ECW - Hardcore Returns! (2018)

History

May 2018

It is May 2018 and legendary promoter Paul Heyman has obtained some rather explicit pictures of WWE owner Mr McMahon. The only way to prevent these being released to the mainstream media is Vince has to hand all the rights of ECW back to Paul Heyman. Thus ECW is reborn!

*DISCLAIMER*- I'm aware its a silly back story, but hey nothing would really make sense for this to happen, so I'm rolling with it!

As the camera panned back the silhouettes of several well known stars could be made out. Tommy Dreamer, Bubba Ray Dudley, Raven and Sabu could be made out, when out of the shadows stepped a familiar figure wearing an original ECW baseball cap. It was Paul Heyman who grinned into the camera and simply announced “WE’RE BACK!!!” </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>[72]</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';">

At the announcing desk Mikey Tenay and Tazz introduced the show from the Stage AE venue in the Tri State area. Out first to a huge pop was the whole f’n show himself Rob Van Dam! In a hard fought open contest eventually RVD came out the winner against Pentagon Jr with a 5 Star Frog Splash. </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>[56]</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';">

ECW owner Paul Heyman came out to announce that the following match up would crown new ECW tag team champion! </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>[56]</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';">

For a title that hadn’t been competed for since December 2000, some 18 years ago the British duo, Moustache Mountain, Tyler Bate and Trent Severn were up against the Briscoe’s. A bout not helped by Trent seemingly off his game saw the Briscoe brothers crowned the new tag team champions! </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><em><strong>[56]</strong></em></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><em>

</em></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';">

Out next was the extremely sexy Miss Adams, who revealed herself to be the new head of booking for the ECW women’s division. Her first act to book a triple threat for the first ECW women’s champion right now. </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>[65]</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>

In a match up which tipped its hate to the pioneering, brilliant female wrestlers from the Far East Ayako Hamada defeated Io Shirai and ex WWE star Emma in a slightly underwhelming match. Not helped by 2 thirds of the competitors being relatively unknown to the audience. </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>[48]</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>

A surprise appearance from Attitude Era tag team the Headbangers teamed with Fenix in what can only be described in a chaotic match against Pete Dunne, Marty Scurll and the homicidal, suicidal, genocidal, death defying Sabu! Although struggling to keep up with the others around him eventually Sabu picked up the win for his team. </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>[42]</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>

Up next out came ECW legends Mikey Whipwreck and Spike Dudley to address the fans in the ring. What started as a feel good moment quickly fell apart due to the long and boring nature of their promo. So there was only one thing to do, CALL 911!!! Mikey Tenay and Tazz informed up this was 911 Mk2, who quickly laid out both legends before power bombing Spike on top of Whipwreck to a big pop from the crowd. Although totally unknown this probably won’t be the last we see of this man! </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>[52]</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>

In a surprise addition to the card the signed that day Jack Swagger put on a great wrestling show, calming the crowd before the up coming main event against British star Zack Sabre Jr. Showing great chemistry together eventually Swagger picked up the win in a closely fought contest. </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>[56]</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>

With the main event about to start Paul Heyman came out to ringside to tell everyone this wasn’t to be missed! </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>[60]</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>

The main event saw three genuine legends go toe to toe to try and crown the new ECW Champion. Bubba Ray, Raven and the ultimate underdog Tommy Dreamer gave everything in a battle for the ages. Near fall followed near fall. With Bubba put through a table Dreamer hit the DDT on Raven and begun crawling over to make the pin to capture the title once again. </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';">

Paul Heyman steps in to the ring and raised his arm aloft. The title in his hands. Heyman took a microphone and said that there is someone else he needs here before making this presentation. Cult of Personality hit the speakers and out stepped none other than CM Punk smiling all his way to the ring. Immediately lifting Dreamer to his feet they embraced with a hug and Punk lifted Tommy’s arm into the air as ticker tape fell from the ceiling. As Punk shook his hand one last time Dreamer reached to the title and Paul Heyman moved it away and spoke into the microphone “Oh you thought this was for you?” Dreamer looked confused for moment before Punk delivered a boot to his midsection then hoisted him up for the GTS!! With Tommy laid out on the canvas Heyman handed Punk the title and he posed over the fallen Dreamer to a chorus of boos as the PPV ended. </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>[78]</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>

Thanks. Short and sweet is what I do best, ask my wife!

Being a Brit I love ZSJ. I got a bit over excited signing Swagger (I'm a huge Jack fan). I do want to do something with Zack Sabre, but not 100% set on anything yet. I need to trim my roster a bit. I've got too many people I want to push and not enough guys I can just happily job out!

Also the Mod is Fleisch May 2018. RVD is set as semi active and so is Sabu. Although Sabu immediately decided to retire, so only got a few more dates from him. His match ratings are terrible though, so wont be a huge loss!

Betrayed

Sunday Week 4 May 2018

Grady Cole Centre (Mid Atlantic)

Attendance - 3,000 (sell out)

The show opens with Tommy Dreamer in the ring who receives a huge Ee Cee Dub chant. Once the crowd finally dies down he addresses Paul Heyman and CM Punk’s actions at the last pay per view. Dreamer delivers a passionate promo pointing out that ECW was never about being an ass kisser and getting things handed to you like Punk did. ECW was about seeing an opportunity and fighting your way to it. What Heyman did didn’t just betray him, but betrayed the fans and the soul of ECW. That’s why tonight he is demanding a title shot against CM Punk! [80]

Tazz and Mike Tenay introduce the smoking hot Miss Adams to the ring, who announces that up next Emma and Deonna Purrazzo will be teaming up against Mayu Iwatani and Ayako Hamada. [67]

In what can only be described as a slightly underwhelming match, the team from the far east Mayu and Ayako came out on top. It seems unlikely Emma and Purrazzo will ever team again as there was a real lack of chemistry between the pair in ring. [45]

A video promo package aires detailing the rich history of the ECW Television Title and showed that a new champion will be crowed tonight. Being billed as a “Battle of Britain” between Zack Sabre Jr, Marty Scurll and Will Ospreay, the title will be suspended high above the ring, who will come out top in this ladder match?! [71]

The Brits done themselves proud in a match which was fought tooth and nail to the end. All three men putting on a great showing. Eventually it was the Villain himself, Marty Scurll who reach the submit and retrieved the belt. No doubt we will be seeing more and more of him defending this title in the coming weeks. Reports following the match in the dirt sheets suggest Zack Sabre wasn’t particularly happy with taking this loss. [56]

Out next was Matt Riddle who went toe to toe with ECW original Bubba Ray Dudley. Clearly in a mean mood Dudley made short work of the King of Bros beating him with a sit down power bomb. Will this be Bubba’s first step towards getting a match with CM Punk? [62]

The cameras race to the back to find Tommy Dreamer being attached by Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate. Handing out a vicious beat down, they eventually put him through a table leaving him beaten on the floor. A smiling Paul Heyman stepped into view and remarked “Huh, some might say you two saw and opportunity and fought your way to it. This won’t be forgotten!” He shook their hands as medical staff pushed past to tend to Dreamer. [77]

ECW Tag Team champions the Briscoes were up next. Taking on the newly formed team of Fenix and Pentagon Jr. This match suffered a little as Fenix seemed a little off his game. Perhaps a reason why his team would end up losing with Jay Briscoe picking up the win and making defence number one of their tag team titles. [58]

CM Punk makes the announcement that if Tommy Dreamer doesn’t make it out to the ring by a ten count then he will forfeit their match and Punk be declared the winner. As he counts down, each number the crowd booes him and Heyman more. Finally he reaches one and turns for the bell to be rung, out steps Tommy Dreamer! Bandaged and limping he has a microphone in his hand. He openly admitted he is in no fit state to wrestle tonight, but he found someone who was willing to take his place.

As Heyman and Punk protested Van Dam comes through the crowd to attach Punk from behind and get the match underway. [85]

It was a match where you wouldn’t have believed RVD was 47 years of age, he rolled back the hands of time putting on an exceptional performance. Beating Punk all over the ring to the delight of the fans. Near fall followed near fall, both men giving their all and failing to put the other away. Until finally RVD hit the 5 Star Frog Splash! He covered the elected champion but Heyman was up on the apron protesting, he was claiming that Rob’s foot was under the rope so the referee shouldn’t count. The official was clearly confused, so Van Dam took matters into his own hands springing to his feet and aiming a spinning kick at Heyman. Paul jumped down at the last moment narrowly avoiding the boot. However RVD wasn’t so lucky, with Punk rolling him up for the three count with a handful of tights. [80]

Amongst all the confusion Punk and Heyman grab the title belt and flee through the crowd to a chorus of boos as Dreamer, Raven and Bubba Ray all come to the ring to stop them. Heyman and Punk disappear out of sight as the PPV goes off air. [78]

Overall rating - 76

You can hire local jobber though or hire some young lions to do the job so you can have a easy job. Push your roster step by step and never apply the Rematch clause. I really want to see new challengers with good title reigns. I am following and this diary should be great.

I’m glad you enjoy it so far. I’m going to trim the roster a bit. I think having a blank canvas I got a bit over excited and just signed EVERYONE I like. But I’m starting to get an idea of who I need to keep and who needs to go.

What I’ve done in the past is just sign guys to very short deals just to job out so will be looking to do that again.

If you’ve got any ideas or suggestions on what you’d like to see happen then feel free to say.

Just asking though would you add pictures too?

Wanna do a dual diary if you want to that is like a ecw brand in the future , just asking though.

Suggestion: You can use fire pro wrestling world caws for any free picture via screenshot.

I'm going to have a little play with the layout and thinking of adding a few pictures just to jazz it up a little.

If you do have any diaries you want to do then feel free to drop me a message when you are starting and if I've got the time I'd be up for it.

The show opened with Mike Tenay and Taz discussing that tonight’s main event would see Bubba Dudley take on Rob Van Dam to decide the number one contender for CM Punk’s world title. However, they were interrupted by owner Paul Heyman who said that CM Punk would not be on the show tonight but did have this message to give via satellite. Punk appeared on screen sat at home with the world title draped over his shoulder. He cut a promo about how it didn’t matter who won the main event as he was growing tired of beating all these has beens. “Bring on your ‘originals’ because that list grows shorter and shorter each week, the only ones left are in rehab or dead! In fact I’m sure my gardener who I pay minimum wage was in ECW for a cup of coffee back in the day, want to see me hit him with a GTS next week as well?” Punk’s feed cut away with him laughing and the crowd booing him. </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>[87]</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';">

Out next to the ring was Fenix who was getting a shot at the World Television Champion Marty Scurll. The Villian was making the first defence of his title and put on a very good showing. Fighting champions the Briscoes once again put their tag team titles on the line against the masked team of Pentagon Jr and El Hijo del Medico Asesino. The more experienced Briscoe pair made yet another impressive performance, quite possible their best to date within ECW. In a short match Mark Briscoe hit a shooting star press on Asesino for a routine victory. </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>[61]</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';">

Following his beatdown on the previous show Tommy Dreamer would get his hands on Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne in a 6 man tag team match. Dreamer was joined by another two Brits in Will Ospreay and Zack Sabre Jr. Dunne and Bate had Sabu joining their team. The match was fairly open with Dreamer desperate to get his hands on either Tyler or Pete. After taking some punishment Sabu finally made it to his corner to tag in one of his partners, yet as he extended his hand both of them jumped down from the apron and walked up the ramp, leaving him behind. Dreamer and Ospreay also both jumped down and gave chase leaving Sabu and Sabre to battle it out. The suicidal, homicidal, genocidal Sabu put up a good fight but did not have enough in the tank to beat the technically gifted Zack Sabre, who picked up the win for his now absent team. </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>[49]</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';">

The main event came around and the fan favourite Rob Van Dam came out first to a loud pop, looking as spritely as ever. Bubba Dudley came out to a slightly more mixed reaction, but once both men were in the ring the duelling chants for them begun. Rolling back the years anyone would have been forgiven for thinking this truly was a main event from an ECW show in its prime. Clearly the pair were motivated at the idea of getting a shot at CM Punk’s title belt. The match swung back and forth until finally it was the whole f’n show RVD hitting the 5 star frog splash to pick up the victory and earning the right to have his second shot at Punk’s championship. </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>[57]</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';">

Bubba gingerly got to his feet after a hell of a match to a huge reaction from the fans. Both men squared up in the ring one final time as chants of “Ee Cee Dub” and “THIS IS AWESOME” filled the arena. After a while finally Dudley put his hand out to shake RVD’s. They embraced and Bubba Dudley raised Van Dam’s arm to a huge ovation as the show went off air. </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><em>[74]</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';">

If that’s what you mean. Also you haven’t sent those documents over you mentioned.</p>

ECW - Revolution

Raven & Marty Scurll v Mad Braddox and Jimmy Dean

ECW original + Brit win over nameless jobbers. Last show's segment feels like you're looking to make a team out of them, mentor-student thing perhaps

Tommy Dreamer v Tyer Bate

Smells like Pete Dunne interference

Ayako Hamada v Emma (ECW Women's World Title)

Hamada needs some title defense and the gold on her to gain popularity. Emma still has WWE fame left to burn

Mark Briscoe v Jack Swagger

Mark can take the loss after so many wins and Swagger needs to bounce back. Curious as to what Jay Briscoe will do, maybe botched interference?

CM Punk v Rob Van Dam (ECW World Title)

Punk wins, but barely
