After the video comes to an end, we swing by the announce table where Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Bobby Heenan are ready to call all of the action here at the biggest event of the year, with Tony welcoming everyone to the "Granddaddy of Them All", Starrcade 2001! Tony notes that the Columbus Civic Center is jam-packed tonight, and Mike Tenay adds that he would expect nothing less for the biggest wrestling event of the year. Even Bobby Heenan is in a great mood tonight, saying that New Years Eve may be just a few days away, but that will be nothing compared to all the action that will take place tonight and he can't wait to get things started. On that note, Tony sends us down to ringside for our opening match here at Starrcade. <strong>(B)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WCW Cruiserweight Championship</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="yQlOLne.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/yQlOLne.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="TqDQ0Kz.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TqDQ0Kz.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />w/<img alt="YJdjdt3.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/YJdjdt3.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="yjZhkPT.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/yjZhkPT.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="aKvdXBw.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/aKvdXBw.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />w/<img alt="GHRyeKg.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/GHRyeKg.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="jzR3NbB.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/jzR3NbB.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />w/<img alt="xwUJi96.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/xwUJi96.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> We kick things off in style here at Starrcade with the first of four title matches as Billy Kidman defends his Cruiserweight Championship against Chavo Guerrero Jr., Shannon Moore and Cash. The action is fast and fierce right out of the gate as all three challengers want a piece of the Champion, turning the opening minutes of this one into a three on one beatdown of Billy Kidman. This "strategy" works well for a bit, but only until Chavo tries to go for a pin attempt, which is immediately broken up by both Shannon Moore and Cash, who both confront Chavo about his actions. The short-lived alliance ends when Chavo decks Cash, and front there it's every man for himself, which Tony Schiavone notes is how it should be. Vampiro and Big Smooth both get involved in the match when Vampiro grabs hold of Cash's leg to distract him and allow Shannon Moore to get the upper hand, Smooth responds to by attacking Vampiro and the two men brawl all the way back up the ramp, leaving just Torrie Wilson at ringside. The end of the match comes after Chavo Guerrero takes out Cash by launching himself over the top rope to hit a crossbody, while Billy Kidman climbs to the top rope and hits the Shooting Star Press on Shannon Moore in the ring. It looks like Kidman will successfully retain his Championship, but just before he can cover Shannon Moore, Chavo is back in the ring and he grabs Kidman, tosses him out of the ring, and steals the pin on Shannon Moore, earning himself a three count and the Cruiserweight Championship in the process.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Chavo Guerrero Jr. defeated Shannon Moore, Billy Kidman and Cash at 14.22 by pinfall when Chavo pinned Moore after stealing the pin from Billy Kidman, who had just hit a Shooting Star Press. After dishing out a beating outside the ring, Mark Jindrak rolls Hugh Morrus into the ring to officially get the match started. Jindrak, Stasiak and Sanders make use of frequent tags to wear Morrus down, but Morrus is eventually able to make the tag to Road Warrior Animal, who starts cleaning house while Tony Schiavone notes that Animal probably has a lot of frustration to work out and he's doing it here as he levels all three Invaders with clothesline after clothesline. Animal makes the tag to Konnan, but Mike Sanders jams a thumb into Konnan's eye to give himself the advantage. The Invaders dominate Konnan for a few minutes, but Konnan is eventually able to almost make the hot tag...but just as he gets to his corner, Jindrak and Stasiak pull Morrus and Animal off the apron and a wild brawl erupts at ringside. Mike Sanders clearly thinks he's got the match won, but he walks right into a kick to the gut from Konnan, who quickly follows up with a facebuster. Konnan then applies the Ziplock and just like that Konnan is able to turn a looming defeat into victory as Sanders has no choice but to submit.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Konnan, Hugh Morrus and Road Warrior Animal defeated The Invaders at 10.15 by submission when Konnan forced Mike Sanders to submit to the Ziplock ©</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="Z1DlA0N.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Z1DlA0N.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="yjZhkPT.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/yjZhkPT.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> We cut to the back where "Mean" Gene Okerlund has caught up with the new WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Chavo Guerrero Jr.! Gene asks Chavo about his win tonight, especially given how he seemed to steal the win out from under Billy Kidman. Chavo is naturally offended by this, saying that he doesn't know what match Gene was watching out there, but he just dominated the very best competitors the cruiserweight division has to offer and he's got the gold to prove it. Gene wants to ask more questions, but Chavo tells him that since he can't show the proper respect to the Champion, then Gene doesn't deserve to interview him any longer. Chavo then walks off as Gene sends us back to ringside. <strong>(D)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="zah6nFe.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/zah6nFe.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="t5bgsE2.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/t5bgsE2.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />w/<img alt="GQpaxEc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/GQpaxEc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> This match has literally been months in the making, but tonight "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair finally gets to go one on one with "The Cat" Ernest Miller. "The Cat" plays keep away early on, wanting no part of Flair who is clearly eager to finally get his hands of "The Cat" after months of issues between them. Flair even chases "The Cat" around the ring, and "The Cat" literally uses Miss Jones as a shield to hide behind. After a brief argument, Miss Jones slaps Flair across the face and "The Cat" uses that opening to finally launch his attack, driving Flair back-first into the guard rail and then rolling him back into the ring. "The Cat" continues to dominate in the ring, taunting Flair at every opportunity, but he finally goes too far when he tries to lock Flair in the Figure Four once again, which immediately prompts a comeback from "The Nature Boy". Flair beats "The Cat" all over the ring, lighting him up with knife edge chops in each of the four corners, then hitting a pair of inverted atomic drops before finally slamming "The Cat" in the middle of the ring. Miss Jones is up on the apron in an attempt to distract Flair, but Flair just tells her to "watch this" and then he applies the Figure Four Leglock. "The Cat" tries to fight it, but he ends up tapping frantically as this one ends with a clear win for "The Nature Boy" after months of frustration which, as Tony and Mike both point out, has to feel pretty damn good for Flair after everything "The Cat" has put him through.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Ric Flair defeated "The Cat" at 10.36 by submission with the Figure Four Leglock ©</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="Z1DlA0N.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Z1DlA0N.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="waG19mm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/waG19mm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Gc4aCsx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Gc4aCsx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="dNLwm1L.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dNLwm1L.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> "Mean" Gene Okerlund is backstage again and this time he is with Chris Kanyon, who is joined by Stacy Keibler and Mike Awesome. Gene asks Kanyon about his match tonight against Bam Bam Bigelow, and about what role Stacy Keibler and Mike Awesome will play in that match. Kanyon says that as far as he knows it's still him and Bigelow one on one so he doesn't understand Gene's question. As for the match, Kanyon says that he is superior to Bam Bam Bigelow in every way and he'll prove that tonight. Gene tries to press Kanyon about Mike Awesome and Stacy Keibler's presence at ringside, but Kanyon just says that he doesn't need anyone's help to beat Bam Bam Bigelow here tonight. As the trio turn to leave, Stacy rolls her eyes at Gene before walking off, while Mike Awesome stares Gene down, intimidating him, and it is clearly working as Gene looks all manner of uncomfortable as we cut back to ringside just in time for Bam Bam Bigelow's entrance. <strong>©</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="lPwVnNo.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/lPwVnNo.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="waG19mm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/waG19mm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />w/<img alt="Gc4aCsx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Gc4aCsx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="dNLwm1L.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dNLwm1L.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Kanyon tries to lure Bigelow out of the ring early on in this one, but Bigelow knows better than to fall for a trick that is clearly designed to allow Mike Awesome an opportunity to get involved in the match. The match is an intense brawl, with Bigelow beating the heck out of Kanyon in the first few minutes of this one before Kanyon is able to buy himself some time by avoiding a Bigelow clothesline by dropping to the mat and pulling down the top rope, which sends Bigelow to the outside. Mike Awesome tries to sneak up on Bigelow, but Bigelow sees him coming and gets the first shot in before returning to the ring. The match continues back in the ring until Stacy Keibler gets up on the apron to draw the referee's attention. Mike Awesome, furious about Bigelow getting the better of him earlier, quickly enters the ring and shows off his impressive strength as he is able to hit the Awesome Bomb on Bigelow (the impact of which the referee is somehow not able to hear), and Awesome quickly rolls out of the ring again, his damage done. Kanyon then hits the Kanyon Kutter and this one is over as the numbers game once again gets the better of Bam Bam Bigelow.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Chris Kanyon defeated Bam Bam Bigelow at 8.17 by pinfall with the Kanyon Kutter after Mike Awesome got involved ©</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WCW Tag Team Championships</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="OQcwFPp.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OQcwFPp.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="epiwJ9r.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/epiwJ9r.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="tjPJopW.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/tjPJopW.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="rxMZSbm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rxMZSbm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="1S9VfKR.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/1S9VfKR.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> The second of four title matches here at Starrcade sees the Champions, Totally Buff, putting their titles on the line against Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo. As always, Luger and Bagwell stall for all they are worth, trying to get under the skin of their younger and far less experienced challengers. Bobby Heenan praises Totally Buff for this shrewd strategy, saying that O'Haire and Palumbo are a couple of hotheads who will end up defeating themselves by letting their frustration get the better of them. When the match finally does get underway, it is the Champions who take control by isolating Chuck Palumbo and using classic dirty tag team wrestling tactics, such as Luger choking Palumbo in the corner while Bagwell keeps the referee distracted. Palumbo tries to fight back, but every time the Champions are able to halt his momentum, most of the time by hook or crook. Third time turns out to be the charm for Palumbo, however, as he manages to fight off both Luger and Bagwell and get to his corner to make the hot tag to Sean O'Haire, who is completely fresh and has been stewing in the corner for several minutes, just itching to get into the ring. Now he finally does so, and he is cleaning house as both Luger and Bagwell are in the ring trying to fight him, but O'Haire is one step ahead of them. Chuck Palumbo rejoins the fight as well and now all four men are fighting it out in the ring--that is, until Palumbo clotheslines Bagwell, and himself, over the top rope, leaving O'Haire and Luger in the ring. "The Total Package" tries to get O'Haire up in the Torture Rack, but O'Haire is able to fight out of it, landing behind Luger. Luger then turns around right into a perfectly placed superkick to the jaw. Luger goes down in a heap, O'Haire quickly covers, and we have NEW WCW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo defeated Totally Buff at 11.37 by pinfall when O'Haire pinned Luger following a superkick. Tony Schiavone noes that, like them or not, Totally Buff have been the most dominant tag team in 2001, yet O'Haire and Palumbo just defeated them at the biggest event of the year. Does that mean that 2002 will be O'Haire and Palumbo's year? <strong>©</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> We swing by the announce table where Tony Schiavone informs us that coming up next is the Steel Cage match between "The Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett and "Macho Man" Randy Savage, adding that after tonight, Randy Savage will either be the number one contender to the World Heavyweight Championship...or he will be retired.</p><p> </p><p> A video then plays which highlights the long-standing issues between Savage and Jeff Jarrett, starting with the surprise return of Randy Savage to WCW at Bash At The Beach where he teamed up with the Insiders as their mystery third man. We see Savage winning the Tag Team Titles with Kevin Nash at New Blood Rising by defeating Totally Buff, then immediately we see the footage of Savage and Nash losing the Tag Team Titles back to Totally Buff two weeks later on Nitro, with Savage getting pinned following a guitar shot by Jeff Jarrett. Up next is footage from Fall Brawl where Jeff Jarrett defended the World Title against Randy Savage, with Jarrett winning the match by once again use his Acoustic Equalizer to get the job done. From there we move on to Halloween Havoc, where Randy Savage returned after having not been seen in WCW since Fall Brawl to prevent Jarrett from using his guitar in his World Title defense against Sting, which ultimately led to Sting picking up the win and becoming the World Champion. We also see footage of Savage defeating "The Total Package" Lex Luger at Mayhem, and then finally we see the confrontation between Jarrett and Savage on Nitro, which all finally led to the Steel Cage, World Title opportunity versus Career, match that is set to take place right here tonight at the biggest event of the year. </p><p> </p><p> As the video comes to an end, we rejoin Tony, Mike and Bobby at the announce table where Tony informs us that the Steel Cage match is coming up next here at Starrcade. <strong>(B)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> </p><p> <iframe width="200" height="200" src="<a href="https://www.youtube.com/embed/xUtCFh8TJxo" rel="external nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/embed/xUtCFh8TJxo"</a> frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe></p><p> <img alt="TTtujDA.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TTtujDA.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> "Macho Man" Randy Savage makes his way out from the back to a great ovation from the sold-out crowd as Tony plays up the fact that his could be the very last time that we see "Macho Man" Randy Savage heading to the ring for a match. Mike Tenay notes that Savage has been waiting for a long time to get his hands of Jarrett and tonight he finally gets Jarrett one on one--and he gets him in a Steel Cage where Luger and Bagwell can't get involved. Bobby Heenan acknowledges that Savage is one of the greatest of all time, but tonight he is going up against someone who should rightfully still be the World Champion, which means that tonight could easily be Savage's last match because Heenan doesn't believe that he has what it takes to beat Jeff Jarrett, who is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, in the business today.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <iframe width="200" height="200" src="<a href="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6PiGGMI12tE" rel="external nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/embed/6PiGGMI12tE"</a> frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe></p><p> <img alt="9umPviH.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/9umPviH.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> "The Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett makes his way out next to nothing but boos from the crowd. As Jarrett nears the ring, he looks up at the Steel Cage that hangs above the ring and an uneasy look crosses his face as Tony speculates that the reality of being locked inside a Steel Cage with "Macho Man" Randy Savage just dawned on Jeff Jarrett. Mike Tenay adds that not only will Jarrett be locked inside with Savage, but he'll be locked inside the Cage with a ticked off Randy Savage, thanks to Jarrett's own actions over the past weeks and months. Jarrett somewhat reluctantly gets into the ring, the Steel Cage is lowered down, trapping both men inside, and we are ready to get underway here.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Steel Cage Match - If Savage Wins, He Earns A Shot At The WCW World Heavyweight Championship. If Savage Loses, He Must Retire</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="TTtujDA.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TTtujDA.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="9umPviH.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/9umPviH.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> This one is deeply heated and deeply personal and Savage comes out swinging here as he goes after Jarrett as soon as the bell rings. Jarrett's first instinct is to run, but there is nowhere to run to thanks to the Steel Cage that encompasses the ring. This means that Jarrett is left with no choice but to try to survive the early onslaught from the "Macho Man", who is hammering away on Jarrett with a series of rapid punches. Savage then outright chokes Jarrett in the corner, showing exactly how heated things have gotten between these two men. Savage is all over Jarrett in the early parts of this one, and the only way Jarrett can buy himself a much needed break is by hitting a low blow to finally halt Savage's attack. Jarrett tries to go on the offensive, but Savage goes right back on the attack, grabbing Jarrett and launching him chest and head first into the side of the cage, prompting Mike Tenay to point out that the cage isn't just there to keep people out, or in, it can also be used quite effectively as a weapon, as Savage just demonstrated. Tony suggests that Savage should go for a pin attempt, but Savage doesn't appear to be interested in that right now--he wants to punish Jarrett. Savage hits a couple of inverted atomic drops, then hits a massive clothesline to take Jarrett off his feet. Savage then applies a sleeper hold in the middle of the ring, looking to wear Jarrett down.</p><p> </p><p> Jarrett is locked in the sleeper for a while, but he eventually manages to fight his way back to his feet and hit a desperation belly to back suplex to finally force Savage to break the hold. Jarrett struggles to get back to his feet and once again Savage beats him to the punch--only this time, Jarrett blatantly kicks Savage between the legs, drawing a ton of heat from the crowd in the process. Bobby Heenan quickly points out that there are no disqualifications in a Steel Cage match, so what Jarrett did is perfectly legal. The kick finally gives Jarrett a chance to get into the match as he controls the next several minutes. Jarrett bounces Savage's head off the top turnbuckle, and then it is Savage's turn to taste the steel as Jarrett launches him back-first into the cage. Jarrett puts the boots to Savage, then pulls him to his feet and drives his head into the steel cage. Jarrett hits a russian leg sweep and goes for the cover, but Savage is able to kick out. Jarrett goes for an irish whip, but Savage is able to counter it and he sends Jarrett chest-first into the turnbuckle, driving the air from his lungs. Savage then hits a belly to back suplex and goes for a cover of his own, but Jarrett kicks out after two.</p><p> </p><p> We are getting deeper into the match and the effects of the match are starting to show on both men as the pace of the match slows down and both men are looking worse for wear. The announcers put over just how brutal and grueling a Steel Cage match is, and it has clearly taken its toll on both men, as both are slow to get back to their feet now. Jarrett and Savage meet in the middle of the ring to exchange punches, and it is Savage who gets the upper hand as Mike Tenay notes that Jarrett probably doesn't want to trade punches with Savage because few men would come out on top of that situation. Savage appears to get his second wind as he strings together a series of moves, and then he scoop slams Jarrett in the middle and heads to the top rope. Savage leaps off the top rope, or as must as he can with the roof of the cage in his way, looking for the big Elbow Drop...but Jarrett rolls out of the way at the last moment to avoid potential disaster.</p><p> </p><p> Both men are back to their feet, but Jarrett now goes to work on Savage's right arm, which is still feeling the effects of missing the elbow drop moments ago. Savage is able to shove Jarrett into the ropes and he looks to score with a clothesline with his left arm, but Jarrett avoids it, grabs Savage and....JARRETT HITS THE STROKE!!!! Jarrett covers Savage and...</p><p> </p><p> 1....</p><p> </p><p> 2....</p><p> </p><p> ....3!!!--NOOO!!!</p><p> </p><p> The referee almost counted three, but he says two and a half. Savage just barely managed to kick out. Jarrett can't believe it, and he argues with the referee that it was a three count, but the referee maintains that it was a two count only. Jarrett is clearly frustrated, but he eventually gets back on track and applies the Figure Four Leglock, which draws a ton of boos for all kinds of reasons. Savage is clearly in a lot of pain, but "Macho Man" is refusing to submit as submitting would mean quitting on his career as well, as Tony Schiavone points out, and there is no way that Savage would ever quit on his career like that. Possibly realizing that Savage isn't going to submit, Jarrett releases the Figure Four and pulls a limping Savage back to his feet. Jarrett looks to score with another Stroke, but Savage is able to hit a desperation belly to back suplex which leaves both men down in the middle of the ring.</p><p> </p><p> Both men slowly get back to their feet and Jarrett charges, but Savage catches him with not one, not two, but three inverted atomic drops! Jarrett is clearly in a lot of pain here, and Savage takes advantage with a kick to the midsection and then he hits a piledriver! Savage doesn't go for the cover, however, but instead he heads to the top turnbuckle again, looking to land that one big elbow that would not only extend his career, but earn him a shot at the World Title as well. A weary Savage finally gets to the top and leaps...but for the second time in the match, Jarrett is able to roll out of the way at the very last second and Savage crashes and burns. Exhausted, Jarrett pulls himself up using the ropes for help, drags an equally exhausted Savage back to his feet as well and.....JARRETT HITS ANOTHER STROKE!!! An exhausted Jarrett leaves the ring, having just picked up a huge win, and after a while, Savage slowly gets to his feet as well. He does so to cheers from the crowd, who shows nothing but love and respect for Randy Savage's performance here tonight, as well as his career as a whole. An exhausted and emotional Savage acknowledges the fans as realization dawns on him, while Tony Schiavone informs everyone that he has just been told that Eric Bischoff will allow Randy Savage to appear on the first Monday Nitro of 2002 to say his goodbyes as his career sadly comes to an end. <strong>(B+)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="IJIxeY2.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IJIxeY2.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> As if the crowd wasn't already down after witnessing the end of "Macho Man" Randy Savage's career, Lance Storm makes his way out from the back once the ring has cleared out, getting nothing but boos from the crowd. Once in the ring... "If I can be serious for a minute"...Storm is visibly upset here and he complains about not being booked for the biggest event of the year. Storm says that he has been disrespected time and time again by this country, but he's not going to take it anymore. Storm says that when he finally got a fair chance on Nitro a few weeks ago, he immediately delivered by defeating Sting one on one, yet he is not even booked for Starrcade? Storm says that this company is biased against him, just like this country is, and--and that's when WCW owner Eric Bischoff's music hits! <strong>(B)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="sSiM1MW.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/sSiM1MW.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Eric Bischoff joins Storm in the ring, and he starts off by telling Storm that he actually agrees with him. Bischoff admits that Storm did deserve to have been booked in a match tonight, and that Storm belongs at Starrcade. Bischoff says that he doesn't want to disrespect Storm--in fact, he's got nothing but respect for Storm and he sees great things in his future. But as great a future as Storm has ahead of him, it will be even greater if he is smart and surrounds himself with the right kind of people...Bischoff then smirks as he adds "like the owner of the company!" Bischoff then extends his hand to Storm, and after considering it, Storm accepts and shakes Bischoff's hand! The announcers aren't quite sure what this means for the future, but apparently Lance Storm and Eric Bischoff have joined forces here at Starrcade. <strong>(B)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WCW Tag Team Championships Number One Contender's Elimination Match</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="9KBcilD.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/9KBcilD.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="DQd8EOs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/DQd8EOs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="A2H6UAI.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/A2H6UAI.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="4YiUXKD.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/4YiUXKD.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="wZXuh2C.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wZXuh2C.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="wsZRuyw.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wsZRuyw.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Tony Schiavone informs us at the beginning of this one that despite his best efforts, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan was apparently not able to find a tag team partner for tonight, which means that a fourth team will not be added to this one. The first few minutes of this one feature some fairly standard action, with KroniK dominating by using their size and strength advantage to take control. The Mamalukes immediately go on the offensive, and the next several minutes are filled with back and forth action, with both teams coming close to picking up the win. In the end, KroniK proves that, at least for tonight, and at least in this match, size matters as they hit their second High Times of the night, this time on Big Vito, and Brian Adams covers Vito and picks up the win while Bryan Clark prevents Johnny The Bull from breaking up the pin.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>KroniK defeated The Mamalukes and The Jung Dragons at 11.52 by pinfall when Brian Adams pinned Big Vito following a High Times after first eliminating the Jung Dragons. Rey kicks things off with a flurry of offense, but his momentum is quickly derailed when DDP plants him with a gutwrench powerbomb. Page tries to get the fans to cheer him, but he gets nothing but boos in return which prompts him to yell to Rey that this is his time, not Rey's. Page then hits a big time gutbuster and the challenger is firmly in control early on in this one. DDP remains in control as he irish whips Rey back-first into all four corners of the ring, one after the other, then finally takes Rey down with a discus clothesline. Page gets back to his feet, but instead of maybe throwing up the Diamond Cutter sign like he would have done in the past, Page instead just dusts his hands, mouthing that "it's over". Page gets Rey back to his feet, but is caught completely off guard when Rey suddenly launches another flurry of offense. Rey hits a series of kicks to the back of DDP's right leg, then takes him off his feet with a trio of arm drag takedowns, and then a headscissor takedown that finally keeps Page down on the mat. Rey then heads to the top rope and hits diving crossbody that scores him a near-fall, and he follows up with a tornado DDT that earns him another near-fall. Sensing that Page is both dazed and confused, Rey slips out onto the apron of the ring, lining DDP up for his Springboard Hurricanrana. Page turns around on wobbly legs, Rey leaps, looking for the Hurricanrana...but Page catches him and drives him into the mat with a nasty powerbomb--and Page holds on, pinning Rey's shoulders to the mat and grabbing himself a handful of tights in the process...1...2...3!!! We see footage of Nash and Booker fighting it out over the past several weeks on Nitro. We see Nash hitting the Jackknife Powerbomb on Booker T, and we see Booker T always coming back for more no matter how many times Nash has tried to ambush him. Bobby Heenan thinks that Booker T must be crazy to try to trade punches with Nash, which would probably normally hold true, but Booker is not only holding his own--he's actually winning the exchange as he drives Nash into the ropes. Booker then goes for the irish whip, Nash reverses, and then hits a big boot on Booker, taking Booker off his feet and buying himself some time to recover from Booker's early onslaught. The match spills out of the ring where "Big Sexy" takes advantage by the environment by sending Booker back-first into the guard rail, then bouncing his head off the apron of the ring. Back in the ring, Nash hits a big sidewalk slam and goes for the first cover of the match, but Booker kicks out at two. Nash then goes for the snake eyes, but Booker is able to slip out the back and Nash turns around right into a harlem sidekick. The match goes back and forth for the next several minutes, and both men pick up a couple of near-falls during this stretch of the match. After working Booker T over in the corner with a mix of elbow shots and knee strikes, Nash positions Booker on the middle rope and follows up with a leapfrog body guillotine. Booker staggers back to his feet and he walks right into another big time sidewalk slam. Nash covers, but Booker kicks out at two-and-a-half. Nash gets back to his feet and the straps come down as "Big Sexy" is looking to put this one away. Pulling Booker to his feet as well, Nash sends Booker into the ropes, looking to score with the big boot again, but Booker ducks the boot, kicks Nash in the midsection and HITS THE AXE KICK!!! It is a fairly recent issue that began when Scott Steiner become the number one contender to the World Hevyweight Championship after winning a three way dance at Mayhem, but in the weeks between Mayhem and tonight, "Big Poppa Pump" has put the World Champion in the Steiner Recliner on more than one occasion, and it seems that Steiner has had Sting's number. We see footage of the beatdowns that Sting has suffered at the hands of Scott Steiner, as well as his brother Rick's, and as we end the video with footage from this past week's edition of Monday Nitro where the main event ended in a wild brawl, this one obviously focusing on the brawl between Sting and Scott Steiner. <strong>(B-)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="Z1DlA0N.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Z1DlA0N.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="aiJ3oYx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/aiJ3oYx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="e0KbmYl.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/e0KbmYl.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="ijZDMft.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ijZDMft.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> As the video comes to an end, we cut backstage one final time tonight where "Mean" Gene Okerlund is standing by with "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner, along with Rick Steiner and Midajah. As Scott and company make their way to the ring, Tony, Mike and Bobby talk about the fact that no one has been more dominant than Scott Steiner over the last several months, and the question remains whether anyone can stop "Big Poppa Pump". Mike Tenay notes that Sting has seemingly been on the defensive so far against Scott, but if all of his years of experience has taught him anything, it is to never count Sting out. Bobby Heenan acknowledges that Sting is one of the greatest of all time, and that he's been a great champion, but he doesn't see anybody--not even Sting--beating Scott Steiner when Scott's at the top of his game, which he has been for a long time now.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <iframe width="200" height="200" src="<a href="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dvHPyfSLA_Q" rel="external nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/embed/dvHPyfSLA_Q"</a> frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe></p><p> <img alt="7PSSM69.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7PSSM69.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> "Seek and Destroy" hits to bring out the World Champion, who receives a standing ovation from the sold-out crowd. As Sting makes his way to the ring, showing no signs of hesitation whatsoever, Tony Schiavone points out that nobody has been better at beating the odds throughout his career than Sting, bringing up the glory days of WCW (though he obviously doesn't call them that) when Sting was WCW's only hope against the nWo. Mike Tenay agrees, saying that if anybody can beat Scott Steiner right now, it would probably be Sting. But how much damage has the attacks by Scott Steiner over these last several weeks done to Sting? Once in the ring, Sting howls at the crowd, who respond in kind, and we are about ready to get things started here.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WCW World Heavyweight Championship</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="Sk5LgZj.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Sk5LgZj.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="7PSSM69.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7PSSM69.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="aiJ3oYx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/aiJ3oYx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />w/<img alt="e0KbmYl.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/e0KbmYl.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="ijZDMft.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ijZDMft.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> As soon as the bell rings Scott Steiner charges across the ring, forces Sting into the corner and starts going to work with some brutal punches that puts the Champion on the defensive right from the get-go. Steiner hits a trio of Steinerlines, but every time Sting gets back up to his feet--that is, until Scott takes him down with a belly to belly suplex. Scott appears to be going for an early cover, but instead he rolls off Sting and starts doing push-ups, telling the referee that he'll tell him when to count. Steiner remains in control for the next several minutes, looking every bit as dominant tonight as he has been for the past several months. As the fans rally behind Sting, the Champion tries to mount a comeback, stinging together a series of punches and kicks, but Sting gets too close to the ropes and Rick Steiner grabs hold of his leg from outside, distracting Sting and allowing Scott to regain control as he grabs Sting from behind and plants him with a release german suplex. The referee issues a warning to "The Dog-faced Gremlin" about getting involved in the match, but while he is doing so, Scott is hammering Sting with punches to the head in the ring, prompting Tony Schiavone to complain loudly that this wasn't supposed to be a handicap match yet that is exactly what it is turning into.</p><p> </p><p> Sting is finally able to get some offense in after he ducks two Steinerline attempts by Scott, then catches him with a standing dropkick. Sting hits another dropkick as Scott gets back to his feet, and then he follows it up with an inverted atomic drop before slamming Steiner face-first into the mat with a one handed bulldog. Scott rolls out of the ring to regroup with his brother, but Sting vaults himself over the top rope to take out both Steiner Brothers with a diving crossbody! Sting gets Scott back in the ring and goes for the cover, but Steiner is able to kick out at two. Sting howls at the ring and then he goes for the Scorpion Deathlock, which immediately brings Midajah up on the apron to grab the referee's attention while Rick Steiner enters the ring and clobbers Sting from behind. Rick rolls back out of the ring and Scott regains control by hitting various suplexes, at times almost making the Champion look like a rag doll as he gets thrown around the ring, making both Tony and Mike wonder how long Sting will be able to take this kind of punishment. "Not long" Bobby Heenan concludes, but Sting isn't done just yet as he unloads on Steiner with a series of punches, but when he bounces himself off the ropes he ends up running right into another belly to belly suplex from "Big Poppa Pump". Scott covers, but Sting still has enough left in the tank to kick out after two.</p><p> </p><p> We are getting deep into the match now and even though Steiner has been in control for most it of, he has been unable to put Sting away and the frustration is starting to get to him as he is arguing with, and yelling at, the referee far more frequently. Scott finally tells the referee to shut the hell up and do his job, and then he looks to apply the Steiner Recliner...but Sting is ready for him and he catches him by surprise with an inside cradle...</p><p> </p><p> 1...</p><p> </p><p> 2...</p><p> </p><p> ...NO!!! Scott kicks out at two-and-a-half.</p><p> </p><p> Scott is furious as he gets back to his feet, but Sting beats him to the punch with a pair of inverted atomic drops and a neckbreaker. Once again, Midajah draws the referee's attention, allowing Rick Steiner to get involved in the match. "The Dog-faced Gremlin" charges at Sting, but Sting ducks, spins and clotheslines Rick over the top rope and out of the ring! While the referee is busy sending Rick to the back after getting involved in the match again, Midajah slips the lead pipe to Scott and then she enters the ring to get Sting's attention. It works, or so it seems, but when Scott tries to ambush Sting, Sting is more than ready for him, blocking the pipe and laying into Steiner with some right hands. Midajah picks up the lead pipe and it looks like she is planning to hit Sting with it, but Sting moves out of the way and Midajah almost ends up nailing Steiner with it, though she is able to stop herself just short of doing so. The whole thing provides a momentary distraction for Scott, however, as he realizes how close he was to just getting hit by his own weapon, and Sting takes advantage of the moment as he suddenly grabs Scott from behind and...SCORPION DEATHDROP!!! During his match with "The Cat", it was obvious that Ric Flair was not giving it his all in the ring and that he was, by and large, "phoning it in". The match was still decent, all things considered, but considering it was supposed to be the big payoff in what has been a lengthy feud between the two, management was said to be less than thrilled with Flair's antics during the match. Flair had been unhappy ever since he was asked to lose to Rey Misterio Jr. earlier this year, but it seemed that the situation was under control until Flair's sudden and surprising actions at Starrcade, which caught management by surprise. </p><p> </p><p> In other news, the so called "End Of The Year" awards have been handed out--sadly without a single honor going to World Championship Wrestling. <p>The results of the prediction contest are (finally) in and the winner this time around is...</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Crackerjack with 33 hits</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

Closely followed by Satyr24 with 32 hits</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

And Beejus takes third place with 29 hits</strong></p><p> </p><p>

So Crackerjack takes home the win and the main prize, though minor prizes will be sent out to Satyr24 and Beejus as well. You can expect to receive them soon.</p><p> </p><p>

Also, after a bit of time away from this, I'm back and the card for the first Nitro of 2002 will be going up momentarily.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Edit: Forgot to add the Starrcade bonus question answers:</p><p> </p><p>

Lowest rated match of the night was Chris Kanyon vs. Bam Bam Bigelow</p><p> </p><p>

Longest match of the night was Jeff Jarrett vs. Randy Savage</p><p> </p><p>

Shortest match of the night was Chris Kanyon and Bam Bam Bigelow</p><p> </p><p>

<p>I really liked Starrcade! The stage seems set for some changes to the dynamic of WCW now that you've reached 2002, but the first one I can see coming is Jeff Jarrett going after Sting again. Now that he has retiring Randy out of the way, it only seems right.</p><p> </p><p>

Ernest Miller - <em>Kind of a way to thank him for putting up with Ric's antics at Starrcade.</em></p><p>

Stasiak and Jindrak - <em>They took a big loss at Starrcade, this should help put the Invaders back on the map again.</em></p><p>

Cash - <em>Cash cheating to win here could give him a new feud against Billy.</em></p><p>

Once the boos fade out, Bischoff wishes everyone a happy new year, then says that while 2001 was by and large a good year after WCW was saved, 2002 is going to be an even better year. Bischoff says that one year ago everyone was sure that WCW was going out of business by the end of the year at the latest, but look at the company now; Starrcade was a huge success, and WCW is once again the place to be in the world of professional wrestling. Bischoff vows that WCW will only go from strength to strength in 2002, starting tonight with the very first show of the year. And speaking of the future, Bischoff then brings out someone he calls one of the stars of WCW's future; Lance Storm!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="IJIxeY2.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IJIxeY2.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> As Lance Storm makes his way out from the back, Tony Schiavone quickly introduces the show and recaps the events that went down between Bischoff and Storm at Starrcade, with the two seemingly joining forces following a handshake, and Tony speculates that we'll find out what that was all about in a few moments. Storm joins Bischoff in the ring, gets on the mic and... "If I can be serious for a minute..." Storm begins by running down America as usual, but then adds that he entered into the agreement he did with Eric Bischoff hoping that Bischoff will prove to be the exception to the rule when it comes to Americans in general. This draws more boos from the crowd, and a distusted looking Storm is about to continue, but then he is suddenly interrupted by... <strong>(B)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="xeqPtl1.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/xeqPtl1.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Dustin Rhodes, who makes his way to the ring to a decent reaction from the crowd. Rhodes says that Storm isn't the only one around here who is looking for an opportunity, and while Rhodes wants nothing to do with any sort of alliance with Eric Bischoff, he does want Storm in the ring one on one to see if he's really as good as he thinks he is. Rhodes says that Storm clearly has issues with this country, but Rhodes is as American as you can get, which means that Storm must have a problem with him as well. Things get tense, but then Eric Bischoff steps in and tells Rhodes to back off and that he'll get his chance to prove himself just like everybody else will on the level playing field that is WCW. Bischoff then tells Rhodes to go get ready because he's got a match coming up later tonight! As Rhodes slowly leaves the ring, Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Bobby Heenan hype up the fact that it looks like 2002 is going to be the year of opportunity for everyone in WCW. <strong>(C+)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="Z1DlA0N.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Z1DlA0N.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="yjZhkPT.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/yjZhkPT.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> We cut to the back where "Mean" Gene Okerlund is with the new Cruiserweight Champion, Chavo Guerrero Jr. Chavo corrects Gene though, saying that at Starrcade he proved that he is not "junior" in any way, so from now on his name is simply Chavo Guerrero and Gene will address him as such. Chavo says that while 2001 ended on a high note for him, 2002 is going to be his year--just like 2003, 2004, 2005 and so on and so on because Chavo Guerrero is finally--</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="TqDQ0Kz.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TqDQ0Kz.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="YJdjdt3.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/YJdjdt3.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> and that's when Billy Kidman, the former Cruiserweight Champion, and Torrie Wilson walk up to Chavo and Gene. Kidman says that what Chavo was saying sounded impressive, but he's forgetting one thing; he never beat him for the title--and every time they have faced one on one...Chavo has lost. This sours Chavo's mood considerably, but he eventually brushes it off, saying that Kidman is just jealous because he knows he is the past and Chavo Guerrero is the future. Kidman says that they'll see about that, reminding Chavo that he's got a guaranteed rematch coming up at Sin. Kidman and Torrie then walk off, leaving the new Cruiserweight Champion fuming. <strong>©</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="wZXuh2C.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wZXuh2C.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="wsZRuyw.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wsZRuyw.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="SvNacxY.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/SvNacxY.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="7bFbOrf.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7bFbOrf.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> The first match of 2002 features two teams who were unsuccessful at Starrcade as The Mamalukes square off against Shawn Stasiak and Mark Jindrak. Tony and Mike are both surprised that Mike Sanders isn't accompanying Jindrak and Stasiak tonight, but the action in the ring soon distracts them from that fact. This is a decent back and forth match between two teams who could easily play a big part in the tag team division in the coming year, but in the end it is Jindrak and Stasiak who rebound from their loss at Starrcade with a victory here tonight as Jindrak hits the Mark Of Perfection on Big Vito and secures the three count as Johnny The Bull is a split second too late in breaking up the pin attempt.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak defeated The Mamalukes at 9.53 by pinfall when Jindrak pinned Vito following a Mark Of Perfection (C-)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="Z1DlA0N.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Z1DlA0N.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="DQd8EOs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/DQd8EOs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="9KBcilD.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/9KBcilD.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> "Mean" Gene Okerlund is hard at work tonight, as usual, and this time he is backstage with The Jung Dragons. <p>I really like this teaming of Eric and Storm, though it looks like perhaps Bischoff has just moved on from Jarrett and Totally Buff? The fatal four way at Sin sounds like it should be really good though, not sure if Sting is going to be able to keep going through those odds but I hope he can keep on hanging on!</p><p> </p><p>

This is a good match between two men who are both looking to make 2002 their year, and that desire shows here as they go back and forth in what is a very competitive match. Still, only one man can pick up the win and that man ends up being Dustin Rhodes, who pins "The Franchise" after connecting with a Running Bulldog as he bounces back with a win after losing to "The Cat" last week on Nitro thanks to Lance Storm.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Dustin Rhodes defeated Shane Douglas at 9.43 by pinfall with a Running Bulldog (B-)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Having won the match, Dustin Rhodes gets on the mic and calls out Lance Storm and Eric Bischoff, saying that he's got a few words for them about Storm's cowardly sneak attack last week. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="sSiM1MW.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/sSiM1MW.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> A smirking Eric Bischoff makes his way out from the back and he arrogantly reminds Rhodes that he doesn't call the shots around here, Bischoff does.
