Chapter 36: We’re gonna need a bigger room… Again!

The show starts with Jim Smallman coming out to the ring as usual to a huge applause from a sold out crowd for the first ever Brixton show.

Alright guys, this is a bit crazy eh? Honestly I had absolutely no idea how well this show would sell but you crazy bunch have actually sold it out. Now, onto some good news. From January every single London show will be from here which means Chapter 38 will be the last show for now from the Electric Ballroom. Also Chapter 39 will not only be only be the last show of the year but the last from the Ritz in Manchester as we will be upgrading to a larger venue in Manchester, more news soon on that. No more rambling on from me now, we’ve got 7 huge matches tonight that should be pretty damn great. Remember the one simple rule of PROGRESS… Don’t be a dick!

ICW got revenge in a slightly underwhelming match. The finish came when Toni Storm went for a hot tag to Jinny who refused the tag and walked out on the match leaving poor Toni vulnerable to the wolves and Kay Lee Ray hit a springboard code red for the win in just over 9 minutes.

In a decent match we got new Tag Team Champions as Pastor William Eaver and Chuck Mambo both won their first titles in PROGRESS when the Pastor hit Jackie Polo with a Clothesline from Heaven at 11.02. Post-match they cracked open the beers Steve Austin style and celebrated in the crowd with the fans. Going forward it shall be interesting how long they can stay champs if they continue to not take matches 100% serious.

In his final ever entrance at the end of an 18 year career Kurt Angle entered the Squared Circle to his old WWE ‘Medal’ theme. The match was a true technical masterpiece with both men trading holds for just over 20 minutes before Doug Williams forced Angle to tap out to his own Ankle lock when both men had tears in their eyes when they knew it was over. An incredible end to an incredible career.

Pre-match Team ICW won the coin toss and thus earned the right to have the first entrant after 5 minutes. Noam Dar and Joe Coffey started the match for their teams with it being even until Stevie Boy entered, Dar managed to hold his own for about 30 seconds until he was left to be given a beatdown by the two Scots until fellow Origin member Zack Gibson came in and evened things up but as soon as The Origin began to get any sort of momentum going Mikey Whiplash entered the cages and the big man from Stoke made his presence known.

Next in is Rampage Brown who goes straight after Whiplash and the two begin slugging it out back and forth. Former ICW Champion Jack Jester comes in next followed by Eddie Dennis and the match begins to get bloody with Whiplash being busted open the hard way when he is thrown into the cage by Zack Gibson.

ICW’s final man Drew Galloway enters next and goes after Gibson to get revenge and drops him with a DDT before cleaning house and taking down the other 3 PROGRESS guys and ICW have complete control until the final man enters the match and Mark Andrews enters with a huge springboard crossbody onto Stevie Boy and Whiplash and momentum switches again at the vital time with PROGRESS gaining control of the match and just shortly after the match had hit the 32 minute mark The Pride of Wales Eddie Dennis locked in an STF to Mikey Whiplash forcing him to tap out giving PROGRESS the win meaning everyone in ICW must leave the building immediately and they did but not without a few choice words that definitely aren’t PG.

In a rather strange match Jack Sexsmith will go down in the record books as a winner here despite it coming after Jack Gallagher had enough of his comedy and walked out of the match hence Sexsmith won via Count Out. Both guys clearly had different styles that they wanted to show and when Sexsmith called for his gimp to come out from under the ring it was the final straw for the Gentleman who wanted a traditional no silliness wrasslin match.

Making his first appearance in the UK since 2014 where he worked a Butlins tour for ASW, the fourth generation wrestler came out in a losing effort against the Bruiserweight Pete Dunne after the ref was accidentally knocked down when Dunne dodged out the way of a Finlay Jr flying uppercut. Jimmy Havoc ran down to the ring and slid Pete Dunne a chair taking Finlay Jr out for the win.

Right, listen to me. While I’ve been away with me injury I’ve been watching this place very closely and quite frankly it’s turned into a mess. Jim, what happened to PROGRESS? The PROGRESS I built to the top. Your original motive was all ‘ooo let’s help British Wrestling using Brits and it’ll help us woop de doo’ but then you go and beg to some Scot to help you sell out Brixton, why didn’t you call me? I was ready to go but no, you didn’t care about the longest reigning PROGRESS Champion of all time.

Also this Cruiserweight Classic cr*p, what’s that about? Just because you gave Regal a 50% off voucher for a coffee in Costa doesn’t mean your best mates now, what happened to building our own brand? We really don’t need the Fed’s help. This is bloody PROGRESS but you’ve been regressing. Anyway, forget that let’s look to the future, one where I’m the face of this company once again. When people think about PROGRESS they should be thinking about one person, me.

I’ve enlisted the help of an old friend, Mr Pete Dunne over here, there really isn’t any doubt that he’s the #2 wrestler on the roster right now yet he’s overshadowed by others such as Marty Scurll or William Ospreay, look at damn Ospreay he’s always off to bloody Japan and now he’s bringing his little Villian friend over there with him? Absolutely ridiculous. Mark Haskins I here is also going over there and he just bloody lost easily to some Vanilla Midget in a Star Wars Cosplay how is anyone supposed to take him seriously? Where was my call? I’m the best in the UK and they get chosen over me? Am I jealous? Of course I am. PROGRESS, prepare for hell because what you saw last time was nothing.

In a great technical match where Marty Scurll seemed very respectful and less Villainy than his usual self he picked up the win in 23 minutes with the crossface chickenwing after a great showing from Doug Williams who pushed Marty all the way proving yet again despite his age he is certainly nowhere near done.

The Villain has the challenge of 5 men who are all hungry and could very easily take the belt off him if he isn't on top form.

Thunderbastard Rules:

Two men start the match and the other four men will enter in timed intervals Royal Rumble style with eliminations occuring through Pinfall, Submission and DQ. The last remaining man will be crowned the PROGRESS World Champion.

Just caught up on the last two shows, and oh my sweet jesus Jimmy f'n Havoc is back! Marked out a bit when reading it.

Scurll vs Dar vs Dunne vs Havoc vs Sabre Jr vs Ospreay

I feel this is the best match to pull the strap off of Scurll, and put it on the recent returning Havoc without the Villain looking weak at all.

Doug Williams vs Tommy End

Gettin' that rub.

Zack Gibson vs TK Cooper

Dave Mastiff vs T-Bone

Stu Bennett vs Michael Dante

Sweet Jesus vs ??

Who accepts the open challenge? : David Finlay Jr. and Fit Finlay

Completely out there guess, but i'd pop for it regardless :p

My only feedback so far is that real-life Jimmy Havoc would say c**t a hell of a lot more. But the .gif you had of him at his return more than made up for it.

Instead of the usual scene of Jim Smallman opening the show welcoming everyone to the show we are greeted by current Tag Team Champions Pastor William Eaver and Chuck Mambo out on mini turquoise and orange tricycles.

Mambo takes to the mic: How’s it going Camdeeennnnnnnn, your favourite tag team are here. We asked Jim to start the show as quite frankly we’re being forced to defend the titles when we’d rather be out partying so if anyone wants a shot get your ass out here and let’s get this over quickly so we can buy you a beer.

A guitar riff of ‘London Bridge’ hits the speakers and a few people in the audience recognise it immediately but then ‘****ing in the bushes’ by Oasis starts and out through the curtain comes former ROH World Champion and the longest ever ROH Pure Champion, Nigel McGuinness!

Good evening fellas, I was sat in the back and couldn’t help but come out here when you offered a chance at the PROGRESS Titles and trust me, I’d love nothing more than to get in there and Lariat the both of you however I shall not be doing that. Instead I’m here to introduce a few friends of mine who will be more than happy to do so, two men that quite frankly hate the fact that you two are making a mockery out of PROGRESS, you’re supposed to be representing the company with some class. Introducing the soon to be PROGRESS Tag Team Champions… Jack Gallagher and Darrell Allen.

In a decent opener Jack Gallagher and Darrell Allen were crowned the new PROGRESS Tag Team Champions after defeating Sweet Jesus on their first attempt at defending the Shield. During the match Gallagher and Allen adhered to the rules 100% giving clean breaks at the count of 1 and their technical mat based offense keeping Mambo and Eaver to the ground worked to their advantage as they were far superior in that aspect.

Post-Match despite winning the “belts” they left them in the ring as Nigel took to the mic and promised to bring fresh, exciting matchups along with nice new shiny belts that Champions of their calibre deserve.

Pre-match Jim Smallman made his first appearance of the night to run down the rules of the match where eliminations happen through Pinfall, Submission and DQ.

The two men to start the match were the Aerial Assassin Will Ospreay making his return to PROGRESS and Pete Dunne. The two exchanged moves with both men unable to get the best of the other until 3 minutes had passed and AFI hit the speakers and out comes Jimmy Havoc slowly walking to the ring distracted Will Ospreay and Pete Dunne rolled him up to eliminate Ospreay early on. Havoc then entered the ring and the two sat crossed legged in the centre of the canvas over the top of the PROGRESS logo as the clock ran down.

Next out is the Jewdi Master, Noam Dar who sprints to the ring onto to be struck down by a big spear from Pete Dunne who props up his limp body into the arms of Jimmy Havoc who delivers an Acid Rainmaker and just like that in less than 30 seconds Noam Dar is eliminated.

Once again Havoc and Dunne run down the clock sitting back down until the next entrant is revealed and it’s the current PROGRESS Champion, Marty Scurll. He takes his time walking to the ring learning from Dar’s mistake burning at least a minute and a half as he circles the ring umbrella in hand. He finally gets into the ring and somehow manages to hold his own against the two men for about 30 seconds until Dunne hits a lariat just as Zack Sabre Jr’s music comes on and he sprints down to the ring going straight after Jimmy Havoc and it’s now 2v2 as they Scurll and Dunne brawl in the ring while Havoc and Sabre Jr choose to take the outside as their playground.

Seemingly out of nowhere Scurll locks in a crossface chicken wing and Pete Dunne taps out leaving Jimmy Havoc all alone against the two men that once tagged together as the Leaders of the New School however those days are long gone as proved by Scurll as hit a huge suicide dive out the ring crashing into both ZSJ and Havoc. On the dive Scurll seemed to hurt his left arm and Jim Smallman went over to him to see if he was ok.

Meanwhile Havoc and Sabre Jr had jumped back into the ring and Havoc dropped Sabre Jr on his head with a package piledriver to eliminate him leaving Havoc one on one alone with an injured Scurll. Havoc jumped outside the ring and pushed away Jim Smallman and referee Chris Roberts to throw Scurll back into the ring and he began stomping his arm before signalling for Pete Dunne to run in from the back despite his elimination who brought Handcuffs and an umbrella with him. The referee warned Havoc that any involvement from either Dunne or the foreign objects would DQ him but Havoc didn’t care as he proceeded to handcuff the injured arm to the top rope and began swinging at the arm leaving Scurll powerless screaming in agony. Jimmy Havoc eventually had to be restrained by several members of security who were all pushed away by Havoc and Dunne receiving Umbrella shots of their own for trying to help. Zack Sabre Jr, Will Ospreay and Noam Dar then rushed into the ring forcing Havoc and Dunne to retreat away knowing that being outnumbered won’t work.

In a solid opener with a surprise result New Zealand’s TK Cooper became number 1 contender to the PROGRESS World Championship after he punched David Finlay Jr in the jaw knocking him out in just under 11 minutes. Post-match he celebrated with a kiss with Dahlia Black, isn’t that lovely.

Visibly frustrated after the match Mark Haskins who failed yet again to pick up the victory finally snapped as he let out his aggression on Mark Andrews on the stage powerbombing him through the commentary table before taunting the fans. Evil Jesus is back.

Just over 6 minutes into the match Chuck Mambo and Earl Black Jr were in the ring battling it out when Mambo went for a handstand into a senton onto Black Jr and it went terribly wrong landing on his arm injuring him, he quickly rolled out the ring with Darrell Allen tagging himself in and destroying Mambo pinning him, the match clearly went short of what it was planned.

It was the Bastard versus the Bearer of Bad News as Dave Mastiff met Stu Bennett in a first time matchup that didn’t disappoint. A hard hitting fast sprint that ended with Mastiff dropping Bennett on his head with a Piledriver in 9 minutes.

Zack Gibson was unable to beat former TNA World Champ Nick Aldis after several attempts of trying to lock in the Shankly Gates Submission which were blocked everytime and the Scouser just didn’t seem to have a backup plan which cost him when Aldis him a DDT for the win in 13:11.

The Origin’s Noam Dar picked up the win over Will Ospreay in a great match that went just over 19 minutes. Will Ospreay played the bad guy in the match for the first time in recent memory in a PROGRESS ring choosing to avoid flips and sticking to head locks.

The Tag Team formerly known as the Leaders of the New School picked up the win in their reunion match against Jimmy Havoc and Pete Dunne. Marty Scurll was out in brand new white trunks with matching fur coat and umbrella leaving both teams with matching gear, LDRS in White with Havoc/Dunne in Black.

The match started slowly with Dunne and Havoc targeting Marty Scurll’s Injured arm the entire match not only keeping it weak to force him to give up but also to stop him from being able to lock in his Crossface Chicken Wing in which they were successful with Scurll attempting it several times on both men but he just didn’t have the strength required. Zack Sabre Jr on the other hand certainly did and in just over 20 minutes he caught Pete Dunne in a Fujiwara Armbar in the center of the ring leaving him no choice but to tap out with Havoc and Scurll brawling on the outside completely oblivious to what was happening in the ring continuing after the ring bell had gone to signal the end of the match until they were eventually torn apart by Security with both men screaming several naughty words that shall not be repeated.

Havoc was forced backstage by security with Dunne following leaving the victorious Scurll and Sabre Jr alone in the middle of the ring. Sabre Jr reached out his hand for a handshake however initially Scurll walked away ignoring him until he was pulled back and ZSJ placed Scurll’s hand into his forcing him to shake his hand. Scurll gave a little smirk then walked away holding his PROGRESS Title.

Always seem to miss the predictions but ah well, great show man! Lots of things set up with this. Could see Havoc/Dunne similar to how we saw Havoc/Robinson at 21. ZSJ/Scurll seeds were planted. The surprise of the night had to be TK Cooper though, but a good surprise. A shame about Earl Black Jr.
