Sell this (WMMA5) to me as im at 50/50

Recommended Posts

OK so this is really to all you hardy users out there that play WMMA5.

I'm a massive MMA fan and the idea of this game really seems to intrigue, I'm at a 50/50 level of if to get it or not. I've read the developer notes and liked what I saw in there and so I'm now just looking for answers to a couple of questions that will potentially make my mind up:

First off, how many promotions are there in the universe? is it a nice diverse mix?

Secondly I've read review that says results can, as they are in the real world be unpredictable, I like this this sounds awesome, but obviously the review was referring to a surprise KO or Submission. Do you or can you get controversial Points decisions?

Thirdly how close to the "real world" does it feel? Yes I know you can get mods (as I usually do with TEW) but I feel with this game id probably want to just play the default universe.

Fourth, how easy is it to pick up what do to, ie the basics, I'm not saying master as hopefully that does take time but the overall basics to at least get a foot hold in the game.

I know some might say just play the trial and I will (tonight) so in theory i'll have the answer to question one once I load up but views on the other parts and anything else you think will help me make my decision would be greatly appreciated :-)

<p>Yeah, getting the trial is probably the best way to overall understand what you're getting.</p><p> </p><p>

The game is awesome first of all because it's fully and easily customizable. Though the default collection of promotions and fighters is still pretty good and diverse (can't remember now, but there's about a dozen or so default promotions).</p><p> </p><p>

Results can of course be somewhat predicted based on your knowledge of a fighter's skills, but can be very unpredictable and you will definitely see an upset every so often. Plus contorversial decisions can also happen.</p><p> </p><p>

The game feels pretty realistic, even with the fictional characters from the default universe, but you will soon want mods to add variety.</p><p> </p><p>

Finally, the game is pretty easy to pick as soon as you're past the initial confusion from the interface filled with stuff. It's bascally about hiring fighters and pitting them against each other <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Enjoy!</p>

<p>Q1) <em>First off, how many promotions are there in the universe? is it a nice diverse mix?</em></p><p> </p><p>

The Cverse doesn't have a huge volume of promotions, but they cover a decent amount of options. Big promotions in the US and Japan (akin to the UFC and Pride), smaller US promotion focusing on the lighter classes, women's promotion, European promotion, bigger UK promotion.... More will open as well. And the game world tends to flesh out areas where more fighters are needed. This can also be done manually as well. </p><p> </p><p>

Q2) Secondly I've read review that says results can, as they are in the real world be unpredictable, I like this this sounds awesome, but obviously the review was referring to a surprise KO or Submission. Do you or can you get controversial Points decisions?</p><p> </p><p>

Yeah, the refs can get it wrong with stoppages. The judges can get it wrong with decisions. Unpredictable results aren't that common, as they shouldn't be. If you run a mismatch, the significantly better fighter will win almost every time.... but there is always a chance. </p><p> </p><p>

Q3) Thirdly how close to the "real world" does it feel? Yes I know you can get mods (as I usually do with TEW) but I feel with this game id probably want to just play the default universe.</p><p> </p><p>

Depends on what you mean by "feel close". It does to me. You have fighter personalities, feuds, call outs, and post-fight promos. You have different styles of fighters. You'll get fighters who are boring as hell but tend to win because they gameplan and grind. You'll get exciting bangers who lose sometimes because they just go out to entertain. You will see career arcs start to play out. </p><p> </p><p>

Q4) Fourth, how easy is it to pick up what do to, ie the basics, I'm not saying master as hopefully that does take time but the overall basics to at least get a foot hold in the game.</p><p> </p><p>

Quite easy. If you have played TEW, the fundamentals are there. You're booking a show - just making fights instead of matches. You have more freedom on when the shows occur, but otherwise, its quite the same.</p>

<p>I'm not familiar with Adam's work outside of the WMMA series, but I agree that this is - BY FAR - the best WMMA game I've played (having played 3, 4 and 5). It's a great game. Nearly flawless. It's got superb tech support. There's virtually nothing to complain about. Get it or don't. If you choose not to, it's your loss. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

<p>Thank you for these replies, had a little go last night on the trial started as BCW in the UK,</p><p> </p><p>

Run one show with 4 matches got two good ratings and two reat ratings so pleased with that as I've already got an understanding of matching up people for fights.</p><p> </p><p>

Biggest problem I think I'll need to get my head around is how to make money, as I think the so cost me 90k loss or at least some sort of loss in revenue, </p><p> </p><p>

Like what ive seen so far through so think i'll finish the trial period off to still familiarise myself and then make the purchase (although do hate elicense)</p><p> </p><p>

Once again thanks for your thoughts guys much appreciated</p>

BCF has a tv show?? do I run that monthly?weekly? how many shows do people "pre book"and how many months in advance?

There isn't really an easy right answer as other factors come into play. How often you run events will all depend on injuries, which media deals you have and what contracts your fighters have if you want to make a profit.

BCF do have a TV show, but you don't have to use it at all if you don't want to.

For BCF I generally run one event a month and book the next two months in advance before running the first one. So at the start of January i'd book February, March and April. Then once the February event has finished i'd book May, when March has been run i'd book June and so on.

Running one a month can put a dent in your money though so you'll have to keep your eye on it, one every two months is probably the better option if you're getting used to the game.
