Broadcasting Overhaul

Recommended Posts

I really think the broadcasting could use an overhaul. Two things bother me:

1) The most popular AI company in my current 13 year game has 17 broadcasting deals of which they mostly use 3. This basically locks up any broadcasters that will only carry 1 promotion.

2) When a deal is extended, the contract length simply gets added to the existing length eventually resulting in deals like 12 shows over 6 years.

I propose a couple of things that could potentially make this part of the game more interesting.

1) Broadcaster contracts should have a third term "x shows per year" or something similar. If you don't show the targeted number of shows in the time frame it would lower your reputation (Media Reputation - see #2) with the broadcaster maybe even leading them to not renew your contract. Meeting or exceeding would raise it. Smaller broadcasters may only require one show per year while larger would require more.

2) Each company should have a Media Reputation (this could potentially be slip in two...a global reputation which could change more slowly and then a specific reputation with each broadcaster). This reputation would affect whether broadcasters will negotiate with a company. This could be modified by the size of the company because lets face it if your an international company (ie the biggest game in town) media will overlook a lot. Potentially this reputation could trend towards a neutral position over time in addition to other modifiers (scandals, meeting/not meeting contract obligations, broadcasting good/poor shows, company credibility, company stability, etc.)

I also think the AI may need to be adjusted. In my current game I now have a child promotion. I gave them a broadcasting deal with my media company which is an advertising broadcaster with maximum coverage in all game areas. Well my child company goes out and get a contract with "Los Deporte Hoy" which is also advertising based and has tiny coverage in Mexico (my child company is in Mexico). I'll need to play a while longer to see if they actually use this new deal over my broadcaster, but it doesn't seem logical that they would.

<p>Would be nice to see this reworked, yes, but right now the game simply isn't geared towards competitive play vs AI. The AI has surely improved to the point where it's very nice to have watcher games, but against any player who has a basic concept of how the game works it will eventually lose. Add to that the fact that not many play MP so why overhaul this at all? Money will never be a concern so if this will be a thing, it will need a financial overhaul as well.</p><p> </p><p>

TEW is much more management-oriented, and people aren't sure whether this game should be too (including me). <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

I agree with the original suggestions, but the most important thing I think is the requirement for a certain number of shows over the period or the deal is broken. Whether this is as much of a "management" game or not, it would make sense to to have at least this small thing added to have some extra competitive/realistic elements.

I know it's not 100% the same but the example is there.</p>

<p>I wouldn’t be surprised if this was some sort of bug because you have event driven companies who tend to never schedule TV shows getting TV deals...That would make since if those companies actual put on a TV show.</p><p> </p><p>

AI also doesn’t seem to be smart enough to use other broadcasters for smaller shows. Like others have said, they just sign with random broadcasters and never use them. Hopefully a patch can fix some of this because it’s a shame that this is allegedly the last version of the game <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>
