This week's edition of WCW Monday Nitro kicks off with Booker T coming down to the ring while the announcers, Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Bobby Heenan, talk about what happened last week with Kevin Nash turning his back on Booker T after their match against the Steiner Brothers. Once in the ring, Booker gets on the mic and says that he always knew Kevin Nash was a backstabber but until last week he never would have thought that he was a coward. Booker then calls Nash out, telling Nash to come out and face him--if he's got the guts to be a man this week because he clearly didn't last week! Booker then stands in the ring waiting, and after a few moments...(B+)

The Wolfpac music hits and "Big Sexy" slowly makes his way out from the back. In no particular rush, Nash eventually joins Booker in the ring and the tension between the two of them is obvious after Nash left Booker at the mercy of "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner last week on Nitro. Nash says that he signed on to be Booker's partner last week during the match, but he never signed on to be his buddy and he sure as hell didn't sign on to be his protector. Nash says that if Booker can't handle himself then maybe he should reconsider his career choice, adding that he's heard that the local beauty salon is looking for a sweeper. Booker steps up to Nash and the two men come face to face, but then the familiar sirens hit and out from the back comes...(B+)

"Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner, along with "The Dog-faced Gremlin" Rick Steiner and Midajah. The trio remain at the top of the entrance ramp as Scott tells Nash and Booker to shut the hell up because nobody wants to hear the two of them bitch like a pair of schoolgirls who didn't get invited to the prom. Scott says that he's the man with the largest arms in the world, he's "The Genetic Freak" and at Mayhem he's gonna beat both of them to the point where they'll be begging him to stop. But Scott says that he and his brother were talking and they decided they aren't gonna wait for Mayhem--they are gonna get some of Nash and Booker tonight! Scott then drops the mic and the Steiner Brothers approach the ring as a fight is brewing here. Nash and Booker ready themselves in the ring, but before the Steiner Brothers get to the ring, Nash suddenly attacks Booker from behind and lays him out with the Jackknife Powerbomb! Nash then leaves the ring, leaving Booker at the mercy of the Steiner Brothers again and as Scott applies the Steiner Recliner on Booker for the second straight week, Tony Schiavone exclaims that Kevin Nash just stabbed Booker T in the back! (A)

Kevin Nash completed his heel turn in this segment and the turn was a complete success

Tony Schiavone and "The Professor" Mike Tenay are still shaking their heads over what we just witnessed in the ring moments ago as we swing by the announce table, while Bobby "The Brain" Heenan doesn't seem particularly bothered at all. Tony switches the focus to tonight's main event as Diamond Dallas Page returns to Monday Nitro to challenge Rey Misterio Jr. for the WCW United States Championship. Mike Tenay says that if Rey can somehow knock off DDP tonight, he will cement himself as, perhaps, one of the top United States Champions of all time. Tony agrees, and then he sends us back down to the ring for our opening bout. (C+)

Cash faces off against Lash Leroux in our first match of the night and this is all about Cash as he controls the majority of the match while the announcers hype up his skill and potential, with Mike Tenay calling Cash a "guaranteed future Cruiserweight Champion" in his book. Cash picks up the win in this one after hitting his Dead Level brainbuster to secure the pinfall.

Cash defeated Lash Leroux at 2.47 by pinfall with the Dead Level (D)

"Mean" Gene Okerlund is backstage with Mike Sanders, Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak. Gene asks them about their actions in recent weeks, but Sanders says that he would much rather talk about the future because he's got a little bit of a challenge--two challenges, actually. Sanders then proceeds to challenge Billy Kidman to put the Cruiserweight Championship on the line against him at Mayhem, and he challenges the winner of tonight's United States Championship title match to put the title on the line against Mark Jindrak at Mayhem. Sanders says that they are here to make a name for themselves and they'll step over anyone and everyone to get what they want. ©

"The Nature Boy" Ric Flair and Miss Jones are backstage in Eric Bischoff's office and Flair makes it clear to Bischoff that he wants "The Cat" in the ring at Mayhem. Miss Jones questions whether that is really necessary, saying maybe they could just try to talk to "The Cat" one more time, but Flair says that after everything "The Cat" has done to both of them, the time for talking is over. Ric says that the only way "The Cat" is going to learn anything is if he teaches him some respect. Miss Jones reluctantly agrees with Flair, and Bischoff says that as much as he hates giving Flair anything, he doesn't have a problem booking the match. Ric Flair versus "The Cat" is officially set for Mayhem. (C+)

This is an intense, hard-hitting matchup that sees two big, strong men beating the heck out of each other in the middle of the ring. With Chuck Palumbo, Chris Kanyon and Stacy Keibler all at ringside, the referee has his work cut out for him as he tries to keep everything under control. He does an admirable job of this for a while, but in the end things start to break down and amidst the confusion, Chris Kanyon gets a cheap shot in on O'Haire. This leads to Chuck Palumbo chasing Kanyon around the ring, but Stacy Keibler positions herself between Palumbo and Kanyon to end the chase. Using this distraction, Kanyon tries to get another cheap shot in on O'Haire, but this time the referee catches him in the act and this one ends by disqualification.

Sean O'Haire defeated Mike Awesome at 8.12 by disqualification when Chris Kanyon got involved (C+)

The match may be over but the fight is not as Kanyon and Awesome go toe to toe with Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo. O'Haire and Palumbo gain the upper hand this time as they drive Kanyon and Awesome from the ring. As Kanyon and Awesome regroup with Stacy Keibler halfway up the entrance ramp, O'Haire and Palumbo stand tall in the ring, motioning for Kanyon and Awesome to come back into the ring to get some more, but Stacy is not about to let her clients charge back into that situation here tonight. (C-)

We cut to the back where "Mean" Gene Okerlund is standing by with the WCW United States Champion, Rey Misterio Jr., the WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Billy Kidman, and Torrie Wilson. Gene asks Rey and Kidman about the challenges that were issued earlier tonight by Mike Sanders, and Rey and Kidman both say that they accept the challenge, though Rey does make sure to say that he obviously can't speak for DDP, but if Rey is still the United States Champion after tonight, he'll accept the challenge. But they also have a challenge of their own; Mike Sanders, Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak versus Rey, Kidman and a third partner of their choosing next week on Nitro! Gene notes that Rey and Kidman have accepted the challenge, but will Sanders, Jindrak and Stasiak do the same? (D+)

We've got ourselves another hard-hitting matchup here as Hugh Morrus and Road Warrior Animal face off against KroniK in tag team action. This is a good brawl with all four men getting their moments to shine in what is a very competitive match in which the advantage swings back and forth throughout. In the end, it is KroniK who picks up the win when...

KZ3THeU.jpg

Mike Sanders suddenly appears at ringside and he jumps onto the apron to distract Hugh Morrus. Road Warrior Animal gives chase, but that just leaves Hugh all alone against KroniK and he falls victim to their High Times double chokeslam, which secures them the victory.

KroniK defeated Hugh Morrus and Road Warrior Animal at 7.12 by pinfall when Brian Adams pinned Hugh Morrus following a High Times after Mike Sanders got involved (C+)

t5bgsE2.jpgsSiM1MW.jpg

Following the match we cut to the back where "The Cat" is in Eric Bischoff's office and he is none too happy about Bischoff booking him in a match against Ric Flair at Mayhem. Bischoff doesn't much care what "The Cat" thinks, saying that the match is booked and "The Cat" has got no one to blame but himself for the fact that Flair wants to face him. "The Cat" leaves the office vowing to make "that old fossil" regret this for the rest of his days. (C+)

Z1DlA0N.jpgYiAV5xv.jpg

Elsewhere in the back, "Mean" Gene Okerlund is with "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash and Gene asks Nash about his actions earlier tonight, turning on Booker T. Nash says that he's not responsible for what happens to Booker T. He says that Booker is not his buddy--he's an obstacle standing between him and the World Title. Gene starts to ask his next question, but then...

O6ChwMw.jpg

Booker T suddenly yells at Nash off-camera, and a few seconds later he and Nash are brawling through the backstage area. A small army of referees and members of the security staff arrive on the scene to attempt to break it up, but it is easier said than done when two men of this size are hellbent on beating the hell out of each other. Nash and Booker are eventually separated but, as Tony notes, no one is going to pull them apart in two weeks at Mayhem when they face each other, and Scott Steiner, for a shot at the World Title. (B-)

xeqPtl1.jpgvs.mF3JVeI.jpg

Dustin Rhodes faces off against Fit Finlay next and this is a solid match that sees Finlay take control early on and dominate Rhodes with his physical style, not allowing Rhodes a moment's rest. But Dustin is able to mount a big comeback and, in the end, it is Rhodes who picks up the win after avoiding a Finlay clothesline in the corner, then quickly following up with a Running Bulldog and a one, two, three.

Dustin Rhodes defeated Fit Finlay at 10.23 by pinfall with a Running Bulldog (C+)

Lance Storm makes his way to the ring and he is, unsurprisingly, not in a good mood, saying that one more week, one more show that isn't main evented by the most skilled wrestler in the company. Storm says that he's from Calgary, Alberta, Canada and that, by definition, that makes him better than Americans. But he is also set apart by his superior skill, his superior intelligence, his superior work ethic--

wNECq63.jpg

And that's when BG James' music hits and BG makes his way out from the back. Remaining at the top of the entrance ramp, BG says that nobody wants to hear Storm run his mouth, and he's not gonna stand by and listen to Storm run down this great country. BG then challenges Storm to a rematch at Mayhem, telling Storm to prove his superiority in the ring rather than just talk about it. Storm points out that he has already proven it, but says that he'll do it again at Mayhem--but when he wins, BG James has to stand in this very ring, in front of the whole world, and admit that to everyone watching that he, an American, is inferior in every way to Lance Storm, a Canadian. BG James accepts the challenge and we've got another match set for Mayhem! (C-)

GHRyeKg.jpg

In the back, Vampiro is standing in a darkened room along with the someone else who we can't quite make out as his face and body are hidden in the darkness. Vampiro is talking directly to the camera, saying that the darkness that threatened to consume his apprentice has now been accepted and embraced and, instead of devouring him, the darkness has revilatized him. He has been born anew as the first of Vampiro's Dark Disciples and soon that darkness will spread across World Championship Wrestling, leaving nothing but hopelessness and despair in its wake for those who cannot embrace it. (B-)

The Chosen Ones make their way to the ring and once there, Jeff Jarrett gets on the mic and says that he's got an announcement to make. He reminds everyone that he's the one with all the stroke around here and as such, he's the one who gets to decide who Randy Savage faces at Mayhem. Jarrett again claims that he'd love nothing more than to face Savage himself and make him pay for screwing him over, but since he'll be busy winning back the World Title, he's just gonna have to let someone else have the honor. And that someone else is going to be..."The Total Package" Lex Luger! "Double J" then hands the mic to Luger, who says that Randy Savage made the biggest mistake of his life when he got on their bad side and now "The Total Package" is going to make him regret it at Mayhem! (B+)

TTtujDA.jpg

"Macho Man" Randy Savage's music hits and Savage is out from the back to interrupt The Chosen Ones. Savage says that contrary to what they are saying, he wasn't the one who made a mistake--the mistake was made by Jeff Jarrett when he took the low road to retain the World Title against the "Macho Man". Savage says that he'll go through anyone and everyone it takes to get Jeff Jarrett in the ring one more time, and if that means Luger at Mayhem...then so be it.

Suddenly, "Seek and Destroy" hits and the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Sting, makes his way out from the back to a great reaction and he joins Savage at the top of the entrance ramp. Sting gets on the mic and says that everyone knows that Jarrett screwed Savage out of his World Title shot just like he's screwed everyone else over, and Sting admits that if it wasn't for Savage, maybe he would have fallen victim to Jarrett's antics as well at Halloween Havoc. Jarrett interrupts Sting, saying that if Sting is so eager to stick his nose into his busness, how about he put his money where his mouth is; Sting and Savage versus The Chosen Ones next week on Nitro! Sting and Savage briefly confer with each other, and then they accept the challenge! We've got a huge match set for next week's Monday Nitro! (A)

It is almost main event time but before we get to that, we cut backstage where the Steiner Brothers are standing by along with Midajah. The reason is that "The Dog-faced Gremlin" has a challenge of his own to issue; He wants Booker T in the ring one on one next week on Monday Nitro. As Rick begins barking, Scott takes over, saying that Rick is gonna finish what he started tonight, and then "Big Poppa Pump" will take care of Nash at Mayhem. (B)

Two fan favorites, one a bigger star than the other, go at it in the main event with the WCW United States Championship on the line in what Tony Schiavone calls a pay per view event worthy matchup. Diamond Dallas Page hasn't been seen following his defeat at the hands of "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner at Halloween Havoc, but Page looks like he has fully recovered from the after-effects of that brutal feud as he waste no time taking control of this match by using his superior size and strength to his advantage. Mike Tenay notes that this is not only smart strategy by DDP--it's also crucial for him to control the pace of the match and keep Rey Misterio Jr. grounded if he wants to walk out of here tonight as the new United States Champion. That is easier said than done, however, as many have learned first hand over the past months, and Rey is eventually able to quicken the pace of the match, which immediately puts the veteran DDP at a disadvantage. Page struggles to keep up with the quickness of Misterio, who scores several near-falls during this stretch of the match. DDP isn't a former multiple time World Champion for nothing, however, and he is able to catch Rey with a big discus clothesline when Rey attempts a springboard move, instantly putting himself in control again. The finish of the match comes when DDP first signals for the Diamond Cutter, then hooks Rey and looks to deliver his trademark move...but Rey is able to avoid it! Rey bounces off the ropes, only to run head-first into a boot from DDP. Page then hooks Rey up for a huge spinning powerbomb, but Rey fires off a series of quick right hands, then slides down DDP's back and rolls him up...1...2...3!

Rey Misterio Jr. defeated Diamond Dalls Page at 17.29 by pinfall with a surprise roll-up. Rey Misterio Jr. retains the WCW United States Championship (B-)

What was a very competitive main event has come to an end and the Champion has retained his title. Diamond Dallas Page remains sitting on the floor in disbelief that Rey was able to pin him with the surprise roll-up, but after shaking off the disappointed, Page shows himself a class act as he gets to his feet and raises Rey's arm in victory in a great show of sportsmanship as Monday Nitro comes to an end. Show Notes

After a couple of quiet weeks there were a few noteworthy events that took place prior to this week's Monday Nitro.

Mike Sanders surprised several members of the locker room by organizing a poker tournament, which was quite well received backstage.

And Diamond Dallas Page was again overheard giving advice to James Storm on Johnny Swinger. While neither man plays a particularly big role in WCW at the moment, if they keep listening to DDP's advice, that could easily change in the future.

<p>Mayhem looks like it's going to live up to it's name, can't wait to see what we are heading into next!</p><p> </p><p>

Sting - <em>I can't really see you only giving Sting a month with the belt, though I guess WCW 2000 would have only seen him hold it for an hour, so I won't be shocked if the title goes back to Jarrett here thanks to Eric and TB. But you're not spastic, so I'm going to stick with Sting.</em></p><p>

Kevin Nash - <em>The heel turn should have netted him a ton of great momentum, so I'd be willing to see Nash vs. Sting at Starrcade. Won't be surprised to see someone help him get it... after all, I'm sure he can find some other people who used to be "4 Life" who would be willing to rejoin his side.</em></p><p>

Randy Savage - <em>Randy looks strong as he heads on to Starrcade to face Jarrett... or maybe he'll find a way to face Bischoff, which would be a very fun Starrcade bout!</em></p><p>

Rey Misterio - <em>As much as I like Jindrak, I just can't see him grabbing the US title. Not when it's doing the whole "workhorse title" gig with Rey.</em></p><p>

Kanyon and Awesome - <em>Complete toss-up, but I could see these guys picking up gold very soon while O'Haire and Palumbo could be spitting any time. Not that you've set them up for splitting, but they (or just Sean) are clearly set for singles success, so you could split them at any point and it will make sense.</em></p><p>

Ric Flair - <em>Likely by count out or DQ as Cat bails on the match.</em></p><p>

Mike Sanders - <em>Totally pulling for the underdog here, but it will give the "invaders" more logical reasons to still be showing up every week.</em></p><p>

Lance Storm - <em>If you're buckling down on the "Canada is better" schtick, then this is the time to really push it over the edge. Flag match next month?</em></p>

Jindrak is accompanied to the ring by Shawn Stasiak, which once again puts the Champion at a distinct disadvantage because, as Mike Tenay points out, Rey knows that he cannot allow himself to forget about Stasiak even for a moment, which is tough to do when you also have to contend with Mark Jindrak. This is a solid opening bout that sees Rey fire off an early flurry of offense, but he gets slowed down by a timely distraction by Shawn Stasiak which allows Mark Jindrak to take control. The next several minutes are basically a two on one situation, with Stasiak getting involved every time Jindrak draws the referee's attention away from Rey. This continues until Rey is able to turn the tables, leading to Jindrak accidentally colliding with Stasiak and sending him to the floor. Rey kicks things into high gear, attacking Jindrak from all sides and angles and building up a ton of momentum in the process. Rey even connects with his Springboard Hurricanrana and the referee might have counted the one-two-three, had it not been for Shawn Stasiak breaking up the pin, causing the match to end by disqualification instead.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rey Misterio Jr. defeated Mark Jindrak at 12.05 by disqualification when Shawn Stasiak got involved. There is also a price to pay for Rey as Shawn Stasiak and Mark Jindrak attack him again after the match. They do a number on him and it doesn't look like they are planning to stop any time soon, but thankfully...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="qc8WHPD.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qc8WHPD.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Diamond Dallas Page is out from the back and he hits the ring and helps Rey fight off both Invaders! With Jindrak and Stasiak retreating back up the ramp, Page checks on Rey while Tony and Mike both praise DDP for doing the right thing here tonight....AND THAT'S WHEN DDP HITS THE DIAMOND CUTTER ON REY MISTERIO JR!!!???! The crowd is absolutely stunned as DDP just turned on Rey Misterio Jr. and laid him out with a Diamond Cutter out of nowhere, and even the announcers are left wondering "why" as Page holds up the Diamond Cutter sign above a down-and-out US Champion. <strong>(B-)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><em>Diamond Dallas Page turned heel here and the turn was a complete success</em></p></div><p></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="Z1DlA0N.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Z1DlA0N.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="YiAV5xv.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/YiAV5xv.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Following that shocking turn of events to kick off Mayhem, we cut to the back where "Mean" Gene Okerlund is standing by with "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash. Gene asks Nash about his match later tonight against Booker T and Scott Steiner for a future shot at the World Title. Nash, seeming chilled and relaxed as only "Big Sexy" can, says that if you watched Nitro last Monday you know exactly what's gonna happen here tonight because it'll be the same thing; "Big Sexy" standing tall in the middle of the ring with Booker T and Scotty Steiner laid out at his feet. After that, he'll head straight to Starrcade, the biggest show of the year, and pick himself up another World Championship. <strong>(B-)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="rxMZSbm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rxMZSbm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="1S9VfKR.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/1S9VfKR.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="waG19mm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/waG19mm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Gc4aCsx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Gc4aCsx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />w/<img alt="dNLwm1L.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dNLwm1L.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Tag team action is up next as Chris Kanyon and Mike Awesome face off against Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo in a match that Mike Tenay calls "a battle between two future Tag Team Championship teams". Bobby "The Brain" Heenan tries to persuade either Tenay or Schiavone to make a bet on which team will become Tag Team Champions first, with Bobby going with Kanyon and Awesome, but Tony and Mike both turn him down--which prompts Bobby to comment that Tony and Mike are smarter than they look because they would be foolish to bet against "The Brain". Despite O'Haire and Palumbo still being a bit rough around the edges, this is a good match with plenty of back and forth action throughout, and both teams look exactly like what Mike Tenay called them; future Tag Team Champions. Stacy Keibler makes her presence felt by distracting the referee, arguing with him while Chris Kanyon lands a low blow on Chuck Palumbo to put themselves in control of the match. The "usual" tag team strategy of isolating one opponent, in this case Chuck Palumbo, doesn't work here, however, as Palumbo is able to fight his way out of the corner and get to O'Haire to make the tag. </p><p> </p><p> This turns out to be the theme of the match as neither team can gain control for very long at the time, which Mike Tenay attributes to the fact that both teams are so evenly matched, but he also wonders if perhaps the experience factor is going to come into play, which should favor Kanyon and Awesome given they have more years of experience than their opponents. Things finally break down, as tag matches tend to do, and Chuck Palumbo clotheslines Mike Awesome, and himself, over the top rope and outside the ring, leaving Sean O'Haire and Chris Kanyon alone in the ring. Sensing his opportunity, Kanyon goes on the offensive and tries to catch O'Haire with the Kanyon Kutter, but it is O'Haire who catches Kanyon by surprise with a superkick instead!</p><p> </p><p> Kanyon goes down hard as O'Haire got all of the kick, and then O'Haire starts climbing the turnbuckle. Stacy tries to get to him in time to try and stop him, but O'Haire leaps and hits the Seanton Bomb perfectly on Kanyon. O'Haire covers and picks up the three count and a huge win himself and Chuck Palumbo here at Mayhem.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo defeated Chris Kanyon and Mike Awesome at 16.50 by pinfall when O'Haire pinned Kanyon following a Seanton Bomb (B-)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="aiJ3oYx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/aiJ3oYx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="e0KbmYl.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/e0KbmYl.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="ijZDMft.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ijZDMft.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> We cut backstage where "Team Steiner", Scott, Rick and Midajah, are standing in front of the camera. There is no Gene Okerlund in sight for this one as Scott does the talking here, saying that "Big Daddy Bitch" may have gotten the jump on him last Monday but tonight it's gonna be the "Big Bad Booty Daddy" who gets the jump on Nash, just like he gets the jump on all his freaks (whatever that means, exactly). Scott continues by saying that he's gonna tear Nash and Booker apart tonight and that the World Title is as good as his already. <strong>(B)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="Z1DlA0N.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Z1DlA0N.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="epiwJ9r.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/epiwJ9r.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="tjPJopW.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/tjPJopW.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Elsewhere in the back, "Mean" Gene Okerlund is presen and he is standing by with the WCW Tag Team Champions, "The Total Package" Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell, and Gene asks Luger about his match later tonight here at Mayhem against "Macho Man" Randy Savage. Luger says that he is honored that Jeff Jarrett picked him to take care of Randy Savage tonight and that is exactly what he's going to do. Luger tells Savage to "take a look at this" and then he flexes for the camera, telling Savage that he may be the "Macho Man" but he's "The Total Package" and that means that he's the best. Buff Bagwell then tells Gene that Savage has as much of a chance of winning his match tonight as Gene does of ever sporting a full head of hair again! "Buff Daddy" then laughs at his own mean-spirited joke as he as Luger walk off and Gene is left standing lone, feeling somewhat self-conscious. <strong>(B-)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="wNECq63.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wNECq63.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="IJIxeY2.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IJIxeY2.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Tony Schiavone starts off by explaining the stipulation of this match, stating that the loser must stand in the middle of the ring tomorrow night on Nitro and proclaim the winner, and the winner's country, to be superior. As the match gets underway, it is BG James who takes control, coming out swinging with rights and lefts and taking the fight to Storm while Tony and Mike talk about how this match is all about pride and respect for BG James. BG goes for several pin attempts in the first few minutes, trying to catch Storm off guard, but Storm manages to kick out each time. After BG's initial flurry, Storm begins to take control as he goes to work on the left leg of BG James. All of Storm's offense is focused on the leg, which Mike Tenay calls great strategy by Storm, who he calls a true ring general. BG James fights heroically and he never backs down, but every time he tries to string some moves together, Storm cuts him off by going back to work on the leg. Despite the damage to BG's leg, Storm is unable to apply the Canadian Maple Leaf as, every time he goes for it, BG is able to counter it. After BG counters it for the third time, Storm goes for a quick roll-up instead, grabbing a handful of tights for added leverage as he steals a victory here at Mayhem.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Lance Storm defeated BG James at 12.22 by pinfall with a roll-up while grabbing the tights (C+)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> The match is over and Lance Storm quickly leaves the ring and makes his way back up the ramp, looking less than thrilled with the way his victory came about. BG James is even less thrilled about it in the ring as he complains to the referee about Storm grabbing his tights, but the referee says he didn't see it. BG James is clearly unhappy, but, as Tony Schiavone points out, the outcome of this match means that BG James has to stand in the ring tomorrow night on Nitro and proclaim Lance Storm to be the superior athlete and Canada to be the superior country. <strong>©</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="Z1DlA0N.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Z1DlA0N.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="O6ChwMw.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/O6ChwMw.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Following that controversial ending, we cut backstage where "Mean" Gene Okerlund is back again, and this time he is standing by with Booker T. Gene notes that Booker will be in action coming up next here at Mayhem against Scott Steiner and Kevin Nash with a World Title shot on the line. Booker is hot already, saying that a few weeks ago he would have thought that Scott Steiner would be his number one target here tonight, but after what Nash has done over the past two weeks, he has painted one hell of a bullseye on his back and Booker is coming for him tonight. Now can you dig that? <strong>(B-)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WCW World Heavyweight Championship Number One Contender's Match</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="O6ChwMw.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/O6ChwMw.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="YiAV5xv.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/YiAV5xv.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="aiJ3oYx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/aiJ3oYx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />w/<img alt="ijZDMft.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ijZDMft.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Three of the biggest stars in the business go at it with a shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship on the line, so you know the fans are red-hot for this one. Booker T wastes no time going after Kevin Nash, and after watching the two of them slug it out for a bit, "Big Poppa Pump" gets involved as well as he clobbers both men. Steiner dishes out a belly to belly suplex to both Booker and Nash, and then he even does a few push-ups to show everyone that "The Big Bad Booty Daddy" is only just getting warmed up. Scott showboats for too long, however, and Booker T makes him pay for it with some big right hand punches and a back heel kick that takes Steiner down. As Scott rolls out of the ring to regroup, Booker T is blasted from behind by Nash, who shoves Booker into the corner and goes to work with elbows and knee strikes, framing the last big elbow before he delivers it. Nash then hits a sidewalk slam and scores the first near-fall of the match, but Booker kicks out after two. Nash pulls Booker back to his feet, hoists him up on his shoulder, looking to deliver snake eyes, but Booker T slips out the back and shoves Nash chest-first into the turnbuckle. Booker then takes Nash off his feet with a Harlem sidekick, and he does the same thing to Scott Steiner as he re-enters the ring. Booker spin-a-roonie's his way back to his feet and hooks Steiner for the Bookend, but Steiner elbows his way out of it and hits a belly to back suplex, leaving all three men down on the mat for the time being.</p><p> </p><p> All three men stir to life and get back to their feet at the same time. Booker charges at Nash, but Nash catches him with a big boot to the face. Steiner eats a big boot as well, and just like that "Big Sexy" is in control. Nash throws Booker into the corner and chokes him with his foot, then whips him into the ropes, looking to score with a big clothesline...but Booker ducks, hits the ropes again, and drops Nash with another big kick. Nash gets back to his feet again, only for Booker to kick him in the stomach and....AXE KICK!!! Booker hits the Axe Kick and he quickly covers, but Steiner is there to break it up. Steiner unleashes a flurry of brutal punches on Booker before launching him over the top rope...but Booker reverses and sends Steiner over the top rope and out of the ring instead! Unfortunately, Booker turns around and right into another big boot from Kevin Nash! The straps come down for "Big Sexy" and he sets Booker up for the Jackknife Powerbomb...and hits it! Much like in the US Title match, Shawn Stasiak gets involved at every opportunity, turning this into a two on one situation despite Torrie Wilson's best efforts to alert the referee to the goings-on. But Billy Kidman is about as resilient as any Cruiserweight Champion we've seen in WCW, and he proves that again tonight as he endures and survives the two on one situation until he finds his moment to turn things in his favor by reversing a Mike Sanders powerbomb into a spinning DDT. From here, Kidman successfully fights off both Sanders and Stasiak, with Stasiak eating a dropkick that sends him flying off the apron and onto the floor. A dazed Mike Sanders walks right into a BK Bomb, and Kidman quickly ascends to the top turnbuckle and, wasting no time whatsoever, he executes a picture perfect Shooting Star Press, which gets him the one-two-three and another successful title defense.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Billy Kidman defeated Mike Sanders at 9.17 by pinfall with a Shooting Star Press. Mike Tenay points out that Luger is here tonight to do Jeff Jarrett's dirty work for him, which Tony Schiavone agrees with, while Bobby "The Brain" Heenan reminds them both that Totally Buff are the WCW Tag Team Champions, so maybe they ought to show them some respect. The match is a straight up brawl with both men throwing their fair share of punches. The match spills outside and this is when Lex Luger takes control of the match by arguing with the referee to allow "Buff Daddy" to get involved as he clotheslines Savage behind the referee's back. Luger rolls Savage back into the ring and works him over some more, and then he calls for the Rack. Luger goes to hoist Savage up in the Torture Rack, but Savage is able to fight out of it! Savage unloads in Luger with punches, kicks and elbows, and when Buff tries to enter the ring, he gets decked as well. Savage hits a pair of atomic drops, a trio of clotheslines, and then he bodyslams Luger in the middle of the ring. As Savage climbs to the top rope, Buff Bagwell tries to grab his leg, but Savage is able to kick him off. Savage then leaps and connects with the big Elbow Drop from the top rope and this one is over!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Randy Savage defeated Lex Luger at 9.56 by pinfall with the Flying Elbow Drop (C+)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="zah6nFe.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/zah6nFe.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />w/<img alt="GQpaxEc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/GQpaxEc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="t5bgsE2.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/t5bgsE2.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair comes down to the ring for his match against "The Cat", and Flair is accompanied by Miss Jones. Instead he remains on the floor as the music is cut off, and Flair is calling for "The Cat" to enter the ring so they can finally get this thing settled once and for all...but then "The Nature Boy" is suddenly nailed with a low blow from behind by Miss Jones! The crowd boos as "The Cat" quickly enters the ring and hits the Feliner on Flair! Tony notes that Sting won the World Title one month ago at Halloween Havoc, and that "The Chosen One" is looking to regain the Championship here tonight. Bobby Heenan says that Sting never would have won the title if it hadn't been for Randy Savage sticking his nose in Jarrett's business, but Mike Tenay quickly points out that all Savage did at Halloween Havoc was prevent Jarrett from using the guitar as a weapon against Sting, like he has done against so many other competitors here in WCW. It is Jarrett who gains the first real advantage in the match and he does it by sticking a thumb into Sting's eye in what Tony Schiavone calls "true Jeff Jarrett fashion", which Bobby Heenan naturally takes offense to on behalf of "The Chosen One". While the announcers argue, Jarrett himself takes too long taunting the crowd and pointing to his temple to tell them all how smart he is, which means that Sting is ready and waiting when Jarrett finally turns around and Sting runs him over with a series of clotheslines. Sting follows up with a pair of atomic drops, and then finally a one handed bulldog. Sting howls at the crowd, who respond in kind, and then he is right back on the challenger, whipping him into the corner, climbing to the second turnbuckle, and raining down punches as the crowd counts along...</p><p> </p><p> One...</p><p> </p><p> Two...</p><p> </p><p> Three...</p><p> </p><p> Four...</p><p> </p><p> Five...</p><p> </p><p> Six...</p><p> </p><p> Seven...</p><p> </p><p> Eight...</p><p> </p><p> Nine...</p><p> </p><p> Ten!!!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> With ten shots delivered, Sting jumps down and allows Jarrett to stagger out of the corner, only to scoop him up and slam him onto the mat. Sting pulls Jarrett back to his feet and lays into him with some big time punches, driving Jarrett back first into the ropes. Sting then bounces off the ropes on the opposite side of the ring and he clotheslines Jarrett over the top rope and to the outside, much to the delight of the fans. Fired up, Sting beats his chest, howls at the crowd once more, and then he slings himself over the top rope and onto Jarrett with a diving crossbody! Sting seems to be in complete control, but a desperate Jeff Jarrett goes back to his thumb in the eye move, and then he sends Sting back-first into the guard rail, buying himself a much needed breather. Jarrett gets Sting back into the ring where he hits a swinging neckbreaker, and then he applies a sleeper hold on the Champion in the middle of the ring. The hold is locked in for a while and Jarrett does everything he can to wear Sting down, possibly even to the point of making him lose consciousness, which would then make him easy pickings for "The Chosen One" as Tony Schiavone explains. Mike Tenay replies that Sting is not easy pickings for anyone, and as if to prove Tenay's point, Sting starts fighting his way back to his feet at that moment. Sting fires off a couple of elbows to force separation, and then he bounces off the ropes looking for a clothesline, but Jarrett avoids it and Sting ends up right back in the sleeper hold again. This time, however, Jarrett isn't able to keep the sleeper on for long as Sting hits a belly to back suplex which leaves both men down in the middle of the ring as Mike Tenay notes that the match is beginning to take its toll on both Champion and Challenger here.</p><p> </p><p> The referee begins his count and both men are back to their feet at the count of seven. Sting and Jarrett trade punches in the ring until Sting gains the upper hand, driving Jarrett into the corner, then whipping him across the ring into the opposite corner. Sting follows and delivers not one, not two, but three Stinger Splashes in a row. Jarrett staggers out of the corner on shaky legs, and Sting drives him to the mat with another one handed bulldog, which gets the Champion a two and a half before "The Chosen One" kicks out.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="epiwJ9r.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/epiwJ9r.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="tjPJopW.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/tjPJopW.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell make their way down to the ring, looking somewhat worse for wear after the punishment they received at the hands of "Macho Man" Randy Savage earlier. Bagwell jumps up on the apron and distracts the referee while Luger grabs one of Jarrett's guitars from under the ring. As Sting goes to confront Bagwell, Luger slides the guitar to Jarrett, then joins his tag team partner in distracting Sting. The referee sends Totally Buff to the back, but while he is busy doing so, Jarrett takes advantage of the opportunity created by his "Chosen Ones" allies to blast Sting over the head with the guitar! Jarrett gets rid of the evidence as best he can, and then he yells at the referee and makes the cover...</p><p> </p><p> 1...</p><p> </p><p> 2...</p><p> </p><p> ...3!!!!</p><p> </p><p> NO, WAIT!!!! Sting just barely managed to get his shoulder up before the three count. Jarrett can't believe it as he grabs his head, his eyes wide in disbelief. Despite Jarrett's arguments, the referee maintains that Sting kicked out, which he did. Putting the disappointment behind him, Jarrett pulls Sting back to his feet and sets him up for the Stroke...but Sting reverses it into a slightly modified version of the Scorpion Deathdrop! Exhausted from the match, not to mention having a guitar smashed over his head a few moments ago, Sting can't make the cover right away but he does eventually manage to get an arm across Jarrett's chest...</p><p> </p><p> 1...</p><p> </p><p> 2...</p><p> </p><p> ...3!!!</p><p> </p><p> NO! This time it is "The Chosen One" who just barely manages to kick out, and Mike Tenay is quick to point out that if Sting could have made the cover a little bit sooner, the match would be over right now, which Bobby Heenan says is ridiculous because Mike has no way of knowing if Jarrett would have kicked out--which Heenan, of course, knows that he would have. Both men slowly get back to their feet and Jarrett tries to strike first with a clothesline, but Sting ducks, grabs Jarrett, and drives him into the mat with a belly to back suplex. Then, digging deep, Sting wills himself back to his feet, grabs Jarrett's legs and....SCORPION DEATHLOCK!!!</p><p> </p><p> Sting has the hold locked in and Jarrett is screaming in pain, but fighting for all he's worth to get to the ropes. <p>Time for another round of prediction contest results and for the first time ever we have no less than three people who tied for first place:</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Satyr24, Kijar and Henderson all share first place with 21 hits</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

And Crackerjack and Beejus tied for second place with 20 hits</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Obviously i picked a bad month to not have any bonus questions for the PPV <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

But in all seriousness I want to thank everyone who predicted and/or commented during this past month of shows. It is much appreciated.</p><p> </p><p>

Prizes will be sent out as soon as I figure them out (I'm hoping it will be within the next few days).</p><p> </p><p>

I quite liked the card for Mayhem and I hope that you all enjoyed the show. A frustrated Storm rolls out of the ring to regroup, while Mike Tenay wonders if Sting's experience advantage when it comes to big time matches is what is coming into play here early on. Storm does eventually find his footing in the match, hitting a snap suplex, a german suplex, and then going to work on Sting's left leg, which Tenay speculates is in preparation for the Canadian Maple Leaf. Storm controls the next several minutes of the match, making great use of his technical skills while never removing his focus from Sting's leg, prompting Mike Tenay to call Storm "a great in-ring general". Sting does eventually mount his comeback, unloading on Storm with rights and lefts, though he is clearly hampered by the damage that Storm has done to his leg. Sting hits a Stinger Splash in the corner and goes for a second, but a desperate Lance Storm pulls the referee in front of him and both Storm and the referee feel the impact of the Stinger Splash, though the referee's body shielded Storm from a portion of it. Sting scoop slams Storm and then he wakes up the referee, who is still rather groggy. As Sting sets up for the Scorpion Deathlock, the groggy referee slowly crawls into position, but then...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="aiJ3oYx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/aiJ3oYx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner is suddenly up on the apron of the ring, and Sting is close enough to the ropes that Steiner is able to blast him with his lead pipe without having to enter the ring! The referee is still pretty out of it and somehow he missed Steiner nailing Sting with the pipe. Lance Storm, taking full advantage, rolls Sting up into a pin attempt just as Sting collapses from the shot with the lead pipe, and...1...2...3!!!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Lance Storm defeated Sting at 13.27 by pinfall with a roll-up after Scott Steiner hit Sting with a lead pipe. <p>Man B, you do such a good job with this time period. I'm a little jealous that even in a six month game, I generally feel like the third wheel (well, second now as it seems TFC has gone missing) because you do such an amazing job keeping things feeling fresh even if the characters aren't always very fresh. Also I really like that Hell Raiser cut.</p><p> </p><p>

Sting - <em>Despite his big talk, I can't see Storm being able to pull this one off. At least not on some random Nitro while Scott Steiner is in the headlights.</em></p><p>

Lex Luger - <em>Assuming that next week is O'Haire vs. Bagwell, Palumbo falls here.</em></p><p>

Jung Dragons - <em>Too bad about their turn not working out. It felt like you built up to it well though?</em></p><p>

Dustin Rhodes</p><p>

Ernest Miller - <em>I think you've pushed The Cat better than anyone before you in any diary ever has.</em></p><p>

Animal - <em>He may take the win, but it'll be by a DQ of some sort.</em></p>
