[RELEASE] Risky Business (Jan 1985)

Recommended Posts

I didn't read through all of these posts to see if you planned on updating this mod at all, but I noticed that Jerry Lawler starts at 78 Sex Appeal. While the King is quite the handsome man, I think 78 might be a tad too high :)

At least that wasn't on Dutch Mantell.:p And honestly as revered as he is in Memphis, he could have dated pretty much any woman he wanted so maybe that's not that off.

Semi-related: my brother bought me a stack of old wrestling magazines from the mid-80's a couple of months ago at a flea market (I think.) The earliest magazines I could ever remember reading were from like '92-'93, so it was kind of cool for me to see something older. One thing that really struck me was the advertisements, most of which were for:

-guns (not just pistols, but like assault rifles and stuff)

-semi-pornographic books/magazines and female wrestling fetish videos

There was not one ad in any of the magazines for wrestling toys or merchandise, beyond one lone Hulk Hogan poster. It really illustrated to me just how much Vince has changed the business and who it is marketed towards.

<p>While we're on the subject, is JCP set up correctly? What I mean is that some of the key things on how the 4 Horsemen were formed aren't there. There's no Thunderbolt Patterson or National Tag Team titles which is how Ole turned heel and Flair is a face. I mean I've done an easy workaround in my game, which is set for its first big event where they're going to be formed (Tully in charge, Savage, Masked Superstar (Randy and Eadie ended up with excellent tag chemistry), and Arn--because Arn should be there). Poor Dusty shouldn't get into any cage matches. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

It worked out anyway because Ole is on serious decline so no point on using him (I got a pretty bad roll on that as Wahoo has the retirement note while Ole, Billy Graham, Ivan, and Ron Bass of all people are all 3-4 years past their prime note). Not to mention Terry Funk was "too big" for JCP so he's been seriously jobbed out the door.</p><p> </p><p>

After finding out that WWF can run just one house show and do okay, my advice for anyone playing JCP is to keep both house shows for a month. That will let you hit Cult (run 6 of the 8 in the SE while the TV show in the Mid-Atlantic) right at the end of the month. May want to trigger it with an early house show in Feb. so you get the free Regional money for Jan.</p>

I added Thunderbolt Patterson to JCP. Since he's an Occasional Wrestler, it didn't really disrupt the auto-pushes of everyone else. As for the NWA National Tag Team Titles, JCP has seven titles as it is. I could try adding them and running a test to see how the AI handles all of those titles.

Yeah, I know they were over-burdened with titles. Honestly, they never really seemed to push the Jr. Heavyweight title much (I usually get rid of it in every game I play in the 80's though most of that is I hate low-level titles), and the 6-Man tag belts were only interesting when the Road Warriors were there.

One question that probably should be elsewhere but I'm here so I'll leave it here. Is it possible for the regions to drop by tenths of points that don't show up? I ask because after running the big show and killing everyone in the Regional battles (I dropped out of the NWA for reasons I've stated elsewhere), I had enough pop (viewed in the editor) that I was over the 47 Importance requirement in Mid-Atlantic and South East regions to be Cult but wasn't. I had to jump the SE region up a couple of tenths and the Mid Atlantic around 0.4 which made no sense (53.0 pop vs 90% = 47.7 in every math I know of). Both regions stayed at the 90 and 95 Importance so I'm stumped. I only cleared $120,000 so Cult should be terrifying.

Oh, I misspoke. It was Magnum in the cage match so it was better than wrecking his car but still not a good time. Dusty rescued Flair because evidently I'm booking like Anderz now (even though they haven't been going at each other in this universe).

I'll mull over the title situation. As for dropping regions, are you talking about the Game World section? I have thought about tinkering with that because of the money issues, though I'm not 100% positive if that has an effect on it or not (someone with more knowledge of how the regions work can better enlighten me). On the same token, you don't want to lower community and importance too much because then you'll struggle to get good attendances, if I'm not mistaken.

Well, History Professor Vincent K. McMahon does tell us that before Wrestlemania was a huge hit, wrestling promotions never sold out anywhere bigger than your local bar room or sweaty gymnasium :p

Yeah he doesn't want anyone to remember the real "Gran' Daddy of 'em All" Starrcade was drawing 16,000 people for two years prior to his pretender to the throne WrestleMania. :p

I am basing the game world off the Cornellverse seems to be logical choice. Running tests it works out pretty good in the 1983 mod. Your game world area set up looks good. I don't think you have a problem with that. I have seen the problem Smartman is talking about before running ironically JCP in the 83 mod and the WWF as well. It might be game issue not the mod itself.

And let's not forget the sold out crowds at Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth every Monday night when World Class taped their Saturday night show there, along with the big crowds they had at Texas Stadium and the Cotton Bowl. :p:D

That's pretty much what I was trying to base my game world off of, the Cornellverse. Wonder what the gameplay issue might be.

Okay, I wasn't clear. One of the things new in 2013 is that the regions can gain and lose importance over time. I've seen it in other games I've played, but it only shows up in increments of one (so from 90 down to 89). Somehow, the math didn't work for me to not be at Cult after everything processed at the end of the month so I was asking if the Region Importance could drop to like 89.7 from 90 or 94.6 from 95. If Al saw that in his mod, maybe there is something wrong with the game.

Just to repost for Matt. Basically, it seems like when the game processes the Regional battles if the pop gain pushes you over from Regional to Cult (don't know if that happens at other levels), the game doesn't jump you to Cult. It doesn't even take a day for it to figure it out. So, you have to manually raise your pop in the 2 regions even more than should be necessary (a couple of tenths) and then advance another day so it takes effect. It probably would have been fine after I ran the 2 TV shows (they jump everywhere by 0.4), but it is an annoyance as you want to hit Cult as early in the month so you're not paying people 2 times on PPA (TV and one house show) and then Written for the month.

Now, back to The Four Horsemen try to take out all the Faces while all 4 of the Freebirds get ready to fight the incoming Road Warriors. All while I try not to go broke and get people to fail their drug tests so I can get them to quit them. Seriously, that Medium Level either gets a bunch at a time or 1 per 2 weeks.

Not sure if I'm totally getting you on the regions. Are you saying leave the maximums and minimums as is, but maybe lower the current levels just a bit since those levels can go up or down over time?

No, I'm saying the regions are fine as they are. Them changing over time is okay, I guess (you set the min/max better than some others so kudos on that). There's nothing wrong with your settings in the mod. Evidently, the game has a glitch that I ran into is all.

Oh, one other random question. Does it matter if you have any trainers or quality of trainers in your development fed? In 2010, you needed good ones, but I sent people down before I got any trainers. When I got the trainers, nothing changed on what could be improved. Is that just an overview of what skills can go up a lot/some/not much, and having good trainers accelerates the increase or not?

The only thing mod related is that my weekly house shows barely make any money for some reason. I'm chalking that up to my pop not being high enough as the ticket price goes up the higher the pop is. The industry and economy aren't great either (but getting better).

Trainers that are still active wrestlers do benefit those in development because say you have someone like Dean Malenko in 2000 and send him down. Every guy he wrestles against in the developmental promotion will improve in technical skills.

Out of ring trainers are trickier if they aren't road agents. I generally send down a poor announcer and an older announcer down at the same time and the poor announcer usually gets boosts to his announcing ability faster than he did without the trainer.

Trainers aren't mandatory and don't give immediate changes to what workers can improve on, but it does increase the chance that a worker will learn certain skills if that makes any sense.

Bruce Prichard aka Brother Love is missing in the database. If you want I will keep you updated on the ones I find missing? I am using your mod for alter egos.

Is he not in the latest update? I know I just put him in, but can't remember if he was in the last update, or if I put him in for the next one. And yes, keep me updated on missing workers. Thank you!
