Why is Vince Russo speaking for WCW? He was the head writer for WWF until near the end of 1999. He was a pretty big part of what made the Attitude Era work and how WWF even made a come back.

That my friend is because when i set up the game I put in russo as ayden's user for the lol's. We know it's extremely inaccurate but we thought it'd make thing funnier :p

Juventud Guerrera vs Rey Mysterio Jr

Comments: As much as I do like Juvi a bit better, Rey is the golden boy of the Cruiser division.

Chris Jericho vs Wrath

Comments: Wrath can go places, whereas Jericho right now is in complete limbo.

Bill Goldberg vs Brad Armstrong

Comments: He's next.

Faces Of Fear vs Glacier & Ernest Miller

Comments: Whereas I say Wrath could go places, his former enemies not so much.

Disco Inferno vs Scott Hall

Comments: One thing I always liked about Hall was that he was the big member of the nWo who would have matches against the younger crew.

Chris Benoit vs Kidman

Comments: Benoit is on a much bigger position than Billy.

Buff Bagwell vs Lex Luger

Comments: Buff takes it by countout or DQ.

United States Heavyweight Championship Match

Curt Hennig © w/Rick Rude vs Diamond Dallas Page

Comments: A cheap win for Curt so that DDP takes the belt from him at Starrcade.

Well he'd be out with a neck injury for quite awhile longer. By this point he was already taken off TV and was never seen on WCW TV again.

Correct, Syxx is out for another 5 months and 3 weeks.

As for the Russo thing, Pack did indeed surprise me with that one but I realised I hadn't written anything to explain it story-wise, so I have edited my initial write-up with a quick sentence or two, just because :)

WCW Monday Nitro #1

December 1st, 1997

Memphis Liberty Bowl, TN

Attendance: 32,712

Show Grade: 72 (B-)

The announcers start by welcoming us to Monday Nitro and hyping Lex Luger vs Buff Bagwell for later in the night and also Curt Hennig vs Diamond Dallas Page for the United States Heavyweight Championship in tonights main event.

Tony:
"But I'm getting word from backstage right now that Gene Okerlund is with Eric Bischoff!"

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Gene%20Okerlund.jpghttp://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Eric%20Bischoff.jpg

Mean Gene questions Bischoff about his agreement to wrestle Larry Zbyszko last week on Nitro. Bischoff comes back by saying that the agreement was only good for last week and no longer applies.

Eric:
"The only way I will wrestle Zbyszko at Starrcade is if he puts Nitro on the line and he doesn't have the power to do it so the match...isn't happening."

Our first match of the night saw two of the best cruiserweights in the world go toe to toe as Rey Mysterio took on Juventud Guerrera. This was evenly matched as you would expect, with the history between these two. Rey Mysterio seemed to injure his knee after Guerrera avoided a springboard attack attempt from Rey. This allowed Juvy to gain the advantage for a while until Mysterio managed to counter a hurricanrana attempt into a pin for a very close two count. Mysterio ended up winning with a very nice Hurricanrana of his own where he had Guerrera seated on the turnbuckle and Mysterio springboarded from the apron.

Winner: Rey Mysterio Jr

Match Score: 58

Before the next match we are shown Ravens flock sitting at ringside but missing their leader

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Chris%20Jericho.jpg VS http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Wrath.jpg

Our next match was a bit of a David vs Goliath scenario as Chris Jericho took on Wrath. Jericho tried to use his speed advantage to start the match, ducking and weaving while hitting fast kicks. Jericho attempted a running cross body but Wrath just caught him in mid-air and dumped him over the top rope. Wrath then hit a cannonball flip off the apron to the floor on Jericho. Wrath rolled Jericho back into the ring and was toying with him for a while. Wrath went to hit his 'Death Penalty' finisher when Mortis told Wrath to let him take a shot at him. While Wrath and Mortis were arguing, Jericho rolled Wrath up for the upset victory.

Winner: Chris Jericho

Match Score: 42

We cut back to Mean Gene backstage who has the World Heavyweight Champion, Hollywood Hulk Hogan with him. Before Gene can even ask a question, Hogan snatches the mic off of him and starts ranting angrily about how much he despises Sting and how he will destroy him at Starrcade.

Hogan:
Sting, just remember this brother. There is only one black n white that matters in WCW and that is the black and white of the N...W...O

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Tony%20Schiavone.jpghttp://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Mike%20Tenay.jpghttp://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Dusty%20Rhodes.jpg

The announce team hype the main event between Curt Hennig and DDP for the United States Heavyweight Championship but also talk about the upcoming match between the veteran Brad Armstrong and the young up-n-comer Bill Goldberg

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Goldberg.jpg VS http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Brad%20Armstrong.jpg

This one started fairly evenly, with Armstrong using tricks like a sneaky thumb to the eye whenever Goldberg started gaining momentum. However, after a couple of minutes...

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Steve%20McMichael.jpg

Steve 'Mongo' McMichael appears on the stage, lead pipe in hand, much like the one he jumped Goldberg with backstage at World War 3. Mongos appearance only motivated Goldberg though as he made quick work of Armstrong after that, hitting him with a vicious clothesline, then sending him to the ropes to cut him in half with a Spear. Goldberg then picked Armstrong up for the Jackhammer, holding him up for what seemed like an eternity, all the while not taking his eyes off of Mongo on the stage. Finally, Goldberg put Armstrong out of his misery and got the pinfall.

Winner: Bill Goldberg

Match Score: 40

After the match, Goldberg challenged McMichael to come to the ring, to which Mongo replied by simply shaking his head and leaving.

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Meng.jpghttp://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/The%20Barbarian.jpg w/http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Jimmy%20Hart.jpg vs http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Glacier.jpghttp://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Ernest%20Miller.jpg

Our next match was a rematch from World War 3 as the Faces Of Fear went against Ernest Miller and Glacier. This one wasn't as close as their match at WW3 though as Meng locked the Tongan Death Grip on Ernest Miller after a few short minutes and got the 3 count. Interestingly, Glacier just watched as his teammate was pinned and didn't intervene.

Winners: The Faces Of Fear (Meng and The Barbarian)

Match Score: 51

</div>

We cut back to the announce team who talk about how Disco Inferno has been down on his luck since losing to Jacqueline at Halloween Havoc. They then transition into the next match

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Disco%20Inferno.jpghttp://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Jacqueline.jpg

Dusty: Maybe he has finally gotten the message that disco is dead

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Disco%20Inferno.jpg VS http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Scott%20Hall.jpg

Discos bad luck was destined to continue as this one was never in question. Hall toyed with Disco for a few minutes before putting him away with the Outsiders Edge.

Winner: Scott Hall

Match Score: 57

After the match, Kevin Nash came down to the ring and then Hall grabbed a microphone.

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Kevin%20Nash.jpg

Hall started by taking a little survey. Him and Nash then took turns degrading Disco Inferno, mocking him about how he can't even beat a woman. They then turn their attention to The Giant and mock him relentlessly, knowing that he isn't in the building

Nash: I don't know who's sadder. The disco guy who lost to a woman or the supposed Giant who isn't here because he has a sore thumb.

</div>

The announcers say that some breaking news has developed and send it backstage to Gene Okerlund who is with JJ Dillon

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Gene%20Okerlund.jpghttp://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/JJ%20Dillon.jpg

Okerlund asks JJ what this is about and Dillon starts talking about how Bischoff said earlier that he would only wrestle Zbyszko if Nitro was on the line...

Dillon: Eric, you may be right in saying Larry Zbyszko doesn't have the power to put Nitro on the line at Starrcade. Well I do. So at Starrcade, it will be Larry Zbyszko vs Eric Bischoff with the winner getting control of WCW Monday Nitro!

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">

The next match is advertised as Raven vs Chris Benoit but as David Penzer is about to announce the match, Raven walks out from the back with a microphone.

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Raven.jpg

Raven talks about how he has signed a contract but he will not conform. He said his contract stipulates that he wrestles when he wants, who he wants and under what rules he wants. Raven then says that Kidman will be wrestling in his place today

Raven: Benoit, until you join me, I will make your life a living hell. Tonight, your match will be wrestled under Ravens Rules. Quoth the raven...nevermore

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Kidman.jpg VS http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Chris%20Benoit.jpg

While this match would seem straight forward on paper, Benoit was constantly distracted by Raven and his flock at ringside and the distractions allowed Kidman to get some offense in. Surprisingly though, once Benoit started getting some offense in, Raven was stopping his Flock members from interfering. Benoit finished Kidman off with the Crippler Crossface.

Winner: Chris Benoit

Match Score: 42

As soon as the match finished, Raven allowed the Flock to run in and beat down Benoit, who actually managed to do a good job of fighting them off until Saturn struck him from behind with the TV Title. Raven hit Benoit with an Even Flow DDT for good measure, leaving him laying.

</div>

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Lex%20Luger.jpg VS http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Buff%20Bagwell.jpg w/ http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Vincent.jpg

This match started with the obligatory pose down. The fans cheered Luger and Buff acted surprised and attacked Luger as he was doing another pose. Bagwell continued to beat on Luger but he couldn't help but pose for the crowd as well which allowed Luger to get back into the match. Throughout the match, Vincent kept distracting Luger by trash talking and teasing getting into the ring but one time, he got a little too cocky and actually climbed up onto the apron to get in the ring. Luger clotheslined him off the apron and countered a Bagwell attack into the Torture Rack, making Bagwell tap out.

Winner: Lex Luger

Match Score: 60

Vincent ran in after the match and started beating on Luger but as per usual, he was overpowered. However, the distraction allowed Bagwell to hit Luger with the Blockbuster. Bagwell posed over Luger to close the segment.

</div>

A split-screen showing Hennig and DDP walking from the backstage area to the ring is shown with the announcers hyping the main event for after the break

<div style="background-color:#ffffff;border-style:solid;border-width:3px";">

United States Heavyweight Championship Match

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Curt%20Hennig.jpg w/ http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Rick%20Rude.jpg VS http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/DDP.jpg

The odds were definitely stacked against DDP as every time he gained an advantage, Rick Rude was there with a distraction, allowing Hennig to recover. Eventually, Page had enough of Rudes constant involvement and decided to try and stop Rude on his own. Of course, the ref wouldn't allow DDP to attack a non-wrestler and while the ref was reprimanding DDP, Rude slipped a pair of brass knuckles to Hennig who slipped them on, and then clocked DDP with them and he was out cold. Hennig slid the object back to Rude and then picked up DDPs lifeless body and hit the Hennig Plex to succesfully defend his title.

Winner: Curt Hennig

Match Score: 65

After the match, Hennig started stomping DDP and Savage and Hogan decided to join the fun.

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Hollywood%20Hogan.jpghttp://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Randy%20Savage.jpg

As the three nWo members beat on DDP, who literally couldn't fight back at all, the fans started chanting for Sting. While the mysterious one didn't answer the calls, somebody else did...

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Bret%20Hart.jpg

The building erupted as Hart ran down and started raining punches on all three of the nWo but eventually the numbers game caught up to Hart until the lights went out...

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae243/aydendugmore/97%202%20player%20dynasty/WCW%20ngo/Sting.jpg

When the lights came back on, Sting was in the ring with his bat. Sting managed to take out both Hennig and Savage as Hogan made a run for it, wanting none of his Starrcade opponent. As Hart was tending to DDP, the lights went out again and as they came back on, Sting was gone, leaving Hart looking confused in the ring to end the show.

</div>

OOC: I decided to run my first episode of Nitro as closely as I could to the RL episode with a couple of twists here and there but it didn't quite work out how I wanted. To say I was disappointed with the score for this episode is an understatement so expect to see things stray quite far from real life in the near future. Thanks for reading
