ROH EXPANSION: COLT CABANA NEW BOOKER, 'ALL IN' TO BE JOINT PROMOTION

8A8SnC1.png

It's all change in Ring of Honor as Colt Cabana will be taking on a much more active role in the backstage workings of the company after a Sinclair meeting over the weekend focused on their expansion lead to the departure of Delirious as head booker. Sinclair executives felt that Delirious had taken the company as far as he could creatively and had a tendency to rely too heavily on New Japan talent, refusing to focus on home-grown stars and the Women of Honor brand.

Colt Cabana is respected and well-liked universally across the industry, but there have to be questions as to how he'll manage in his first gig as head booker, especially at such a crucial time in ROH's history with some of the biggest shows in their history around the corner, such as the G1 Supercard in April, which will take place at Madison Square Garden.

Speaking of those huge shows, ROH's next one is imminent as it was also announced they'll be promoting the 'All In' event alongside Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks next month. All In, which will take place at the Sears Centre on September 1st, caused a big stir when it became the first non-WWE or WCW show to sell 10,000 tickets in the United States since 1993.

It remains to be seen how NJPW will take the news since they're also in the middle of an effort to expand into the United States, and on top of having a talent sharing arrangement, there are some workers who have long-term contracts with both companies, but Ring of Honor believe that with these changes, they have the chance to become a major player in the American wrestling scene.

<strong>ROH International Cup to kick off on Ring of Honor Wrestling TV</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Coming off the highly successful Honor United tour, Ring of Honor will return to the UK with Honor ReUnited in August, which will be main evented by ROH World Heavyweight Champion Jay Lethal defending his title against the winner of a sixteen-man, United States vs. United Kingdom Tournament. This tournament kicks off this week on Ring of Honor Wrestling TV, with four first round matches scheduled to take place this week.</p><p> </p><p>

With Dalton Castle currently sidelined due to injury and unable to immediately invoke his rematch clause for the ROH World Heavyweight Championship, will Jay Lethal find himself coming up against a familiar foe at the tournament's end at Honor ReUnited or will we see a breakout star earn the ultimate opportunity?</p><p> </p><p>

The tournament also marks an excellent chance for Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian to get their hands on gold, having been told by ROH COO Joe Koff that due to their actions over the past year, they would be let go at the end of 2018 when their contracts expire. Rather than ask for forgiveness, SoCal Uncensored have decided to show the higher ups just how ludicrous the idea of a Ring of Honor without them is - and they're planning to do so by fetching as much gold as possible. Having recently antagonized the Briscoe Brothers after targetting the ROH Tag Team Championships, could their scattered priorities prove costly?</p><p> </p><p>

Rumours are swirling about Alex Shelley's status in professional wrestling and this tournament also sees Chris Sabin attempt to forge ahead as a singles competitor having been a pillar of tag team wrestling alongside Shelley over the past decade. </p><p> </p><p>

The Belt Collector, Austin Aries! The crowd went wild as Aries made his return once again to Ring of Honor, now looking to add the World Championship to his growing collection of titles. Williams was not at all unwilling to spoil his plans, though, going after Aries with brutal European Uppercuts and elbows. Aries showed his resilience by returning them in kind and looking to use his speed to his advantage, avoiding the striking of The Human Torture Device and taking him down with a series of flying strikes of his own. Eventually, though, Williams wore Aries down with some nasty limb locks and Cravates before looking to put him away with Chaos Theory. Aries countered the devastating move by landing on his feet before landing a Discus Elbow, Brainbuster and tapping out Williams with the Last Chancery in quick succession! </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';">

</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:12px;">Hangman Page is set for a long spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious neck injury while tagging with Yujiro Takahashi against Roppongi 3K on NJPW's Destruction Tour. Details on the specifics of the injury haven't been released, but he will definitely require surgery and will be out of action for at least 9 months. Obviously this means he'll need to be replaced in the G1 Climax, and he's already been replaced in ROH's International Cup as Austin Aries took his place to defeat Doug Williams on ROH TV last night.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:12px;">

This is a hugely unfortunate blow for him given that both ROH and NJPW are high on him and he was in line for a big push towards the end of year, at least in ROH. NJPW booker Gedo is known to be a big fan of his but ROH see it as very important that Page thinks of them as his home promotion, so if all goes well with his recovery you should expect to see him return in a big way.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:12px;">

International Cup first round continues; Jeff Cobb makes his debut; ALL IN matches to be announced

Ring of Honor Wrestling TV marks its permanent expansion to 90 minutes starting this week with the continuation of the first round of the International Cup. Taking advantage of the spot vacated by the injured Hangman Page, Austin Aries showed up last week to eliminate Doug Williams, moving one step closer to challenging Jay Lethal at Honor ReUnited in the process. Being a serial winner, The Belt Collector has to now be considered one of the favorites to win this tournament, but who will be the one looking to spoil his chances of being a 3-time ROH World Champion in the next round?

After being eliminated at the hands of Will Ospreay last week, Christopher Daniels - along with Ospreay himself, who was seemingly in the wrong place at the wrong time - found himself the target of an attack at the hands of the Briscoe Brothers. He'll have a chance at exacting some revenge this week when he goes up against Jay Briscoe in singles action, while his partner Frankie Kazarian has Chris Brookes to contend with in the International Cup. Can SoCal Uncensored continue to juggle their priorities with the violent Briscoes gunning for them?

It's a big time for Bullet Club right now with ALL IN right around the corner, as Cody last week picked up a win over the man Marty Scurll will face in the International Cup, Silas Young. Cody and The Young Bucks will be announcing more matches for ALL IN, while Nick Aldis promises to be in attendance and will speak on his NWA title defense against "The American Nightmare".

With his friend and tag team partner Alex Shelley retired, at least temporarily, Chris Sabin is looking to capture singles gold in ROH for the first time and live out both his and Shelley's dream. After saying goodbye, however, Shelley was brutally attacked by ROH Television champion Punishment Martinez while Sabin could do little but watch. Will we find out the reason for Punishment's actions and will Sabin be seeking immediate revenge?
