Board's Monday Night Wars:</p><p>

Last week I asked which show you would have been watching in this little Monday Night Wars of mine mainly out of curiosity.....and it was surprisingly close.....six to Raw, five to Nitro, one draw..........and one vote for Britains Got Talent (I'm looking at you Nobby)......so while Raw is currently miles away in the ratings (and probably nearing an 80odd week win streak) and game wise it's not going to be a real rating war for some time, why don't we have a Board Monday Night War........soooooooooo, what were you watching this week? <strong>Invader Zim</strong></p>

<strong>WWF Championship Match</strong></p><p>

<strong> Ahmed Johnson ©</strong> vs. Psycho Sid</p><p>

Comments: Johnson retains, anyway. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Nash's #1 Contender Shot vs. An Intercontinental Title Shot at IYH;</strong></p><p><strong>

The Man Who Wins The Match Win's The Prize</strong></p><p>

The Wolfpac (Nash, Hall, Waltman) vs. The Hart Foundation & Chris Jericho</p><p>

Comments: Schmozz.</p><p> </p><p>

Scott Steiner vs. <strong>Brian Pillman</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong>Comments: Goldust distraction, Pillman wins - maybe by Steiner walking out?</p><p> </p><p>

The Headbangers vs. <strong>The Dogs of War</strong></p><p>

Comments: Your tag division really isn't anything to write home about, huh?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong> Jake Roberts</strong> vs. Rich Steiner</p><p>

Comments: I'm not sure Steiner's even high enough on the ladder to benefit from a distraction/interference assist</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>WWF European Title Match</strong></p><p>

<strong> Matt Hardy ©</strong> vs. Jerry Lynn</p><p>

Comments: I like Jerry Lynn a lot, but Hardy's got momentum and he's not going to drop it after 8 days.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Preview for WCW Monday Nitro, Week 4, August 1997</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Curt Hennig, Dallas Page & Chris Benoit vs. Hollywood Hogan, Randy Savage & The Warrior</p><p>

Comments: Schmozz.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong> The Giant</strong> vs. Ray Traylor</p><p>

Comments: *Cue comments about reinforcing the ring* *Ignore how those comments won't be made about the main event, which involves a lot more weight*</p><p> </p><p>

Tajiri vs. <strong>Alex Wright</strong></p><p>

Comments: You didn't provide a comments section for this, so I'll throw up the suggestion that Tajiri would make a decent undercard loser.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong> Bill Goldberg</strong> vs. Kaz Hayashi</p><p>

Comments: So does Kaz.</p><p> </p><p>

The Warlord vs. Scott Norton</p><p>

Comments: Hoss, hoss, hoss... I have no idea who's better, more valuable, or why anyone would care... Is Northon one of the guys Missy's touting for?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>WCW Television Title Match</strong></p><p>

Lord Steven Regal © vs. <strong>Jeff Hardy</strong></p><p>

Comments: Hmmm... You suggested Hardy has gold in his future, and even if this is a little too soon, the TV title is the traditional jumping on point in WCW. Figure this for the start of a feud, as the belt's on the line.</p><p> </p><p>

The Soul Train vs. <strong>The Amazing French Canadians</strong></p><p>

Comment: I figure TAFC need the momentum boost, but it seems most likely to lead to a segment with Goldberg somehow.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

show......Kevin Nash and Bret Hart battling it out to become the number one contender to Ahmed Johnson’s newly won WWF Championship.....Big Sexy’s DQ victory, along with the Canadian style beating that followed it from the Hart Foundation, Chris Jericho and Test......Steve Austin’s arrival to raise hell.....and the biggest surprise of all, Vince McMahon’s offer to Stone Cold.....to become THE man....THE Champion......the Corporate Champion......and as the sound bite reminds us, Austin has just seven days to make that decision, and his time is up......tonight.......</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="qV2yDWP.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qV2yDWP.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="UpnPfKu.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/UpnPfKu.jpg" he’s not alone.....his personal problem solver Kane is with him.....the Corporate Cannon Brian Pillman.....The Enforcer Arn Anderson.....and The Nature Boy himself, Ric Flair......quite the show of star power here from our esteemed chairman.....and with the exception of Kane, the ring is filled with about $100,000 worth of custom, fitted suits.....even Arn has ditched his usual denim and dressed up for the occasion.....</p><p> </p><p> ......McMahon takes the microphone and welcomes everyone to the show, telling them that he knows why they’re all here tonight.....he knows who they’re all here to see......they’re here to see the ratings draw.....they’re here to see the merchandise seller......they’re here to see......</p><p> </p><p> <em>”......the NEW and IMPROVED.....Stone Cold Steve Austin.......”</em></p><p> </p><p> ......the crowd does indeed pop for that....although the “new and improved” prospect clearly doesn’t sound quite so appealing to them.....they’re pretty happy with the Rattlesnake they already have......none the less McMahon continues.....he tells the crowd that UNFORTUNATELY, Steve Austin hasn’t arrived yet....which is fine, he’s got a big decision to make....and McMahon knows that NOBODY is going to touch that dial until they see the Corporate Rattlesnake make his way out to the ring.....which is why he is giving Austin until the end of the night to make his decision......</p><p> </p><p> <em>”.....although really, that decision should be easy.......Mr. Austin wants Title opportunities.....I can give Mr. Austin Title opportunities.....with a click of my fingers, I can make all Steve Austin’s dreams come true......once we make a few minor adjustments.......</em></p><p> </p><p> .....McMahon says that he made the World Wrestling Federation into a global phenomenon....the number one Wrestling organisation in the world....so much so that the WWF is the hottest ticket in town.....the place to be seen.....the place where greatness is, which is why McMahon only surrounds himself with greatness......greatness like Kane, the man who defeated his own brother, the Undertaker at Wrestlemania XIII....men like Arn Anderson.....men like Brian Pillman.....men like twelve time Worlds Champion Ric Flair.....men who know that it pays to tow the Corporate line, and men that will be standing there shoulder to shoulder with Austin, once he makes the ONLY decision that matters......</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> ......before the boss can continue however he is rather rudely interrupted by the arrival of the WWF Champion Ahmed Johnson, along with his manager Jim Cornette......the pair stride confidently down the aisle and climb right into the ring.....but then when you've got a literal who's who of victories under your belt, AND the WWF Title around your waist, you're going to be confident.....and as for Jim Cornette, when you have Ahmed Johnson at your side, you're definitely going to be confident.....</p><p> </p><p> .....Cornette tells McMahon that all this talk is well and good, but Ahmed Johnson has been the WWF Champion for over a week now, and despite the fact that people are apparently lining up to face him, he's yet to see action.....he really doesn't care who he faces.....Bret Hart, Kevin Nash....Brian Pillman....Ric Flair.....hell, it can be Stone Cold Steve Austin for Luckily Pillman was there to carry the load, putting in a solid A* performance himself.....that being said, this isn't the first great match these two men have had, the two men had another barnburner a few months back at In Your House. On that night Scott Steiner was the better man, but the match wasn't without interference.....funnily enough at the hands Brian Pillman may find himself sharing the spotlight with later on (should he accept Vince McMahon's offer) Stone Cold Steve Austin....</p><p> </p><p> .....Steiner is a bad man in a bad mood, and he’s got gold on his mind.....no, not Ahmed Johnson and the WWF Title, we’re talking about the Bizarre One, Goldust, the man who cost Steiner that prize.....and Big Poppa Pump is more than happy to take his frustrations out on the Corporate Cannon here tonight, while Pillman is more than happy to focus on the bad neck of Steiner, and he spent a good portion of the match working on that particular body part.....in the end though, Steiner’s rage helped him fight through the pain, and after nailing Pillman with a stiff Steinerline, he locked in the Steiner Recliner right in the middle of the ring, leaving Pillman with no choice but to concede the match.......</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img Goldust still clad in Big Poppa Pumps chainmail and clutching Scotty’s good pipe, he nails Steiner right in the back of that injured neck with the lead weapon......leaving the official little option but to call for the bell.....</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner:</strong> Scott Steiner (via disqualification)</p><p> <strong>Rating:</strong> A</p><p> </p><p> lead pipe.....Marcus joins in with some stomps for good measure.....and as soon as Pillman has made his recovery, HE joins in on the fun too, because after all, Brian Pillman has never turned down an opportunity to kick a man when he’s down.....</p><p> </p><p> ......Steiner was already hurt....and that was before he took a beating from a lead pipe....now he’s down and in serious trouble....not as serious trouble as he’s going to be in if Brian Pillman has his way though.....because the Corporate Cannon is headed to the outside for a steel chair, and we all know how dangerous a weapon a chair can be in Pillman’s hands......</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img comes running out from the locker rooms, crashing into the back of the chair wielding Pillman with a running knee that sends the Corporate Cannon crashing into the ring-post.....</p><p> </p><p> ......the steel chair flys from Pillman’s hands and the Dude quickly grabs it, swinging wildly at his retreating foe.....Pillman is able to narrowly duck the attack however, leaving the chair to strike nothing but ring-post, before making a hasty retreat up the aisle, stumbling to safety as he goes......</p><p> </p><p> ......that leaves Goldust and Marcus in the ring, two men that the Dude’s alter ego Cactus Jack had more than a few problems with recently....and since the Dude has a chair....and the Corporate Cannon has the Dude all fired up....why not take some of those frustrations out on the Bizarre Duo?....</p><p> </p><p> ......to be fair, Goldust and Marcus obviously realise that the Dude is not someone to mess with right now, and since Scott Steiner was their designated target, and Scott Steiner is currently laid face first on the mat, they decide it may be wiser to retreat to the back, making a beeline up the aisle as Dude Love checks on Big Poppa Pump, and we go to The Match Win's The Prize</strong></p><p> </p><p> This next match comes off the back of Kevin Nash’s disqualification victory over Bret Hart, that gave Big Sexy (for now) the number one contender spot for Ahmed Johnson’s WWF Title.....as usual Bret Hart did not take defeat kindly, claiming that he was only seconds away from victory when the official unfairly disqualified him, costing him the match.....(he wasn’t....he was flat on his back after a Jacknife Powerbomb and one count away from being defeated, but what sort of heel lets the truth get in the way of a good complaint).....</p><p> </p><p> ......Jim Ross informs us that on Superstars, the Hitman demanded another shot at Kevin Nash and the #1 Contenders spot....Nash agreed, under the condition that it was a six man tag, and a shot at Owen Harts Intercontinental Title was also on the line.....the Harts agreed, and so here we are......</p><p> </p><p> .......if you tuned into Raw this week instead of Nitro, you were treated to two back to back near five star matches....because much like our previous match, this one was also excellent, with Jim Ross proclaiming that you won’t see action like this over on the other station (Spoiler alert: He’s right too.....although Nitro’s main event came pretty close).....</p><p> </p><p> .....there’s a lot of bad blood in this match, although interestingly enough, mainly on the part of the Harts.....Bret and Owen have a vendetta against the Wolfpac dating back almost two years, while in Scott Halls own words, he, Nash and Waltman could really care less about the Hart Foundation, everything they did was simply business....</p><p> </p><p> ......Chris Jericho has really found his niche since joining up with the Harts, not only that but he’s really moved up in the pecking order as well (not to mention the rub that young Test is receiving as his bodyguard) and he really shines in this one, putting on a performance that is only really topped by (as usual) Bret Hart.....he sells fantastically for the Wolfpac too, bouncing all over the ring like a bump machine and making the faces look super strong.....</p><p> </p><p> .....when the time comes to return the favour it’s Sean Waltman playing the face in peril, a role that he fills perfectly being the smallest man in the match, and while Jericho was a bump machine, Waltman is a selling machine, screaming out in pain as all three of the Canadians dismantle him in an effort to soften him up for any of their respective submission finishing moves.....</p><p> </p><p> .....the match breaks down as they tend to do, and all hell breaks loose as these six men go at it.....but the finish of the match comes out of nowhere, Owen Hart attempts a Victory Roll on Waltman, who drops to the ground in reversal midway through, pinning Hart to the mat for a quick one, two, three.....and rather reminiscent of the way Owen pinned Bret during their Wrestlemania X classic, not only has Waltman just won himself an Intercontinental Title shot, he beat the Intercontinental Champion himself to do it.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner(s):</strong> The Wolfpac</p><p> <strong>Rating:</strong> A</p><p> </p><p> He pats the hyena like Pillman on the back, quoting Pink Floyd <em>”Shine on, you Crazy Diamond”</em>......Flair says that while he’s never been in the ring with “Stone Cold”, he has most certainly been in the ring with Steve Austin, and just like Vince McMahon said, Steve Austin is a true diamond in the rough, and Ric Flair should know, after all, diamonds are forever.....</p><p> </p><p> <em>”......and so is Ric Flair......”</em></p><p> </p><p> ......both Arn and Brian take the microphone next, imploring Austin to make the right decision, with Pillman stating that there are no hard feelings, when Brian did what he did to Steve he was just following his natural order....the chaotic neutral that is his life....it was nothing personal....while Arn says that he and Flair have surrounded themselves with greatness their whole careers.....they’ve took nobodies and made them stars, they’ve took stars and made them legends, and tonight, Steve Austin could be on the road to superstardom.....</p><p> </p><p> <em>”......if you just make the right decision.....the smart decision......”</em></p><p> </p><p> ......with his combined group continue to make the case for Austin, a young ring worker comes running down the aisle to grab the attention of Mr. McMahon, whispering something in his ear that makes the owner break out into a huge smile....he takes the microphone and tells everyone to quieten down, because the reason they are all here tonight is ready to make his grand entrance......</p><p> </p><p> <em>”.......ladies and gentlemen I give to you......Ston........I give to you....Steve Austin......”</em></p><p> </p><p> ......the glass shatters and the crowd erupts in anticipation of the arrival of the number one face in the WWF.......although their cheers Stone Cold everybody knows and loves......he doesn’t look like Stone Cold, he doesn’t walk like Stone Cold.....and as he climbs into the ring, he certainly doesn’t have the mannerisms of Stone Cold, because he doesn’t mount the turnbuckles to salute the crowd, and there are certainly no middle fingers to be seen......</p><p> </p><p> .....Rick Rude is delighted at this “new” Steve Austin, saying he and Steve go way back and this is quite the sight to see.....Jim Ross agrees that it’s a sight alright.....a sickening one.....</p><p> </p><p> ......Austin comes to a stop to take in his surroundings, before walking over to Fair and Anderson and shaking each man by the hand....he bypasses Kane (Monsters don’t shake hands) and comes to a halt in front of Brian Pillman, who sticks his hand out with a huge sh!t eating grin on his face.....Austin pauses, looking down at the peace offering, before looking up again at his former partner with a fire in his eyes, until he finally breaks out into a big smile too, and the former Hollywood Blondes reunite with a handshake and a big manly hug......</p><p> </p><p> ......Austin then turns to face the final man in the ring, Vince McMahon, who is stood there looking delighted as he also offers his hand to Austin with a smug smirk on his face.....instead of taking his hand however, Austin takes the microphone from his other hand......</p><p> </p><p> <em>”......first things first McMahon.....if we’re gonna do this, then we’re gonna do it like men......and no disrespect to these gentlemen here, but if Stone Co......but if heads to the back, leaving Austin and McMahon alone in the ring.....</p><p> </p><p> .......McMahon again offers Austin his hand, telling him that he’s made the right decision, and judging by his very nice suit, this transition should go smoother than Vince imagined it would......</p><p> </p><p> <em>”......I honestly thought we’d have more of a fight on our hands to get you out of those redneck clothes, and yet here you are, looking every bit the Corporate Champion in the making......now all you have to do is shake my hand, and we can make the match official.......Ground Zero: In Your House.....Ahmed Johnson vs. Steve Austin.....for the World Wrestling Federation Championship.....”</em></p><p> </p><p> .......Austin does indeed take McMahon’s hand in his.....much to the dismay of these Philly fans, who answer that with a resounding round of boo’s.......McMahon tells them to shut up.....before thanking Austin for making the right decision......still holding onto Vince’s hand, Austin shakes his head, telling Vince no.....thank you.......</p><p> </p><p> <em>”.......for being the stupidest son of a b!tch in this building......”</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> .......with that McMahons eyes bulge as Austin pulls him in close.....kicks him in the gut.......</p><p> </p><p> .......and drops him with the Stone Cold Stunner........</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> .......and now the place absolutely erupts, as Austin tears off his jacket and throws it on top of McMahon, telling him that Stone Cold Steve Austin don’t bow down to nobody, before flipping McMahon the double bird and dropping down to the mat to scream abuse straight in Vince’s unconscious face....</p><p> </p><p> .......he pulls off the Gucci shoes and whacks McMahon in the back of the head with them, before tearing the sleeves off his shirt, shoving one of them into the mouth of the boss........</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> .........Pillman, Flair, Anderson and Kane come running out of the back and down the aisle to McMahons rescue, but Austin flips all four of the men off, before quickly bailing from the ring and into the crowd, where the Philly Faithful swarm him.......</p><p> </p><p> ......he’s still got the microphone with him, and as Flair tends to Vince he tells them that when McMahon wakes up,</p><p> </p><p> <em>”......you can tell him that the ass-whopping he just took was courtesy of Stone Cold Steve Austin....and he shoulda had more sense than to trust a Rattlesnake to begin with.....Stone Cold Steve Austin ain’t for sale......Stone Cold club, Vince McMahon, you can kiss my ass, and that’s the bottom line......because STONE COLD said so......”</em></p><p> </p><p> .......with that Austin tosses down the microphone, before raising his arms in celebration amongst this rowdy crowd.....while Vince McMahon slowly sits up with a look of fury on his face, and the show closes to the sound of Jim Ross telling us that.....</p><p> </p><p> Championship opportunity in his short tenure for World Championship Wrestling, his first being a loosing effort against reigning United States Champion Eddie Guerrero....some may say that competing for the US Title at this relatively young stage of his career was maybe a step to far for Hardy, although while the Television Championship could certainly be considered a step below the US Title (and perhaps a more appropriate Title for a young up and comer like Jeff) you could hardly accuse the current Champion, Lord Steven Regal of being a step below United States Champion Guerrero....because his Lordship is far from a pushover.....</p><p> </p><p> .....that being said, this was certainly a closely fought contest between two men who's styles couldn't be more contradicting....the high flying, high impact offence of Hardy, against the slower paced, mat based ring work of Regal.....although, as Jeff drives the air out of Regal in the corner with a one man Poetry in Motion, before ascending to the top rope in search of that Swanton Bomb, it looks as though it's the high flyer that's going to come out on top.......except looks can be back....and the fact that DDP has the gorgeous Kimberly with him certainly doesn't hurt the crowd reaction, as one by one they climb through the ropes to join Gene in the ring.....</p><p> </p><p> ....Gene thanks the men for coming out, before getting straight to business.....he says that tonight they will be stepping in this ring to face Hollywood Hogan, Randy Savage and The Warrior in six man action....and as we saw earlier this evening, Hollywood Hogan has already dismissed all three of these men as ANY kind of credible threat....and when you take into account that those three men standing across the ring from them tonight in the main event, have a total combined 12 Wold Championship reigns between them, compared to Hennig, Benoit and Page's combined ZERO World Championship reigns, Gene wonders out loud if Hogan's words will knock their confidence at all......</p><p> </p><p> .....Hennig asks Gene if he looks like a man who's EVER lacked confidence a day in his life? He says yeah, sure Hogan has defeated him in the past, but the past is the past....right here in WCW, in one on one competition, it's Curt Hennig one, Hollywood Hogan zero.....</p><p> </p><p> <em>".....see Hogan can preach about beating Curt Hennig, but the fact of the matter is that despite Vince Russo and the Titans of Wrestling's best efforts, Eric Bischoff has ensured that WCW is a level playing field....and in a level playing field, there's no one better in this ring than Curt Hennig.....and in a level playing field, EVERYBODY gets a chance to rise to the top....and people like Chris Benoit, like Diamond Dallas Page....people that Hogan would NEVER have worked with five, ten years ago because he would have point blank refused....they're going to show Hogan....Savage....Warrior.....they're going to show the world that they are deserving of a place at the top table.....Hollywood Hogan may well be considered the biggest icon in professional wrestling, but when you're allowed to handpick your opponents for the best part of twenty years, it's pretty easy to rise to the top....let's see how good he is when his opponents don't fit inside his little comfort zone, because this man right here, Chris Benoit, is certainly NOT a man to be taken lightly....."</em></p><p> </p><p> .....Benoit doesn't say much....he prefers to let his actions in the ring do his talking for him (that and he is terrible on the microphone)....he simply says that he's been here in WCW in one way or another for the best part of four years now....not ONCE has he had a shot at that WCW Championship.....not ONCE has he had a shot at a Hogan....a Savage....a Warrior.....he says he's hit his head on that glass ceiling so many times that he damn near broke his neck....but that's all changing....the Titans of Wrestling may think they run WCW.....they may think that they're unbeatable and unbreakable......well lets see how unbreakable they are, when Chris Benoit traps them in the Crippler Crossface......</p><p> </p><p> ......Page takes the microphone next....asking Gene to take a look at him and tell him what he sees....Gene looks flustered for a moment, telling Page he's not entirely sure of the question....</p><p> </p><p> <em>"......it's not a hard question Gene-O, I'll tell you what you see....you see a 41 year old wrestler, who only laced up those boots full time a few years ago....you see a nightclub owner....a manager....a mouthpiece....a tattooed New Jersey bum.....and that's what Hollywood "Scum" Hogan see's too.....except that's the problem Gene, looks can be deceiving....sure I'm all those things, but I'm so much more.....I'm an anomaly.....what I am Gene, is a man who sees what he wants...works his ass off and chases those dreams.......</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> .....Wrestlemania VI....I know we're not supposed to talk about "the other guys" Gene, but hear me out.....Wrestlemania VI....the Ultimate Showdown......Hollywood Hogan vs. The Warrior....Champion vs. Champion.....Title vs. Title.....do you know what I did at Wrestlemania VI Gene? Hell, I wasn't even a blip on the radar at Wrestlemania VI....I drove the Honky Tonk Man and Greg Valentine to the ring in my very own pink Cadillac....I am the very definition of starting from the bottom, and good god look at me now.....Hogan....Savage....Warrior, Levesque, Traylor, Bagwell....those two new guys.....they're all going to find out the hard way that the cream always rises to the top.....and at War Games, every single one of them is going to feel....the.....BANG!....."</em></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rating:</strong> B+</p><p> </p><p> </p><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43289" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"></div><p> </p><p> <img alt="KNeainM.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/KNeainM.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> VS. <img alt="bGSacqF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/bGSacqF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Had WCW had a Cruiserweight division, then this match right here would have been a prime example of it, as cocky young German Alex Wright goes one on one with another youngster, Japan's own Yoshihiro Tajiri.....and despite the fact that Tajiri is five years senior to Wright (27 to Wrights 22) Alex Wright is actually the veteran of the pair, debuting at the age of just 16, three years before Tajiri's debut in 1994.....</p><p> </p><p> ......Yoshihiro certainly showed flashes of what the WCW executives obviously saw when hiring him during this one, because he more than holds his own against the more established Wright...unfortunately holding your own isn't enough around here, and Wright was finally able to pick up the victory with the (fittingly enough) Bridging German Suplex for the one, two, three.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner:</strong> Alex Wright</p><p> <strong>Rating:</strong> C</p><p> </p><p> </p><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43289" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"></div><p> </p><p> <img alt="mqWl7Ti.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/mqWl7Ti.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="3Hxm3hP.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3Hxm3hP.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="htDE7ZE.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/htDE7ZE.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> It's a busy night for Mean Gene tonight, as he's called to action once more....this time he is backstage with his latest guests, Hawk, Animal, the WCW Tag Team Champions....The Road Warriors.....</p><p> </p><p> .....Gene says that it's safe to say that the Road Warriors are finally finished with the Nasty Boys...but with the arrival of Adam Copeland and Christian Cage, it would seem as though the Titans of Wrestling are FAR from done with Hawk and Animal.....AND those Tag Team Titles they wear around their waist.....</p><p> </p><p> .....Animal screams that's right.....he says they told everyone what they were going to do to the Nasty Boys, and that's exactly what they did....now it's Copeland and Cage? Curt Hennig, Chris Benoit and Diamond Dallas Page, facing Hollywood Hogan, Randy Savage and The Warrior....three men who, as Mean Gene pointed out earlier, have a combined total of twelve separate World Title reigns between them....because of this, this match is arguably the highest profile match of Benoit and Page's WCW careers....</p><p> </p><p> ....as for the match itself, as far as WCW television matches go, this one was excellent....even the Warrior performed well (but that may be down to the fact that he wasn't blown up by his entrance before the match even began, since he now WALKS to the ring, completely ignoring the fans like an aloof a$$hole....a gimmick which he's improving in by the day)....</p><p> </p><p> .....Page and Benoit are both clearly looking to make an peril role, further raising his teammates stock when he finally makes the hot tag to Benoit.....</p><p> </p><p> .....obviously given the tensions around these two teams, the match then descends into a wild brawl, with the action spilling to the outside, leaving Benoit alone with Hogan in the ring....and in the biggest shock of all, the Canadian Crippler is able to take the WCW Champion to the mat, where he locks in the Crossface.....and Hollywood Hogan taps like crazy in submission.....</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> .....unfortunately the official doesn't see it, he's too busy trying to get Also...I'd still be pissed that Steiner lost to Ahmed f'n Johnson and might have permanently switched to WCW...</p>
