Editing fighters

Recommended Posts

I wonder how many here like to edit their fighters in-game.

I for one wouldn't touch anyone's fighting skills, because that feels cheapening. But what I do change sometimes is their cut-weights.

Playing as XCC it's quite a challenge to find talented fighters at the bantamweight level, and there are plenty of guys on the featherweight level (who don't cut to Bantam) who could possibly be effective at Bantam.

Example being Heiko Pander, dude is 5ft5 and a massively talented guy. But in the base game he won't drop lower than Featherweight, which seeing his height and also picbase build makes little sense. So I go into the editor and I make him able to cut to 135 so that he can debut in that division.

I also sometimes do it with guys who simply cannot buy a win at all. I am sure some guys wouldn't really want to keep losing at 155, so I make them able to cut a division lower to give them a shot there.

Vice Versa happens too, but much much less. Since most lower-class guys often are able to bulk to LW/WW from the get go.

I haven't done that recently, but with the community database meddling with the values anyway, there is no need. If the change is not too drastic and the guy has good weight cut stats, why not?

As long as you have fun it's all good. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

I don't hesitate to edit fighter skills in a real world mod if I genuinely disagree with them. We all have our own opinions on that kind of stuff, so I think it's fair as long as your goal is realism rather than just giving someone an advantage.

Unlike in TEW, more skilled fighters don't necessarily produce better ratings for your fights or shows, so it never feels cheap to me.

I tend to do whatever I want.

I once edited a guy's age to make him 2 years younger because he had wasted his prime fighting like two times in 5 years, dubiously made number 1 in the world and I wanted him to fight before he reached decline(he actually won the title somehow).

I also alter weights since they are kinda buggy in this game.

Actually, now that I think of it, I do change popularity levels (though rarely).

Sometimes I bring in fighters that have 90% pop level in Canada and change that fighter's USA popularity to 1% so they don't get the horrible penalty. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

I think USA/CAN pop levels should spill earlier, just like in TEW. If a fighter got popular in New Jersey, or a few miles away in Canada doesn't matter that much imo. Overseas might be a different matter. But as an organisation, you should be able to 'promote' your fighter enough and show some highlights so the fans will at least heard of him.

Considering the way fighter popularity seems to carry over to other countries in real life, it would make sense to see greater (and more frequent) spillover.

Maybe a system where their employer's popularity comes into play would be more realistic. Someone gaining popularity in a small promotion might not see much recognition in other countries, but once you start picking up wins in a popular promotion (about High Level Regional in WMMA terms), MMA fans worldwide are going to notice, regardless of whether or not that promotion is on PPV or TV in other regions. Even if it's just the hardcore fans, that should count for something popularity-wise.

With the default data possibly being moved forward a few years into a more modern era, it would be great to see that 'international sport' vibe reflected in the game mechanics.

Those would indeed be desired changes.

Because it does kinda make sense back in '99. That was how it worked with the press being narrow-minded. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

But when you continue along the game and you still have the same stuff in 2014, then it's an issue.

Probably the biggest turn-off about WMMA3. Signing a badass monster from Alpha-1 with GAMMA, not being able to book him in your main event because he's only mid level regional in the USA...

Actually I have zero problem editing fighters as I see fit. It's my game I do what I want. I created myself in the game and gave myself god level stats and ruled three weight divisions for 15 years. Why? Because I can.
