NBA GOD: Rewriting NBA history Part 1

Recommended Posts

So, what's up with the Thunder & Kings? They were in the top 5 at the beginning of the season.

Kings have underachieved this season for some reason. They still have all of their top players and they haven't really regressed. With the season almost over, they are tied with Dallas for the final two playoffs spots in the West.

The Thunder had a bit of an injury bug with both Gilbert Arenas and Dwyane Wade missing over a month each simultaneously, which caused them to slide. However, once they came back, they got on a role. They are tied with the Warriors for the 4th seed in the West.

Some notes:

First time during the Rockets 11 straight year playoff run that they were eliminated in the 1st round.

Also, the first time during that run that they did not make it to at least the Conference Finals.

First time in NBA history that both #1 seeds were eliminated in the first round. You'd have to go back to 1964 to find both #1 seeds eliminated in their first playoff series and that was when they automatically went to the Conference Finals.

For the first time since 1972, the New York Knicks are NBA Champions.

http://i.imgur.com/kLVo2vy.jpg

They easily swept the Thunder, however a big factor in that is Dwyane Wade didn't play in the series due to a broken cheekbone he suffered in the WCF.

--------------

2009-2010 NBA Regular Season Awards:

NBA MVP: Kevin Garnett (Rockets) (6th time)

NBA Defensive Player of the Year: Kevin Garnett (Rockets) (9th time)

NBA Rookie of the Year: Stephen Curry (Wizards)

NBA Most Improved Player: Kevin Love (Clippers)

NBA 6th Man: Chris Webber (Bobcats)

IMO, I think Chris Paul really got screwed in the MVP voting. Him and Garnett had about the same amount of PPG and about the same FG%. Naturally, Garnett averaged double digits in rebounding and Paul in assists. Paul averaged close to 3 steals a game and also helped carry a less talented Pacer team to the #1 overall seed in the East. Plus, Paul won more Player of the Month awards this season.

2009 Hall of Fame inductee:

Sam Cassell (Rockets)

In other news, Steve Nash was a pretty big bust in this game. He retired at the end of this season playing in the D-League. Only 5 All Star appearances and one appearance each on the All NBA First Team and Third Team.

IMO Nash isn't a bust in the game, more like he went NUTS in real life. Maybe there were 1 or 2 less ASG nods than expected, but I think this was pretty much the career arc most expected. Except the playing in the D-League part.

Chris Webber as 6th man? WOW! Now that's a guy who's defying career expectations LOL

Also, I wanted to argue that CP3 got eliminated by the 8th seed... but so did KG. So yeah... CP3 should've won MVP.

BREAKING NEWS:

Gasol Heads West

http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab250/Zac_Sweeney/NBA%20Photoshops/Jersey%20Switches/PauGasolMedium.png

After the disappointment of their playoff exit this past season, the Golden State Warriors are series about a push to compete with the aging Rockets and Thunder in the Western Conference. While some may say that Yao Ming re-signing with the Warriors was big news, the bigger news may be that All Star PF Pau Gasol has agreed to a 5 yr, 66 million dollar contract with the Golden State Warriors.

Gasol is a 7 time All Star and is a definite upgrade over last year's starting PF, Amir Johnson, who is a free agent and will not likely return after Gasol's signing. They showed how serious they were last offseason when they lured Jose Calderon into the fold and he responded by having a career year.

The Warriors won the Pacific Division last season, however lost in the 1st round, partly due to starting SF Danilo Gallinari rupturing his Achilles during their 1st round series, which will keep him out of action until early 2011.

Signing Gasol is what the Warriors think they need to compete against the Rockets and reigning League MVP, Kevin Garnett.

Now, the Magic have a question mark at PF. They can go after an aging Shareef Abdur-Rahim or a slight downgrade in Troy Murphy or take a chance at a younger guy like LaMarcus Aldridge, Tyrus Thomas, or Paul Millsap.

Crazy that Jordan Crawford went ahead of Derrick Favors LOL

Derrick Favors wasn't highly rated and only the Wizards had him having a solid upside.

In fact, outside of the top four picked (and Omer Asik, oddly enough), the rest of the draftees were kinda ho-hum ratings wise.

A lot of them only had yellow/green as their rating (Greg Monroe fluctuated between salmon/green and yellow/green). Only the Cavs had Jeremy Lin with great potential.

I was more shocked that Eric Bledose wasn't higher rated than anything. I'd take him over Vasquez and Lin any day. Yet, he wasn't rated as high the guys drafted before him outside of Ed Davis.

WHAT! Yao-Pau-Gallinari frontline? If you turn injuries off, then they're the favorites, for sure :p

Yeah, noticed Bledsoe, Whiteside, and maybe Avery Bradley going a bit lower than they should've...

Injuries are definitely on and Yao has stayed relatively healthy during his career. He's played in all 82 games all but two years of his career. One season he missed 10 games, the other season he missed 23 games.

I worded that weirdly; I knew you had injuries turned on. Surprised to see Yao being healthy, though. Definitely rooting for the Warriors this season :D
