Has to be said though, I really like your use of Ross Henry as the star of the promotion, even if he isn't a New York boy like Flash, Mauler or the Generals (those guys are my core 5 guys). Guessing you have him in a Figurehead slot by now?

And man, did Larry Vessey stink up NYCW with most of his signings or what? I don't know one of them that I liked or kept around when playing NYCW.

The thing about Henry is that he just delivers in the main event agaisnt just about anyone. It's like having my very Hulk Hogan in the mid-80s. He's not the figurehead at this point though.

As for Larry's choices, I do wonder what on Earth he was thinking. Flash and Mauler are always fun. Ring Generals I struggle with. They never, ever seem to have good tag team matches, which is just bizarre. Maybe I'm making the matches too short? I'm just not sure.

I use them to hold down the tag team division with straight D matches while jobbing them to good performance guys like Flash. The problem with the tag division in a monthly event style company is that it takes time for guys to really improve. Even just working 8 shows a month of a tour makes so much of a difference for any wrestler.

I just read all six pages of this and genuinely enjoy it. The few times I've tried playing as NYCW, I've either gotten horrible chemistry rolls (like once where five of six matches I booked on a show got bad chemistry notes) or just gotten bored with the horrible starting roster. That said, I can't wait to see where this goes. Ross Henry is MONEY.

Welcome to New York… The King is dead, long live the King…

NYCW The King of New York

Saturday, Week 2, September, 2018

McGaw Arena, Queens, New York City, New York,

Attendance: 3,832

10-MAN BATTLE ROYAL: Austin Smooth won a battle royal in 10:24. The other members of the 'final four' were William Jetterson, Bret Heartbreak and Brutus Milano, with William Jetterson being the final elimination. Brutus Milano got the most eliminations over the course of the match. (D-)

Eurgh, I hate Brutus. Austin gets a nice win there though.

KONY QUARTER FINALS MATCH: In on of the more lopsided matches in recent history, ‘Downtown’ Lenny Brown absolutely dominated and defeated an out-of-place Garry Walker in 5:41 by pinfall with The Star Treatment. (D+)

Not a lot to say beyond, good match and right winner.

KONY QUARTER FINALS MATCH: In a rematch from last year, mentor and protégé battled it out. Just as the youngster setup the veteran to deliver a Flash Bang (his own move against him), the wily Steve Flash reversed it into a Flash of Brilliance, which knocked Liotta out of the ring and he was counted out in 5:54. Neither man looked happy with the result however. (D+)

That’s right, these two have the slowest, slow-burn feud of all time. Two matches, one year apart and with the series tied at one a piece.

KONY QUARTER FINALS MATCH: In the third match in the series Tennessee William and Aldous Blackfriar battled it out for 8:16, but eventually a winner was decided as Tennessee used ‘Cheryl’ to get the win and advance. (C-)

Good match again from these two and Tennessee finally gets his man.

KONY QUARTER FINALS MATCH: The masked lucha The Mythical One came within one second of besting the Cowboy Bradley Blaze, but a low blow behind the referees back and flash pin gave Blaze the victory in 7:12. (C-)

Stop it Mythical One, you cheeky little devil. Getting a big match performance in the King of New York tournament no less. You are definitely wasted in a tag team. We’d address that. Maybe.

NYCW TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The Lone Gunmen defeated The Brothers of Annihilation © in 8:16 when The Hangman was disqualified while fighting Animal Harker. (D-)

Hah, bet you thought I’d changed the titles there right? Right? What do you mean ‘no?’ Anyway, I wanted Animal to get a big match win, but wouldn’t switch the titles, so DQ win is the best way to go for all involved. Neither Brother of Annihilation has been pinned since they debuted by the way. Legends in the making I’d say.

KONY SEMI-FINAL MATCH: The first semi-final of the tournament pitted the Tri-State Regional Champion Tennessee William against the upstart ‘Downtown’ Lenny Brown. 7:40 into the match and Tennessee brought out the remains of Cheryl, but Lenny grabbed them off him and clobbered him instead, getting the pinfall and moving onto the finals. ©

Another good match in a series of them as Lenny Brown proves his worth time and time again. But can he win the whole thing?

KONY SEMI-FINAL MATCH: In a great match between Steve Flash and ‘Cowboy’ Bradley Blaze the ending came when a still upset Ralph Liotta entered the ring and attempted to deliver a Flash of Brilliance to his mentor, only for Flash to duck and let Blaze eat boot. So after 7:32 Flash won by pinfall. (D+)

And thus Flash is one match away from fulfilling his destiny and regaining the crown of Grand Slam winner in NYCW. Can he avoid Ralph’s intereference again to get the job done? Good match in a series of them.

KING OF NEW YORK TITLE MATCH: It only took under 13 minutes to settle the main event for Empire City Showdown III. ‘Downtown’ Lenny Brown was taken to the limit by Steve Flash, but Liotta once again appeared and this time hit both a Flash Bang and a Flash of Brilliance while downtown kept the referee occupied. A Star Treatment later and Lenny Brown wins the NYCW King of New York title. (C-)

Best result for all concerned as we decide to pull the trigger on Lenny Brown in the main event of our biggest show of the year. Providing he doesn’t get poached, this could be a match to remember.

ANGLE: Ross Henry makes an elaborate entrance. (A*)

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE MATCH: Ross Henry © defeated Doctor O'Haire in 27:47 by pinfall with an Earthquake Powerslam. (C+)

Hope you enjoyed your moment in the spotlight Doc, it’s back down to jobbing to Garry Walker for a while. And with that we finish the best card in our history.

OVERALL: C+

We find out after the show that Honest Frank has retired when he pays us a visit and we treat him to some sandwiches as a thank you. He doesn’t look impressed.

We finished 1st all round and made a whopping $270 profit, but that was good enough for us. So we have two months until Empire City Showdown III. Time to build the card around three big matchups and hope to knock it out of the park.

Next time on Welcome to New York… It’s all about momentum heading into the big show…

Welcome to New York… Where we burn through matchups while holding off for the biggest show of the year…

Slow news week, so onwards.

Welcome to New York 22: Triple Threat

Thursday, Week 1, October, 2018

McGaw Arena, Queens, New York City, New York,

Attendance: 3,756

FOURWAY TAG TEAM MATCH: The Brothers of Annihilation © defeated The Lone Gunmen, Rust Dillon and Jay Hume and Perren Cloutier and Thomas Barnett in 9:31; the order of elimination was Perren Cloutier and Thomas Barnett first, then Rust Dillon and Jay Hume, and finally The Lone Gunmen. (E+)

The Brothers of Annihilation continue to dominate and destroy everyone in their path. I’m wondering if I’m wasting them both a bit in the tag ranks. A slight deep dive tells me that The Hangman is a far better worker, thanks mainly to everything he’s learnt from The Masked Mauler. I immediately regret ditching the Mauler actually. Perhaps when Larry relaxes his rules about the age of a worker I can hire I might bring him back.

SINGLES MATCH: William Jetterson defeated Garry Walker in 9:48 by submission with a Viper Vice. (D-)

The Cobra gets a much-needed win to further establish himself as a worker to be feared. I STILL don’t have a use for Garry Walker. It’s been months now and nothing is coming to mind.

TAG TEAM MATCH: Legacy defeated The Marvelous Ones in 8:25 when Bret Heartbreak defeated Austin Smooth by pinfall with a Heart Attack. (D-)

Austin Smooth wasn’t happy about taking the pinfall, but a quick knuckle crack by Robin DaLay soon changed his mind. We liked that. We liked that a lot. Big win for Legacy here as we start to build up a face team to actually give the Brothers a run for their money.. Would it work? Probably not.

ANGLE: Tennessee William cuts a promo saying he ain’t afraid of no snakes and William Jetterson should stick to be a lackey and a choker. ©

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE MATCH: Tennessee William defeated Doctor O'Haire in 8:11 by pinfall with a Devil's Crossroad. (C-)

Clean win and a good match for Tennessee here as he further cements himself as our best available midcard champion. Doctor O’Haire can’t buy a win, but he doesn’t need to. He’s still very much jobbing for a living.

TAG TEAM MATCH: Bradley Blaze and Brutus Milano defeated Azteca Now in 8:21 when Bradley Blaze defeated Elemental IV by pinfall with a Dallas Drop. (D-)

Yes alright so Brutus Milano gets a win, but only by virtue of the fact he’s teaming with Blaze. I’m happy for the luchas to take the loss here, because frankly, he could have all the potential in the world, but Elemental IV currently sucks.

SINGLES MATCH: Lenny Brown defeated Steve Flash in 12:23 by pinfall with The Star Treatment. ©

A solid, main event match second from the top. I’m astounded that Flash can still go at his age without even a sniff of decline. Not to mention he’s training both Ralph Liotta and Perren Cloutier. ‘Downtown’ continues his march to the main event of Empire City Showdown III.

ANGLE: Ross Henry makes an elaborate entrance. (A*)

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: Ross Henry © defeated Aldous Blackfriar and Ralph Liotta in 28:06 when Ross Henry defeated Aldous Blackfriar by pinfall with an Earthquake Powerslam. (B-)

Well hello Ralph Liotta. Look at him go, bringing the goods in the main event. He avoided getting pinned too. Massive, game-changing performance by the former Heartbreak Express member as he continues to prove his worth.

ANGLE: Ross Henry is celebrating his victory in the ring. Lenny Brown runs in and attacks, beating Henry down into the mat while Ralph Liotta watches on and laughs. (B-)

OVERALL: C+

Boom. Standard C+ rated events for us these days. Lovely. Touring company PGHW signed up Animal Harker which further adds to the mystery of how he can be so good, yet do so little for us. The Hangman, following his over year-long path of destruction has asked for a payrise from $140 to $270. We’d give it to him, cos he’s still ridiculously cheap.

Old School Wrestling

Thursday, Week 3, October, 2018

McGaw Arena, Queens, New York City, New York,

Attendance: 4,128

NYCW TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The Brothers of Annihilation © defeated Azteca Now in 5:42 when The Hangman defeated The Mythical One by pinfall with a Choke Slam. (D)

Simple storytelling of a monster team beating a small-but-quick team.

TAG TEAM MATCH: Legacy defeated The Marvelous Ones in 6:23 when Robin DaLay defeated The Architect by pinfall with a DaLay Down. (D-)

Once again Austin Smooth was unhappy, once again DaLay dealt with it. I do like the plucky, massive youngster and his intimidating ways. Another good win for Legacy.

SINGLES MATCH: William Jetterson defeated Masked Stranger in 8:26 by submission with a Viper Vice. (D)

Clean win for Cobra against our most middling of midcarders. Seriously what is the actual point of the Masked Stranger beyond losing to up-and-coming heels. Whatever makes a living I guess.

ANGLE: Following the match Jetterson opens his bag and lets Sir Hiss the Cobra out of the bag and chases the Masked Stranger to the back. (E+)

Sure, why not.

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE MATCH: Tennessee William © defeated Ralph Liotta in 7:45 by disqualification after William Jetterson ran in and attack Tennessee William. (D+)

Solid match, although a big step down for Liotta from last week. He didn’t properly lose though and it moved the Cobra vs. William story along nicely.

SINGLES MATCH: Lenny Brown defeated Animal Harker in 17:55 by pinfall with The Star Treatment. (C-)

Well there’s some of the goodness we’ve heard so much about with Animal Harker. Momentum of the new guy is building to a crescendo.

ANGLE: Beethoven’s 9th Symphony plays throughout the arena and the crowd stand up to see what’s going on. There’s an elaborate light show around the entrance and the video screen displays the word… Supreme… and through the curtain steps… Spencer Spade. He’s got a microphone… “Ladies and Gentlemen of New York… Your saviour is here. I’ve kept one of my big beautiful eyes on what’s been happening here in NYCW and I’ve decided to take a break from my…. Supreme career, to come say hi, win every title you’ve got and then disappear back to the big boys with them all. It’s time you all paid homage, to the man.” (D)

That’s right, we’ve managed to poach one of the hottest free agents in wrestling history to add to our already awesome roster of young workers. He’s got all the talent, charisma, star appeal and skills to be a massive player in the coming months.

SINGLES MATCH: Spencer Spade defeated Steve Flash in 12:57 by pinfall with a Supreme Stunner. (C-)

And who better to feed to the Supreme One, than one of the most decorated men in NYCW history. Great first match from the newcomer as Flash does what’s best for business, like he always does.

ANGLE: Ross Henry makes an elaborate entrance. (B+)

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: Ross Henry © defeated Aldous Blackfriar and Bradley Blaze in 28:03 when Ross Henry defeated Bradley Blaze by pinfall with an Earthquake Powerslam. (B)

Woof! Massive match. Best in company history in fact. It’s a shame that Ross Henry gets furious whenever he loses, otherwise we could have some truly epic matches with the talent we’ve got at the top of the card. But then again, we tried Aldous with the strap and that was a mistake.

OVERALL: C+

We are riding a wave on unparalleled momentum at the moment and I sort of feel like we can’t be stopped. We’re building to Henry vs. Brown, Tennessee vs. Jetterson and Brothers of Annihilation vs. Legacy at Empire City Showdown III.

Next time on Welcome to New York… The Supreme One continues to make a mark and Ralph Liotta gets a one-on-one match with the champ…

Welcome to New York… Where we’ve only focused on three matches for the biggest card of the year, and none of them are setting the world on fire…

So it turns out that when Ernest won the King of New York Tournament, the presige of that title bumped up to an A. Now that ‘Downtown’ Lenny Brown has won it, it’s C+. Have we made a terrible mistake with our booking of the biggest feud of the year? Should we have gone with Blaze instead?

The answer to all of these questions is probably yes, but it’s done now. We’d get it right next year.

Stomping in the City

Thursday, Week 4, October, 2018

McGaw Arena, Queens, New York City, New York,

Attendance: 4,454

NYCW TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The Brothers of Annihilation © defeated Azteca Now in 8:06 when The Hangman defeated Elemental IV by pinfall with a Choke Slam. (D)

If it works one time, it’ll work many times.

SINGLES MATCH: William Jetterson defeated Animal Harker in 7:45 by submission with a Viper Vice. (D-)

As above, it’s all about getting momentum to our key workers to the detriment of our lesser workers.

TAG TEAM MATCH: Legacy defeated The Marvelous Ones in 7:42 when Bret Heartbreak defeated The Architect by pinfall with a Heart Attack. (D)

SINGLES MATCH: Steve Flash defeated Spencer Spade in 7:56 by disqualification. (D+)

So we didn’t want Flash to get totally destroyed by the newcomer. So we had The Supreme One get DQ’d for hitting the legend with brass knuckles. And now, we get to have a rubber match at the biggest show of the year.

ANGLE: Tennessee William cuts a promo saying that William Jetterson is going to learn a valuable lesson about messing with someone from Tennessee when Empire City Showdown arrives. (C+)

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: Tennessee William © defeated Aldous Blackfriar and Ralph Liotta in 13:30 when Tennessee William defeated Aldous Blackfriar by pinfall with a handful of tights. During the match we also had William Jetterson run in and attack Tennessee William. (C-)

Transplanting two of our Empire Title challengers into the Tri-State Regional mix and delivering pretty good results. Once again, the little weasel Ralph Liotta avoids getting pinned. I love his gimmick of obnoxious loudmouth.

ANGLE: Ross Henry makes an elaborate entrance. (A*)

TAG TEAM MATCH: Bradley Blaze and Lenny Brown defeated Ross Henry and Masked Stranger in 27:40 when Lenny Brown defeated Masked Stranger by pinfall by using underhanded tactics. (C+)

Good main event and realistically the only way he can get Ross Henry to lose. Partner him up with someone, have them eat the pin and then have him dominate in singles matches. It’s not a perfect booking method, but it’s all we’ve got right now.

OVERALL: C

As October drew to a close, we’d finished 1st in all battles and with our improved production costs, it didn’t look like that would change anytime soon. We also made a $53,952 profit, thus proving that we’ve got all the logistical stuff in place to step forward. If any big names arrived in free agency we could sign them without blinking.

Now all we had to do was wait, or hope that Larry changed his mind on some of our goals.

Welcome to New York 24: Flash for the Gold

Thursday, Week 1, November, 2018

McGaw Arena, Queens, New York City, New York,

Attendance: 4,671

NYCW TAG TEAM TITLE FOURWAY MATCH: The Brothers of Annihilation © defeated Doctor O'Haire and Jay Hume, Perren Cloutier and Rust Dillon and Thomas Barnett and Masked Stranger in 9:31; the order of elimination was Doctor O'Haire and Jay Hume first, then Perren Cloutier and Rust Dillon, and finally Thomas Barnett and Masked Stranger. (D-)

I’m sure someone in this mass of bodies are some really talented workers. All I need to do is have a think and give them the right push. Ooooorrrr, just job them out to the tag team champions.

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE MATCH: Tennessee William © defeated Brutus Milano in 5:54 by pinfall with a Devil's Crossroad. (D)

Suck it Milano! Ahem.

TAG TEAM MATCH: Lenny Brown and Spencer Spade defeated Azteca Now in 13:13 when Spencer Spade defeated Elemental IV by pinfall with a Supreme Stunner. (C-)

A simple win for two of our top heels against two youngsters who can afford some losses. Great match actually, and Elemental IV gained some tips on selling during the match too. Perfect.

SINGLES MATCH: Bret Heartbreak defeated Austin Smooth in 7:37 by pinfall with a Heart Attack. (D-)

We’ve burnt through tag team wins, so now we roll onto singles wins. Smooth wasn’t too happy, but we’d make it up to him down the line.

SINGLES MATCH: Robin DaLay defeated The Architect in 8:03 by pinfall with a DaLay Down. (D-)

As above, rinse and repeat.

TAG TEAM MATCH: William Jetterson and Bradley Blaze defeated Garry Walker and Animal Harker in 9:52 when William Jetterson defeated Animal Harker by submission with a Viper Vice. (D+)

Mix and Match tag team affair again as we throw storytelling out the window for a couple of weeks in favour of pure momentum and popularity boosts. It’s ugly, but effective.

ANGLE: William Jetterson cuts a promo hyping up his upcoming match with Tennessee William. Apparently the Elvis Wannabe is going to see what a Cobra does when it’s backs against the wall. (D+)

SINGLES MATCH: Aldous Blackfriar defeated Steve Flash in 25:26 by submission with a Gloomweaver Clutch after blatantly cheating. (D+)

Ahhh, poor Steve Flash. Every time he gets going, I job him out in consecutive weeks to build up a heel. It’s the nature of having a dominant face like Ross Henry on top. He’ll burn through the competition. I’ll use Flash to build them back up so that Henry can beat them again. It’s the CIRCLE OF LIIIIIFE!

ANGLE: Ross Henry makes an elaborate entrance. (A*)

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE MATCH: Ross Henry © defeated Ralph Liotta in 27:51 by disqualification after interference from Lenny Brown. (B)

WOAH! Where on Earth did that come from? Talk about a star-making performance from Ralph Liotta. Sure he was in there with Ross Henry, but my word. He looked like a megastar. And, he didn’t get pinned. I’m seriously regretting my booking decisions for the big show now. Should have stuck a rocket up Liotta’s backside and ridden him to the main event.

OVERALL: C+

Elsewhere in the world, former Tri-State Regional Champion and heartthrob Logan Wolsbaine got called up to SWF. Good for him. Nothing like curtain-jerking for a bunch of clowns in silly outfits.

You’re better than that Logan! You’re better than that and you know it.

Please come back to us.

Next time on Welcome to New York… The final two shows before the big one, what could possibly go wrong this year?

Welcome to New York… Where we learn from our mistakes… Sort of…

There’s two shows left before Empire City Showdown III and the big, if slightly underwhelming main event of Ross Henry vs. ‘Downtown’ Lenny Brown.

Old School Wrestling

Thursday, Week 3, November, 2018

McGaw Arena, Queens, New York City, New York,

Attendance: 4,777

TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: Bradley Blaze defeated Aldous Blackfriar and Masked Stranger in 12:59 when Bradley Blaze defeated Masked Stranger by pinfall with a Dallas Drop. (D+)

Needed to get all our upper midcarders and main eventers on the card. Blaze and Aldous don’t really have anything to do at the moment and Stranger sucks. So chuck em all in there and give Blaze the win.

SINGLES MATCH: Steve Flash defeated Ralph Liotta in 13:24 by disqualification after Jay Hume hit the ring and attacked Flash. (D)

That’s right, it’s time to move one of our nobodies from the Job Squad into an actual feud. He looked terrible out there, so that’s an awful start. But hey, the Mentor vs. Protégé Story continues.

SINGLES MATCH: Spencer Spade defeated Animal Harker in 12:43 by pinfall with a Supreme Stunner. (D+)

Clean win for The Supreme One again, although I’m running out of decent face characters for him to defeat. Might have to move up some of the Job Squad as fodder.

ANGLE: Ross Henry makes an elaborate entrance. (A*)

FOUR VS FOUR MATCH: Ross Henry, Tennessee William and Legacy drew with Lenny Brown, William Jetterson and The Brothers of Annihilation in 27:35 when the referee lost control and stopped the match. ©

A nice big mess of a match where nobody wins and more importantly, nobody loses. Match was actually a touch disappointing considering the talent. But as I’m learning the more you dilute Ross Henry’s involvement, the worse the results are.

ANGLE: Ross Henry is still in the ring and Lenny Brown attacks, beating Henry down into the mat. (B+)

OVERALL: C

Not much else going on in the world it seems. So onwards…

Stomping in the City

Thursday, Week 4, November, 2018

McGaw Arena, Queens, New York City, New York,

Attendance: 4,777

NYCW TAG TEAM TITLE FOURWAY: The Brothers of Annihilation © defeated Brutus Milano and Doctor O'Haire, Jay Hume and Perren Cloutier and Rust Dillon and Thomas Barnett in 9:59; the order of elimination was Rust Dillon and Thomas Barnett first, then Jay Hume and Perren Cloutier, and finally Brutus Milano and Doctor O'Haire. (D-)

One final multi-team match to give the Brothers a final run heading into their big match.

SINGLES MATCH: Bret Heartbreak defeated Austin Smooth in 8:27 by pinfall with a Heart Attack. (D-)

Once again, we have no other decent teams, so we’ll give Legacy a pair of singles victories.

SINGLES MATCH: Robin DaLay defeated The Architect in 8:07 by pinfall with a DaLay Down. (E+)

As above. I don’t like running exactly the same matches, but these aren’t important shows. It’s best we save the good matches for the important shows.

TAG TEAM MATCH: Lenny Brown and Bradley Blaze defeated The Lone Gunmen in 8:09 when Lenny Brown defeated Animal Harker by pinfall with The Star Treatment. (C-)

And again, as above, get two of our top guys wins over mid-level guys.

ANGLE: Lenny Brown cuts a promo hyping up his upcoming match with Ross Henry. Apparently it’s time to start respecting the new man in New York. The Second Era of Henry is about to come to an end and it’s time we all went, Downtown! (B-)

SINGLES MATCH: Steve Flash defeated Ralph Liotta in 7:50 by count out after Jay Hume pulled Liotta out after an attempted Flash Bang. (D)

That’s right, so scared is Liotta of being pinned, he’s literally walking out of matches now. What a hero.

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE MATCH: Spencer Spade defeated Tennessee William © in 13:20 by disqualification after William Jetterson run in and attacked Tennessee William, but hit Spade by accident. ©

That’s what we call creative booking to keep everyone strong. Or possibly, make everyone seem like a chump. Only time would tell I guess.

ANGLE: Tennessee William cuts a promo saying he’s had enough of William Jetterson interfering in his business. At Empire City Showdown III, it’s on. ©

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE MATCH: Ross Henry © defeated Aldous Blackfriar in 27:47 by pinfall with an Earthquake Powerslam. During the match we also had Lenny Brown run in and attack Henry. (B-)

Great match between these two again. Their long-running feud has been something of a backbone to the promotion for a year, which is pretty incredible, considering Aldous hasn’t ever really had a shot at winning.

ANGLE: Ross Henry is celebrating his victory in the ring. Lenny Brown runs in and attacks, but this time, Ross Henry is ready and delivers an Earthquake Powerslam to end the show standing tall. (B)

That’s right people, we can mix it up with the best of them.

OVERALL: C+

We ended November having made a healthy $89,066 profit and finished 1st in all battles. William Jetterson’s contract was up for renewal, so we re-signed him and have him a couple $100 extra per appearance. Doctor O’Haire told us he’d moved to New York, which was cool, but we didn’t pay anyone travel expenses anyway, so it was more of a nice thing than an actual benefit. And in RIPW, Scythe got the call-up to the SWF roster proper, as did Remmy Skye. Good for them.

It did leave a hole in the RIPW roster though, which was…

Dammit.

NYCW Empire City Showdown III Card:

Fourway Tag Match: Walker and Cloutier vs. Dillon and Barnett vs. Liotta and Hume vs. Milano and O’Haire

Tag Team Match: Azteca Now vs. The Marvelous Ones (Architect and Smooth)

Singles Match: Bradley Blaze vs. Masked Stranger

Singles Match: Animal Harker vs. Aldous Blackfriar

NYCW Tag Team Title Match: The Brothers of Annihilation © vs. Legacy

NYCW Tri-State Title Match: Tennessee William © vs. William Jetterson

From the sounds of it, Henry's gone, so give it to Lenny Brown and build the hell outta Spencer Spade to take that belt away from Brown.

Hmmm someone is getting called to RIPW but I’m not convinced it’s Henry, since he never seems to be taken. Liotta has shown potential so it could be him. Could be a Lenny Brown as well. Hangman might be a good choice but he is so ridiculously cheap he must not be ready. Curious to see who’s gone

NYCW Empire City Showdown III Card:

Fourway Tag Match: Walker and Cloutier vs. Dillon and Barnett vs. Liotta and Hume vs. Milano and O’Haire

Logical choice to win is Liotta here but his partner sucks, unfortunately everyone else is a jobber here. But I think Liotta is leaving

Tag Team Match: Azteca Now vs. The Marvelous Ones (Architect and Smooth)You owe Smooth and company

Singles Match: Bradley Blaze vs. Masked Stranger

Bad Brad has shown some potential

Singles Match: Animal Harker vs. Aldous Blackfriar

Ever since Harker signed the touring contract he has been on the wrong side of victory

NYCW Tag Team Title Match: The Brothers of Annihilation © vs. Legacy

Tough call

NYCW Tri-State Title Match: Tennessee William © vs. William Jetterson

based on the potential changes I see Tennessee moving up to the main event line

No. 1 Contenders Match: Steve Flash vs. Spencer Spade

Time for the Era of Spade before it’s too late and he leaves

NYCW Empire Title Match: Ross Henry © vs. ‘Downtown’ Lenny Brown

I think you were building to a title change but then we’re having secon thoughts. Still the logical choice is Henry is being taken finally but that leaves you with Brown, Liotta, and Spade as the top guys and they’re all heels

Welcome to New York… Nothing more to say here…

NYCW Empire City Showdown III

Thursday, Week 2, December, 2018

McGaw Arena, Queens, New York City, New York,

Attendance: 5,000 (SOLD OUT!)

FOURWAY TAG TEAM MATCH: The show opens proper with a chaotic fourway tag team elimination match. Consisting of young up-and-coming performers, some getting their first taste of a major show, it was designed to be madness from bell-to-bell, although the pace was a little slow and clunky. The new team of Ralph Liotta, complete with tassled chaps and a mirrored vest and the gigantic Jay Hume dominated proceedings. There was a moment when Doctor O’Haire and Brutus Milano threatened to steal the victory, only for a Flash of Brilliance Superkick into a powerbomb ended the match for the upstarts.

Ralph Liotta and Jay Hume defeated Garry Walker and Perren Cloutier, Rust Dillon and Thomas Barnett and Brutus Milano and Doctor O'Haire in 10:07; the order of elimination was Brutus Milano and Doctor O'Haire first, then Rust Dillon and Thomas Barnett, and finally Garry Walker and Perren Cloutier. (E+)

Excellent chemistry teaming with Hume and Liotta. Well hello there. The young lad has a bodyguard and they’ve got the chemistry. This is truly excellent news. Poor match though.

ANGLE: Ralph Liotta says that while he may have been trained by Steve Flash, he’s now going to train the next generation and he’d like to introduce to the world, his ‘boy’ Jay Hume. But he doesn’t like the name Jay Hume, he prefers it if everyone calls him: Scorpius. (D+)

The ego on this kid. What a snidey little legend.

TAG TEAM MATCH: More tag team action as the masked pairing of The Mythical One and Elemental IV took on the loud-mouthed Austin Smooth and The Architect. Solid, if unspectacular action ensued and while the luchadors did well, it was the technical skills of Smooth which eventually won the day.

The Marvelous Ones defeated Azteca Now in 10:14 when Austin Smooth defeated Elemental IV by submission with a Smooth Hold. (D)

Poor match considering the talent involved, although apparently it’s Elemental IV who was dragging things down. Might be time to split Azteca Now and give The Mythical One a singles push.

SINGLES MATCH: Cowboy Bradley Blaze has seen a mixed year in fortunes. While he’s been in the conversation for the Empire Title numerous times, he’s never quite taken the step necessary to grab it. The Masked Stranger meanwhile has struggled, other than a brief pairing with Animal Harker, to gain any form of stranglehold on a winning streak. So a matchup between the two played exactly to type with the Cowboy victorious and the masked man of NYCW seeing the ceiling for the three count.

Bradley Blaze defeated Masked Stranger in 8:25 by pinfall with a Dallas Drop. (C-)

Hey, a great little match here as Blaze continues to perform like a star every time I give him the opportunity. He’s probably too big for the Tri-State and not big enough to win the Empire. Tough spot, but as long as he keeps performing, I don’t care.

SINGLES MATCH: With an entrance repleat with druids and black candles, the leader of The Prophecy, The Apocalypse, The Brothers of Annihilation and servant of the Dark Gods; Aldous Blackfriar took on the simpleton brawler Animal Harker. The action was plodding and underwhelming and every time Harker got an upper hand, the Dark Prince would turn the tables. With his opponent confused and exhausted, Blackfriar locked in the Gloomweaver Clutch for the victory.

Aldous Blackfriar defeated Animal Harker in 7:34 by submission with a Gloomweaver Clutch. (D)

The match we’ve seen a few times before, does exactly what we expect it to.

NYCW TAG TEAM MATCH: One of the more anticipated matches on the card, an upset occurred. The dominant force of the Brothers of Annihilation came into their match with Legacy with all the momentum in the world. They continued to throw around their smaller opponents for almost ten minutes, before a miscommunication lead to The Hangman smashing Hellion with a Lariat of Destruction. Using their speed and reflex advantage, DaLay and Heartbreak snagged a flash pinfall and won themselves some tag team gold on the biggest stage of them all.

Legacy defeated The Brothers of Annihilation © in 9:39 when Robin DaLay defeated Hellion by pinfall with a DaLay Down after Hangman accidentally hit his own partner. Legacy win the NYCW Tag Team titles. (D)

And we’ve finally pulled the trigger on a title change. The Brothers had destroyed everyone in their path, so it was time to mix things up. I’m not sure of Legacy as a long-term answer, but for now, it was time to get them out of the mix. Hangman remains un-pinned in his entire career.

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE MATCH: For months, the singing superstar Tennessee William has bested all-comers in his pursuit of a record-breaking Tri-State Regional Title Reign. But in William ‘The Cobra’ Jetterson, he met more than his match. In one of the best matches of the night, the two exchanged attacks and reversals to the delight of the crowd. Jetterson unleashed his pet snake ‘Sir Hiss,’ only for the creature to be subdued by a rendition of ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ from Tennessee on his guitar ‘Cheryl.’ In the end, Tennessee setup for a superplex, only for Cobra to lock in the Viper Vice on the top rope. He held on as both men tumbled to the mat together, and William eventually passed out.

William Jetterson defeated Tennessee William © in 25:41 by submission with a Viper Vice. William Jetterson wins the NYCW Tri-State Regional title. (C-)

Speaking of pulling the trigger. Two title matches, two changes. Was it a sign of things to come?

ANGLE: Tennessee William is say forlornly in the middle of the ring. The crowd get to their feet and give him a standing ovation. He waves a few times and with tears in his eyes, he places his guitar Cheryl on a stand in the middle of the ring and heads to the back. (C-)

That’s right, RIPW look to fill the void left by Remmy Skye by signing Tennessee William. We can’t say we blame him, but it will be a real shame to say goodbye to the man who we’ve become very fond of over the years.

ANGLE: Spencer Spade cuts a promo saying once he’s down with Steve Flash, he’ll happily take on Ross Henry or Lenny Brown. And that’s not just good news, it’s SUPERB! (C+)

SINGLES MATCH: In the third matchup between the two in a month, Triple S; Supreme Spencer Spade fought against one of the most decorated men in NYCW history; Steve Flash. The action was excellent and technical as you’d imagine from these two. Despite the prowess of both men as top ring generals, it came down to the screwiest of finishes as ‘Flash’ Ralph Liotta and ‘Scorpius’ Jay Hume ran down to ringside. Steve Flash was distracted and with a grab of the tights and a rollup, The Supreme One for the 1-2-3.

Spencer Spade defeated Steve Flash in 13:10 by pinfall with a handful of tights following interference from Ralph Liotta and Jay Hume. (C-)

Yeah, so he cheated. Who cares? Spencer Spade is the number one contender to the Empire Title, where he belongs. But the question is: Who is he facing?

ANGLE: Lenny Brown makes an elaborate entrance. (C+)

ANGLE: Ross Henry makes an elaborate entrance. (A*)

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE MATCH: Following two magnificently over-the-top entrances, former NFL star Ross Henry put his Empire Title on the line against ‘Downtown’ Lenny Brown. For half an hour the two men had the New York City masses on the edge of their seats and then on their feet with reversals, counters and traded finishers. Gasps could be heard as Lenny kicked out of an Earthquake Powerslam, while Henry returned the favour by kicking out of a top-rope Downtown Driver. With neither man able to stand properly, they fought back onto the top rope, where Lenny Brown reversed a hurracanrana into a top-rope Earthquake Powerslam and referee Michael Bull counted the 1-2-3. Downtown is handed the title for his victory at the biggest event of the year. But wait. Michael Bull is waving away the win, Henry’s foot was on the bottom rope. The challenger is confused long enough for Henry to hit an Earthquake Powerslam for the win.

Ross Henry © defeated Lenny Brown in 27:38 by pinfall with an Earthquake Powerslam. (B-)

Psyche!

ANGLE: ‘Downtown’ Lenny Brown is furious at the defeat and he begins to tear the ringside area apart, then Ross Henry jumps him. Beats him down and literally throws him into the crowd where he leaves to a chorus of the ‘Goodbye Song.’ (B)

Yup, while Tennessee fills the hole left by Remmy in RIPW, Lenny Brown takes over from Scythe. I know it’s a big loss, but overall, I’d call his run a disappointment and I’m not all that sad about him leaving. We tried, and he failed. We move on.

OVERALL: C+

So SWF came calling for Tennessee William and sent him straight to our competition RIPW to learn the SWF-Way. Meanwhile, Downtown Lenny Brown joined him. Because we can’t possibly have a main event of our biggest show of the year without at least one of the competitors joining the big boys. In fairness, I’d miss Tennessee more, Lenny never really clicked into the uber-push I gave him.

As the year ends, we again came 1st in all battles and made $31,822 profit. Our momentum is at it’s highest ever at B+ and our Empire Title is at A* prestige thanks in no small part to Ross Henry. With this in mind, we decide it’s time to make the former NFL star our official figurehead. He’s the closest we’ve got to someone who can do the job and the big boys don’t seem keen on him as a prospect, which is frankly, mental.

So we bid farewell to 2018 and look forward to 2019 and Spencer Spade vs. Ross Henry.

Can’t argue with any of that to be honest. Look at little Ralph Liotta go.

So it was 2019 and we had a plan. A plan to grow as quickly as possible. We’d ignore the chance of a huge monthly income and instead introduce a new show and build around the Spade vs. Henry programme.

I felt positive.

Next time on Welcome to New York… We build up to a new monthly big show…

Welcome to New York… Where we’re going for broke in New England to become more popular than the Patriots… suck it Tom Brady…

So our main event of the traditionally raucous first show of the year was set. The Supreme One Spencer Spade was ready to take on Ross Henry for the highly coveted Empire Title. We had other plans already afoot and needed to figure out a story to fill in for the departed Tennessee William and the Tri-State Regional Title.

We also had a big plan for the end of the month, but we had two shows before then, so on we go.

Welcome to New York 25: Supreme Showdown

Thursday, Week 1, January, 2019

McGaw Arena, Queens, New York City, New York,

Attendance: 5,000 (SOLD OUT!)

NYCW TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Legacy © defeated James Diaz and Doctor O'Haire in 8:14 when Robin DaLay defeated James Diaz by pinfall with a DaLay Down. (D-)

James Diaz is a young monster heel who we’re trying to bed into the roster. He did pretty well. Legacy meanwhile having won the tag titles have seen the prestige drop from C to D-. Oh dear. Already people see them as a transitional team.

ANGLE: Ralph Liotta and Scorpius are out. Ralph says he’s done beating Old Man Flash, he’s now going to beat the kid who took his place as the latest protégé of the broken-down nobody. (D+)

SINGLES MATCH: Ralph Liotta defeated Perren Cloutier in 7:52 by pinfall with a Flash of Brilliance Superkick. (D-)

That’s right folks, Liotta, man of the hour, has decided to destroy Flash’s legacy and it all starts with the bizarrely-named Perren Cloutier.

ANGLE: Steve Flash comes down to check on his protégé, and Scorpius challenges him to a match. With the crowd’s help, the veteran accepts. (D+)

SINGLES MATCH: Steve Flash defeated Scorpius in 10:10 by pinfall with a Flash Bang. (D-)

Despite the size disadvantage, Flash manages to overcome the monster with veteran moves. Liotta looks a little upset to say the least.

ANGLE: Ross Henry, a man used to using his actions to speak for him, gets the microphone. ‘The Supreme One,’ as he calls himself; Spencer Spade to his momma. If he’s so Supreme, why isn’t he still employed at the ‘Big Boys’ as he calls them. He thinks it’s because he’s heard NYCW is where the real competition is, but he’s about to find out just how tough life can be. (B-)

Good first full promo from our Figurehead right there.

TAG TEAM MATCH: The Lone Gunmen defeated The Brothers of Annihilation in 9:49 when Animal Harker defeated Hellion by pinfall after The Hangman choke-slammed his own partner. (D)

Ouch, imagine losing to Animal and Stranger. How the mighty have fallen. Also please note, dissention.

ANGLE: The Hangman is in the ring arguing with Aldous Blackfriar and Hellion. Aldous attempts to lock in the Gloomweaver Clutch, only to be choke-slammed out of his boots. But this gives Hellion enough time to destroy his tag team partner and the two leave him laying in the ring. (C-)

That’s how you destroy a dominant tag team. Insta-feud.

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE MATCH: William Jetterson © defeated Elemental IV in 8:13 by submission with a Viper Vice after blatantly cheating. (D-)

Decent little singles match for the currently underwhelming Elemental IV. Jetterson marks his first defence as Tri-State champion with a healthy dose of cheating.

TAG TEAM MATCH: The Marvelous Ones defeated Rust Dillon and Thomas Barnett in 8:18 when Austin Smooth defeated Thomas Barnett by submission with a Smooth Hold. (D-)

My word, could the Marvelous Ones actually be getting some momentum. What can I say, they’re loud and obnoxious and I like them greatly. Why the devil not. Thomas Barnett sucks though. Rust Dillon has some talent.

ANGLE: Spencer Spade cuts a promo hyping up his upcoming match with Ross Henry. The Era of Supreme begins… Tonight. (B-)

He really is a fantastic all-rounder isn’t he? Blimey.

SINGLES MATCH: Brutus Milano defeated Garry Walker in 10:16 by disqualification. (E+)

Filler match alert, filler match alert. Hey look Larry, your boy got a win. A pointless, half-assed win. Seriously though, does anyone care at this point?

TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: Bradley Blaze defeated The Mythical One and Aldous Blackfriar in 12:49 when Bradley Blaze defeated The Mythical One by pinfall, illegally using the ropes for leverage. (C-)

Great match as The Mthical One steps into the midcard with a healthy loss against one of our best. These three men always deliver top-quality performances regardless of opponent and should have big, if not starring, roles in the year ahead.

ANGLE: Ross Henry makes an elaborate entrance. (A*)

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE MATCH: Ross Henry © defeated Spencer Spade in 28:24 by disqualification. (C+)

Great first match between these two, which ends after Spencer Spade becomes frustrated at not being able to pin his opponent and just hits him with some brass knuckles instead.

ANGLE: With the referrer gone, Spencer Spade continues to beat Henry on the mat with his brass knuckles to end the show. (B)

OVERALL: C+

Great show all round and a main event, which was very good, if not the stellar encounter I was expecting. Backstage, the masked Elemental IV approached me to complain about how he’s being booked. Turns out losing to Brutus Milano is not a recipe for success.

Fair point.

Onto Boston we go.

Traditional Tour

Thursday, Week 2, January, 2019

The Skid Row Club, Boston, New England

Attendance: 687

TAG TEAM MATCH: Steve Flash and Perren Cloutier defeated Ralph Liotta and Scorpius in 7:48 when Scorpius was disqualified while fighting Steve Flash. (E+)

That’s right, our Mentor/Protégé story now has added tag team flair. Seems a good way to get Cloutier and Scorpius accustomed to, you know, actual wrestling. They did ok in fairness. Although Flash carried the match.

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE MATCH: William Jetterson © defeated Masked Stranger in 8:18 by submission with a Viper Vice after blatantly cheating. (E+)

Good old Masked Stranger. Always on hand to lose to the heel of the week. This time Jetterson gets a win, using the snake ‘Sir Hiss’ for a distraction.

SINGLES MATCH: Aldous Blackfriar defeated Rust Dillon in 4:31 by pinfall with a Super Kick. (D-)

Ouch, these two don’t click, which is a shame as I quite like the upside of Rust Dillon. Still another healthy win for Aldous at the very least.

ANGLE: Spencer Spade cuts a promo hyping up his upcoming rematch with Ross Henry. This time he won’t lose his temper. (B-)

TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: Spencer Spade defeated The Architect and Animal Harker in 13:09 when Spencer Spade defeated The Architect by pinfall after using a foreign object. (D+)

It’s a night of triple threat matches designed to keep our main guys strong. And in this case it works beautifully. Plus it increases Spade’s popularity in New England, which will become important soon.

ANGLE: Ross Henry cuts a promo hyping up his upcoming match with Spencer Spade saying he’s ready to win fair and square, like he always does, in the end. (B-)

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE MATCH: Ross Henry © defeated Bradley Blaze in 25:27 by pinfall with a handful of tights. (B-)

Boom! Blaze always delivers in the big match, just like Henry. Great main event to cap off a successful show.

OVERALL: C+

And thus, halfway through January, we’ve already all but locked up the regional battles and can now focus on our next big thing.

Next time on Welcome to New York… Welcome to… Boston…

Welcome to Boston… Where if something works somewhere, it should work elsewhere too…

That’s right, it was time to grow our business in another region in hopes of reaching the coveted cult status and start signing everyone to written contracts to give us roster stability. We really wanted our first major show in the area to go with a bang, so we’d treat them to one of the longest-running semi-feuds in company history as Ross Henry puts his title on the line against ‘Cowboy’ Bradley Blaze.

To The Skid Row Club…

Welcome to Boston 1: Blazing Gold

Thursday, Week 3, January, 2019

The Skid Row Club, Boston, New England

Attendance: 770

ANGLE: Ross Henry is out to the ring with a microphone. He’s delighted to be in New England, home of one of the greatest football teams in the world. Tonight they’re going to see exactly what NYCW is all about as he’s taking on one of the toughest SOB’s he’s ever had to face in Bradley Blaze. (B-)

NYCW TAG TEAM TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: Legacy © defeated The Marvelous Ones and Doctor O'Haire and James Diaz in 10:06; the order of elimination was Doctor O'Haire and James Diaz first, and then The Marvelous Ones. (E+)

Couldn’t run a straight up match between Legacy and The Marvelous Ones again, so thought I’d throw in jobber-to-the-stars O’Haire and new guy Diaz. Match sort of sucked, but it’s a new region and I’m pretty sure Legacy have never won here before.

SINGLES MATCH: Elemental IV defeated Brutus Milano in 6:21 by pinfall with an Inferno Splash. (E-)

You know what? I’m thinking running matches with these two is just a bad idea, regardless of who wins. Please Larry, let me fire Milano. Pleeeeease.

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: William Jetterson © defeated Rust Dillon and Thomas Barnett in 7:36 when William Jetterson defeated Thomas Barnett by submission with a Viper Vice. (D-)

Not a bad little match from two of our youngsters right here. Cobra gets his inaugural win and Rust Dillon in particular impresses. Not so sure of Thomas Barnett, plus his attitude sucks. Not a godo combination that; a rookie, with poor skills and a bad attitude.

TAG TEAM MATCH: Steve Flash and Perren Cloutier defeated Ralph Liotta and Scorpius in 10:21 when Steve Flash defeated Scorpius by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. (D-)

The mentor vs protégé story continues in earnest. Perren is now escorted to the ring by Flash, although in this tag match they got their stuff together and delivered the goods in a decent little match. Scorpius remains death in the ring, but hopefully having Flash mentor him will help in the long run.

ANGLE: Ralph Liotta is bebating on Cloutier after the bell, when Steve Flash fights his way through Scorpius to get his hands on his protégé and delivers three Flash Bangs. (D-)

I must remember that angles work best when the crowd know who they’re cheering for. And why.

SINGLES MATCH: Garry Walker defeated The Hangman in 8:11 by disqualification. (E+)

The Hangman dominates, as we know he must. But Garry gets the pyrrhic victory by beating him so much that the referee calls for the DQ. Poor Garry. Maybe I should stop him from bringing the toy monkey to the ring. Would people take him more seriously then?

SINGLES MATCH: Aldous Blackfriar defeated Masked Stranger in 7:34 by pinfall with a handful of tights. (D)

Another singles match to get the New England crowds used to what we’re offering. In this case a devil worshipper against a 1940s-themed masked wrestler with no character. Why weren’t we number one promotion in the world again?

ANGLE: Spencer Spade cuts a promo saying that New England isn’t ready for the Supreme One. But despite that he’ll give them a show later, then when they’re back in good old NYC, he’ll defeat Henry for the title. (C+)

Spade is just so good. I am vaguely concerned that his promos are getting more animated and hyper as the weeks go by. He also seems to be chewing his bottom lip a lot. Don’t know what that’s about.

SINGLES MATCH: Spencer Spade defeated Animal Harker in 10:08 by pinfall with a handful of tights. (D+)

Good match as it seems Animal works best against good opponents. Which is fine, but I find it slightly frustrating that someone who is billed as a great performer can’t actually, y’know, perform with anyone. Tennessee William he is not.

SINGLES MATCH: The Mythical One defeated Hellion in 7:49 by pinfall with a Northern Lights Suplex following interference from The Hangman. (D-)

Oooo, intrigue as the two behemoths continue their feud. And the lucky recipient is The Mythical One, whose performances are generally great. Sadly Hellion appears to lack that certain something, what’s it called again? Oh right, talent. Still a big win for the masked luchador.

ANGLE: Hellion and The Hangman continue to brawl into the New England crowd, while the Mythical One watches on with mild disinterest. (D)

That is… not quite what I expected from that segment. I wanted a three-way brawl. Not a two man fight and one observer. That’s not particularly heroic is it? Not exactly David vs. Goliath and Goliath is it.

ANGLE: Ross Henry makes an elaborate entrance. (A*)

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE MATCH: Ross Henry © defeated Bradley Blaze in 28:16 by pinfall with an Earthquake Powerslam following interference from The Hangman. (C+)

These two always deliver in the main event and the addition of The Hangman is always a pleasant surprise. This continues the long-running Ross Henry vs. The World story and gives him some backup in the form of the undefeated phenom of NYCW. Beautiful stuff.

OVERALL: C+

I’d call that a rousing success to be honest. We learnt some things, like ‘never trust Brutus Milano’ and we gave the people of Boston a great big, delicious slice of old school wrestling.

Now back to New York to cover the increased costs of running two shows out of town.

Old School Wrestling

Thursday, Week 4, January, 2019

McGaw Arena, Queens, New York City, New York,

Attendance: 4,687

NYCW TRI-STATE TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: William Jetterson © defeated Masked Stranger and The Architect in 8:20 when William Jetterson defeated The Architect by submission with a Viper Vice after blatantly cheating. (D)

So without the need to defend the tag team titles, I can afford to have The Architect put on a show in singles. He was ok. Masked Stranger sucked though, and even Jetterson was off his game. Hopefully his recent success hadn’t gone to his head.

TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: Steve Flash defeated Aldous Blackfriar and Bradley Blaze in 9:43 when Steve Flash defeated Bradley Blaze by pinfall with a Flash Bang. During the match we also had Ralph Liotta run in and attack Flash. (C-)

From main event, to jobbing in the second match on the next show. Life moves pretty fast in NYCW. Bradley Blaze might be the most versatile performer we have, who can slot into any position on the card at any moment and put on a good show. Aldous was a little unhappy about losing as his aborted Empire Title run has given him a sense of unparalleled ego.

SINGLES MATCH: Spencer Spade defeated Animal Harker in 9:47 by pinfall after using a foreign object. (C-)

In their second match, these two deliver an even better show. Maybe it was something to do with being in NYC which helped. Regardless it was a good match and Spade wins with the brass kunckles as is wont.

NYCW TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Legacy © defeated The Brothers of Annihilation in 20:04 when Robin DaLay defeated Hellion by pinfall with a DaLay Down following a turn by The Hangman. (D-)

Aaaand, despite appearing to be back on the same page, the simmering tension with Brothers spills over and give Robin DaLay the most unlikely of wins. Legacy are a decent team y’know.

ANGLE: Aldous Blackfriar is out to try and calm down The Hangman. He reminds him that behaviour like this displeases the dark lords. Hangman seems to listen. (C+)

ANGLE: While Blackfriar is talking to Hangman, Hellion sneaks up to deliver a Demon Bomb, only for it to be reversed into a chokeslam. The Hangman then proceeds to destroy both men to the delight of the crowd. (D)

I say delight. Hellion is not that popular. Hangman though, is officially a good guy. Very successful turn in my book.

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE MATCH: Ross Henry © defeated Ralph Liotta in 13:26 by disqualification following interference from Steve Flash. During the match we also had Spencer Spade run in and attack Henry. (B-)

Liotta just feels so at home in the main event doesn’t he? Something about his unbridled arrogance and cocky demeanour. Not to mention, he might be the only man (other than The Hangman) to never have been pinned by Ross Henry. And once again, he loses, but avoids taking the pin. Big boost for the Mentor vs. Protégé story.

OVERALL: C+

As January draws to a close we find out in the Rip Chord Invitational XIV – Bradley Blaze beat Cameron Jones in the finals. Good for him. Just because we’ve never given him a title, doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve one.

We finished 1st in all battles and made a cool $26,724 profit, despite the double-show in New England. Over in TCW Fro Sure and Bart Biggins won the TCW World Tag Titles, meaning he’s already more successful there than he ever was for us. Rust Dillon further solidified himself as a good locker room guy by doing drawings of other wrestlers. Unlike Thomas Barnett who irritated a lot of people with his selfish behaviour. So I did what any good booker would do. I fired him.

Ruling with an Iron Fist is the new motto in NYC.

Welcome to New York 26: Rise of The Hangman

Thursday, Week 1, February, 2019

McGaw Arena, Queens, New York City, New York,

Attendance: 5,000 (SOLD OUT!)

NYCW TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Legacy © defeated Doctor O'Haire and James Diaz in 7:34 when Robin DaLay defeated James Diaz by pinfall with a DaLay Down. (D)

Solid opening win for the new champs and another lovely job by The Doctor and Diaz. They’ve got no chemistry and therefore no legs as a team. But for curtain-jerking, they’re good enough. Decent little match.

SINGLES MATCH: Brutus Milano defeated Elemental IV in 8:24 by disqualification. (E)

WHEN WILL I LEARN? Oh God. Y’now, constantly being told Elemental IV is a star in the making does not make him an actual star. Then again Brutus would struggle to get a good match out of James Justice. So really, what was I expecting. Watching these two wrestle is the definition of madness.

TAG TEAM MATCH: Steve Flash and Perren Cloutier defeated Ralph Liotta and Scorpius in 10:25 when Scorpius was disqualified while fighting Steve Flash. (D)

It’s the rematch and it was fine. With Scorpius in a match, anything over E must be considered a good result.

ANGLE: Aldous Blackfriar is out with Hellion. Tonight they’re going to sacrifice their former brother The Hangman to the Dark Gods. Then they’ll do the same to Henry and they’ll become duel-Empire Champions. ©

Decent promo, especially considering the content was gibberish.

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE MATCH: The Mythical One defeated William Jetterson © in 13:14 by disqualification. (C-)

Y’know, I don’t think The Mythical One has ever had a truly bad match for us. What a hero. No title for him yet though, Jetterson is still getting used to holding gold.

TAG TEAM MATCH: The Marvelous Ones defeated The Lone Gunmen in 9:47 when Austin Smooth defeated Animal Harker by submission with a Smooth Hold after blatantly cheating. (D-)

When in doubt, job out Animal and Masked Stranger. Marvelous Ones have had a rough time recently, so it’s time to build them up. Especially with their chemistry and undoubted talents.

SINGLES MATCH: Spencer Spade defeated Rust Dillon in 7:41 by pinfall with a Supreme Stunner. ©

Oooo, hello good match. Rust Dillon, you saucy devil. Stop toying with my emotions like that. I mean, it could be Spade in fairness, but he was off his game AND acting slightly erratically. Which is a concern. Maybe he had too much of caffeine.

ANGLE: Spencer Spade cuts a promo saying that at Rush Hour, he’s going to show the World just how Supreme life can be. (B)

SINGLES MATCH: Bradley Blaze defeated Garry Walker in 10:21 by pinfall after using a foreign object. (D+)

Solid match and a much-needed win for Blaze as I like to keep him in that solid upper midcard role. I need his talents from time to time.

ANGLE: Ross Henry says tonight he’s going to destroy the forces of darkness once and for all and he’s going to do it with his new best friend and he brings out The Hangman. (B+)

Everything he touches, turns to gold.

TAG TEAM MATCH: Ross Henry and The Hangman defeated Aldous Blackfriar and Hellion in 28:30 when The Hangman defeated Hellion by pinfall after a chokeslam. ©

Actually a disappointing match thanks to flabby Hellion stinking up the joint.

OVERALL: C

Note to self, never put Hellion anywhere near the main event without more wrestlers to cover his abilities. Before our next Traditional Tour, Ralph Liotta was hauled up in front of wrestlers court and Judge Steve Flash, in a wonderful case of life imitating art.

Traditional Tour

Thursday, Week 2, February, 2019

The Skid Row Club, Boston, New England

Attendance: 763

TAG TEAM MATCH: Legacy © drew with Hellion and Aldous Blackfriar in 5:49 following a double disqualification. The match also had The Hangman run in and destroy all four men. (D)

That’s right, we’re happy to sacrifice two teams and the prestige of the tag team titles just to get Hangman over. Even though he’s not in our title plans going forward. What are we thinking?

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE MATCH: Animal Harker defeated William Jetterson © in 25:24 by disqualification. (D-)

Is it a good idea to have our second top champion constantly losing? Probably not. Feels a bit like Jetterson’s title reign is a bust. He just has no chemistry with anyone and his character doesn’t really need a title to be who he is.

SINGLES MATCH: Steve Flash defeated Bradley Blaze in 9:45 when Bradley Blaze was disqualified when Ralph Liotta ran in and attacked Steve Flash. (D)

It’s a win for Flash, but one which protects Blaze and furthers the story. Not in a good way, because apparently Flash sucks at wrestling now. When did that happen? Good thing we moved him down the card I reckon.

TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: Spencer Spade defeated Masked Stranger and Ralph Liotta in 10:28 when Spencer Spade defeated Masked Stranger by pinfall with a handful of tights. During the match we also had Steve Flash run in and attack Liotta. (C-)

That’s better, as Liotta and Spade make up for the suckfest that is Stranger. I really like Liotta, but there’s something missing from his game and I can’t quite put my finger on it right now.

ANGLE: Ross Henry cuts a promo saying that Spencer Spade better bring his A-game at Rush Hour, because it doesn’t matter how supreme you are, Henry is the man around here. (B+)

He’s so dreamy.

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE MATCH: Ross Henry © defeated The Architect in 10:07 by pinfall with an Earthquake Powerslam. (C+)

Now let’s think about this for a moment. These two apparently don’t click in the ring. A C+ rating in a match with a man who he has no chemistry with. Imagine how good it would’ve been if they were simply two guys wrestling. The mind boggles.

OVERALL: C

We receive word that Steve Flash is increasing his personal army of youngsters by becoming a mentor to both James Diaz and Elemental IV. He won’t stop until he’s got them all will he? What a hero.

Elsewhere Danny Rushmore announced his retirement. While Joaquin Soler of OLLIE did the same. That wasn’t good for the COTT, but we didn’t care. Soler was a tough negotiator and frankly both Larry and I are glad to see the back of him.

Up North, the awesome indy fed ACPW were all but doomed. We considered an aggressive expansion into Canada, and then thought better of it.

Next time on Welcome to New York… The final build to Rush Hour 2019, Brutus Milano: Main Eventer, the return of some old friends AND a very worrying report…

Welcome to New York… Where we think Brutus challenging for the Empire Title is a good idea…

Before our big New England show, Hellion was brought before wrestlers court and actually improved his behaviour because of it. Now if only he could improve his wrestling skills too.

Welcome to Boston 2: Et tu Brutus

Thursday, Week 3, February, 2019

The Skid Row Club, Boston, New England

Attendance: 782

GANG WARS MATCH: Ralph Liotta and The Marvelous Ones defeated Steve Flash, Perren Cloutier and Rust Dillon in 10:29 when Ralph Liotta defeated Perren Cloutier by pinfall with a Flash of Brilliance Super Kick after Scorpius interfered. (D)

Talk about a natural pairing. The obnoxious Marvelous Ones with the equally obnoxious Liotta. It’s pure gold. Match sucked a bit, but that’s ok.

ANGLE: Steve Flash is being helped back down the aisle by a team of officials and medics, having just suffered a defeat. Ralph Liotta and The Marvelous Ones are in the ring with a microphone, and proceed to taunt Flash about the loss. Flash tries to turn and go back and fight, but the officials heavily outnumber him and drag him backstage. (D-)

Slightly disappointing angle as I again forget that New England is still getting used to my guys as legitimate performers.

NYCW TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Legacy © defeated Doctor O'Haire and Hugh de Aske in 8:01 when Bret Heartbreak defeated Hugh de Aske by pinfall with a handful of tights. (D-)

The champs are moving up in the world and the results are… getting worse. Very disappointing really, but hey; a win is a win.

SINGLES MATCH: The Hangman defeated Scorpius in 4:40 by pinfall with a Choke Slam. (D-)

Good grief, Scorpius didn’t completely stink-up the joint. I mean, it was a short squash, but still. H looked like an actual wrestler.

TAG TEAM MATCH: The Ring Generals defeated James Diaz and Nigel Svensson in 8:21 when Dean Waldorf defeated Nigel Svensson by pinfall with a Wheelbarrow Bomb. (D-)

That’s right folks. We’ve brought back the multi-time tag champs in an attempt to give our tag division a shot in the arm. Poor match thanks mainly to poor chemistry between Diaz and Svensson.

TAG TEAM MATCH: Aldous Blackfriar and Hellion defeated Rust Dillon and Elemental IV in 8:12 when Aldous Blackfriar defeated Rust Dillon by pinfall with a Batwing. (D)

Getting the servents of the Dark Gods back on the winning trail. Rust looked pretty good in defeat. Elemental, not so much.

ANGLE: Aldous Blackfriar is in the ring. Out of nowhere, The Hangman hits the ring and attacks. The assault is quick and brutal, and leaves Blackfriar completely destroyed. (C-)

Suck it Aldous you backstage irritant. You get a boost from the win, and I immediately syphon it off to Hangman.

SINGLES MATCH: Bradley Blaze defeated Masked Stranger in 9:36 by pinfall after using a foreign object. (D)

Talk about a nothing match.

SINGLES MATCH: Spencer Spade defeated Garry Walker in 10:28 by pinfall with a Supreme Stunner. (C-)

Slightly underwhelming match actually. Garry Walker is still touted as a massive up-and-comer, but as yet, has failed to live up to the hype. Was it my booking, or my inability to give him a discernible character? No, it was his fault.

ANGLE: Spencer Spade grabs the mic and cuts a hyper-active, shouty promo saying the countdown to the Supreme Era had begun. Two weeks baby, TWO WEEK! (A)

O-kay then.

NYCW TRI-STATE TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: William Jetterson © defeated Animal Harker and The Mythical One in 9:45 when William Jetterson defeated The Mythical One by submission with a Viper Vice after blatantly cheating. (D)

Probably should’ve had Animal take the loss here, and it’s a testament to his poor-run as champ that even the inclusion of The Mythical One couldn’t raise the performance.

ANGLE: Brutus Milano is out to say that tonight, he fulfils his destiny and claims his rightful place at the top of the mountain. (E+)

Oh God!

ANGLE: Ross Henry makes an elaborate entrance. (A*)

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE MATCH: Ross Henry © defeated Brutus Milano in 24:50 by pinfall with an Earthquake Powerslam. ©

I wanted to give Brutus the best chance to succeed and while it was his best match ever, it was a drop-off in the quality of a Henry match. This is a man who got C+ from Doctor O’Haire for crying out loud.

ANGLE: Spencer Spade and Ross Henry are in the ring and are squaring off, unhappy about something. The argument soon turns physical, and they are joined by Bradley Blaze and Aldous Blackfriar for a wild brawl, with the chaos spilling out all around ringside. Eventually a number of officials and other wrestlers have to hit the ring and pull them apart before they kill each other. ©

OVERALL: C

Disappointing show, headlined by a disappointing main event. We also discovered Rust Dillon had sprained his ankle, but that Ross Henry arranged and won a poker tournament. The sly dog.

It’s time for the go home show.

Old School Wrestling

Thursday, Week 4, February, 2019

McGaw Arena, Brooklyn, New York City, New York

Attendance: 5,000 (SOLD OUT!)

SINGLES MATCH: Aldous Blackfriar defeated Masked Stranger in 8:05 by submission with a Gloomweaver Clutch. (D+)

Clean win for the Dark Prince.

SINGLES MATCH: Bradley Blaze defeated Animal Harker in 6:08 by pinfall by using underhanded tactics. (C-)

Not so clean win for the cowboy.

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: Ralph Liotta defeated William Jetterson © and Steve Flash in 11:53 when Ralph Liotta defeated William Jetterson by pinfall with a Super Kick after Scorpius interfered. Ralph Liotta wins the NYCW Tri-State Regional title. (D+)

That’s right, just before a big show we pull a cheeky bait-and-switch. Ralph Liotta is riding a ridiculous wave of momentum and we wanted to get the belt of Jetterson to setup for a better match shortly. It’s the perfect solution. Decent match too, although Flash was actually the weak link. What was going on with him? Was it because he was the wrong side of 50? No, it was something else.

SINGLES MATCH: Spencer Spade defeated The Mythical One in 10:05 by pinfall by using underhanded tactics. ©

The brass knucks are the story here as Spade cheats his way to victory in a good little midcard match. We had plans for the Mythical One, but he wasn’t quite ready just yet.

ANGLE: Ross Henry cuts a promo hyping up his upcoming match with Spencer Spade. (B)

Simple story-telling.

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: Ross Henry © defeated Dean Waldorf and Marv Statler in 24:50 when Ross Henry defeated Dean Waldorf by pinfall after using a foreign object. During the match we also had Spencer Spade run in and attack Henry. (C+)

Great match as we’re happy to sacrifice the returning Ring Generals in order to get the last vestiges of momentum onto Henry.

OVERALL: C+

Good show all-in-all. With everything in place, Rush Hour was looking like a slam dunk on paper. We received word through the wires that former Empire champion Scythe had broken his neck,w hich was sad. But we considered it his penance for deserting us.

In brighter news we finished first in all battles and made $32,327 profit. Nigel Svensson and Perren Cloutier relocated to New York (good lads) and the main story of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter was entiteled ‘The Supreme One Groomed for Success’ and had a double-page spread highlighting that NYCW were looking to build our company around Spade.

If only they knew the truth…

New York City, the night of Rush Hour 2019…

Backstage at the McGaw Arena was much like it had been for months. People were running around, making themselves busy and the guys were taping their wrists and going through their last minute preparations.

“So we’ll start with the Ring Generals against Diaz and Milano,” said Larry to the locker room.

“Curtain-jerking again boss?” said Brutus.

“You’re on the show aren’t ya? Show the booker man some goods and he’s got my permission to push you to the moon. But I ain’t gonna do it all myself.”

Brutus sulked away.

“He knows he’s losing right?” I said.

“He’s been losing for years, he’s used to it,” snapped Larry. “Maybe switch things up, give him a win once in a while?”

“Whatever you say boss,” I lied.

“Then,” continued Larry with a sneer. “We’ve got a four corners match with the new guy. Where is the new guy?”

“I’m here Mr. Vessey sir,” said a perfectly chiselled specimen of a man. Seriously if you had to imagine the perfect wrestler physique, this guy had it.

“Good, now listen, you’re getting the win tonight based on your name. It’s rare for a Stone to be seen outside of Canada, so we’re going to give you a little push and see what you’ve got.”

“I won’t let you down sir,” said David Stone.

“I’m no sir,” snapped Larry. “Then we’ve got Hangman vs. Hellion, Liotta vs. Mythical One, Legacy vs. Doc and Scorpinok, oh whatever he’s called these days, other new guy over Garry…”

A man dressed like a pirate entered and waved a plastic cutlass in the air and said “Ahhhhh!”

“You’ll fit in fine,” said Larry. “Flash vs. Blackfriar vs. Blaze for COTT World Heavyweight Title.”

Aldous walked up with the title over his shoulder. “No funny business old man, this belt is worth its’ weight in gold to me.”

“Did somebody say gold?” said the pirate.

I rolled my eyes.

“And finally we’ve got the big match, Spade vs. Ross. You boys ready.”

“I am boss man,” said Ross Henry. He came over and leant in. “Haven’t seen Spencer all day though.”

“What?” said Larry and he stared at me. “Well where is he?”

“I don’t know,” I replied. “I’m not his mother.”

“You’re the booker,” said Larry. “You’re all of these guys mum, dad, babysitter and manager. Find him, the show starts soon.”

I asked around, but nobody had seen or heard from Spencer in weeks. Then I remembered he was friends with Doctor O’Haire. The two had bonded over a shared love of horticulture.

“Hey Doc, you seen Spencer?”

“Do you think I might actually get to win a match tonight?” he said in his affected, British accent.

“Seriously; where’s Spade?”

“Hang on, I’ll check.”

Doc pulled out his mobile and called Spade. There was no answer. Just then the door burst open and in toppled Spade. He looked pale, sweaty and his eyes were pointing in opposite directions.

“Christ,” I exclaimed. “Is he drunk.”

“That aint’ no alcohol,” said Bradley Blaze.

Doctor O’Haire grabbed Spade’s eyelids and pulled them up.

“A word please boss,” he said.

I invited Doc into my office.

“What’s wrong with him?”

“He’s high,” said Doc.

“High?”

“Yes sir, he’s taken what appears to be a metric tonne of cocaine.”

“But… I mean… drugs?”

“You work in the wrestling industry, this can’t possibly be the first time you’ve seen someone on drugs?”

“It’s the first time I’ve ever noticed,” I said truthfully. “Is he going to be ok?”

I felt stupid for having to ask.

“He’ll be fine,” said Doc. "But he can’t compete tonight, he’ll injure himself. Or someone else.”

“But he’s our main event,” I said.

“Not anymore,” said Doc. “But if you need a fill in, I’m happy to give Mr. Henry a run for his money…”

“Thanks Doc, I need to think. Oh and send Bradley in will you? And Ross.”

“As you wish.”

Welcome to New York… Where we deliver a big match, on the fly, on a back of a packet of cigarettes…

NYCW Rush Hour 2019

Saturday, Week 3, March, 2019

McGaw Arena, Brooklyn, New York City, New York

Attendance: 5,000 (SOLD OUT!)

TRIPLE THREAT TAG TEAM MATCH: The returning four-time tag team champions The Ring Generals punctuated their return by making short work of the makeshift teams of up-and-comers. The action was reasonably slow-paced considering the lack of talent working, but the Generals held their own to defeat them all.

The Ring Generals defeated Brutus Milano and James Diaz and Perren Cloutier and Rust Dillon in 8:16; the order of elimination was Perren Cloutier and Rust Dillon first, and then Brutus Milano and James Diaz. (D-)

Standard ‘mass of bodies, get em a pay day’ opener.

FOUR CORNERS MATCH: The New York crowd have an eye for a star and the moment David Stone walked through the curtain to the sounds of ‘Gimme Shelter’ by The Rolling Stones, they knew they were seeing something special. Against three of the better lower card workers in NYCW, David Stone still shone like a beacon of youthful awesomeness. He even won the match with the patented Stone Ankle Stretch to the delight fo the NYCW faithful.

David Stone defeated Elemental IV, Nigel Svensson and William Jetterson in 9:33 when David Stone defeated Nigel Svensson by submission with a Stone Ankle Stretch. (D-)

In his first ever match since coming up from the Stone Family Dungeon, David Stone outshone everyone. Thus, a star is born.

TAG TEAM MATCH: In a match full of history and bad blood, the crowd were treated to a hard-hitting, old school affair from The Marvelous Ones and the Lone Gunmen. Things appeared deadlocked until NYCW Tri-State champion Ralph Liotta delivered a Super Kick behind referee Michael Bull’s back and Austin locked in the Smooth Hold.

The Marvelous Ones defeated The Lone Gunmen in 7:36 when Austin Smooth defeated Animal Harker by submission with a Smooth Hold after blatantly cheating. (D)

SINGLES MATCH: Underwhelming was the word being shouted from the crowd in the battle of the Brothers. Paying off a long-running story, Hangman defeated his brother Hellio, but only by count out. The crowd seemed more interested in playing with a beach ball than the action itself.

The Hangman defeated Hellion in 10:23 by count out. (D-)

Hellion was off his game. Seriously? In his biggest singles match to date. That is not what I needed. Not tonight.

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE MATCH: In one of the more anticipated matches of the night; the newly crowned Tri-State champion Ralph Liotta survived a barrage of amazing shots by the masked Mythical One without losing. It was only when Steve flash accidentally hit the luchador that Liotta sprung into action, grabbing a handful of tights and rolling up his opponent to escape with the title.

Ralph Liotta © defeated The Mythical One in 9:49 by pinfall with a handful of tights. During the match we also had Steve Flash run in and attack Liotta, but accidentally hit The Mythical One. (D+)

Good match here. Probably could’ve been better with more time, but there’s always the rematch to consider.

ANGLE: Ralph Liotta cuts a promo thanking Steve Flash for the assist, but he runs away through the crowd to avoid the wrath of his mentor. ©

I really do love Liotta.

NYCW TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Needing to cool the crowd from the excitement of the last match, the tag champs Legacy fought a by-the-numbers match against the new team of O’Haire and Scorpius.

Legacy © defeated Doctor O'Haire and Scorpius in 7:33 when Bret Heartbreak defeated Doctor O'Haire by pinfall with a power bomb. (D-)

SINGLES MATCH: The crowd didn’t know what to do when the theme to Pirates of the Caribbean blared over the speakers. They seemed just as confused nine minutes later when ‘The Dread Pirate’ Hugh de Aske had his hand raised after defeating Garry Walker, but hitting him with his plastic cutlass behind the referee’s back.

Hugh de Aske defeated Garry Walker in 8:25 by pinfall by using underhanded tactics. (D-)

Disappointing debut right there.

COTT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: In the match of the night so far, ‘The Dark Prince’ Aldous Blackfriar put his COTT World Heavyweight Title on the line against the Legend Steve Flash. The action was fast-paced and exciting throughout, but it was only when Liotta accidentally returned the favour by hitting a Flash of Brilliance Super Kick on Blackfriar that Flash got the pin and the title, much to the annoyance of Aldous.

Steve Flash defeated Aldous Blackfriar © in 24:22 by pinfall after Ralph Liotta accidentally Super kicked Blackfriar. Steve Flash wins the COTT World Heavyweight title. (C-)

That’s right. Now the Mentor vs. Protégé angle has stakes. Two titles ladies and gentlemen. Plus, Aldous is too big for his boots already. Always fun to knock him down a peg or two.

ANGLE: Ross Henry makes an elaborate entrance. (A*)

ANGLE: Ross Henry has a microphone:

“Ladies and gentlemen of New York City. I was supposed to be facing Spencer Spade for the Empire Title tonight. He promised me we was clean and sober and that he’d push me to the limit. He swore to God almighty that he wouldn’t let me down. Or you, the people who make us what we are down either. He lied. I’d like to claim he’s injured, or stuck in traffic, but the truth is, he’s in no fit condition to fight. That was his choice. He has chosen to get high and to let you all down. With that being said, I need some competition. So whoever has the stones big enough to take me on, come on out here. And let Ross Henry make you famous!”

Blaze of Glory by Bon Jovi plays…

(A)

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE MATCH: It wasn’t the advertised match the fans paid for, but it just might have been better as ‘Cowboy’ Bradley Blaze renewed his long-running rivalry with Ross Henry. The two men put on a drop-down-drag-out classic, with crisp nearfalls and beautiful counter wrestling. In the end, as is always the case when these two fight, it was Bradley Blaze who went for the Six-Shooter DDT, only to see it reversed into an Earthquake Powerslam for the 1-2-3.

Ross Henry defeated Bradley Blaze in 27:55 by pinfall by an Earthquake Powerslam. (B)

OVERALL: B-

What a car wreck. He fined Spade, but he barely even acknowledged the conversation. Backstage I found David Stone and The Mythical One getting on well, which warmed my heart.

We, again, came 1st in the regional battles and made $35,166 profit. Whilst someone called Chess Maniac has taken over OLLIE.

Next time on Welcome to New York… Spade vs. Henry II finally happens…

Welcome to New York 27: The Supreme Challenge II

Thursday, Week 1, April, 2019

McGaw Arena, Brooklyn, New York City, New York

Attendance: 5,000 (SOLD OUT!)

NYCW TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Legacy © defeated Scorpius and Nigel Svensson in 8:01 when Bret Heartbreak defeated Scorpius by pinfall with a Heart Attack. (D-)

Clean win for the champs as I look to move Scorpius away from Liotta. Not because they don’t make a good team, but realistically Liotta doesn’t need him now that he has a loose affiliation with The Marvelous Ones.

TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: David Stone defeated Brutus Milano and Elemental IV in 8:22 when David Stone defeated Elemental IV by submission with a Stone Ankle Stretch. (E+)

I thought I’d specifically asked for Milano to tap there. I wonder if Larry had a quiet word with Elemental? David Stone continues to look like a man among boys though. Sweet Jesus what a guy.And to think we only got him because NOTBPW only offers PPA contracts to graduating stars.

SINGLES MATCH: Hugh de Aske defeated Rust Dillon in 7:56 by pinfall after using a foreign object. (D-)

Another match for the Dread Pirate and another disappointment. He’s supposed to be one of the top 5 Ring Generals in the company, which is a concern.

TAG TEAM MATCH: The Marvelous Ones defeated Perren Cloutier and Garry Walker in 7:44 when The Architect defeated Perren Cloutier by submission with a Blueprint after interference from Ralph Liotta. (D-)

The Obnoxious combination pays dividends again. I really like the idea of a punk midcard stable who just cause trouble for other midcarders. And Smooth, Architect and Liotta fit the bill.

SINGLES MATCH: The Hangman defeated Hellion in 8:19 by pinfall with a Choke Slam. (D-)

Eurgh. What an ugly match, which would make what happens next easier. Hellion, it seems, sucks without someone to cover his flaws. That doesn’t work for me in singles. Hangman remains unpinned. What a Phenom.

TAG TEAM MATCH: The Ring Generals defeated William Jetterson and Doctor O'Haire in 9:57 when Marv Statler defeated William Jetterson by pinfall, illegally using the ropes for leverage. (D)

Needed to give the Generals a win and following his failed Tri-State Title run, Jetterson can lose with the best of them. The best of the losers of course being Doc.

ANGLE: Ross Henry cuts a promo hyping up his upcoming match with Spencer Spade. (B-)

SINGLES MATCH: The Mythical One defeated James Diaz in 6:12 by pinfall with a German Suplex. (D+)

Good Lord The Mythical One is pure gold in the ring. He’s gone from hot prospect to top Show Stealer and Ring General in the company in the matter on months. Witness this match where he makes ‘guy off the street’ James Diaz look like the second-coming of James Justice.

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE MATCH: Ralph Liotta © defeated Masked Stranger in 10:15 by pinfall with a Flash of Brilliance Super Kick. (D-)

How to you get a new heel champion over in NYCW? You feed him Masked Stranger. Match was poor, but it was a clean win. Stranger is running out of juice in that role though.

SINGLES MATCH: Bradley Blaze defeated Animal Harker in 10:21 by pinfall by using underhanded tactics. (D+)

Bradley needed a boost following his defeat at Rush Hour. Enter the other half of the midcard face job squad, Animal to do the honours and get Blaze back on the straight and narrow of success.

COTT WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Aldous Blackfriar defeated Steve Flash © in 12:04 when Steve Flash was counted out fighting Ralph Liotta at ringside. (D+)

In a rematch, Aldous, despite promises by us before the match, fails to recapture his COTT World Heavyweight Title. We felt bad for lying, but things were moving forward at such a speed that we just HAD to keep the belt on Flash for now. All would become clear soon.

ANGLE: Ross Henry makes an elaborate entrance. (A*)

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE MATCH: Ross Henry © defeated Spencer Spade in 27:41 by pinfall with an Earthquake Powerslam. (C+)

Spencer’s performance was hampered because he was high. Again! Ross was furious and came back and demanded a microphone. I explained what I planned to do with Spencer and if Ross wanted the honours, now was the time.

ANGLE: Ross Henry grabs the microphone:

“You’re a disgrace Spade. Therefore in my role as the Empire Champion, I have received the all clear from the back to tell you Spencer, the following; YOU’RE FIRED! Nobody is bigger than NYCW, nobody is bigger than wrestling and nobody is bigger than the fans. The loyal fans who have made this, the hottest independent promotion in the world. Never again will someone like you be put into a position to ruin an event like you have tonight. Get out of my sight.” (C+)

OVERALL: C+

Backstage Ross Henry was furious with Spencer Spade, which proved to be the final straw for us. We showed Spade the door, which made his behaviour worse and as he left he told me he strongly disliked me. I was ok with it.

We received word that Animal Harker’s contract was ending, so we’d have to come up with something for him. Elsewhere Jack Bruce broke his neck, which could well mean the end of the road for the multiple time world champion and arguably the most famous wrestler in the US.

Hellion’s stopped by after the show to request a pay rise from $800 to £1,300. We refused and he went ballistic at us. Were it not for Steve Flash wandering by my office at the time, the big lug might’ve broken my neck. Luckily he didn’t, but he did sign his own death warrant with that behaviour.

Traditional Tour

Thursday, Week 2, April, 2019

The Skid Row Club, Boston, New England

Attendance: 819

NYCW TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Legacy © defeated Hellion and Hugh de Aske in 8:10 when Robin DaLay defeated Hellion by pinfall with a DaLay Down. (D-)

Let the job commence. We wanted to give the rub to our new champs and keep de Aske a little hot. So Hellion bites the loss. That’s what you get when you threaten me you maniac.

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE MATCH: Ralph Liotta © defeated Masked Stranger in 7:45 by pinfall with a Super Kick. (E+)

Continue the push for Liotta who actually has more momentum currently than everyone except Ross Henry. What a lad. Stranger continues to suck.

TAG TEAM MATCH: The Marvelous Ones drew with The Ring Generals in 13:24 when the referee lost control and stopped the match. (D)

A solid if unspectacular match from two of our stronger and better established teams. It might be that Legacy are currently the least impressive of all our tag teams, yet are champions. Life is funny sometime.

ANGLE: Ross Henry and Steve Flash make an elaborate entrance. (A*)

TAG TEAM MATCH: Aldous Blackfriar and Bradley Blaze drew with Ross Henry and Steve Flash in 28:06 following a double count out. During the match we also had Ralph Liotta run in and attack Flash. (C+)

Great main event as Flash happily leaps into the main event, AND we got Liotta to make an appearance and further irritate all performers and the crowd. He might be the most natural antagonist we’ve got. We’d have to build on that in the coming months.

OVERALL: C

Slightly disappointing show all round, with the Ring Generals and Marvelous Ones really affecting the overall score. Still, we still had a hot main event, even without Spade and the most tumultuous period in our history appeared to be coming to an end…

Just in time for the next one…

Oh and we forgot to sign Animal Harker to a new contract. So he’s gone. I felt bad about that one.

Next time on Welcome to New York… For once we have a quiet couple of months… and then… All Hell breaks loose…

Welcome to Boston 3: War of the Gangs

Thursday, Week 3, April, 2019

The Skid Row Club, Boston, New England

Attendance: 802

10-MAN BATTLE ROYAL: David Stone won a battle royal in 10:24. The other members of the 'final four' were Brutus Milano, Perren Cloutier and Garry Walker, with Brutus Milano being the final elimination. Garry Walker got the most eliminations over the course of the match. (E+)

Slightly disappointing result considering the modern-day Hercules was involved and won. Still, solid victory for the young kid whose looking more and more like a bonafide star every day. Helps that Larry likes him too. Must be the ties to wrestling history. It felt like he wouldn’t be with us long, but he probably deserved to be included within our history somehow.

SINGLES MATCH: The Mythical One defeated Hellion in 7:54 by pinfall with a Northern Lights Suplex. (D-)

Domination for Mythical One and a burial for Hellion. Never threaten the boss kids, it never ends well.

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE MATCH: Ralph Liotta © defeated Masked Stranger in 10:14 by pinfall with a Super Kick. (E+)

Match three disappoints, but Liotta has finally put another nail in the coffin of Masked Stranger.

NYCW TAG TEAM MATCH: The Marvelous Ones defeated Legacy © in 13:23 when The Architect defeated Robin DaLay by submission with a Blueprint. The Marvelous Ones win the NYCW Tag Team titles. (D-)

The experiment is over. Legacy were good for a stop gap, but it’s time to get the belts onto a team with dynamite chemistry. The Marvelous Ones deserve a run and I gave it to them. Match was a little disappointing.

TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: Hugh de Aske, Steve Flash and The Hangman drew in 13:00 when the referee was forced to rule a no contest when all hell broke loose and Ralph Liotta and The Marvelous Ones ran in and attacked Flash. (D)

Keeping all three men strong, but having them overshadowed by the loud mouth youngsters seemed like a good way to elevate them onto the same level as Flash and Hangman.

ANGLE: Ross Henry and The Ring Generals make an elaborate entrance. (A*)

GANG WARS MATCH: Aldous Blackfriar, Bradley Blaze and William Jetterson drew with Ross Henry and The Ring Generals in 28:27 when the referee lost control and stopped the match. (C+)

Great match (one of the best for the Ring Generals) and one where all men came out looking like ass-kickers who won’t back down. Simply having Ross Henry near any worker immediately elevates them from obscurity to relevance. Take Jetterson for example.

OVERALL: C

From across the country, the internet is on fire after members of the GSW roster caused waves by spending the whole of their latest event GSW A Matter of Respect 2019 taking jabs at rival promotion IPW. It’s backfired as they apparently look desperate and petty. A quick investigation from Francis Peppercorn, Private Detective, tells us GSW are in terrible financial dire straights, which might explain such terrible decision-making.

Old School Wrestling

Thursday, Week 4, April, 2019

McGaw Arena, Brooklyn, New York City, New York

Attendance: 5,000 (SOLD OUT!)

NYCW TAG TEAM TITLES: The Marvelous Ones © defeated Masked Stranger and Rust Dillon in 7:43 when Austin Smooth defeated Masked Stranger by submission with a Smooth Hold. (D)

With his tag team partner gone and on the back of an awful losing streak, things look bleak for Stranger. Another loss here doesn’t help. Our new tag champs look good though.

NYCW TRI-STATE TITLE MATCH: Ralph Liotta defeated Masked Stranger in 1:22 by pinfall with a Super Kick. (D-)

And as a cherry on top, Ralph hits the ring, demands a match. Super Kicks Stranger and pins him again. Just to be a douche. The fact this was their best match to date speaks volumes.

TAG TEAM MATCH: The Ring Generals defeated Hugh de Aske and William Jetterson in 9:49 when Dean Waldorf defeated William Jetterson by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. (D+)

Following on from the main event, The Ring Generals get a solid win over the makeshift heel team. No chemistry notes for the heels, which is a shame. Actually a Hell of a match.

TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: Aldous Blackfriar drew with Bradley Blaze and Steve Flash in 13:00 when the referee was forced to rule a no contest when all hell broke loose. During the match we also had Ralph Liotta run in and attack Flash. (C-)

Great triple threat from three of our most solid performers. Liotta again makes a nuisance of himself and progresses the story. I’m actually wondering at this stage if Liotta vs. Flash can possibly live up to the hype and build-up?

ANGLE: Ross Henry makes an elaborate entrance. (A*)

NYCW EMPIRE TITLE MATCH: Ross Henry © defeated Hellion in 27:50 by pinfall with an Earthquake Powerslam. (B-)

Ross Henry can spin lead into gold it seems. Hellion, who was off his game, gave a great performance in defeat. But was it enough to save his job after his recent behaviour?

OVERALL: C+

No it wasn’t. Goodbye to both Hellion and Masked Stranger. You served a good purpose for a while, but your performances and behaviour were unacceptable. It shouldn’t be too difficult to replace them in fairness.

April drew to a close and we finished 1st in all battles and made $29,672 profit profit. One of our young stars, James Diaz managed to impress and disappoint within 24 hours. After he moved to New York City and then pulled a tasteless rib. We fined him and he brushed it off.

The Sword of Damocles swings ever closer…

Next time on Welcome to New York… The final stop before the biggest signing and biggest news story of the year hit…

Just wanted to stop in to let you know that I am reading and thoroughly enjoying your diary. I can see the inspiration from Welcome to the Coastal Zone clearly, which is a great treat.

I do have to say I am happy to see that you picked up James Diaz, who, in my long-running game is an absolute monster. But I'm shocked you haven't billed him by his bloodline at all and called him "just another guy"... I mean he's Logan Wolfsbaine's cousin for god's sake!
