WCW: The Quest For The Lost Glory

Recommended Posts

So this will be my third attempt at this (and my final attempt for now as I'm determined to stick with this one for the long haul) so here goes:

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/WCW5.jpg

It was the news that shocked the world of professional wrestling, a literal last second rescue as Vince McMahon was prepared to buy WCW and put an end to the organization's historic run, when Eric Bischoff made the surprising announcement that he had bought WCW and that the company would indeed live on.

But what does the future hold for the company that once dominated the Monday Night Wars? Will the company be able to recover from the mismanagement that is has suffered over the past years and reclaim it's position as a legitimate challenger to the mighty WWF? Or will they repeat the same mistakes of the past that ultimately lead the company to the brink of extinction?

Can WCW recover from it's near-death experience and rise from the ashes stronger than ever? Or is the company simply too damaged to ever thrive again?

For now one thing remains certain.....WCW....lives!

Following the announcements of WCW's survival as well as new TV and PPV deals it seemed as though there was going to be no end to the good news, but as Eric Bischoff looks to rebuild WCW it has now become official that not everybody will be coming along for the ride. With less money available to spend and less TV time to showcase their talent, it was perhaps inevitable that roster cuts would become a necessary evil for WCW and that day has now arrived as we can confirm that the following people have been released from their WCW contracts as of today:</p><p> </p><p>

Ron Harris</p><p>

Don Harris</p><p>

The First show of the new era of WCW starts off with in-ring action between the young team of Air Raid, Air Styles and Air Paris, against a team of veteran's and tag team experts in Rick Steiner and Road Warrior Animal. It was a match that saw the bigger and stronger veteran's taking it to the youngsters for the majority of the match, but with Air Raid constantly fighting back just when Steiner and Animal thought they had the match under control. The finish came when Rick Steiner, frustrated at not being able to put the young team away, used the ropes for leverage to score a pinfall on Air Paris and win the match for his team.

Road Warrior Animal and Rick Steiner defeated Air Raid at 7.18 when Steiner pinned Paris while using the ropes for leverage. (D+)

WOOOOOOOO!!!!!

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/RicFlair2.jpg

Ric Flair's music and the legend himself makes his way down to the ring with a serious expression on his face. Flair gets on the mic and says that for years he carried this company on his back, long before Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan and everyone else ever thought about coming to WCW, he was the man. Flair says that it is because of unworthy and unfit champions that this company almost went under and he is not about to let that happen again. Flair then turns his attention to the current WCW Champion, Booker T, and says that what this company needs in order to succed is to have a worthy champion, someone who looks like a champion, talks like a champion and walks like a champion, and not some common street thug. Flair then goes on to issue the challenge to whoever wins tonights main event, officially challenging them to a match at the Great American Bash for the WCW World Title. ©

The second match of the night saw Fit Finlay go one on one with the youngster James Storm in a US Title Tournament qualifying match and Finlay, who is coming off a minor injury, showed absolutely no sign of ring rust as he dominated the majority of the match and put James Storm away with a Tombstone Piledriver.

Fit Finlay defeated James Storm at 4.31 with a Tombstone Piledriver. Finlay advances to the US Title Tournament. (D+)

The third was of the night was another US Title tournament qualifier between Crowbar and Chris Harris and while this match wasn't much longer than the first qualifying match it was a much more even one that went back and forth until Crowbar finally scored the victory with a Northern Light Suplex.

Crowbar defeated Chris Harris in 4.36 with a Northern Light Suplex. Crowbar advances to the US Title Tournament. (D)

Mean Gene is backstage with Jeff Jarrett who will be challenging Booker T for the WCW World Title later tonight. Double J says that the new era of WCW is his era and he is not going to waste any time stepping into the spotlight that he so richly deserves. Jarrett says that after he beats Booker T tonight and becomes the new WCW World Champion, he would be more than happy to teach that slapnut Ric Flair a lesson at The Great American Bash! ©

The third and final US Title Tournament qualifier of the night saw Lance Storm go one on one with Norman Smiley in a match that had Storm in the drivers seat for the majority of the time but Smiley kept finding his spots to fight back. In the end Storm put Smiley away by locking in the Canadian Maple Leaf for the tap out.

Lance Storm defeated Norman Smiley at 6.47 by submission. Lance Storm advances to the US Title tournament. (D)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/ScottSteiner.jpg

Scott Steiner's music hits and Big Poppa Pump makes his way down to the ring. Steiner demands a mic and quickly receives one and Steiner then proceeds to scream into the mic about not being booked for tonights show. Steiner rants about how he is the biggest star in the company and eventually demands that Eric Bischoff come down to the ring to explain himself but, as another music hits, Steiner is surprised to find that it is not, in fact, Eric Bischoff's....

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/Sting3.jpg

The crowd is on their feet as the man called Sting makes his way down to the ring and Steiner is visibly pissed off inside the ring. Sting gets on the mic and tells Steiner that he doesn't get to make demands anymore--that time is over. Sting says that it is time for WCW to start doing things the right way and that means that people should EARN the things they want, not just get them handed to them because they are in good with management. This comment sets Steiner off and he attacks Sting who quickly fights back and a wild brawl ensues that is only stopped when numerous officials hit the ring to seperate the two men. (C+)

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/KevinNash2.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/DiamondDallasPage.jpg vs. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/BuffBagwell2.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/LexLuger5.jpg

The fifth match of the night pitted The Insiders against Totally Buffed with a shot at the WCW Tag Team Titles on the line. The match was even throughout with neither team able to hold the advantage for any serious duration of time. In the end it was The Insiders who came out on top as DDP hit the Diamond Cutter on Lex Luger for the win.

The Insiders defeated Totally Buffed at 9.42 when DDP pinned Lex Luger. The Insiders become the number one contenders to the Tag Team Titles. ©

The match is over and The Insiders are celebrating in the ring but their celebration is cut short as the Natural Born Thrillers music hits and the entire group makes their way out onto the stage.

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/SeanOHaire2001.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/ChuckPalumbo.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/MarkJindrak.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/ShawnStasiak.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/MikeSanders.jpgw/http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/StacyKieblerHeel.jpghttp://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/TorrieWilson.jpg

The group slowly makes it way toward the ring while Nash and DDP ready themselves for another fight. The Thrillers circle the ring for a moment, waiting for exactly the right time to strike while Nash and DDP are challenging them to come into the ring. Then, timed to perfection, all five men hit the ring at the same time and while Nash and DDP fights off the first couple of guys the numbers game eventually catches up with them as the Thrillers get the upper hand and beats the Insiders down. With Nash and DDP down, the entire Natural Born Thrillers stable poses above their fallen rivals with smiles on their faces. (D+)

Mean Gene is backstage with WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Booker T. Booker says that he heard what Jeff Jarrett said and he heard what Ric Flair said earlier, but Booker doesn't care. Booker says he earned the WCW World Title, he IS the WCW World Champion and he has every intention of being a fighting champion. So he will face Jarrett tonight, he will face Flair at The Great American Bash and he'll face anyone at any time...because that's the kind of champion that Booker T is. ©

The main event of the night saw Booker T put his WCW Title on the line against Jeff Jarrett in what would turn out to be the best match of the night. Both men brought their A-game with them and it resulted in an intense back and forth contest that saw both men score several near-falls before Booker T finally managed to put Jarrett away with a Harlem Hangover.

Booker T defeated Jeff Jarrett at 14.36 with a Harlem Hangover. Booker T retains the WCW World Championship.

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Monday Nitro Preview</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/WCWNitro4.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Last weeks Monday Nitro was highlighted by the crowning of new number one contenders to the WCW Tag Team Titles as well as Booker T's successful World Title defense against Jeff Jarrett. This weeks Monday Nitro see's the continuation of the quest for the US Title with three more US Title Tournament qualifying matches set to take place as "The Cat" Ernest Miller takes on the Disco Inferno, Hugh Morrus takes on "Prime Time" Elix Skipper and Natural Born Thrillers member Mike Sanders facing off against the veteran "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan.</p><p> </p><p>

Last week on Nitro the Insiders, Kevin Nash and Diamond Dallas Page, defeated Totally Buffed to earn the right to face Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo for the Tag Team Titles, but paid the price after the match as they were taken out by the Natural Born Thrillers. This week on Nitro, The Insiders takes on not the tag team champions, but their allies and stablemates in the team of Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak. Will The Insiders pick up another win? Or will Jindrak and Stasiak succeed in softening up the Insiders before they receive their shot at the tag team titles?</p><p> </p><p>

"The Nature Boy" Ric Flair will be in action as well as he takes on Dustin Rhodes in one on one action. Last week on Nitro Ric Flair issued a challenge to whoever won the main event World Title match between Booker T and Jeff Jarrett, claiming that WCW needed him as champion in order to succeed, and Flair could certainly do a lot to prove his own point by picking up a win in this match, but you can be sure that Dustin Rhodes will be doing everything he can to defeat the Nature Boy and put himself right in the middle of the title hunt.</p><p> </p><p>

This weeks main event is a match worthy of not only Monday Nitro, but of a pay per view event as well as the man called Sting takes on "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner. This issue began last week on Nitro when Steiner voiced his unhappiness at not being booked on the show which led Sting to come down to the ring and tell Steiner that the days of people having things handed to them in WCW was over. Enraged, Steiner attacked Sting and a huge brawl ensued that ended only when the two men were seperated by numerous officials. Two of the biggest stars in WCW go head to head and you have to think that the winner will take a huge step toward earning himself a shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.</p><p> </p><p>

And on top of all of this WCW owner, Eric Bischoff, will be making his first appearance on Nitro following his successful purchase of WCW. Bischoff has vowed to address not only Ric Flair's challenge to Booker T, but he will also set the official date at which The Insiders will receive their Tag Team Title shot against the Natural Born Thrillers.</p><p>

Jim Duggan vs. <em>Mike Sanders</em> - US Title Tournament Qualifier</p><p>

<em>Duggan is an occasional wrestler, likely on time decline, while Sanders, if you get him taught some better skills, can help lead the future. Unless you need another face in teh tournament, Mike takes it.</em></p>

Scott Steiner vs. Sting

Ric Flair vs. Dustin Rhodes

Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak vs. The Insiders

I think in 6-8 months these guys should hopefully be on the Insiders' level, but not quite yet. They're just an obstacle at the moment.

Ernest Miller vs. Disco Inferno - US Title Tournament Qualifier

Always liked The Cat. Not The Kat.

Hugh Morrus vs. Elix Skipper - US Title Tournament Qualifier

Not just yet Elix.

Jim Duggan vs. Mike Sanders - US Title Tournament Qualifier

This is interesting as I can see you going with Duggan since this is right off the bat. But I picked the veteran in the second tourney qualifier, so I'm going with Sanders here.

Just read through the first show. Some good stuff here! It seems realistic enough for me. This looks promising. I chuckled at Buff Bagwell's hat in that picture you used.
