The show starts as usual with Co-owner and ring announcer Jim Smallman welcoming the crowd however on this occasion he was interrupted early by the music of Zack Gibson.

GIMME THAT MIC JIM. I AM LIVERPEWL’S NUMBER ONE ZACK GIBSON, SOON TO BE RECOGNISED AS PROGRESS WRESTLING’S NUMBER ONE, SOON TO BE RECOGNISED AS THE UK’S NUMBER ONE AND SOON TO BE RECOGNISED AS THE WERLD’S NUMBER ONE. UP NEXT FOR ME IS THIS AMERICAN AND WHAT A SURPRISE HE’S OVERWEIGHT JUST LIKE THE REST OF THEM. C’MON KASSIUS OHNO TRY YOUR LUCK WITH LIVERPOOL’S NUMBER ONE. I WILL DROP YOU ON THE DECK, WRAP YOUR ARM AROUND YOUR HEAD, LOCK THE SHANKLY GATES AND YOU WILL TAP OUT TO LIVERPOOL’S NUMBER ONE, ZACK GIBSON.

Chris Hero came out and rather than circling the ring bumping elbows with the fans in the front row he slid into the ring and began trading forearms and elbows with Gibson. The two had a great match with ultimately Gibson coming out on top forcing Hero to tap out in the Shankly Gates in 11 minutes.

Katsuyori Shibata and Daisuke Sekimoto met in what was surprisingly a first time matchup with their paths never crossing before in Japan and it certainly lived up to the hype as they beat the hell out of each other with Sekimoto securing a place in the semi-finals with a Steiner Screwdriver in 14 minutes.

In yet another great match, Mark Haskins brought a throwback of sorts to the Haskins of old bringing out some high flying to counter Ricochet mixing it in with his usual arsenal of mat based work and it was a submission that helped him get the victory as Ricochet tapped out to a Bridging Fujiwara Armbar in 12 minutes.

In the final first round match Tyler Bate sent Dragon Gate Star Akira Tozawa home unhappy after yet another upset win in 7 minutes after reversing a superplex in mid-air landing on top of Tozawa getting the shock victory to move on to face Mark Haskins.

The first match back from the first of two breaks in the show saw Axel Dieter Jr and Da Mack make their PROGRESS debut against The Swords of Essex and picking up what some would consider a surprise win with Dieter Jr forcing Robinson to tap out to the Lotus Lock.

Daisuke Sekimoto was first out but before he could get down from the entrance way to make his way towards the ring he was jumped from behind by a rather sweaty Zack Gibson in his Liverpool Tribute shirt. Gibson threw Sekimoto down the stairs that connect the entrance and the ringside area before attempting to take his shirt off but getting it stuck with the sweat to the delight of the crowd who continued to mock him for it all match long. After 13 minutes though Gibson was caught being a little too distracted arguing with the crowd while he thought Sekimoto was down however he threw Liverpool’s Number One across the ring coast to coast before pinning him to advance to the final.

Post-match Sekimoto had gone to the back and Gibson was lay face down on his stomach in the middle of the canvas trying to hide the bitter tears of disappointment from the crowd. He signalled across to Jim Smallman to roll him a mic without revealing his face. He began mumbling into the mic after lifting his head slightly.

I am Liverpool’s number one and next year is my year. He jumped to his feet with anger in his eyes. I WILL BECOME PROGRESS CHAMPION AND YOU WILL RESPECT ME. YOU SOUTHERN IDIOTS COST ME THAT TITLE AND SOONER RATHER THAN LATER YOU WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO WORSHIP ME AS YOUR WORLD CHAMPION.

Tyler Bate’s unlikely run faced yet another huge challenge in Mark Haskins. Evil Jesus did his best giving Tyler all he’s got and just after the 10 minutes mark Haskins managed to lock in his Bridging Fujiwara Armbar that’s finished so many opponents in the past but Bate somehow managed to muscle his way out of it rolling him up with a handful of tights.

The ‘Main Event’ of the Second part of the show saw the team of Drew Gulak and Tommy End face off with one half of the current tag team champions, Rampage Brown, and Sha Samuels.

Sha came out with his PROGRESS World Title Belt for the last time before it’ll be awarded to the winner of Tyler Bate vs Daisuke Sekimoto later on and was reluctant to give it up to Jim Smallman before the match started however he then proceeded to take that aggression out on Drew Gulak while Rampage partnered off with Tommy End and the four put on a treat for the fans having a great match with Rampage Brown hitting a spear on Drew Gulak to pin the Strong Style Champion in just over 16 minutes.

The man to answer Zack Sabre Jr’s challenge was obviously going to be a man subspecialty absent from the card, his tag team partner in the Leaders of the New School, The Villain Marty Scurll.

Sabre Jr and Scurll have had many classic matches both teaming together and against one another but this may have been the very pinnacle putting on a true Match of the Year Contender in front of an emotional but rowdy crowd. The finish came when Scurll hit a tombstone dropping Sabre Jr on his head before heading to the corner to tune up the band for a little Sweet Chin Music muttering the words I’m Sorry, I love you. to his friend hitting a Superkick to the knee while Zack blocked his face before going for the Crossface Chicken Wing leaving Zack tapping out.

The final saw the Fairytale story of Tyler Bate up against bonafide badass, the beast from the east, Daisuke Sekimoto. In a short but sweet match the unlikely story came true when Tyler Bate proved that he is a freak of nature managing to pick up Sekimoto for a deadlift brainbuster in 9 minutes to the shock of everyone in attendance to become the new PROGRESS World Champion.

In a short, hard hitting affair Sha Samuels defeated one half of Moustache Mountain Trent Seven. In 7 minutes both men got in a good amount of offence but a piledriver from Sha kept Trent down for the pinfall victory.

Post-match he continued attacking Sha before requesting a microphone. He put one foot on top of the head of the fallen Trent.

TK Cooper’s entrance seemed strange as he came out alone without Dahlia Black however the commentary team noted that they saw Dahlia backstage before the show so they must have some sort of plan. They had what was going as a great match with TK showing a nicer side to himself compared to his usual cocky self but that didn’t last. Ospreay seemed destined for victory setting up for a high risk maneuver from the top rope until a mysterious figure ran through the crowd and pushed him off into the ring allowing TK Cooper to hit the knockout punch for the victory.

Dahlia Black ran through the entrance curtain as the winning pinfall was being counted to make love with her partner as a “Well done on the victory, good on ya lad” however the person that had helped him was slumped in the corner of the ring with his face still covered until TK signalled for him to stand up. He revealed himself to be fellow New Zealander Travis Banks. The three had been causing havoc all over the UK together and it seems Travis has finally joined the South Pacific Power Couple in PROGRESS. Travis took to the mic…

Hello PROGRESS, we’ve been destined to meet for a long time now and trust me, when you all see the one last surprise we have you will have no doubt that the South Pacific Power Team are not only the future of PROGRESS but the present.

Marty Scurll’s open challenge was answered by a man who has been turning heads all over the UK, making his PROGRESS debut, Chris Ridgeway.

The Villain played it cool early on almost underestimating the skills of Ridgeway who took control and dominated until a Crossface Chicken Wing almost out of nowhere after 14 minutes gave Ridgeway no choice but to tap out.

Post-match Ridgeway received Please Come Back chants from the crowd who were justifiably impressed at the young man who pointed and tapped the PROGRESS Logo in the centre of the ring.

One half of the Tag Team Champions, Rampage Brown, unsuccessfully challenged for Drew Gulak’s Strong Style Belt in a great brawl spending the majority of the match on the outside of the ring with Gulak working on Rampage’s right shoulder and it paid off when Rampage tapped out to an Armbar in 12 minutes.

Mark Haskins came out to the ring with backup in former champion Sha Samuels while Tyler Bate was all alone after Trent Seven was unable to help his tag partner and friend following the vicious attack earlier in the show by the East End Butcher.

Haskins kept control early on with referee Chris Roberts constantly falling for the dirty tricks of Sha Samuels on the outside to the anger of the crowd for around 4 minutes until finally Chris Roberts snapped and sent Sha to the back citing that the crowd deserved a fair one on one contest, Haskins was distracted by this as Sha shouted instructions to him while being escorted to out by ringside security. This allowed Bate to get a rollup on Haskins from behind for a 2.9 count that fooled the entire building into thinking he had retained but it was not to be just yet.

They went back and forth for around 15 more minutes going hold for hold on the ground with counter after counter after counter until Tyler Bate reversed a Bridging Fujiwara Armbar with a Crossface to retain the title in just under 20 minutes. He had proved to not only the crowd but to himself that his feat at Super Strong Style 16 was not a fluke and he truly was a Main Event player.
