[help] 1970

Recommended Posts

Absolutely, I apologise for the lack of updates.

I've put the aforementioned "finishing touches" on the National Wrestling Federation that I mentioned in my last update, I took a look at Northland Wrestling Enterprises and although I had a good list of names for their roster, the actual information on those guys was very thin indeed. As it's a touring company and the tour doesn't start until March, I figured it won't hurt if I leave their roster blank (I just filled in owners, bookers and referees) and allow the AI and/or user to fill it. Following that, I've finished Pacific Coast Athletic Corporation (including Pat Patterson and Ray Stevens, making Ray Stevens one of the top five in the Power 500), Pacific Northwest Wrestling and St. Louis Wrestling Club. I've swiftly moved on to Stampede Wrestling and I've had the privilege of doing Abdullah the Butcher, Billy Graham and Billy Robinson who are all on the Stampede roster. I've got the rest of the roster left to do, and then there are only five promotions left to finish.

After all the promotions are done, I'm going to have to do a lot of filling in, adding people who are either yet to debut (I'm going to do a lot of guys from the 80's, including jobbers but after that it'll only be major superstars) or are working for promotions I haven't added or are simply out of work in January, 1970. Then I've got titles and things to fill in while generally expanding the mod so it doesn't seem so small but I think it's safe to say we're close to being on the home stretch which I hope excites people because it certainly excites me. :p

I'll do an actual preview at the end of the month.

Sweet cant wait to do a completed 1970 season

I think it will be brilliant when a full release is available, a mod so far back in time is a really interesting idea. Just thought i´d give a tip about a podcast that came out today from Colt Cabana who had Luke Williams (of Bushwackers Fame) as a guest and he talks a lot about the territories around this time. He gives a good account of most of the promoters of this time as he started in the 60´s and was working everywhere by the early 70´s.

It's also my understanding that the Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling name didn't come about until after Jim Crockett's passing. People are more than free to change it up as they please though when it's released, it's only a two second fix. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png"></p>

Another preview (just a preview, it is not the finished article) if anyone is interested as to where I'm at:

Links: Database and/or Pictures

I've just finished Stampede. The reason it took me so long isn't because the roster is huge - because it isn't - it's simply because of the World Cup which has unfortunately slowed down my progress. I said I'd add another preview towards the end of the month though so here it is. I'm sure things will pick up again in a week or two though. :)

Any updates on this?

Sure. I've finished Tri-State who have a surprisingly good roster and I'm in the middle of Western States Sports (the Amarillo promotion owned by The Funks) which leaves me with three active promotions to do following WSS. They're World Championship Wrestling (the Australian promotion), the World Wide Wrestling Federation and the World Wrestling Association. I'm then going to go through and add all the 'already debuted' workers which will then leave me in a position to add titles, TV Networks that aren't currently being used and PPV Carriers because although they're obviously obsolete at the start of the game, we'll need them at some point. xD

I'm thinking what I'll do when I reach this point is release a BETA because it'll obviously be fully playable just not for any longevity because I'd still need to do 'yet to debut workers'. It'll allow people to give me some full-scale feedback though and if there's anything I need to fix, I can do it before I've added hundreds if-not thousands of other workers.

Western States Sports is done, I'm now moving on to World Championship Wrestling (the Australian territory) which should be interesting since there isn't a lot of information on them in terms of a roster at a specific time.

Do anyone have information on Stampede Wrestling referees at this time? I can find a few in the 80s and beyond, but none for the 70s.

I've decided not to give a preview this month with the reason being that we're so close to the finish line - in terms of a possible BETA - that I'd rather keep some things back now so for those who do give it a little play through and offer me feedback, they won't feel like they've already played the game before it's even been released. As for where we are at? Well, I've finished World Championship Wrestling (Australia) with a certain degree of difficulty because I used results as a base for their roster and there were results for 1969 and 1971 but unfortunately none for 1970. So what I did was include the local Australian workers who I know didn't have runs in North America until later so more than likely were still in Australia at this time and then just threw in some of the regular imports to build a credible roster. There are a couple who would have definitely been in Australia because I used their title history and they were a champion in Australia at this time, Curtis Iaukea for example. Then there are those that may not have been in Australia at this exact time but I figure if they were in Australia in December, 1969 then chances are they might have hung around for a bit longer in January, 1970.

Anyway, I'm now moving on to World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) which should be fun as they have a couple of really great wrestlers in their mix at this time, not to mention "icons" like Bruno Sammartino, George Steel and Killer Kowalski. Following this, I'll only be left with World Wrestling Association (WWA) and all the opening rosters will be finished which pleases me greatly after seven or eight months of solid work.

By the way, I'm still in need of some referees for Stampede Wrestling for this time frame if someone could please lend me some help. Thank you.

Just a small update, ladies and gentleman. I'm still in the middle of working on the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) roster which is already looking really strong but in the last couple of days I finally decided to bite the bullet and go back through everyone to fix a couple of issues I had/have with the mod. The couple of annoyances I had with it during some testing was that the earlier guys - the first workers I created like owners and bookers - weren't on a similar level to the guys I've been working on more recently. As I hope you can appreciate, as I've got further and further into the mod I've learned to understand it more so my own interpretations of people were slightly varied from then and now. So while working on the WWWF roster, I'm also looking over everyone's statistics, filling out their biographies a bit more (the amount of information I can find on people has also increased) and also sorting out their pictures. Basically, everyone who has already debuted should have a black and a white picture at the start of the game (I think it adds a little character to the mod) even if the original picture wasn't black and white, desaturating some of them myself so that they match. Also, at every opportunity - if I can find a colour image of said person - they should have an alter ego that turns them colour in 1975. Anyway, that's all folks. Further news in the next couple of weeks with a bit of luck as both this and the WWWF roster come to conclusion, allowing me to move onto the last roster, WWA.

Really excited to play this, the older the more interesting I find. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Wow, a post from the legend himself. :) I'll be sure to contact you if there is something I could use help with.

How this one coming?

My internet has been down a couple of days unfortunately, so I haven't got much done because I haven't been able to do the research and whatever else. As you can tell, it's back on now so I'm picking the batten up again and I'm still working on going through everyone (sorting out their biographies and statistics) and the WWWF roster. We're getting there though, so it shouldn't be long now before I can move onto titles and all the rest of it.

Okay, so the World Wide Wrestling Federation roster is complete and I've got to admit, it's a doozy. I've also completed all the work I decided I'd do to those I'd already completed so, in my opinion, everything is more rounded now and there are a lot more similarities between the "old" and the "new". So now it's just the World Wrestling Association and all the rosters will be done, thankfully. There isn't much information about WWA so it may actually take a while to complete because I'll have to go through results and such like to try and piece together a roster as best as I can.

I have a question for everyone, would you like me to include potential shows (adding "Monday Night Raw" and such like) or leave them out, leaving it up to the player? I've seen some historical mods include them, and some not so I was wondering what people prefer. I guess I could ask the same about pay-per-views, as I could just set them to "Dormant". Would you rather I add them or leave it up to the player?

Since it's going to be at least 13 years before the first PPV type show I think you could leave it up to the player and save yourself some work. Most people probably won't get to the ppv era, let alone Raw.

Haven't chimed in on this in a while, but I agree. Leave it up to the player.

I don't know why, since it's a feature with PPV companies, there isn't a feature to be able to set a date when a PPV debuts. I've suggested it many times in the forum but never heard anything back on why it can't be implemented. Seems like a no-brainer.

That way you can do a much more accurate historical mod.
