It's simple and it builds hype for that match. Also, people in 1987 thought video packages made with top line tech from the time would probably think it looks great because they don't know anything better yet. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> That being said, for an opening video and pyro the rating probably is still a bit high but I am generally okay with historical mods having inflated stats. Typically I play them for the nostalgia so a lower challenge in favor of being able to build more super cards and things like that is perfectly okay in my view.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Don't worry, I wasn't criticizing the mod, I have no problem with anything like that. I agree that historical mods are about fantasy booking rather than challenging realism, at least that's how I play them whenever I do. I just got a funny mental image of people jumping off their sofas, holding their heads going "WOW! Oh my God! That was the best thing I ever saw!! This is going to be the best show in history! It has to be! Arghhh!!!" after the opening video package <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>
mrwhippy
To be fair WWE do and always have done some amazing video packages. They can get you hyped for anything when they put the effort in.

smartman
Don't worry, I wasn't criticizing the mod, I have no problem with anything like that. Arghhh!!!" after the opening video package Honestly, I think the focus on that angle is a little misplaced. It was a simple Overness angle that had probably 2-6 of the biggest stars in it. It could have been titled "Hogan Opens Door And Chats With Savage" (so it is 6 minutes long), and it would have scored 100. That has nothing to do with the mod as once you play a mod long enough, you'll get 100's off Overness-based angles. Same thing with Much Pop Feds spamming 98-100 matches. It's a game, and when you play it well (and long enough), that will happen. A bad mod would be starting a game with Bret Hart in 87 getting 90+ ratings on his angles because he's a tag team guy in the midcard at this time. Or a performance-based fed having The Road Warriors spitting out 90+ rated matches because their psych and selling were terrible. Saying a mod isn't "about realism" just because people can pop out great angles is just ridiculous. Nobody has batted an eye when they start up the Cornellverse and see the AI have 4 MOTY candidates in the first 4 days or can get 95+ matches themselves in it. As long as the right people are used, anyone can do that. There's a reason Adam put in the 3-match limit per 6 months. A bad mod is one that features wrestlers doing things out of the gate that weren't historically accurate. I see nothing in that show that was way out of line once you realize what type of angles he used. Unless you think Hogan, Piper, and DiBiase never cut amazing promos irl. I really wish people would stop attacking or looking down on mods. It's been going on here (I'm a TEW original for the record) for way too long and is usually baseless. Teh_Showtime
Andrews was up to 84 popularity by this match and past that, managing momentum is pretty much all that I can think of. Andrews was at major positive and Golden was at positive.

I always thought the performance-based product rather than pop-equals-perf product made it very hard to push a guy like Golden.
Teh_Showtime
<p>Golden in 2016 is pretty much one of the best big men in the game. Maybe a grade off the best brawlers but youth to develop, good performance skills, and SQ in droves.</p><p> </p><p> You could go the pop = performance route, but compared to his 2013 self, Rocky is a ratings machine and I think it would end up hurting the midcard as a collective more than it would help Golden. He can already cut 90+ promos and have great matches so I don't see much upward mobility if you change the product. On the other hand I can bring in random developmental guys for my B show who can have matches far better than they would if the product was more popularity based.</p>

It's just...well, I always found it hard to run TCW as a performance-based company myself. I never quite "got" it, because I generally find it hard to run heavily mainstream company that is also performance based (but that's just me, though). Dawn
Even I can't explain this. Swagger has C+ overness all over the US and was the sole rated participant in the promo (entertainment, with improvising). Later on, my World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler cut a B+ rated promo. Huh...
