Los Angeles Clippers: Instant Changes, Instant Hope? [2002-????]

Recommended Posts

Introduction:

Alright, so I decided to do a dynasty of this game after I unloaded 5 players and 5 draft picks to pick-up only three players to potentially do what the current Clippers franchise has failed to do.....win a NBA Championship. As you might be able to tell from the title, I'm starting in year 2002 and HOPEFULLY creating a franchise that will last for some years. Reason I'm saying hopefully is that I have successfully killed 5 teams in my last 5 games.

So, as "trypio" is doing with his Timberwolves....I also want to do better than the IRL Clippers:

- For the 2002-2003 Season, the Clippers finished in 7th with a record of 27-55 / In-Game, my Clippers went 46-36, finishing in 4th, losing in the First Round of the Playoffs

A look at the Clippers:

  • Total Salary: $40,198,558
  • Cap Room: $101,442
  • Budget Room: $11,718,535

Roster:

Centers:

  • Michael Olowokandi
  • Sean Rooks

Power Forwards:

  • Lamar Odom
  • Chris Wilcox
  • Melvin Ely
  • Cherokee Parks
  • Elton Brand

Small Forwards:

  • Tremaine Fowlkes

Shooting Guards:

  • Michael Jordan
  • Reggie Miller
  • Marko Jaric

Point Guards:

  • Andre Miller

Closing Thoughts:

I need to start going for youth whenever I get some draft picks. Also, I'm weak at both Point Guard and Small Forward. Might add pictures in the future as I'm on the fence about those at the moment. My next post will be when the 2002-2003 Season begins as I already have made my Preseason moves and finished the Preseason.

Thoughts - Ugh....so, with my current roster it seems I CAN do better than the 02-03 Clippers as I am sitting RIGHT in 4th hole at the moment, and RIGHT at 26-25. We are doing better at home [14-9] than on the road [12-16]. <strong>ALSO</strong>... I'm gonna add photos at the start of next season, might make my Preseason...Pre-All-Star Break..Post-All-Star Break...and possibly Post-Season "Reviews" fuller.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Trades:</span></strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

TO GOLDEN STATE - SG Marko Jaric, PF Melvin Ely, & PF Chris Wilcox</p><p>

TO CLIPPERS - SF Mike Dunleavy & PF Guy Rucker</p><p>

Thoughts - As I said earlier, I do need "more" Small Forwards and I managed to find someone who was worth it and as I was looking through the trad menu, Dunleavy. It was....not easy to unload even more this season, but necessary in my opinion. SINCE the trade though, he hasn't REALLY shown it was worth it...we've gone 10-10 in the 20 games since making the trade.</p><p>

<hr></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Injury Report:</span></strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

- January 17th, Elton Brand goes back onto Disabled List with a Pinched Nerve. He is out 19 days.</p><p>

- January 31st, Michael Olowokandi does onto Disabled List with a Jammed Finger. He is out 3 days.</p><p> </p><p>

Thoughts: Ouch...earlier in the season, literally the third game of the year, we lost Elton Brand for 59 days with an injury. He isn't being a reliable PF, thank god we at least have Odom right behind him...</p>

NEW JERSEY NETS are offering Center Dikembe Mutomo for the LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS Shooting Guard Michael Jordan. I am weak at Small Forward, Center, and Shooting Guard depth-wise and am in need of an opinion. Post your thoughts on the trade and tell me if I should do the deed and trade MJ away...</p>

<p>I really like the addition of Dunleavy, have always liked his game.</p><p> </p><p>

As for the MJ/Mutombo trade, I think if Mutombo stays healthy it'd be a good deal defensively, but I remember him always being hurt...</p><p> </p><p>

Hopefully Odom has improved enough to where you can get something good for Brand, as I think he's just a total liability.</p>

I'm a little worried that Odom won't be as good of a rebounder as I'd initially thought now, but between Jermaine and MJ with Reggie and Dunleavy knocking down 3s the offense should be pretty potent. Out of curiosity, what's the setup you're going with? Do you have Reggie starting at SF, or is he the 6th man?

Also, you're right about the playoff comment. What I meant was I see a 2nd playoff series at least barring injuries and whatnot. :D

Thanks for that link, I might use it later. Right now, I'm good with what I've got.

Pre-Seaon / Pre-All-Star Break Reports

Pre-Season Record:

http://i1328.photobucket.com/albums/w534/DanMTheMan/LA%20Clippers/ClippersPre-SeasonRecordfor2003-2004_zpsceaf5120.png

Thoughts – At the time, I thought this was a sign from the NBA Gods. Somehow, my trades were all of a sudden clicking, my center was pulling his weight not getting injured, and we started in such glorious fashion!

<hr>

Pre-All-Star Break Record:

http://i1328.photobucket.com/albums/w534/DanMTheMan/LA%20Clippers/ClippersPre-All-StarBreakRecordfor2003-2004pt1_zpsde72f88c.png

http://i1328.photobucket.com/albums/w534/DanMTheMan/LA%20Clippers/ClippersPre-All-StarBreakRecordfor2003-2004pt3_zpsd549f09f.png

Pre-All-Star Break Standings:

http://i1328.photobucket.com/albums/w534/DanMTheMan/LA%20Clippers/ClippersPre-All-StarBreakStandingsfor2003-2004_zpsfd0a2dc4.png

Thoughts – Already we have to win just one game and we’ve matched the total for the IRL 03-04 Clippers.....wow, what a difference has been made! I am riding high, I just have to hope the injury bug that already hit my team doesn’t hit again.

<hr>

Injury Corner:

  • Andre Miller breaks his foot and is out 64 days [has since returned to the team]
  • Mike Dunleavy sprains his knee and then sprains his ankle right after he returns yet he goes “Day-to-Day” for both injuries
  • Reggie Miller breaks his finger and is out 10 days [has since returned to the team]
  • Michael Jordan came down with Hernia and is out 62 days [still has 50 days left before he returns]
  • Jermaine O’Neal breaks his foot and is out 30 days [is currently “Day-to-Day” but playing]

Thoughts – Why does the injury bug love my team? Is it because of the talent on the court? Is someone on an opposing team summoning evil spirits to infect and wound my players?

<hr>

Before I close this post, if you want to know about ANYONE or ANY OTHER TEAM in the league, just post a question about what’s going on and I’ll try to respond quick!

<p>Ha, got my first same post time here finally <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

This is a really good record given that there's one really dominant player and probably a meh defense. Also, 1.5 games behind first place? <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

As far as injuries, I think it's pretty normal to have guys banged up for a little while, and I'm sure with MJ it's that his body takes longer to recover since he's older. Slightly abnormal that Miller was out so long being only 27, I think him being healthy the rest of the season pays huge dividends as the Clips clinch the division hopefully.</p><p> </p><p>

Can't wait to see how the rest of the season goes!</p>

Thoughts – IRL, the LA Clippers finished at 28-54 and 7th in the Pacific Division.....we finished the Regular Season 21 games better and 1st in the Pacific Division......I think that is all that is needed to be said about my Clippers.</p><p>

<p>Odom's really performed to his potential this season then. awesome <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Woo for Division Title! I was so bummed that the 3 game skid at the end stopped a 50 win season.</p><p> </p><p>

Andre Miller's gotta be at the top of his game to counteract a white hot at this point Bibby (not the corpse of him that's played the last several years) and Odom/O'Neal should dominate their bigs. Past that, assuming San Antonio wins...that's gonna be rough man, but not hopeless!</p>

Oh man, I'd be on the edge of my seat for that game! Clips did better than I'd hoped against the dominant Spurs, but with the young guys progressing more next year...watch out :)

I'm surprised nobody was an all-star or even made all nba 3rd squad...strange

Not sure if you're open to random advice man, but I think a better backup PG would be the best pickup right now. Someone that can manage the game and not turn the ball over when Andre needs rest. Otherwise, keep it coming man, this has been a blast to experience thus far!

Yeah, I was surprised too until I looked at who won the awards. All of the players who are blue for both Current & Potential were winners. My all Blue players were injured for a while during the year so.... And nonsense! I am VERY OPEN to random advice! I haven't had time to advance to the Free Agency yet, so you gave good advice at the perfect moment.

So, for everybody following...if you think of something that might help my team, don't be shy...speak up...and tell me! I am open to all help! :D
