Are you an MMA Fan?

Random pole here. I'm wondering if there are any people who like playing WMMA even though they don't watch MMA. I personally know nothing about MMA, but I still think I might enjoy WMMA. I might buy it. It's kind of like TEW matched with the sporting aspect of having a winner and a loser instead of picking the winner and loser.

In-depth sports simulators (and Madden) have been how I've learned every sport I've been into in my life. In the case of MMA, I've never gotten into it in real life, too much like wrestling with the drama and bs outside the octagon, so I prefer to keep it to WMMA for that.

I'm pretty obsessed with it. I watch every UFC event and pretty much read every news article I come across. I also box and train jiu jitsu but don't think I'd ever have the balls to do MMA.

I use to be. It's just not the same anymore though. Too many rules and regulations to turn it into a legitimate sport.

Same with me, not because of the rules though. For me it is because of an oversaturation of the product. There is just too much of it nowadays. I remember about ten years ago seeing an MMA show was special (at least to me) because it was not on that often. UFC would run like one show a month and then there were shows from other promotions as well. It was not overkill like it is now.

 

To answer the OP's question, yes I do believe you can enjoy this game without being a fan of the sport. Heck I hate NASCAR and Soccer but I love playing video games based on those sports. I would assume that would be the case for people who do not watch MMA.

I have never watched MMA, but I always found it interesting that the championships meant a lot because the number one gripe I have with current wrestling (scripted wrestling) is that there are too many championships and the championships don't mean enough. What makes watching a sport exciting? What is the main storyline? Trying to win the championship. That is how I would like wrestling booked. But from what I have read I guess MMA has gone the way of boxing and wrestling in that there are now too many championships and they don't mean as much.</p>

<p>I'm very much a 'casual' MMA fan. I'll watch big fights between well known fighters, big UFC title fights, that sort of thing. I've really only taken notice of it for about the last 3-4 years. I've always been more into boxing. </p><p> </p><p>

Any kind of sports management or tycoon type game is usually quite interesting to me. I've played around with a few American football and baseball sims in the past and have very limited knowledge of both as a sport but still found them enjoyable.</p>

<p>Playing WMMA3 was what actually got me into MMA. I still remember looking up every submission that was attempted and being like 'wtf how does that work?'.</p><p>

Decided to check out the next UFC pay-per-view afterwards and the rest is history. Binge watched every MMA show I could get my hands on.</p>

As far as the game goes can't lie as I fell away from MMA I also stopped playing the game for quite awhile. When WMMA 5 got released I slowly got back into the game which I am glad I did as it can be really fun.</p>

<p>I used to love it a few years back... before the Conormania. After that, the ufc lost it's magic for me. Now, i only watch Rizin and, sometimes ONE championship.</p><p> </p><p>

But, about the championships, i disagree Azul. The UFC is pretty much the only tittle belt that really matters. Not surprisingly, most of the fighters end up leaving to try their luck there.</p>

I'm a pretty casual fan, will watch a card now and then if I catch it on TV (which is rare because I tend to prioritize gaming for my limited free time <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />). Love WMMA though, can't remember why I originally tried it but I enjoy the matches and seeing what happens. Sort of the same with TEW, but enjoy WMMA more since you can get some shockers.

But from what I have read I guess MMA has gone the way of boxing and wrestling in that there are now too many championships and they don't mean as much.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Not really, the UFC belt is still the one that matters the most, but the bigger issue is the fact that some champs have decided to not take fights that aren't high profile (ie Tyron Woodley holding out for fights with GSP/either of the Diaz bros.) but those are few in between, most guys are still willing to fight each other. </p><p> </p><p> There is a ton of talent outside of the UFC though, mainly in Russia, that usually makes it there after a bit, unless they're part of another big Org like Bellator and the like. </p><p> </p><p> I really don't care about storylines and the like, I just watch for the fights, which is why I don't relegate my viewing to just the UFC, but you don't need to know anything about MMA to enjoy this game. If you enjoy simulation/management games, you should give it a shot.</p>

The game can be a little tricky to understand without prior knowledge of MMA. Some of the descriptions of ground positions for instance will mean nothing to a non-MMA fan. I recommend watching a few UFC shows for research purposes first (and possibly picking up a new interest in the process!)

As a mere manager/booking sim you can play it perfectly without any knowledge, but for the full immersive experience you'll need to watch it somewhat or play the EA UFC 3 game (or any previous MMA game for that matter). But then again: that game is also quite hard. I probably watch less than 20% of the fights the UFC puts on and rarely another company's fights but still consider myself a fan.</p>
