WCW: Heart and Soul

Recommended Posts

Well I totally crapped out on that one! Though now maybe Matt goes for the retribution, takes out Dustin, and then Jeff turns out of jealousy. Possibly joining up with Mitchell! Anyway great to read one of your shows again TFC, you make work so much easier. And give me something to look forward to on some of my dark days.

If Fergal Devitt is outranking Bryan Danielson while working outside of WCW imagine what he would be ranking working for WCW....

Its also crazy to me that WWE has Brock Lesnar and he isn't cracking the top 100....What are they doing with him????

How does Debra keep winning this award in a world where Paul Heyman exists and is active as a manager?

I think Jerry The King Lawler tossed out the rest of the votes excluding his on that one....

He still has one area that can be dramatically improved, so he'll probably stay down there at least until that's no longer the case. Not much to say about the Dragons. ROH is an unremarkable Small level company, currently ranked 25th in the world. Just about everyone who was big in establishing early ROH in reality is unavailable to them, so they've had to build around the Maximo brothers (Joel was their second champ, and then he lost it to Jose.) TNA is at #10, but they did have some modest growth in 2003. They've been putting on better shows once Mantaur lost the title, so they might have a good 2004.

Well I totally crapped out on that one! He went 17-9 in 2003, which is a lot better than his 5-6 record in 2002. He's probably the best case for this guest booker concept being a good idea. He was doing nothing after being called up, but the guest bookers would usually do something to feature him that would give his popularity a nice little boost. Thanks to that he's now at the point where the AI books him to win more often than lose, so he saw his pop go up slightly over the last few months of 2003, which were exclusively AI booked. With their help he may eventually become an actual main eventer there.

He ranked #120, which was a big jump up from 2002. He works almost exclusively with other midcard guys like Saturn, Scotty Too Hotty, Albert, etc, which means his matches usually top out in the low 80s. He pulled a 93 with Kurt Angle in his one big PPV match, and that's with only C rated popularity, so he should be a force if he really gets over.

I think Jerry The King Lawler tossed out the rest of the votes excluding his on that one....

http://i.imgur.com/HkwkTiP.jpg

Sounds legit.

Congrats for one of the best dynasties I've ever read.

Thank you very much!

Hello, wanted to say that I really enjoy this diary, started reading it about 1/2 months ago, finally got up-to-date, and gotta say, the worldbuilding seems really inspired and I love how you do this thing where you describe the usual in-game incidents, taking "artistic liberty" to expand what was going on with Bret's first person perspective, really makes this an unique experience and makes this universe you've created very believable. Looking forward to what you have up your sleeve for 2004.

Not sure if all of the UFS players have checked their PMs, but the thread has been open for a couple of days and the draft is in progress. Here is the link.

Glad you've enjoyed it! I try to make the game world as interesting as possible, as much for my own sake as anything else.

Can't quote properly since I'm on my phone. But yeah to say the least, you have provides a distraction when things regarding gender switching gets to much. And it means a lot, which is weird to say to someone I've only talked to enough to convince them that giving the belt to Million Dollar Man was the best choice!

Congratulations, franticloser! hope you're feeling much better now!

as for the national battles, it's still as tight as ever! though one thing i'd like to see in TEW2020 is that I don't think foreign companies should have an impact in the Japan national battles. cause, frankly, IRL, I don't think Japanese wrestling fans really gives a damn about any foreign companies. Mexicans and british might care about WWE, maybe, but not Japan.

With both Daffney and LuFisto vanquished, that left one member of The Darkness for Toyota to contend with: Grand Prix winner Akira Hokuto.

December 13th:

Toyota and Hokuto stood face to face in the ring at the end of the show, but they fought with words rather than fists. Akira complimented the champion on making it through both Daffney and LuFisto, but reminded her that she still had one final task if she hoped to shed light on the darkness. Manami said she couldn't wait; she'd taken Akira up on her challenge and defeated both of her underlings, but Hokuto was the opponent she'd been waiting for the whole time. All that was left was the showdown between the reigning champion of the world and the winner of the 2003 Grand Prix. and that match would be taking place on January 11th at the next Renaissance PPV, Dream Slam. Both women were eager to get there, and confident in their chances of walking out with their hand raised and the championship in their possession.

December 20th:

We announced a six woman tag where Manami would be joined by Alexis Laree and Allison Corino to take on all three members of The Darkness next week. This was going to mark the first time Manami and Akira competed against each other in any form since Bash at the Beach 2002, and would also be their one and only time as opponents before Dream Slam.

December 27th:

While there was some physicality between the two stars during the six woman tag, it never went on too long or gave away too much. Their shared time in the ring was meant as an appetizer, a glimpse of what was to come when they met with the title on the line at Dream Slam. It was The Darkness who won this match and Hokuto who secured the win, but the real battle for these two was still to come.

January 10th:

Champion and challenger met in the ring for a final verbal confrontation to close out the go home show. Hokuto promised that Toyota was about to learn the same thing that the entire field of the Grand Prix tournament learned the hard way: The Darkness had arrived, and there was no stopping it. Akira struggled slightly with her delivery here, but Manami was tremendous at giving a fiery babyface response that elicited a strong reaction from the crowd. She acknowledged Hokuto's skill, said she didn't win the Grand Prix by accident and she was perhaps the strongest challenger Manami would have to face since she won the title fifteen months earlier. But Akira needed to remember something: this was HER toughest battle, too. The competition in the Grand Prix may have been stiff--but Manami hadn't been involved in that tournament because for over a year, no one had been able to beat her. If Renaissance was truly going to be covered in darkness, first Akira would have to do what no one else had been able to.

This was a killer promo and I have high hopes for the match as well, but for some the behind the scenes aspect of this match is equally interesting. Manami has not made a decision as of yet on whether she'll re-sign with us or jump to WWE, so the dirt sheet subscribers and internet users will try and read a lot into the result.

Our Generation, Our Time

December 6th:

After Devil Kong completed a quick squash match, Our Generation stepped out and promised that the champions had not seen the last of them.

December 13th:

It was officially announced that WCW matchmakers agreed with Our Generation's argument and were giving them a rematch for the titles at Dream Slam. Devil Kong called the decision laughable given that they'd just retained their titles against the same team mere weeks earlier (never mentioning that they'd only done so by using one of their belts as a weapon.)

December 20th:

Melissa and Devil wrestled one on one in the main event, and Melissa got the pin on the veteran champion with a German suplex. Our Generation were all smiles as they celebrated in the ring after the match, but the champions were enraged. After having to cheat to retain their titles against them, now Devil had been pinned. Joey Styles bellowed that we might be seeing the end of Devil Kong's reign of terror.

December 27th:

The show opened with footage from a recent Renaissance house show, where Devil Kong ambushed Our Generation in the ring moments after they'd finished a match. Devil rendered Nattie unconscious with the sleeper and Aja knocked Melissa out with her Uraken backfist, and then the champions posed with their gold.

January 10th:

Our Generation had a tune-up match at the start of the show, after which Devil Kong taunted them in the aisle. They said Nattie and Melissa didn't deserve this rematch after failing the first time, and said the match at Dream Slam would go the same way that first match had. Just like they did at that house show, they were going to leave Our Generation battered and bruised while they celebrated with their belts. Melissa handled the response for the challengers, saying that no matter how Devil Kong tried to throw their weight around or how many times they got the upper hand by any means necessary, Our Generation was not going to back down. Since Toshiyo was so obsessed with protecting her spot and preventing younger women like Meiko from ascending, why didn't she stop it herself in the ring, this time without intentionally getting herself disqualified when she felt the tide turning against her? Yamada answered the challenge with a nod and a glare, and we had another match for Dream Slam.

December 27th:

Toshiyo jumped Satomura in the back as she was being interviewed for WCW.com, but Chigusa Nagayo arrived on the scene to aid her occasional partner. That attracted Wesna Busic to the party, and we had a full-fledged brawl on our hands.

January 10th:

Building off of the brawl on the previous show, Satomura teamed with Nagayo against Yamada and Busic in the main event. It was truly a main event caliber match, one which saw plenty of interaction between Meiko and Toshiyo. There was no firm resolution between those two though, as it was Chigusa who got the pin for her team by finishing Yamada.

Picking Your Spot

December 6th:

Wesna Busic said that despite what anyone might think, she was perfectly capable of destroying Chigusa Nagayo in a head-on fight--and she was going to prove it in a one on one match next week.

December 13th:

Busic did indeed prove she was a threat to Nagayo in their match, but she seemed more worried with delivering punishment in the form of hard strikes than she was with actually trying to win the match. This cost her when the 23-year veteran took advantage of an opening and rolled her up to snatch the victory. Wesna would have the last laugh though, as she connected with more strikes after the bell and ensured that Chigusa had to be helped to the back.

December 20th:

Wesna gloated about her attack, remarking that Chigusa might have technically won the match, but she was the only one who'd left under her own power. Highlights from the beating drove the point home.

December 27th:

Chigusa called Busic to the ring, and while admitting she took quite a beating two weeks ago, she reminded everyone that it was her, not Wesna, who got her hand raised. But she'd heard Wesna celebrating her little attack last week, and it made her sick. She wasn't going to let it end there: she wanted a rematch with Busic. Wesna agreed, saying it would be a pleasure to beat up "the old woman" one more time, and another match for Dream Slam became official.

January 10th:

Wesna got her shots in on Chigusa during the main event tag match, but thanks to being cut off from making the save by Satomura, she could only watch on as Nagayo got the pin on her partner.

Not Impressed

December 6th:

Alexis Laree sat in on color commentary for Etsuko Mita's match. A tornado DDT spelled victory for Laree, but Mita got on the mic afterwards and angrily told Alexis that her run of good fortune against them wouldn't last for long.

December 20th:

Alexis and Allison stood by Manami Toyota's side in a backstage promo for next week's main event against The Darkness, and they promised to pull their own weight and not drag the world champion down. It was their outside interference that was a key factor in Hokuto finishing off Corino to win the match for The Darkness. During the match we formally announced that Laree and Corino would meet Mita and Ito in a tag match at Dream Slam, so the heels got one over on their PPV opponents here.

January 10th:

It was Corino and Mita meeting this week in a preview of the tag match on Sunday.
