HBK claims that last week, the Undertaker gave him a wakeup call that was desperately needed. Over the last couple of months Michaels has been taking things easy, playing around with his buddies and acting the fool – the Undertaker made him realise that this is a serious business; especially when the WWF Championship is on the line. HBK knows that he needs to be on the top of his game on January 18th when he goes one-on-one with the Undertaker; he has battled the Phenom before and been taken to hell and back. Michaels is adamant that he will take the threat seriously and rise to the challenge to show why he is the Showstopper, the Main Event and most important of all – the WWF Champion. The lights in the arena suddenly go out; when they return the arena is slowly filling with smoke as a group of druids are slowly walking towards the ring. Through the smoke we finally see that the druids are carrying a casket towards the ring. Michaels is freaking out as the casket gets closer and closer to the ring. Suddenly the lights go out again – this time when they come back the casket is nowhere to be seen. Helmsley and Michaels freak out in the ring, but the Undertaker doesn’t make an appearance – showing that he too can play mind games. Stone Cold is getting bored with sitting in the back watching this crap unfold; he’s had enough and is here to raise a little hell and give the fans something to cheer about. Vince gets visibly upset, but holds it together to politely ask Austin to leave – Stone Cold shakes his head; but Rocky decides the get involved. The Rock gets in Austin’s face and tells him that the People came to see The Rock – Stone Cold glances at the fans, before kicking Rocky in the gut and dropping him with the Stone Cold Stunner. The fans go wild, but Vince looks on in shock – he screams at Austin that he cannot continue running around here like there are no rules. He needs to apologise for ruining Vince’s announcement and jeopardising the company with his actions. Stone Cold looks to the fans again and gives them a knowing smile; before kicking Vince in the gut and dropping him with a huge Stone Cold Stunner in the centre of the ring. He has not defending the belt in over 30 days and the WWF Rule Book states that this constitutes an automatic vacation of the title. Slaughter is in a good mood so will allow HBK the opportunity to fight for his title. Michaels reminds Slaughter that he has had more important titles to defend over the last month – namely the WWF World Heavyweight Championship. Slaughter is well aware of this; but he has a handpicked opponent for the Champion – namely his DX stable mate Triple H. Shawn laughs the suggestion off; making it clear he won’t fight his friend – Helmsley quickly interjects asking if HBK is scared of losing to him? Michaels turns to face Triple H and covers the microphone but mouths “you know I would kick your ass so don’t even go there”. Helmsley looks incensed – he shoves HBK and demands that he takes him seriously; the pair square up to each other and go nose to nose before Slaughter separates them. The Commissioner tells them to cool off and save it for the match; Helmsley is furious and storms out of the ring – JR and Cornette suggest that DX may be bursting apart at its seams. It takes a lucky break to allow Owen back into the match – as he manages to step out of the way of a charging Mankind who clatters into the steps at ringside. Hart sends things back into the ring and controls the pace from there on out – working over the legs of Mankind and keeping him down on the mat, effectively neutralising Mankind’s brawling advantage. Unfortunately for Owen, Mankind gets a second wind and battles back – but just as he hooks Owen up for a Piledriver the young Hart breaks free and quickly exits the ring. Well the best stuff of the month in this diary were probably the Owen Hart return and Austin - McMahon storyline (since Stone Cold is my favorite wrestler <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> ). Both had good promos.

The least exciting has to be Brian Christopher. I would have to say that my favorite thing of the month was Owen - his heel turn is surprising, and I love how it feels natural; he's almost always been a whiny heel, so him staying that way is a great way to go. I can't honestly pick out a favorite match, because you seem to do every match just enough justice yet I'm not sure if just nothing has stood out because we're still semi-close to real life or if it just blends together into a form of awesome that comes from Anderz work <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Glad the Owen turn and the Austin/McMahon confrontations are going down well. It's been fun to write so far. I know that I'm still close to real life at the moment but as I get more shows under my belt and I get longer to put my stamp on things the more my vision will shine through.. I'm not one for changing everything off the bat just for the sake of it. and also, Brian Christopher is not supposed to be a likeable character - so it's good to know you both hate him. He's basically in his position because of Jerry and whether he stays there or not will depend on how he goes on in the ring.. He's surving his purpose so far though as the chickenshit heel of the division - time will tell whether he stays in said position once I get more Light Heavyweight characters over.. I should have the next Raw up pretty soon - probably within the day..

Rocky demands that the title be awarded to him right now by forfeit – but he is interrupted by the arrival of the Lethal Weapon. Blackman is visibly hurt, and has his ribs and mid-section heavily taped up – but he signals to the official that he is ready to go and the match is on. Winner and new WWF Intercontinental Champion: Rocky Maivia with the Rock Bottom at 4:28 Rating: 55 </div> </div> The Rock is handed his Championship belt and celebrates – he turns his attention back to Blackman signalling to D’Lo and Kama to finish what they started earlier in the night. D’Lo and Kama look to put the boots in but Faarooq blocks them – he orders them out of the ring and then squares up to The Rock. He tells him that despite his victory Faarooq is still the leader of the Nation of Domination and he has decided that this is enough – The Rock has made his point and should leave. Rocky is furious and gets in Faarooq’s face – he calls him an old man and suggests that maybe the Nation would be stronger with The Rock in charge. Rocky leaves the ring with his Championship in hand and gets D’Lo and Kama to follow him backstage. Faarooq is left to stand alone in the ring with everyone wondering what the future holds for the Nation. Hart did manage to create enough of a gap to make the tag to Mero – but that would be his last action of the match as he washed his hands of the contest and headed backstage. My 1 show per week target has been missed badly - due to a combination of this next Raw being full of beastly angles in the build up to the Rumble and me being really busy at work..

Michaels insults Slaughter and makes reference to Triple H not being here right now because he’s too busy banging Slaughter’s old lady – but the Sarge quickly tells HBK to drop the funny man routine and take things seriously. Bearer tells the Undertaker that only one man will get burned at the Royal Rumble and that will be the Phenom. Taker doesn’t respond well to this as he walks menacingly towards Bearer – but before he can strike; HBK launches an attack from behind. Michaels lands a few blows but all they seem to do is fuel the Undertaker’s anger as he responds with a vicious uppercut that sends HBK crumbling to the canvas. Undertaker looks to turn his attention back to Bearer but his blindsided by his brother Kane. The Big Red Machine is remorseless in his assault; pummelling away with stiff blows before planting his brother in the centre of the ring with the Tombstone Piledriver. Michaels joins in the attack by putting the boots into the Phenom; but when he suggests to Kane to put Taker into the casket at ringside the big man disagrees. I finally got a chance to sit down and run through this, and it's a lot more accessible to me than your TNA diary was because I'm much more familiar with the company and the period. I like it a lot and I'm excited to read more as you move into 1998.

I'm surprised at the poor ratings you're getting, but then I realized how awful the Attitude Era really was lol. Other than the big moments that most people remember, it really was a jumbled mess but it came across as entertaining. Yours isn't a jumbled mess, but it's definitely got the makings of the Attitude Era feel to it. I can't wait for the Rumble!

And aside from a couple of main eventers I've not got many people over enough to give me great ratings and I'm certainly not putting on the matches to get said ratings as well.. Hopefully my Royal Rumble will pull in some decent numbers - I'll be disappointed if I don't get high 80's overall with HBK/Taker and the Rumble itself.. but we'll see - it's not like the slightly lower than hoped ratings are putting me off.. in a huge shock - I've flown through the next episode of Raw and it's ready to go already..... stay tuned..

Ok, so it's been an absolute age since I last posted (a good 3 weeks) so I can only apologise but a combination of work and a minor operation have meant that the Rumble write-up has taken much longer than anticipated.

I'm very close to finishing the Rumble match itself; then I've just got the WWF Title match to write and to book the show itself in TEW..

all that being said; let this apology also serve as a final call for predictions - expect the show to be posted on Sunday at the latest.

We go live inside the arena as Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler welcome us to the eleventh-annual Royal Rumble and briefly talk about what we expect to see tonight.

The announce team are interrupted by the arrival of the beautiful Sunny who has an announcement of her own – she announces that she is officially the new manager of a hot new tag team. Sunny introduces Chirashi – the pairing of TAKA Michinoku and Jushin Liger – she will be in the corner of TAKA tonight as he goes for the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship in our opening contest.

With a new manager and tag team partner in his corner TAKA took the fight to the Champion with a rapid array of high flying manoeuvres. Too Sexy attempted to ground the Japanese star for several minutes but Michinoku refused to stay down. With Christopher recovering on the outside – Michinoku attempted to steal the show with a topé suicida from the inside the ring over the top rope to the floor. Unfortunately for TAKA the big man on the outside was stalking him – but this did not go unnoticed by Liger. Jushin took the fight to A-Train but was overpowered and sent crashing into the barricade at ringside. TAKA was undeterred as he dragged Christopher to his feet and then planted him up for the Michinoku Driver – just as we looked to have a new Champion though the pinfall was broken up by A-Train. The big man put the boots into TAKA as the bell sounded for the disqualification – he dropped him with the Derailer before helping Christopher to his feet and handing him the title.

We head backstage to the office of the WWF Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter who is standing next to a big tombola full of entry numbers for the Royal Rumble match. Slaughter introduces Terri Runnels to help him draw the numbers for each competitor. Ken Shamrock is the first to draw his number – he takes a long look before smiling. He hands the number back to Terri and she wonders why he’s so happy.

Elsewhere, D-Generation X are talking in their locker room – they are furious with the Undertaker. Michaels vows to make the Phenom pay for injuring Chyna by sending him straight to hell in their Casket match later tonight. JR and King speculate on commentary that Chyna might be on the side lines for an extended period.

The big man starts the match pumped up and he uses this to his advantage when taking the fight to the Bizarre One. But Goldust is a wily competitor and he used every trick in the book – including the assistance of Luna at ringside – to take control of the contest. Vader, however, was determined to overcome everything thrown at him tonight and refused to stay down. Despite Luna causing a distraction to prevent the Vader Bomb – the Mastodon was able to finish things off with a huge Release Powerbomb and finally put his rivalry with the Bizarre One to rest.

During his victory celebration Vader grabs a microphone and tells the fans that now Goldust is out of the way The Mastodon is finally able to get back on the road to the top. He promises to win the Royal Rumble tonight and then squash the WWF Champion with the Vader Bomb at WrestleMania XIV because It’s Time – It’s Vader Time.

We head back to the Commissioner’s Office as Savio Vega is leaving with a big smile on his face; he walks past The Jackyl and his monster Kurrgan. Jackyl grabs a number from Terri and takes a quick look at it – he throws it to the ground and declares that there must be a conspiracy against him and Kurrgan. Terri attempts to apologise but Jackyl is furious and leads the big monster back to their locker room.

In the ring, we are greeted by the WWF Tag Champions the New Age Outlaws – the Road Dogg and Billy Gunn are once again talking about their plans after they have defeated the New Blackjacks. Dogg promises to make light work of the Blackjacks tonight and then one of the Outlaws will win the Royal Rumble. Gunn then makes an open challenge to the rest of the tag team division – anyone can step up for a match any night of the week.

The Blackjacks hit the ring and, as expected, are pissed off by the Outlaws and their comments. Bradshaw starts the match like a wrecking ball and drops both men early and often with stiff shot after stiff shot. The Blackjacks control the match from the early minutes as they isolate Road Dogg with their power game and threaten to end the match on a number of occasions. Luckily for the Champions the Dogg manages to take advantage of an over eager Bradshaw and makes the hot tag to Gunn – who fights fire with fire and attempts to impose his own power game on the Blackjacks. Sensing that Gunn was in trouble his partner slid one of the title belts into the ring before distracting the official on the outside. Gunn took full advantage as he clobbered Windham over the head with the title belt and the Outlaws stole the victory.

After the bell Bradshaw realises what happened and tries to fight both men – but despite the Champions having the numbers advantage it took another shot with a title belt to drop the Texan. The Outlaws put the boots to both Blackjacks until the shock arrival of the Legion of Doom stops them dead in their tracks. Hawk and Animal hit the ring but the Outlaws are nowhere to be seen as they hightailed it out of the ring and to the back via the crowd. The LOD pump up the crowd as the Blackjacks get back to their feet – the two teams show each other respect as they know they have a common enemy.

We head backstage to Kevin Kelly who is stood by with the former Nation of Domination leader Faarooq.

“Kevin; tonight may in fact be the biggest night of my damn career. Ya see, I may have had World title matches in the past and I pray that I have World title matches in the future but tonight is about more than a World title. Tonight is about respect, it’s about relevance; it’s about vindication. If I lose tonight, I am exactly what Rocky Maivia claims that I am – but if I win I am vindicated; I prove that I’m still relevant in this company. Rocky, you can do whatever it is that you want to do to me tonight – but I’ll take it all and throw it right back at ya. By any means necessary Rocky, by any means necessary.”

Back in the Commissioner’s Office and Sunny enters the room with her tag team Chirashi. The duo seem in high spirits despite TAKA’s earlier loss as they receive their numbers from Terri – Sunny takes a quick look and tells her team that it’s going to take something special for the new trio to be in the main event of WrestleMania this year.

We return to the ring to see the arrival of the WWF Intercontinental Champion Rocky Maivia and he has a few choice words for his opponent Faarooq.

“By any means necessary huh? By any means necessary Faarooq – believe me old man it will take everything you have – and The Rock means everything that you have to give you the slimmest of slim chances to beat The Rock tonight. Ya see old man, it’s real simple – The Rock will take his size thirteen boot, shine it up real nice, turn that sumbitch sideways and stick it straight up your candy ass! And after The Rock has beaten you tonight and gone on to win the Royal Rumble match everyone in this arena will be chanting The Rock’s name – if you smell what The Rock is cookin!”

A chorus of “Rocky Sucks” chants rings out throughout the arena as Faarooq makes his entrance.

The Rock makes a bright start to the contest as he draws Faarooq into a war of words at the bell before taking a cheap shot to take the momentum. It isn’t long however until Rocky is taking the beating that he deserves as Faarooq takes control and gives the Champion several stiff shots. Faarooq dominates The Rock for much of the match and goes close to victory after a big Powerslam. The Rock shows great resilience by kicking out at two and then doing the same after Faarooq drops him with a big Spinebuster.

Just as Faarooq signals for the Dominatior, D’Lo Brown and Kama Mustafa rush down towards the ring. Kama leaps onto the apron but is sent back to the floor by a stiff forearm from Faarooq; D’Lo is up next and is greeted by a nasty clothesline that sends him crashing to the floor. But the distraction has done exactly what it needed for The Rock as he is back to his feet waiting for Faarooq to turn around – and when he does he is planted in the centre of the ring with a Rock Bottom. Maivia steals the victory and retains the Intercontinental Championship.

Backstage in the Commissioner’s Office and we see Marc Mero and Sable falling out over the number the Marvellous One has just received for the Rumble match. Jeff Jarrett walks by and thanks Terri for his number – he claims that tonight everyone will see how great he is. The final competitor to receive their number is Mankind who refuses to look at it – he hands it back to Terri and declares that tonight if he is supposed to win the Rumble match he will do it no matter where he enters.

We get a video package highlighting many of the thirty competitors in tonight’s Royal Rumble match. The video ends with the WrestleMania XIV logo – thirty men enter, but only one will continue on the Road to WrestleMania.

In the ring, Howard Finkel introduces the upcoming contest.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, it is now time for the 1998 Royal Rumble Match. Here are the rules; in just a few moments those individuals who drew numbers one and two respectively will enter the ring and the Rumble match will begin. Every ninety seconds thereafter, another Superstar enters the ring according to the number that he drew. Remember that in this contest; it is every man for himself. Elimination occurs when a Superstar is thrown over the top rope and both feet must touch the floor. The individual who remains in the ring after all competitors have been eliminated will be declared the Winner of the Royal Rumble Match and will go on to WrestleMania XIV for a World Wrestling Federation Championship Match.”

Owen is furious when he realises that his rival Shamrock has drawn number two – now we know why Ken was so happy earlier in the night. Shamrock goes right on the offensive; but Owen does everything in his power to avoid the wrath of the World’s Most Dangerous Man for 90 seconds until the third entrant makes his way into the ring.

The young Light Heavyweight is accompanied to the ring by Sunny but she quickly heads to the back as TAKA flies into the ring from the top rope and takes both Hart and Shamrock down with a double dropkick. TAKA’s offense is quickly grounded by a Clothesline by Hart – but Owen is quick to back to brawling with Shamrock as TAKA bides his time until the ten second countdown hits and we see the fourth man.

The WWF Light Heavyweight Champion hits the ring and makes a beeline for TAKA – but unfortunately for the Champion TAKA is ready and waiting. Michinoku sends Christopher over the top rope but he manages to hang on until Hart clobbers TAKA from behind again. Shamrock gets his hands back on Owen and plants him with a big Belly-to-Belly Suplex as the countdown draws to a close on entrant number five.

Liger storms the ring and quickly helps out his tag team partner – Chirashi work over the Light Heavyweight Champion and following a picture perfect double dropkick; Too Sexy is sent tumbling over the top rope for our first elimination.

Owen manages to get free of Shamrock once again and targets Chirashi – but the numbers soon catch up to him as Owen is faced with a 3-on-1 battle until the clock ticks down to zero.

#6 “Marvelous” Marc Mero

The Marvelous One hits the ring and after briefly helping Owen by dropping both members of Chirashi with a clothesline he takes a look at Shamrock and signals that Owen is all his. The pair go at it again and following a takedown Shamrock locks in the Ankle Lock. Owen instantly taps out but that doesn’t stop the World’s Most Dangerous Man. Shamrock attempts to drag Owen over to the ropes but Mero spots an opening and goes after Shamrock – unfortunately it backfires and he is planted with a Belly-to-Belly Suplex.

#7 Flash Funk

Another member of the high octane Light Heavyweight division hits the ring – with Funk hitting everybody in his path with leg lariat’s and dropkicks. Funk heads up top and nails Mero with a twisting crossbody – but he is pounced upon by Owen who starts working over the high flyers legs. The high speed action grinds to a halt as the clock hits zero to signal entrant number eight.

#8 Kurrgan

The Jackyl leads out his huge monster who methodically takes apart everybody in the ring. He drops Owen with a headbutt; flattens Mero and Shamrock with chops across the head – catches TAKA as he flies from the top rope and throws him into his tag team partner. Funk tries something similar from the top rope but gets caught as well and dumped over the ropes onto the outside.

On the opposite side of the ring TAKA helps Liger back to his feet; but suffers a clothesline from Owen that sends him tumbling to the outside. Liger tries to gain retribution with a clothesline of his own on Hart but Owen ducks and tips Liger over the ropes as well.

#9 Blackjack Windham

The clock runs down and our next entrant is one half of the Blackjacks – the tough veteran cowboy Windham; who hits the ring on fire. He uses his nasty striking game on all comers until he faces Kurrgan who takes a huge right hand to jaw and just smiles. Kurrgan grabs Windham and flattens him with a chop across the head. An unlikely alliance forms between Hart, Shamrock and Mero as they look to eliminate the big man as the clock ticks down.

#10 Road Dogg

One-half of the WWF Tag Team Champions hits the ring and joins the group trying to eliminate Kurrgan – but the big man overpowers the rest of the competitors and sends them all scattering across the ring. Road Dogg and Windham pair off as Shamrock and Mero do the same – with Shamrock getting the upper hand and sending the Marvelous One over the top rope and crashing into the announce table at ringside.

Shamrock celebrates the elimination but as he turns around Owen Hart is on him once again; he hooks a leg and sends Shamrock over the ropes onto the outside – a great opportunist elimination.

#11 “The Mastodon” Vader

It’s time for entrant eleven – it’s Vader Time! The big man hits the ring and goes straight for the huge Kurrgan – the Mastodon does what five men before him couldn’t do and sends Kurrgan crashing over the ropes onto the outside. The Jackyl is furious and leaps onto the apron – only to taste a big right hand from Vader.

Vader runs over Owen whilst Road Dogg and Windham fight in the opposite corner. The two superstars still had unfinished business from earlier in the night – but a low blow from Road Dogg gave him the advantage and allowed him to send Windham over the top rope as the countdown clock appeared once again.

#12 “The Lethal Weapon” Steve Blackman

The Lethal Weapon and his educated feet is the next entrant and he uses those feet to wipe out one-half of the Tag Team Champions as the Road Dogg goes down with a roundhouse kick to the back of the head. Blackman’s flurry continues as he goes after Hart – but Vader is not impressed and runs him down with a clothesline. Vader then spots Road Dogg down in the corner and signals that it is time – he charges and lands a big Vader Bomb in the corner as the clock hits zero.

#13 “The Artist Formerly Known As” Goldust

The Bizarre One heads straight for Vader but the Mastodon has clearly got his number tonight as it is Goldust who ends up on the canvas after they exchange. Owen gets back involved and attacks Vader from behind before getting into an unusual partnership with Goldust to double team the big man. In the opposite corner Road Dogg is franticly trying to escape from the grasps of Blackman who is busy unleashing a vast array of strikes as the clock hits zero once again.

#14 “The Rock” Rocky Maivia

The WWF Intercontinental Champion is out next but he is in no hurry to get into the ring as an angry Steve Blackman awaits him. Owen and Goldust continue to beat down on Vader but the big man is refusing to stay down. Road Dogg finally gets his breath back to attack Blackman from behind and this draws The Rock into the ring and join in the assault.

#15 Faarooq

The former leader of the Nation of Domination brings us to the half way mark and heads straight for his nemesis The Rock. Rocky however quickly exits the ring as he wants nothing to do with Faarooq in this match. Faarooq decides against chasing Rocky and teams up with Blackman to plant Road Dogg with a sideslam. Vader eventually overpowers Owen and Goldust and cleans them both out with clotheslines.

#16 Kama Mustafa

The second of three Nation members hits the ring next and heads straight for Faarooq – the two big powerhouses slug it out in the centre of the ring with neither man backing down until the runaway train that is Vader takes them both down. The Mastodon is on a tear as he sends Blackman and then Road Dogg crashing to the canvas. He sets Road Dogg up for a Powerbomb but is stopped dead in his tracks thanks to a low blow by Goldust. The Bizarre One takes Vader into the corner to work him over as the clock counts down again.

#17 D’Lo Brown

The final Nation of Domination member hits the ring and goes straight for Faarooq – but Faarooq is ready and waiting as he plants D’Lo with a Spinebuster. The distraction however, allows Rocky to slide into the ring and tip an unsuspecting Faarooq over the top rope and to the floor.

The Nation regroup and pose over their fallen former leader as Vader powers out of the corner and drops Goldust. The Mastodon keeps going and runs straight through Kama and sends him tumbling over the ropes; he drops Rocky with a stiff right before lifting D’Lo onto his shoulder and dumping him over the top rope as well.

#18 Ahmed Johnson

The Pearl River Powerhouse hits the ring and runs head on into Vader – who simply stands in his way and sends him crumbling back to the canvas. Owen and Goldust regroup in one corner as Road Dogg gathers himself on the opposite side of the ring but all three men somehow don’t see Vader charging – as he first squashes Road Dogg and then Owen and Goldust as the big man continues to dominate. The opportunistic Intercontinental Champion takes advantage of the downed Johnson and dumps him over the top – but he is quickly stopped by a kick from Blackman.

The Lethal Weapon and his educated feet take the fight to The Rock – but Maivia suckers Blackman in before ducking and sending Blackman over the top rope as well.

One-half of the Legion of Doom hits the ring next as Animal goes straight for the Road Dogg – and nails him with a clothesline to send him out of the match.

Eliminated: Road Dogg by Animal at 25:39

After eliminating one-half of the Tag Champions, Animal pairs off with the Intercontinental Champion whilst Vader and Goldust pair off on the other side of the ring. This gives Owen Hart a welcome rest until the clock runs down again and we reach two-thirds distance.

#20 Mankind

The deranged Mankind hits the ring and makes a beeline for the tired Owen Hart; Mankind drops Owen in the corner; charges and nails him with a knee to the face. Meanwhile The Rock has the upperhand on Animal; but turns straight into a right hand from Mankind that drops him to his knees. Vader finally gets Goldust up onto his shoulder and powers him over the top rope and vanquishes his rival once and for all.

Owen once again takes a rest in the corner whilst the other remaining superstars pair off as we wind down the clock to see who will enter next.

#21 Billy Gunn

The second half of the Tag Team Champions is the next man out and he heads straight for Animal – obviously angry that he eliminated his partner a few minutes ago. While Gunn gets his shots in on Animal; Owen and Rocky make an alliance as they look to take out Mankind and Vader. Unfortunately for the brief partnership – Vader and Mankind are too much for them to handle and overpower them.

#22 Thrasher

As Thrasher enters, the opportunistic Owen Hart rushes up behind Animal and dumps him over the top.

Thrasher attempts to make an alliance with Mankind and Vader in their battle with The Rock; but Thrasher enthusiasm gets the better of him and after Mankind dumps Rocky with a right hand he launches Thrasher over the ropes and into elimination.

The sides are obviously drawn now though as Rocky, Owen and Gunn square off against Mankind and Vader until the buzzer sounds and we see who is up next.

#23 Hawk

The second member of the Legion of Doom hits the ring and evens up the sides by going straight after Billy Gunn. We get three mini-battles break out as Vader and Owen go at it whilst Mankind and The Rock take it turns trying to eliminate each other – and this is the status quo as we reach zero on the countdown once more.

#24 Blackjack Bradshaw

The big rough Texan storms the ring and hits everybody in sight with a clothesline. As things settle back down Bradshaw joins in the fight with Gunn and Hawk as all three men have a Tag Team Title dispute to settle. In a messy scenario; Gunn ducks a Hawk clothesline and tips him over the ropes – but whilst he taunts him on the outside; Bradshaw hooks a leg and dumps Billy onto the floor.

#25 “Double J” Jeff Jarrett

The Great Man from Tennessee is the next man to join in the fun; he joins Owen in his battle with Vader and the duo get in a few cheap double team shots to put the big man down. As Rocky and Mankind continue to go back and forth on the opposite side of the ring it is Bradshaw who comes to Vader’s aid as he stops the big man from tumbling out of the ring as he hits Owen in the face with a nasty big boot.

#26 Honky Tonk Man

Our first returnee of the night is the Honky Tonk Man – who enters the match with his guitar in hand and starts to perform his song. With the rest of the competitors watching on; everyone is surprised when Double J rips the guitar from Honky Tonk’s grasp and waffles him over the head. Jarrett dumps Honky over the top rope and proclaims that only he can bring a guitar into a wrestling ring these days – only for Bradshaw to nail him on the jaw with a right hand for his troubles.

#27 Triple H

The sole member of D-Generation X makes his way to the ring and it’s clear from the get go that the other competitors will do anything to stop the WrestleMania main event being an all-DX affair. Helmsley is on the receiving end of a six-on-one beatdown for the best part of ninety seconds until in-fighting proves to be the only reason he survives.

#28 Mosh

The second Headbanger rushes to the ring and gets involved with the Bradshaw and Jarrett battle; whilst Helmsley rests in the corner and Vader, Mankind, Owen and Rocky all take it in turns to threaten to eliminate each other. Mankind and Vader clearly have each other’s back but Owen and The Rock have only victory in mind as they stab each other in the back moments after being on the same side – in the end nobody is eliminated as we reach zero for the penultimate time.

#29 King Kong Bundy

The huge monster that is King Kong Bundy makes his way down to the ring and hands out headbutts and right hands like they were on offer. He launches Mosh over the top rope before getting into a battle of strength with the Mastodon.

The rest of the superstars in the ring are stopped in their tracks as first Bundy and then Vader connect with huge right hands. They both hit the ropes and charge at each other but neither man is knocked off their feet – until the remaining six men join in the chaos as our final countdown reaches zero.

#30 Savio Vega

The music for Los Boricuas hits but Savio is nowhere to be seen – after much confusion the action in the ring halts and we see footage backstage. Savio is knocked down unconscious as his unknown assailant walks away – seemingly towards the ring.

The glass shatters and the Texas Rattlesnake rushes down towards the ring – he is met first by Jeff Jarrett but drops him with a Stunner. Then comes Mankind – Stunner; followed by Rocky, Triple H, Bradshaw and Owen – Stunner after Stunner after Stunner.

We cut backstage to Vince McMahon who is tearing up his office at the site of the suspended Austin running roughshod over his Royal Rumble match.

Stone Cold drops Vader with a Stunner and then hands out a Stunner to Bundy before Jarrett gets back to his feet and Austin sends him flying over the top rope.

Owen nails Austin from behind with a low blow and the momentum is shifted completely as now the Rattlesnake is on the back foot. Meanwhile Rocky is quick to take advantage of a distracted Mankind and sends him tumbling to the outside.

Eliminated: Mankind by Rocky Maivia at 45:25

Similarly; Bradshaw attempts to go after The Rock but is unsuspectingly eliminated by an opportunistic Helmsley and the field is gradually starting to thin out.

Eliminated: Blackjack Bradshaw by Triple H at 45:58

The colossal struggle between the unstoppable force and the immovable object came to a crashing end as Vader managed to use the momentum of a charging King Kong Bundy against him as the Mastodon pulled down the top rope and sent the veteran crashing to the outside.

Eliminated: King Kong Bundy by Vader at 47:36

Whilst Owen and Austin went back and forth in one corner; Vader got a second burst as he flattened Rocky with an Avalanche in another corner – but Helmsley jumped onto the Mastodon’s back and attempted to lock in a sleeper hold. Vader seemed to shrug off the DX man’s attack as he charged at the ropes; ducked down at the last second and sent Helmsley flying over the ropes and crashing onto the floor on the outside.

Eliminated: Triple H by Vader at 48:11

As we are down to our final four; all of the men in the ring stopped to soak in the atmosphere for a brief moment before going at it again. Rocky and Stone Cold exchanged a series of right hands before Austin took control and worked over Maivia in the corner. Meanwhile Owen and Vader hooked up again – but it was Helmsley who was key in this exchange as he leapt onto the apron to distract the Mastodon. This allowed Hart to sneak up from behind and with the help of Helmsley sent the big man out of the match.

Eliminated: Vader by Owen Hart at 49:50

With the Mastodon out of the contest and the final three competitors decided it was the on-again-off-again alliance between The Rock and Owen that came to the fore. Stone Cold was on the receiving end of a two-on-one beatdown but it was the clash of ego’s between the pair that allowed Austin to battle back from the jaws of elimination. Rocky and Owen couldn’t decide between themselves who would eliminate Austin – so The Rock decided to take a cheap shot and dropped Owen with the Rock Bottom. This came to bite Rocky though as this gave Austin just enough time to recover and as The Rock turned his attention back to the Rattlesnake – Austin was able to quickly sidestep him and send him over the top.

The final showdown was between the first and last entrant – Owen was aiming to go coast-to-coast whilst Austin; who wasn’t even scheduled to be in the match; was looking to secure his place in the WrestleMania main event that he felt he deserved. The pair battled back and forth for several minutes until Hart sent Austin flying over the ropes; unfortunately for the physically drained Owen – Stone Cold managed to hook the top rope and survive by the skin of his teeth. The Rattlesnake battled back but just as Owen looked like he was close to win again he was literally stunned by the Stone Cold Stunner. Owen’s momentum sent him into the ropes and all that was left for Austin to do was clothesline his rival over the ropes and to the floor. The arena shook as the fans leapt to their feet – Steve Austin had done the unthinkable and was going to WrestleMania.

A video airs that details the storied history between the WWF Champion Shawn Michaels and his arch-rival The Undertaker as we see the road the two men have travelled ahead of tonight’s main event.

The mind games of recent weeks continued as Michaels spent much of the early part of the match doing everything he could to avoid the Deadman. Once the Undertaker got his hands on HBK he made him pay and knocked him down quickly with a vicious flurry. Michaels quickly exited the ring and regrouped on the outside – he decided to pick up his title and leave. Unfortunately for HBK; Undertaker was not giving him an easy ride – the Phenom took the fight to the outside and began beating the Champion up all around the ringside area. Undertaker gave Michaels a big beating; and after long periods in control signalled that the end was near – he scooped Michaels up and planted him in the centre of the ring with a huge Chokeslam.

The Phenom went to the outside and positioned the Casket; obviously ready to finish the match and claim the WWF Title. But that wasn’t to be at this time; as Triple H rushed down to the ring to help out his DX running buddy. Helmsley was armed with a steel chair and connected with a glancing blow to the Undertaker as he looked to take higher ground inside the ring. Helmsley followed him inside and connected with a shot to the skull at the second attempt – but the Phenom wasn’t down for long as he sat straight back up and gave Triple H the fright of his life.

Helmsley signalled to the back and out ran the WWF Tag Team Champions the New Age Outlaws – Road Dogg and Billy Gunn were also armed with steel chairs and the young upstarts had obviously formed some sort of alliance with DX. The Outlaws did a number on the Undertaker as Helmsley helped HBK to his feet – before opening the lid of the Casket on the outside. The Outlaws held the Phenom in place to allow Michaels to connect with the Sweet Chin Music that dropped his challenger. It looked as though Michaels would roll the Deadman into the Casket but he somehow managed to fight back as he grabbed HBK by the throat from inside the Casket.

Undertaker fought back and managed to hold his own against all four men until the lights in the arena went out. Fire burst out of every turnbuckle and the Big Red Machine – Kane made his way down to the ring. Kane took both Gunn and Dogg down with uppercuts before planting Helmsley with a Chokeslam. Michaels received a Chokeslam for his troubles as the Outlaws decided against getting back in the ring and hightailed it to the back.

The Undertaker finally got back to his feet and confronted his estranged brother – the two monsters gave each other a long stare before Kane seemingly signalled to the Undertaker to finish the match. But as soon as the Phenom turned his back – Kane struck him from behind and quickly dropped him on his head with the Tombstone Piledriver. Kane dragged the limp body of the Undertaker over to the Casket and rolled him inside – all that was left was for a beaten Shawn Michaels to pull the lid shut and claim an unlikely victory and retain his WWF Championship.

The badly beaten D-Generation X escaped to the back with the WWF Title still intact but Kane was not finished. He dragged the padlocked Casket out to the entrance way and stood next to it – he raised his arms menacingly before causing the Casket to erupt in flames. The announce team screamed as the Undertaker was left to burn inside the Casket – Kane looked on as we went off the air.

Cornette has no problems with the man who replaced him; as he has a lot of respect for Jerry Lawler; but Cornette is pissed off at management in the back. The trio managed to isolate Shamrock for much of the early going but once Vader and then Austin got involved it was anybody’s guess as to which team would come out on top. Wow, Souled Out sucked lol.

What was your favourite WWF match of the month, and why?

Gotta go with the Rumble. Very Attitude-era Rumble, written to a T. Much kudos, hence why I put it in for DOTM.

What was your favourite moment of the month, and why?

This may be cheating, but I loved seeing Vader come out and clean house on DX right here. I'm a Vader mark, and seeing him do something notable like that just put a smile to my face.

What was your least favourite moment of the month, and why?

Brian Christopher still has the LH title -_-

I actually agree with everything Beejus said, but for the sake of switching it up, here goes:

What was your favourite WWF match of the month, and why?

Michaels vs. Undertaker, I like how you had everything happen similarly to real life, because honestly I'm not sure if there could have been a more effective way to go about it. I just hope you don't make Kane look weak and continue his war path. This was the time when Kane had so much promise, and continually jobbing to Taker as well as other poor booking decisions led him down a road where he never achieved his full potential as a character in my opinion. The match was written really well, too.

What was your favourite moment of the month, and why?

Considering it's fresh in my mind, I would say Owen attacking Austin and setting up that match at No Way Out of Texas. Just the theoretical possibility of Owen actually having a chance to headline WrestleMania makes me happy, even if there's a zero percent chance of it happening. Hoping his potential gets realized as well.

What was your least favourite moment of the month, and why?

Other than Brian Christopher being the LH Champ, TAKA not beating Christopher.

This feels like repetition since I'm basically only quoting what you guys said but whatever..

What was your favourite WWF match of the month, and why?

The Rumble match hands down. I have always loved the Rumble matches, even though they are bad sometimes, and Rumbles in diaries are not an exception. They take a lot of work but yet are so rewarding in the end <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> What I did not like was Austin winning it. Stone Cold is my favorite wrestler of all time but if the boss of WWF can't keep one man from entering the premises, then it doesn't look like he has much authority now does it. By all logic Vince would've known who all the 30 participants were so how could this possibly have happened? What I think would've been better is that someone else had taken the victory and Austin would've kept pestering them, attacking them constantly and whatnot until the winner put their title shot on the line. Since if the winner put the title shot on the line there wouldn't have been nout for Vince to say at that point. I know these kinds of things happen in wrestling all the time but I'm still bothered by them every time <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

What was your favourite moment of the month, and why?

How you've booked Owen Hart. Everyone who says Owen didn't have ME potential is wrong, he is the most underrated wrestler of the Attitude Era. Dude had way better mic skills, charisma and star aura than he is ever given credit for.
