<p>Don't mean to "bump", but I fully support this project and look forward to the adjustments. I also look forward to bringing the Continental Wrestling Federation to the same level as WWF. (sim speaking, of course) The 70s is a highly</p><p>

neglected portion of wrestling history. This is when the territory system started to die out and wrestling as we know it started to emerge, for better or worse (worse IMO). It was around 79 into 83 when the Vince McMahon vision of wrestling took shape. Hulk came in around 78 or 79 with Southeastern Championship Wrestling (then known as Terry "The Hulk" Boulder). His launch came after he broke away from his manager Billy Spears and his tag partner at the time, Ox Baker. Hogan had the first of his meetings against Andre the Giant. An arm wrestling match was on Dothan television and can be seen here:</p><p> </p><p>

This indeed was a great time to be a wrestling fan and again, I look forward to the finished project. Thank you for tackling this.</p>

<p>Watching that video reminded me why I turn on the Comment Snob extension when browsing on Firefox to filter out Youtube comments. One of the idiot trolls doing the "I can't believe people would watch something so fake and scripted!" shtick is supposedly a Christian after looking at his page. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/rolleyes.png.4b097f4fbbe99ce5bcd5efbc1b773ed6.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

He's also a big Skillet fan. I reminded him that Skillet are HUGE wrestling fans. They even watched indy wrestling shows, as my former broadcast colleague at XCW got backstage passes to a concert and they apparently told him that they watched our show every Wednesday night when it used to be on MavTV. So I told him that in effect, he's mocking the very band he loves, and his behavior is why so many non-Christians think what they think about Christians. Then I told him to go back to hanging out with the Pharisees and Sadducees. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Anyway, back on topic, I remember seeing that footage on a documentary. I want to say it was either a Hulk Hogan or Andre the Giant documentary. Can't remember which.</p>

If I can ever find it, there should be a clip where Mongolian Stomper speaks for the first time in SECW! His son (storyline) was attacked by Ron Fuller's camp when Stomper cane out and then went into a hysterical rant on camera. Keep in mind that no internet back then and no one ever heard him utter one word before!</p>

There's no preview as I'm trying to limit them as much as possible but here's a quick update: I've completely reworked the popularity of absolutely everyone in the mod for two reasons; 1.) some of the earliest people I created were completely out of loop with everyone else as the mod has evolved since those early days, but now I'm hoping they're on an even keel and 2.) although I was happy with how they were, I think the popularity levels needed reigning in a little and now they're at a much more realistic level for this time period. Obviously, this took a lot of time so I haven't progressed in terms of numbers of workers as much as I would have liked since the last update/preview but hopefully it'll be a much smoother road ahead, particularly in the popularity stakes. I'm still working on International Wrestling Enterprise (I'm about half way through their roster) which is a real journey has I have very little knowledge on Japan but I'm enjoying it; I feel like I could be a wrestling historian with everything I've learned in this process. xD But yeah, the worker count is up to 413 so there is still a long way to go but I'm still enjoying it which I've been told is crucial.

There is one thing I'd appreciate help on apart from everything else I've already detailed in this topic (television shows/locations/etcetera) which is dojos. If you know of any training camps or whatever from that time period, I'd love to hear about them. :) Thanks for all the interest/support in this guys, I'm going to finish this because I'm desperate to play it myself but it makes me happy to know I won't be the only one playing it upon release. xD

Alot of old territories had a stretcher/trainer. I have met many old timers Most talk about some one like Danny Hodge or Billy Robinson stretching them before they were allowed to train.

Also AWA ran training camps. So what I suggest and what I am doing is

Billy Robinson Catch Camp

Danny Hodge Camp

etc

I am working on a Early 60's mod with help for a few of these old timers (both wrestlers and staff, really ring announcers know alot of the biz too, lol) who are still around.

Another preview (just a preview, it is not the finished article) if anyone is interested as to where I'm at:

Links: Database and/or Pictures

Apart from the changes I've mentioned a couple of posts up (by the way, thanks for the responses Jaysin and darkfire423; I've got the Hart Dungeon and I've already added a couple of camps, and I can't wait for that 60s mod) I've finished International Wrestling Enterprise (IWE), Japan Pro Wrestling Alliance (JWA) and Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP) so I'm about to start work on Joint Promotions which should be interesting considering Wrestlingdata doesn't have much information on the British promotions. xD I'm just over half way through the promotions so all that'll be left after that is filling the mod out with other wrestlers who weren't necessarily working in January, 1970 (therefore I haven't come across them yet) and titles, other networks etcetera. I haven't decided yet whether to release it when everyone from the 70s is in there or wait until I've finished guys from the 80s and beyond but we can talk about that closer to the finish line. :p

As always, any and all comments/criticism/questions are welcome...

I just finished watching the Legends of Wrestling roundtable about the 1970s on the WWE Network and came here hoping there'd be a 1970s mod. Really excited about this!

Hopefully it lives up to expectations.

Enjoying the progress Mammoth! Can't wait to see more...everything really!

Unfortunately, it's a very slow process which is why I didn't want to open a hype thread and only opened a help thread because - obviously - I needed/wanted some help. I do about six workers a day and it takes me about an hour to do one worker with all the research I put in to them and whatnot. I'm hoping when all the workers are done, everything else will come together pretty quickly and it'll start to look like a real mod. xD

By the way, the game is playable (despite the occasional messages on the lack of titles, events etcetera and the promotions I haven't done yet signing everyone in sight) so if people want to take it for a test drive (maybe just do a show or two) I'd love to hear some feedback on statistics and whatnot. Be as critical as you want, I really want to get this right. :)

Another preview (just a preview, it is not the finished article) if anyone is interested as to where I'm at:

Links: Database and/or Pictures

So, what's new? Well, I found out the companies that were closing were because they were owned by media groups and I have no idea why that was happening but as it has no effect on the game, I just got rid of their respective media group owners and it seems to have fixed the problem.

While working on Joint Promotions as planned, I decided to split them up into their respective promotions (Dale Martin Promotions, Morrell Beresford Promotions, Relwyskow Promotions & Wryton Promotions) and make "Joint Promotions" an alliance to have a game that hopefully gives the player the opportunity to play Britain how it should be. As far as I know (please correct me if I'm wrong) I'm the first person to do this so hopefully it'll excite a lot of British wrestling fans. As you can imagine, it's opened the room for a lot of British wrestlers, and I've filled out the rosters as best I could. I haven't decided yet whether to add some of the independent promotions as opposition to the might of Joint Promotions or leave the opposition to come from Wrestling Enterprises of Birkenhead (later All Star Wrestling) which will open in October, 1970, but we'll see. I could easily be persuaded because there is a lot of talent still left in the British ranks and I really enjoyed putting it together.

I also went through and made "Banners" for every promotion with a logo. I haven't decided yet whether to do generic banners for those without a logo or not, but again, we'll see.

I've also added Pacific Coast Athletic Corporation (the San Francisco Bay promotion owned by Roy Shire) after stupidly forgetting about them in the first instance and then putting them off because I didn't want to go back and do the employment history of everyone I've done thus far but I finally bit the nail and did it. I haven't done the roster yet, because my next port of call is Maple Leaf Wrestling.

Anyway, feel free to give it a look over; I'm pretty happy with how it's coming along to be honest, and I'd love to know whether you think the same or not.

I'm always trying to build a mod that'll hopefully be good enjoyment for the wrestling history buffs and those who may not know so much about this era, which is why I try to fill out the "Biography" of everyone as much as I can to give people a feel of the wrestlers even if they've never heard of 'em. My main aim is to make an enjoyable mod, but if I can introduce some guys/promotions to people, that's even better. xD</p>

Love old school wrestling. I tried doing a 1970 mod in TEW 08 but time was not on my side.

kayfabememories.com is indeed a great source (both the website and the forums).

For WWWF roster I suggest http://www.thehistoryofwwe.com/70.htm

And for other promotions I once used this: http://web.archive.org/web/20060406222256/http://www.oldschool-wrestling.com/

There will be no preview this time but I thought I'd update the situation:

Another promotion I stupidly missed in the first instance was Big Time Wrestling, the Detroit promotion ran by The Sheik. So I finally got around to adding them, complete with going back through everybody and adding any "Employment History" they may have had with BTW, or BTW Detroit as they're known in the mod just to avoid confusion with the Big Time Wrestling I added from the start which may, depending on the player, evolve into World Class Championship Wrestling. Simply because I'm going through each promotion alphabetically, filling out their rosters, I decided to do BTW Detroit as I made it so I didn't forget about it later, so their roster is already done. I also finished Maple Leaf Wrestling and Mid-America, and I'm literally putting the finishing touches on the National Wrestling Federation right this second so I'll soon be moving on to Northland Wrestling Enterprises which should be interesting. I'd never even heard of them until I got a message from hammerglenn, a member on this site. He's helped me with a couple of names so hopefully I'll be able to put together a competent and realistic roster.

If you're interested in numbers, here's a picture:

By the way, I've had a couple of questions on the reasoning behind Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissey having a starting injury, and such a long one at that. Just to make it clear to everyone, at about this time (from what I've read at exactly this time) Adnan was trying to enhance the reputation of professional wrestling in Iraq under the direction of Saddam Hussein. Obviously, he wouldn't be appearing in North American or British rings at this time so the best way to simulate this was giving him an injury.

I did think about hiatus but because he'd already set out on the tour by January, 1970 and Saddam Hussein isn't the type of guy who'd let him leave just because he had a job offer back in America, the better way to simulate it would be an injury to ensure he's out of action for at least the year. Ray Stevens would have been working for the Pacific Coast Athletic Corporation (the San Francisco Bay territory owned by Roy Shire) at about this time so he'll be added when I get to their roster and Pat Patterson would have probably (if memory serves me right) have been doing the same, so he'll also be added when I get to PCAC's roster. Are you still making updates to this?

Absolutely, I apologise for the lack of updates.

I've put the aforementioned "finishing touches" on the National Wrestling Federation that I mentioned in my last update, I took a look at Northland Wrestling Enterprises and although I had a good list of names for their roster, the actual information on those guys was very thin indeed. As it's a touring company and the tour doesn't start until March, I figured it won't hurt if I leave their roster blank (I just filled in owners, bookers and referees) and allow the AI and/or user to fill it. Following that, I've finished Pacific Coast Athletic Corporation (including Pat Patterson and Ray Stevens, making Ray Stevens one of the top five in the Power 500), Pacific Northwest Wrestling and St. Louis Wrestling Club. I've swiftly moved on to Stampede Wrestling and I've had the privilege of doing Abdullah the Butcher, Billy Graham and Billy Robinson who are all on the Stampede roster. I've got the rest of the roster left to do, and then there are only five promotions left to finish.

After all the promotions are done, I'm going to have to do a lot of filling in, adding people who are either yet to debut (I'm going to do a lot of guys from the 80's, including jobbers but after that it'll only be major superstars) or are working for promotions I haven't added or are simply out of work in January, 1970. Then I've got titles and things to fill in while generally expanding the mod so it doesn't seem so small but I think it's safe to say we're close to being on the home stretch which I hope excites people because it certainly excites me. :p

I'll do an actual preview at the end of the month.
