Taylor struggled best he could but was not getting away, Slaughter lifted Taylor up off the chair to his feet still holding him. This reign has been different for Race who in the past was more than willing to step in the ring with whoever was put forth as a top contender and show why he was the World Champion a man to be feared and respected for his skills in the ring. But this time Race seems less inclined to step in with men like Rhodes,Jack or Jerry Brisco, Terry or Dory Funk or Barry Windham. Race bristles when you mention things like this, it's well known that despite his unprecedented 7th title reign he is getting up there in age a few months shy of his 40th birthday, all the years in the ring and on the road have taken their toll yet Race continues to put on top matches against different opponents. Scared might not be the word for Race, smart might be better, a wily veteran champion using every scrap of knowledge and wisdom to retain the most coveted title in all of wrestling by any mean necessary. Jim Crockett Promotions Presents Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling Richmond Virginia, Richmond Athletic Center

Bob Caudle opened the program bringing in David Crockett to talk about what happened to Roddy Piper at the hands of the Russians on World Wide Wrestling. Bob just tells us to watch as they show a replay of Nikita Koloff catching Piper with a vicious Russian Sickle during the Mid-Atlantic title match with Ivan Koloff. David's level of disgust with the incident on a scale of 1 to 10 is at 11 as he just goes on and on about horrible the Koloffs are.

This brings in Ivan Koloff who tells David Crockett to go shed his tears for Piper somewhere else. He is the Mid-Atlantic champion and nobody can beat Russian superiority. And if you don't believe him just watch what his nephew Nikita will do to this Mosca Jr.

Opening Match saw the big Russian Nikita Koloff accompanied by his uncle Mid-Atlantic champion Ivan Koloff defeat Angelo Mosca Jr. in a short one sided affair with Koloff destroying Mosca Jr with a Russian Sickle to get the win. Mosca Jr. tried some weak offense that did nothing to Koloff other than irritate the Russian.

Bob Caudle got some words from the Assassins, Assassin 1 promised they would send those Briscos crawling back on their bellies to the swamps of Florida where they came from. Assassin 2 stayed silent as usual.

United States Heavyweight champion Greg Valentine defeated Randy Mulkey with the Figure Four Leglock. Mulkey had no chance against the Hammer who disassembled Mulkey with machine like precision and looked great doing it.

Bob Caudle talked to Greg Valentine after the match and said how good Valentine looked in the ring. Valentine said that's the smartest thing he's ever heard Caudle say but asked how else would you expect the U.S. Champ to be? Caudle then asked about Wahoo McDaniel which made Valentine bristle who went on an angry tirade about McDaniel having no self control and wondered whether McDaniel could use some sort of shock therapy or maybe a lobotomy like in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. The crowd was hot after Valentine got done

King Kong Mosca defeated Renegade Mark Youngblood after decking Youngblood with a foreign object. An excellent match between the big, brawling Mosca and the fiery Youngblood who held his own against the big man.

<a href="

http://tinypic.com?ref=ehly10" target="_blank"><img src="http://i64.tinypic.com/ehly10.jpg" border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a>

Bob Caudle introduced a new comer to the area, J.J Dillon. J.J talked about working in Florida and Memphis and now it was time to move on and what better place than Mid-Atlantic Wrestling. Caudle asked if J.J had his eye on managing anyone in particular, J.J said he's always on the lookout for the diamond in the rough that he can molded into championship material but isn't adverse to advising a known quantity either.

Popular Indian star Jay Youngblood defeated George South with a Flying Tomahaw Chop. The fans loved Youngblood and everything he did, for his part Jay Youngblood was on fire tonight and looked like a star.

David Crockett fawned over Jack and Jerry Brisco during an interview when the Briscos said they were gonna run the Assassins ragged tonight and make them wish they'd never step foot in the ring.Briscos despite Crockett's grating style were excellent.

Back to the ring the man from the Den of Sin, the Great Kabuki performed his green mist ritual spitting it in the air before his match which put the fans on edge.

The Great Kabuki defeated Rufus R. Jones after a thrust kick to the throat. Rufus wasn't intimidated by the strange and unorthodox Kabuki. Jones thought he had Kabuki with some heavy shots and headbutts but a thrust kick to the throat caught Jones by surprise and gave Kabuki the pinfall. Kabuki after the win spun in circles and then shot more of that mysterious green mist in the air.

Don Kernoodle defeated Bugsy McGraw thanks to some interference from Private Jim Nelson.

Kernoodle, a solid talent and half of the world tag team champions gave McGraw as good as he got but eventually got into some trouble thankfully Private Nelson was at ringside to lend some moral support grabbing Bugsy by the leg, McGraw got distracted, Kernoodle rolled big Bugsy up from behind and got the quick pin.

Don Kernoodle and Private Jim Nelson decided to take advantage of the situation and jumped Bugsy McGraw and were getting the best of him when Boogie Woogie Man Jimmy Valiant rushed the ring and the wild duo sent the Cobra Corps heading for higher ground. The crowd was insanely hot for Valiant.

The Briscos lived up to their word running roughshod over the masked Assassins. Jack Brisco got the submission on Assassin 1 with the figure four leglock. The Assassins team work, normally very good just couldn't match up to the teamwork of the two brothers. Assassin 2 showed some impressive power moves but the Briscos were just too good tonight.

Main Event

Sgt. Slaughter defeated Mid-Atlantic legend Johnny Weaver with the Cobra Clutch in an outstanding match. The crowd hated Slaughter and loved Weaver. An even match between the two for the most part, but Slaughter's size and power ended up too much though for Weaver who found himself after fighting the good fight locked in the deadly Cobra Clutch and nowhere to go. An impressive win for Slaughter and a great main event with the crowd invested in every moment of the match. Even David Crockett's overdone commentary couldn't drag this match down.

Bob and David ended things with the promise of a big tag team match next week as well as a big show coming at the end of the month to the Greensboro Coliseum.

Bob politely interrupted David to send things back to the ring.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Johnny Weaver</strong> defeated <strong>George South</strong> in a very basic, slow moving match that stayed mat based. The fans like and respect Johnny Weaver but this match drained the energy from the crowd. Paul Jones said he sat back and watched all these other wrestlers claiming to be the top wrestler in area like Steamboat and Youngblood and the Briscos and that no good liar Wahoo but there is only one Number One and that's Paul Jones and he will soon be standing back on top of the heap right where he belongs.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Paul Jones</strong> defeated <strong>Randy Mulkey</strong> in short order, quickly going to work on the leg of Mulkey and getting the submission with the Indian Deathlock. </p><p> </p><p> Finally to <strong>David Crockett's</strong> relief <strong>Jim Crockett Jr </strong>came out and joined <strong>Bob Caudle</strong> to announce a big show coming Greensboro North Carolina at the Greensboro Coliseum with all the titles being defended called the<strong> Night of Champions.</strong> Crockett went on to say “that already signed for this big night <strong>NWA World champion Harley Race will face Jack Brisco</strong>, also that <strong>Rufus R. Jones </strong>has asked for and been granted a rematch against the <strong>Great Kabuki</strong> </p><p> </p><p> Bob asked about the rest of the card which Jim said would be fully announced on Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. He added that "<strong>Greg Valentine</strong> will defend his U.S. title,<strong>Ivan Koloff </strong>will defend his Mid-Atlantic title and the NWA World Tag team champions <strong>Sgt.Slaughter and Don Kernoodle</strong> will also defend their titles."</p><p> </p><p> Bob thanked Jim and then was joined by the tag team champions <strong>Sgt. Slaughter and Don Kernoodle</strong> with <strong>Private Nelson.</strong> They talked to Bob about the Cobra Corps recruits taking on <strong>Bugsy McGraw</strong> and <strong>Jimmy Valiant.</strong> Slaughter said his men are finely tuned machines and will have no problem with those undisciplined goofs like Valiant and McGraw. Bob asked about the Cobra Clutch challenge, Slaughter says no one had the guts this week to accept the challenge and that the $500 dollars is safe and sound.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>David Crockett</strong> asked Slaughter about defending the titles in Greensboro. Slaughter said "Who cares who it is, these belts are going no where. <strong>Don Kernoodle</strong> said” we are worshiped in Greensboro, those people know how to treat champions.” Slaughter added “You could learn a thing a two from Greensboro. Now why don’t you show a little respect for a real man, a true champion in the ring.”</p><p> </p><p> Bob sent us to the ring the next match with the NWA world champion. As cameras turned to the ring, Slaughter and his men could be seen stopping to salute the champion before heading to the back.</p><p> <strong>Bob Caudle</strong> said it’s a rare occurrence for the NWA champion to wrestle on television. <strong>David Crockett</strong> called it “a treat.”</p><p> </p><p> <strong>NWA world champion Harley Race</strong> defeated the <strong>Renegade Mark Youngblood.</strong> Youngblood put up a good fight but when you are facing the world champion good isn't enough. After Youngblood missed a splash Race picked apart and toyed with the young man before finally ending the match with a suplex. A good match with an excited crowd, Youngblood did well, Harley Race was Harley Race.</p><p> </p><p> Bob was fortunate enough to get some words from the champ. <strong>Harley Race </strong>said for all the doubters out there that was a little sample of what this world champion can do. And in Greensboro <strong>Jack Brisco</strong> will get that and much, much more</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><a href="</p><a href="http://tinypic.com?ref=2gtygbk" rel="external nofollow">http://tinypic.com?ref=2gtygbk"</a> target="_blank"><img src="<a href="http://i63.tinypic.com/2gtygbk.jpg" rel="external nofollow">http://i63.tinypic.com/2gtygbk.jpg"</a> border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a></div><p></p><p></p><p> In the main event <strong>Jimmy Valiant and Bugsy McGraw </strong>defeated <strong>Don Kernoodle and Private Nelson</strong>.For a time with <strong>Sgt. Slaughter </strong>barking out orders Kernoodle and Nelson had Valiant and McGraw in a world of hurt. McGraw got things back in his team's favor with his Three Stooges attack. Valiant finished Private Nelson with an elbow smash/elbow drop combination. The response to Boogie Woogie Man Jimmy Valiant and Bugsy McGraws style and antics is just crazy.</p><p> </p><p> After the match an upset <strong>Sgt.Slaughter</strong> got in the ring and demanded to know what happened. Kernoodle blamed Nelson for the loss. Slaughter yelled at Nelson to stand at attention and then dressed the private down yelling “what is wrong with you? Are you not a well trained fighting machine?”</p><p> Nelson could only say “Sir! Yes Sir!” Slaughter made Nelson drop and give him 20 before marching the Cobra Corps to the back.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Greg Valentine </strong>gave<strong> David Crockett</strong> the pleasure of his company and went on another rant saying “McDaniel doesn’t deserve to be in the same building with me much less the same ring.” David Crockett with his usual tact accused Valentine of “being scared of Wahoo, of putting the United States title on the line against the Chief and came short of saying Valentine’s days as champion are numbered if Wahoo ever gets a hold of him.” Valentine didn’t like what Crockett said telling him “You calling me a coward Crockett?” </p><p> </p><p> David backpedaled answering” That’s not what I said. I think you know Wahoo has your number and that you are holding on to the U.S. title by a thread.” Valentine was in a huff now “ do you know who I am! I’m Greg Valentine, the United States champion and no two bit, down on his luck Indian is gonna slap me around like some squaw from the reservation. I’m going to tell you and especially you McDaniel, I wanted to hurt you again, I was willing to settle for just beating you, now I’m going to put you out of Mid-Atlantic wrestling for good!” Valentine walked off much to David Crockett’s relief. Bob Caudle closed out the show. </p></div></blockquote>

You won't be walking out of Greensboro with my NWA title or on your own two feet.</p><p> <strong>Rating: B+</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Bob Caudle and David Crockett </strong>welcome everyone and review what we just heard from Harley Race. David jumps to conclusions that Race has just threatened to cripple Jack Brisco in their upcoming match at the Night of Champions. Bob Caudle says when Race speaks people listen then sends us to the ring for our first match today.</p><p> <strong>Rating: B-</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>David Crockett</strong> has a new target for his hype as former NWA champion <strong>Dory Funk Jr. </strong>returned to Mid-Atlantic taking on <strong>George South</strong>. Funk in his usual workman like fashion worked the leg of South over and got the submissions to the spinning toe hold in short order. Fans were happy to see Dory back in Mid-Atlantic rings but not as much as David Crockett was.</p><p> <strong>Rating: C+</strong></p><p> </p><p> Bob brings up <strong>Roddy Piper</strong> and the Russians, David wants us to show a replay of what happened.</p><p> <strong>Video replay</strong> of the Mid-Atlantic title match between <strong>Ivan Koloff</strong> and <strong>Roddy Piper.</strong> Piper being laid out by Koloff's nephew NIkita with a Russian Sickle and Koloff getting the pinfall followed by the massive Nikita putting the boots to the downed Roddy Piper.</p><p> <strong>Rating: B+</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Ivan and Nikita</strong> make their way out. Nikita stands glaring at the air. Ivan with the Mid-Atlantic title is asked by<strong> David Crockett </strong>what he thinks of what we just saw from World Wide Wrestling almost two weeks ago. Ivan tells Crockett “all I see is this <strong>Roddy Piper</strong> being pinned by me.” Crockett points to Nikita who glares some more “what about what he did?” Ivan responded that “my nephew did nothing but make sure that this Piper character didn't run away from the wrestling match. You see all through that match this Roddy Piper begged me not to hurt him, begged me not to make him look bad in front of all these people. I knew that this Piper had no courage and would try and run away and save face. I knew this as well as did Nikita because we looked into this man's eyes and saw fear. Nikita just made sure he took his inevitable loss like a man that is all.”</p><p> </p><p> <strong>David Crockett</strong> then made a huge fuss about Koloff not seeing what we all just saw and that he may be interested in this video that Roddy Piper sent in to Jim Crockett Promotions. Ivan Koloff wasn't the least be bothered as the video rolled.</p><p> <strong>Rating: B-</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><a href="</p><a href="http://tinypic.com?ref=2d10oih" rel="external nofollow">http://tinypic.com?ref=2d10oih"</a> target="_blank"><img src="<a href="http://i68.tinypic.com/2d10oih.jpg" rel="external nofollow">http://i68.tinypic.com/2d10oih.jpg"</a> border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a></div><p></p><p></p><p> Piper congratulates the Koloffs on doing something very few have ever done and that's leaving him down on the ground. He chuckles and says it's something he probably would've done. The thing that really bothers him is that he never saw it coming. Piper says "see I like to think I'm a smart guy, not college smart or anything but street smart. Usually I can smell a setup a mile away, but you and that big monkey of yours caught me with my guard down and that's something I can't let go of. </p><p> </p><p> I've been in plenty of fights lost a few, won a few more but getting made to look like a sucker, well that ain't gonna stand. Ya know I've done some things, things people know about, some they don't so ol Hot Rod ain't got many friends, never wanted them, never needed them, don't care how many there are 1,2 5 I fight my own battles but I like I said I pride myself on being pretty smart.<strong>(Piper pulls out a baseball bat, chuckling again)</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> I always liked baseball, it's a nice quiet game, takes some thought and strategy to play but every so often you need somebody to come out with a big stick and hit a grand-slam and that's what me and my pal, have you met my pal his name his <strong>Louisville, Louisville slugger </strong>and he just can't wait to meet you Ivan<strong>(Piper crinkles up his face)</strong>and he really can't wait to meet you little Nikita.</p><p> <strong>Rating: A</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>David Crockett</strong> had a big smile and a holier than though attitude when he asked the Russian Bear what he thought of Piper's taped comments. Ivan said "let him bring what ever he wants, Nikita, myself have no fear of this Piper and his bat. My nephew Nikita will show you what Russian superiority really is.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Bob Caudle </strong>did the introductions as <strong>Nikita Koloff</strong> faced off against <strong>Randy and Bill Mulkey</strong> in a handicapped match in what <strong>David Crockett</strong> called uncomfortable to watch. From the moment Nikita entered the ring it was just total domination by the big Russian on both Mulkeys, The younger Koloff hit a Russian Sickle on Randy Mulkey and could have easily got the pin but Bill decided to jump off the top ropes right into Nikita's arms. A vicious backbreaker and Koloff “stacked the poor Mulkeys up like cords of wood” according to Crockett and pinned both men.</p><p> <strong>Rating: C+</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Bob Caudle</strong> then talked to<strong> Jay Youngblood and Rick Steamboat. </strong>Youngblood said they are training hard for whatever opportunity presents itself. Whether it's the Mid-Atlantic title, the World Tag team titles or if one of them is fortunate enough to get a World title shot.</p><p> <strong>Rating: B</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rick Steamboat </strong>said Jay was right and that no matter what happens we are there for each other like brothers. If we happen to win the tag titles we would be happy, if one of us wins a singles title it would be the same as them winning as a team.</p><p> <strong>Rating: B+</strong></p><p> </p><p> Bob sends it to the ring for a match with the mysterious <strong>Great Kabuki</strong> who does a pre-match ritual of blowing green mist into the air. <strong>David Crockett </strong>in his own special way asks "where does Kabuki get that mist from, it's almost like magic."</p><p> <strong>Rating: C+</strong></p><p> </p><p> Kabuki spins in circles before facing his opponent <strong>Angelo Mosca Jr.</strong>The mist combined with the spinning in circles seemed to throw Mosca Jr. off whatever game plan he had. Kabuki just punished Mosca Jr. with karate shots to the throat, a nerve hold clamped onto the shoulder limited what Mosca Jr. could do. Kabuki finished things off with a thrust kick to the throat to get the pinfall.</p><p> <strong>Rating: C-</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Bob Caudle</strong> was joined by <strong>Jack Brisco</strong> to talk about facing <strong>Harley Race</strong> at the Greensboro Night of Champions. Brisco said he was fortunate to hold the NWA world title at one time but to get another opportunity to be the champion again is a gift, one that won't be wasted regardless of the supposed threats Race has made.</p><p> <strong>Rating: A</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><a href="</p><a href="http://tinypic.com?ref=2cql7ac" rel="external nofollow">http://tinypic.com?ref=2cql7ac"</a> target="_blank"><img src="<a href="http://i67.tinypic.com/2cql7ac.jpg" rel="external nofollow">http://i67.tinypic.com/2cql7ac.jpg"</a> border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a></div><p></p><p></p><p> In what<strong> David Crockett</strong> called "a spectacular tag team match up"<strong> The Assasins</strong> faced off against <strong>Rick Steamboat and Jay Youngblood. </strong>It was the one time Crockett wasn’t exaggerating as all four put on a very good match. Steamboat and Youngblood worked quickly and were very precise.</p><p> </p><p> The Assassins had some problems with the speed of Youngblood and Steamboat but the powerful Assassin 2 was able to slow things down. Neither team could maintain much of an advantage and the match ended up going to a time limit draw much to everyone's disappointment especially David Crockett who was more enamored with Steamboat and Youngblood than the fans.</p><p> <strong>Rating: B+</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>The Assassins</strong> were not happy with the outcome and told <strong>Bob Caudle </strong>they want a rematch with Steamboat and Youngblood with no time limit. </p><p> <strong>Rating: C+</strong></p><p> </p><p> In a match for the Mid-Atlantic title <strong>Ivan Koloff</strong> took on the legendary <strong>Johnny Weaver.</strong> It was a great albeit a little slow and lackluster match. Weaver had his hands full with Ivan in the ring and Nikita prowling around the outside. Koloff had Weaver down and yelled at <strong>David Crockett </strong>"see this is how we deal with you weak Americans." Koloff then found himself being hiptossed by Weaver. Even at his age Johnny pulled off a monkey flip. Koloff got caught in the Weaver Sleeper and was fading when he made a last ditch effort sending Weaver through the ropes and to the floor.</p><p> </p><p> While the elder Koloff occupied the referee complaining Weaver was using a choke, Nikita attacked Weaver driving him into the apron back first and then rolling him back into the ring. The Russian Bear grabbed Weaver, went to the top turnbuckle and drove Weaver down with a knee in the back to get the pinfall.</p><p> <strong>Rating: A</strong></p><p> </p><p> Bob was joined by the NWA tag team champions <strong>Sgt.Slaughter and Don Kernodle</strong> along with <strong>Private Nelson</strong>. Slaughter said “some how those idiots McGraw and Valiant wormed their way into a title match with myself and Don Kernodle.” Bob questioned “how much trouble could Valiant and McGraw cause for the tag team champions.” Kernoodle said “how much do you worry about a bug on your windshield? You don’t, you just turn on the wipers and wash that bug right off and that’s what me and the Sarge are going to do to Valiant and McGraw in Greensboro.”</p><p> <strong>Rating:B</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Sgt. Slaughter</strong> then said it was time to move on to more important things, the Cobra Clutch challenge saying “it looks like Mosca Jr. thinks he’s going to walk away with my money.” Bob sent us to the ring to a waiting Mosca Jr. Slaughter ordered Kernodle and Pvt.Nelson to stand at ringside. Mosca Jr. was wary of Slaughter as he brought a chair into the ring. Slaughter set the chair up and told Mosca Jr. to sit down. After a minute or two Slaughter said to Mosca Jr. “how bad do you want this money?” Mosca Jr. finally sat down, Slaughter slowly and deliberately applied the Cobra Clutch. In the corner of the t.v. studio <strong>King Kong Mosca</strong> could be seen watching. </p><p> <strong>Rating: B-</strong></p><p> </p><p> Slaughter then cinched up the Clutch, the chair went flying to the side as Mosca Jr. tried in vain to escape. Slaughter cinched up tighter and tighter and Mosca Jr. had no chance and gave up. Slaughter gave it one last bit of tightening and then let Mosca Jr. go. <strong>King Kong Mosca</strong> disappeared to the back as his son was being checked on by the ref. Slaughter came over and told Bob Caudle “I give that young man credit, he took up the challenge which is more than I can say for most of the supposed men around here. Just remember nobody breaks the Cobra Clutch, it’s unbreakable and makes the Cobra Corps unbeatable and unstoppable.”</p><p> <strong>Rating: B</strong></p><p> </p><p> Up next was the <strong>United States champion Greg Valentine</strong> as he faced off against the<strong> Renegade Mark Youngblood.</strong> The fans were solidly behind Youngblood who more than held his own against the Hammer. After several near falls by Youngblood, Valentine angered took the Renegade apart working over the leg and knee. Stomping on it, slamming it on the ring apron.Valentine then grabbed Youngblood's leg and said "this is for Wahoo!" and locked on the Figure Four. Youngblood submitted quickly.</p><p> <strong>Rating: B</strong></p><p> </p><p> After getting his hand raised and handed his U.S. title. Valentine attacked Mark Youngblood again slamming the title into the knee. Valentine then went to lock the Figure Four back on again.</p><p> <strong>Rating: B-</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> <strong>Greg Valentine</strong> in his desire to hurt Youngblood failed to see <strong>Wahoo McDaniel </strong>charge the ring. A couple of tomahawk chops was all it took for Valentine to head for higher ground but not without promising to destroy McDaniel and any other Indian that gets in his way.</p><p> <strong>Rating: B</strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Wahoo McDaniel</strong> after making sure <strong>Mark Youngblood</strong> was able to get out of the ring was called over by <strong>David Crockett</strong> who said "I think you got Valentine's number and he's scared." Wahoo said "I've had my battles with the Valentines for years first Johnny and now Greg. I can tell you this, Valentine ain't afraid but he should be. He's not the only one who can break someone's leg or arm. I got no problem putting somebody in a cast or in a hospital, especially someone like Valentine. You want to try and hurt someone like you did Mark then try the big Chief on for size." Fans were big on Wahoo and Valentine through this whole conflict.</p><p> <strong>Rating: B-</strong></p><p> </p><p> Before the show ended Bob and David went over the full lineup for the Night of Champions.</p><p> <strong>NWA World title</strong></p><p><strong> Harley Race faces Jack Brisco</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> United States heavyweight title </strong></p><p><strong> Greg Valentine takes on Chief Wahoo McDaniel</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> NWA World tag team titles</strong></p><p><strong> Sgt. Sgt. Slaughter Leading The Troops Into Battle!

Sergeant Bob Slaughter was a drill instructor for the United States Marine Corps at Parris Island South Carolina preparing young men for battle in the jungles of far away places. He was a hard and unrelenting on molding those young men into well oiled fighting machines. Now years later he finds himself still molding men to go into battle except now the wars are being fought in the wrestling ring.

With his lantern jaw, commanding presence Slaughter has attacked professional wrestling with the same intensity as he did his career in the Marines. He came to the Mid-Atlantic area and immediately made an impression by capturing the United States heavyweight title from Wahoo McDaniel. While defending the title Slaughter took under his wing what would be come the first recruit into the Cobra Corps named after Slaughter's dreaded Cobra Clutch. The first recruit would be known as Private Don Kernodle, Eventually Slaughter would add another impressionable young man who was willing to follow Slaughter's orders. Together Kernodle and Nelson became Privates in Slaughter's personal army.

Slaughter lost the United States title back to McDaniel a few months later. Slaughter decided he didn't like being without a title and chose Kernoodle to be his tag team partner as they went through team after team on their way to capturing the coveted NWA World tag team titles which they did defeating the team of Stan Hansen and Ole Anderson in a one night tournament. Since that time Slaughter and Kernodle have proven formidable defending and retaining against such teams as the Briscos and popular Rick Steamboat and Jay Youngblood.

Sgt.Slaughter has not only become a champion again but has trained his recruits in the fine art of war between the ropes even going so far as to teach both Kernodle and Nelson how to apply the Cobra Clutch. Slaughter said “you need the right weapons when you go to war and the Private Nelson and Don Kernodle hold the greatest weapon known in wrestling, the Cobra Clutch. But regardless of how much practice and training they do their Cobra Clutch will never be as good, as devastating as my own. That is just a fact. No one can apply it with the technique I can, apply the pressure I can. Can Kernodle and Nelson beat people with the Cobra? Of course they can but only my Cobra Clutch can change the world. And with that Sgt.Slaughter lit a cigar and dismissed this lowly maggot.

Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling Present by Jim Crockett Promotions and Sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance

Bob Caudle says there's alot of great action today and lists off seeing King Kong Mosca and Paul Jones team up today as well as Pvt.Nelson taking on Rick Steamboat. David Crockett came over and said in what should be a barn burner, Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight champion, the Russian Bear Ivan Koloff defends against Jay Youngblood. Bob then sent things to the ring to get started.

King Kong Mosca teamed with Paul Jones to take onJerry Grey and surprisingly Mosca's son Angelo Jr.

A strange dynamic as King Kong did everything he could to avoid stepping in against his son. Number One Paul Jones got short with Mosca and a bit of an argument broke out between the two during the match. Jones having enough of King Kong's hem hawing around took out his frustration on Mosca Jr. eventually locking in the Sleeper to get the win. Jones then left Mosca Jr. in the ring refusing to "wake him up". Another altercation occured between Jones and the elder Mosca who forced Jones to get in the ring and "wake" his son.

Rating: C+

Mosca and Jones were still back biting at each other as Bob Caudle tried to get words with them. Mosca stormed off leaving Jones to explain that it was just a miscommunication over strategy and that it happens to the best teams.

Rating: B-

Private Jim Nelson of the Cobra Corps had to try and make ammends with his commander Sgt.Slaughter by taking on Rick Steamboat. Slaughter told Nelson before the match that he "better be victorious Private!" Nelson inspired by Slaughter went right after Steamboat with everything he had and showed alot of aggressiveness which Slaughter at ringside liked. Nelson even managed to weaken Steamboat enough to lock on his version of the Cobra Clutch. Slaughter laughed and claimed the match was won. Steamboat though managed to some how slip out of the infamous hold and rallied strong with chops and a jumping kick to the back of the head of Nelson. Slaughter was not pleased especially seeming Steamboat ascend to the top rope and dive onto Private Nelson to get the pinfall.

Rating: B+

Slaughter hopped in the ring but didn't go after Steamboat instead berating Nelson for being weak and not living up to the standards of the Cobra Corps. He made Nelson drop and give him 50!

Rating: B

Mid Atlantic champion Ivan Koloff talked to Bob Caudle about defending against Jay Youngblood. Koloff said Youngblood is no different than Piper, the Briscos or anyone else. He will show why Russia is the top nation in the world. Koloff got the fans extremely hot.

Rating: A

Mid-Atlantic title match

Popular Jay Youngblood faced the Russian Bear Ivan Koloff in an excellent match. Youngblood had the Russian down and had several near falls. Koloff seemed to have no answer for any of Youngblood's offense. Youngblood had everything going his way, went to the top rope but but Ivan whether intentional or not hit the ropes causing Youngblood to fall and crash hard to the mat. Koloff dropped a knee across the chest and to ensure his victory used a handful of tights to get the win.

Rating: A

Koloff after his questionable victory berated and mocked a down Jay Youngblood. A few boots were all Koloff could get in when Roddy Piper hit the ring, Louisville slugger in hand and chased Koloff off.

Rating: A

Rufus R. Jones defeated George South in a bad match that came as a huge let down after everything else before it. Crowd likes Jones enough but his slow, plodding style of mostly just punches came off badly. Rufus did get the pin after a couple of Freight Train shoulder blocks mowed South over.

Rating: D

Rufus talked to David Crockett about that spooky, scary Kabuki that he's facing at Night of Champions. Like the boogeyman Kabuki appeared in front of Jones and Crockett spinning around in circles and then out of nowhere spewed the nasty "green mist" right in Jones's face and disappeared just as quickly. Crockett was left screaming for help for Jones as several wrestlers came out with wet towels to cover Jones face.

Rating: C+

Crockett's only comment was how bad the that "green stuff Kabuki spit smelled" Rufus was taken away by the other wrestlers to get help.

Bob Caudle switched gears to the world tag team titles held by Sgt.Slaughter and Don Kernoodle. David Crockett "had to give the devil their due." calling Slaughter and Kernoodle the top team in world today but they might find themselves knocked down a peg or two as they are facing the "People's Team" Bugsy McGraw and Boogie Woogie Man Jimmy Valiant for the titles at NIght of champions.

Rating:B-

Bob Caudle said "let's see tha champs in action as they took on Johnny Weaver and Jerry Brisco. Crockett called this a main event anywhere in the country and went into overdrive about how much experience and skill Weaver and Brisco have.

NWA World Tag Team Champions Sgt. Slaughter/Don Kernodle v Jerry Brisco/Johnny Weaver

An outstanding match. Brisco and Weaver controlled the match from the outset, the tag champs just couldn't get anything together for the first few minutes being out maneuvered and out wrestled. Slaughter got Weaver in a corner and drove knees to the mid-section. Weaver fought back and tried for his corner but Kernodle tackled him at the legs and took him down, Slaughter dropped an elbow just to make sure.

After being in for what seemed like an eternity Weaver finally escaped from the tag team champs and tagged in Jerry Brisco. Brisco literally ran over Kernodle to get to Slaughter dragging him in the ring. Brisco hit a backdrop, went to lock Slaughter in the Figure Four. Kernodle tried to break up the Figure Four. Weaver tried to come back in and stop Kernodle but was grabbed by the leg by Pvt. Nelson. Kernodle dropped repeated elbows on Brisco. The referee trying to regain control of the match started a 5 count. Slaughter went to the top rope as Kernodle picked up Brisco in a back suplex position and nailed Brisco with the Slaughter Cannon. Kernodle covered Brisco to get the pin.

Rating: A

An angry Jerry Brisco told David Crockett "I want a re-match, one on one next week, me and Slaughter!"

Rating: B-

Slaughter comes over and said "Brisco if you want a match with me then it's going to cost you? I want you to take the Cobra Clutch challenge next week. I'm even going to make it easy for you. You won't, no I should say can't break it. Just try though and I'll give you your match. Well Brisco?

Rating:A*

Jerry Brisco still angry accepts.

Rating: A

Overall: B
