Photobucket TOS Agreement Change?

Recommended Posts

Sorry for posting this here and any mod feels the need to move this to a more appropriate forum.... but has anyone else been affected by an apparent change in Photobucket's TOS? It would seem that none of my diary pics will display any longer until I upgrade to one of their paid plans (which, by the way, the minimum for 3rd party image hosting is $100/a year! no thanks!).

Am I the only jabroni on GDS not paying Photobucket? Or am I just the only one who got caught?

Is this even a legit change to Photobucket, or is this just a temporary photobucket malfunction?

I don't know if it's arbitrary or what as my images appear to be working, still. Maybe it's only a matter of time? I don't know... I saw Kijar mention it, though.

Mine also appear to be working at the moment, it's going to be an utter ball ache if they suddenly stop though and I have to re up everything somewhere else :/

<p>So a quick bit of research I did following my post last night, and in fact it's a legit thing as kentl pointed out. Simply searching "photobucket" on Twitter brings back an array of angry costumers who use the site for forums, blogs, personal websites, etc. </p><p> </p><p>

It doesn't seem that every account has been nailed yet, so I think there are several users on GDS who are not yet affected. My advice to you is to move your stuff to another site before much longer, because my guess is there will be more blocks as the change was just implemented yesterday (with no notice to users).</p><p> </p><p>

I think the only hope is the negative backlash they are receiving will force them to revise the policy, but then again they are Photobucket.</p>

I def. won't be doing that. I was thinking about trying Google Drive/Google Photo and seeing if that will let me do 3rd party sites...but I haven't checked into it yet. I know Imgr seems to be a pretty popular alternative too. I worry that companies like Imgr will simply follow Photobucket's lead on this...hence why I plan on starting with Google.</p>

I'll just not bother with pics. It's a diary, not a magazine writers application. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<p>I never liked Photobucket, not even with my diaries. Going to log in and delete the photos i've uploaded there.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="doseofstyle" data-cite="doseofstyle" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43853" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>If anyone wants any image hosting i have created a site for it.<p> </p><p> <a href="http://tew2016.com/images/" rel="external nofollow">TEW Image Hosting</a></p><p> </p><p> This is the first time i have done something like this.</p><p> </p><p> any issues with it send me an message.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Is it fast and more efficient? If that so, the next diary i try i'll use it.</p><p> </p><p> Update: I deleted my Photobucket account, but the ads almost make it impossible.</p>

Looks like I somehow picked the right time to "lose my smile" after all. $40 a month just to show pictures on third party sites is ridiculous. It looks like photobucket has forgotten it's place in the world; as a hosting site, it had turned into a mess anyways, so if/when I do come back to writing, reckon I'll just find somewhere else.

if/when

Get that outta here

Hope this doesn't deter too many of y'all away from this line of work. I don't think re-doing everything is the best idea, but certainly a switch to other hosting sites will fix your woes.

Yeah, I'm not going anywhere. I'm definitely not going to go back to fix seventy pages/over a year of shows' worth of images, but going forward I'm going to be hosting on another image site. It's going to make posting the next couple of shows a bit slow, but I'm gonna be trucking on.

(my image naming schemes were getting a bit convoluted, anyways)

What I'm doing is that I'm re-doing the pictures for my last month of shows and then all the previous PPVs. I might just delete the pictures for all the other RAW's that don't matter. It'll be better looking than the ugly third party hosting picture.

I hope many of the great diary writers out there aren't too deterred by this Photobucket crap. Quite honestly, everyone seems to agree that the site sucked so moving to a new one will probably make everyone's lives easier.

There are way too many good projects out and about right now, and I for one, hope that the various writers don't walk away from them. If you feel like your time and energy has been wasted because of this change, I get that. But please know that your writing/booking/storytelling talent shouldn't go to waste because photobucket crapped the bed. Many of us here on GDS have been engrossed in these stories and want them to continue. If any writers do chose to walk away from their current projects, and I get why they might, than I hope they launch new diaries with a new hosting site because you folks are too damn good.

That said, I think the place on the forums that will really get hit by this Photobucket thing is the Mod forums where various render and cut artists have fed the GDS community for years. Hopefully these folks decide to move their work to other hosting sites and continue to provide for those of us who lack those skills. Much like the diary writers, you folks are all immensely talented as well and hopefully Photobucket doesn't deter you from your work/passion/art.

However, I hosted them once and if I feel the time has come for a project to strike, I will be gladly doing it again.</p><p> </p><p> I don't find any of people's shows "unreadable" now, because the words haven't changed at all. It's just that the pictures aren't showing up, which is an annoyance but not the worldkiller that it may feel like. This absolutely sucks, but it was a change forced upon us, not one we asked for. All we can do is band together as a forum and move our business somewhere else, somewhere that seems to appreciate the people who use it more. There's no way it was a bandwidth issue because with all the pictures I've had spread across 1994, 1997, 1994 part two, and 2001, I was still only using 1% of my photobucket space. So literally they are just randomly deciding to be assholes about this in order to make money. Even my favorite site for information, historyofwwe.com, has lost all of it's images because of this. I am hoping that they don't shut down most of all. But besides, pictures don't make the story. They make it pop, sure, but the story is what's most important.</p><p> </p><p> In short, our forum and stories can survive. This is a minor blow against the entire way of the internet. But it will survive. Photobucket is only one site, after all.</p>

Ugh, is there any way to change the file names on imgur? I used to just copy and paste from my last shows with Photobucket because the files were easily recognisable by whatever I'd named them....these imgur links are giberish and it's going to take me twice as long to have to scroll through a ton of images to find the one I want <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/confused.png.d4a8e6b6eab0c67698b911fb041c0ed1.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<p>Well, I guess I got off lucky then. My diary didn't have pictures to begin with so i'm practically safe.</p><p> </p><p>

On the other hand, I have a feeling that this decision may actually wind up being the one thing that kills the website or at least renders it obsolete.</p><p> </p><p>

One things for certain, i'm suddenly glad I didn't sign up for Photobucket.</p>
