The League V2.0: A Multiplayer RTL Experience

(as presented by ShadowedFlames)

OFFICIAL GUIDELINE LIST FOR THE LEAGUE, VERSION 2.0

I. GAME ENGINE

The League is run using the Wrestling Spirit III game, version 1.0 (when it is released). The League Director will have purchased a fully licensed copy of the game, which allows for exhibition matches to take place beyond the standard 1v1 match. The database used is the default CornellVerse database, modified to include promotions, wrestlers, moves, personalized movesets, and relationships for League members as appropriate.

II. INITIAL CHARACTER CREATION

1) Initial Stats

All characters entering the League, regardless of the season in which they do so, will be granted the sum of 8,000 XP. This is enough to purchase 1,200 stat points barring additional finisher/signature purchases.

2) Initial Attribute/Trait Points

All characters entering the League, regardless of the season in which they do so, will be granted three Trait Points (3 TP). These Trait Points are used to buy special abilities for each wrestler, akin to the "Samoan Skull" or "Undead Selling" traits in WS2. Negative traits also exist, and a beginning wrestler may only have a maximum of two negative traits. Some traits can be improved on with enough TP, or made worse to earn bonus TP (in the case of negative traits). A wrestler is not required to spend all of their TP at the time of creation; however once the season begins no TP can be spent until the season is concluded. A list of the available traits, their costs, and a link to a quick-reference spreadsheet may be found under the "Current Season" tab on The League's webpage (see above for link).

3) Initial Moveset

a) Assigning of initial moves: A moveset will be automatically generated from the settings selected in a character's application, and then edited to include your chosen signature(s)/finisher(s) and eliminate any other finisher-level move that could end a match. Note that this is just for character generation; if you wish to submit a manual moveset, you are welcome to and it will be entered into the database pending my approval. Movesets will be entered after stats are assigned to ensure proper creation of a moveset. In the event that a moveset has very few moves, I will make a temporary moveset until such time as a proper moveset is sent in by the player or the game generates a usable one. Note that some moves require a minimum "stat" to use, and thus may not be available at the start.

b) Assigning of signature/finishing moves: When first entering the League, a character may have one "signature" move (a named move which the character uses to great effect, or as a rare finisher) and one finishing move (also named and which is their primary method for ending a match). These moves will be assigned as a "trademark move" of the character, meaning they can use said move without the need of prerequisites. Finishers will always have a hit chance of 200 and a "to win" chance of 850. Signature moves will be based on their default database equivalents. These numbers may be changed at the Director's discretion.

4) Restrictions on Moveset

a) Player input: Players may suggest moves to be entered into their character's movesets, keeping in mind that the possible stat requirements may make the move unavailable to begin with. Changes to a moveset (with the exception of purchasing new signatures/finishers) can only be done once per season, and no later than halfway through said season. This restriction is in effect due to the fact that altering a moveset is the most time-consuming portion of the character creation or altering process.

b) If Moveset is Auto-Generated: If a player elects to let the game/League Director design a moveset for the character, it will be updated at the mid-point of the season to allow for earned stat points to expand the character's repertoire of moves.

c) Limit on signature and finishing maneuvers: At the most during a character's tenure in the League, they may have a maximum of three (3) finishing moves and ten (10) signature moves at any one time. This is for ease of database maintenance and also to keep the database running smoothly. If a player takes either a fourth finishing move or an eleventh signature move, he or she must choose a move in the same category to discard.

d) Limit on moveset size: At the present, there is no permanent maximum allowed moveset size. Moveset sizes are at the discretion of the Director and inquiries will be made if the Director feels like there are too many moves that don't "fit" the wrestler or are not relevant to the wrestler.

5) In-game avatars

a) Not a necessity: Players are not expected to provide a picture to use for their character. While it would look good and certainly help the Director's sanity, it is not necessary. The Director may ask who the player would like to use for their character, and attempt to make the avatar himself (or seek more experienced help in that department). Failing that, the Director may assign one of the "Future Pictures" from the default database to represent a character in his own copy only.

b) Size: For those people who wish to submit their own avatars, the size of the picture should be 150 pixels by 150 pixels. Larger pictures can be shrunk to meet the needs and still retain quality, but smaller pictures are not recommended.

Once all of the steps above have been completed (namely, when the League Director has entered everything into the program and has a webpage set up for each player), the character is ready to enter the League and try to become champion!

III. LEAGUE GUIDELINES AND RULES

1) Conferences and Divisions: This will be based on the number of entrants. Traditionally, the winner of the season-long prediction contest got to dictate the divisions, but this practice may cease depending on the number of entrants.

2) Tournament Playoff: Based on the number of entrants, the top records in the League will face off in an elimination-style tournament until only one remains, as the League Champion for the Season.

3) Season Standings: In the event of identical records, the tie will be broken in the following order:

a) Head to Head: If the wrestlers have fought each other, whoever has won the match (or series, if a divisional opponent) will have the advantage. If more than two people are tied, records against all wrestlers tied for that position will be looked at, if available, with the best record winning the tie-breaker.

b) Divisional Record: In the event that a) above is unable to break the tie, the next step is to compare divisional records of the tied individuals. Whoever has the better divisional record shall have the advantage.

c) Average Time of Victory: If both a) and b) are unable to break a tie, the next step is to look at the average time of victory for each wrestler, a la a "Beat The Clock" challenge. The wrestler with the shortest average victory time wins the tiebreaker.

d) Match Rating: If both a) through c) are unable to break a tie, the next step is to look at the average match rating throughout the season. Whoever has the highest average match rating shall have the advantage.

e) Playoff: If methods a) through d) above fail to break the tie, a one-match "playoff" shall be held, with the winner claiming the advantage under the guidelines of section a) above. If more than one person is tied, a round-robin style format will be used to determine who claims the advantage under the same guidelines listed above.

IV. SCHEDULING, REGULAR SEASON

1) Schedules: This will largely be based on the number of entrants. While the "accepted" League standard is a 14-match schedule, this number can vary based on entrants.

2) Match Order: Match Order will be determined at random until the later weeks in the schedule, when the matches that could determine playoff implications will be shown in the "main event" slots (end of the card). The Director will attempt to balance out the cards so that many different characters will get to be in the main event slots as can be done.

3) Type of match: There are eight types of singles match that will be used by the Director: normal, two out of three falls, cage, hardcore, first blood, table, submission, European, and iron man. Two out of three falls bouts are reserved for the playoffs, and iron man bouts are solely for the League Championship each season. Ultimate Submission, European Hardcore, and Hardcore 2/3 Falls bouts will not be used by The League.

4) Rules of the Match: With the elimination of regions, a set of "Standardized" rules has been accepted by The League's Competition committee, and those are as follows:

Medium/Low/Danger Energy: 85/50/15

Run-ins: No

Ref Bumps: Yes

Face vs. Heel: Yes

Managers: Yes

Strict DQs: No

Blood Stoppages: Yes

Referee Stoppages (Medical DQ): Yes

Flash Points: Yes

Momentum: Yes

Vulnerable State: Yes

Warrior Spirit: Yes

Adrenaline Boosts: Yes

Dramatic Comebacks: Yes

Energy Effects: Yes

Tag Team Saves: Yes

Warm Up: 2 Minutes

Martinetes: Legal

Top Rope Moves: Legal

Minor Cheating: Illegal

Pre-match Interviews: No

5) Changes in popularity: After a match has been concluded, a wrestler's Overall rating will change depending on the rating of the match, as well as the result. The higher the match rating, the higher the popularity increases, and vice versa. Winning a match will also increase a character's popularity. The length of a match will also have a factor in the change of popularity. All of these changes will be handled by the League Director "behind the scenes" in between shows, and the updated total will be shown on each character's web page within 36 hours of a show being posted.

6) Match Earnings: Match earnings start at a split of 400 XP for the victor / 100 XP for the loser, and are modified by match length, match rating, and whether the match was considered the Match of the Night. Those wrestlers who employ a manager will have their earnings reduced by 15% to pay for the manager's fee.

a) Match of the Night Bonus: The highest-ranking match of each week will receive "Match of the Night" honors. Matches so designated will earn a flat bonus of 75 XP to each participant involved. In the event that more than one match receives the same rating, the Director will take several factors into account before picking one of those matches to earn the MotN award, including time of the match.

7) Improving stats: In order to improve their statistics, each wrestler may buy training in a stat at the cost of the winnings they have earned. When web pages are updated each week, players will not only see how XP they have, but also how many Stat Points they can buy with that XP, as well as if they used some of that XP on a Signature or a Finishing move. Any questions regarding XP should be sent to the League Director.

8) Specialty Items: As documented before, all wrestlers will start with one signature move and one finisher that are considered "free" moves. Wrestlers may purchase up to two other finishers and up to nine other signature moves using their winnings. Signature moves cost 400 XP each, while finishers cost 1,000 XP each. Managers cost nothing, but take 15% of XP earned while employed by the wrestler. Upon purchase, the handler can tell the Director what the name of the new move is, what sort of move it is, and whether it's just a move they use frequently, a set-up move for a finisher, or if the move could possibly end a match if used. The director will then find a base move in the database, copy said move, and alter the copy to fit the specifications requested. The same general rule applies for finishing moves. The Director reserves the right to introduce a finisher/signature improvement system in later seasons.

9) Turnaround time: The Director of the league (namely, myself) expects to have a week of the league simulated and written up every week, including any behind the scenes work such as popularity changes. This may be altered due to weather, natural disasters, emergency circumstances, job-related incidents (of which the first three examples listed are often related), equipment malfunctions, duties to other projects, and so forth. The League Director will attempt to give due notice prior to any such events, if he is able to. The plan is to have one update per week, with a typical season (regular and post-season combined) lasting no more than five months for a fourteen-match regular season (14 weeks + 2 playoff weeks + 1 week off in middle of season for a special "Tag Team Turmoil" event + 1-2 week "off-season" for maintenance/editing of the database and general destressing).

V. SCHEDULING, POST-SEASON/"PLAYOFFS"

1) Match Ruleset: The normal League ruleset will be used for playoff matches as well.

2) Changes in Popularity: Post-season matches do not count for changes in character popularity in the game world. Instead, the same formula is used to determine the amount of Spirit points a wrestler in the playoffs earns, which is added at the end of the post-season.

3) Match Purses: Post-season matches do not have a monetary purse attached to them.

4) Style of Match: All playoff matches, regardless of the style of tournament used, shall be contested under best two out of three falls rules as a "regular" match until the finals. The final match of the tournament shall always be contested as an Iron Man match.

5) Match Order: Match order shall be determined by the League Director, and shall not be random for playoff cards.

6) Turnaround Time: As noted in section IV, part 9), turnaround time will remain at a week per round, unless dictated otherwise on the league recap page. If a time is noted on the league recap page, that time takes precedence over the standard rule.

VI: AUDIENCE/PLAYER PARTICIPATION

1) As someone once quipped, "this is a wrestling-based RPG." While true to a point, no roleplays (or RPs) need to be written for your character. They would have no effect on the game, and so are unnecessary. If you wish to write one for fun, you're welcome to; just be advised that it will not alter the results in any way.

2) During the course of the season, a season-long prediction contest shall be run by the League Director, who may also participate in the guise of League web columnist and color commentator Tori Montgomery. Correct predictions will be awarded points based on the number of people who correctly picked the match: the fewer correct, the more points earned.

a) Predictions from all participants (with the exception of the League Director—see below) may be changed up to the deadline that will be given each week by the League Director.

b) NOTE: The Director will never simulate a week of the League prior to making prediction picks, as to do otherwise would ruin the spirit of the game. The Director will post his predictions on the forums prior to simulating the week's matches, so that his picks are rendered official and cannot be changed later to prevent foul play.

3) This is meant as a fun diversion, and so insult wars, flaming, and other negative behaviors will not be tolerated. We are all mature here; there is no need for any sort of negative action to ruin the fun for everyone else. Talking a little smack is acceptable, as long as it doesn't get out of hand and doesn't become personal. After all, this is a wrestling-based game and talking smack has always been part of the business. The Director kindly asks for folks to keep the language clean as this is a business website, and to ensure any videos linked or embedded are also considered safe for work.

4) Handlers are expected to keep abreast of their current earnings and dictate where to distribute winnings/points at least once or twice a season. The more often you check, the more say you'll be able to have on your character's development, as even a few points difference in a stat could be a game-breaker. For that reason, it is highly suggested that all players at least keep tabs on their character's XP balances and plan to distribute points accordingly.

5) Handlers who have been inactive for an entire season will have their character(s) removed from active competition during the following post-season break. Exemptions of this rule are solely at the discretion of management.

VII. BETWEEN SEASONS

1) Because little enjoyment can be had during downtime, the Director will attempt to expedite all between-season changes so that the following season of the league may begin in a prompt manner. The projected turnaround time for making post-season changes to abilities, popularity, and any other changes is two weeks, though this may be changed at the whim of the Director. When possible, the Director will attempt to work on some of the off-season changes during the season itself, in order to expedite the process.

2) END OF THE SEASON AWARDS: At the end of the playoffs, various awards will be handed out by the Director. These include:

a) Match of the Season: A match must first qualify as Match of the Night to be eligible for this award. The director will examine all of the yearly MotN winners and choose one to be the Match of the Season. All participants in that match will receive a bonus of 150 XP to save or allocate as they deem fit.

b) 5-star MOTYC bonus: Any League member who compete in a non-playoff, non-tag match that is rated as a MOTYC (essentially 6 stars) will be put in the running for an extra bonus. At the end of each seasons, all MOTYC matches will be put onto a ballot, and voted on by the players and followers of The League. The winning match will award its participants an extra 500 XP, 50 Spirit Points, and two (2) Trait Points.

3) After each season, all participants will receive one free Trait Point that they can spend or save at their discretion. Wrestlers who finished below the average may receive other award in order to make an attempt at parity in The League. This is including but not limited to additional TP, free XP, or other items as deemed appropriate by the League Director.

4) When there are more people willing to be in the League than can be reasonably accommodated to stay true to the planned turnaround time, a "replacement" system shall be instituted, in which the wrestlers with the worst records will "sit out" the following season to undergo further training to be ready to return the following season. An equal number of replacements will be brought in from the list of reserves. Should the League ever reach this point (at present, should there be more than 32 willing participants), the Director will create the necessary rules to handle this situation.

VIII. PUBLIC DISCLOSURE

1) After discussion in the months leading to the release of Wrestling Spirit III, it was determined by players and the Director alike that all information about a character shall be made public. Each character will have a page devoted to them on the League's website, wherein all of their current stats, attributes, records, and moveset (if available) may be found.

3) All questions should be directed to the League Director, who will answer them as best as he can. This is best done via private message or via email at wrespi3league@gmail.com.

Still awake after all of that? Good, the application is to follow.

I'm putting a rough deadline of <strong><em>Christmas Eve (December 24, 2013)</em></strong> for applications for The League, Season Seven. I cannot promise I'll get any webpage work done over Thanksgiving as I'll be spending time with my partner out of state, but I figured it's time to get things started.</p><p> </p><p>

Thor is in, I just have to muck around and decide what I want in my moveset. I've even got an avatar this time around <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

I'd at least like to have something to show before leaving for the weekend. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/eek.png.0e09df00fa222c85760b9bc1700b5405.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

<p>For those participants currently listed in the Current Roster page (MLT, OctoberRaven, Emark, MichiganHero, Psycho Sam, and thebest2427): Your character pages are now live on the League website under "Current Season."</p><p> </p><p>

You'll also see The Phoenix under current season as well. His sheet is fully fleshed out and what you can expect yours to look like when done.</p><p> </p><p>

You have enough XP to allocate 1,200 points into your stats except for Overall and Spirit. You can also use those points to buy signatures or finishers if you so choose.</p><p> </p><p>

You may also notice that you have 3 Trait Points. This is how you buy your special abilities like Samoan Skull, Flyboy, and so forth. Use <a href="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Apth12Kq0ALtdFFnNlg4a1F3SkFQZURLdVFHeTlWM3c&usp=sharing" rel="external nofollow"><strong>this handy spreadsheet</strong></a> to help you figure out what you can and cannot get with your TP.</p><p> </p><p>

Please e-mail me your chosen training, and I'll update sheets either at some point this weekend or when I return home from Pennsylvania. You can also direct questions to me via email or here in the thread.</p>

<p>I received enough training emails to put together a four-person round robin for testing the League rule set out. Two things discovered:</p><p> </p><p>

With no Face vs Heel, moves normally unavailable to faces like eye pokes wre used by them often. So that setting is being switched to "Yes" in the rule set. I am also changing minor cheating to illegal after second thought. If refs call fouls in organized sports, perhaps the League refs should do likewise.</p><p> </p><p>

Also, it is probably a good thing that the average match rating tiebreaker is lower priority now. With no match rating above 3, it'll be quite the feat to separate oneself from the pack.</p><p> </p><p>

Without naming names, the round robin went as follows:</p><p> </p><p>

A def B, 11:23, ** (2)</p><p>

C def D, 13:27, *** (3)</p><p>

C def B, 10:42, *** (3)</p><p>

A def D, 7:56, * (1)</p><p>

A def C, 8:06, * (1)</p><p>

D def B, 6:23, *** (3)</p>

I'll try to get your page up at some point this weekend, along with the other updates I need to do. I do like the bio you submitted...and huzzah for League memes!</p>
