The Lucha Underground Thread

I probably haven't seen any Lucha Underground since about episode 4 or 5 of season 1 - but I've just watched Aztec Warfare and it was fantastic. A great match and I feel like I actually had a vague idea of what some of the big stories going on were. Great presentation and I'm really going to try and get back into this. Interested to see where they head next.

I'm already super excited for more Lucha Underground, Ultimo Lucha Dos was awesome again and there are no limits to how amazing the shows can be since they have the freedom to just do whatever will be be exciting and fresh. :D

Some of the booking was controversial (like Pentagon Jr) but I enjoyed it. I'm convinced they planned Seasons 1-3 as a trilogy of sorts so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

And they had about 7-8 injured wrestlers to work around. I'm glad the last 2 weren't aired in January like season 1 because that killed any excitement I had for the inferior Royal Rumble. I wouldn't mind if WWE ripped it off for 1 of PPVs next year.</p>

SPOILERS COMING

Yeah, it was nice of them to move the match so as to help the WWE look less amateurish. :p I really thought Matanza was going to run through the entire roster, with the possible exception of Mil Muertes. Speaking of which, those two are awesome monsters. Enter, destroy, destroy some more, don't get overexposed by being in too many matches too often. It has been fun to watch. :D

Also, Sexy Star! :D

<p>LU don't rest on their laurels. The post-Aztec Warfare show was stacked.</p><p> </p><p>

I love the White Rabbit Tribe. Just like Famous B it's a fun Chikara-style gimmick.</p><p> </p><p>

You can tell Killshot and Dante Fox have indie history by their insane chemistry. Great match. They could steal the show at Ultima Lucha with a No DQ blowoff match.</p><p> </p><p>

Sexy Star vs Mundo was good.</p>

<p>LU is on a hot streak after the Gauntlet episode. I'd love to see Pentagon beat someone big like Prince Puma at Ultima Lucha Tres. It's a shame the Joshi wrestlers aren't returning to LU from I heard (and the wrestler playing Black Lotus is pregnant).</p><p> </p><p>

I know WWE are interested in 2 of them. I doubt they will sign long term deals but I hope there's a chance they appear on the Women's Classic show next year.</p>

Holy crap how awesome is this cult promotion? Just watched Ultimo Lucha Tres part II on youtube after catching part I last week. The sheer emotion near the end made me shed tears of joy. I'm not a fan of the traditional lucha concept but this is fresh if you've been seeing nothing but WWE's cheap formula.

I only imagine how great it must be to see this after seeing the buildup, which I obviously missed. I'll be watching this every week if I can.

Lucha Underground season 1 was best storytelling in the wrestling I have ever seen in my life.

Second season was more about stars of LU rather than storylines itself but still stories were great but S1 outshined S2.

S3, and I just didn't felt I was waiting LU. Most my fav characters were either absent for a long time or just outright left the LU. What made it worse me, is that they were replaced by American Indy guys and to make it even worse, they were in LU without a mask or some Lucha Myth behind their character.

All 3 seasons have fantastic Wrestling. Prince Puma introduced me to Ricochet and which in turn made me watch the flippys**t match between him and Ospreay, which served as my gateway to NJPW Juniors.

Sad thing is, maybe S3 is their last. There are talks about continuing it with almost negligible budget and less episodes. We will see what happens.

No spoilers but Season 3 started off pretty slow but since the <span style="color:#FFFFFF;">Ceuto Cup</span> started the build to Ultima Lucha Tres (and the first 2 parts of that) have been really good. LU is the master of building up epic feuds and blowing them off with strong matches. Ultima Lucha Tres has been pretty bloody so far... not for the squeamish LOL.

The Ultima Lucha Tres finale was off the hook insane. I marked out like a little kid a few times. Overall the best PPV/Special of the year, IMO. It better not get cancelled... <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Ultima Lucha Tres was indeed super awesome. I was spoilered on the results going into the event having done some L-U research for Fleisch's mod a while back. But even knowing that, the matches were awesome and the delivery was fantastic. I always love the season finales too... they know they aren't coming back for a little while, so they can blow things off big time and they can give the roster reasons to come back again next time at the same time. The seeds for another season are sown and I'm ready for more. :D

<p>LU is finding its feet again after a rocky start to the season.</p><p> </p><p>

Greylocke, you're right. With a tight budget for full-time contracts and in-demand talent not always available for the taping schedule, the roster has been in flux. The new and returning talent has been pretty good except for Swagger/Strong who's just doing his some mediocre moveset from WWE and doesn't have the acting skills to pull off his new gimmick.</p><p> </p><p>

I really hope Dante Fox comes back later this season. He was one of the MVPs last season.</p>

I can't even tell that Jake Strong has a gimmick at all. He's most certainly the worst acquisition in LU history. I mean, he's not the worst wrestler, but from what I've seen thus far he's the only one who really doesn't contribute anything special to the show, in any manner. Most of the jobbers previous seasons were more interesting than him.

Killshot probably has the best-told all-round, consistent character story throughout all 4 seasons. It feels like one big epic arc spanning across 3 seasons and coming full circle for this finale, with hardly any crappy or letdown points. If this is the end of the character, I can still close the book feeling satisfied.

There were better moments/individual matches/story arcs from other characters, but nothing else matches this in longevity and all-round consistent quality.

<p>I wasn't sold on Swagger at first but he's had some the best matches of his entire career in LU and an interesting shift in character (related to Limo Lord maybe). Helps that he has quality talent to work with.</p><p> </p><p>

Killshot vs Son of Havoc was great. That was a good sendoff for Strickland who will be in NXT next year after he gets out of his MLW contract. If Dante Fox doesn't follow him I hope his role gets expanded.</p>
