The curious case of World Level Wrestlng

Japan is famous for many things; Anime, noodles, Bullet trains, cars, tea,unique culture etc. Country also has knack for weird things. Another thing to be added in that list would be: LuchaResu.

Japan is also the birthplace of Wrestling; where it is so beloved and respected that the top company BHOTWG is dubbed as King of Sports in the country. Japan has seen major changes in its wrestling legacy. Currently, country is witnessing another revolution with the courtesy of Koji Kojima- Owner and founder of WLW- Leaders of Modern Japan Movement and third biggest wrestling company in Japan.

"Koji Kojima"

Koji Kojima was fairly average wrestler who wrestled as a Junior. The last decade was arguably era of Juniors spearheaded by Optimus and elemental and its effect was many juniors such as Koji found it difficult to break into the top encheleons with workers from USA and Mexico also participating in already starstudded japanese juniors wrestling scene with only BHOTWG as the place where they could show their skills on national level.Hence Koji started a new promotion at the start of the New millennium,WLW or World Level Wrestling. Only promotion at that time which was solely for Juniors style wrestlers.

Then, Japanese wrestling scene was going through a cut-throat competition between CGC, BHOTWG. The War also saw short lived INPSIRE as well as PGHW as probable contenders for the crown of Puroresu. Then, WLW was the place where you could take your children, family or when you wanted a break from high intensity strong style or King’s Road and wanted to have fun as it introduced explosive high-fliers combined with dynamic young lions who dreamed of working for the top-promotions in the world, resulting in a new style of wrestling-LuchaResu. WLW also had a knack for humour, thus, promotion had already started to attract the ‘Smart’ crowd right from the beginning. You can check out their commercial

WLW first came in global spotlight when a fiery, arrogant redhead MAGNUM Kobe went to war with Emerald Angle, Arguably, the world’s greates high-flier. Kobe pitted his Strong style against Graceful arial ability of Angel, which resulted in the one of the best rivalries the wrestling world had seen in years.

"Rivals for life"

WLW rided this wave of popularityv and used it as a foundation to continue their expansion. Today, WLW is right behind PGHW and BHOTWG as leaders of Modern Japan movement-overtaking legendary GCG and leaving them far behind and making afromentioned promotions to be on their toes. WLW have also cultivated many talents and have homegrown stars who are termed as WLW Originals. One of the first few companies to use regular schedule in Japan through Modern Japan Movement, their success has seen BHOTWG also changing their schedule to regular rather than touring.

Recently, WLW inaugurated a new website as well as a new 1 hr show- WLW Action! To complement their flagship show- Lucharesu! Becoming first Japanese promotion to have two shows on live television, in the process.

Until few years ago, BHOTWG and PHGW didn’t even acknowledge WLW though BHOTWG regularly raided their roster to refill their junior divison. Tables are turned now as WLW recently signed former BHOTWG Jr champion MYSTIC Dragon from BHOTWG as well as won the bidding war against both the companies for the current EXODUS no.1 contender Orange Tsuchie, an exciting prospect.

Their rise is seen similar to DaVE, The beloved American company who offered something different at that time but failed because of finanical mismanagement . Though probability of WLW following same path is negligible as company recorded close to 4 million¥ profit for the first half of the year - in fiscal economy and slow wrestling industry. It is to be seen that how far this Fun loving wrestling company can go with their Mix of Styles and cultures.

Dubbing themselves as destroyers of WLW, BHN has been targeting major stars as well company owner Kojima for almost a decade. Glorious black house Nation once dominated WLW, but only a shell of their glory days remain with only two founding members - Maita and Narato remaining. WLW has withstood and got rid off many factions with same intentions but they haven’t been able to get rid of BHN yet. BHN remain the most hated people in the WLW, as they have injured many wrestlers and have disrespected titles consistently for a long time now.

Faction has taken a new lease of life with Black Canvas Grappler Razan Okamoto joining BHN in March, because he didn’t like WLW hogging all the the spotlight in the Japanese wrestling world and believing that WLW are disrespecting the tradition of Puroresu.

Def-Realm is the group founded by Ace of the WLW - Emerald Angel in 2009 as an organized response to many factions ravaging the WLW. The faction can be deemed as a success as WLW is still going strong. All of the members excluding New addition Capt. WLW has been universal champion at least once. The group has been only a namesake for a while now as BHN was the only currently present threat ; on its dying bed,but inclusion of Okamoto in BHN as well as the formation of the newest faction to threaten WLW- Dragon-gun has made all the members of Def-realm to assemble again. Veterans- Hisato, Kojima and Ishibashi are the ones who are on the watch, with Emeral Angel now persuing his 6th Universal Championship reign.

'Leader-Mystic Dragon, The Awesome Kiyaru, Super Joshua and White Samurai'

Dragon-Gun is the most recent stable to join the wacky world of WLW. Mystic DRAGON who graduated from Project Arkham City- Dojo of WLW was not offered a contract(keyfabe, he was offered contract and he also wrestled for WLW albeit without the facepaint and under a different name.) and after few years he went on to became BHOTWG juniors champion. MD made his comeback earlier this year and went on to win WLW Universal Championship to prove his worth and complete his redemption. Not happy with his achievements, Mystic Dragon still thinks that WLW doesn’t respect him enough and has been demanding it from wrestlers as well as audience by hook or by crook.

He didn’t come alone though, he brought some friends with him; Awesome Kiyaru, Super Joshua as well as youngster White Samurai. Dragon-Gun has been terrorizing the roster since, running interferences in matches, attacking wrestlers backstage.

Two guys who only like to have fun and kick ass, with third one keeping both in check, sums up Infamy Inc.

What started as a tag team formed between two directionless guys has now turned into the hottest act in the company today. Since Infamy Inc. helped KOBE in his fight against BHN, they haven’t looked back with all three guys better than ever. KOBE has also started to include them in his AMV’s tells much about their bond.

What started as a joke has turned into reality. After tagging with Panda Mask once and getting irritated with his lazy antics, Kurata Yelled ,“Wrestling is Life, dude!, enjoy it” His words have been taken seriously by Panda Mask II and he has formed a stable with all of the Animal masked guys, forming W.I.L.D(Wrestling is life,dude)!

Stable includes PANDA MASK as leader with Masked Cougar being the next most prominent member. Fox Mask and youngster Tiger Prince are the rest of the guys.

The 505( Nobody knows the meaing or significance of the number) is the ‘gaijin’ faction of the WLW. Wrestlers from all over the world have been part of it. There is no unified goal or target or even a leader for the faction, though members have been seen hanging out together after shows. Recent years have seen members from faction fighting each other for Championships albeit in a respectful manner.

WLW is my favorite C-Verse company, I'll definitely be reading.

WLW has become my favourite company too, I mean look at the roster! You have incredible wrestlers, you have very different,some larger than life characters and then you have an ace who has CC and likes to showoff, gets upset at small things, flames his co-workers backstage and not just that, he is friends with Owner and is relative of the owner's best friend. Such a wonderful World!

<p>Really enjoying this so far. I loved the advert post. I tried a similiar thing once with a USPW show with the POV changing to different characters but you pulled it off much better. </p><p> </p><p>

I've had a long save with GCG before where I took down WLW so it will be interesting to cheer on WLW this time. I don't know the roster too well but I signed Okamoto too, he was supposed to be part of a team for a few years but he soon outshined everyone as became my ace. </p><p> </p><p>

Looks interesting so far. First time I've been excited for a Japanese company in the cverse. That's not a knock on anyone else, just that I tend not to even read them because I don't know the companies involved, and barely know any wrestlers either. This looks slick and well presented, which attracted me initially. Then reading through I think it'll be a fun one! Keep up the great work!

It is supposed to a performance based but a comedy promotion with 80% of matches. Its pretty different. It is very easy to run it( great performers) but in terms of storylines, it is pretty challenging and fun too! Tsunami have broken our backs though!</p><p> </p><p> Also, WLW is supposed to have mainstream attention( stars, anime/Prime Time slot and shows/commercial tie-ups) which has resulted in their quick growth.
