which suited Booker T much better than Ric Flair. Booker took the fight to Flair, hitting several big moves, but every time Booker managed to build some momentum, Flair would turn the tide back in his favor by utilizing a cheap trick, proving once again that he is indeed "The Dirtiest Player In The Game". After hitting a low blow behind the referee's back, Flair took Booker down with a vertical suplex and set up for the Figure Four Leglock, but Booker just barely managed to keep Flair from locking him in his finishing move. Booker fought his way back to a vertical base and whipped Flair against the ropes, only to find that both men were thinking the same thing, and then both men were down following a double clothesline as the announcers put over the efforts of both men here in this terrific Monday Nitro main event.

And that was when Scott Hall suddenly made his way down to ringside, prompting Tony, Mike and Jerry to all wonder what Hall was doing out there. Flair got back to his feet first and noticed Hall at ringside, and he was not happy to see him out there. Hall mocked Flair from the floor, wiggling his fingers at him and even throwing his toothpick right into Flair's face. Flair was absolutely livid, but Scott Hall merely pointed at something behind Flair, urging him to turn around. Flair finally did so, only to be rocked by several right hand shots from Booker T. Booker whipped Flair into the ropes and hit a huge spinebuster, then broke out a spin-a-roonie to get back to his feet. Booker then kicked Flair in the midsection and hit the Axe Kick, followed up by the Bookend, and that was enough for the three count, the win, and a spot in the Elimination Chamber match at Starrcade!

Booker T defeated Ric Flair at 14.16 by pinfall with a Bookend after Flair had been distracted by Scott Hall. Booker T advances to the Elimination Chamber match at Starrcade (B)

The match is over and Booker T is going to Starrcade, but Booker doesn't look happy with Scott Hall's antics here tonight. Tony and Mike both agree that you can't fault Booker for taking advantage of Flair being distracted, but the fact remains that Scott Hall had no business being out here. Jerry Lawler, on the other hand, declares in an outraged tone of voice that Scott Hall just screwed over "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair!

As Scott Hall makes his way back up the ramp, we get one final shot of Booker T standing tall in the ring as Tony Schiavone notes that Booker T is heading to Starrcade to compete in the first ever Elimination Chamber match for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

And with that, Monday Nitro comes to an end.
