The World Wrestling Federation: What The World Is Watching.

February 1st, 1988: The Meeting.

Vince McMahon had sent word for me to report to his office at once, and needless to say I had no idea why. As any fair-minded employee would, I started to accumulate any and every little thing that I could have possibly done (or said) that would infuriate him in recent history.... but nothing termination-worthy immediately comes to mind.

My name is Nick Cavalera. I'm 35 years old and I've been working for the World Wrestling Federation for nearly 6 years now. I started out doing mostly ring-setup and other various labor jobs. Eventually I became pretty well-liked by all (or at least thats what I like to believe), mainly because I kept my nose out of everyone else's business.... steered clear of the politics.... and never said a bad word about anybody behind their back (though thats not to say I particularly 'like' everyone either). Through the years I've worked my way through the backstage ranks so to speak, and am currently part of the Talent Scouting team alongside the likes of Arnold Skaaland, Gerry Brisco, Pat Patterson, Tony Garea and occasionally Gorilla Monsoon.

Vince tends to confide in me on certain issues, such as pop culture and whats going on in the outside world for example (I'm a 'Hip' 35. MTV, Guns N' Roses, Double Dragon, all pretty groovy to me). And even though Brisco and Garea are just a mere six years older, they're both caught inside what we in the business simply refer to as: The Wrestling Bubble. And for those who are not familiar with the industry-lingo, it simply means that anything that goes on outside the 'pro-wrestling bubble'.... well, lets just say they havent the slightest clue. They're stuck on old-school angles. Old-school character appearances. And probably couldn't tell you who the Dire Straits were if you asked. Madness.

As I slowly approached the boss's shrine in Stamford CT, he welcomed me in a slow, low-toned commanding-like voice and told me to have a seat. I wasnt too comfortable though I must admit, given the fact that he had called for me.... and me alone.

And thats why I've brought you here today ironically enough. So lets get straight down to it. As you know, first my father and now myself, have given our heart, guts and soul to the World Wrestling Federation and we each take, or have taken respectfully, much pride in doing so. However, just four short years ago when I put it all on the line by creating what is now known to mankind as THE MECCA of sports entertainment.... WrestleMania, well.... lets just say it wasnt without great reason. Not only was it the single most innovative event in professional wrestling's long illustrious history, but it was also the very first time that there was a major crossover between us and Hollywood.

At this point, I'd really wished he would have spared me both the history lesson and his obsession with Hollywood mega-stars.... so I'll proceed by summing it up for you.

He then went on to talk about WrestleMania 3 and how last year he took the WrestleMania name to a whole new level, but at the same time he'd realized that plenty of guys featured on that card were either on a time-decline or didnt have much of a place in the future. (ie: Some of which who are no longer with us as we speak. "Cowboy" Bob Orton. Billy Jack Haynes. King Kong Bundy. "Adorable" Adrian Adonis. And The Iron Sheik. To name a few.) He also continued by stating there were a few similar on the current roster as well, of whom he was simply getting a bit of use out of whilst waiting for their current contracts to fully expire.

From there, he talked about his 'Vision' for the future, and had informed me that thats where I come in. He confidently rambled about how the WWF has become larger than life itself and that he needed someone who was creative, in touch with the current trends of todays society, and driven enough to be in the drivers seat of whats bound to be a long and grueling.... yet extremely profitable road ahead.

Long story short, he asked me, of ALL people, if I would take over the head-booking job: effective immediately. His reasoning itself was quite obvious once explained. He wanted to turn this company into a global-phenomenon. He wanted to expand well outside the United States, while simultaneously destroying every last wrestling promotion that exists here. He wanted to steal the best of the best from his now arch-rivals and sign them to exclusive, written contracts. He wanted to be the lone territory left standing, while all the others crumble beside him.

He wanted World Domination.... and he most certainly had the funds to do it.

Finally, he went on yet another rant about how he knew in order to do this, he'd have to do something not only monumentally extravagant.... but also something that all these nickel and dime promoters would never have the balls to do. The NFL had the Super Bowl. Major League Baseball had the World Series. And now the World Wrestling Federation has WrestleMania.

All that said, it was time to keep raising the bar. He wanted me to be his head-booker while he was handling everything else that came with taking us inter-national. But he did make one thing very clear. All final decisions still go through him, period.

Vince: 'Tis the Dawning Of A New Day my friend, and I'm glad to have you on board!

He says this, without me ever giving him an actual answer.... but how could I refuse, even if I wanted to.

Vince: Do you have any questions?

NC: Yes, actually. Just two small ones. Tonights Prime Time....

Vince: Ah yes. I knew you'd ask that. You are to select the matches in which you wish to air for tonights broadcast from our Post-Royal Rumble house show footage. Just be sure you choose accordingly, being that the majority of next weeks Saturday Night's Main Event is already mapped out, as you already know. Oh and also, here's a document that the board received today specifying our new television airing/pre-taping schedule.

WWF Prime Time Wrestling

http://i.imgur.com/qfYaXqYs.jpg

Taped/Assembled: Monday

USA Network Airing: Wednesdays @ 9pm

WWF Wrestling Challenge

http://i.imgur.com/ZYjBlJws.jpg

Taped/Assembled: Thursday

NBC Airing: Saturdays @ 10am

NC: Looks good. No Superstars though I see.

Vince: Yes. For now. Three hours of television per week seems sufficient. I'd also like to try and air better quality matches on Prime Time, while using Challenge for the more lower-end stuff...storyline recaps...and the show-casing of new talent. And furthermore, we have a brand new pay-per-view schedule being negotiated as well, which I'll go over with you later in the week once its finalized. You have quite the task ahead of you for today on such short notice. Are you sure youre willing to take it on?

NC: Yessir, of course!

Vince: Very well then. Another question. Go on.

At this point, I needed to take a deep breath and catch my composure. God, it was intimidating just to politely excuse yourself to get a word in sometimes.

NC: What about everyone else? Patterson.... Brisco.... Hogan.... Savage.... Warrior.... Honky....

This is the point where I truly begin to realize that I've gotten myself into some serious, serious shit. Without even saying formally accepting that is, mind you.

Vince: Dont you worry about them, or anybody else for that matter. If they give you any trouble whatsoever: You come to ME. Understood?

NC: Sure thing.

Vince: Oh and one last thing. You'll also be receiving a list of personal goals you must acheive. After all, you didnt think this job was gonna come all THAT easy, did ya!? HehHehHeh.

So there you have it folks. Really looking forward to seeing where you take it, as I'm currently running a WCW '94 game myself. Hillbilly Jim

In whats bound to be an all-out brawl from jump, "The Outlaw" Ron Bass steps into the squared-circle with Mudlick Kentucky's Own: Hillbilly Jim. With both men looking to shoot up the ranks here in the World Wrestling Federation, there's no doubt both will be bringing their A-game. But who will prevail victorious?

"The Natural" Butch Reed w/Slick Vs. "JYD" The Junk Yard Dog

Rumor has it there are many within the industry who feel The Junk Yard Dog has 'run his course' here in the World Wrestling Federation, but in a recent WWF Magazine Exclusive, he's claimed that beginning in February, he plans on making a major push towards the one thing thats eluded him his entire career: WWF Gold. However, standing in his way is one tough customer in The Natural. And with the Slickster in his corner, will it be too much for The JYD to over-come? Or will he complete phase one by somehow escaping with, in what would most certainly be one hard-fought victory. Only time will tell.

Sika w/Mr. Fuji Vs. The Ultimate Warrior

Here's the burning question: Does it get anymore WILD than this?! 'The Savage Samoan' Sika bangs heads with The One, The Only, The Ultimate Warrior on this weeks edition of Prime Time! The Warrior's recent issues with Hercules have been well-documented and a power-on-power clash seemed truly inevitable.... Until now that is. One can only wonder what 'The Devious One' and his Savage Samoan-Beast have in store for The Ultimate One. Will The Warrior continue on his path of sheer destruction? Or will Sika and his evil side-kick emerge victorious and build a cage with his bones?

"Handsome" Harley Race & Hercules w/Bobby Heenan Vs. The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid)

With Matilda gone missing, and Bobby Heenan and his Islanders claiming to have aboslutely no knowledge whatsoever of her where-abouts, The Bulldogs have been on a one-track mission to locate their beloved mascot as of late. They've even gone as far as begging the trio to hand her over, and offering a truce if they were to do so (ie: everyone forgets this ever happened and just simply goes their seperate ways). However, much like The Bulldogs, WWF President Jack Tunney seems to think that something here smells awfully fishy, and has demanded that these two other Heenan Family members go toe-to-toe with Davey and Dynamite. But one must begin to wonder, can The Bulldogs stay focused enough without their beloved mascot and score a big time tag-team victory over two of the toughest brutes the WWF has to offer? Or will their emotions end up getting the best of them when its all said and done?

Bret "Hitman" Hart w/Jimmy Hart Vs. Tito Santana

Ever since Strike Force took the WWF Tag Titles off The Hart Foundation last October, in what some seem to have considered a major upset, there's most certainly been no love-lost between these two teams. After begging for a title re-match time and time again (claiming that they were the ones who eliminated Strike Force from the Survivor Series Tag-Team Elimination Match at the first annual WWF Survivor Series pay-per-view back in November), WWF President Jack Tunney has gone on record and granted 'The Mouth Of The South' and his boys their wish - in just two short weeks on the coming edition of Saturday Night's Main Event! This week on Prime Time however, we're in for a special treat as two of the World Wrestling Federation's most technically sound pair off with one another.... when Mexico's Own: Tito Santana clashes with The Hitman!

"The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase w/Virgil & The One Man Gang w/Slick Vs. "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan & "The Beast From The East" Bam Bam Bigelow w/Oliver Humperdink

And finally, in our COLOSSAL Main Event of the evening: The World Wrestling Federation Champion, Hulk Hogan joins forces with his good friend Bam Bam Bigelow, as they set to do battle with "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase and his hand-bought partner for the night........ The One Man Gang! In whats sure to be considered the biggest main event in the history of cable television, there's no doubt they'll need plenty of ring re-inforcements for this one. But thats not all. 'The Million Dollar Man' has gone on record claiming there just might be a 'GIANT' lurking close behind. And that being said, one can only presume he's speaking of 'The Eighth Wonder Of The World' himself.

Furthermore, with the official contract signed, sealed and delivered for Andre's WrestleMania 3 Championship rematch with Hogan just two short weeks away, who knows what kind of mega-explosion we could possibly be in store for here!

Hogan and Bam Bam. For example, I have already signed a few and ran some dark matches involving them. However, I used to love the shock value of how guys debuted back then (as I'm sure most of you did as well... if you're as old as me, that is lol), even if it was just in a televised squash-match. So those matches will of course be kept private.

Ok. Dark Matches:

The Brooklyn Brawler Vs. Randy "Macho Man" Savage w/Miss Elizabeth

There is simply NO CHANCE IN HELL.

The Bolsheviks (Nikolai Volkoff and Boris Zhukov) w/Slick Vs. The Killer Bees ("Bee" Brian Blair and "Jumping" Jim Brunzell)

Jobbers vs. Jobbers, but The Bolsheviks at least gained some wins IRL i think.

Televised Broadcast:

"The Outlaw" Ron Bass Vs. Hillbilly Jim

Bass was being pushed big time IRL if i'm correct, so he runs over another jobber here.

"The Natural" Butch Reed w/Slick Vs. "JYD" The Junk Yard Dog

Reed can be a star. JYD probably can't be anymore.

Sika w/Mr. Fuji Vs. The Ultimate Warrior

THE ONE AND ONLY, THE UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULTIMATE WARRIOR, IS GOING TO BEAT THE OLD SAMOAN WITH THE ULTIMATE SPLASH IN 22 SECONDS!

"Handsome" Harley Race & Hercules w/Bobby Heenan Vs. The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid)

Race at this point is a great fodder for the younger stars. The quest for Matilda shall continue.

Bret "Hitman" Hart w/Jimmy Hart Vs. Tito Santana

Builds up for Strike Force vs. The Hart Foundation at The Main Event, which should probably be a great match.

"The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase w/Virgil & The One Man Gang w/Slick Vs. "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan & "The Beast From The East" Bam Bam Bigelow w/Oliver Humperdink

They were building Bigelow for something big at this point, and teaming with Hogan, he can't lose here. Plus, Gang is the weakest link of the match.
