This was his chance to break through against the dominant Cruiserweight Champion. Kidman had a step on Chavo from start to finish, and with Kidman looking for the Shooting Star Press, Chavo was able to slowly roll out of the ring and get counted out to retain his title! Kidman simply looked on as Chavo walked to the back with his belt. RATING: 64 © Notes: 7:47. ____________________________________________ In the back, the camera rushes to find Stevie Richards being beaten down by The Chosen Ones! Jordan, Burke, and Porter put the boots to him on the ground before Rey Mysterio is able to run them off. Mysterio checks on Stevie, who was seemingly randomly attacked by the trio of newcomers. A Tombstone did the trick here. RATING: 80 (B) Notes: 6:09. Crazy’s getting better in the ring. ____________________________________________ Scott Steiner’s music hits and he comes to the ring to grab a microphone with The Undertaker still standing in the ring. As Steiner goes to speak, he instead cracks the microphone over Taker’s head! “Big Poppa Pump” goes after his Judgment Day opponent and lays a good beatdown on him, but Taker is able to toss Steiner over the top rope to the floor! Both men are beaten up, but Steiner seems to have done enough damage to be satisfied, walking back to the locker room. RATING: 88 (B+) Notes: None. ____________________________________________ In the back Mark Henry stands in an imposing manner along with his manager Theodore Long, who trashes Hardcore Holly some more, as well as John Cena. He says that Cena’s a champion, Henry’s beaten a champion, so Henry should be the champion. He says that Holly needs to stop sticking his nose in things that aren’t his business, and that the powers that be in the WWE are afraid to give Mark Henry a big chance because they don’t want him breaking their biggest money makers in half. Cena got a measure of revenge on Mark Henry for his recent loss, taking the early going to him. Henry dominated parts of the match, as did Dupree with underhanded tactics and Holly with hard-hitting offense. The ending came as Henry and Holly brawled, with Dupree blasting Cena with the United States title for the win! Dupree has pinned the United States Champion! RATING: 60 © Notes: 11:20. ____________________________________________ Josh Matthews has Brock Lesnar in the back, who is talking trash about Edge. In Brock’s eyes, Edge is a coward and knows that Brock is going to break him in half so he finds reasons to miss SmackDown whenever he can. In the middle of Brock’s promo, Edge himself appears onscreen in his wrestling gear. He tells Brock to watch out, because once he beats John “Bradshaw” Layfield in the main event, he’s gonna beat the crap out of him next! Edge’s music hits as it’s time for him to make his way to the ring. RATING: 77 (B-) Notes: Both improvised pretty well, this was a decent segment. ____________________________________________ http://i.imgur.com/YqUuruU.jpg vs. http://i.imgur.com/lBbkkXT.jpg Edge vs. John “Bradshaw” Layfield Bradshaw looked impressive in his debut, grounding the man whose motor is always running for a majority of the match. His look may have changed, but his hard-hitting powerhouse brawler style did not. However, John couldn’t finish his opponent off due to Edge’s resilience. As Bradshaw was setting up for the Clothesline From Hell, he noticed his old partner Ron Simmons standing at the top of the ramp with his arms folded. Layfield looked down at him and yelled, asking why he’s here. Simmons just stared down – as Bradshaw turned around into a rib-rattling Spear! Edge made the cover and got the victory. RATING: 78 (B) Notes: 9:45. ____________________________________________ John “Bradshaw” Layfield gets up from the ground as Ron Simmons has approached the ring. He gets inside of it and just looks disappointingly at his old drinking buddy. Layfield is irate, and gets in the face of the stoic Simmons, who shakes his head in disapproval. Layfield shoves him, and Simmons fires back! The two have a brawl which spills to the outside area. Neither man truly gets the upper hand, and they’re broken up by officials! The APA split has officially turned violent. RATING: 46 (D) Notes: Ouch, bad rating. Much worse than the match before it. I probably should’ve included Edge in this angle somehow. ____________________________________________ As we return from break, “Olympic Hero” hits and Kurt Angle is on his way out to the ring to explain his actions. He gets into the ring and he gets a microphone to a massive amount of boos from the crowd. http://i.imgur.com/0eTjKMMs.jpg “Eddie Guerrero is a man who lives by the mantra of lying, cheating, and stealing. The man has made a career off of stabbing people in the back for his own gain. Eddie needed my help two weeks ago and I was there. Eddie needed my help last week…but Eddie Guerrero is a selfish human being, oh it’s true. He never helped me in my time of need. Not only did he lie about our friendship because he is a conniving manipulator, he stole my WrestleMania moment. I, “Your Olympic Hero” Kurt Angle, have too much integrity to be associated with an unsavory character like Eddie Guerrero. And I am going to ensure without a shadow of a doubt that he does not walk out of Judgment Day the WWE Champion.” All of a sudden, Booker T’s music hits and the 5-time WCW Champion comes out to the ring. Still bandaged up, Booker gets a microphone. Angle seems to not know why he’s out there. http://i.imgur.com/f5xpIIrs.jpg “Listen up, man. Two weeks ago, I got jumped from behind by some punk ass and I been tryin’ to find out who it is… and now I know damn well who it was. I got me some video footage from a security camera and I just wanna show the world the man who attacked me…” Booker points to the big screen, where video footage shows Kurt Angle run up behind him and assault him with a chair! He wastes Booker and leaves him down and out, bloodied in the back! We cut back to the ring, where Angle looks a bit unnerved. He begins to plead with Booker, telling him the footage wasn’t very clear and that it couldn’t have been Kurt. “That’s a load of crap, man. It all made sense to me, though when I thought about it. You know Angle, I know you wanted to do what you did last week to Eddie for a long time. So you hit me from behind so you’d be Eddie’s partner against Brock and Big Show. And the rest man, that stuff’s history now ain’t it?” Angle continues to disagree with Booker, telling him he had nothing to do with it. Out of nowhere, Angle attacks Booker, putting him down with a gut buster on his hurt ribs. And I just did it again because I will do whatever it takes to get that title back. Even if it means jumping you from behind and letting Eddie get his butt kicked. The two showed some good partnership, keeping Grenier and Conway on their toes at all times. La Resistance, however, showed the mean streak that they did in their beating of Val last week, holding the match in their favor for quite a bit. The finish here came when Val Venis rolled up Grenier for the win! RATING: 63 © Notes: 7:27. Grenier’s game was a bit off for this matchup. Goldust’s Rumble skills have improved since last we saw him. ____________________________________________ After a commercial break, William Regal is standing in the ring clad in a suit. He has a microphone in his hand, and the ring is set up with two chairs and a coffee table with two cups of tea on it. Regal welcomes us to “Tea Time,” his talk show where he interviews the biggest stars in the WWE. He introduces his first guest as a four time World Champion, a two-time Royal Rumble winner, and the first ever Grand Slam champion in the WWE’s history! His guest, of course, is “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels! You are a cowar--” Michaels begins to assault Regal, hitting him with a flying forearm! He gets right up and goes for the Sweet Chin Music, but flames explode from the top of the ramp! Kane is on his way out to the ring as Michaels diverts his attention from Regal to square up toward the “Big Red Machine.” Kane enters the ring and Michaels throws some punches his way. Kane shrugs him off and throws him across the ring, but can’t finish the job. Michaels escapes underneath his legs and lands a couple of strikes. Kane starts reeling against the ropes, and spots a Sweet Chin Music coming! Kane wants no part of it and rolls out of the ring, slamming on the apron! Michaels squares up and tells the monster to come back as Kane backpedals up the ramp, unsuccessful on this day. Shelton gave Van Dam a run for his money and looked to build upon his win over another veteran in Billy Gunn last week. However, “Mr. Monday Night” was able to put down the youngster after he slipped out of a T-Bone suplex, hit a superkick, and then climbed up top for a Five Star Frog Splash! RATING: 68 (C+) Notes: 12:39. ____________________________________________ In the locker room of Evolution, the crew is pumping up Randy Orton for his match tonight. Triple H goes as far as to say that if he defeats Chris Benoit tonight, then Orton is in line for a title shot at Vengeance! The Intercontinental Champion looks perplexed, and Triple H simply tells him that Evolution’s got his back tonight. RATING: 85 (B+) Notes: Triple H and Flair improvised well, while Batista and Orton struggled in comparison. ____________________________________________ http://i.imgur.com/eosSUO6.jpg vs. http://i.imgur.com/DCSLsjN.jpg Chris Benoit vs. Randy Orton w/Triple H No Disqualification This matchup was one that saw twists and turns. For a nearly 20-minute matchup, these two put on a spectacle on RAW. The World Heavyweight Champion switched from getting involved in the contest to sitting at the commentary table multiple times. As he tried to get involved when Benoit gained some momentum, Benoit hit a suicide dive to the outside! Benoit got up and went after Orton, locking him in the Crippler Crossface! Out of nowhere, Batista and Ric Flair ran down from backstage, getting involved by ganging up on Chris Benoit! They broke up the Crossface and put the boots to him, but soon there was relief for “The Rabid Wolverine” in the form of the World Tag Team Champions! The Dudley Boyz hit the ring and stopped the attack, brawling with Flair and Batista to the outside! “The Game” grabbed Orton’s Intercontinental Championship from the outside and slid it in to the champion. As Orton went for a belt shot, he was intercepted by another superstar – “Y2J” Chris Jericho, looking for revenge from last week! Jericho tackled Orton and hit a series of strikes to his face, and Triple H tried to pull him off. Jericho hit an enzuigiri to the back of the head of Triple H, taking him out! Next, Jericho hit a springboard plancha, landing on Batista and Flair as the Dudleyz were able to move out of the way just in time! The bout ends amidst the chaos, as Orton stumbled up to his feet and he was caught in the Crippler Crossface again! The Intercontinental Champion squirmed around, but with Evolution nowhere around to help him and the ropes far from reach, Orton was forced to tap out! The stipulation heavily favoring Evolution had backfired; Chris Benoit will face Triple H at Vengeance! RATING: 84 (B+) Notes: 19:28. ____________________________________________ The Dudley Boyz get into the ring along with Chris Jericho, holding up the arms of Chris Benoit in victory! Batista pulls Orton out of the ring as he helps him walk to the back along with Evolution. The four victorious men have claimed physical and moral victories over the dominant faction here tonight, with pay-per-view level implications!
