WCW: The Quest For The Lost Glory

Recommended Posts

Good show man just started reading, the Flair segment is a bit of a wonder though, could be due to his very low pop in this mod, I personally don't think Flair was ever any lower than A or B+ pop no matter how much he lost so I'd put it down to that, luckily having great entertainment skills should make it easy to get him back up to that level, KUTGW.

<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Monday Nitro Preview</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Last night's Bash At The Beach saw a new Cruiserweight Champion crowned in Chavo Guerrero Jr. as well as new Tag Team Champions in The Insiders, while the WCW World Champion, Booker T, managed to retain his title against Ric Flair and Scott Steiner became the new number one contender to the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. But there are more than a few unanswered questions as we head into Monday Nitro. Who is behind the mysterious "soon" videos that have played repeatedly during the past several weeks? What was Scott Hall doing at Bash At The Beach and what will Diamond Dallas Page have to say about Hall's involvement in the Tag Team Title match? Where does Ric Flair go from here now that he can never again challenge for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship? And now that the loose cannon "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner is the number one contender to the WCW World Championship what does that mean for Booker T?</p><p> </p><p>

This weeks edition of Monday Nitro is headlined by a huge tag team match as WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Booker T, teams up with Sting to take on Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell, Totally Buffed. Lance Storm faces Hugh Morrus to finally crown a new United States Champion and "The Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett goes one on one with Dustin Rhodes. The Natural Born Thrillers had a horrible night at Bash At The Beach as Mike Sanders was eliminated from the US Title tournament and Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo lost the Tag Team Titles to the Insiders amidst controversy, tonight the Thrillers tries to get back on track as O'Haire, Palumbo and Sanders face Fit Finlay, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and Norman Smiley in six man tag team action. Also on the show the number one contender to the WCW World Title, Scott Steiner, takes on "The Cat" Ernest Miller and Air Raid faces Road Warrior Animal and Rick Steiner in a rematch from last night's Bash At The Beach after Animal and Rick Steiner asked for, and was granted, the match by WCW Owner, Eric Bischoff.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Steiner and Animal dominated the early parts of the match with their rough and tough offense but, just like at Bash At The Beach, Air Raid fought their way back into it by quickening the pace. The Cat did what he could but, in the end, the sheer power and strength of Big Poppa Pump proved to be too much for The Cat to handle as he eventually tapped out to the Steiner Recliner.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Scott Steiner defeated Ernest Miller at 5.45 when Miller tapped out to the Steiner Recliner. © </strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/DiamondDallasPage.jpg</span><p> </p><p> </p><p> "Self High Five" hits and the arena goes absolutely crazy as Diamond Dallas Page makes his way down to the ring carrying one of the WCW Tag Team Title belts. DDP says that after watching a tape of last night's Tag Team Championship match he is not a happy man. He says that he does things straight up and that he doesn't play games and the last thing he wanted last night was to win the Tag Team Championships by cheating but, thanks to Scott Hall, that is exactly what he did. DDP then says that he wants some answers and demands that Kevin Nash come down to the ring to explain himself. A few moments pass and then the familiar wolf howl is heard throughout the arena as the Wolfpac theme starts playing.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/KevinNash2.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Kevin Nash slowly makes his way to the ring carrying the other Tag Team Title belt. Nash says that he had no idea Scott Hall would be at Bash At The Beach last night, and he certainly didn't know that Hall was going to get involved in their match. DDP says that doesn't believe him, that Nash and Hall are all but inseparable, and that Nash didn't seem to hesitate for a second before taking advantage of Hall's interference. Nash says that he simply saw an opportunity and he took it. Just as DDP was about to say something the nWo music starts playing and Scott Hall walks out onto the stage to a huge, albeit mixed, reaction from the crowd.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/ScottHall2.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Scott Hall</strong>: Hey yo!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> The crowd pops hugely for that.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Scott Hall</strong>: Guess who was just in Eazy E's office signing his brand new WCW contract...that's right, the badguy!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> The crowd pops again.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Scott Hall</strong>: Oh and DDP....you're welcome!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> DDP is furious in the ring while the announcers talk about the arrogance of Scott Hall. Goldberg makes his way down to the ring while, in the ring, Flair is a mix of confusion and outrage at this interruption. Goldberg enters the ring and Flair goes to speak, but before Flair can say a word, Goldberg charges at him and.....SPEAR!!!! Goldberg damn near broke Flair in half with his signature spear. Bischoff says that it is in the best interest of the fan's that both Booker and Steiner are at their very best when they square off for the title, and that it is in WCW's best interest to do what is best for their fans. <p>Nitro is up. Obviously there were some very disappointing segments on this show, mainly the Flair/Goldberg and DDP/Nash/Hall ones but also the Booker/Sting and even to some extent the Jeff Jarrett promo. Like I said, I'm definitely going to pay close attention to what people are rated on in my segments cause something seems off.</p><p> </p><p>

Next Nitro card will be up shortly and, as always, feedback and comments are both welcomed and appreciated.</p>

We can now confirm that WCW has added three more names to the seemingly ever-growing list of WCW roster cuts. The three people released this time are;</p><p> </p><p>

Johnny Ace</p><p> </p><p>

Road Warrior Animal is said to have been very vocal about his unhappiness over how he has been booked over the past month and his release is said to be a direct result of that. Johnny Ace's release is connected to that as well, while "Mean" Gene Okerlund's release is said to be due to management simply not being satisfied with his work.</p><p>

<p>Following this a bit, but with cutting the roster to suit the "success", makes it a bit less interesting. I always think it's a challenge to give "okay" workers a chance, or see how they work out, even if they're on PPA contracts. </p><p> </p><p>

As much as I love the game, it's not about winning, it's about having fun.</p><p> </p><p>

Good work so far....still, I'm want to root for The Gambler or someone here and most of these have been cut out of their contracts.</p>

<p>Are you playing with momentum and gimmick effects on? Especially for the Flair/Goldberg segment, Goldberg starts with HORRIBLE momentum in this mod. Mean Gene is the same way, every segment he'll be in gets dinged for his low momentum, popularity, and gimmick. While I do agree with BlueStar to an extent, as in a diary sometimes its most fun to see someone try to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, I also understand a lot of the cuts you've made, as you're trying to build rather than be bogged down.</p><p> </p><p>

I am playing with momentum and gimmick effects on, yes. I suspected that might have something to do with it but I didn't think the hit would be that bad. It's nice to know why it's happening though, so thanks for that, Beejus! :)

As for the roster cuts, one of the main reasons behind them was that WCW's roster was simply way too bloated. Nitro is currently one and a half hours long so it would be impossible to showcase everyone and it would only lead to a bunch of unhappy people on my roster (a problem I'm still having, although to a much lesser extent)

Week 3, July, 2001

Live from the Colorado State Fair Center in Pueblo, Colorado

Attendance: 8.023

This weeks edition of Monday Nitro started off with in-ring action as the man who has been stalking Dustin Rhodes for the past two weeks, Vampiro, faced off against the promising young cruiserweight, Jamie Noble. It was a match that was dominated by Vampiro except for a brief but impressive flurry of offensive from Noble. Vampiro regained control however and hit the Nail In The Coffin for the win.

Vampiro defeated Jamie Noble at 3.40 by pinfall (D)

As soon as the match is over Dustin Rhodes' music hits and Rhodes marches down to ringside with a determined expression on his face to a decent pop from the crowd. Rhodes gets on the mic and says that it is about time he actually gets to see Vampiro face to face instead of being blindsided by him like the previous two weeks. Rhodes demands that Vampiro tell him why he has been targeting him but Vampiro just laughs at him. Then, suddenly Vampiro lunges forward and attacks Rhodes but this time Rhodes is ready for him and fights back, eventually driving Vampiro out of the ring. The crowd cheers for Rhodes who stand tall in the ring while Vampiro slowly backs up the entrance ramp, still smiling that strange, eerie smile. (D)

We cut backstage where the Natural Born Thrillers are standing by. Mike Sanders takes it upon himself to do the talking and guarantees that the Thrillers will be victorious tonight. In fact, he will lead them to victory because he is not just "above average", he is absolutely outstanding! Sanders smiles confidently while the rest of the Thrillers look less than pleased with Sanders' focus on himself. (C-)

The second match of the night was a huge ten man tag team match that saw the Natural Born Thrillers work together like a well-oiled machine. Frequent tags, effective double team maneuvers and all of it happening with "Absolutely Outstanding" Mike Sanders standing on the apron of the ring, never tagging in. The finish came when Sean O'Haire hit the Widow Maker on Norman Smiley, but before O'Haire could make the cover Mike Sanders tagged himself in, covered Smiley and got the three count for the win.

The Natural Born Thrillers defeated Norman Smiley, Fit Finlay, Jim Duggan and Air Raid at 4.44 when Sanders pinned Smiley. (D-)

We cut backstage to Bam Bam Bigelow's locker room where Bam Bam is seen getting ready for his match later tonight when "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair walks in. Flair tells Bam Bam that he's got a briefcase full of money with his name on it IF he takes Goldberg out tonight. Bam Bam nods, seemingly willing to do Flair's dirty work, and Flair pats Bam Bam on the back, telling him to "Go get him". (C-)

The third match of the night saw Billy Kidman face off against the Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero Jr. in tag team action with each man being allowed to pick his own partner. The announcers noted that Kidman had chosen the one man who probably hated Guerrero as much as he did in Shane Helms, the man Chavo stole the Cruiserweight Championship from. Guerrero, on the other hand, had chosen the WCW United States Champion, Lance Storm, as his partner, a choice the announcers praised as well. The match was an even one with Chavo letting Storm do the majority of the work for their team. The match eventually broke down and in the midst of the chaos Storm was able to lock Helms in the Canadian Maple Leaf and Helms had no choice but to tap out.

Lance Storm and Chavo Guerrero Jr. defeated Billy Kidman and Shane Helms at 6.37 when Storm made Helms tap out. (D-)

Kevin Nash and Scott Hall are backstage where Nash is once again encouraging Hall to make peace with Diamond Dallas Page. Hall tells Nash not to worry because he will beat Diamond Dallas Page at the Great American Bash and reunite the Outsiders as the WCW Tag Team Champions. "Just talk to him" Nash asks and Hall finally agrees to talk to DDP, albeit rather reluctantly. (C-)

Elsewhere in the back Scott Steiner is standing in front of the camera, ready to deliver a message. Steiner says that Booker T should watch the main event closely tonight because what Steiner does to DDP tonight is exactly what he's going to do to Booker T at the Great American Bash. (C+)

The match started off with Mike Tenay reminding everyone of the money offer Ric Flair had made to Bam Bam Bigelow earlier tonight if Bam Bam took Goldberg out. The match was, rather unsurprisingly, a hard hitting one with both men going toe to toe with each other, and while Bam Bam did get some offense in, it wasn't enough to stop "The Man" as Goldberg eventually Speared the hell out of Bam Bam Bigelow and picked up the win.

Goldberg defeated Bam Bam Bigelow at 5.41 by pinfall. (D+)

The match is over and Ric Flair is absolutely livid at ringside! He rips the mic out of the ring announcer's hands and vows that he'll find a way to end Goldberg's carrer. Goldberg jumps out of the ring and chases Flair back up the ramp. (C-)

DDP is backstage warming up for his match later tonight against Scott Steiner when Kevin Nash walks up to him. Just like earlier with Scott Hall, Nash asks DDP to make peace with Hall but DDP says that Nash might as well just save his breath. DDP says that Nash has made his position clear but this is something he has to do. Page then asks Nash to leave so he can get back to his match preparations and is clearly frustrated as he turns around and walks off. ©

Back in the ring WCW World Champion Booker T squared off against Shane Douglas in a decent match. Booker T was the odds on favorite to win but Shane Douglas certainly proved that he is no pushover, putting up quite the fight. In the end the WCW World Champion was victorious as he caught Douglas with the Bookend and scored the pinfall victory.

Jeff Jarrett makes his way down to the ring with a mic in hand. Jarrett says that Sting is nothing but a selfish coward who doesn't care about anyone but himself. Jarrett says he is the future of WCW and Sting knows it, he is just too hung up on himself to accept it. Double J further insults Sting by calling him washed up, saying that Sting knows his glory days are over and he can't stand the fact that Jarrett is just now entering his prime. "Sting is a bitter, jealous old man" Jarrett says.

Sting's music hits and the arena just about explodes as the crowd erupts with cheers for the man called Sting. Sting gets into the ring and stands face to face with Jarrett. Sting says that he respects Jarrett as a competitor, but as a man he leaves a lot to be desired. Sting adds that, if Jarrett has such a problem with him, why doesn't he do something about it? Sting then challenges Jarrett to a match at The Great American Bash, adding that it's time for Jarrett to put up...or shut up. Jarrett gets right in Sting's face and says he accepts the challenge....and then Double J slaps Sting hard across the face and quickly bails out of the ring before Sting can retaliate. Jarrett is smiling and laughing as he quickly makes his way back up the ramp while Sting stares at him from inside the ring. (C-)

This weeks main event saw the seemingly unstoppable "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner face off against one half of the WCW Tag Team Champions, Diamond Dallas Page in a hotly anticipated contest between two of WCW's biggest stars. In what was a very even, back and forth type of a match it looked like DDP had Steiner's number as he was setting up for the Diamond Cutter when suddenly..."Hey Yo, DDP"....

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t1/bigdaddycool2sweet/Euro%20Wrestling/WCW/ScottHall2.jpg

Scott Hall made his way down to the ring while the announcers complained that Hall had no business being out there and DDP made the fatal mistake of taking his eyes off Steiner and instead turn his attention on Scott Hall. Hall said that Nash had encouraged him to make peace with DDP. "And after giving it some serious thought" Hall said "I think...that you should turn around, chico!" Hall then pointed behind DDP and Page, suddenly remembering about Scott Steiner, quickly spun around to find Steiner only to walk right into a Steiner Flatliner! One...two...three!

Scott Steiner defeated Diamond Dallas Page at 13.48 by pinfall following a distraction from Scott Hall. (B-)

All three of these matches are simple mathematics: keep people strong who have the higher profile at the PPV.

Goldberg vs. KroniK - Two on One Handicap Match

Goldberg needs wins to get momentum, so this will go a long way for him... just too bad for Kronik.

Ernest Miller vs. Jeff Jarrett

I've never liked Miller.

Billy Kidman vs. Crowbar

Sad as it is, I don't think Crowbar will go anywhere unless you bring Daffney back for him... and even then it's a long shot.
